at every table, iâll save you a seat
and other small gestures genshin men make to show that they love you
this ficâs spiritual successor (âpart twoâ)
wanderer covers the edge of the table whenever you bend down to pick up something. he claims itâs because youâre so unbelievably clumsy that youâre likely to hit your head on the way up. all mortals are so fragile, itâs the least he can do for you to protect âwhatâs left inside that thick skull of yours.â
diluc flips over your pillow if you get up to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water during the night. youâll return to a nice cool pillow and practically fall asleep once your head hits it. if you should ever question how diluc always wakes when you do, he doesnât. heâll turn over the pillow in his sleep, your comfort overiding his subconscious.
kaveh reminds you if you have everything you need before going out. thereâs nothing more he hates more than forgetting something at home and certainly doesnât want you to experience that. if you find you are missing something, heâll run and grab it for you. you donât know whoâs more relieved: you or him.
childe makes you snacks when youâre working. he grew up with siblings, he knows how to help you when youâre feeling stressed or just need an energy boost. his creations can range from ridiculously childish snacks like ants on a log or culinary masterpieces. whatever he feels you need at the time.
zhongli buys you random gifts. they can range from some candies he thinks youâll enjoy to hair pieces crafted with the finest of jewels. most of the heâll give them to you directly, but other times he leaves them out for you to find them: next to the bed, on your desk, in your bag. they tend to increase around the holidays, your birthday, or whenever zhongli simply feels like spoiling you.
xiao always opens the door for you. you canât remember the last time you opened a door when you were with him. he doesnât necessarily insist on doing it either; he just does. itâs become involuntary for xiao at this point. xiao see door, xiao open door for you.
kaeya always saves you a seat, at every table, at every meal. whether itâs he arrived at the tavern earlier than you or heâs sitting on a bench and thinks you may pass him on your way home, the seat right next to him is always yours. he wouldnât have anyone else sitting there but you.
alhaitham reads to you when you canât sleep. you donât even need to ask him, either. ten minutes of you twisting and turning and heâs got the light back on, book open in his hands. sometimes, it will be his own research, which can put you to sleep instantly, but othertimes its chapters from a novel you both adore. this can have the opposite effect, with him reading until the sun rises and you havenât got a wink of sleep.

WHEN- reader uses her boobies as a place holder
You use your boobies to hold something. Ft genshin men.
I was inspired to do this from a memory of my dead grandmother, and I saw my mom do something like that a few days ago..
cuz, ya girl don't got the assets to do that...art credits [mixed snack]
...Xiao...itto...alhaitham...
Drinking a glass of water to quench your thirst. It's nothing out of the ordinary. Mortals are susceptible to dying easily of dehydration your lover claims, so to keep him happy and yourself healthy, you're drinking some water,
And in between sips, you occasionally get tired of holding the glass, so you place it on the best naturally built in stand that you have- your honkers
Xiao
He's...not quite sure on what he's walked in on..
At first, he watches closely, as your chest rises up and down with each breath, so do his eyes. Watching keenly as he focuses in on the water sloshing around in the cup.
Is this...another one of those mortal rituals...?
He takes a big gulp and- leaves before you notice.
He takes to asking ganyu what it means to place a cup on your boobies while he's training her but she just messes up her shot when he asks her.
"is it...a mortal tradition to place something on your chest and fall asleep?"
"h-...huh! Adeptus Xiao???...n-no? Not that I'm aware of..." Looking down ganyu wonders if she can do that too...she can
Itto
"...do you think I could do that too..???" Genuine question. Itto's a real one always asking the real questions.
Startles you causing the drink to fall,
Once you get yourself cleaned up it's on!!
"welcome beetle dudes and dudettes to the first ever boob off champion shippp!!! Who can stack the most cups on their boobies!!! "
He can. He won.
You're almost hurt by this, having been beaten by a man at your own game, but you're far too impressed to think about that now
Brags to anyone who will listen, ayato, ayaka his gang that he won a boob off!! Never lets it go,
If you're in a deep argument nearing a break up he brings up the fact that "you won't ever find a man with my typa boobies, who can beat you at a boob off.." you can't
Alhaitham
"..."
"..."
"..well, that's an efficient way of- placing something, though, it'll probably tip since it's unbalanced."
"are you...saying my boobies are uneven..."
You're gonna take it the wrong way, he can't help but be critical.
"n-no, but there's nothing wrong with having uneven...breasts, many women have them they are completely normal-" "what do you mean many women have them, whose boobies are you looking at besides mine-??"
"N-no!"
He needs to make it up to you for being so rude!
"..." "..." "Can I move now-" "no." You said, picking up the the drink you left on your new place holder taking a sip and putting it back.
Your plan back fires when you realize he still has much more space in the titties left then you do, totally unfair, he needs to make up for that too! By letting you suck on them

wait, his shoulderâ ?! + genshin men
OO. you fell asleep and, to your boyfriendâs surprise, it wasnât on his shoulder!
O1. characters included: alhaitham, kaveh, diluc, kaeya
O2. warnings: jealous genshin men >:), usage of âpartnerâ (kaeya), not proofreadc quick draft i finished today!
âIâm not jealous of you, I have absolutely no reason to be.â
ALHAITHAM is going to be jealous, absolutely. Why did you fall asleep on Kavehâs shoulder instead of his? He really canât bring himself to wake you up (especially considering how cute you look), so he sucks his teeth, letting you be until itâs time to head home.
âOf course I am, I want my sunshine to rest on my shoulder! Not his!â
KAVEH will be fuming with jealousy. He doesnât understand why you picked Alhaitham as a good sleeping shoulder. He was right there! And his shoulder was much, much, more comfortable than his. So, he softly wakes you up, saying itâs time to head home while he gives the Scribe a glaring, look of disapproval.
-> the rest under the cut!
âStay calm, itâs fineâŚâ
DILUC will try his best to stay calm and collected when he sees you resting on Kaeyaâs shoulder. He wouldnât have minded if it was anyone else. Just, whyâd you pick him? He mumbles a few things to himself, before he heads over to the two of you insisting you have somewhere to be in the morning (you do not), which is why Diluc is taking you home now.
âMe? Jealous? I see your jokes have improved as of late.â if you know you know
KAEYA will be jealous, definitely. He just wonât admit it. Heâll suck his teeth, roll his eyes and everything when that possibility is pointed out. Heâs not jealous of Diluc as a person, no, not at all. Heâs jealous at the fact his precious partner is near him! That should be his shoulder you fell asleep on, is what he thinks. Similarly to his brother, heâs definitely going to make up something and say you two must leave urgently. (Itâs a lie, of course and Diluc sees right through it but letâs you go anyways.)

FOLLOWING, REBLOGGING, INTERACTIONS, AND FEEDBACKS ARE APPRECIATED
"My Lord, the scrolls have arrived." One of the scribes of the King arrived, offer him a handful of nicely kept scrolls.
For the past three months, Alhaitham has kept himself confined by the study. The setting filled with scrolls of knowledges, as if he tried to absorb every detail he was trying to comprehend. He only replied with a nod and took the scrolls and placed it by the table.
Alhaitham was the only son in line to the throne and he was no ordinary prince. With his knowledge and skill, the other neighbouring nations spoke of him warmly, although setting aside his stoic and rather cold demeanour upon interacting.
The past three months, a mysterious woman had appeared in his dreams in successions. Seemingly telling an ode to him but he couldn't remember what it was, only her beautiful face could he remember. Drapped in white linen and surrounded by padisarah flowers, she would comfort him in his serene dreams to only wake up with scrolls beside him and a cold cup of tea.
It haunted him, every move he made and every thought he had, it followed and haunted him. At times he could not sleep and tried his best to decipher what was it about. He would find himself drawing pictures of this mysterious woman to only ruin it, frustrated and convinced himself that it didn't look like her nor it was not her. Questioning his ability for artistic work he had learned.
At first, he was rather indifferent. It didn't bother him about this mysterious yet ethereal looking woman to appear in his dreams once in a while but as it went on oftenly, this somehow awakened something in him. His curiousity has took over him, trying to look for answers. He was not a man of spirituality but as the dreams went on, he had to summon a spiritual leader to interpret his dreams which he rather finds ridiculous. He was afterall, programmed with knowledge, rational, and logical thinking and approach.
But it did not help him at all, his curiosity grew and grew for this woman in his dreams. At some point, he would forcefully make himself fall asleep to see her again and promised to ever probe her, but her could not dream of her. Thus, he concluded that she would only appear in his dreams when it's: 1) it's night, and 2) when he doesn't force himself to fall asleep.
He wasn't a believer of such. In fact, as the dreams came in successions, he was concluding that he was either sick in the head or he lacked sleep. Given in his work focused nature, he deduct the idea that we was just lacking sleep but somehow, it made him rather stuck in a same routine where he longed for this mysterious woman in his dreams. Who was this woman? What did she mean? Was she real? What is she even?
Of course you were real, in fact, appearing in his dreams was not coincidence. You were indeed a living being, but not an ordinary one. Hindered from the advancement of Sumeru, lies your monastery filled with padisarahs and gold entombed monuments you refuse to leave for it is a sanctuary you have cultivated. It is true to what they say, the Sumeru has still secrets to be revealed, and you were one of the secrets yet to be come upon.
The dreams the prince set genesis when he stumbled upon an old scroll he found during the expedition a month prior his dreams. It was a shabby ancient scroll he found in a mausoleum to expand their territories in the vast lands of the sands. This way, they could keep a hold of the expanding group of eremites and their illegal trading and activities, as per the orders of the king himself to his only successor to the throne.
At first, he didn't pay much attention to the scroll as according to Alhaitham, it wasn't something he nor scribes comprehend. Although a shaman suggested this could be an ancient text telling a story of a goddess who secluded herself from the world. To his prior knowledge, Alhaitham considered the idea rather off. He digressed the notion of a goddess secluding herself from the world. Why would this goddess even seclude herself?
"Are you certain of this?" he asked the shaman, as if questioning the capabilities of the elder.
"That is for you to find out, your highness." the shaman replied.
Ridiculous. Alhaitham thought. He has never heard the tales of this mysterious divine being, nor was taught to him.
Unbeknownst to him, this would eventually trigger a response from you. You could hear his curiosity from a radius away and found it rather amusing. It didn't bother you that nobody prayed for you nor called out for refuge in your arms but this man has had you delighted. Is this an acknowledgment from a being the gods were referring to?
His growing curiosity was getting louder that you had to appear in his dreams. It was mere simple dreams, you appearing and observing him from a far, to showing him your small abode, to entertaining him by playing an instrument as he watched from a close distant.
And it got to the point that you teased the poor scribe by planting a small kiss on his lips. Upon breaking the kiss, he could only stare at you with feverish desire. His colorful eyes looking answers as you cupped his cheeks and feel his strong jaws clenching, urging himself to stop. He returned the favor by brushing his thumb to your luscious and plump lips, grazing his nose bridge by your supple cheeks and leaving kisses and hushed breaths. His palms making its way to your waist, as if trying to remember every detail he could remember. You let him, of course. Everything was new to you, the feeling of intimacy and the warmth of his touch would surge an unexplainable excitement to you. Something you lacked for years and something you, unexpectedly, found a need.
"Please, tell me who you really are and I would search for you in every nation." he begged, his head resting by your shoulder, seeking for both solace and answers as he left kisses over your exposed collar and neck.
You could only reply with a soft chuckle and cup his cheek and pecked a kiss on his cheek. It's a never ending question left unanswered. It was a cue to stop the dream and awaken him from his slumber. A kiss that would blur his vision and awaken him from his dream.
Even if it was only a dream in his point of view, he was still in your domain. Everything was real and it was beyond scientific explanation to prove that every time he was dreaming, everything was happening was happening in your domain. But could he really comprehend and figure out it was the goddess he denied of existence?
"Your grace, your father has called for you." a scribe entered his study, to find Alhaitham lazily looking by the painted ceiling. Seemingly awoken by the morning breeze of the open space of his chambers. The smell of incense from last night was freshly burnt out and the hues of the sunlight passing through the long curtains.
He tilted his head and responded with a nod. Few moments has passed, the prince presented himself to the king. Surprisingly, the king thought it would have been another day to nag the prince to get out of his chambers but there he was, walking towards the king in his seat.
"Father," he greeted.
"Ah yes, son." he spoke, delighted with the presence. Alongside the king was their pet, a Rishbolan tiger, Jihan, to which Alhaitham smiled as the big feline nudged its head to his legs before positioning itself beside Alhaitham.
"How was your night?"
Alhaitham could only remember your face and your soft chuckle. It took a moment before he could respond in his usual laidback demeanor.
"Nothing special." he replied. "You called?"
The king wasn't new to his straightforwardness and thus explained to him. A mysterious woman was spotted near the Vissudha expansion. The king explained to him that the guards spotted the woman just a few meters away from the construction the king has started two years ago. The woman was reported to be rather composed, explaining as to why she freely roamed the ungoing site. The site itself was dangerous, filled with wild beasts and noxious florals thus the only personnel allowed within the Vissudha expansion were architects and members of the royal committee.
"Oh." Alhaitham nodded to his father's story.
"The guards and the look outs commented on her knowledge with the terrains around Sumeru." the king replied. "So they brought her here."
"She's rather adventurous for exploring the area." Alhaitham circled the study table of his father before he comfortably sat by the sofa.
"Dare I must say, but her extensive knowledge with the sands is quite admirable."
"Oh?"
"Yes, in fact, I had spoken a few words with the young woman." The king chuckled, amused. "She's quite brilliant, suggesting a further expansion by the sands. Especially the mausoleums!"
Alhaitham could only respond with a hum. Seems like the women in Sumeru are rather peculiar for roaming carelessly, he thought.
"If I can guess, she's at your age or probably younger. Must have come from a noble family, and archons, her beauty is otherwordly!"
At his age, Alhaitham isn't new to his father's suggestion of him marrying. He was at the age, it is just that his son didn't pay attention and put the importance of it at this moment. He knows it so well that his father would insist upon meeting this woman and thus readied himself by rejecting his father's notion.
"You should meet her."
"No," he replied. "I have scrolls to keep and manage, father." he stood up, Jihad yawned from his action, causing for the feline to stand up and flex its body before nudging and circled the prince. "JihadâŚ"
The feline responded with succession of chuffs.
"No, no, guards please escort the young lady." the king hurriedly instructed, halting the young prince from walking away. The young prince heaved a sigh, and sat back by the wide sofa once again. This time, Jihad had placed himself by his lap and offed himself to his usual sleep.
The king himself was delighted to see the prince not walking away thus, became slowly impatient to introduce this lady and a few moments has passed, the guards themselves arrived by the king's chambers. Accompanying this said lady to meet the prince.
Each tick of the time, Alhaitham grew impatient with the little meet and greet. He angled his face to towards the curtains, he rubbed his forehead using his middle finger and his index finger whilst his thumb rested on the temple of his forehead. His other hand rested by the felines body to which Jihad appreciated by chuffing.
This was a waste of time, according to Alhaitham. He wasn't aware his father was a matchmaker, so eager to get his only son to be wed. The thought of being married has Alhaitham furrowing his brows.
"Ah, Alhaitham, come meet the young lady." The king softly spoke. Alhaitham could hear his positive remarks to this young lady to which she replied in small and shy chuckles. If he was to judge her, he would find her peculiar and mindless for roaming the area alone. Who on earth would walk alone confidently in an area yet to be finished with construction and still to be tamed?
"Father, I do not have time for this discussion you are initiating--"
"It is an honor, to finally meet the prince." the young lady spoke.
He took a peek from his fingers to have a view of the lady just a few meters away from him. And there she stood, wearing a simple white clothing and a scarf that was loosely wrapped around her hair, a few loose strands of her hair swayed by the wind.
Eyes matching the gaze of the royal prince, a small smile forming in your lips. Upon having a clear view of you, Alhaitham realized what was in front of him. Dumbfounded and speechless, he slowly stood up and awoken the tiger that comfortably laid himself by his lap. Jihad yawned and chuffed, excusing himself by jumping just below the luxurious sofa.
All he could do was to stand there and thought to himself this must be an illusion, or one of his dreams. Silence enveloped the study of the king as he observed you gaze at him with those beautiful yet studious eyes. It's like he couldn't decipher if it was truly you in his dreams or a different person.
There you were, standing in your corporeal form but nothing changed, only the clothing of choice. Ever so radiant, ever so ethereal. The prince couldn't utter any words as he was dumbfounded by the person in front of him. Was his head playing tricks with him? Probably the light? With every inhale an exhale you did, it was proof of life that you were indeed real. After nights of longing for you, you were finally here. In his reality.
Truth be told, this wasn't a scheme you would normally do. Why would a goddess, who voluntarily secluded herself from the world to live in her curated domain, leave her sanctuary? But oh, maybe it was his effect on you? Something finally ignited your curiosity from the outside world. A prince, a brilliant and handsome one.
The king was rather amused with the reaction of his son as he slowly approached you but then halted, as if doubting your existence again.
"Ah, seems like the prince is astonished by your beauty, my dear lady."
The warmth of the king only made you smile as you gazed at Alhaitham. He on the other hand somehow doubted every inch of life in you thus his brows furrowed. The king was indeed right, Alhaitham couldn't deny the beauty in you. You radiated of something out of this world, a beauty that could make a man lose his mind. Lethal, he would call it.
"They were right, your highness." you spoke. "He was indeed a beautiful prince."
Alhaitham stood there, ready to speak.
"Where did you come from?"
That was rather an unexpected question, you thought.
"I was just roaming around the area because I heard there was a constructio--"
"I am asking where are you from." His tone was stern but calm, probing the situation more.
You wouldn't tell him of your sanctuary. It would be ridiculous and of course, it was a secret.
"I came from the desert."
"Which part of the desert exactly?"
"Hadramaveth."
"Ridiculous, that area is out of the reach of the palace nor the council."
"Well I suppose you should widen your expansion within the desert." you replied with a monotone. "After all, the king mentioned you have an ongoing expedition, why not discover it yourself."
He could only stare at your answers, his hawk-like gaze observing you as if he was to judge you of your being. You actually forgot to distinguish whether this was his usual attitude compared to his demeanor during his dreams.
"That area of the desert is out of reach because of its harsh desert." he crossed his arms. "It is an untamed land filled with sandworms and consecrated beasts."
The probing session awakened Jihad whom approached his prince, slowly circling him.
"Well indeed, your grace." you replied. "But there is an area where humans can live, just the passage between Hadramaveth and the Tanit camps."
"To which the eremites occupy." he rebuked. "So, you are an eremite then?"
"No, of course not." the question made you furrow your brows.
"Then answer my question, where are you from?"
The king felt the tension between the two of you. You initially thought that he was going to be delighted to see you in your human form instead of his dreams. But here he is, questioning you. A human, questioning you.
"Now, now, Alhaitham." the king awkwardly chuckled, stepping in. "I think you are scaring the young lady. She offered help to navigate the sands."
"I already sent my men, no need for navigation." Alhaitham looked at his father.
"Your men are headed the wrong direction," you replied. "They're still at the mausoleums."
"And how do you know this? Are you certain they're my men? What mausoleum are you referring to?"
Well, shoot. Of course you couldn't tell him that you can just see everything in a snap. That would ruin your plan. Think. Think. Think.
Now you were certain this was a bad idea, you should've just shut yourself inside that sanctuary of your comfort instead of feeding this man of his wants. What is he up to anyway? You scolded yourself.
"Your highness--"
"That's enough. Guards, please escort this young lady to her quarters." the king sighed.
"No, father. She will be accompanying me in my study." Alhaitham turned his back, walking away and his tiger following along. "She'll have to map the desert out."
You stood there, dumbfounded. This was different man, a different man in his dreams. Where was the man who would look at you with those longing eyes despite being close together? Where was that man who would listen to you play the harp and smile as your grazed your fingers through the strings? Where was the man who would ask for your touch and comfort? Where was he?
You couldn't move from the unexpected reaction from him. Was he not content of seeing you? The silence enveloped and only the heave of the king snapped you back from the heavy thought. Alhaitham stopped as he noticed you were not tagging along.
"Come," he looked back with those stoic eyes.
What an unexpected turn of events.

Genshin men when you bring them home to meet the parents and they find out that your sister is the favored child of the family and she now has her eyes set on them.
Uhhh, I really like that idea.. It has so much angst potential... but am I gonna do it...?
Characters Included: Heizou; Thoma; Alhaitham
Content: gender neutral reader; reader has a sister; slight cursing; some jealousy themes; nothing else besides that
Word count: 2k words
Have fun reading!<3
Heizou
He is so fucking nervous!
He is good at hiding it, but you know him by now, you know how he gets and how he acts when he doesn't want others to know his true feelings, so you know and are aware of it
Heizou knows about your strained relationship with your family. Your parents having favoured your sister over you, no matter the circumstances
you did have contact with your family, but it was on a very low, unregular basis. Not that he minded that, though. It was your life, your decision. He's sure you wouldn't do that without having a good reason for it.
You had agreed on a nice, easy dinner at your parents house where they would get the chance to meet your boyfriend for the first time
upon arriving at the house where you spent your childhood, Heizou got more and more nervous. Somewhere along the way, he grabbed one of your hands, holding it tightly in his own.
you tried reassuring him, giving him a small smile as you held his hand, and it did help him a bit
soon, your mother answered the front door, followed by your father and introductions were made
Heizou held your hand throughout the entire thing, not daring to let go of you, but he seemed to relax more and more as the seconds went by
your parents noticed this as well, looking briefly at your joined hands, but chose not to say anything about it
you sat down on the table and a few minutes later, your sister arrived
she was acting entirely over the top with you, throwing herself at you and acting far too friendly. It made you somewhat uncomfortable, but you didn't say anything, not wanting to ruin the good mood that everyone has
for the first few minutes of dinner, everything seemed fine. Conversations were held, your parents asked Heizou some questions, nothing too bad
but then, your mom made some comment about you again, and it all went downhill from there for you
"You know, you're exactly the type of man we always wanted for our daughter. Are you sure you want to settle with (name)?"
then, your mother proceeded on to tell him every little thing about your sister. How she was working a much better job than you with better hours and more pay. How she was more beautiful than you. How she was just in general the better choice between the two of you
Heizou was dumbfounded by this behaviour and he now understood entirely why you had almost no contact with your family. This has been your entire life? Archons, he wanted to rip them a new one, for your own sake..
your mother was still rambling on, your sister just sitting there, smiling at Heizou, thinking that he was considering his options
everyone, including you, was surprised when he suddenly slammed his hands on the table, making all eyes fall on him
"With all due respect, Ma'am. I would rather die than do something so horrible to (Name). They are a wonderful partner, the best I could ever wish for. So, pardon us, but we are going to take our leave now."
with that, he grabbed your hand and you both walked out of the house, ignoring the calls of your family for you to come back and that they didn't mean it like that
secretly though, you were so glad and relieved. When your mother started saying stuff like that again, you just mentally accepted that this was it, yet again.
But Heizou surprised you and stood up for you against your own family. It made you feel so incredibly loved and cared for
that night, he hugged you closer to him than ever before, now reassuring you that you were his number one, that he loved you only and would do everything in this world, just to see you smile again...
Thoma
He's such a sweet partner, always caring about you and making sure that you're comfortable with him
Thoma likes to be a provider in a relationship. In the sense that he likes to cook for you, help you clean up, doing little things for you around the house. It's his way of saying "I love you"
Thoma will never push you into doing anything you don't want to, or making you open up to him
he's more than happy to take things slowly, earning your trust
and when you finally open up to him about whatever things you want to talk about, he's there for you, listening to everything you have to say without interrupting you
he also knows about the strained relationship with your family. He might not know all the details, but he knows enough to trust you in your decisions regarding the matter
he would never comment on it or make you do anything since it's not his place to judge or intrude on
with that being said, it just so happened that one day, while out shopping for ingredients, he ran into a certain someone
well, more like, a certain someone that ran into him. She profusely apologized for running into him and somehow got him tangled up into conversation
Thoma, being the nice person that he is, tried finding a way out of the conversation without coming across as rude. But, honestly, he just wanted to get home to you as soon as possible
Somehow, the conversation shifted and the topic of partners came up. Thoma said that he was happily taken right now, but she just kept pressing with her questions until your name slipped out his mouth
Thoma could clearly see how her eyes lit up at the mention of your name and he had a feeling that she would just bombard him with thousands more questions
so, he quickly made up an excuse and got out of there, walking home at a fast pace
once he arrived, he told you about the encounter he just had, which made you think. It all sounded strangely familiar to you, even his description of the person rang a bell somewhere in your mind
however, you didn't have much more time to dwell on those thoughts as a knock could be heard from the front door
exchainging glances, you went to answer the door, only to find your sister standing in front of you
eyes wide, you wondered how she found you here, but that question was quickly answered
"Oh, so you ARE his lover! God, now I'm so glad I followed him all the way back here!"
She threw herself in your arms, then quickly abandoned you and went inside your home. You were still so shocked and didn't realize this but when you came back to your senses, you quickly went inside again to the kitchen were you heard her voice from
Thoma was looking at you confused as well, but she just continued talking to him like nothing had happened and they were still out in the city where she ran into him
"...I mean, I'm so glad it was you! You're so handsome, and strong apparently for carrying all those bags back here! Say, why are you with (Name) anyway? Like, they have no redeeming qualities. You should look for more suitable partners, like me! I could give you so much more!"
She smiled at him like her little speech would be all it takes for Thoma to change his mind. The sad part was, you were expecting it to work as well, having dealt with exactly that your entire life, she always got what she wanted
"...Out.", Thoma said. It was the only thing he said, but his tone was so unusal from his normal self. It was cold and demanding, making your sister shiver in her place.
She quickly grabbed her stuff and left your home again, not saying another word
You looked after her for a second, but then in the next you felt two strong arms wrap around you from behind, his face burrying itself in the crock of your neck
for a long time, he remained silent, before he spoke again. "Sorry. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that for so long."
you were perplexed at his words, but quickly hugged him back, silently thanking him for staying by your side
Alhaitham
To most people, Alhaitham comes off as a cold and calculated person without any emotions
most people will be surprised when they find out that he was indeed in a committed relationship
and they were even more surprised when they find out how sweet, loving and expressive you are
most would think that he would want a partner similar to him, closed off and not all that social. But you are the exact opposite to that
Not that Alhaitham was paying any mind to the opinions of others about him and his love life in the first place
To you, Alhaitham was the most ideal partner you could have hoped for
he was caring, attentive towards you, listened to you even if he didn't give that impression
his attention was always on you, you were in his thoughts when not with him. Just completely head over heels for you
However, he would not know about the strained relationship with your parents. He knew you weren't in much contact with them, and that's all he really needed or wanted to know. He never bothered you about it
But then, one day, you asked him if he wanted to meet your parents. You seemed unsure about the proposal, but in the end, he agreed to it nevertheless
the days before the event, you became a nervous mess. Alhaitham had no idea what was going on, but he tried to be there for you and support you
he did ask if you wanted to talk to him about anything, but you declined and he didn't push you anymore after that
then, the evening finally arrived where you were meeting up with your family at a local restaurant
when you arrived, your partents and sister were already there, waiting on the two of you. your mother spotted you first, waving to grab your attention
you then went over to sit with them
Introductions were a bit awkward at first, but after a few minutes, things seemed to settle down a bit as your parents engaged in conversation with you, trying to catch up on things
However, it quickly became clear to Alhaitham that your sister was always trying to upstage you with absolutely anything. You got a good job? Well, she got an even better one. You got paid so and so much? Well, wouldn't you look at that, her numbers were even higher than yours
at first, you tried to ignore it, but as always, your parents quickly began ignoring you again, instead congratulating your sister on how good she was doing for herself. It dampened your mood quite a bit, but you still wanted to give this a chance
that was, until your sister said something very specific. "Yeah. The only thing missing to top it all of would be an amazing boyfriend now. Say, Alhaitham. Why don't you dump my sibling and get with me instead?" She even winked at him after saying this
Immediately, your parents agreed to her proposal, looking expectantly at Alhaitham
said man only took a quick glance at everyone at the table, before throwing some money on the table, grabbing your hand and standing up, heading for the exit
"I listened to you disrespecting my partner for long enough. And you wonder why they hold no contact with you anymore. Really, I'm glad they got out of your grasp."
With that, you both left the restaurant. None of you spoke a word until you got to Alhaitham's house again, where he immediately pulled you into his arms as soon as you were inside
so for a while, you just stood there in his embrace while he silently reassured you that you had nothing to worry about
you were the only one to him and he would spend his entire life proving this to you if necessary..

â loveâs thesis.
pairing: alhaitham x gn!reader
premise: the most logical thing to do when you find out your pretend lover is actually your soulmate? conduct a research and fall in love in the process.
â warnings: inaccurate/unrealistic depictions of college, modern au.
â author's note: i write one long fic for alhaitham and suddenly that old project i have for him back in april is suddenly back. | ~5.9k words.
to say that alhaitham was royally fucked would be an understatement. he was behind three lectures, had a major paper heâs yet to touch, and now, with the sudden appearance of his soulmate mark, he wasnât sure what to tackle first.
alhaitham let out a long exasperated sigh, hand coming to drag down his already tired face as he irritatedly tapped on his table. the white screen of his laptop blinded him as the clock ticked, a constant reminder that he was losing time if he didnât type out at least a sentence to his professorâor to you. a low grumble left his lips when he closed his device and left his room to get another cup of coffee. mind swimming with how he was going to approach you, or if he was even going to say the implications of having your name written on his forearm.
when he reached the living space of his apartment, there you were, in the same position and predicament as him. you looked up from your books and gave him a weary and crooked smile. eyes sunken and hair a mess but all alhaitham could see was how the lamp light on the coffee table illuminated your features. the pounding of his heart was back and all he could offer you was nod before going to the kitchen. this was stupid, he reminded himself. how could the person heâs been fake dating for sheer convenience be his actual soulmate. you, who dreams of fairytales and happily ever after, his soulmate? alhaitham scoffed in disbelief as he waited for the coffee machine to finish his drink.
his mind was torn; alhaithamâs rationality screaming at him to just be honest and tell you now but the more curious side of him wanted to test out this soulmate thing. from the corner of his eye, he sees you stretch your arms over your head and let out a tired sigh. books and papers and devices scattered on his floor as you push your hair out of your face. up until a few hours ago, you were nothing more than a footnote in his life, but now as his eyes took another glimpse over the inking of your name, alhaitham begins to wonder if offering to be your fake boyfriend was also part of fateâs plans.
just then, when the coffee machine finished his drink, an idea popped into his mind. something that would quench his curiosity over the idea of soulmates and finish this thesis heâs yet to even start on. and it would only take 4 steps.
--
STEP 1: THE PROPOSAL
this was abnormal behavior for alhaitham. he has never felt so nervous and antsy in his life until now. alhaitham never felt his palms sweat when the panelists grilled him during his presentations or when he nearly fucked up a speech because he had 2 hours of sleep prior. he concluded that it must be the left over adrenaline from stealing kavehâs concealer to hide your name on his forearm.
he wasnât ashamed to have you as his soulmate, it was quite opposite now that he thinks about it. you were a proud scholar like him. the only difference was you were in vahamuna and him in harvatat. but that didnât deter you from engaging in academic banter and debates with him. alhaitham just felt a bit unsure how to approach the topic of soulmates with you, especially when he was the first one to lay down the boundary that everything is purely for convenience and that no feelings should be involved.
âiâm very confused,â your voice cuts through his inner dilemma as you skim over his proposal paper. âis it really okay for me to assist you in this research? wouldnât faruzan or maybe someone in harvatat be of more help?â
âmy topic delves into relationships. seeing as though you are my lover,â alhaitham pauses and he didnât fail to pick up on the blood rushing to your cheeks when he called you his lover. âyouâre my best option.â
there was an amused glint in your eyes when you shook your head. you slowly packed your things and handed his proposal back to him. âthis is giving me major deja vu.â the grin on your lips and playful tone also took him to memory lane when he first proposed to this fake date situation.
âiâm assuming this is a yes?â he raised a curious brow at you. the two of you falling into each otherâs pace as you left the library.
âitâs a yes.âÂ
STEP 1: COMPLETED.
--
STEP 2: RESEARCH AND ON FIELD EXPERIMENTS.
once his paper was given the green light, he offered to start when you reached his apartment. having nothing to do, until your groupmates replied to you at least, you entered his space and sat yourself on the floor. opening your laptop while alhaitham went to the kitchen to get you something to drink and munch on, you canât help but feel so at home. alhaitham notices this every time so he makes a mental note of your behavior for later use.
hours passed and after many coffee drinks, wingstop takeouts, 10 minute power naps, an unintended pillow fight, and blasting random songs to keep you both awake and sanity intact, you and alhaitham decided on a few experiments to conduct on his research.
STEP 2: COMPLETED.

STEP 2.1: EMOTIONAL SYNCHRONY UNDER EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCES.
âalhaitham, where did you get thatâŚ?â
the gray haired man looked up from his tablet and nodded towards your direction. his eyes glancing over to the heart monitors that were now present in his living room. âthe local hospital.â
âyou really are full of surprises,â you let out an amused chuckle. dropping your stuff beside the coffee table and sitting next to him, he hands you the many wires of the heart monitor. âhow did you even get these to your apartment.â
he got up from his seat and crouched to the level of his tv, not answering your question. sorting through the many movie discs he had rented out for the both of you to watch and test the level of emotional synchrony. âwhat would you like to watch first?â
alhaitham had never whipped his head back faster in his life when he caught you raising your shirt. showing off your midriff as you attach the wires to your chest. he felt his temperature rise as you answered a simple anything to his question. this was ridiculous, his mind echoed, heâs seen you in a bathing suit when you and his friends went to the beach. alhaitham didnât understand why he felt so flustered. shoving a random cd into the cd player and taking the remote, he sat back down on the couch. he just prayed that you donât question the sudden flush on his cheeks.
one horror movie, three romcoms, one tragedy, and one thriller later, you both decided to take a break.
âany progress so far?â you ask with a tilt of your head.Â
he hummed in response. âremarkable to say the least.â
alhaitham hands over the tablet to you while he detaches himself from the heart monitor. he made his way to the kitchen and took out two cups from his cupboard. âthe study we found last time stated that close companions tend to copy the otherâs emotional response under emotional stress.â
âand?â you take the cup he offered gingerly and took a sip. it was coffee, made just how you like it. âhow did we do?â
he took a sip of his own and took the tablet back.
âalmost perfectly in sync. fascinating isnât it?â
he tried his best to not show any signs of whatever he was feeling. as remarkable this was, it was a bit scary. and alhaitham didnât know what to make out of it. he knows that not all soulmates end up together, in fact, a study that was conducted five years ago proved that only a small margin of soulmates live long enough to meet their other half. and an even smaller margin of soulmates actually worked out. it was only the first experiment, the first trial, but alhaitham could feel the arms of inevitability and uncertainty wrap around his ribs and start breaking each bone one by one.Â
just by this one experiment alone, when he offered you a tissue to wipe your tears or when you leaned on him for support because of your laughter, alhaitham felt the inevitable pull towards you.Â
STEP 2.1: COMPLETED.

STEP 2.2: COMMUNICATION AND INTIMACY EXPERIMENT.
it was a busy day at lambadâs cafe. the establishment was housing many students who were all running on little to no sleep and coffee pumping in their veins. project month was proving to be hell on earth for the students. final research defenses and projects were usually held in this time and sometimes the following week would be their finals. itâs a brutal battle against time and insanity, those who donât have proper time management are almost guaranteed to repeat the year if they receive a single mark thatâs below the passing grade.
âgeez, busy as always.â you said, scrolling through your phone.Â
âiâd be more surprised if no one was busy,â he replied. âkaveh is practically living in his lecture hall.â
you let out a laugh as you put down your phone on the table, face down, as you take a bite off of your snack. âokay, my turn to ask a question.â
âshoot.â
this was todayâs experiment. communication and intimacy by using the famous â36 questions to fall in loveâ as your starting point. in every relationship, not just soulmates, communication needs to be present or else itâll fall apart sooner or later. conversation letâs people see parts of another they tend to hide. alhaitham wanted to scratch this experiment from the process, but after the last one, he wanted to try if there were any unpredicted outcomes.
many studies have already been conducted on this, alhaitham shouldnât have a problem finding a supporting article for his thesis. but after just a few questions, he began to think of this experiment as an excuse to get to know you more. heâs not sure if itâs the soulmate thing playing at his mind to get to know you but he suddenly had the urge to absorb every information about you like a sponge. a painful want to know you inside and out; a need to be able to completely explain you to someone else.
âquestion 27: if you were going to become a close friend with your partner, please share what would be important for him or her to know.â
alhaitham mulled over the question before giving his answer.
âmy indifference and wanting to keep most things private does not equate to me not caring about them.â he let his tongue roll over his lips, suddenly feeling parched with the way you were staring at him. âi have high walls, but that doesnât mean theyâre there to ward everyone off. iâm very particular with who i let in, so if they truly want to be my friend, iâd advise them to try until i welcome them in.â
a smile tugged at your lips and alhaitham felt he could finally breathe. âyour turn.â
âquestion 33: if you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? why havenât you told them yet?â
you let out a hum and leaned back in your seat. ânever telling the people i care about that i love them.â
âwhy havenât you told them yet?â he asks, crossing both his arms over the table and slightly leaning forward.Â
âi donât knowâŚâ you say honestly. a foggy look in your eyes as you stare at the ceiling. âmaybe iâm scared it won't sound genuine enough.â
alhaitham wanted to argue that everyone you care about knew that you love them dearly. he was one of those people after all. whatever label you have now was certainly fake, but the vulnerability and care you had for each other wasnât, and he would die on that hill.Â
âwell you shouldnât,â his voice cut through the quiet atmosphere. he hoped that it didnât sound too harsh. âif they cared about you, they would know whether you're being genuine or not.â
if someone told alhaithamâs younger self that the walls heâd built up would crumble in just 36 questions, he wouldnât have believed it. he still finds it hard to believe when you both exit the cafe and go your separate ways. but all he can do is accept it. through those questions, he learned more about youâyour dreams, values, cherished memories, and vulnerabilities you shared with him first.
ahaitham concluded that this experiment was worth keeping. he felt more connected to you than ever.
STEP 2.2: COMPLETED.
--
STEP 2.3: RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM.
admittedly, this wasnât in the original list of experiments you and alhaitham had planned but decided to go along with it. the akademiya regularly held a research symposium and had one or two students present preliminary research to batches of students. this year, he was asked to do it and he dragged you to be his partner because who else would he ask. certainly not kaveh.
âdo your best! iâll be backstage if you need anything.â he simply nods at your support and walks to the stage. before beginning, he takes one last glance at you. he didnât know what urged him to do it, but after seeing you flash him a thumbs up and an encouraging grin, he let a small smile loose before looking towards the batch of students that wonât give a single shit about what heâs saying.
roughly 45 minutes later, alhaitham stepped down the podium and bowed. applause echoed throughout the hall as he made his way backstage to find you. the next batch would be listening to you after all. he stopped in his tracks when he saw you happily chatting with a student he didn't recognize.Â
âyouâre presentation is next, do your best!â he excitedly said. alhaitham narrowed his eyes when the unfamiliar boy rubbed the back of his nape, a flushed tint reaching his cheeks. âmaybe after the dayâs over we can go get some coffee?â
how strange it was. ever since your name appeared on his forearm heâd started feeling so many new emotions that he normally wouldnât imagine feeling. it was an ugly feeling, he concluded. alhaitham didnât like how relieved he felt when you declined the boyâs invitation and when you caught sight of him, he felt his heart beat rapidly in his ears when you skipped over to him. he already knew why he felt a sudden surge of pride take over him when you drag him further back stage to review your presentation, completely ignoring the other boy.Â
it was for research, so why did his arm wrap loosely around your waist like second nature?
STEP 2.3: COMPLETED.
--
STEP 2.4: CREATIVE AND ARTISTIC COLLABORATION.
you were the one who coined this idea after a quick chat with kaveh. for once, the blonde man had an insightful opinion and offered to schedule you and alhaitham to a quick session of painting on your next day offs. now here were the three of you, inside a painting studio with other students in the art department of the akademiya, seated in front of a white canvas and a tray of colors.
from the corner of his eyes, alhaitham took notice of how you and kaveh animatedly chatted. the same ugly feeling he felt that day backstage came back in full throttle. clicking his tongue, he shifted his focus back on the instructorâs voice and followed his instructions. every once in a while, he would take a peek at you and feel something bloom inside his chest when caught a glimpse of that determined look on your face. by the time he looked back at his canvas, he felt the wind inside his lungs be stolen away when he realized he used your colors to paint.Â
different shades and strokes of your favorite colors invaded his senses. his own mind playing tricks on him because he couldâve sworn you were peering over his shoulders, hands wrapped around his waist and your chin comfortably set on one of his shoulders. alhaitham felt the ghosts of your warmth and couldnât help but crave it.
he snapped out of his daydreams when the instructorâs assistant approached him. she was the same age as you and with just one look, alhaitham concluded that she was interested in him. it took all of his will power to not roll his eyes when she complimented his work and not subtly ask for his number. thankfully, she was called back to the instructorâs side. he felt a shiver run down his spine when the girl looked over her shoulders and winked at him. he was most definitely not coming back here ever again.
when the class finished, alhaitham had successfully painted 3 canvases, all with your favorite colors and things that reminded him of you. a successful experiment if he does say so himself.Â
meeting up with kaveh near the exit they both engaged in small chatter. the blonde architect complaining about how heâs burning through his concealer faster than he expected because of the lack of sleep. alhaitham made sure to just hum and nod here and there to not give himself away that he was the reason why kavehâs makeup was running out.Â
âi swear! this school wants its students six feet under before they graduate.â
he tunes out the complaints of his senior and mindlessly scrolls through his phone. tapping his foot impatiently when the assistant from earlier started making her way over to him. scoffing in annoyance he was about to drag kaveh out the door and wait for you outside but an arm tangled with his and started tugging him.
âgood job today!â you grin at alhaitham with both your arms interlaced with the other.Â
taking a peek over his shoulder, alhaitham caught sight of the assistant girl scoffing and rolling her eyes. he shifted his focus back on you, eyes meeting anyone and anything but his. an amused smirk was present on his face when he felt your hand tighten its hold around his bicep.Â
âjealous?â he teases.
you roll your eyes and grip his arm tighter. âmaybe.â
STEP 2.4: COMPLETE.
--
STEP 2.5: COOKING.
the constant ticking of the clock and the tic tac of keyboards was all alhaitham could hear. it was almost midnight and the two of you had decided to pull another all nighter together. at this point, the two of you had been working on his thesis for almost a month now, and alhaitham is still yet to come to a conclusion.
he definitely feels something for you. but there was an uncertain part of him that wonders if his feelings are truly genuine or if the idea of being soulmates was hindering his unbiased thinking. you look up from your laptop when you hear him stop typing and softly ask him if heâs alright. alhaitham wanted to answer no, he was not in the slightest bit alright. but he neednât open his mouth to reply because you already stood up and invited him to the kitchen.
âletâs cook something to eat. weâve been ordering too much takeout lately.â there was a sheepish grin on your lips as you opened his fridge and took out some ingredients. âwhat do you say?â
alhaitham didnât really have a choice when youâre already started preparing. and even if he wanted to, he wouldnât be able to say no. when it came to you, he always found it hard to decline your invitations and advances. so now here he was, helping you cook buttered noodles at 11:57 p.m. with your playlist softly playing in the background.
heâs read a study about how cooking tends to deepen relationships between people. alhaitham wonders if this will also happen with what you and him have now. he didnât really have think too much of it because once he hears you hiss from accidentally touching the pot with boiling water, heâs already by your side. a gentle hand guiding yours under the faucet running with cold water as he lectures you about being careful. you only laugh and say heâs worrying too much. patting him on the arm, a silent message to release your hand, alhaitham lets you continue your duty of cooking the pasta as he grates the cheese and prepares plates.
something about this fragile moment has alhaithamâs mind swimming with possibilities for the future. all he could think about is how nice it would to come home to you after a long day of work (he already does this, he just wonât admit it). crashing into your arms without care as he prattles about his day, his head on your chest while your hand gently strokes over his hair. listening intently to whatever he had to say because you loved listening to his voice.
âhaitham can you help me drain the water?â before you could even turn around to face him, he's already behind you. his larger hands held your smaller ones and helped you guide the pot to the sink. alhaitham doesnât miss the burning of your ears and heâs overcome with the urge to tease.
âwhy so quiet?â he asks with a playful lilt to his voice. âare you that tired?â
he hears you scoff and grumble. that fuzzy feeling swimming inside his chest again as you duck under his arms and sit yourself on his dining table. he raises a brow at you but you only raise the hand that touched the boiling pot.Â
âmy hand is hurting again?â
âare you serious?â
âdeadly serious.â
alhaitham knew you were horsing around but he only chuckled with a shake of his head. in the end, by the time it reached 12:12, the two of you were eating happily. no small talk or conversation was present but neither of you minded. all you cared about was being in his presence and alhaitham would give it to you even if you hadnât asked for it. he looks up from his plate when he hears you chuckle and sees you tiredly swirling the food on your fork.Â
âweâre not getting any sleep tonight arenât we?â there was something dreamy about the way you looked right now. evidently tired, hair a mess and flying in any and every direction, and your eyes were droopy. you looked so at home -at peace- and alhaitham wonders if itâs because you two were spending time together.
âyou ask that as if itâs the first time weâve done this.â you laugh at his reply and look at him. a certain emotion in them that he can only recognize as fondness.
alhaitham concludes from this unscripted experiment that he wouldnât mind cooking with you every night.
STEP 2.5: COMPLETED.
--
STEP 2.6: VULNERABILITY AND TRUST.
today marked the last week and final experiment of alhaithamâs thesis. the both of you decided to leave the âscariestâ experiment for last so you wouldnât feel too uncomfortable. after all, being blindfolded and led to some unknown place wasnât something normal couples would do on a daily basis. yet here you were, trusting him completely with your safety as he holds your hand leading you somewhere.
âyou doing okay there, haitham?â
this was dangerous. alhaitham shouldnât be walking backwards. but he couldnât snuff out his desire of seeing you under the setting sun. he could bump into something and fall, compromising this experiment, but just this once, alhaitham let himself cheat. disobey his own rules. heâs already broken multiple ones so whatâs one more?
âi should be asking you that,â he pauses when he hears you chuckle. âiâm not the one blindfolded here.â
âaww donât worry haitham. i trust you wonât kill me.â
âyou donât know that.â
âdo you even know how to hide a body?â alhaitham was about to reply when you cut him off. ânevermind you probably do.â
alhaitham didnât bother to stifle a laugh at your sudden confession. and you laugh with him. when his back bumps into a metal pole, he takes it as a sign to finally turn around and walk the correct way. it hasnât been a minute yet heâs already missing the sight of your smiling face.
âtell me a secret, haitham.â
âwhy?â
âthis is a vulnerability and trust experiment. tell me something you havenât told anyone.â
he takes a minute to reply. after much contemplation, alhaitham thinks itâs time to tell you.
âiâm scared of my soulmate.â
âwhy are you scared?â your voice turned quiet. it sounded more like an inaudible murmur.
âyou already know iâm not one for relationships,â he hears you hum. âbut recently their name appeared on my forearm. it was unexpected, in fact, i didnât even think it was possible.â
âwhy would you think that?â you sound almost hurt. alhaitham didnât like it.
âsoulmates are too unreliable. youâve certainly seen the multiple studies on them right? most soulmates donât even get the chance to meet their other half.â
âand yet here we are,â he chuckled and intertwined your fingers. âdoing a study on soulmates and testing the potential emotional synergy they might have.â
âi have a strict framework for my life. i built it with facts and logic. soulmates simply donât fit into that framework. the idea of someone having such a profound impact on my life, someone i didnât chooseâ it feels like iâm losing a battle against fate.â
âyou canât fight fate, haitham.â
âand who said i was fighting it?â
alhaitham sighs, running a hand through his hair. âiâm scared that theyâll grow tired of this logical thinking of mine. what if they no longer want to understand me? what if we mix like oil and water?â
âyouâll never know unless you try,â you squeeze his hand in reassurance. âsometimes, you need a little unpredictability in your life. so what if they donât understand you immediately, most soulmates donât even get together when they first meet. relationships take time and effort.â
alhaitham turns to look at you again, studying your expression. thereâs softness in his eyes, he can just tell. âwhat about you? what are you afraid of?â
you stop walking entirely but not once did your hand slip away from his. âiâve been afraid of soulmates too. what if my soulmate isnât a good person? what would happen to my dreams of getting married and that happily ever after?â
alhaitham feels his heart beating inside his ears when you tug off the blindfold. when you meet his eyes with such a lovesick expression, he feels weak in the knees and throat drying up faster than the sands in the desert.
âbut what if your soulmate is better than you imagined?â there was a smirk on his lips when he takes a step forward. âwhat if heâs standing right in front of you as we speak, telling you that heâs willing to give the happily ever after youâve always wanted? all you needed to do was wait a bit longer.â
you let out a laugh and tug him closer. chest to chest, hand still holding each other. âdo you think so?â
âi know so.â
âwill he finally tell me what heâs planning with these experiments?â you lean forward and alhaitham feels his heart lurch forward.Â
he presses your foreheads together. closing his eyes to stop himself from laughing at the sight of you on your toes to reach him. âi canât say. itâs hard to put into words.â
you pout and hit him on the chest. âand why not?â
âiâve never felt such deep affection for someone until you.â
STEP 2.6: COMPLETED.
--
STEP 3: WRITING.
it took a shit ton of self control to stay away from you after his confession. he locked himself in his apartment, leaving you and kaveh to sleepover at tighnariâs since he wouldnât the door for anyone (this is a lie, he always opens the door for you when you bring him food).
now heâs around 75% done with his paper, and itâs taking longer than expected. his idea of locking his phone in the closet on do not disturb was going well.Â
the days continued to drag on and alhaitham scowled at himself for feeling so much yearning for a person heâs going to see tonight or in the following week. he missed the sound of your laughter and comforting presence as you both chased deadlines. but he was determined to finish this thesis tonight or tomorrow afternoon if he accidentally fell asleep.Â
as he expected, there was a knock on his front door. he frowned at how quickly he stood up. with a sigh, he went to the door and leaned on one of the walls with both his hands crossed over his chest.Â
âhaitham, i know youâre in there!â you shout, voice muffled by the door. âyou canât keep hiding there forever! thatâs kavehâs job.â
alhaitham let out a snort as his hand hovered over the doorknob. âiâm working.â
âthen work with me. i bought us takeout,â you said, tone teasing. âand iâm not leaving until you open the door.â
with a sigh he relented. knowing deep down that you were deadly serious and he didnât want to be the cause for a potential cold. when he unlocked the door there you were, your tote bag hanging on your shoulder while your arms held plastic bags of food. the mere sight of you has his mood brightening but he tried his best to keep it neutral.
âitâs late.â he said, trying to sound stern but failing miserably when you wrap a single arm on his waist.
âand yet here i am,â you didnât even wait for him to tell you to come in. youâre already dropping your things on his couch and sitting down on the floor. âyouâre place is a mess.â
he rolls his eyes and sat next to you. âthank you, iâm trying to copy kavehâs workspace.â
a laugh rippled through the space as you handed him his portion. âdonât be mean to him! heâs trying his best.â
you let alhaitham take a few bites before you leaned your head on his shoulder. eyes soft when you smile at him. âi missed you.â
âi missed you too,â he admits, wrapping one arm around your waist and pulling you impossibly closer. âbut i need to finish the paper.â
âoh fuck you!â
you scowl at him and let out an annoyed huff as you take a bite of your own food. you donât get to savor it when a firm hand takes hold of your chin and pulls your face to alhaithamâs. your lips meet briefly before heâs nestling back on his seat. a cheeky grin on his face when you feel your cheeks burning.
âforgive me?â
STEP 3: (KINDA) COMPLETED.

STEP 4: CONCLUSION.
alhaitham let out a sigh of relief as he left the presentation room, loosening his too-tight tie. the sun was high, indicating that it was around afternoon now. the defense took longer than expected due to the panelistsâ questions, and the knowing looks of headmaster nahida and rukkhadevata. he shivered when he recalled how he barely escaped miss nahidaâs clutches.
he speedwalked down the corridors of the akademiya, keeping a firm grip of the extra copy of his thesis. those countless hours spent trying to perfect it was finally over and it proved to be worth all the effort. he had no doubts in his mind that he got a good mark. but now, he had one final thing he needed to do.
a warm breeze greeted him when he stepped outside. he closed his eyes for a moment, letting the warm afternoon sun ease his nerves already knowing where to go next. he needed to find you.
and find you he did. the moment he opened lambadâs cafe doors, his eyes by habit, searched for you in your usual seat by the window. half of your face hidden by your laptop screen and a coffee cup in your hand. the sight brought a smile to his lips, and for a moment, he didnât move and let the scene in front of him be printed into his mind.
taking a deep breath, he walked over to you. âmind if i join you?â
you looked up, not surprised but still happy to see him. âhow did it go?â
âwell,â he said, sitting down across from you. âa lot more intense than i thought, but i did alright.â
âalright seems like an understatement,â you say in amusement, closing your laptop as your eyes flicked over to the papers he held.
alhaitham was struck with the feeling of deja vu. this scene in front of him mirrored the time where he first proposed the idea of partnering up for his thesis. now, here you both were, sitting across from each other with his finished thesis.
you raised a knowing brow at him. âwhatâs this?â
âthe final version of my thesis,â he said, trying to keep his voice steady. âi wanted you to have look.â
âiâm honored.â you say with a big smile.
he nodded and took a deep breath. âthereâs something iâve been meaning to tell you.â
you hum to signal him to continue as you flip through the papers and skim over his hard work.
âduring my presentation, i talked a lot about the impact of relationships. how it affects someoneâs behavior, both consciously and subconsciously. i talked about you.â
you suddenly look up, eyes wide. âwhat did you say?â
âthat emotional synergy doesnât only apply to soulmates. itâs for everyone. even before your name appeared on my forearm, you and i already shared a connection that felt deeper than most soulmates had. from pretend to the profound truth; youâre my soulmate.â
you blinked at him, trying to process everything heâs said. âyou really talked me?â
alhaitham nods, a small smile on his lips when he leans over and flips you to where his experiments come into play. âi did. i talked about our relationship, even when it started as pretend and for convenience, had impacted my life significantly. how i always seem more relaxed and focused when youâre by my side. i couldnât imagine my life without having you in it the more time we spent together.â
he paused, taking another deep breath. âwhen i first saw your name on my forearm, i couldnât believe it. it complicated things severely. but the truth is, youâve always been my soulmate, even before the mark appeared.â
you take his hand in your and intertwine your fingers. and alhaitham couldnât help but feel his heart quicken when he sees his name written on your wrist. âyou scared me for a while, you know?â
he leaned forward, cupping your face in his free hand. âyou donât have to feel scared anymore. itâs real, even without the marks, itâs always been real. i want to spend the rest of my life with you.â
you let out a shaky breath and smile. âi love you.â
âi love you too,â he murmured, thumbs brushing against your tears to wipe away the stray tears that fell. âmore than words can express. i have never known anything else but loving you.â

living with Alhaitham and kaveh.
A/n:sorry for taking so long college work has started to pile up and i got caught up with it.
warnings:threesome,exhibitionism,bj,rough fucking,overall smut
sfw
đąđsuprisingly they are good roommates to live with when they arent fighting like an old married couple atleast.
đąđReminding kaveh that hes late for his classes, upon saying that his expression of pure shock and stress never stops making you laugh,as he hastily grabs his stuff that are scattered aroumd the house
đąđkaveh is on the category of the messy roommate that leaves his architecture project papers all over the house and then doesnt remember where he has put them and thinks that he losts them, while Alhaitham is a cleanfreak and has everything where it should be and in order.
đąđthere isnt a week that hasnt passed by that you and kaveh havent messed in some way with alhaitham. From making his items ââdisappearââ and convicing him that they were never there to begin with and hearing alhaitham say ââit was there a couple of minutes ago,i remember where i put itââ to placing drawing on random pages on his books, you can always hear a small breathy laugh come out every time he sees one.
nsfw
đąđkaveh has made some sex related furneture hidden deep in the house and away from the usual one, that you all have used more than once, alhaitham might midly dislike kaveh but he has to admit that kaveh is for sure creative and dirty minded.
đąđthreesomes?roommates with benefits the answer is yes.
đąđkaveh challenged alhaitham on who is better at fucking you and with that the war began andthe winner was alhaitham without a doubt, since he started to get creative with the position and the places you two did it.
đąđstarting with One time alhaitham fucked you against one of the windows, the lighting at the perfect angle so kaveh could see you both from afar while he was coming back to the house.Upon seeing that kaveh was pissed off that he was left out and adding more gasoline to the fire
đąđand in return kaveh fucked you against the couch minutes before alhaitham was going to come home just so you could get caught by him, kaveh smiled hearing the sound of keys unlocking the door.there have been multiple times you have had a threesome and tonight was one of those days.......
đąđSadwiched between the two men, with kaveh filling your mouth with his cock while alhaitham pounded into you from behind ,mercilesly rolling his hips.Strong arms holding your hips in place to keep you in place.
ââyou look so beautiful with my cock wrapped around your lips dearââkaveh teased a hand placed in you hair brushing them off of your face, reaveling lustful eyes looking up at him.
kaveh jerked his hips hitting the back of your throat over and over again, gagging sounds filling the room as well as groans and moans from the men.
ââi dont think our pet can say a lot right nowââyou hear alhaitham say his thrusts never slowing done but becoming more sloppy, the knot in your stomach starting to grow stronger and stronger with each thrust alhaitham did pushed you closer to the finish line.
feeling kaveh throb in your mouth as well as alhaitham twitching inside you indicating they are close themselves to their orgasm and with one last stroke both men reached their climax including you with alhaitham filling you up to the brim with his seed and with kaveh releasing inside your mouth, you could feel the warm sticky liquid coming down your throat as you swallowed.

Al-Haitham is a loving husband, maybe not romantic, but definitely loving.
Kaveh argues that you could (and should) have both. While you understood his point, you much preferred to be cherished sincerely than to be lavished with "romantic" gestures to entrap you.
Kaveh grumbles that you two really are a match for each other after that.
Al-Haitham is openly loving, though most people don't realize that. He defends your honor when you're not present, and demands you be treated with respect when you are. So much so that he has walked away from "important" or "urgent" matters because the person seeking his aid decided to slight you. It works well for him too: he doesnât want to do more work than necessary. Of course when the matter is critical, rather than walk away he insists the person asking apologize for his transgressions.
Al-Haitham listens to you when you speak. Really listens. Even if his responses are abrasive as he puts his finger directly on the problem without remorse, at least he listened closely enough to identify it. He doesn't leave you to solve your problems alone either. He helps you lay out a plan, and even get started on the solution.
Even if you feel a little sore, you also feel relieved. Talking to Al-Haitham about your problems like popping a pimple really.
And talking to him about your passions? Magical.
He listens attentively most of the time and asks really informed questions. It terrifies you sometimes. However when you inevitably apologize for rambling, and ask if he was annoyed by you, or even try to end the conversation early to respect his time, he calmly reiterates, that you've nothing to apologize for, he would tell you if he was annoyed, and ask where you're going as he's enjoying this discussion with you a lot.
Al-Haitham upholds your boundaries dutifully. He's endured mockery, you know-you heard, for being so firm on ensuring that he does not cross them (with the exception being an immediate threat to your life or honor). When you were first learning how to establish them, and stumbling about, he patiently assisted, calling you out when you were being unreasonable or rather misunderstood how boundaries worked.
Al-Haitham is thoughtful. He will collect information that is useful to you and present it to you.
As someone who is very adept at caring for his wellbeing, he also has no qualms making sure you do the same. He might comment that it would be better to find a way to make meals at home, he will still go and get food from Lambadâs. You will have a meal plan discussion later when youâre less stressed.
Al-Haitham is generous with his spending, but not wasteful. What this means is: if he sees something that will improve your quality of life, he will buy it. He gets a little upset when you hesitate and donât get yourself something that he knows would be useful to you. He has a cushy income for a reason.
Heâs a man raised by his grandmother, he understands the cyclical nature of domestic labor and the toll it can take. He doesnât expect anything and if he does he communicates his expectations. If youâre being crushed under the weight of work, heâll gladly find a workaround: he didnât marry you to serve him, he married you to be a part of his life.
Al-Haitham may not be the most overtly romantic, but he is overtly loving.

Green Slumber
â "Ah, look! Is Alhaitham taking a nap?" "Shh...You're too loud, Paimon." "Th-That's not trueâŚPaimon was definitely whispering-wait, who is that beside him?"
â Alhaitham
Ayato Ver: Pale Blue Slumber Traveller & Paimon lines are taken from the official Genshin Twitter post. [Masterlist]
Congrats Alhaitham, your birthday postpones the fic where I tear you apart for scamming me. I usually don't write birthday fics but pretty art. Can you tell I'm not used to writing second pov and rushed again :)) I don't know how to end fics.
"Ah, look! Is Alhaitham taking a nap?"
Lumine looks in the direction of Paimon's voice, her floating companion peeking through a room with a giddy face. No doubt hatching some sort of plan to get back at the scribe for his words during their quest to rescue Lesser Lord Kusanali. On one hand, she should probably scold Paimon for immediately jumping to payback since the reason both of them are here is to wish the man a happy birthday before departing to the next region. But on the other hand...
âShhâŚYouâre too loud Paimon,â Lumine whispers as she tip-toes towards the door and gently pushes it open further. She's pointedly ignoring the face Paimon is throwing her for acting just as bad as she is. If anyone asks, she'll make an excuse that she was just being a polite guest and if Alhaitham was sleeping, she would excuse herself quietly. In no way is it her curiosity to see the ever-serious Alhaitham in any mode that's defenseless and relaxed. So with Paimonâs head hovering above hers, they both poke their heads into the room. Alhaitham doesnât look any different from the last time they met, although asleep, he looks far less intimidating. Heâs leaned back in the wooden chair, arm propped up to hold his lolling head in place. Calculating amber and teal eyes are closed as his chest falls up and down slowly with each breath while the gentle sun paints him in warm yellows and soothing whites. If Lumine had never met Alhaitham before, she would have thought he may have been the Dendro archon with how serene the scene itself is. Something that almost makes her want to reach out and touch him just to check if heâs real or not.
"Th-That's not trueâŚPaimon was definitely whispering-wait, who is that beside him?" Paimonâs voice tapers off at the end, eyes alight with confusion. Lumine tears her eyes away from Alhaitham to look at where Paimon is pointing. Seated on the desk right in front of Alhaithamâs sleeping figure, a stranger hums softly with their ankles locked as they swing their legs ideally in the air. In their hands appears to be the beige book Alhaitham usually carries around, the one about physics and motion if she remembers correctly. Now that sheâs looking - she can't believe she missed an entire person because she got distracted by the image of a sleeping Alhaitham - the stranger looks far more comfortable in the room than she is. Maybe they're another roommate? Although Alhaitham doesn't seem like the type to have an extensive list of friends and she's positive she's met most if not all of the people Alhaitham could call close enough to have them in his home. She shares a look with Paimon who returns it with a shrug of the shoulders. Neither one of them has ever seen this mysterious person before.
"Haitham, this section here about..." the stranger's voice brings blue and yellow eyes back to the room. Lumine watches intrigued as the stranger finally looks up from the book to see Alhaitham fast asleep. A soft sigh escapes their lips as they close the book, shoulders dropping into something more relaxed, and they just sit and look at the man. They have the same look in their eye but instead, their hand slowly reaches out until their fingertips meet the tips of soft silver hair. Pushing strands away from his face before waltzing down to caress his cheek. It's an intimate touch and Lumine isn't sure whether she should be here interrupting the moment. The stranger surely seems to be having fun as they return to playing with silver strands. Through it all, Alhaitham remains asleep yet, his body seems to lean into the touch naturally. As if these practiced movements have happened before.
Oh. Oh, she understands now.
âHey, PaimonâŚâ Lumine starts as she slowly picks herself off the floor as quietly as possible lest she disturbs the peace. "We should leave."
"Huh? But why? We've never seen this person before right? What if they're one of those bad guys that are after Alhaitham because he's the acting grand sage!" Paimon adamantly nods, small hands clutched into little fists. It would be cute if it weren't for the fact that Paimon has no sense of volume. Before Lumine can reach out and press her palm against Paimon's mouth to stop her from shouting again, a light chuckle rings out. They both freeze in place, flicking their heads back inside the room.
"You know...if you talk any louder you will actually wake him up," the stranger drops their hand as they turn to face the duo. There's mirth dancing in their eyes and Lumine has enough decency to look embarrassed at getting caught red-handed. Paimon on the other hand has no such reservations.
"Ah, sorry! We didn't mean to! Wait-Hey! Don't turn this on Paimon. Who are you and what are you doing in Alhaitham's house?!" Paimon stomps her feet in the air, crossing her arms as she pouts at the stranger. Her frown further increased by the stranger laughing harder.
"I basically live here. There's no need to be so on edge. I doubt Haitham could sleep so easily if a stranger was in his home," they say, gesturing to the still peacefully unaware scribe who hasn't moved a muscle since they arrived.
"Ohh, so you're like that blond guy from before! Ka-Ka something? But wait, why were you touc-"
"Ahem, sorry for barging in. We just wanted to say Happy Birthday to Alhaitham. We'll visit again some other time when he's awake," Lumine cuts Paimon off, successfully managing to slap her hand against Paimon's mouth. She can feel the back of her ears turning red as she bows and practically sprints away and out of the house. She'll just write a note to the scribe instead.
+
You blink a few times before chuckling again. Wow, that girl sure can run fast. You've heard stories about the Traveller and this "Paimon" character, patiently waiting for your turn to stumble into their journey. Although you wish you had met them with better first impressions, they seem like a lively bunch. Your eyes slide over back onto the sleeping figure in front of you, and there's a slight nudge of his lips. The smallest of smiles threaten to burst before it placates into something more neutral. A small detail that hasn't escaped you.
"I know you're awake Alhaitham," you state blankly, your gentle hands reaching back up before suddenly turning harsh and tugging at his cheek. Pulling the skin so he has a lopsided smile. True to your words, teal and amber eyes open without an ounce of shame. "Weren't those your friends? Don't be rude and ignore them when they came all this way to say happy birthday."
He offers a half-hearted shrug before the hand supporting his head moves to take your fingers still tugging at his cheek. Intertwining them together until his face is free. His smile is still small but his eyes shine with fondness that you're forced to look away. Sometimes you forget just how pretty Alhaitham can be.
"Weren't you the one that said I should indulge on my special day? Is it so wrong that I want to spend it with you and you alone?" He adds to his point by brushing his lips against your fingertips before pressing a kiss to your palm. There's a small smile as he extends his other hand out, eyes taking in how pink your ears become. "So let's indulge."
âFor such a pretty face, you sure areâŚâ you trail off but you take his hand and let him move you onto his lap. It's unfair how fast he can turn the tables on you and how easily you let him do so. It was fun being able to poke and prod the man to your heart's content since he had to hold the disguise of being asleep, even if you do feel a bit bad that the Traveller had to postpone their greeting, but now it's his hands that roam over your body. Slipping under your - his - shirt and rubbing small circles into your hip before growing bored and moving onto another patch of untouched skin until there's nothing left to take. Lip hungry as he kisses away your words because every breath that isn't mixed with his is worthless. Perhaps it's a blessing that you need to take a proper breath because you're sure that Alhaitham would keep taking until there's nothing left. Disregarding how tightly your hands cling to him and refuse to let him stray too far away.
"Greedy."
"Pot meet kettle."

On the complexities of relationships and words
Summary: For two people that love to read, words seem like a complex.Â
Word Count: 13k (yeah... this is slow burn, might want to get a drink and snack)
Tags: Alhaitham x Fem!Reader, Slow Burn, Smut(r18+), NSFW, MDNI, Fluff, Angst kind heavy?, Modern AU, Omegaverse AU, A/B/O relationships, slow fic, marriage, arranged pairing, dubcon, themes about not liking yourself, TW:Â gender dysphoria (you donât like your secondary gender), TW: Very vague and brief mentions to possible past domestic trauma, Jealous!alhaitham, slight yandere!alhaitham, mutual pining, miscommunication, breeding, biting, ruts, Alpha!alhaitham, Beta!reader. You agreed to the pairing due to tax benefits. A lot of references to literature.Â
Authors note: This is my first attempt at slow burn and yeah... I got carried away. I want to explore how slow alhaitham would open up and how love can come from the mind instead of the heart. Enjoy.
Side Note: here is a little dabbleÂ
Love, an emotion that sets the heart on fire. An all-consuming emotion that feels as if one was falling off a cliff while also being embraced tight by the treads of fate. The emotion thatâs only separated by a thin line from madness. Or at least, that is how itâs been described to you through books and movies.Â
With love being the inspiration for so many poets, artists, and heroes throughout all of history, it comes as no surprise that you found yourself curious about it. It started out innocently, you would listen to the latest romantic ballads from the wandering travelers along the streets of Sumeru. In the nation of wisdom, books were plentiful yet you found your teenage self buying certain novels from Inazuma. Then came the films from Fontaine which youâd spend a weekâs worth of pocket money on.Â
What first began from your childish curiosity became a hidden infatuation. You wanted to feel those emotions described in those songs, books, and movies. So you began your journey to seek it out. Your first relationship filled you with a certain rush, an excitement to finally experience a scene from those novels you loved⌠but you were only left with disappointment.Â
Kisses felt bland, holding hands felt awkward after too long, and eye contact uncomfortable. There were no lingering thoughts that kept you up at night, no pink haze of pinning, nor a spark that set your chest ablaze. The breakup didnât come as a surprise, and even so, it didnât leave you with those gut-wrenching heartbroken sobs into the pillow as youâve seen in the movies. Just disappointment.Â
Perhaps it's because you were basing your expectations on relationships you can never experience. Those songs, those books, those movies? They were all about the bond felt between Alphas and Omegas.Â
The maddening ruts and needy heat that left your cheeks flushed when you read about them. The touching gestures of scenting, the descriptions of the additive aroma of their beloved, their fated mate. The marking that proclaimed to the world their undying love. Youâll never experience that⌠since youâve presented as a Beta.Â
The worker ants of society, the largest class sandwiched between Alphas and Omegas, the extras in their movies. The category of society that can neither produce nor reciprocate pheromones, the population that lived in mediocrity in the eyes of romantics.Â
Of course, love was possible for Betas, after all in a population that makes up the majority, there will always be the few that find âtrue loveâ. But thatâs an advanced scholarly topic up for debate, with the societal consensus being that itâs the lowest tier of love. All pairings with Betas belonged in this tier.Â
Alpha-Alpha, Omega-Omega, and at the very top of the tier list of âtrue loveâ was the Alpha-Omega pairing. After all, love scientifically is created by chemical bonds in the brain with oxytocin, the love hormone. Pheromones kicked the production of oxytocin into overdrive, creating an addiction that makes a person long for their lovers every hour of the day. The chemicals that create the fire of romance you once wished upon shooting stars for.Â
Thankfully with time, as you matured into an adult you resigned yourself to your fate. You found solstice in your one advantage as a Beta over any Alpha or Omega: True independence. Free from the chains that are primal desires brought on by pheromones, your head was clear, decisions not dependent on the fever that was love.Â
You had given up on searching for love, hey, if you set the bar on the ground then there was less risk of being let down. So thatâs why you agreed to your parentsâ suggestion of an arranged pairing. To be matched to a life partner by a matchmaker.
--
âEh? Isnât that practice kinda outdated?â Dehya questioned.Â
âDonât the city folk use the akasha system, using genetics for compatibility or something?â Your Alpha friend carefully tucked away her compact mirror.Â
âActually, I think thatâs really romantic! The traditional way matches you by personality and lifestyle compatibility.â Nilou grasped your hands, wishing you luck.Â
âI agree, old fashioned doesnât mean it's ineffective. Itâs still very much practiced in Aaru Village.â Candace sent a slight side-eye to your other Alpha friend across the table.Â
--
Perhaps your Alpha and Omega friends were trying to cheer you on, but frankly, they didnât need to. The next day when you met with the older woman, you went through the process with a sense of boredom. When answering the matchmaker's question, you stated you just wanted a life partner that was honest, loyal, and respected your individuality.Â
Next, the matchmaker asked about your interests, you recalled all the literature you used to consume during your obsession with love, and embarrassed by your fruitless past endeavors you answered books. Â
âWhat kind of life do you seek, my dear?â Her wrinkly hands intertwined as she leaned on the table.Â
âA peaceful, quiet life.âÂ
And that was it. She wrote down your responses with a bejeweled quill pen, handwriting beautiful and neat as if she were penning down a poem for you. You were free to go home. Walking down the streets of Sumeru, the dusk birds singing to their lovers, you didnât even wonder about the Beta she was going to pair you with. You had a full day of work tomorrow, what you really wanted was a full night's rest.Â
--
So a month later, you couldnât hide the bewilderment on your face as you stood in front of a tall Alpha, the partner the matchmaker had deemed a good fit. From his piercing teal orange eyes to his sliver hair to his towering physique, everything about him was the picture-perfect definition of an Alpha.Â
âAlhaithamâ was his name, and you must admit it fit him quite well. His face remained unchanged even after his mesmerizing eyes passed over your form quickly. You couldnât read the lack of expression on his face, was it disinterest? Indifference? Boredom?Â
A part of you wanted to take your parents to the side and whisper in their ears that the matchmaker was a quack. Who in their right mind matches an Alpha with a Beta? Before you could do so, the matchmaker lead your parents out of the room, giving the two of you some privacy to get acclimated. A heavy silence hung in the air as your bodies stood a respectable distance apart, deciding to break the silence you first stated the obvious.Â
âIâm not an Omega.âÂ
âIâm aware.â His deep voice sent a small shiver down your spine. Even his voice was beautiful.Â
âI donât have any pheromone, meaning I canât bond.â You glanced up at him.Â
âI never listed it as a requirement.âÂ
His answers only seemed to confuse you further, perhaps he didnât think this through all the way. Sure, the matchmaker revealed that both of you wanted peaceful lives, liked books, and believed firmly in oneâs individuality. But there was a massive sumpter beast in the room as the saying goes.Â
âArenât you worried about⌠that time of the yearâŚâ Â
For the first time, his eyes met yours, you quickly shifted your eyes away.Â
âAre you referring to ruts? Medicine has advanced quite a bit, there are now inhibitors that can regulate pheromones and ruts. Not that you would know, of course.â He huffed out.Â
You couldnât stop your eyebrow from twitching in annoyance. Ah, heâs also got that Alpha ego. You were still confused, from the look on your face he quickly deduced it as well.Â
âI dislike disruptions to my life. Primal desires are just disruptions. To put it bluntly, you as a Beta donât release pheromones nor go into bouts of unsuppressed lust. Significantly reducing the risk of interrupting my time. You value individuality and are very independent, youâre very unlikely to bother me with trivial matters. All these factors add up to a peaceful, quiet life. Simple isnât it?âÂ
When he laid out all the reasons so clearly on the table, itâs hard to not note the truth, Alhaitham is a weird Alpha. Perhaps thatâs why his grandmother enlisted the help of a matchmaker in her will.Â
After that day, you took home a folder full of documentation on him. Under the golden light of your desk lamp, you sorted through the information in front of you. He had no criminal record, he owns his own house close to the city, and he held a stable job with a very attractive salary.Â
You ponder the decision for about a week, weighing the pros and cons. Marriages in Sumeru are often encouraged with sizable tax deductions, more money in your own pocket. Employees with spouses have an easier time requesting paid time off, more money in your pocket and less work. He lacked any familial attachments, meaning no in-laws to deal with. One extra point for being very easy on the eyes too.Â
You ultimately signed your name on the marriage documents at the city hall, right next to his emulate penmanship. Right there under the fluorescent lights of the government office, the two of you recited your vows. The only other people in the room were your parents and the clerk filing the paperwork.
Within the next few months, youâve carried the boxes filled with your belongings from your cramped apartment into his spacious house. Your old light novels and romantic collection of poems are now placed on a bookshelf adjacent to his. Bright and artistic covers contrasting against bland academic journals. Of course, there was no honeymoon, no break from your regular work schedules. There was no reason to.Â
--
In the first year of your marriage, you viewed him with suspicious eyes. You valued loyalty in a life partner and even though he stated he dislike pheromones and primal urges, he was still an Alpha with such natural responses. Yet, you observed that he came home every day at 5:30 pm on the dot, not a single hair out of place nor a single crease on the collar of his button-downs.Â
You found him to be a decent housemate, calm, quiet, and respectful of your space. Chores were divided equally between the two of you, making the shared living space organized and dust free. Of course, he was only human thus he also had some flaws.Â
Sometimes your foot would knock against a stack of books he had left on the floor near the numerous bookshelves throughout the house. Or how you noticed your shampoo and conditioner bottles emptying at an alarming rate, does he not know how expensive haircare is?Â
Alhaitham deemed you a good fit for a life partner. You werenât disruptive nor dependent on him in any aspect. You spent your own money responsibly, a diligent person who followed a set work routine without needing any reminders.Â
You would alternate responsibilities for dinner, but he found your food more flavorful. You threw together ingredients with no regard for measurements, only going off what felt right, compared to his style of calculating the precise amount a âpinchâ was.Â
Of course, itâs expected that youâve got some quirks that made him tsk internally. It was small insignificant things. Like how sometimes he would find strands of your hair left in the shower drain. Or how you often tuck his books back into the nearest shelf, not caring about if the genres matched or not.Â
âI commend your artistry. However, a mural made from your hair on the shower wall is unnecessary.âÂ
âYouâve got shorter hair than me, how are you using double the product?â       Â
âItâs all due to your perception, Iâm not using any more product than you.â
âOh?~ Then I guess the hair on the wall is all just your perception too.â
When living with another person there will always be bumps that needed to be smoothed out. But overall, life was peaceful and quiet just how the two of you liked it.Â
--
Alhaitham was Alhaitham, and you were you. Two independent individuals only connected by paper and law. Perhaps the only couple-like aspect of your relationship was sharing the same bed. Of course, this was done only out of necessity.Â
The only other room in the house with a bed was the guest room, even so, there was still an imbalance. The mattress was much smaller and firm when compared to the grand bed in the master bedroom.Â
He didnât snore and neither did you, you didnât toss and turn in your sleep and neither did he. With two separate blankets, he deemed that sharing a bed with you wouldnât cause any disturbance to his sleep. You two had more than enough money to afford another bed, but just the thought of rearranging the furniture to accommodate it was too bothersome for the both of you. There was more than enough room on the bed for two bodies to sleep without ever touching.Â
No loud passionate fights nor lingering glances and maddening touches. Just the calm lull of normalcy. But you were satisfied.Â
By your second year with him, youâve gotten acquainted with the nuances in his manner of speech. In particular, his sarcastic quips that youâd return with vivacity.Â
âMmm, I appreciate the attempt. But Iâd rather my books be sorted by subject rather than by instinct.âÂ
âThereâs faster ways to collect my life insurance than by getting me to trip over a book, Haitham.âÂ
During this year, the two of you also began to use more familiar terms to address each other. Instead of your name, heâd simply call you wife, and you shortened his name. Husband and âHaithamâ had the same amount of letters anyways.Â
When the date of your courthouse wedding came around, nothing happened.Â
No flowers, no shiny gifts of jewels, not even a sweet dessert. After all, he found it silly to spend so much effort on a singular day instead of placing that enthusiasm into every regular day of life.
Birthdays shared the same sentiment, youâd be invited out by your group of friends to a celebration planned by Nilou, while Alhaitham would stay at home with his books.Â
--
âHappy birthday.â You placed a cup of freshly brewed coffee down in front of him.Â
âThank you.â Besides your statement, there was nothing out of the ordinary.Â
âHopefully Iâm one year closer to collecting your pension.âÂ
Alhaitham has to admit he does enjoy your sardonic humor, but youâd never be able to tell just by looking at him. He took a sip of his coffee, by year two you finally learned how not to scald the coffee grounds when doing a pour-over.
Life continued on, and the two of you were still like parallel lines traveling in the same direction side by side and separately.Â
Itâs now the third year of your marriage. You were currently busy in the kitchen, Alhaitham had just informed you earlier thereâd be guests coming over tonight. Fortunately, itâs a Friday which meant you had a half day at work. Quickly purchasing ingredients from street vendors on your way back.Â
He never had any guests over before, so you assumed that these guests must be important people from work.Â
You even made sure not to use spices that were too fragrant, just in case any of the guests were extremely sensitive to smells, as Alhaitham had informed you they were all Alphas. Tachin was a rather simple but delicious dish to make. You also picked fresh ingredients that would make a very quick and satisfying salad.Â
Your husband didnât particularly like soup, but he doesnât have the right to be picky when youâre the one rushing to cook enough food for five people, so minty bean soup will be on the table. He had a collection of wines in a separate room, youâll leave the wine selection up to him.Â
Just as you finished setting the plates and dishes on the table the chime of the doorbell went off. Wiping off your hands and taking off your apron, doing a quick once-over in the hallway mirror before answering the door.Â
âO-oh⌠Youâre a⌠BetaâŚâÂ
The blond Alpha in front of you had a look of bewilderment across his handsome features. Rudy eyes peering down at you in astonishment as you maintained a polite face.Â
âOof-âÂ
An elbow was jabbed into the blondâs side as a shorter dark-haired man signaled for him to shut up.Â
âThank you for having us over for dinner.â His friendly face gave you a smile.Â
âWelcome.â You invited all the men in.Â
The bewildered blond at the doorâs name was Kaveh, the dark-haired man was Tighnari, and the white-haired man with the intense gaze was Cyno.Â
You familiarized yourself with their names, and from time to time you felt their eyes passing glances over at you as they made small talk. Alhaitham was currently picking out a few bottles of wine.Â
âSo, youâre actually his wife⌠Ah! Of course, itâs no fault of yours. Iâm just shocked heâs actually married, I thought he was bluffing when he said he had a wife. There were no signs⌠Ugh! Great, I owe drinks now.â Kaveh sighed, face in his hands.Â
âAlhaitham doesnât want others knowing too much about him. But the proof is right in front of our eyes.â Cyno leaned his elbows on the table.Â
Ah, it makes sense that people at his work wouldnât know about you. There werenât even rings to distinguish the relationship. Usually, relationships nowadays were sensed through the presence of pheromones on the bodies of lovers. However, you were a Beta with no pheromones to cling onto his person. Thereâs not the slightest chance he ever talked about you. The two of you were also never seen in public together, so in the eyes of many Alhaitham is still a bachelor. There was a slight churn in your stomach, was the soup upsetting it?
âGossiping about me while sitting in my house and right in front of my wife?âÂ
Alhaithamâs deep voice mysteriously made the knot in your stomach go away, or maybe it was the way he referred to you, âmy wifeâ. He placed the bottles of wine and glasses on the table.Â
âItâs nothing major. Weâre just surprised someone is willing enough to stand your arrogance.â Kaveh crossed his arms.Â
âUnwed people should not have any comments on otherâs relationships.âÂ
âHey! Why you-â
âHuhâŚâ You pondered out loud.Â
The attention of the men in the room was all on you now.Â
âOh, pardon my interruption. I guess Iâm just in awe that my husband has friends.âÂ
In an instant laughter ripped through the air.Â
âBwahahaha! Alhaitham, I like your wife already! Ahahaha!â Kaveh was laughing so hard tears were forming in his eyes.Â
Tighnari had one hand gripping the table and the other covering his mouth as he tried desperately to suppress his snickers, ultimately unsuccessfully. Â
âWell, Iâm not sure if friends is the âcorrectâ term.â Cynoâs voice was steady, but you could see the small shakes of his shoulders.Â
âIâm beginning to wonder if inviting guests to the house was the right decision.âÂ
--
Still, the dinner continued and the drinks started to pour. After your statement from earlier, the atmosphere at the table became more lighthearted aided by the help of alcohol.Â
âSo, whatâs the occasion?â You asked as you took a sip out of your glass.Â
âHuh? Alhaitham! How did you not tell your wife about your promotion?â Kaveh nearly spat out his wine.Â
âThereâs no reason to dampen her mood with bad tidings.âÂ
âBad?!-â You wondered if the blondâs voice could shatter the glass in your hands.Â
âKeeping your cards close to your chest, even from your wife.â Cyno side-eyed your husband.Â
âNot at all. Not that the unwed head lawyer would need to know.âÂ
âTsk.â The tan Alpha crossed his arms.Â
âNow, now just because he didnât tell his wife doesnât mean Alhaithamâs a bad husband.â Tighnari tried to dispel the tension while also landing a subtle jab.Â
âMmm, congratulations, Haitham.â You swirled your wine.Â
âThank you.â Your husband replied.Â
The three Alphas looked at each other, eyes sending silent messages. They must find your marriage to the ashen-hair Alpha strange. Alpha-Beta pairings were already against convention, but it seems like the two of you matched each other's pace. Two weird people found each other.Â
--
After dinner was finished and you bid goodbye to the guests at the front door.Â
âBe grateful you stone-faced brat⌠Your wifeâs got... too good to be stuck with your staleâŚâÂ
The two shorter men carrying the blabbering blond off your front steps.Â
âHeâs quite the lightweight.â You briefly mentioned while over the sink.
âIâm just grateful thereâs still wine left. Go rest, Iâll get the dishes.â His larger frame takes up the space at the sink, silently encouraging you to move away.Â
So you left clean-up duty to him, a fair trade for making you cook a feast so out of the blue. As you stood under the warm water pouring over your body in the shower, your mind began to replay the conversations over dinner. They made you realize just how little you actually knew about your own husband despite living under the same roof for three going on four years now.Â
Once he stepped foot outside of your shared space he was practically a stranger. What was his job like? Who were his friends? What were his favorite places? Hell, even in your house, he was still a stranger. What books is he reading now? When does he find time to work out? What does he do when you leave the house? This realization made you shiver, as you turned the knob to increase the temperature of the water.
It wouldnât hurt to try and get to know him a little better.Â
One Sunday morning, you walked into the living room greeted by the sight of him reading one of your old light novels. Seeing his large hand hold the bright book, decorated with a pair of lovers embracing, while his eyes studied the text like his academic papers was almost comical⌠If only you didnât wish to sink through the floor in humiliation. He mustâve lost interest in his own books, or maybe heâd gone through his whole collection.Â
Either way, to prevent such an occurrence from happening again, you began to pick up some books for your husband on your way home.Â
âMetaphysicsâ, âEpistemologyâ, âQuantum Mechanicsâ: those seemed like topics thatâd interest him, you reasoned as you stood in line to purchase them. Your eyes caught sight of a certain book, âle rouge et le noirâ, on a whim you decided to add it to the stack of heavy books. Not for your husband, but rather for yourself.Â
That night you handed the books over to him as he was about to go to his favorite reading spot on the couch.Â
âWhatâs this for?â He stared at the stack of thick books in your hands.Â
âJust passed by a bookstore and figured you might need something new to read.â You gestured for him to take them.Â
âYou didnât have to go out of your way to gift this to me. Thank you, I shall read them.â His low voice indifferent as always, finally taking the weight out of your hands.Â
You proceeded to move over to the smaller sofa in the living room and plopped down. Pulling out the book you had purchased earlier, you glanced up at him eyes questioning why he was staring. Alhaitham cracked open one of the academic journals you gifted him and averted his teal gaze.Â
This was a break from your normal routine, but you felt like itâd be a nice change to get back into reading. It also gives you the opportunity to learn more about Alhaitham by spending more time in his presence. But more importantly, it would allow you to keep an eye on your husband to ensure he doesnât go snooping through your bookshelf again. Maybe you should just donate them, but no library in Sumeru would ever accept them.
Soon that break from routine became the norm. Every night after the kitchen table was cleared, dishes cleaned, and bodies freshly towel dried you and Alhaitham will sit adjacent to each other enjoying quiet reading time. The soft light from the tall floor lamps and soft flicks of turning pages adding to the ambiance of the room.Â
From time to time, you can hear the sound of him writing some sentences down on a notepad. So he likes to take notes on the books he reads. You learned something new.Â
Another new fact you gained from your observations of your husband was that he reads fast, really fast. He had already finished all three books before you were even halfway done with yours. You had to act fast lest his teal eyes begin to wander towards your bookshelf again. So, you found yourself back at the bookstore once more. Picking up any thick academic journals on topics ranging from ancient ruins to the newest peer-reviewed breakthroughs.
Maybe you should also pick up some notepads and sticky notes, you saw how thin the pad had gotten last night. It just so happened that the romance section was right by the shelves of stationeries. The book from Fontaine you had bought on a whim was in your opinion more psychological than romantic. However, the romantic elements present seems to have reignited your interest in the romance genre.Â
Oh well, you were grown enough now to not be so easily swooned by poetic descriptions of love. You picked the first book whose description piqued your interest and added it to the basket.Â
One of the first lessons taught to the children of Sumeru was to be cautious when putting out campfires. If not killed correctly, the unseen smoke can make fallen leaves catch fire. A small flame grows into a hellish blaze that consumes whole acres of forest.Â
--
âThank you very much. Again, this isnât necessary.â Alhaitham still took the books out of your hands.Â
The small notepad on top of the stack caught his attention, his teal eyes looked into yours with a questioning glance.Â
âYour notepadâs running out, and there was a sale.âÂ
âI see.âÂ
From time to time during your quiet reading session, you would glance up, a part of you hoping to see Alhaitham use the new stationery youâve just bought him. A frown tugged at your lips when you saw he had set it to the side in favor of his old, thinning notepad. Maybe the color isnât to his liking.Â
You continue to buy stationeries for him. Any fancy notepads or post-its that caught your eye at a store, every time you give them to him, he would thank you. Then proceed to never use them. Perhaps, the ones you got were too fancy? He seemed to like simple and practical items. Next time you got plainer ones, just simple squares of plain paper, he still left them untouched.Â
Maybe, you needed to find higher-quality ones. But if he didnât like them then why does he keep accepting them? Should you try your luck with pens instead, he does go through quite a few. Ah, the sentiment from the very first time you met him still rang true to this day. Alhaitham is a weird Alpha.Â
He was an enigma to you.Â
You were an enigma to him.Â
Alhaitham wasnât sure when it started, but his mind grew curious about you. Perhaps itâs because he read through his collection of books, or maybe because things at work have been dull lately. Thus, he deduced it was only logical that you started to pique this interest in a bored mind. You lived in the same house and slept in the same bed. With you constantly being in close proximity, of course, he will want to learn more about you after more than three years together.Â
One of the best ways to start studying you would be to start with your bookshelf. Alhaitham vaguely remembers you saying that you were interested in books, yet in all these years in the same space he hasnât ever seen you touch your own shelf. What a pity, he couldâve used the extra space for his own books. Running a finger along the row of books, stopping on a random one he made his decision.Â
--
Your taste in literature is, how should he put it, very different from his own preferences. The descriptions of the actions taken by the Alpha main character and his Omega lover were idiotic, to say the least. The lengthy declarations of the love and affection they held for each other, and the sentences riddled with exaggerations and rhetoric. The romance between the characters was the priority of the novel, thus the plot suffered greatly from it.Â
In his opinion, the book was a mess. Yet, he didnât once feel as if he had wasted his time. Alhaitham discovered a new side to you, is this the type of novel that interests you even as a Beta? The soft taps of your feet suddenly paused as it rounded the corner into the living room. Alhaitham looked up to see a tense look on your face as you stared at the novel currently in his hands.Â
No words were exchanged between the two of you as you continued to stare, looking at the book then back at him. It was only for a minute at most, yet it felt a lot longer before you turned on your heels without so much as a word. It was brief, but Alhaitham thinks he saw the tips of your ears flush. Oh, did he stumble upon a guilty pleasure of yours?Â
His actions must have been the cause of this deviation from routine, Alhaitham concluded while staring at the stack of books presented to him. Even on birthdays and holidays, gifts werenât regularly exchanged between the two of you, so this was certainly a surprise. You were looking at him with eyes urging him to take the heavy books from your hands. He couldnât refuse the offer.Â
What came next was even more of a surprise, you sat on the usually empty sofa and pulled out a book of your own. The cover was different from the ones lining your bookshelf, the colors were much simpler, he also notes that the book comes from Fontaine. You were quiet and focused on your own novel, it didnât cause any disruptions to his sacred reading time so he didnât say anything about it.Â
Soon your curled form on the sofa became a regular sight to see. Every now and then youâd readjust your position, trying to find a comfortable way to hold your book while also relaxing. Alhaitham subconsciously scribbles down brief notes on the book he holds in his other hand. Yet this time when he looked down, he had recorded this small detail about you on the paper. He felt your eyes glancing over as he swiftly crossed out what he had just written.Â
A few days later you gifted him more books along with a new notepad. Now there's an unequal exchange happening. You have now gifted him many items, and he has yet to give you anything in return besides a simple âthanksâ. What should he give you? Alhaitham pondered the question for a bit.Â
He realizes that he doesnât have a firm grasp on your likes and dislikes. Should he try books? No, heâs not familiar enough with your taste in literature to confidently gift a book youâd enjoy. If there was something that you liked, youâd just buy it right then and there with no hesitation with your own money. He thought about it a bit longer.Â
When you came home from a particularly tiring day of work youâd often have a small take-out bag in your hands. The frown on your face would melt away the moment you pulled the padisarah pudding from the bag. Alhaitham opened his eyes, he has found the gift to give you. But from which cafe did you get that dessert?Â
--
âOh?â You looked at the padisarah pudding currently on the kitchen table.Â
âItâs for you.â Alhaitham didnât look up from his book.Â
âThank you. Actually, I have something for you as well.â You began to dig through your bag.Â
Alhaitham glanced up to see you present him a new notepad and a stack of stick notes, the green paper embossed with gold detailing. He hasnât even touched the first notepad you had gifted with a pen, and here you were giving him another. Now the current gift balance is even more off.Â
You took your first spoonful of the pudding, his teal eyes secretly peeking at your expression as you processed the flavor. You furrowed your brow slightly holding the spoon in your mouth, then shrugged your shoulder as you took another bite. Your face didnât light up like when you ate the ones you bought.Â
Tsk, this means Alhaitham bought it from the wrong store. He knows he could simply just ask you which place made your favorite pudding. However, he finds the opportunity for experimentation in front of him more interesting. He wonders what faces youâll give for each variation of the dessert.Â
He gained more knowledge about you, you have a sweet tooth. He already guessed from your fondness for a certain dessert, but those were a treat for once in a while. You liked fruits, often snacking on them when you were bored on your phone, or as a late-night snack when reading.Â
âMmmh.â You looked down at the zaytun peach in your hand.Â
âIs something the matter?â He asked, placing his cup of coffee down.Â
âWhich vendor did you get this peach from?â You looked over at him.Â
âWhy? Is there something wrong with the quality?â
âNo, I like it. Itâs got the right amount of firmness and sweetness.â You took another bite.Â
Alhaitham made sure to only get zaytun peaches from that specific vendor.Â
--
Currently, the head secretary was facing a small dilemma. On his desk he has amassed quite a collection of stationeries. All in part thanks to you, he took some of the notepads and sticky notes to his office, your gifting habits slowed when it looked like he was using them. The ashen-haired man could not pinpoint where this sudden obsession of giving him stationeries came from.Â
Although, he has to admit it is quite amusing to watch the expression on your face as you watched his every time you handed over a new office item. It reminds him of a cat presenting its owner with shiny objects it had found, waiting for its human to react. But the current gift exchange ratio is still off.Â
His teal eyes scanned the report that had been placed on his desk earlier in the morning, there were a lot of important details between the lines on the pages. He should list down the details on a note before passing it on to the CEO. A hand reached towards the pile of post-its on his desk, courtesy of you, before it stopped.Â
âIt would be too much of a waste to use good quality paper for such a tedious task.â He reasons as he used one of the subpar post-its provided by the office.Â
Dropping the report off at the CEOâs desk before he headed out for his lunch break. Walking to his favorite cafe, a familiar flash of color caught his eyes, a florist was selling potted pardisarahs. You did always seem to admire the colorful flowers that decorated the top of the dessert.Â
He stood there on the street contemplating the plant. Padisarahs are fickle flowers, needing a specific blend of soil and precisely measured amounts of water. Too much sun and the fragile petals will burn, too little and the vibrancy of its leaves fade. He concluded that he didnât want to bestow such a hassle on you.Â
Returning from his lunch break to his office, Alhaitham was greeted by a great violation of his personal space. Covering his desk were stacks of new proposals and applications, those werenât out of the ordinary. But the colorful squares plastered all over each new proposal were:
Please approve these proposals secretary Alhaitham! They are very important! ASAP
Here are the calculations of the research funds for next year, take a look at them - T
Alhaitham you better approve my application this time, the project is already delayed and I filed this paperwork twice! If you have any respect for your senior then approve this as soon as possible! - K
Head secretary, these are the new amendments to company policies. The legal team is awaiting your approval before we proceed with the implementation. - C
They used the stationeries that you had gifted him to write nonsense. They had the gall to ask him for favors after they touched his desk without permission and wasted such pretty paper.Â
Every proposals on his desk got thrown in the trash without so much as a glance. Nothing got approved, next time they should carefully consult his listed work hours outside the office.Â
He didnât think heâd have to make a sign that said âdo not touch the items on my deskâ to a workplace of grown adults, but he was very much contemplating it now. Â
Later that night, his annoyance from earlier in the day melted away once he cracked open the new book gifted to him. Your form comfortably wrapped in a light quilt as you cradled yours. The minutes turned into hours, the silence comfortable like the heat from a fireplace. A soft snap echoed through the room, your hand moving towards your face from the corner of his eye.
âIs something the matter?â
âMm? Oh, no. The ending was just sad.â You wiped a tear from your other eye.
He learned something new about himself today, he didnât like seeing you cry.Â
You really shouldâve known better. Like Icarus, youâve flown too close to the sun. The glue binding the wings of maturity and sanity youâve crafted started to melt and fall apart, causing you to plunge down. Falling back into the obsession of âloveâ. What started as just one book, turned into two, turned into four. Now your once sparsely populated shelves were crowded with new romance titles of all sorts.Â
--
âYouâre rather late today.â Alhaithamâs voice made you freeze in place.Â
Why did the living room have to be so close to the front door, maybe you shouldâve snuck back in through the back door. Sneaking back into your own house, did you revert back to a teenager while in your fourth year of marriage?Â
âSorry âbout that, I got caught up with friends.âÂ
That was a blatant lie, your poor friends were dragged into your mess all because you couldnât be honest. You werenât in their company, no, you were in the theaters watching a film alone. But how could you ever admit to him that as the Alpha and Omega lovers danced on the screen, you pictured your faces over theirs?Â
Alhaitham acknowledged your explanation with a small hum, never looking up from his book. Good, because you were certain if he did, he wouldâve seen right through your lie.Â
Was your handsome husband the spark that rekindled your obsession? Or was it the stories youâve been consuming that made your heart thump harder in his presence?Â
You werenât sure which was which, but you couldnât deny the truth youâve buried. You were in love with Alhaitham. It was an undeniable fact. From the beginning, youâve always liked him. His quiet demeanor, his baritone voice, and his teal-orange eyes. But now you were in love with them, every aspect of him. You hated how helpless it made you feel.Â
But you secretly liked how good it felt. After years of dormancy, you finally felt it, the rush described to you in those stories. That canât sleep love, that delicious burn of pining, the itch in your chest as you laid in bed next to him. Two quilts defining the unseen boundaries of personal space, you longed to creep over it but you lacked the courage.Â
What does he smell like? The same shower and laundry products were shared between the two of you. But that is not what you meant. What did his pheromones smell like? Was it a cool fresh scent, cool like the minty streaks hidden through his ashen hair? Or was it deep and woodsy? Maybe he smells like the pages of an old library book.Â
You used to pity your Omega classmates, for you knew the stigma and inconveniences they will face in their lives. However, right now you envied them to the point of nausea. They knew what Alhaithamâs scent was, but you donât. Why did you have to be a Beta?Â
The demon known as insecurity you thought youâve left behind was actually lurking in your shadow the whole time.
Maybe you should check yourself into the Bimarstan, the fever of love feels as if itâs melting your brain. His gaze felt piercing now, his accidental skinships seared your skin. You had no one to blame but yourself, Alhaitham is not at fault, you were the one who fell into the fire as he sat in his place on the couch unaware. Even after four years you still couldnât be honest with your own husband.
Feelings were never discussed because he believed you had a mutual understanding that this was for convenience.Â
You canât tell him you wanted more. How can you tell him you wanted more? Thereâs already a wall four years in the making, too great to overcome.  Â
âI need to rein myself inâ Alhaitham thought as his eyes followed your figure through the crowd below. It was a slow Friday at work so he decided to walk away from his desk, arriving at an overpass that looked over the streets of Sumeru. Something compelled him to look below, and under the golden sun there you were, and by your side was another Alpha.Â
Dehya is her name, a good friend of yours that you introduced once before leaving for a birthday celebration. A good friend who had the privilege to ruffle your hair and loop an arm around your shoulders as she ushers you into one of the many stalls filled with glittering trinkets.Â
His hand tightened its grip on the railing, why did she have privileges he was denied? Alhaitham felt he was stalking his own wife. Idiotic really.Â
Skinship was not commonplace between you, an unseen glass wall defining the boundaries of your personal space. Whenever his skin met yours, youâd flinch and pull away as if you were burned. He always just apologize and the two of you would move on without another word. Hell, even if his eyes lingered on you for too long youâd tense up.Â
Itâs been happening more often now, is it because his eyes started wandering more towards your figure or how his hand itched to hold yours? Â
Were you scarred by a past relationship? Were your flinches the remnants of a darker period in your life before him? His jaw clenched. By pulling a few strings he had pulled up more files of your past, to satisfy his mindâs hungry, but there was nothing. It only made his curiosity hunger more, or was it something else? Alhaitham wanted answers to why you hated his touches and stares, yet wanted to be in his presence and give him gifts.Â
There was only one conclusion he could come up with: you liked your personal space. And he will respect it, but why did your friends not have to?
There was now a knot in his stomach as if a beast was clawing at it, maybe he should call off work and head to the Bimarstan. He disappeared from the overpass.Â
â
âHaitham.â He heard your soft pounds on the door.Â
âLeave some hot water for me.â He could envision the pout on your lips, and thatâs what brought him over the edge.Â
Watching with shameless eyes as the evidence of his guilt washed down the shower drain, running water masking his pants.Â
If he canât touch you, that doesnât mean he canât think about you; words spoken like a true creep he silently chastised. Alhaitham doesnât care to admit how long heâs been doing this, perhaps his primal urges werenât as controlled as he believed.Â
Itâs strange really, youâre a Beta yet you make him have these urges.
You donât produce any pheromones to cling onto his body. But by using the same shower products as you, it serves the same purpose of scenting no? A foolish voice Alhaitham pushed from the back of his mind, taking another pump of your body wash. Maybe he should check the dosage of his inhibitors.Â
â
The only opportunity he got to observe you closely was when you were asleep. âYouâre quite the heavy sleeperâ, he notes as his eyes traced over the subtle curves of your cheeks, the contours of your nose, and the softness of your lips.Â
Itâs accepted wisdom that Omegas were the most beautiful people. The top A-list singers and actors being Omegas only solidified the belief. However, Alhaithamâs confident your existence could challenge that very notion.Â
If it werenât for your distinct lack of a scent, any Alpha couldâve mistaken you for an Omega. Even his guests were taken aback by how your appearance didnât match your status as a Beta.Â
There was a pang in his chest. If he felt those urges when looking at you, then itâs guaranteed that others, specifically other Alphas, have felt it as well. But why? He trusted you to stay true to your convictions of loyalty and integrity⌠He wasnât so sure about others though. Even with the inhibitors coursing through his system, he couldnât seem to push down that annoying hand clawing at his back.Â
You stirred, huddling into your blanket more, snapping his attention back. âOh, you must be cold againâ. The houses in Sumeru were designed to keep hot air out, so when a northern cold front blew in, you definitely felt it.Â
Quietly getting up, Alhaitham pulled the spare quilt out of the closet, gently layering it over your curled form. The knit between your brows disappeared as a pleased expression overtook your face. Were you having a pleasant dream? Was he ever included? Subconsciously his hand began to reach for your face, only to freeze.Â
âPersonal spaceâ he reminds himself as he strolls out of the bedroom.Â
It makes no sense to him, youâre a Beta. In fact, the reason why he married you in the first place was because he believed your lack of pheromones and lack of heats wonât disrupt his peaceful life. The matchmaker had called him her biggest challenge, persevering only because of a promise made to his late grandma.Â
So, how were you still corrupting his thoughts like this?Â
He should read to calm his mind before he attempts to join you back in bed. Thoughts running laps in his head, analyzing then overanalyzing every last explanation he could come up with.Â
Alhaithamâs greedy hands made their way over to your bookshelf, perhaps he could sedate a bit of his curiosity as well. Pulling the Fontainian novel that marked the start of a tradition.Â
Under the golden glow of a lamp he flipped through the pages, it seems that your taste in literature has matured. Teal eyes skimming past a paragraph before going back to do a double take.Â
âLove born in the brain is more spirited, doubtless, than true love, but it has only flashes of enthusiasm; it knows itself too well, it criticizes itself incessantly; so far from banishing thought, it is itself reared only upon a structure of thought.â
He reached an epiphany.Â
It looks like youâve been careless recently. Too distracted by the task of masking your infatuation of your husband from your husband, and maintaining your independent mask to realize that Alhaitham had once again finished all his books.Â
The novel right in front of you, moved from its place on your shelf, was proof of that.Â
âItâs a good bookâ
Your husbandâs neat handwriting was present on the small mint post-it plastered on the front cover. It was a simple gesture yet it made your heart flutter as if you had won the achievement of a lifetime. You finally got Alhaitham to use one of the many stationeries gifted to him.Â
Carefully peeling the paper off the cover, then folding it to tuck it away in your pocket.Â
âAt least itâs not another light novel this time.â You affirmed, sticking the book back into its spot.Â
--
âThe mahamatra have announced a total recall of the inhibitors distributed during the past three months, with reports-â
You were lost in your own little world, contemplating just which books havenât you bought for your husband yet. Tuning out the sounds of the bookstore playlist and TV as your eyes scanned the titles of the thick books in front of you.Â
Would he like Sci-Fi? Sure itâs not academic but maybe itâll have nuggets of information in there thatâd catch his interest.Â
--
The weight of the books made your bag strap dig into your shoulder, seeing the house in the distance, you picked up your pace for the home stretch. Tomorrow marks the start of a four-day public holiday, and after the crunch time your boss put you through to tie up loose ends. You needed it.Â
Turning the keys in the knob you entered your peaceful little safe haven.Â
Only to immediately feel the heaviness in the air.Â
Your husband should be home by now, yet the spot on the couch remained empty. His shoes were placed at the door, albeit messily. Kicking off yours as you placed the bag on the coffee table, you navigated your way through the halls.Â
The atmosphere was quiet, but not the comforting silence youâve experienced for the last five years.Â
âHaitham?â You called out, about to turn the corner into the master bedroom.Â
His black button-down and slacks were thrown all over the floor, a large lump was currently huddled under your blankets on your side of the bed. âOh, he must be nappingâ.Â
Two years in, Alhaitham slept shirtless again like he did before you came. Never before were you grateful that your job made you get up at ungodly 8 am, but having an extra 30 minutes to look at his godly body as he slept made mornings bearable.Â
Still, the air didnât feel right and even if he was messy sometimes, your husband never just threw his clothes on the ground when the laundry basket was right in the corner. His breathing also seemed labored.Â
âHaitham, are you sick?â Reaching a hand into the cocoon of blankets, feeling for his temperature.Â
A sharp inhale was heard as his breathing stilled, his skin was burning. You moved onto a different patch of skin to confirm it. He must have a fever.Â
âYouâre burning! Iâll get medicine and water, donât move.â Your hand quickly retracted.Â
Just as your back was turned towards him, like a monster from beneath the blankets a pair of arms entrapped you.
âH-haitham?â His touch was searing you.Â
âW-woah?!âÂ
In an instant, you were pinned under Alhaithamâs towering form, the soft sheets cushioning your body. The place where he once curled was twisted and balmy. Your eyes shoot up at him as he hovered above, your body stiffened. A scarlet haze offset the brilliant teal hue youâve grown so infatuated with, a sense of impending danger ran down your neck.Â
He doesnât have a fever, heâs in a rut.Â
Your thoughts were running wild, bouncing around in your skull as his labored breathing above continued. In all five years, youâve never seen Alhaitham go into a rut, he was always diligent with his inhibitors. Youâve never been around an Alpha in rut, after all, you were never the one to trigger it.Â
Itâs embarrassing really, you had no idea what to do, all your experience with ruts came from those steamy light novels.Â
âH-haitham, let me up, Iâll get your inhibitors...â You tried to tug your wrists from his grasp.Â
Big mistake. His grip tightened as he buried his face into the side of your neck, a low rumble was felt from his chest. Alhaitham had his nose right up against your neck, taking deep inhales as if he was trying to detect something.Â
You shivered as your body temperature shot up, youâve never been this close to him, the brushes of his ashen locks against your neck made your legs rub together.Â
âHeyâŚâ You moved your neck away, the sensation was almost overwhelming.Â
âStay still.â A baritone voice vibrated against you.Â
On command your body stilled, muscles refusing to move as Alhaitham continued his search. His breath was against your ear, tickling it as he took deep inhales of your hair. A low groan was heard as if he was frustrated with something. Â
âNot enough.âÂ
âHuh?-âÂ
The sound your blouse getting torn off your body resonated through the air. Even will a layer of clothing gone, your body felt hotter. Just as you began to process the loss of your favorite blouse, another rip rang in your ears. Your skirt was now gone as well. You were so vulnerable under his touches.Â
Dragging his nose down from your neck, over your covered breasts, then along your belly. His hands now gripped your thighs as he shifts down to part them effortlessly, eyes focused on your covered cunt.Â
Your mind was groggy, reactions dulled, why was the room so hot? Suddenly you felt his nose against your cunt, taking long whiffs of the slick that was beginning to wet the fabric of your panties. That was enough to spark action from you.Â
âH-hey!â Your hands pushed against his messy locks as your thighs tried to preserve your dignity. Â
âAh!â You couldnât stop the moan that escaped your mouth.Â
In protest of your attempt to shut him out of heaven, Alhaitham bit into the soft flesh of your thigh. Hazy eyes looking straight into yours, warning you to not do it again. His intense gaze made something deep in your cunt pulse.Â
Sharp teeth released soft skin as his attention was back on the honeypot in front of him. Your panties offered as much resistance as wet paper against his swift tug, the fabric now on the floor in pieces.Â
Your cunt twitched with each hot breath that hit against its wet lips. With the thin barrier gone, Alhaitham can now freely bury his nose against your honeypot, tingles ran up his spine as the sweet musk of your slick sent his olfactory system into chaos. His throat felt parched as if he had just trekked the desert, he needed a taste.Â
âAh! Ahhh,â your back arched as his hot tongue lapped against your cunt.Â
Alhaitham was slurping up your slick like a depraved beast, wet muscles sliding up the whole length of your slit, occasionally dipping into the contracting hole. Your whole body shook when the smoothness of his tongue ran across your clit, toes curling in the air.
The shower head couldnât bring out this level of pleasure. The fantasies you envisioned during your long showers couldnât compare to the scene happening right now. His ministration continued, each stroke of his tongue sending blinding waves of pleasure.Â
His hips were angrily rutting against the sheets, erection rubbing against the fabric impatiently. But he had to taste you more, his mind hazy as it craved nothing more than your taste. It was his first taste, but he was already addicted. Your legs tensed up in his grip as a loud whine left your lips, your body shaking as a sudden rush of slick was welcomed onto his awaiting tongue.Â
Your sensitive body tried to flinch away as he continued to lap against your swollen lips and clit but his iron grip on your legs didnât let you budge an inch. Eyes rolled back as the sweet torture continued.Â
Your body convulsed, did you just cum again? Two orgasms sapped you of all strength, everything fell limp as your moans continued to fill the room. Your mind too foggy to even process the feeling of embarrassment. It felt so good, yet it was torturing, your cunt was sobbing for something else.Â
As if taking mercy on your desperation, or maybe his desperation had reached its limit, Alhaitham pulled away. Teary eyes followed his motion, watching as he aligned his length with your greed.
Youâve seen him walk out of the shower in just a towel, how did he hide this behind a puny towel?Â
Your cuntâs eagerness blocked any hesitation from reaching your brain as his length dragged itself against your soaked lips. The pillow behind your head was not enough, you needed something more solid to hold onto, to ground the last shred of your sanity.Â
Shaky hands released the plush pillows, outstretched towards Alhaithamâs immense frame. A growl ripped through his chest as he dove into your arms at the same time as his length thrusted fully inside you. Â
âOH!â Your fingers left deep stretches along his shoulder blades.Â
His pants and soft growls vibrated against your neck as your eyes rolled back again, the fullness youâd been craving has been fulfilled. The stretch burned in all the right ways as your walls clung onto his member, thick and hard. Soft legs locked around a solid torso, your body pressed against his as his frame pinned yours to the bed. Just as you were adjusting to feeling of his length inside, his hips began moving.Â
They were merciless, slapping against your hips and ass as the force made your whole body bounce. His length punishes your walls as it pulled out to just the tip only to be slammed back in at full strength. You clung to his muscular body for dear life, breasts bouncing out of their home in your bra.Â
Nonsense was spilling out of your mouth as your brain malfunctioned from the blinding flashes of pleasure. The slick slaps of your cunt eagerly welcoming his every move and the headboard of the bed knocking against the wall complimented each other.Â
Alhaithamâs pants were growing heavier, growls deeper as his tongue began to trace up and down your neck. The sensation along with his thick tip bullying your poor sweet spot pushed you over the edge for the third time. Walls clamping down to milk him as your legs squeezed him, the pleasure was toeing the edge of pain, much like how your brain was on the verge of madness.Â
Nothing interrupted the pistoning of his hips as he fucked you through your orgasm, heavy balls slapping against your swollen lips.Â
As the high was beginning to wear off, his pace became impossibly fast, the solid wood headboard now banging against the poor wall. Your bodies rocking together on the bed, he buried his face deeper into your neck. His teeth danced along your shoulder as your moans sang in his ears. He wanted to hear more of it.Â
Alhaithamâs hips slammed against yours one final time before they stilled, teeth digging into your shoulder to suppress a moan, burying his length deep inside your cunt as his thick seed spilled.Â
Your greed drank all of it up gratefully as your shoulder stung.Â
Your chest was raising and falling fast, lungs trying to hog all the air that it could hold. Heart pounding hard in your ears. Tears and drool wet your face as your head fell weakly to the side on the soft pillow. You were completely spent as your arms didnât even have the strength to hold onto him. Limbs limp and nerves fried.Â
Above you Alhaitham continued to pant into your shoulder, length still buried inside.Â
After a couple more harsh pants and deep breaths, you felt him stir, pushing against the bed to unpin you from his frame.Â
âAh-hh ahh~â You felt your walls clench once more around his length as he pulled out, a thick string of mixed slick connected his tip to your hole.Â
Your body longed for rest as you turned onto your stomach, face pressed against the pillow, still panting heavily as your eyes closed.Â
Two large hands grasped firmly onto your hips, startling your consciousness back as you looked over your shoulder.Â
Alhaitham still had that scarlet haze in his eyes as he lifted your hips up, watching as more mixed fluids began to tickle out of your abused hole. Your eyes shifted down and you gulped, he was still erect.Â
You were quite foolish to believe that one round was enough to satisfy an Alpha in rut. However, if it werenât for his firm grasp on your hips, your body wouldâve collapsed back into the sheets.Â
A loud whine left your throat, vocalizing your exhaustion to him. Itâs been a long time since you got any action, the two of you didnât even consummate on the wedding night, it was spent packing your stuff.Â
You tried to shift your hips out of his grip but he only held on tighter, earning another whine.Â
Soft kisses were pressed against your back as if he was trying to soothe you. It was pathetic how weak you were to them, instantly melting against the pillow. Maybe you can last one more round you thought as his length rubbed against your slit again.Â
Thanks to the extra prep and lubrication from the last round your walls were much more accustomed to the stretch as Alhaitham entered once more. His beginning thrusts were much more slowed and controlled than before as you moaned softly into the pillow.Â
This couldnât last sadly, as his lust overtook him again and his hips once again slammed into you, forcing a choked moan from you. Using his hands, he held your body up as he pulled all the way out until the tip then cruelly forced it all back into you.Â
You wanted to beg him to rest, but you also wanted to beg for more. Your sloppy cunt accepted all his punishing movements with gratitude as the wet walls thanked his length with kiss-like contractions.Â
Your eyes were rolled to the back of your head, mind absolutely blank, the pleasure mustâve melted your brain. All you could do was grip the tear-soaked pillow and let out moan after moan, the poor wall still getting beaten by the movement of the headboard. Tension building up once more in you.Â
Somewhere along the lines, you felt his teeth graze against your nape as his thrust picked up the pace once more, a sign that he was close to finishing. He was panting against the back of your neck as if he was searching for something. With a particularly harsh snap of his hips, he bites deeply into your nape as he releases a fresh batch of seed.Â
âWhy?â
You felt the frustrated growls against your skin as he bites again at a different angle. The pleasureful pain seems to have jump started your brain for just a second.Â
âOh, heâs trying to bond.â You felt Alhaithamâs soft locks brush against your shoulders as he continued his fruitless search.Â
You were once reminded that you were just a Beta, unable to form a bond. He could bite your neck as many times as he wanted. His teeth can pierce the flesh until the skin was raw, but it would be all for naught. Heâll never get that satisfaction. You donât have the glands to be bitten, to be marked, to be bonded with.Â
You werenât an Omega. There was now a heavy knot in your chest.Â
â
You werenât even sure what day it was, all you can recall is the hazy cycle of intense lust followed by a lull before the next round. During the lull, you did your damnedest to keep yourself and him hydrated, often having to lure him into the kitchen for some much-needed water and quick snacks.Â
The air of the house was thick with the musk of sweat and desire, very nerve of yours fried from pleasure.Â
Once again your body was pinned under his, legs thrown over his shoulders as his hips desperately snapped against yours.Â
Every article of clothing has long since been removed, allowing your breasts to bounce along with every thrust. By now you were certain the shape of him was pounded into your cunt. The soaked sheets below clutched in your hands as if to ground you from floating up to cloud nine.Â
The harsh pants and low growls above you increased in frequency in time with his thrusts. He must be close again.Â
Fortunately, youâve noticed that the breaks between each round have been getting longer and longer. A sign that the rut was ending. If you survive this youâll bring offers to the sanctuary of surasthana to thank the archons for their blessing. Maybe after the feeling returns back to your legs of course.Â
Suddenly your face was pushed into the side of his neck, the scent of sweat now stronger.Â
âBite.â His rugged voice commanded.Â
Ah⌠he wanted you to mark him. With clumsy teeth, you felt around the smooth muscles. You canât sense where his glands were so you just bit down at random along his neck. It was useless, you knew it, but still...
Alhaitham pushed himself eagerly against your teeth, encouraging you to bite harder with a growl. You obliged.Â
His teeth ran along your raw neck, already covered in his bites and hickeys, searching for one last spot. Your jaw clamped down harder as his teeth sank into your neck one last time. Hips stilling as one final wave flooded into you, it was hard to tell when one orgasm ended and another began.Â
Your hands found purchase around his back again, holding him close as you panted against his neck. Against yours a frustrated growl vibrated once more, his muddled mind confused as to why no bond has formed.Â
âWhy?â
There was that cold pierce of pain again.Â
The large hand on the back of your head held your nose close against his searing skin. It couldâve just been your fried nerves, but as the darkness overtook your vision, you couldâve sworn there was a warm and opulent scent of wood and books.
If you were reborn, in the next life could you recognize his scent?
Your eyes opened up to blinding sunlight. Your body ached as if it had been through hell and back, bones threatening to turn into dust at any second. The large bed messy and only occupied by one body. Shifting your sight away from the stinging light, his empty pillow came into view.Â
You werenât sure what came over you, but even as your muscles screamed you pressed your nose into the cold pillow and inhaled. Nothing. Just sweat and disappointment.Â
Just what were you hoping for? That a few nights of passion would birth a miracle? That youâd somehow turn into something you couldnât be? In the end, you were still you. Those novels mustâve rotted your common sense, stupid.Â
Bitter tears fell onto the pillow, you didnât have the strength to hold back the sobs as they wrecked through your body.Â
Yes, you were stupid. So stupid from the very start to believe that this could work. That maybe after a few more years, maybe at the seven-year mark, he could fall in love with you as well.Â
The dream of his tender eyes looking into yours with love crumbled right there in front of you.Â
A cup clanged onto the desk in the room as footsteps quickly made their way to your side, a blurred figure knelt down.Â
âIs your body hurting anywhere? Iâll take you to the Bimarstan.â Alhaitham gently sat your covered figure up, trying to see the extent of the situation.Â
Your small hands pushed against his solid frame, his motion stilled as you refused to allow him to see your face.Â
However, Alhaitham knows he didnât have the right to. Not only did he invade your sacred personal space, but he did so like a wild beast. Not allowing your body to rest or replenish itself as he trapped you to the bed for almost four days. He deduced that you must be hurting, that you must be scared of him now, and that must be the reason behind your tears.Â
Guilt was suffocating him. Those stupid urges, that stupid rut. His stupid hands refusing to let you go.
Throughout your whole marriage, you had put on the mask of independence, someone who did not need to lean on a husband for comfort. Yet here you were, bawling out your eyes in front of him like a child. Your façade has been cracked, tears soaking into his pillow and snot trickling down under his unwavering gaze.Â
What was the look on his face right now? You couldnât see through the mirage of tears blurring your sight, not that you had the courage to face him. Was it disappointment? Right now as he observed your vulnerable figure, did he feel lied to after all these years? Like he had just discovered the defects in a product?Â
The freezing water of self-loathing, doubt, and insecurity filled you like a boat whose haul had been pierced by the jagged edges of an iceberg. You were drowning, your limbs kicking and thrashing with all their might trying to resurface.Â
For a brief moment, your face bobbed above the crashing waves.
âLet's get a divorce.âÂ
Those were the only words you managed to choke out in the space between your sobs before your head disappeared under the murky waters once more.Â
His whole body froze as he processed your words. Alhaitham had already deduced why you wanted to end this relationship, he had hurt and scarred you. Yet, like a child, he still wanted to clamber for more answers.Â
âWhy?â He said through clenched teeth, you couldnât see it but his hands had a slight shake.Â
âWeâre not satisfied, Alhaitham. I-itâs not working, I-i canât satisfy your requirements. I-i canât make you happy, I-i canât make you love⌠me.â Hiccups breaking up your sentences.
That was it, you spilled out all your secrets. Your lungs and throat hurting as if you just pushed salt water out of them.Â
Alhaithamâs hands were balled up so tightly his nails broke the skin on his palms.Â
So, you werenât happy. He couldnât make you happy. He felt as if he had dropped down to the tier of a fool. A fool who didnât know how to make those bitter tears of yours stop.Â
He released you.Â
You felt his presence disappear from your side. The touch of warmth he provides was now gone as coldness fully engulfs your whole being. The tears just wouldnât stop. Is this what those heartbroken sobs actually felt like? Why did you ever think this was something to be desired? You truly were an idiot.Â
You werenât sure how long had passed, a few seconds or a few minutes, but his presence returned back to your side. He looked as if he had something in his hands. Were they divorce papers? Ah, Alhaitham was a man who always had a plan for everything. Did he have a premonition that this marriage was doomed from the start? How long has he had them?
Alhaitham didnât feel like he had the right to touch you. However, he needed to do something to make you look at him. Please, just look at him. His large hands tenderly grasped yours as if they were made from glass. You still hid your face from him.
âI wonât bind you to a life that brings you unhappiness. But.. You have to tell meâ His voice wasnât as steady as he wanted it.Â
âIf you want strolls through the market, tell me. If you want to be woken up with sweet whispers, tell me. If you want to hold hands across a date night table, then tell me. You have to tell me what will make you happy.â He wasnât sure if those were your unfulfilled desires or his.
You could only tighten your grip on his hands as you sobbed harder.Â
Your statement from before was incorrect. Alhaitham is also at fault for this pain you were going through. If there was one feeling that was just as addictive as love, it would be hope. Please, please donât give false hope.Â
âI-iâll disrupt your-r lifeâŚâ You managed to choke out.
His thumb gently stroke the back of your knuckles.
âHow could you ever disrupt something youâre a part of?âÂ
Your hesitant eyes finally met his teal gaze, his eyes soft as opposed to their usual stonewall stare. With the walls down, you were given a glimpse into the whirling emotions behind them. Endearment, sincerity, and hurt danced along the green-blue irises.Â
âAs for your last reason, here. I shouldâve just given this to you directly.â His hands let go of yours, picking up the item he had brought.
He handed over the book you had placed back on your bookshelf a few days earlier, the one he had left his note on. So, he didnât have divorce papers prepared? Your trembling hands accepted it, and through your teary eyes, you finally noticed the torn-out green and gold note contrasting between the cream pages.Â
Tenderly, you unfolded the piece of paper retrieved from the book. Quickly blinking to clear your eyes from excess tears. In the neat script of Alhaithamâs handwriting:Â
âLove born in the heart as opposed to Love born in the brain:
When one loves at first sight or goes looking for love, then one is essentially just attracted to someone for the sake of being with someone. Not looking objectively at any warning signs or relationship flaws one has with someone. If there are any issues, the bias of infatuation blinds you to them.Â
So that's loving with the heart, based solely on carefree addictive emotion, even though it feels stronger and more enthusiastic on the surface.Â
Love from the brain is more logical and objective. You take the time to understand a person, seeing them for them with unbiased eyes. You understand them thoroughly and can maturely and objectively work through the turbulence of life together. Individuals who set aside precious time to manually repair creaks, maintaining the structural integrity of a home that shelters their affections.Â
With the diligence of a conservator preserving ancient scripts on papyrus that should have been disintegrated long ago.Â
The latter rather than the former describes the bond forged between my wife and I.âÂ
Your grip crumpled the side of the paper.
âWhat does this mean?â Hesitation in your voice as tears blurred your vision of his teal eyes.Â
âI love you.â He confessed. Three words have been overdue for years.
âDonât be filled with false hopeâ Your mind echoed.
 âIâm not an OmegaâŚâ
âThatâs not a requirement for love.â
That was it. It was as if youâve been waiting all this time for him to say those words. The words of affirmation you didnât know you needed. The key to free you from the cage of insecurity youâve built for yourself.Â
Your feet now touched the warm sandy bottom as air rushed back into your lungs.
It looks like youâve figured it out. Regardless of what definition of love has been pushed by external forces, these feelings he holds for you are objectively pure and true love. His hands tenderly took yours away from its grip on the paper. If you wanted him to, Alhaitham will spend the rest of his life proving it to you. Heâll conduct every experiment and collect all the data points to present to you.Â
How silly, a red thread spun by two pairs of hands, created through undying trust, respect, and admiration had already tied the two of you in a bond. The love you were trying so hard for had always been right in front of you for five years.
The blanket draped behind your head resembled a wedding veil as the fabric folded and gathered around your trembling body. âBeautifulâ He thought.Â
The room was a mess, sheets and clothes strewn all across the floor. The musk of lust still hung heavy in the air, the residue of sweat and other fluids still clinging to skin. Your hair was all over the place, tears still pouring from your eyes, his hair was no better. But in this moment, there was nothing more Alhaitham wanted to do than this:Â
âWill you take me, Alhaitham, as your lawfully married husband? To love me through sickness and health, through poverty and wealth, and through sun and rain?âÂ
Sobs were still wracking through your body, words unable to form in your mouth but you were nodding your head enthusiastically. Your hands felt small firmly holding onto his larger ones.Â
âI, Alhaitham, will take you as my lawfully married wife. I will love you through sickness and health, through poverty and wealth, and through sun and rain⌠I do.âÂ
It was a silly sight to behold, but in this moment as he finally sees a smile break out on your face, it means the world to him.Â
Thereâs a saying from a well-known poet from Fontaine it goes as follows:
âLove is being stupid together.âÂ
And clearly, the two of you have been very stupid. Oh so stupidly in love. Â

how genshin men react when you fall asleep in lecture
childe will definitely laugh, and then freeze because it came out a little too loudly. youâre still fast asleep though, so he snaps a picture and lets you doze off as the teacher rambles. he thinks youâre cute like this, even if your face is slightly smushed into your notebookâand is that a hint of drool coming out of your mouth? definitely fuel for more teasing later. he will also make a couple jokes when you come to, and should you use his phone in the coming days, youâll see he changed his background to your sleeping face (did he have to use the picture with drool though?)
zhongli will wake you up. heâs very gentle about it. will coo awake under his breath so the teacher doesnât hear it, and should you whine that youâre so very tired, heâll bribe you with promises thereâs only thirty minutes left, you can both get food after this, or take a nap together. unfortunately for you, heâs persistent and wonât give upâand he doesnât feel any shame either, that small smile of his not leaving his face, not even with you give him a pout. oh well. better luck next time.
alhaitham wonât notice that youâve fallen asleep until at least ten minutes into your nap. heâs just so focused on whatever the lecturer is talking about that he doesnât notice youâre sleeping form until youâve slumped over onto his shoulder. he might shrug you off at first, but the effort is lacking and ultimately futile as you snuggle right back up next to him. heâll let you stay, but just know heâs making a sacrifice, because thereâs no way heâs gonna be able to pay attention to the rest of lecture when youâre looking so damn cute next him.
neuvillette wonât let you fall asleep. protest all you want, heâs not going to hear it. perceptive as he is, neuvillette will recognize the telltale signs of you about to fall asleepâthe drooping eyelids, steadier breathing, head knocking forwards and back. heâll nudge you when he feels you getting close to falling asleep, distract you with random questions about the lecture material or if he can borrow your pencils, stuff like that. sometimes itâs a surprise kiss on the cheek and then youâre wide awake. heâs a good-intentioned pain.
wriothesley props up a book in front of you and lets you sleep. youâre a good student, youâve been working hard, you deserve this nap, even if itâs only five minutes into your hour long lecture. itâs sweet, heâs sweet, except that now heâs starting to feel sleepy. suddenly the teacherâs words are starting to fade into the background, heâs yawned several times in the past minute, and your so comfortable that he might just lean inâŚ. you both wake up about an hour after the lecture with a âsee me!â note from the teacher (totally worth it though).
wanderer flicks your forehead and tells you to stop sleeping, this is why youâre near failing the class. you stay awake mostly out of indignation after that one, but if you really canât make it through lecture without a âquickâ power nap, heâll roll his eyes and fork over his sweatshirt as a pillow. heâll take good notes for you while youâre in the realm of unconsciousness and wake you a couple minutes before class ends. his face is almost wide with admiration until he turns into a smirk, before he inquires how was your nap and if he should call you sleeping beauty.

books & cafĂŠ dates . Ë â âš
â your academic rival !
(class president!alhaitham & vice president!reader)
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who immediately got nominated as class president, followed by you as vice president.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who also occasionally visits the library, like you, to study or read.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who is also your academic rival, being at each other's throats all the time. (your classmates and his friends question if you're either flirting or fighting . .)
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who you compete with on who gets the higher score on the exam. god, you hate that slight smirk you see on his face when he wins. your classmates watch you two argue like it's some free show.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who shows more of his emotions when he's with you, unlike that stoic expression always on his face. even his friends are surprised.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who secretly smiles (very slightly) and stares at you when your back is turned. he definitely admires you from afar even if his face doesn't show it.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who, one time, purposely answered some questions wrong on a test so that you could have the joy of winning the little competition you two have. he was trying not to let out that tiny smile when you were rambling on about having won to him.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who prefers novels, while you prefer manga. one time you forced him to read one of your favorites. though, you still have a lot of novels that you personally love.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who accompanies you to the bookstore after school because apparently he was 'just about to go there too'. you both ended up in the cafĂŠ after that.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who has made a silent agreement with you that the cafĂŠ is now your usual meetup place whenever you two are partnered for a project or something similar to that.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who memorizes your favorite drink and food.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who noticed you always drinking those korean milk drinks . . and now you always find a milk box sitting on your desk before class. from a 'secret person'. I wonder who?
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who you always get stuck with while doing your responsibilities as president and vice president. sometimes you two are alone and stuck together in the classroom after class, stapling papers.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who noticed you slowly progressing into calling him 'haitham' instead of his full name.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who has this secret spot with you near the vending machines and benches to eat with you during lunch. he finds it cute how you're always surrounded by the campus cats as he sits next to you on the bench, with the bento box on your lap and a book right next to you.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who loves your soft spot towards animals, and how you two always sit next to each other in the library, reading in comfortable silence.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham who denies EVERY SINGLE sign and statement from his friends that he likes you. he says you're 'just his rival'. yet he so obviously treats you differently from the others.
ŕ¨ŕ§ president!alhaitham whose academic rival will always be you. he wouldn't want any other.<3

âcome back to bed!â + genshin sumeru men.
OO. just morning scenarios with the genshin men!
O1. warnings: a bit on the short side, possible ooc, wandererâs is a bit longer than the rest, not proofread so pls ignore if i made any mistakes ;_;
KAVEH knows you both have to get up for the day, sure. But he pulls you back into bed when you attempt to get up to start your day. Nothing personal, he just thinks you need some well-deserved rest. He mumbles into your neck: âDonât go, youâve still got 15 minutes left before the alarm goes off,â
âAlso⌠we should just stay like this for the day, donâtcha think..?â
ALHAITHAM cooks. He wakes up before you on most occasions, and he decides to make you breakfast. He thinks you deserve that at the very least. (But if it were up to him you would get the world handed to you.) He makes you your favorites, or if you donât have any, he tries to make food you mention, or food heâs seen you enjoy when you two go out.
âI do hope youâll enjoy this, loveâŚâ
the rest under the cut ->
TIGHNARI helps you prepare for the day. Heâll help you with just about everything you can think of. Missing a shoe? Itâs in his hand. Canât find your book? He has it, ready and organized. Looking for breakfast? Heâs already made it. He pays very close attention to what you say so he can be prepared for what the day ahead of you may bring.
âHave a good day, I canât wait for your return.â
CYNO is a mix of both Kaveh & Alhaitham. He knows you both have things to do, sure, thatâs cool, but you could just stay in and cuddle instead. His duties donât need him that long, surely! But on most occasions heâs up bright and early, so heâll do his best to cook up something you both can enjoy over a nice chat about whatâs currently happening in your lives.
âOh. Tell me more, my love. Are you sure that exactly happened? Because you know, as the matra-!â
WANDERER does it all. The first thing he does is cook for you. Heâs asked you whatâd you like as breakfast in advance, and then he prepares what youâll need the night before when you fall asleep. Heâll listen closely to the details like Tighnari, making sure he doesnât miss a single item. And when you do finally start to stir awake, heâs cuddling you right back into bed. It takes a good 30 minutes to convince him that you do have to leave out for the day, he sighs, before he helps you get ready.
âYeah, yeah. Just⌠comeback as soon as you can, alright?â

â alhaitham drabble.
THINKING ABOUT... laying on alhaitham's lap while he's reading, your hair draped over your face as you shuffle around in search of a more comfortable position. a calloused hand would reach down to settle you, resting on the nape of your neck and encouraging you to lay still.
you'd mumble an apology, reaching a hand up to rest just above his knee and stroking it gently with your thumb. he sighs softly, and it seems as if his entire body relaxed under your touch.
"shhh, it's alright. get some rest, darling"
a soft kiss is pressed on your ear, followed by his hand, moving away from your nape to brush the hair out of your face and reveal the small smile plastered on your face. you feel yourself slowly drifting off, the movement of your thumb coming to a stop as you finally succumb to the fatigue that had been weighing you down all day.
alhaitham turns his attention back to his book, holding it open with one hand as he subconsciously strokes your hair tenderly with the other, as if you were a cat. ironically, he often thought you acted like one; taking naps whenever you can and always trying to hide how clingy you are, but you both know you can't bear being away from him. it's why you insisted on sleeping on his lap in the first place, even though the option of sleeping in bed was very much available. you knew he wouldn't want to give up his designated reading time, so you assured him that you'd be more than comfortable. little did you know, he would've happily set his book down to cuddle with you, but you seemed so determined to sleep on his lap that he didn't have the heart to tell you otherwise. oh well, as long as you're happy...

How do you think the Sumeru boys would react to their s/o getting shrunk?
An interesting scenario... đ Characters Included: Tighnari; Cyno; Alhaitham; Kaveh (+Wanderer) Content: gender neutral reader; established relationship; idk if this classifies as crack??; bit of comedy; bits of fluff Word count: 910 words Have fun<3
Tighnari
I personally see this going one of two ways
first, when realizing what has happened, he'd drop everything, all his work and responsibilities, and try to figure out how this happened and how to turn you back to normal again
or, he would want to do that, but he just can't because something really important is happening today... then, as shitty as this sounds, he'd just take you along with him, like in a backpack or pocket or something. Because he does not trust that nothing won't happen to you while he's out and about
whichever it is, he'd be very gentle with your tiny form and take very good care of you
when first noticing your current predicament, Tighnari would be shocked, maybe laugh a little bit, but he'd soon focus on helping you figure things out
he's not too keen on you staying this way for a longer period of time, or even forever, so he'd work hard on finding a solution
overall okay reaction, very helpful and polite about it, though he does put out an occaisonal comment here and there. But it's all in good fun, so don't worry
Cyno
oh boy
you best prepare to be the butt of every of his jokes for the foreseeable future from now on
even if you manage to turn you back to normal, he will not let you forget about this incident, ever
would probably laugh at you, questioning you how you even managed that in the first place
but all jokes aside, he IS worried about you, so he does the only thing he can think about
he grabs you very carefully and carries you to Tighnari, hoping that his friend and Forest Ranger might know or can help to come up with a solution to the problem
he'll stay there with you until you're back to normal, that means that his work will be put on hold, no matter what anyone has to say about it
will turn restless and worried if there's no easy or quick solution available, but will do his best to support you, even though he will still make jokes about you
Alhaitham
shock and surprise is his first initial reaction
like, frozen on his spot, kinda shocked
does not know how to react appropriately or what to say, at all. One of the few times in his life where he's actually speechless
once he's recovered from the shock, he's asking you a whole lot of question. If you remember how this happened, how you feel, if you noticed anything unusual, if you maybe know how to revert back, etc
just, literally any question that comes to his mind, really
he views this entire situation very neutral, like some sort of experiment that he wants to figure out
and since you're the only one affected and involved, it's only obvious that he asks you all these questions
plus, by answering them, he might be able to figure out what's going on and how to revert you back to normal
if he can't come up with a solution on his own, he'd go into the House of Daena, searching for every book available that is loosely connected to the issue at hand
should that still not deliver results, he'll help you consult doctors and other specialists in order to help you get better again
Kaveh
full on panic mode activated
he sees what has happened to you, and freaks out over it
almost impossible to calm him down again. And since your voice is a lot quieter in your tiny form, you have to almost shout out your lungs in order to get his attention again
out of the two of you, you're definitely the calmer and more levelheaded one in this situation
he's helping you with whatever you need. When you ask him to take you to the doctors, he does so, no questions asked
though you have to constantly remind him to not squeeze you so hard in his hands
cut him some slack, will you? He's not used to something like this, he has to constantly remind himself to treat you carefully and gently
will freak out again if no one can figure out what is wrong with you or how to treat you
he may not have much money, but you best believe he's putting every single Mora he has into trying to figure this out and get you back to your normal self
Wanderer
shocked at first, but will soon start to tease you about it relentlessly
he'll lovingly call you names like "shorty", "shortcake", and other stuff, now that you're so much tinier than him
he's having his fun teasing you for some time, but in the end, he does worry about you and wants you back to your usual self
since he doesn't trust you to be by yourself while like this, he carefully picks you up when he goes to pay Nahida a visit, thinking that she might know something about what has happened to you
together, the three of you would put your heads together, trying to figure something out
would feel annoyed if you're still in this state by the end of the day, but tries not to show it. It's not your fault after all, and you can't really do anything about it, so he doesn't want to let it out on you
but you best believe that it's his top priority from now on to get to the bottom of this. And should he find out that someone else is responsible for this, then they best prepare , because he won't go easy on them should he ever come across them...
