â pasalubong.

pairing: kinich x gn!reader
premise: kinich wasn't a sentimental person at heart, until you left to travel. neither was he easily upset, but here he was, undoubtedly upset that you didn't give him a gift with your recent package.
â warnings: ooc-kinich and ajaw (still havent done the new aq), he's a bit down bad, and misses you dearly.
â author's note: this is not angst despite the premise LMFAO. art credits to @.n429g on twt. | 1.6k words.
âdelivery for kinich!â a mail man shouted, trying his best to not look down over the ledge the scions of the canopy is held. âdelivery for kiââ
âi heard ya!â the small dragon yells, taking the sealed letter and small box from the manâs hands and throws a pouch of mora as thanks.Â
the man sweat drops at the comical sight of the tiny dragonlord floating up to where kinich was. said man was dangling his legs over the ledge, hair swaying with the wind and an indifferent look on his face as he swats away his small companion and roughly takes the letter in his hands. he could only assume that the two had started another argument once again.
with a sigh, he cups a hand to his mouth and shouts, âthank you for your patronage!â
kinich looked in his direction and gave him a small nod. there were few postal workers here in natlan, so he made sure to at least pay the man generouslyâespecially with how his legs shake and hand clutch the side of the mountain for dear life.
ajaw continued to punch and tug at his head but his attention had zeroed in on the envelope. it felt heavier than the last and you had sent a small package with it. âfor my dearest, kinich & almighty dragon lord, ajaw.â the small note said with your signature right below it as well as a wax seal at the corner. your penmanship makes kinich smile and before ajaw can open his mouth, he takes the grapple on his waist and zips away to find a secluded place to open your gifts. they were sacred to him and therefore had to be treated with utmost care.
when he lands on teticpac peak, he sits down by one of the rocks and gently peels away the seal. kinich makes a mental note to stop by a market to get a new container for all your letters, after all, his bedside drawer can only hold so much of you over the years.Â
âto my dearest, kinich,â
with just four words, you had him smiling like a fool. one hand propped behind his back to support his weight as he leisurely soaks in your stories like a sponge. ajaw sits by his shoulder, impatiently demanding him to open the box that came along with your letter. kinich was not even half way with reading before he relentedâyou always had a knack for making pages and pages of stories, but he didnât mind. you have been away for nearly 7 years now and send only a letter or two every few years. kinich learned to appreciate the pages of your love every time they arrive.
âhurry up!â ajaw demanded, waiting with bated breath as kinich opened the box. âlearn to be patient, ajaw.â
the dragon only huffed and turned around but it didnât take long before he dove head first into the array of gifts. while his little companion drowned in material luxuries, kinich took out items in piles and made a mental note to give them to their respective owners.
kinich tucked the small pouch with xilonenâs name along with your letter for her at his side. he will deliver these to her first, he concludes. as heâs sifting through the items, kinich catches a glimpse of ajaw sitting on a toy foxâs head with a small note with kachinaâs name. the final item that seemed important was a small box containing colorful seashells with mualaniâs name on it.
his brows furrowed in confusion as he sets all the gifts down carefully and sifts through the package one more time. and again, and again, until his lower back felt sore. ajaw noticed his antsy behavior and decided to look at what all the fuss was about. kinich sat down, head lowered with his bangs covering his eyesâajaw was beginning to worry (but he would rather die than verbally admit it).
âhey!â ajaw turned to kinich who had stiffly stood up. clutching at your letter as the sliver of expectancy in his eyes dimmed. âdon't tell me they actually forgot about you?â
âletâs go back,â he says with a subtly sullen voice. âwe have to deliver these to the others.â
ajaw makes no further comment and sits on his shoulder as they zip from one place to another. he doesnât point out the way kinichâs eyes looked duller and the way a frown tugged at his lipsâhe was upset.Â
âhmph! i'll be sure to show them a piece of my mind when they get back!" the dragon complains to him as they arrive back home. kinich beelined his way back to his residence, a bit more aggressive than he normally would.
he doesnât want to admit that he was upsetâit was stupid. so what if you didnât get him a gift after not hearing from you for almost a year? but how come everyone else had one? hell even citlani and mavuika received one, so why didnât he?
with a click of his tongue he pushed past all the people in his way, muttering half hearted apologies here and there as ajaw kept calling his name. kinich was not upset nor was he disappointedâhe wasnât a child chasing after the trail of gold you left behind anymore. he was an adult now, someone people look up to and admire. kinich was no longer the shy kid that always wondered if he could ever chase after you.
âkinich!â
with the shout of his name, he was taken back to memory lane. how you would call to him from the ground, a pair of wheels at your feet as you glided through the rocky terrain as if it were made of ice. the smile you flash him as you point to your finish line makes his heart skip a few beats, rendering him only to reply in a nod because his mind has turned into a mushy puddle.Â
âkinich!â
you have always been golden in his eyes. smiles bright like the sun, kindness gentle like its morning rays, and hypnotizing in the starry trail you leave behind. kinich remembers the first time he tried his hands on rollerblades. he felt unwittingly afraid of standing on his own two feet, the possibility of his world turning upside down with one single step scared him. but you were always there to ward away his fears. it wasnât long before he took them off and said with a dead expression that he will never try them again. the laugh that he managed to steal from your lungs made all his suffering worth it.
âkinich!â
he doesnât like letting things go, not when youâve taught him how to cherish every little thing. but heâd hate himself if he kept you from your dreams. so there he was, all those years ago, standing by natlanâs borders, unable to say goodbye as the rest bid theirs. you had to make him face youâgently cupping his jaw with both hands and flashing a small smile, giving him a tempting offer.
âlet me stay,â you said. you were willing to give up your dreams if it meant making him happy. kinich didnât want his happiness, he wanted yours.
âleave,â he said bluntly. it made you laugh because it sounded incredibly rude, but the way he held your hand in his shaking hold, lip bitten until it almost bled, everyone knew he was struggling the most.
âiâll give you souvenirs,â you offered as consultation and it took every willpower he had to say he only wanted you.Â
âiâll keep them safe.â he replied and you smiled.
âkinich!â
urging you to travel has been the best and worst decision in his lifeâyou were enjoying your life but he was stuck missing you. his longing for the sun in his life greatly outweighed his happiness for you. how can he be happy when happiness is spelled with your name? the way you smile, and the way you leave a golden trail?
âkinich.â
âajaw, enouââ his sentence was cut off when he turned to look at the smiling faces of his tribe. brows furrowed in confusion as he searched the crowd for a certain green dragon, but all his eyes could see was gold.
the wind in his lungs was stolen as the images of smiling faces turn to fade, his attention solely on you in the distance, ajaw by your side as you both waved him over. as fast as the winds could take him, kinich ran straight in your armsâhis home. your laugh ringed like morning birds and your hands felt warm like the afternoon heat. you were home; you were his gift.
âpasalubong, for kinich,â you say with a teasing lilt to your voice.Â
âpasalubong?â he repeats, hands coming to cradle your smiling face. âwhat does that mean?â
you smile wider and hold his hands with your own. âit means gifts given by homecomers. but,â you tuck away a stray piece of his hair behind his ear as you tempt him in another embrace. âit can also mean âto meet again.ââ
kinich laughedâairy and bright, like the setting sun. this was so you, he thought, burying his head in your neck. trying to make up for all the lost physical contact he had missed.Â
âthank you for the gift.â he said with a smile.
you pat him on the back and hummed in delight. âi came back just for you.â
âiâm honered,â he jests and takes a step back, not letting your hand go. âyou should be! the trip back home is nothing short of tedious!â
he chuckles because kinich knows heâs a goner. no need for xilonenâs amused teasing, mualaniâs persistence and kachinaâs curiosity. everyone in his tribe and maybe even natlan knew, kinich would wait for you knowing youâll eventually come home to him.

â my proxy.

pairing: wise x gn!reader
premise: belle is currently suffering from an incurable disease of watching her brother play oblivious to your obvious hints of affection. she only prays that you confess soon or at least realize that wise actually feels the same.
â warnings: none
â author's notes: i am so normal about wise. whenever he starts talking in game i just burst into a fit of giggles. filler post for now. | ~700 words.
wise despite his name, wasnât all that wise when it comes to noticing the very obvious hints you throw at him (or maybe he does know, he just isnât speaking up about it). but belle does, and it sends her into a fit of giddy giggles that she hides behind her fist whenever it happens.
a fond and amused glint in her eyes whenever wise gets flustered after you call him âmy proxyâ. it wasnât anything out of ordinary, wise always calls himself your proxy anyways, but whenever you do it on missions or when you go to hollows to accompany the cunning hares, it never fails to flush his cheeks a pretty pink. belle would let out a snicker and kick his feet from under the table and sheâs always met with a warning glare. not once has he mentioned the romantic undertones of your words despite picking up on it himself.Â
or the times when you would always drop by their store to hangout in his room. more often than not, when belle comes to check on you both, youâd be fast asleep on his bed with a bangboo in between you two. a devious smirk would always creep up belleâs face when she tip toes into the room and quietly open the cap of a washable marker to write on both of your faces. wise, when he wakes up, would come running down the stairs to chase belle around for writing â[name]âs proxyâ in big bold letters on his cheek while you laugh. never once wiping the words of âwiseâs hollow raiderâ with a heart on the cheek opposite to wiseâs.Â
belle isnât ignorant nor is wise, but it does frustrate her when her brother doesnât speak up about his very obvious feelings about you. a sudden feeling of irritation blooming within her chest when she sees your crestfallen expression when wise keeps calling you âjust a friendâ when general cop or the tin master ask what your relationship is. belle doesn't miss the flash of slight hurt in your eyes before you mask it with an awkward smile and wave of your hand, agreeing with what wise said even though you obviously want to be something more than just a friend.
sheâs frustrated with you too. the hours the two of you spend in their workspace, curled up on the couch as you vent out your frustration at wiseâs obliviousness. eight out of ten times, belle would just urge you to confess directly, however, you would always go quiet and murmur into the bangboo in your arms that confessing isnât an option. at first, belle was rightfully confused. she saw how you looked at wise; you looked at him as if he hung the sun and moon himself. he was your entire world and you had him putty in your hands with just two words. it wasnât until the day after when belle finally realizes âwhen nicole has her arms wrapped around your waist and an angry flush on her face when you enter their store battered and bruised, but still smilingâ that this was a first for you too.Â
before becoming a regular client, you would recklessly jump into hollows without a carrot or a proxy. barely making it out alive if nicole hadnât found you and made you a member of her little band of misfits. you were enamored with wise when he first patched you up. you didnât have anyone before him that cared enough to lecture you about danger, your recklessness, and bad habits. he was probably the first person that genuinely showed concern for you so belle understood for a moment why you didnât want to confess. sheâs watched enough romance movies and read books and comics to know that confessing has its risks. your friendship that you painstakingly built with her brother brick by brick would come crumbling down if you said those three words.
âmy dearest proxies,â you barreled into their store front with a bright grin. belle doesnât miss the twinkle in wiseâs eyes when he sees you. âletâs go out for lunch. my treat!â
âwhatâs the occasion?â wise asks, putting down the boxes of videotapes on the counter to give you his undiverted attention.
your grin reached your eyes as you waved a piece of parchment in front of them both. âitâs paycheck day! and what better way than to treat my proxies to lunch for taking such good care of me.â
âcount me in!â belle merrily jogs towards you and gives you a high five.
âwhat do you say wise?â belle flashed her brother with a knowing look. the boy only shook his head and started leading the two of you out the store.
âwell, how can i say no to free food?â
wise stole a laugh from your lungs as you tangled your arms with them both. âthatâs my proxy. now letâs go!â
belle never misses the way wiseâs cheeks flush whenever you intertwine your arms together; it was as easy as breathing for you. she just hopes that one day youâll see for yourself that wise also feels the same, heâs just clueless and a little shy to show it unlike you.

â the only exception.

pairing: rin itoshi x gn!reader
premise: itoshi rin isnât a very likable person in general. heâs rude and doesnât have any respect for anyone, well other than you. quite literally attached to the hip, you were the only one that rin actually âtoleratesâ. everyone still wonders why you even put up with him, but dear, if they actually cared enough to look past his icy exterior maybe then theyâd be rewarded with the soft and clingy rin you knew.
â warnings: ooc-rin (??), just rin fluff
â authorâs note: this is reupload from my old blog ( syriiina ). i also might start writing for bllk again so yippie!! art credits to @l_An_pi on twt.
â tags: @ryescapades @mitsvriii @laterosal @mikashisus @powchakko ; if youâd like to be tagged, please fill out the form on my pinned or send me an ask off anon!
ârin!â you shouted, hands frankly waving from the stands as the tall boy jogged towards you. leaning over the railing, hands neatly folded in front of you as you grinned at your sweaty friend who only raised a brow at you. âdo you wanna go to the arcade later after practice?â
from the corner of your vision, you could see his teammates speak in hushed tones. you couldnât help the amused chuckle in your throat as you patiently waited for rin to answer your invitation.
âwhy not?â you grinned, âweâll be done in 10 minutes, mind waiting for me?â you just nodded and sat down on one of the vacant seats of the seating area while rin jogged back to the field with his teammates. laughing at how his team was interrogating the poor boy.
10 minutes flew by quickly, at this point you had stood up from your seat and made your way back to the entrance, waiting for rin to finish his shower and change. a few more minutes passed by before you heard the soft padding of footsteps behind you. it wasnât long when a tap on your shoulder made you look up from your phone. grinning when familiar eyes with long under lashes came to greet you.
âyou ready to go?â duffel bag carelessly slung over his shoulder, he followed you out of the school and to the arcade you had mentioned earlier. âyou seem happy for a trip to the arcade.â he said, tugging at your hand slightly when you were near the crossing âhe was making sure you didnât get run over by a vehicle â before letting go and instead taking hold of your bag.
unlocking your phone, you showed rin of the new crane machine that had been installed a few days ago. âarenât those machines scams?â he asked you, flailing your arms around a bit saying thatâs not the point. he only sighed and let you ramble about how the plushies in the machine were cute.
âyouâll help me get one right?â
âno.â
you knew it was a lie.Â
by the time you made it to the arcade, you made a beeline to the new crane machine while rin got the tokens. he sighed again when he saw you beckoning him over, eager to play the scam machine to try and get a plushie that wasnât even worth all the hassle.
ârin letâs go get lunch!â
no one was really surprised by your presence when you were by the door of the classroom, already anticipating your arrival minutes prior. it was exactly noon, meaning youâll be by the classroom door waiting for itoshi rin to finish packing up to go get lunch at the cafeteria.
âno packed lunch today?â he asked, one hand shoved inside his pant pocket. you only shook your head, moving aside from the door to give room for rin to get out of the classroom, ânot today, was too lazy to cook.â
as the taller male closed the door, everyone began to wonder as usual. someone as stoic and indifferent as itoshi rin hanging out with you, they thought of it as a strange combo but neither of you ever really bothered to care about how people perceived your relationship.
âi hope the strawberry cheesecake isnât sold out yet.â
from the corner of his eye, rin saw the silver bracelet move along with your hand as you got your wallet out of your pockets. gaze lingering more than he should, ârin? you good there?â you asked but he only nodded his head. turning his focus on the corridor buzzing with students but every now and then, heâd take glances at you.
you always never bother pointing it out. you take pleasure in the simple normalcy routine with rin.
âsorry iâm hanging out with rin later! maybe next time?â
âiâll pass for today, i promised rin iâd help him with homework.â
âiâm going to watch rinâs match, iâll see you guys later!â
âoh right rin said he needed some new pens. be right back!â
ârin letâs go eat lunch! i packed a bento for the both of us!â
ânot eating with itoshi today?â your friend asked as she pulled out the chair in front of you, taking out her own lunch and placing it on your table. you only shook your head, âalready finished. heâs at practice now.â
her gaze lingered a little over your figure, you only tilted your head to the side, âis there something on my face?â
âno, no, itâs justâŠâ
âjust?â taking another bite of your lunch you patiently waited for your friend to ask her question.
âyou and itoshi seem really close.â
you just shrugged, continuing to eat your lunch as she sighed. the both of you were enveloped in silence for a while before she asked another question.
âiâm a bit surprised you put up with him. i mean, didnât you say you donât really like people like him?â
that question made you stop chewing and begin to ponder. it didnât take long for you to come up with an answer, âhe isnât so bad if you get to know him well enough.â you said with a smile. almost laughing at your friendâs face as she gave you a bewildered face.
âseriously? he didnât brainwash you or anything did he?â
letting out a laugh, you waved your hand, âyou watch way too many movies. no, he didnât brainwash me or anything.âshe sighed and just continued to eat her lunch.Â
itoshi rin may not be the most likable student, but you like him. he may not show it but he truly does care. all does impromptu visits to arcades, tugging at your sleeve, arm, and even hand in some occasions to make sure you didnât stray too far from him, getting you those plushies in the crane machine even if it takes hours, coming over to your place to help you cook lunch for the next day because he knows you hate the food in the cafeteria most of the time, giving you his jersey so you could wear it during his match. itoshi rin shows his affection in his own unique and simple ways.
they donât know him like you do. they knew the rin whoâs stoic, rude, disrespectful and arrogant. but you? the rin you know is kind, caring, sweet, a bit rough around the edges but heâs your rin. the rin you wouldnât trade for the world.
if only they knew that he was the one that gifted you the silver bracelet that adorned your wrist â his name engraved on the inside â when he first confessed. and theyâll never know how thereâs a silver chain around his neck with a ring â your initial delicately engraved on it â that he always wears no matter where he goes.
no one knows of your relationship. no one needed to know of your relationship.
rin from the very beginning was a private person, and you never minded. after all, why would you complain when you have him all for yourself?

â jealous charms.

pairing: wise x gn!reader
premise: when jealous, wise had an interesting habit of trying to outdo whoever caught your attention. he needn't worry though, he'll still be your favorite forever.
â warnings: none
â author's note: another filler fic until i finish that one sunday fic that i've been marinating for 2 days now. | ~1.7k words.
âmaster, is it safe to conclude that youâre jealous of miss grace howards from belobog industries? youâve been awfully engrossed in trying to replicate her creation for [name].â
a loud clatter echoed in the room as the pair of pliers in wiseâs hand suddenly dropped to his work table. your head darts to wiseâs hunched figure. his back was awfully straight and shoulders tensed as you raised an amused brow at him when he stood up from his seat and marched his way to fairy. muttering quiet curses as the bangboo on your lap tilted its head at him.
âis that why youâve been glaring at her whenever we visit the construction site?â you questioned with a teasing tone. wise swiveled his head to your direction and narrowed his gentle eyes at you but you only let out an amused snort. he looked more like a wet cat than a big shot proxy with the way his cheeks burned red all the way to the tips of his ears. the color could probably rival the red tassel earring you gave him last year on chinese new years.
âfirstly, i am not jealousââ
âi would beg to differ, master.â
âsecond!â wise turned to fairy, a hand to his hip while the other ran down his face, voice raising slightly as he tried to rid off the flustered tint on his cheeks. âif i were to be jealous of someone, it wouldnât be grace.â
âwill mister anton from belobog industries be the next candidate?â the ai quipped at him making the gray haired boy groan in frustration.
a laugh rippled from your chest as wise pouted and begrudgingly went back to his work station. but not before narrowing his eyes one last time at a glowing blue eyeball (?) that was fairy.
âaww wise itâs okay,â you gently place the bangboo down on the floor and make your way to wise. trying your hardest to take a peek at whatever heâs been working on. or at least get confirmation that he was actually making what you thought he was making. âeveryone gets jealous sometimes.â
wise didnât appreciate your teasing remark because he rolled his eyes at you and threw a piece of paper at your face. âseeing as though youâre not doing anything, do me a favor and pick up some more films for the store.â
it was your turn to pout. âjealousy doesnât suit you at all, wise.â
with a sigh, you reluctantly left the room when he raised a brow at you with a smirk tugging at his lips. you hated how such a small quirk up of his lips melted all of your teasing. but then again, when it comes to anything related to wise you didnât put up too much of a fight, no matter what it was.
â â
wise was not jealous. he repeatedly reminded himself of those words like a broken record. reciting it like a mantra in his head as he continued to bend and break the pieces of metal in front of him.
âmaster, now that the subject of your affection is gone, will you finally admit to being jealous?â
fairyâs words sent a shiver down his spine, silently thanking belle and you for going out to the arcade and prolonging your inevitable return even more. if either one of you heard fairy, he wouldnât be able to live it down. a defeated sigh left his lips when he dropped his tools and buried his head in his arms.
âfairy, please just shut up.â wiseâs voice was no more than a muffled plea as fairy continued to torment him.
âbut all the data iâve collected all share the same conclusion: you are jealous master.â
wise turned his head to their hdd system that glowed blue as fairyâs avatar floated. âokay so maybe i am a little jealous.âÂ
âbut why, master?â wise felt an oncoming headache approach as fairy listed out the reason why he shouldnât be jealous. âhollow raider [name] has made it clear on many occasions that they favor you the most. their sudden interest in miss grace howards cannot compare to their interest in you.â
wise knew that but it still didnât feel right to him. with a groan he dropped his head back on the desk, his free hand coming to inspect the silver band heâs been working on for the past few weeks. âyouâre making me feel stupid here, fairy.â an uncharacteristic pout graced his lips when he remembered how your eyes shined like bright diamonds when grace showed you her newest invention.
âitâll help you in the hollows!â she had proudly proclaimed. and ever since that day, youâve been wearing the bracelet that doubled as a tracker for both your health and your position to every mission you took on. wise felt the pricks of jealousy whenever you praised the older woman with a dazzling grin and an excited âit was very helpful!â
âiâm also helpful.â he muttered to no one in particular.Â
âof course you are! youâre my proxy after all.â
wise felt his heart lurch out his chest as he hurried hid the band inside his hand when you appeared in the room. like a deer caught in headlights, he stiffly smiled at you. âw-when did you get backâŠ?â he cooly asked, or at least he hoped it sounded cool enough for you to brush off whatever you heard.
with your hands behind your back, you stalked your way to his desk. âjust a moment ago. belle is shelving all the new films now.â you lean in closer to wiseâs space, trying for the second time to catch a glimpse at whatever it was he was working on. a tentative smile forming on your face when you ask him, âwill you finally show me what youâre making? i wonât laugh, i promise.â
you certainly wouldnât laugh, but you would tease him relentlessly. a final sigh escaped him as he leaned back on his seat and opened up the hand that hid his creation. âitâs⊠really nothing.â his voice was unusually timid when you walked over to his desk and took a peak. being in such close proximity with you has his poor heart and mind swimming. you wore perfume today and it was all wise could think about as you gingerly pick up the silver band.
âyou need to give yourself more credit, wise.âÂ
this wasnât good. if you continued to look at him like that he would surely melt into a puddle, and that would be incredibly embarrassing. a smile broke out from your face as you unclipped graceâs wristband and put wiseâs creation on your wrist.
âdoes it have any functions?â wise has always enjoyed your curious nature. sure, it got you in trouble most of the time, but he found it incredibly endearing. he shook his head and opened up the closest drawer and pulled out a matching band several sizes smaller. ânot any advanced ones, not yet at least.â
wise stood up from his seat and picked up the bangboo peacefully dozing off in one of the corners. taking its small arm gently, he slid the band over and glowed a soft white. the same thing happened to the one you wore and wise swore he felt his heart skip a few beats when you looked at him with big eyes filled with wonder.
âbut it can accurately track your ether aptitude and send me an emergency message when youâre reaching your limit,â picking up the bangboo in his arms, wise made his way back to his desk and placed the little creature on it. âitâs still a work in progress, but i hope itâll eventually be able to map out full hollows without much trouble.âÂ
your silence made wise nervous. you were never this quiet and he didnât dare to look at you. that is until he felt a pair of arms wrap around his head and the scent of your perfume invading his senses. his breath started to quicken as you nuzzled your face into his hair, hands resting on his shoulders. wise felt his entire body tingle when your chuckle vibrated through his entire body and left a fuzzy feeling in his chest, a swarm of freed butterflies fluttering inside his stomach when you pulled away. warm hands holding both of his cheeks that were no doubt burning a bright red.
âdid you make this for me?â wise didnât like the way your eyes crinkled into amused crescents. âor did you just want to outstage miss grace?â he heard your laugh ring out when he turned his head to the side and murmured a soft maybe into your palm.
âgod youâre so cute you know that?â a wide smile spread across your face as you smothered the boy into another hug. âdonât worry, no one could ever replace my proxy.â
wise wasnât a physically affectionate person, not by a lot at least. but right now when he feels your laughter so close to his heart, he canât help but wish to stay in your embrace. his arms slowly snaked to wrap around your waist and pull you closer, wanting to hug you like how your skin hugs the bones that make up your entirety. how lovely it must be to live inside your heart, to feel every beat pulsing through him as he listens to your heartbeat. slightly erratic but still calm, so unlike his that was beating so rapidly he feared it might escape his ribs and offer itself to you.Â
âmaybe i was a little jealous.â he didnât know what urged him to say that but the laughter it stole from you made him smile like a fool. wise would stay jealous forever if you would hug him like this every time to assure him that he was still your favorite form of protection.
âthank you for always caring about me, wise.â there was such vulnerability in your voice that made wise tremble in your hold. all he could offer was a hum as he buried his head further into your chest making you chuckle. if only you knew the lengths he would go to just to keep you glued to his side, away from all harm and danger.

ౚৠthe nameless king, phainon â historians can only wonder what your relationship was with amphoreus' king.
a nameless new king who ascended to the throne andbrought new heroes with him is sure to be written down in history. with a silver blade and its golden hilt shining under the sunlit battlefields, soldiers and enemies alike revel in his glory. even as the sky turned red and the black tides beckoned, deliverance was always there to keep them at bay.Â
his mission was simple and sound, freeing this world of the darkness that consumed his home. one would say he was a foolish boy for daring to draw a sword against a god when he was only but a child, but his right hand man would argue it was his destiny to protect. with the attack so sudden and their heroes falling, people could not help but feel their hope flicker out and die. and you? you stayed close by the future kingâs side, shaking hands clutching at his bloodstained shawl as he fought with a dull blade meant for training. but despite all the fear and red stained hopelessness, you still chose to remain by his side, and you wouldnât have it any other way.
even at his coronation, he dared to refuse the crown if you were not by his side. what a rude child he was to ask the king for a nobody like you to help him get dressed, but he made no complaint. this child, with white hair that glistened like snow in winter and eyes like the oceans reflecting a sunrise view, phainon was this worldâs new kingâtheir new hero. and you would be his trusted right hand.
the people cheered when he took the palaceâs balcony. stretches upon stretches of miles filled with his now citizens as they cheered and chanted his name like a prayer. âall hail the new king!â âin the name of deliverance!â these words fell deaf in his ears when his eyes trailed off the side, eventually settling on your figure draped in clothing you were uncertain to wear. hidden by the dancing curtains and the afternoon sun hitting your skin while your hair was decorated with a golden laurel wreath. you were his right hand man. you were his. and phainon thought, âmaybe being a king wasnât too bad after all.â
and as the years went by and more wars emerged, people grew doubtful. but not you. no, never you. in spite of all the bloodshed, you were patient with your care and assistance. rubbing off the blood that stained his body, or how you tend to the sword heâs used recklessly, you were never once swayed with the masses questioning. youâd still greet him warmly by the palace gates, help him settle in bed and let you treat him as if he were a child. to you, maybe he wasâhe grew up too fast, putting the worldâs responsibilities on a plate meant for childhood games and dreams.
âare you not afraid?â he ends up asking one night as he laid in his bed. one whole arm wrapped in tight bandages as you folded his clothes by the bedâs edge. you turn to him curiously, the innocence of your childhood still in the glimmers of your eyes but it never glazes with ignorance. phainon thinks you are an angel sent from above in this lightâface half illuminated by the candle in his room, his cape at your lap, and the clothing that was distinctively made to match his. in this light you were utterly and wholly his.
âof what?â you asked in return. a soft smile tugging at your lips as you move closer to him. your hand brushed with his and phainon is struck with fear the enemy could ever place on him.Â
the king wonders. quietly and introspectively. completely to himself but still bare to you. âare you not afraid of me?â
and to his surprise, you laugh. heâs bewildered beyond imagination as his mind races with thoughts he could not fully process. âwhy are you laughing?â he asked with a furrow of his brows. hand twitching under your hold as if youâve held him captive against his will. but deep down in his heart, phainon would not mind to be your poor servant if it meant seeing you every second of the day.
âit was a silly question, thatâs all.âÂ
something changed in the way you looked at him that night. because the following day, and the day after that, and until the end of the month, you looked at him gently. that he was far more valuable than any life on this planet. the look of what he assumed was love. and he replies by giving you the same look, but with actions instead.Â
he is still a kingâa soldier meant to fight in war and not a lover meant to be in your holdâbut he wanted to be yours, too. phainon didnât want to claim you as his because you wake him up with gentle humming, settle him on the dining table with meticulous meals to satiate his unusual pickiness, or because you treat the clothing heâs deemed a curse like a part of his being that needs to be cherished. no, no, that was unbefitting of your grace and level.Â
you deserved to be drowned in your favorite flowers, a dance partner under the starry night, and a future monarch that his home already loves. without meaning to, you and the nameless king of heroes have eloped to becoming lovers outside prying eyes. anyone would notice how king phainon had stars in his eyes whenever you walked in the room, how he always reached for your hand like how he did with his sword, or whenever he sought you out first during every gala or ball. you were already each otherâs without having to say it or even act on itâloving has become as easy as breathing.
some historians will argue that you were only the kingâs right hand, always there to serve as a clear voice in his cloudy mind. but others would argue you were more his lover, partners for eternity with entwined souls. but to phainon, you were more than these two thingsâyou were his deliverance, a sanctuary in this exhausting world.

â retail therapy. ft sunday

â warnings: slight angst if you squint hard enough
â author's note: self-indulgent stellaron hunter sunday after playing the new tb quest. ~2.4k words.
âis thisâŠâ sunday gestures with his hands, âalso part of our script?â
you let out a laugh. balancing firefly and kafkaâs shopping bags in your hands, you only shook your head at the angel-like man with an amused smile on your lips.Â
âno, it is not.â kafka was browsing the dress sections with keen interest, blade was peering over silver wolfâs shoulder watching her as she played yet another video game, and firefly was looking over the rack of new hats. âbut itâs a good change of pace. you all deserve to relax after such a hard mission.â
âi donât think this really fits my criteria of relaxation, [name].â you only laugh at sundayâs sigh. offering him a small pat on the back and dragging him by his sleeve to where kafka was beckoning you over. âyouâll get used to it eventually. next time, weâll do something that fits your criteria of relaxation.â
the silver haired man only shook his head. but deep down you knew he was enjoying himself â the wings behind his ears often betrayed him by openly showing what he actually felt. every now and then, they would flutter and puff up whenever silver wolf drags him to another section with new games or when he tries to deny kafkaâs attempt at getting him a new shirt or coat (after his wings fluttered a bit too hard at this one coat kafka bought it immediately).
âwhat do you think?â you ask as you put down the bags that've been weighing down on your arms. âabout us, i mean, are you adjusting well?â
you notice sundayâs hesitation, you always have when it comes to him â he often wonders how wise and knowledgeable you are to know how he felt. a hum left your lips as you sat down on one of the offered chairs at the shoe section while blade reached to the top shelf to get what firefly was pointing at.Â
âiâŠâ he starts, voice just above whisper. âdonât know.â
another hum escapes your lips. scooting over to make space for him and patting the space, urging him to sit besides you. sunday does, though reluctantly, sit beside you as you watch silver wolf giggle at fireflyâs struggle to walk in heels. bladeâs hands hover over her figure as she stomps her way over to the shorter girl to pinch her cheeks to which she protested.
âtheyâre nice people.â you say, gaze never leaving them. âthe galaxies may say otherwise, but they're truly the kindest people i have ever met.â
âi⊠apologize.â
you raise a brow at him. âwhatâs with the apology?âÂ
âi have only ever thought of the five of you as bad people.â sunday admits with a heavy heart. eyes finding much entertainment on his gloves that you had gifted. âi⊠do not know how to act around you all, when iâve only ever heard bad things about you. it feels wrong to suddenly be thrusted into your already tight knit group.â
you only hum in understanding. hand coming to caress the top of his head when you stood up when blade called you over.
âwe understand, mr. sunday.â you gave him a small smile as you picked up the many shopping bags you had. âthese sorts of things take time, just take it one step at a time.â
he only nods. and like the gentleman that he is, steals away the heavier bags in your hands with an awkward smile.
â
âdo you miss the person you were before you joined?â
you wonder if blade has ever mentioned to sunday how you loved thought evoking questions like the one he had just asked. recently, the two have been paired up a lot for missions - youâre still on the fence on whether it's a good or bad thing, but youâre leaning more towards the former. you only gave a thoughtful hum as you spooned another scoop of ice cream into your mouth.
kafka had grown bored of the dresses and shoes and wanted to get something to eat. now here you were, outside a quaint little ice cream shop as blade orders for everyone - silver wolf and firefly hiding behind the man like two kids.Â
sunday was sitting in front of you, laughing silently after catching a glimpse of the two tables across from you being filled with your shopping bags. you laughed as well and when your eyes met his, sunday quickly averted his gaze towards his own cold treat.
âdo i ever miss the person i was before i joinedâŠâ you echo his question. âsometimes, in the middle of the night whenever iâm feeling a bit too sentimental, i do.â a fond expression was probably present on your face as sunday hummed in acknowledgement. âi miss the comfort of my bed as i scrolled endlessly on my phone. or how a certain little creature in red would bring me tea and biscuits when i let time pass in my little workshop. i miss them every chance i get.â
yes, every chance you get, you reminisce over your past life. missing your fatherâs quick temper, your brotherâs indifference, your motherâs absence; you missed them all, despite all their flaws and the bitterness that swam in your heart. and of course, how could you ever forget your little escapades in different planets with a seasoned adventurer and his vast knowledge of animation and travel or the little waddling of a conductor as they scold you nearly not making it back. you missed them all very dearly.
âwhat about you, mr. sunday? do you miss penacony?â
âwould it be wrong of me⊠if i said noâŠ?â
admittedly, that was the exact opposite of what you thought his answer would be.
the six of you were now in the car with you and blade driving (firefly suggested you all take two cars so you wonât have to be squeezed together in one). silver wolf was fast asleep at the back seat, using the many shopping bags as her makeshift pillows. you and sunday sat at the front, keeping a close eye on bladeâs red car in front of you as you pondered what you would say next.
âi donât think thatâs the whole truth, but itâs not an entire lie either.â was your only response. from the corner of your eye, you see sunday take off his gloves and lay them on his lap. âwould you like to talk about it, mr. sunday? iâm quite the exceptional listener you know.â
sunday laughed at your jesting and that made the breath you were unconsciously holding escape you.Â
âpenacony, as beautiful as it was,â he fiddles with his fingers as his wings came to cover half his face - a habit you picked up on whenever he started to open up. âit was simply too much for me.â
staying silent and when sunday looked at you, you simply nod. urging him to continue.
âthe flashy city lights, the ever echoing of upbeat music, to many, penacony is a paradise where nothing could go wrong,â sunday sags in his seat, âbut i often wonder if it ever gets too much for them. even though i have lived my entire life in the land of festivities, i could not bring myself to enjoy the thrill and joy it offered.â
âno matter how many times i bury these feelings of guilt, they always resurface wheneverâŠâ
âwhenever?â you slowly try to coax it out of him. like how a parent would to their child.
âthey always resurface whenever⊠i find myself enjoying your company too much.â you try to hide your shock when you take a right turn. âis it truly alright for me to just leave all of penacony behind? as overwhelming it was, it offered a roof over my head. food on my table. a family.â
soft patters of rain as small droplets of water cascaded down the now slightly fogged up windows of your car. âwould you like my personal opinion on this matter, mr. sunday?â the car skids to a stop as the traffic light glows red. sunday only nodded solemnly. âyou have every right to not miss penacony.â
his gold eyes were furrowed in distraught. gaze boring into the side of your head as the car started moving again. âyes, penacony offered a roof over your head and food on your table, but everyone has that right. even us, stellaron hunters, the most wanted criminals across star systems, have the right to have a home. did penacony ever feel like home to you, mr. sunday?â
âno. not it has not.â sunday replies after a few moments of silence.
âjust because a roof is over your head and food is served on your table doesnât automatically make it a home.â your eyes hardened, grip on the steering wheel tightening ever so slightly. âa home is supposed to make you feel safe, not obligated to repay their so-called âkindnessâ. you donât have to feel guilty for not wanting to come back to the place that had caused you pain.â
âand what of my sister, robin?â he suddenly counters. you knew from little snippets from kafka that robin was a bit of a sensitive topic with him. âam i really allowed to enjoy this new life of mine knowing that sheâs still in the familyâs clutches?â his voice hardened, but at the same time it quivered and broke. âwhat right do i have to this newfound happiness when she could be struggling? for aeonâs sake,â he messily pushes his hair away from his face. you try not to focus on the stray tears that fell from his eyes, âiâm her older brother, her protector. she should be the one here, spending time with you and enjoying the life sheâs always wanted.â
âmiss robin is destined for greatness and a happy life,â stopping at another traffic light, you look over to sunday, âbut so are you. i do not know the pain and turmoil your adoptive father has made you go through, but you will never be free if you keep holding on to the past.â
âi donât think being a stellaron hunter and a wanted criminal is what you call greatness.â sunday jokes with a low chuckle making you roll your eyes.
you trained your sight on the road again. âitâs not easy to break out of whatever gopher wood has taught you,â the way you spat his adoptive fatherâs name with such venom made sunday wonder if you had personally met him. âbut if, theoretically, we had offered you to join us earlier and to sneak you out of penacony, miss robin would be the first person to urge you to take that chance. you are her older brother yes, and it's often the oldestâs job to protect the younger,â you pull up your car in the parking lot as blade, kafka, and firefly started taking the shopping bags out of the car. âbut she is still your sister that wants whatâs best for you, even if it means leaving penacony behind.â
the sight of blade, a man with a harsh exterior and few words, silently carry silver wolf with such care will always stir something inside of sunday. or how kafka would happily chat with firefly over the new clothes they got on todayâs shopping list, promising to do a haul tomorrow morning after the older woman cooks everyone breakfast. but if there was something that pulled at his heart the most, it would be you.Â
you who kindly respected his space and unwillingness to talk or socialize with the other hunters when he had been first recruited. the same you who had made him the metal wings that was now attached to his lower back - created with so much care and attentiveness sunday felt unworthy of it. you who would always be the first one to look for him whenever you were going out and extending a hand for him to take.
âeveryone deserves to be happy,â you say beside him as you drop him off at the door to his room. âand that includes you, mr. sunday.â
sunday had always been treated as someone who was above everything else, that was the first thing he was taught after all. he was destined for greatness, the key to the revival of his dead aeon. so he never truly knew how to act when someone treated him as an equal. someone neither above or below anyone.
âiâm not very good with words,â sunday scoffs, thinking otherwise. âso i often convey my sincerity and comfort through actions.â
sunday feels your hand slither to the back of his neck as you slowly pull him down to your height. forcing his beating heart to still when he looks into your eyes that swam with understanding and fondness when you press both of your foreheads together.
âyou can enjoy your time here, with us. youâre allowed to let go of the past and miss your sister.â your thumb rubs soothing circles on his nape, sunday feels the hairs on his arms rise. âand if you still think otherwise, then thatâs also fine. breaking free from the shackles of your past isnât easy, but you shouldnât give up.â sunday feels the way your words leave a warm ticklish feeling on his lips, he had to fight the urge to lean into your space even more. âwe want you to be happy, we want you to be here with us. so weâll teach you how to let go. until you can do it yourself.â
sunday has seen you do this to others; after you patch up blade after a nasty fight, when you welcome kafka home, when silver wolf comes to you after a nightmare and when firefly bares her heart out to you. he finally understands why the others stuck to you closely, they showed their appreciation for you in forms of physical affections.Â
involuntarily, his arms snakes around your waist, pulling you impossibly closer he feels you may decipher the way his heart beats your name. âmay we stay like this for a while?â you only hum slowly when he lays his head on your shoulder. letting your comfort wash away all the guilt and frustration, even if it was just for a moment.
you catch a glimpse of kafka leaning at one of the dark walls with a knowing smile on her lips. rolling your eyes at the older woman, you bid sunday a good night with a small smile. knuckles brushing right under his eyes where phantom tears had fallen. in your mind, you canât help but feel that your little idea of taking him shopping to brighten up his mood was a success.

âââââââ   the challenge for a new king  ⊠âžâž
⊠ âđ  honkai: star rail   â   mydei  .á        âââŻ
đâ warnings. mentions of blood, ooc-mydei (written before official release)Â Â Â Â â Â Â Â Â notes. mydei kisserhood is infectious and so is the ithaca saga's "the challenge." my favorite mydei kisser sol (@st6rly) this is for you <33
âââ art credits. hoyoverse    â     tags. @lowkeyren @starcharmed @mikashisus @https-sourlimes @dazaisms @powchakko @pneumosia ; if you'd like to be tagged, please fill out the forms on my pinned!!
ౚৠcrown prince of kremnos, mydeimos â your lover from a past life, eternally bound to you and you wouldn't have it any other way.
the clamor of suitors in the palaceâs main hall rings in your ears like a cacophony of arrogant laughter. even in the comforts of your room, as your servants dress you in ceremonial robes â garments reserved for only the eyes of your husband now will lay bare for the hundreds of men waiting for you downstairs â strike a nervous trail of ice on your back.
from the corner of your eyes, you see your council take away the stacks of papers on your table. after all, your duty as a monarch will be stripped away once a king is chosen. you will no longer need to trouble yourself with this kingdomâs affair â it hurts you deeply; the people youâve served since you were a child now bid you farewell without sparing you a second glance.Â
âyour highness,â a gruff voice from your bedroom door called out. âeveryone is waiting for you at the banquet hall. they eagerly await your answer.â
with a sigh, you raise your hand to signal your servants to stop. all of them slowly step away from your figure as you grimace at your reflection. a white girdle wrapping around your frame and decked from head to toe with gold â you truly looked like a prize to be won. you turn on your heels and walk out of the comforts of your room, the high council and servants following you as your head remains low and eyes strained on the marble floor. the intricate swirls of red and gold marble, its presence guiding you the banquet hall, stir a bittersweet ache in your chest, reminding you of the weight of what will transpire today. shouts and whistles of men grow louder and louder, the noise making you tug at the red cloth in your hair. taking a deep breath, you steadied your nerves as the giant doors in front of you opened.
everyone stills like statues of grand heroes as you walk to your throne. your mother and father sit beside you and like any other day after deciding you were of age to marry. you father reminds you sternly about who to choose.
âa king must be courageous; unafraid of the lengths of danger to protect his kingdom.â
âdoes this length of danger include the death of his spouse?â
you donât miss the sudden flash of panic in your fatherâs eyes as you continue to gaze at the massive banquet hall. heart hammering in your chest as one by one, your suitors came to the front to introduce themself. you barely gave them any attention, only prompting you to give a nod of acknowledgement. from the corner of your eye, you see your father whispering to a council member. they both look at you with a hint of agitation but you only shift your gaze in front. at one point, you had grown parch from all their introductions and asked for a servant to bring you a drink. as you sip the wine from your cup as each man grew bolder and bolder. you donât recall them having to witness their introductions this close.Â
irritation flared in you when you notice one of the guards stationed in front of your throne let one suitor approach you closely. if you had not glared at the guard, he would have only stood there, playing ignorant.
âenough,â your voice cut through the hall like a sharp knife. every man in the room â mother, father and council included â looked at you in shock. âiâve had enough of listening to nonsensical chatter. we will settle this engagement the old fashioned way.â
before you can take another step down your throne, you feel your father tug at your arm in a single harsh motion. his eyes were blazing with frustration, searching for any reason why you would do this. in his survey, his eyes eventually settle on the piece of red cloth keeping your hair together before drifting to the band of gold on your right arm, the single blue bead mocking him as it glistened. you feel an onslaught of pride shattering words bubble in his throat but you donât give him the chance to say them.
you dash down to the center table of the hall and take off the cloth hiding a giant spear.Â
âwhoever can wield my husband's old spear, and shoot it through twelve axes cleanly will be the new king, sit on the throne and rule with me as the monarch.â
the hall murmurs in confusion at your challenge. for all they knew, you were as pure as morning dew â unmarried. you tilt your head high, urging anyone to try and wield the heavy weapon. the challenge seemed easy enough on paper, but as the twelve axes were set in place and as you stood on the other end of them, no suitor dared to move from their place.
â[name] you will cease this behavior this instant and call off this challenge!â your fatherâs loud voice echoes in the hall as everyone turns their heads to stare you down. but you proudly stare back, face cold as you watch if anyone tries while your father angrily makes his way to the center table with the spear.
âhow did you get this?!â he asks, turning to look at every staff member and council member present. âwho gave it to you?! do you understand what youâve done, child? youâre asking for a death wish!â
âyou and i know, father, that the person who wields that weapon would not let a single scratch appear on my person.â you proudly exclaim, cradling the band on your arm tenderly.Â
the guards present in the hall slowly circle your figure, weapons glinting in a deadly light as they point the blade to you. the silence following your proclamation was followed by a loud clattering of the spear against the marble floors echoes as your father struggles to stow it away. his frustration and your amusement was palpable â he might have been this kingdomâs most formidable fighter, but he still wasnât a match for your lover. his eyes glare at you as you laugh, the sound so mocking more and more men began to try their luck but no one could even lift it an inch above the ground.
and then, the doors of the hall swings open with a thundering crash.
unconscious bodies of guards fall beneath his feet as his presence commanded the attention of everyone. clad in golden armor and a red tunic, mydeiâs fierce eyes didnât linger for even a second on anyone in the room until they settled on you. a glint of recognition and equal amusement flock his eyes â uncovering the many layers of depth of your history together.
the suitors part like the waves as he makes his way to the fallen spear on the floor. mydei easily lifts the spear in one fluid motion, ripping off the red cloth binding the golden blade. your breath hitches in your throat as memories of a past your family tried so hard to bury come rushing out â images of past battles and sacrifices, side by side you conquered, and a love too strong fate had to intervene.Â
your husband has come to get you.
âi accept this challenge.â his voice is steady and calm, it cuts through every person in the room.Â
you donât move an inch in your spot on the other end of the axes, even as mydei prepared to shoot. gasps ripple through the walls, you remain unafraid of the man you know would find you no matter the distance. your father pales in the distance, ordering the remaining guards to disarm him immediately. he steps forward, blocking his shot, and angrily glares at the prince.
âyou are the reason for [name]âs curse! you were the one to poison my childâs thinking with those relics from the past. they are no longer your lover! begone and never return!â he shouts but with one forceful shove, your father was face to face with the floor.
mydeiâs grip on the spear tightens as he steps past your father, voice an octave lower and seething with rage.
ââpoison?ââ he asks, incredulously. eyes narrowed dangerously at your fatherâs pitiful state on the floor. âis that what you call loyalty that defies death itself? or the truth youâve tried to bury under lies and manipulation?â
he casts a quick glance at you as you chuckle under your breath. a brief moment of tenderness flicker in his gaze, a silent promise renewed.
your father desperately scrambles to his feet, his composure cracking under mydeiâs presence and accusations. murmurs of questions erupts from the suitors. the high council pitifully tries to intervene, calling out to deafened ears, but they are overpowered by the man in red.
mydei shifts his focus back on the axes, ignoring your fatherâs weak protests. he hefts the spear with familiarity, wielding it as if it was as easy as breathing. the room watches with bated breath as he takes aim, you close your eyes and flashes of a younger warrior invades your mind.
his ash stricken arms and face, crying out to you to not leave him. with a small giggle, you oblige and vowed to fate itself, that if you were to ever leave his side, you will accept a punishment even worse than death.Â
mydei throws the spear. as it soars through the air, you hear the axes clamor to the ground one by one by your feet as a strong gust of wind passes the side of your head. when you hear the twelfth axe fall to the ground, you open your eyes to the sound of gasps and cries of astonishment.
mydei strides in confidence, kicking past every axe cut in half, his gaze is locked on yours. with each step, youâre reminded of your past with him. the red scarf gifted on your birthday to survive against the cold, a golden band with a singular bead of blue he crafted with his bare hands, and the experience honed after years of training with him. he stops right before you and drops to one knee, one hand to his chest as he plants the spear upright before him.
âyou were always the reckless one between the two of us,â his low chuckle sent shivers down your spine, his gaze holding the weight of promises from past lives. âyou remain to have the final say, my love. will you defy fate with me once more?â
as if to emphasize his words, flashes of the past glimmer in the back of your mind like a newly discovered gem. through bloodshed and sacrifices in vain â every bloody death centered around you â you find small moments of respite. beneath the shade of an olive tree, you and mydei find a moment of solace, resting side by side as the weight of your vow comes crashing down.
âyou are a careless monarch,â he grumbles, ruffling the blonde hair youâve kept neat despite the chaos. he sighs, chest heaving as he breathes and looks at you almost forlornly. âyouâve cursed yourself for eternity with me.â
âhow is that a curse?â you rebut with a smile. you tear your eyes from him and suddenly the landscape darkens. stone by stone, a palace is built around the olive tree you both cherished. from your side, mydei stands. his helm in hand, his hands and voice commanding as more and more servants appear before you, while you sat idly by the treeâs base. a smile â soft and adoring â as mydei tries to hide the flush of his cheeks.
he turns his head slightly to ask, âan eternity with me⊠do you not find that revolting?â
you chuckle, your voice carrying a warmth that contrasts the night sky thatâs making its presence known. âif it were eternity with anyone else, i would agree,â you reply, fingers brushing mindlessly at the bark of the olive tree. âmy dear mydei, with you, it is a gift i would always ask for.â
he stills, movement halting with time as the palace is engulfed in flames. his gaze once sharp now softens as he approaches you, âyou say that now,â he murmurs, kneeling before you. âbut will you feel the same when the weight of eternity and fate crush you? when all but me begins to fade, and only we remain, will you still call the love that binds us a blessing?â
you cradle his face in your hand relish how he melts in your palm. even with the distant clamor of death and destruction, his eyes remained glued to you. gently, your fingers begin to brush against his cheek as he sighs in contentment. âlove will always be a blessing for us. i will never regret loving you, mydei. not even for a single moment. through all the bloodshed, sacrifices, and lifetime⊠my heart has never wavered.â
mydei closes his eyes, âyou have always been braver than i. always the first to shift the burden of us on your shoulders, even if doubts claws at you.â
âand i have you to thank for always being my reason,â you counter. âto fight, to endure, to hope. even in another life, i will always find my way back to you â or find a way for you to find me.â
the vision begins to fade, the palace halls taking life of its own, stretching far beyond the olive tree that remains at its heart â a symbol of your eternal love. even as the present rushes back, you find yourself clutching mydeiâs hand, the warmth of his palm grounding you.
âand if i must be cursed,â your whisper, a loving smile gracing your lips. âthen let it always be with you and no one else.â

đč the nameless king, phainon â the chrysos heir was earnest in his ways of showing affections, you on the other hand prefer more subtleâmagicalâways to show it.

to say phainon was enamored with you would be an understatementâhe was head over heels for you.Â
great hero of the chrysos heir, losing all his valor and might the moment he sees you walk in the room with a pretty smile and a few scrolls from the archive. the subject of his yearningâyou draw his attention faster than any moth to a flame.
it was almost laughable at how easily he melts at your presence actually. much to mydeiâs distraught, he's always the first to witness the snow-hairedâs helpless pining; knees buckling and threatening to give out when you compliment his form during sparring sessions, words tumbling and stuttering like a vehement storm crashing against a window, and don't even mention the carnelian river that drowns his cheeks paired with a smile that mydei's sure would shatter his cheekbones.
phainon was hopelessly in love with his archivist.
tribios would argue it was cute with the goldweaver quietly chuckling to herself, hell, even castorice would crack a small knowing smile every now and then. all of phainonâs poor attempts at wooing you always left mydei with a drowning feeling of embarrassment. so many unsent letters filled with poorly written verses, gifts ranging from random to expensive shipped to your doorstep, and not to mention the way he follows you around like a lost puppy when heâs supposed to be working. mydei has had enough.
âoh for the love of titans,â mydei gruffly said, a scowl tugging at his lips as she crossed his arms over his chest.
there sat the man in question, a crooked smile on his lips as he tried to pathetically hide the many pieces of parchment in his room.
âmydei, my friend! what brings you here?â phainon greeted, voice still the same tone when they normally talked but there was a slight shake to it. heâs been caught red-handedâvulnerable in the presence of your love. and he was also neglecting his duties.
mydei only raised a brow and slowly walked into the room. as phainon was busy scrambling and spewing weak excuses, the blonde haired warrior only rolled his eyes and rounded his table.
âwait mydei, don't!â
but it was too late. mydei had already picked up the opened envelope and pulled out the neatly folded letter with a nimble grip (he may be tired of phainon's puppy love, but he was no idiot to handle his things without care).Â
mydei feels his lips twitch into a teasing smirk, âwell, well, well, who knew you'd have the guts to actually send something so⊠scandalous.â
the snowy hero flushed to the tips of his ears and quickly snatched the letter from his hands. tucking it inside his coat and coughing into his fist, he avoids the pair of gold eyes dissecting him.
âokay, it may look bad butââ
âwhy would you start with âto my beloved star whom i look for every nightâ? what are you, a child?â
âBUT!âÂ
noticing his outburst, the color on phainon's cheeks deepened in shade. he cleared his throat and adjusted his clothing. tugging his sleeves lower, smoothing out the non-existent creases in his coat, and tugging at the collar at his throat. he suddenly feels too hot in this room.
âehem,â he starts, âi assure you, it's nothing scandalous. iâm just⊠following a routine! yes, a routine.â
mydei raised a brow in questionâhe did not believe phainon's excuse.
with a sigh, his shoulder slumps like a child's. dropping to his chair, he covered his face with his hands and mumbled a string of words mydei didn't catch.
one final click of mydei's tongue, he turned around and made his way to the door. âyes, a routine. of course. it's only natural for you to send love letters to someone who's not even yours. absolutely normal. meeting is at twenty.â
phainon could only muster a small nod and let the door magically close as mydei left. when he's sure mydei was gone, he quietly took out the letter from his coat and quietly threw it in the small pile of unsent letters in the corner of his messy room.
he just sat there, motionless and contemplating, for a while before he picked up a sealed envelope. a seal with an eight pointed star greeted him and phainon is sent to the moon when he sees your name written on the back. you've been using the wax seal he got you, which is good.
âTo my dearest, hero.â
four words in and phainon has already stopped reading to quietly collect his bearings. the contents were nothing astonishingâa simple report on your findings with tribios on the mission he sent you. but what he looks for the most is the hidden messages in your seemingly formal message.
phainon does not attend the meeting. instead he waits for dusk to arrive and stars glitter in the sky. he stood up from his chair and lounged by his balcony. letter in hand and watched the letters and words reform itself right before his eyes.Â
magical. you're abilities were taken straight out of a fairytale he could've read as a child.
âTo my other half, whom I left at home.â
he smiled. so brightly he started to consider that maybe mydei was right about his cheekbones shattering.
for the night, he abandoned his duties as a chrysos heir to indulge in your love. you weren't as open to your affections to the public as him, but this? this was your own way of flirting with him.
âTo my other half.â
âMy beloved, hero.â
âMy dearest, Phainon.â
âTo whom I've buried my heart to.â
every salutation, punctuation, and sentence reformed to show your love, it sends phainon into a giddy fit. in your presence, he's taken back to the times where he would waste gazing at you longing from the palace sparring grounds.
âTo the hero who's captured my heart.â
âMy star, how I miss your presence.â
the way your cheeks would flush whenever he caught your stare, scramble to pick up the papers flying out of your hands when you bumped into each other, and when you smiled so brightly when he showed up to the archives with a bouquet and a poorly written letter.
âMy heart.â
âMy deliverance.â
you were shy with your affection, but they were undying.

â 1:43 coincidences.

pairing: kinich x gn!reader
premise: kinich wasn't one to indulge in the creative waters of writing or english. but for a chance to know you, he'd willing jump into the ocean.
â warnings: none
â author's note: this was supposed to be for his birthday but i got lazy half way through so yeah. this is also a part 2 of 11:11 wishes and i highly recommend you read this one first!! art credits to @.n249g on twt. | 2.3k words.

englishâwriting class to be specificâwas one of kinichâs least favorite subjects in school. not to say that he didnât appreciate books and stories, he just simply preferred the more straightforward subjects like p.e. and math. he never really could wrap his head around the ideas of using so many literary devices to make a statement sound flowery. why canât authorâs simply say that the sky was blue or that the sun has set? kinich, more often than not, found them all unnecessary.
until you, that is.
kinich met you by coincidence during one of his basketball practices. a loud shout of his name from the stands and an enthusiastic mualani made him cringe internally as his teammates wiggle their eyebrows. with a roll of his eyes, kinich drops his water bottle on the benches and readied himself for whatever mualani wanted to do. his head curiously tilted to the side when he caught sight of you.Â
you and mualani were the same height, you held her bag in your arms as you scroll through your phone. kinich must have stared a bit too hard. you looked, meeting his eyes with a curious but embarrassed gaze. suddenly all the metaphorical pieces of literature he once found exasperating had an entirely new meaning as you flashed him an embarrassed smile. he found himself captivatedâunable to look away even when mualani came to obscure his view of you. with a heavy breath, he tried his best to keep his attention on her words, but he ended up missing the way your lips turned upward and eyes turn into small crescents.Â
it wouldâve been cute, dare he say romantic, with the way you kept stealing glances at him. kinich felt a certain itch at the back of his mind to at least smile back, but he never got the chance to. not when a stray basketball flies past his head and nearly hit you all the way from the stands.
âhey! watch it!â mualani shouts. hands gripping the metal bars tightly, ready to jump down and pick a fight with the player who had nearly hit you.Â
kinich stood there, baffled and perplexed about you. he found your way of tugging at mualaniâs arm amusing as she yells and points an accusing finger at ororon. you shake your head with a sigh and offer him an apologetic smile when he should be the one doing that. with his own heavy sigh, kinich turned around and crossed his arms, a scolding look in his eyes as everyone avoided his gaze.Â
âkinich you better put your team in place or iâll do it myself!â the volleyball captain in the stands yelled with an angry huff. she copied kinichâs pose and narrowed down her eyes but she simply looked like an angry kitten.
kinichâs ears picked up on your airy giggle and felt the hairs on his arms rise. karma must be coming back to bite him in the ass because now, at this very moment, he wished heâd paid enough attention in english class to find a way to describe the way you captured him with just one glance.
much his teacherâs surprise, kinich finally began to participate in english class. he would raise his hands to answer questions and when called, heâd try to answer even if he struggled. all of his classmates concluded something must have happenedâyou canât really blame them for being curious, after all, kinich only took interest in very few things.Â
he began to frequent the local bookstore too. drifting from one aisle to another, eyes skimming over the spines of the books he once took for granted. ironically, he found himself indulging in a newfound fascination with how words worked. a certain wish deep in the columns of his chest to find a way to describe you in the same way. thatâs when kinich ceased all his skimming. ever since that day, heâs been thinking about you, more often than he should.
he knew you and mualani were closeâattached to the hip with the way you grew up together. the council president would often brag about your achievements as if they were her own during breaks from meetings. mualani always had something to say about youâall ranging from nice, embarrassing, and intriguing. you also ate lunch together. kinich would always notice how mualani packs extra lunch and when the bell rings, youâre always outside the classroom. bag slinged over your shoulder, a book under your arms as you entertained yourself with your phone.Â
during all of these times, kinichâs eyes will always slide over to your figure. trying to capture your mystique on paper with his rookie capabilities in writing. and for the second time, he must have stared too much because you ended up catching his stare. your eyes glossed over the opened book on his desk, the many sticky notes with messy notes, pens and highlighters matching the book cover, and how he keeps tapping his pen on his notebook. his fingerâs twitched, heart lurching forward into your arms when your eyes twinkled with familiarity of his actions.
he was doing an activity for english class. and thatâs when it all clicked into place.Â
you flash him a smile as mualani tangled your arms together and tugged you to the direction of the cafeteria. no wonder your laugh sounded so familiar, it was the same sound he heard during english when he paid attention to everything but the lesson. the book under your arms had the same colored annotations as his and even the blue bracelet on your wrist looked familiar. you were the student sitting a few seats back from him.Â
âwhat a coincidence,â he murmurs, shifting his attention back to the activity due tomorrow. but his mind betrayed him for the second time because instead of writing down his interpretations in the notebook, the word âbeautifulâ was instead jotted down. and kinich isnât talking about the book.
dismissal hours and kinich did not mix well. while others packed their things to go home, he stayed behind to work with the council on the bulletin board. with a thud, he dropped to the floors as the others laugh. mualani ruffled his hair and promised theyâll be quick today, which he highly doubts with the way there was paint on her face and poorly hidden paper planes made out of spare papers. he shook his head in amusement and started getting to work.
by the time the clock hit 5, everyone had bid their farewells and kinich was left alone boarding the last bus of the day. he mindlessly paid the bus fare and looked for any available seats. the grip on his school bag tightened ever so slightly when he caught sight of a familiar mop of hair and blue bracelet in one of the seats. like a sailor being captured with a sirenâs song, kinich made his way to you and cleared his throat.
you look up at him with the sun in your eyes. and he wonders if youâre aware of them. âis this seat taken?â a beat of silence passed before he caught the way your eyes widened and shook your head no. kinich swore he could hear the drumming of his heart as the sun sets behind you, casting a golden glow that makes you even more captivating.
âoh no, no! not at all,â you stammer out with a crooked smile. kinich nods in thanks and sits down. this must be the awkward presence of a blooming crush the books heâs read were talking about. he wanted to bury his head in his hand in sheer embarrassment. of course he concludes he had a crush on you as youâre sitting next to him. of course he just had to be awkward as you steal glances at him every now and then, trying to think of a way to strike up a conversation.
âare you done?â you ask and kinich has never reacted to a sound so fast in his life. âwith the book review i mean.â another smile, another reason for kinichâs heart to beat. he cleared his throat and looked away, muttering a soft yes under his breath. you donât speak another word after that and kinich curses mualani for sleeping over at a friendâs house today.Â
now, kinich wasnât one to abuse his position as a council member nor did he ask teacherâs for favorsâbut thereâs a first for everything. with a knowing mualani behind him, he takes a shaky breath in and knocks on the faculty door to excuse his english teacher to ask to be partnered with you.
it was such a bizarre and surreal feeling. kinich was simply about to go to bed after basketball practice when mualani had decided to blow up his phone with messages and screenshots. conversations with you filled with all capital messages, numerous exclamation marks, and sobbing emojis he began to associate with you began to fill his mind as his heart started to expand.Â
â I WISH HEâD BE MY PARTNER FOR THE BIOGRAPHY PROJECT đ đâ
kinich never paid any attention to the project despite having more interest in classâhe didnât have any particular interest in anyone, except you. so for you to wish to have him as the subject of your written creativity, how could kinich resist? and there wasnât any difficulty in convincing your teacher too. a poorly executed excuse of maybe having your creativity rubbing off on him was all it took for the two of you to be paired up.
when he leaves the faculty, mualani greets him with a knowing smirk, her hands behind her back as the two quietly make their way back to the never ending task that is the bulletin board. the girl made sure not to point out the excited glint in his eyes and how a smile threatened to spill from his lips when you passed by and waved at her.
âyouâre such a goner,â mualani teased with a shake of her head. she only stuck out her tongue at him when kinich tried to kick her shin. but he didnât try to deny anything, all he could think about what kind of questions heâll ask you in the span of a month.
âblue. you were wearing a blue bracelet when we first met and i really liked it.â
âandâ
âit suits youâ
âis that a weird thing to say?â
it was embarrassing how quickly kinich closed his phone and put it on silent mode. that was something so unlike him to sayâeven his punctuations and spacing of messages felt out of place. but could you blame him? that damn blue bracelet complimented the tone of your skin, how light seemed to bounce off it and become a magnetâbegging for him to hold.Â
and was it wrong of him to assume you liked green because of him? he noticed earlier this week that your gaze lingered longer whenever he wore his jersey jacket and this one hoodie xilonen gifted him. âthe color reminded me of a calming walk in the forest,â you had said when he sat down in front of you as he asked why you were staring (leaving out the part of the giddy feeling heâs captured your undivided attention with just a piece of clothing. he then wonders what youâd look like if you were the one to wear it.)
could you give his poor heart a break? after all you nearly injuring yourself trying to make it to class wasnât on his agenda for the day (but heâll never admit how nice it felt for you to cling to him). he never meant for your fingers to brush as you picked up the papers on the floor, nor did he mean to look away so quicklyâmissing the way your cheeks turned pink.
kinichâs gaze flickered over to that blue bracelet again as you checked your appearance on your phone, then it moved to your bag, and like a sailor following the north star, he took it from your back and said, âletâs go to class.â his voice was quietâdare he think shyâas he covered half of his face with a curled fist.Â
you denied his offer to bail you out of a lecture from your teacher and he promptly agrees. but kinich knows, deep down in the ocean of his heart that you wonât get in trouble when heâs by your side. maybe it was the adrenalineâor maybe just youâhe loved to chase. he took steps and steps in your direction to pluck a stray leaf stuck in your hair. he doesnât miss the whiff of your perfumeâwoody with hints of citrus and some cinnamon in the mix.
you smell like sunshine and the partner he wants for the rest of his life.
after the biography project, kinich finds himself sitting with you in a park after classes got canceled. you asked him to push you on the swing set and he complied without much of a fight.Â
âi wish youâd be my partner for this project, and wouldnât you know, it actually happened.â
âoh, i know.â
kinich laughs, something he does more with you, at your dumbfounded expression. the realization that mualani had snitched on you and that he went out of his way to make sure it happened like you wished for sent your cheeks ablaze. kinich loved the sight of you under the afternoon sun as he goes in front of you, on one knee like those cheesy prince charmings in stories you always gushed about.
âbe my partner for life, that was my 11:11 wish today.â
if you were to ask kinich what his favorite season was, he would answer summer within a heartbeat. summer was the season when you met, the colors of the sun bathing you in all his favorite colors as you cheered him on from the stands during basketball matches with his name on your back. the many ice cream runs where you both complain about the heat, or when you drop by the council room to try and cool off because the ac is stronger. summer had you in it, but kinich wouldnât mind experiencing the other seasons with you too.

â empty souls do not breathe, they wait.

pairing: kinich x gn!reader
premise: ajaw has always thought that after kinich's death, all will eventually bow to him as their new king. what he didn't expect was to grapple with his host's loneliness and find the reason why he sought your presence during nights that grow too cold.
â warnings: slight angst if you squint
â author's note: ajaw holds a very special place in my heart so deserves to be the main character of this fic. and after almost 24 hours of having no electricity, it'll finally leave the basement. this is heavily inspired by this comic on twt so please go give it a read! art credits to @.n249 on twt. | 2.5k words.

there was something wrong with kinich. mavuikaâs eyes scanned over the wounds on the poor boyâs body and the blood dripping from his forehead. long gone was his usual bandana and golden rimmed eyes were now tainted with a strange red.Â
this man is not kinich.
âso kinich has fallen, too,â her voice sullen, eyes barely able to look at the husk of one of her heroes. though her stance is not tense, it certainly wasnât relaxed either. âkinichâ followed her movements carefullyâthe way her hands twitched towards her claymore, her eyes he could not read, and the unmistakable tone of her voice. the pyro archon was disappointed.
âi, too, would be disappointed if you didnât notice, archon.â kinich dipped his head low and let out a bone chilling laugh that scratched his throat the wrong way. blood stained glove came to push his hair back as mavuika stares at the eyes that did not belong to the dendro user of the scions of canopy.Â
âit was a shame for that brat to die, but oh well,â a twisted grin tugged at his lips as mavuikaâs face remained passive. âit is i! the almighty dragon lord, kâuhul ajaw!â
he takes a deep breath before letting his hostâs arms fall to his side. âper our agreement, i will stand in and make kinich the greatest hero for all of natlan to see!â
âand would you be satisfied with that?â
ajawâs gaze hardened as his lips tugged into a deep frown. the pyro archonâs eyes now held a fervor brighter than any hope this entity of chaos has ever seen. was she still hoping that kinich would miraculously survive?
âare you implying that not even celestia is celebrating my return? their gift is now miââ
âthe gift you claim for yourself does not respond to you,â ajaw flinches back, eyes zeroing into the vision of his person as his fists shook in rage. âdreams will die if their master has fallen. thereâs more to the contract between the two of you than you think.â
ajaw sees red. teeth snarling into a disgusting scowl as he readied kinichâs weaponâignoring the way this too did not answer his call for blood. âare you mocking me, archon?â
much to the dragonâs surprise, the woman laughs. she laughs. at him? heâll never know because heâs already zipping away from the scene.Â
âthis is merely a trial, a simple waiting game.âÂ
âwhy the hell am i using that servantâs party tricks!â ajaw screams as he lands in the far distance. heâs been using kinichâs grapple hook to come to and fro natlan these days as his mind flies back to this boyâs archon and her infuriating claims. âbwah! forget it, i have other things to deal with likeââ
âkinich?â
like you.
the person from kinichâs life that heâs persistently pined over for years on endâajaw even thinks kinich does it unintentionally, the boy was missing a few screws in the emotional department after all.
ajaw doesnât answer back. he just blankly stares how your face is drained of its color. the way your fist grips at your chest like you're about to rip your heart out and the shakyâafraidâsmile you flash him as you come to sit beside him.
you kept your distanceânormally youâd sit so close your fingers would slightly entangle with kinichâs. ajaw observes you from the corner of his eyes before looking at natlan in the distance. back in his pixelated prison form, he could barely see natlan as a whole, just bits and pieces as he focused his energy to disturb and plan kinichâs untimely death.
âwhat are you doing here?âÂ
how strange, ajaw didnât mean to voice that question out in the open. especially with the way you look at him as if your world had crumbled to dust, leaving no trace of your home to pick up. something tugs at ajaw after your blank answer. the great almighty dragon lords do not feel, they wreak havoc, instill control, so why? why was this heart beating in such a melancholic rhythm?
âletâs go,â he says as he slowly comes to a stand, trying to mimic kinichâs attitude and actions towards you to the best of his abilities. you look at him, tears threatening to spill, yet you still smile and take his outstretched arm. ajaw doesnât voice how you immediately drop his hand when you standâyou always hold kinich like your final lifeline, so why are you letting go?
ajaw understands, he simply wonât accept this fact.
you loved kinich, not ajaw.
you wanted kinich, but you still treated ajaw with the same treatment.
you treat his wounds with care, apologizing whenever he winces and flinches, pressing soft kisses to the calluses of his hands and his forehead. you let him listen to your beating heart that drummed the same melancholic melody and wipe away at the tears he never acknowledges whenever the figure of kinichâs dismantled body haunts him at night.Â
you acted as if you loved him and ajaw canât live with this anymore.
so he runs awayâpunishes himself into confinement until you wonât be able to follow him. and then he thinks. sitting silently on a patch of grass as the sun slowly fades into another dreadful night. now that heâs left alone to grapple with all the uncontained emotions kinich himself couldnât answer, ajaw finds himself at a loss.
âhey kinich,â he whispers to the wind, a bare hand filled with scars and scratchesâfree from the gloves that didnât fit himâtug at the fabric of his shirt, right above his heart. âhave you always been this lonely?â
ajaw hugs his knees, hand grabbing at his hair harshlyâthis body did not belong to him, he does not deserve your kindness or love. he wonât admit it, but now under the scrutiny or judgment of no one, ajaw comes to finally admit of his stretched jealousy for you and kinich. how come this insolent servant of him had someone who deeply cared about him despite his attitude? someone who was born to accompany him through thick and thin, to infuriate and fret over but still share whatever he or you could share with one another. neither of you left each other, and ajaw wanted that.
will ajaw have to live his life like this? chasing after the shadows of your relationship with kinich until his legs finally gave out?Â
âugh! i hate you kinich!â he screams into the wind as they howl back.
âdonât say that, ajaw,â his world stills and the already chilly breeze turned colder. there you were, under the light of a fading sun with a small smile on your lips. âyouâll hurt kinchâs feelings.â
he scoffs. grip tightening as he buries his head on his arms. âthen he can stay dead if he canât handle some words from me! my servant,â his voice quivers slightly. his breathing shakes and turns shallow as you step towards him. âdonât come near me!â
you take one step, then two, then youâre sprinting to ajaw before he could run away for a second time. you cradle his head to your chest as you let his iron grip bruise your arms and silent tears be soaked in your heart.Â
âmy kinich would not be offended by me!â
âi know he wonât,â you say in a whisper, hand rubbing circles to his back and ajaw finally comes to understand why kinich always sought you out each night when his past comes to haunt him. you kept his fears at bay with your overwhelming love for him. ajaw wonders if thereâs also some love from you reserved for him.Â
the following nights, ajaw spends his time in your arms as you tell him stories from your childhood. how kinich had saved you from a safety malfunction when you went bungee jumping, the kinds of flowers you press into your journal, and the many photos from your family in different nations.
âdo you not miss them, human?â ajaw asks, another photo from your mother as she stands in front of a quaint flower shop in fontaine. you only smile and tuck away another album under your bed. the sight of ajaw curiously sifting through your photosâfrom family, friends, and kinichâmakes something swell in your chest. it bloats and bloats until youâre sure it can hold all of natlan with ease.
âi do,â you reply, sitting by the edge of your bed and looking at the dates written behind each photo. âbut at least they send me things so i know theyâre doing well.â
ajaw frowns in contemplation. âwill they come home?â
will kinich come home?
you donât voice out the question thatâs floating in ajawâs mind and just smile. watching the flame from the small lamp on your bedside table flicker, your reflection staring right back at you as you meet ajawâs gaze.Â
âthey will, we just wait.âÂ
ajaw frowns. âwaiting means to waste your efforts to hope for a miracle.â
despite his harshness and pessimism, you chuckle. gathering all the stray photos, you put them back neatly in the album. as you make your way to the window to close the window, you turn back to ajaw. âan empty soul does not breathe, it waits. youâre waiting, too, ajaw.â
âi am not waiting for that vermin!â he protests with a huff. you laugh as he falls back on your bed, both hands behind his head as he stares at your bedroom ceilings. a contemplative expression falls on his face as the furrow of his brows from embarrassment finally eases. âis he even still alive?â
you hum as you lay beside him. your eyes gaze at the still blazing vision on his pants and close your eyes. âa personâs vision is their ambition. they die out when it's been fulfilled or when its master passes,â ajaw looks at you with storm clouds in his eyes but you shift in your position and gently close them with your hands. âso long as kinich dreams, heâll still live. heâs not the type to leave business unfinished.â
tonight ajaw dreamsâhe hopes that your belief turns out to be true. in the blanket of night heâs grown to be afraid of, he sees you and kinich. but strangely enough, he sees himself in between you twoânot as an obstacle, but as a part of your happiness. ajaw finds himself really liking this dream.Â
the night kingdom, like its name suggests, is a perpetually cold and dark landscape with only the wayob in front of him casting a faint light. small engravings of his ancient name glows in a light purple as he gazes at his hazy body. surprisingly enough, his bandana still stayed securely on his head.Â
âseems like iâm still under the wayobâs protection,â he says to no one in particular as echoes about a flame burning bright eases his worries. âif iâm still here then surely we must have won.â
kinich was about to turn and walk awayâto where? heâs not quite sure. as he takes a step after another, the wayobâthe original bearer of his ancient nameâspeaks to him in a voice he can only describe as all knowing; omniscient like his archon.
âyou seem troubled, âmalipoâ kinich,â it said and this makes kinich stop in his tracks. âdo you not trust your little companion to bring you victory?â
kinich doesnât answer immediately. he takes his time to weigh out the answers he could reply with. âtrust is a strong word. weâre only bound by a contract after all. iâm simply weighing the chances of my gamble.â
the wayob chuckles, deep and fatherly. kinich felt his shoulders start to relax a little more as the wayob continued to speak to him. âbearers of the âmalipoâ name are often accompanied by saurian companions through thick and thin. some, if not all, of them had an unbreakable bond between them.â
âso iâve heard,â kinich says, arms crossing over his chest as he questions, âbut a lot of people have questioned your judgment because of it.â
kinich hears a chuckle again as he hears something akin to glass breaking in the distance.Â
âiâm well aware, âmalipoâ kinich. which is why iâm glad,â when kinich looks up to the dark sky, hundreds of shattered fragments rain down on him but he doesnât shield himself. he feels his heart beat a little faster when he catches sight of his bodyâlacking his bandana and glovesâland a few feet away from him.
âmy judgment was proven right, once again.â
âwaitââ but the wayob had lost its glow. kinich doesnât get the chance to dwell on it further as his own body possessed by a small dragon is grabbing him by the shoulders and screaming at his face.
âconsider yourself lucky that i see some value in you âmalipoâ kinich!â the dragon shouts as he raises his hand, the same hand he always uses to summon ajawâs power before being blinded by a green glow. âconsider this an investment! so you better bring in some profit or iâm taking your beloved as hostage!â
a persistent series of knocks on your front door rudely awakens you from your slumber. grumpily leaving your bed, you try to rub the sleep out of your eyes as you prepare yourself to berate whoever is at your door at this ungodly hour.
âwhat is itââ
âyou win this time, human!â a small dragon screams at you. you blink a few times as you hold out both your hands for ajaw to land on as he huffs and obliges. âiâve fulfilled my end of the deal, so you better keep yours!â
âplease donât tell me you actually made a deal with himâŠâ when you look up, you feel tears threaten to spill from your eyes again. kinich stands there, a sheepish hand rubbing the back of his neck as he looks at you in distress. you let ajaw go and let your hands drift to kinichâs face, dragging them under his eyes and tracing over his lips as a ghost of a smile starts to form.
you chuckle in disbelief. âyeah, maybe i have.â
âi hope you know the consequences of your decision,â you sneak a peek at ajaw who has his little pixel arms crossed over his chest. you turn back to kinich, a smile on your lips as you tug him inside your not so empty home. âyouâll just have to wait and see.â
ajaw quietly watches as you make kinich some food, a homely ambience blankets the house as you and kinich catch up. heâll never openly admit it, but heâs glad you agreed to his deal. he feels kinichâs eyes follow him like a hawk as he sits himself down on your shoulder. you offer him a spoon of food but he only huffs in decline.Â
youâre waiting has paid off, though ajaw will never verbally admit. the other half of both your souls has come home and your statement was proven right: ajawâs soulâas well as yoursâwill always wait for kinich to come home.
and kinich smiles, because like ajaw, heâll never verbally admit how heâs been waiting for him to save him from the night kingdom all this time.

â a reason. ft aventurine
â warnings: slight cursing and violence and spoilers for the new hsr quest
â author's note: this is very long and very much a giant word vomit. first work in hsr is aventurine, i fear favoritism is real.
âeverything happens for a reason.â
aventurine has never felt so sick and tired of that phrase. something about it makes his fists clench from beneath the table and stomach flip and twist uncomfortably from within.
if everything happens for a reason, then what was the reason behind his clanâs massacre? what was the reason for the stirring in his guts whenever he looked in the mirror? what was the reason behind all of his fortune now turned to misfortune?
aventurine hated not knowing the reason.
âand this pretty thing,â jade motioned towards you by her side. standing motionless, back straight and all. âis [name]. be sure to play nice, aventurine.â
what was the reason behind your new recruitment? better yet, why were you placed as his new assistant? the last time aventurine checked, he was doing perfectly fine. steadily climbing up his rank with his risky gambles and bargaining skills. he couldn't wrap his head around it so he just sighed and accepted it.
âthank you for always looking after me, jade.â his voice carried evident sarcasm but the woman only smiled and pushed you towards his direction. he had to physically stop himself from recoiling from the action and gave you a smile.
âit's a pleasure to meet you, [name].â he held his hand out for you to take. you were hesitating, aventurine noticed. but after a few seconds you slowly slid your hand into his and gave it a firm shake. âthe pleasure is all mine, mr. aventurine.â
the blonde man held onto your hand for a moment longer before slipping it away and tucking it behind his back. he surveyed your form making you want to squirm under such a gaze, and he noticed.
âlet's be good friends.â
â
working with aventurine was strange, not that you didn't expect it. you spent the past six months running around the IPC from one office to another carrying mountains of papers and constantly picking up calls from the communication device in your ear. other times, you'll be out and about trailing aventurine like a lost duckling when you need to accompany him to missions that require him to be physically present.
honestly, working for the stoneheart will eventually give you an early death from a heart attack. not only is his risky gambling habits very concerning, his way of speaking wasn't exactly everyone's cup of tea. more often than not youâre needed to play as a peacemaker, the middle ground of negotiations to prevent any physical fights from starting.
but it wasn't as bad as you'd assume. you clock in around 9 in the morning and clock out at 5 in the afternoon. sometimes if certain tasks require you for overtime, you'll clock out at around 8 or 9 at night max. all the work aventurine assigns to you aren't all that difficult to handle as well. just simple reports that need to be proofread so he won't have to read over them multiple times, scheduling interviews, picking up calls and informing him of his new missions, and if the situation calls for it, you play as a spy to gather information.
overall aventurine was a good boss.
today was like any other tuesday morning. you clock in just before 9, get your coffee and another cup for your boss, pick up the last reports from the strategic investment department, and then make your way into aventurineâs office to brief him on his schedule.
his office was on the fancier ends, no surprise there as he was one of the ten stonehearts. your shoes clicking when they met the marbled floors, your eyes skimmed through the reports, trying to guess which proposal will be approved or disapproved. when you reached a familiar door, you fixed your hair and readjusted the insignia pinned to your vest. an aventurine stone, just like your boss.
you knock thrice -short, short and long- before you hear a muffled voice tell you to come in.
âgood morning, mr. aventurine.â you greet with a slight bow as normal. âas punctual as ever, [name].â raising your head you nod towards topazâs direction in acknowledgment before making your way to his desk. âhere are all the reports from the last mission. iâve read through all of them and made sure everything is in order.â placing the papers on the table, he dropped the ones in his current hand before taking the new ones, all the while, you place down his coffee which he gladly took.
âyou aren't overworking them, have you, aventurine?â topaz inquired, crossing both her arms over her chest. âwhat kind of boss do you take me for friend? a bad one? i can assure you my assistant is in good hands.â the blonde man chipped in, his fingers flipping from one page to another as you busied yourself trying to organize the scattered reports on his table. feeling topaz's gaze, you give her a slight smile and nod, confirming that aventurine is in fact, was a good boss.
she just sighed and shook her head. motioning for you to come over, you look to aventurine who gave you a nod in turn. you walked towards topaz -feeling the searing stare of aventurine burn through the back of your head- as she took out a flash drive and handed it to you.
âthis is the recording of the last meeting in regards to the mission you're tasked with. since you were still in pier port, we started without you.â
âhow cruel of you, to start such an important meeting without even waiting for me.â
ah yes, the pier port incident. you smiled wearily as your shoulder slumped when you remembered what happened. you shake your head in amusement of the memory.
âthank you topaz,â you break the silence, like you always do. âiâll be sure to look over it today.â she smiled at you in appreciation before turning her back on you and waving goodbye.
âwell, that was all i came for. catch you two later.â
once the door clicked shut and the sounds of footsteps getting fainter and fainter, you took it as a sign to turn back to your boss who was already looking at you.
âis something the matter, sir?â you ask. he took off his glasses with a hum and turned his attention back to the papers he was reading. âbe sure to give me a summarized report of the meeting before you go home.â you nod and take a seat on the couch in his office and boot up the laptop on the coffee table. you've always wondered when it suddenly appeared in his office, you were 98% sure it wasn't there when you first started working but aventurine always said that's it been there the entire time.
you shake the thought out of your mind and shift into work mode. hours seem to pass by in the blink of an eye before you heard aventurine call out to you. âiâm sorry mr. aventurine, i'm afraid i didn't hear you.â you heard him sigh and repeat his question. âi said, why did you join the IPC? actually, no, that's not what i want to know.â
when you looked up from the laptop in front of you, your boss had taken a seat across from you. you felt your heart thumping in nervousness.
âwhat exactly did you do to pique jadeâs interest?â
frozen. you felt frozen on your spot. fingers stopping midway from pressing onto the keys. those beautiful eyes you've slowly grown accustomed to seeing unfiltered from his glasses, they make your heart and pulse beat in an unfamiliar rhythm.
âi come from a well-off family.â you start, suddenly feeling conscious of your background. âmy parents have worked closely with the stonehearts, i suppose miss jade wanted to continue the diplomatic relationship between my family and the IPC.â
âis that the reason why you're here now?â
you simply nod even though you weren't so sure if that really was the reason.
âlet me ask you another question.â
letting out a startled noise when the laptop in your lap suddenly close with a gloved hand sitting on top of it, you stare at aventurine's purple eyes that had rings of teal, something so uniquely him that you couldn't help but get lost in them. he took the laptop from your grasp and set it on the coffee table as he leaned both his arms on his legs.
âdo you like working under me?â
the question caught you off guard and it showed with how the corner of aventurineâs mouth twitched up into a smirk. hiding behind a closed fist and clearing your throat, you pray that your voice wouldn't waver as you answer.
âi do.â you peaked towards his directions and he didn't seem satisfied with your answer so you list out all the reasons why you like working with him. âdespite your⊠questionable habits, iâve come to grow used to them as time goes on.â a fond smile made its way to your lips when you dug around your mind trying to find your memories that had aventurine in them, only to realize that he was in all of them.
âiâve come to enjoy all your little shenanigans in missions.â
âi'll have you know, calling your bossâ plans âshenanigansâ could lead to your bonus being cut by a few percent.â he huffed like a child as he decided to just sit back and cross his arms over his chest and raise his chin at you. you chuckle at the action and continue.
âever since i was a child, i have always wanted to travel the cosmos. but since iâm the only child to my mother and father, my childhood, teenage years, and now adulthood is centered around business and trade. going out on missions with you to different planets, they heal that little part of me that wished to travel.â
âbut sometimes, i truly believe that you want me to die from a heart attack.â you hear him snicker from under his breath as he fixes the watch on his wrist. âi know that as a gambler taking risks is just a part of it but aeons, do they scare me to death sometimes.â
âif i knew you cared about me so much, maybe i would tone it down a bit!â there was a playful undertone to his voice as he talked to you. you let out a laugh and shake your head. âno offense sir, but i sincerely doubt that.â
âyou wouldn't be the boss i've grown accustomed to if you didn't do your risky gambles.â
something flickered in aventurine's eyes, you were sure of it. but before you could find out what it was he suddenly stood up, putting on his usual glasses and giving you a closed eyed smile.
âwell, that was all what i wanted to ask you.â you wanted to ask something in return, but you never had the chance to even get a word out when he was already halfway out the door. âbe sure to finish that summary before the day ends. leave it at my desk as usual.â
and just like that, the office door clicked shut.
â
âif i told you the reason, that'd be the same as revealing a trade secret.â
aventurine remembered jade's word. how could he not when they repeated in his mind like a broken record.
after he left his office, it felt like he suddenly went back in time. it just had been roughly a month after you were given the position as his assistant and aventurine wasted no moment at the end of that friday afternoon to dash in jade's office and ask her the question: why were you his assistant.
aventurine scoffed at jade's response while she only smiled. clicking his tongue in annoyance as the woman led him in circles when he kept asking. what was the reason? was it that hard to answer?
the next few days weren't necessarily the best. he was like a walking ticking time bomb, ready to blow up at any second. everyone in the IPC kept their distance from him -not like they didn't keep their distance to begin with, some started whispering among the hallways about his potential termination after a very big gamble he almost, almost, lost. what ticked him off the most, was you.
he felt so frustrated at you because why were you so damn perceptive. those past few days, the papers that were messily and hastily thrown on the giant table in his office were suddenly organized into neat piles, all held together with different colored paperclips and a sticky note of when each pile was due to be submitted. how every morning you wouldn't fail to knock thrice at his door -short, short and long- at exactly 3 minutes before 9 in the morning with two cups of coffee in your hands. or the times where you would take one good look at him and start lighting up the candles in his office that you started buying for him because you noticed he'd be slightly less stressed when the room didn't smell like fear and insecurity.
what he hated the most was even after his little temper tantrum the past few days began to subdue, you still continued your almost doting actions towards him.
when did he start anticipating your methodical knocks 3 minutes before 9? when did he suddenly grow disappointed whenever someone knocked on his door and it wasn't you? topaz had suddenly grown confused when he suddenly came into the meeting room with a cup of coffee in his hand and when she asked about it he would simply say, âwell, my darling assistant bought it for me!â. the multiple scented candles in his office that burned too quickly so at the end of every month he'd have you go out and buy some more.
when did he start using his left hand -the hand he left bare from rings, the same hand that shook in fear of losing- to guide the small of your back away from the crowd whenever you would accompany him to missions?
when did he start taking off the glasses that hid the eyes he wanted to sell to someone else?
it was so confusing yet so simple at the same time. aventurine had grown fond of his little assistant. he has grown fond of you. and that was all there is to it. after all, why would he go out of his way to get that customized brooch that you wear every single day when you come to work if he hadn't. how his chest would swell with pride whenever you spoke with higher positioned officers in the IPC and how they would avert their gaze because of the pin on your vest.
and he knows that you know of his sudden change in demeanor. you just never say a word for his sake. how he went from being a distant and acquainted boss to a friend. an actual friend. and that was supposed to be it. he did say in your first meeting that you should be good friends, but how was he supposed to keep his words after the little stunt you pulled at pier port?
it was a simple mission, negotiate and get the upper hand, nothing more and certainly nothing less. like any other mission, he was accompanied by you and some other people under the IPC. everything was going smoothly until one of them just had to open their mouth and talk shit about his already dreadful past just because he had forgotten to put on his glasses. he truly has grown a bit too comfortable with you around, and he didn't like it.
âwhat's a sigonian scum like you doing in the IPC? why don't you crawl back into the hole you came from?â
he just sighed. shaking his head, hiding his left hand behind his back, shielding it away from everyone's gaze as it shook with anger, disgust, and the tantalizing question of why.
why did he have to go through this?
and then you did something out of the ordinary.
the sweet assistant of aventurine suddenly pulled out the gun situated on your hip and pointed it directly to the manâs forehead, a deathly glimmer shining in your eyes as your index threateningly ghosted over the trigger.
âif you do not take back what you said just now, i won't hesitate to put a bullet or two in that empty skull of yours.â
then you started walking, and he started backing up. you didn't stop until the man was standing on the edge of the port, one simple push and he'd be drowned in the vast icy oceans. that is, if he wasn't already drowning in the fury of your eyes.
aventurine felt his body move in instinct. his left hand holding your wrist and slowly putting it down at your side. he gave a half assed apology about your behavior and ushered you to your original destination. this time, he kept his hand on your back, specifically near the gun on your hips to make sure you didn't point it at someone else.
âdo they always speak to you that way?â you ask barely above whisper. eyes strained one the road you were walking one while his bore into your very being. âiâve grown used to it. be sure to not point that gun of yours to any potential partners, mâkay?â to prove his point, he tapped the gun on your hips with his finger and you just sighed. a simple yes stumbling past your lips before being enveloped by silence.
aventurine was sure. he was very, very, sure that was the last nail in the coffin, and the answer to the question he's been asking.
the entire day, you stuck by his side. glued to the fucking hip and no one dared to utter a single word about him. the meeting went smoothly and when everyone was preparing to go home, he called you over and said:
âthat stunt you pulled earlier, stays between us, alright, friend?â
and you simply nod in understanding.
you carry your bags onto the ship to take you back home only to be taken aback when aventurine comes to steal it away from your hands. âtake it as thanks for earlier.â he remembered that look of shock before it turned into something else -what it was he didn't know because you turned away before he could even fathom what of it made his stomach do flips.
even when he came to drop off your things at your personal room, he found himself lingering by the door. watching you unpack your things as he stood idly. you would eventually turn to him and ask if he needed anything more, and out of curiosity he asked: âwhy did you point your gun at that man?â he will never forget the look of puzzlement on your face when he asked.
âbecause he said something unpleasant to you. as your assistant, i can't allow others to simply trample on your name.â
he spent the night staring up at the ceiling while laying on his bed. your words mingling in with jade's in his mind, trying to fit the two like puzzle pieces to ease the racing of his heart and uneasiness of his mind. he didn't like assuming things. a conjecture such as this would cost him too much, but tonight he indulged himself in the thought.
picking up his phone and messaging jade, he laid his forearm over his eyes and sighed.
âthis room smells horribleâŠâ he muttered. the strong scent of chlorine made his mind spin. making him miss the scented candles you had slowly but surely placed inside his office. he'd grown so fond of them that he'd bought some of his own to place around his home. âah⊠i think i'm screwed.â
â
it has been approximately 3 system hours since you arrived in penacony, and roughly a few system hours before aventurine's eventual demise.
topaz had just finished speaking with the trailblazer and their companions. when they had left you stood next to her and stared at the giant prison turned hotel.
âyou⊠don't seem too worried.â topaz said, you felt her gaze but you didn't turn to look at her, instead you just gazed into nothing. âit would be a lie if i said i wasn't worried.â you were most definitely worried, terrified even. no matter how many times aventurine does his high risk gambles, you will never get used to it, not when it causes ghostly hands to squeeze at your heart at the sheer thought of him losing. the thought of losing him.
âbut i trust miss jade's judgment. i trust aventurine.â
roughly a day before his departure to penacony, curiosity got the best of you and you stuck around the meeting room in secret when aventurine stayed behind.
âwhat can i do for you, aventurine?â jade's voice slightly echoed in the empty room. your hands slightly shook in fear of being caught, but you were just so curious about what has been going on with your boss that you couldn't fight the urge to eavesdrop a bit. âoh nothing much. i take it you received my message?â you assumed the woman nodded because aventurine continued. âi must admit, your little plan worked. but is it really necessary?â
jade stood up from her seat, her heels clicked on the marble floor and aventurine followed her until they were by the door.
âwell, it's better to stay safe than sorry. and besides, this doesn't count as a complaint, right?â
you heard him chuckle. somehow, even though you hid behind a pillar you felt his stare bore into your being. you could almost imagine those purple eyes that had rings of teal in them that made you weak in the knees.
âno, not necessarily. i could never consider it as a complaint.â he took a moment before asking another question. âbut i want to hear it from you, friend. why did you assign [name] as my assistant?â
âit's rather simple really,â jade replied. âyou need a reason to leave penacony alive, no? i simply made it easier for you.â
you? the reason for aventurine's will to live? it seemed rather silly. how you, a simple assistant, be so much of importance to someone like aventurine, but with how topaz came to hold the hand that gripped the brooch he had given you, you thought otherwise.
this half a year you've been working with him, you like to think that you've gotten to know him very well.
how when you stood beside him as he sat himself in another gamble, he would always lay his left hand on his lap, fingers curled into fists so tight you were afraid his palms were bleeding.
how he always hid his âweakerâ hand behind his back in dire situations to hide his fear.
or when he would always take off his glasses in his office whenever you were there. and that laptop you were 98% sure wasn't there when you started working? aventurine apparently got it specifically for you so you could work in his office.
but what you were most sure of was:
âaventurine doesn't make deals he knows he won't benefit from. he'll win, he always does. he'll come back, i know it.â

â will they, wonât they.

pairing: hoshina soshiro x gn!reader
premise: hoshina soshiro has been hopelessly in love with you for years now. and for the first time, you finally hear him say the words "i love you."
â warnings: down bad + jealous hoshina, modern setting, reader is a kyudo player.
â author's note: little miss says she's going on a break then proceeds to write about hoshina soshiro for all the dying fans (its me, i'm the dying fans.) art credits to @.BByo_chick on twitter.| ~700 words.
âhow long are ya gonna keep me here?â
âno one is forcing you to.â
hoshina only clicks his tongue and stares at the dojo walls. his finger impatiently tapping at his chin as he hits crossed leg on the floors. itâs half past 5 in the afternoon now and you have no intentions of going home anytime soon.
âiâm gettinâ bored here,â he drawls, hands stretching over his head as he watches you shoot another arrow with pin-point accuracy that makes his smirk twitch uncomfortably. youâve gotten too good at kyudo, and it shows.
âthen go home,â you reply as you pull the bow back and aim for your next shot. âyou donât have to keep waiting for me to finish.â
but that was the thing: hoshina wanted to wait for you and he always will.
he wants everyone to know that you had him and heâs all youâll ever need. there was no need for that guy who caught your fall a few days agoânot when heâs been catching you for the past 3 years. he was your guide in the train station every morning, so why do you keep trying to go to the station earlier and ask your junior for directions? hoshina soshiro was always by your side, so why couldnât you see that?
âiâll wait,â he murmurs into his hand, eyes looking at anything but at you. âgot nothinâ to do at home anyways.â
it was a weak excuse, but it always does the trick. you always relent and let him stay but not without throwing a look over your shoulder that screams âyouâre acting strange.â because he was. hoshina, against his will, feels his lips being tugged into a frown whenever you interact with anyone that isnât him.
that sounds very badâit is bad in a senseâbut hoshina would never dream of taking away your freedom. so he just watches, painfully by the sidelines, with a scoff on his face as another student from a rival school stammers to ask for your number. it was irritating, having to watch everyone throw themselves at you when youâre clearly uninterested.Â
âwhat the hell will happen if iâm not by yer side, captain.â hoshina jests as you pack up your stuff and lock the dojo.
âis this about earlier?â you ask with an amused lilt to your voice. âwhen the new student asked for my number?â
hoshina hated how you always aimed for the heart.
âi have no idea what yer talkinâ about,â he weakly tries to change the topic. hoshina racks his brain to think of somethingâanythingâto help change the conversation, but his mind keeps circling back to you. how you almost looked serious when some guyâwho was leagues below you by the wayâhad the gall to ask you out for a date.
ânever took you for the jealous type.â you tease.
âitâs because âm not.â he said through gritted teeth, hands balling into small fists against his school bag. ââm lookinâ out for ya, alright? that guy was a creep. iâm keepinâ yer ass safe from weirdos.â
you looked unconvinced but didnât comment on his unusual aggressiveness. hoshina let out a frustrated sigh, a hand coming to ruffle your hair and pull just a tiny bit closer that would make everyone question your relationship. this was driving him crazy but he couldnât do anything about it.
ââm not jealous. get that over yer pretty little head.â
and until you both got on the train and went your separate ways to go home, hoshina soshiro never once let your hand drop to your side. he kept you impossibly close to his side and whispered sweet good lucks into your ear. body so comfortably lax in your presence he was slouching on the train seat so he could bury his nose in your hair.Â
hoshina soshiro was so unfathomably in love with you.Â
how could he not love you when you use your own heartbeat to calm his erratic one during every competition? when every hug has his mind spinning with gold and you. every victory is dedicated to your name, and no trophy or medal could ever compare to the feeling of running into your arms and drowning in your praise.
âi love you.â he mutters as you sleep peacefully on his shoulder on your way home. how many years has he been saying it before he lost count? itâs truly just a matter of when youâll wake up and finally realize it yourself.
he feels the blood rush to his brain as he throws himself on his bed, unable to wipe the image of you smiling as if you had heard him.

â 11:11 wishes.

pairing: kinich x gn!reader
premise: you weren't one to believe in manifestation that the media portrays, but the student council vice president has made you think otherwise.
â warnings: reader is me coded (re: delusional), just pure fluff, modern/school setting.
â author's note: heavily inspired by my own experiences and shit. art credits to @.n429g on twt. | 2.6k words.
â tags: @ryescapades @moineauz @mikashisus @https-sourlimes ; if you'd like to be tagged, please fill out the forms in my pinned!!
you spent an entire hour and a half staring at the pretty boy two seats in front of you. again.Â
with a frustrated groan and very aggressively typed out messages to mualani, you heave out a sigh and watch your bedside clock tick. it was 11 minutes to the wishing hour and you were very much considering wishing kinich would miraculously be your partner for your next nonfiction project. youâre not sure how long you spent daydreaming about the way the student council vice president spun the pen in his hand with ease or how he always seemed so serious and mysterious. by the time you look back at your clock it was barely 2 minutes before 11:11 pm hit and you scrambled to sit up.
âam i really about to try and manifest this guy?â you ask in disbelief as the magic numbers appear and you find yourself closing your eyes, lips muttering a soft wish, âplease let him be my partner for this project.â
now, you werenât much of a believer in manifestation per se, but when you woke up earlier than your alarm and with the birds chirping, you just knew something good was going to happen today.Â
as you make your way to school, you peek at the bulletin board mualani and the rest of the council is working on for foundation week. unsurprisingly there was a crowd of students around it, all trying to catch the eye of the president and her right hand man. mualani has always said you stare at people like a hawk because she spun around from what she was doing and waved at you, very exaggeratedly mind you. the boy you spent the entire night thinking about suddenly turned to the commotion and you were left to awkwardly wave hello before making your way to the classroom.Â
his stare was intenseâyou felt it all the way until you turned a cornerâbut you canât deny the sudden heat that rose to your cheeks when you remembered the color of his eyes. vibrantly shiny and green; like seeping sunlight through the leaves of summer trees. it was a sight to behold, unforgettable dare you say. you thought about the way his bangs framed his face, the slight smudge of paint on his cheeks, and the way you caught a glimpse of how his hand slightly raised as if to wave hello until your english class started.
âand for our last pair: [name] and kinich.â
now, itâs no surprise that you donât listen in class (you and mualani joke that if either of you ever listened to a class the world might end) but this? this piqued your attention so badly you nearly toppled over your own chair. the hushed giggles of your classmates rang in your ears as maroon rushed to your cheeks. your eyes unwittingly found their way to the pretty boy two seats in front of you who willingly caught your stare. he looked equally intrigued and amused and you canât help the awkward smile you flash at him.
âholy shit, it worked.â
you feel mualaniâs judging stare as you unabashedly kick your feet in glee as a wide smile spreads on your face.
âget well soon,â she jokingly says, stealing her shark plush from your arms as you pout at her. mualani rolls her eyes at you and smacks you with the plush which you retaliate by throwing a pillow at her. âgive me a pass! this is a first for me.â
âand i hope itâll be the last!â you glare at her as she dodges another pillow. laughing as she skips out of your room leaving you on your bed with your phone and the paragraph you still haven't sent.
âwhy is green your favorite color?â
after your firstâvery awkwardâconversation with kinich, he graciously gave you his number to stay in touch for this project. it was rather simple really: pair up, interview each other, write a biography. easy right? well, not when your partner is the definition of a wallflower at its peak. youâre not complaining though, in your last class with him (that was literally just 3 days ago), he had allowed you to talk his ear off and asked if it was alright if he just talked to you over text. still unsure and admittedly (though not verbally) shy to open up to a person heâs only known for less than a week.
so here you are now, exchanging texts with the guy you lowkey have a crush on, unsure of how to rephrase your answer to not make it so obvious that you like him. no way in hell youâll just shoot a text that says, âoh, i like green because you always wear a green hoodie to school.â youâd die from embarrassment! but then again, kinich has mentioned in a previous question on how he preferred straightforward people.
with an aggressive thumb pressed to the back button, you type out a new message that wasnât two paragraphs long that described the color of his eyes.
âthe color reminds me of summertime. what about you? whatâs your favorite color?â
he doesnât even give you a chance to put your phone down for a full minute before it buzzes with a new notification. with mortifyingly fast reflexes, you shove your phone to your face, your own screen brightness flashing you as your heart hammers in your chest. fuck butterflies in your stomach, you had an entire zoo with the series of messages kinich had sent.
âblue. you were wearing a blue bracelet when we first met and i really liked it.â
âandâ
âit suits youâ
âis that a weird thing to say?â
what⊠the⊠fuck
mualaniâs footsteps raced against your carpeted stairs as she barged into your room, half eaten cookie in her hands. her worry dissipated into a judging but amused smile as you pace around your room, hands covering your faceâyou were quite sure steam was rising out of your head with how warm your face felt.
âmualani, he remembered,â you say in disbelief as you fall to your ass, sitting on your bedroom floors. grabbing the nearest plush on your bed and screaming into it as mualani laughs. âthis is not funny!â
âbut it is!â she insists, wiping a fake tear from her eyes. âyouâre such a goner.â
âbut he remembered the color of my bracelet!â you throw your hands up in the sky, rushing to your feet and grabbing your best friend by her shoulders. âwho the fuck remembers the color of someoneâs bracelet?!â
mualani laughs again as she peels your grip from her shoulders. âkinich. and you better get used to it, that guy has an even more hawkish stare than you.â
yeah, mualani was right, you were a goner. how the hell are you going to sit in front of him in your next class without bursting into a million pieces?
staying up with mualani until half past midnight was not a good idea because here you two were, laughing in panic as you both rushed to get ready for school. this girl, you swear sheâll get you expelled one way or another (but you wonât have it any other way).Â
with all the previous treacherous pe classes in your system, you try your best to keep up with mualaniâs athleticism under the chilly morning breeze. you might be laughing now but if you were to show up late in english even if it's only by a minute or two, youâll get cooked on the spot by your teacher. even worse! kinich would have a front row seat for the entire fiasco because he always arrives 10 minutes before the actual class.
cursing your lowkey crushâs punctuality as you both speed past other almost late students, you bid mualani a quick goodbye and make a swift turn to your class. in your locked in state, you donât notice the poor student in front of you. the world stilled for a moment as papers flew like miniature planes as you braced yourself to meet the cold school floorsâbut it never came.
âare you alright?â
you slowly look up, and there he isâkinich, his brows slightly furrowed, holding you steady with his gentle hands. âbe careful,â he says, voice soft but still scolding. âyou couldâve gotten hurt.â
âr-right, sorry,â you stammer, trying to ignore the shaking of your hands and thumping of your heart as you scramble to pick up the stray papers on the floor.
your hand paused when kinichâs fingers brushed against your own. kinich catches your gaze, and for a moment, you both stillâgreen eyes filled with warmth, so full of something that pulled you in like a vortex. you canât look away. heat rises to your checks when he clears his throat, standing up and handing the papers back to the student.
you follow his lead, brushing off imaginary dust from your uniform as you pull out your phone for a quick check on your appearance. you barely have a second to process what just happened when you hear kinich cough again.
âletâs go to class,â he says, covering his mouth with his fist and his eyes avoiding you but you catch the faintest of smiles tugging at his lips. âiâll tell the teachers i asked you to help me with council work so he wonât mark you as late.â
âoh no, no!â you quickly decline, waving him off with a lopsided smile. âitâs alright, you donât have to cover for me. i stayed up late last night so itâs still my fault for being late.â you chuckle nervously, but kinich just stands there, watching you closely.
you stiffen like a board when he takes a step towards you, then another, and another until heâs standing right in front of you. well shit, he smelled really nice; unexpectedly floral mixed with a salty ocean breeze. you feel blood rush to your ears when kinich plucks a stray leaf from your hair and did he just chuckle?
âall right then,â he says with a small, barely-there laugh, turning to walk to class. you donât notice the way he slips his hand through the straps of your bag until he slings it over his shoulders. âletâs get to class. i still have a lot of questions to ask you.â
this boyâs smile truly will be the death of you.
â11:11, i wish to talk to him even after this project.â
you find yourself wishing as you and the rest of mualaniâs friends leave the campus after an unexpected cancelation of classes. today marked as the last day of your little getting to know with kinich. you were already finished with his biography and have been purposely leaving out certain bits of information in your answers so you could spend some more time with the boy.
speaking of which, said boy was conversing with xilonenâa pretty third year who you had the pleasure of meeting because of himâregarding the foundation week. all of you agreed to go to a karaoke booth to pass time (more like mualani dragged you to join because of your glum mood), but before you could take another step to your destination, a warm hand catches your wrist and softly tugs you back.
âweâll catch up,â kinich says as you try to bite back the smile threatening to spill from your face as he plays with the beads of your bracelet. âwe need to finish up the biography project.â
mualani complains about why you still arenât finished. if it werenât for chasca and xilonenâs persuasion, the younger girl wouldnât have allowed the two of you to split up. with an amused chuckle, you readjust the straps of your bag and look at kinich who caught your stare.
âshall we go?â
he nods and the walk to the park was spent in quiet appreciation of the sun. when you catch sight of the free swings at the heart of the park, your hand as if magnets came, tug at kinichâs sleeve and drag him to sit down there. bags carelessly thrown to the side as he scolded you on what if something broke. you only laugh in response and gleefully sit down.
âpush me?â you ask with a childish smile as kinich shakes his head but still follows through with your request. he gently pushes you on the swings as you hum a small tune. âwhat questions do you have left?â
kinich stopped pushing you and instead sits down beside you. slowly swinging himself as he says, ânothing. i just wanted to be alone with you.â
the chains of the swings creak softly like your heart as butterflies were set free in your stomach once again. he turns to youâall blushing cheeks and biting back a smileâwith a knowing and entertained look in his eyes.
âi hate you,â you randomly say as you swing yourself. trying to cool yourself with the morning air as kinich follows suit. âiâm gonna miss talking to you,â you continued, eyes strained over the horizon as children began to appear with their parents in tow.
âyou say that as if this will be the last time we talk.â
you stop swinging and look at him, hands gripping at the chains more tightly than you wanted to admit. âis it not the last time?â
âno.â he quickly replies and you're stunned. âdo you want us to stop talking?â he turns to you with a raised brow and you couldnât hold your smile back anymore as you shake your head no.
âi never really thanked you for saving me from face-planting in front of so many people.â you bring up the memory in jest as you giggle. there was a faint chuckle that the breeze carried as kinich replied, âit was no problem.â
âcan i tell you a secret?â you grin at him. youâre not quite sure what spurred you on to suddenly bring this up but truly, it was now or never. âgo ahead.â
âi wished youâd be my partner for this project, and wouldnât you know, it actually happened.â
âoh, i know.â
âŠ
what?
kinich laughsâlight like the morning sunlight seeping through summer leaves. you stare at him dumbfounded as red spread across your cheeks. âhow the hell did you know?! i never mentioned it before have i?â your voice grew quieter as you trail off. hands coming to shield your flustered face from him.
âno, you didnât. mualani did though.â
ah.Â
he pulls out his phone and flashes you a screenshot of his mualaniâs conversation from a month ago. you feel your dignity and pride get sucked out of you as mualani even sent screenshots of you complaining about not knowing how to approach kinich outside of academics, hell, she even had a voice message of her undoubtedly laughing!
âi pulled a few strings for our english class so weâd get paired up,â he said with a cheeky glint in his eyes.
âwhy?â you ask.
kinich smiles, not the small tugs at the corners of his lips he graces you whenever you do something stupid, a full smile where his teeth caught the light of the sun. âi wanted to be your partner, too. since i granted you a wish itâs only fair you grant me one too.â
you try to ignore the erratic flips your heart was doing from his first statement, putting it on the backburner for now as you chuckle nervously. your palms started to sweat and your mind raced with what kinich could potentially want from you.Â
âbe my partner for life, thatâs my 11:11 wish today.â
god, this boy truly wants to kill you.

â lost to time ft. sae itoshi

â warnings: angst, character death, slight ooc?
â author's note: a reupload of my favorite work on sae while i finish editing the next 2 chapters of my hazbin series. enjoy!
â first recording
âhi sae! i heard from rin that youâll be leaving for spain. iâm really sorry i couldnât come to see you off, iâve been busy studying, you know, for exams and stuff. but thatâs beside the point! i wish you all the best sae! do your best and when you come back home, you better be the worldâs best striker yeah? donât worry, everything will pass by quickly so donât miss me too much ok?â
sae hated planes. he hated them quite a lot. in was a constant reminder of that time when he was only 14, leaving home to go to spain to live out his dreams only for it to be crushed 4 years later. sae hated the airport, it was always so busy and so stuffy and so cramped. he hated the feeling of being surrounded by unfamiliar strangers, hated the feeling of people brushing up against him even if they didnât really mean it. sae hated winter. it was the season he severed his bond with his precious little brother after all. it was the season he turned his back on him and it was the season he had wished to never relive again.
-
â second recording
âhey hey guess whoâs sending you another voice message? itâs me obviously, why didnât you tell me you were back already?! if you did i wouldâve picked you up from the airport!
âŠâŠ
is something the matter sae? you havenât picked up any of your parentsâ calls and their really worried about you. you can always talk to me remember? iâll always be here to listen, ok? donât bottle everything up, itâll do more bad than good. well, i have to go now. talk with your parents every once in a while will you? ever since you left for spain youâve pretty much cut off all contact, even with me. thatâs all, good night sae.â
sae didnât really like flowers. he thought they were a hassle. plants that require specific needs and if not met, theyâll wilt. sae was never fond of them but here he was, standing in front of the counter of a local flower shop as the elderly shopkeeper wrapped a bouquet â filled with carnations, gardenias, lilies, roses, and chrysanthemums.Â
everything passes.
â college; third recordings
âi got into my dream college sae! can you believe that! honestly, i was really nervous when i took the entrance exams, but thankfully i studied real hard and managed to pass! iâll be moving into the dorms soon. iâm gonna miss home. oh and rin! i heard he got into a soccer program recently, isnât that nice! heâs following your footsteps in becoming the best striker in the world. i know, i know, you arenât a striker anymore but itâs still nice to know that youâre still into soccer at least. by the way, when will you come back home? i kind of miss you, you know. i never got to see you off and when you did come back i was out of town and really busy. what about we plan a meetup or something in the near future? you know, make up for the times we lost? oh, i have to go now! my parents are helping me move in to my dorm. catch you later sae!â
sae didnât really like coming home. the house he grew up in for the first 14 years of his life felt too foreign to be called home anymore. his parents felt like distant strangers that he just met a couple weeks ago â they felt more like acquaintances than his mother and father. the photos framed around his home felt like ancient relics from thousands of years ago, he didnât recognize them. sae didnât recognize himself.Â
maybe he spent too much time in spain to the point where it felt more like home. how ironic, he began to realize. he had flown back to japan to escape from his hell that was spain but here he was, in his home, in the bedroom he used to sleep in for endless nights, wanting to go back to the place that left his heart hollow.
âthereâs nothing else i could do.â he tried to convince himself as he sat down on his childhood bed, the bouquet of flowers at his side. he could only sigh and let himself fall back into the bed of his long gone home. âeverything passes.â
âhey hey hey itâs me again! how have you been sae? iâd like to think that iâve adjusted pretty well in college. made a few new friends and met some old ones. honestly, i almost didnât recognize them! i mean, do you remember makoto from middle school. he was a such a problem child back then and now look at him! heâs a scholar now! i guess everyone just starts to become more mature after hitting 18, who knows. thank you again, for the gift. i was definitely shocked when my roommate told me i had a package from you. i canât believe you still remember that i wanted âno longer humanâ! thank you, iâll be sure to treasure it. well, thatâs all for today. call you some other time sae!â
everything passes.
-
â drunk recordings; the words i wish i couldâve told you sooner
âhow do you work this again? ah got it! hehe, hi again sae! iâm at a party right now, man maybe you were right, i do have shit alcohol tolerance. but itâs fine. donât worry, iâm already on my way home and the driver isnât some creepy dude that might kill me.
âŠâŠ
you know, i like you very much but i donât think youâll believe me. i know i jokingly said that we should marry each other if we arenât dating someone if we hit our 30s, but i kinda wanna marry you even if we arenât 30 yet. is that weird? i really miss you. please come home.â
âŠâŠ
âhello? god that was so embarrassing⊠sorry, could you just forget about what i said in the last recording? um just, gosh i donât even know. denying it wonât really help right haha⊠itâs in the past now so donât mull over too much ok? please, just disregard that last recording. iâm really sorry, it was just me being drunk.â
sae did not in fact disregard that recording. in fact, sometimes in the dead of night heâd think about it and wonder, if he had replied to that specific recording would things have ended differently?Â
sae didnât like deep and evoking questions about âwhat ifâsâ, he finds them annoying most of the time. and yet here he was now entertaining the idea. bouquet in hand as he casually walked around the neighborhood that the both of you had grew up in. the same twists and turns, same houses, same playground, same everything.
yet the silence was too loud, even for him.
everything passes.
-
â graduation recordings
âwell, i think itâs safe to say i survived. i graduated sae, are you proud? man i still canât believe i was a few point from getting the valedictorian spot but oh well. alls well that ends well i suppose. i heard you won your recent match congratulations mr best midfielder! kinda wish i was there to see it, but donât worry! in your next match iâll definitely save up enough money and buy those tickets to spain and your match one day! just you wait, iâll be the screaming my lungs out and support you, iâm still your number one fan after all!â
sae had some feelings of dissatisfaction when you did not in fact get those tickets to spain and his match. maybe it was his wishful thinking but he really did wish you were there. but he knew it was impossible.Â
he remembered the feeling of anger and frustration running through his veins, cursing the heavens above because he felt the need to show the gods his emotions. sae hated thinking about you in that moment. he hated how he felt like he was in a new version of hell whenever you just happened to cross his mind. sae hated you very much.
everything passes.
-
â recordings from 2 years ago
âiâm sorry. i know you shouldâve heard it from me but i guess my family beat me to it haha. to be perfectly honest with you sae, i had no plans of telling you. iâm sorry. its just, the thought of breaking the news to you. how could i ever do that to you? iâm sorry. god iâm so sorry sae.â
âŠâŠ
âhey. i received the gift you sent me. you didnât have to , you know. now i kinda feel bad about having you go on break in the middle of soccer season because of me. but still, thank you. i appreciated you being here, with me. it was a refreshing feeling, talking to you again and just hanging out. work has been really stuffy and felt like i was being caged but you came. you suddenly appeared and suddenly everything was alright again. i know we only said goodbye a couple minutes ago but, i miss you already. sorry. this sounds really weird doesnât it? anyways, thank you again for the gift. iâll be sure to wear it everyday. thatâs all, have a good night sae.â
âŠâŠ
âhey. sorry for calling at such an odd time. i just. i just felt a little lonely. i sound so stupid iâm sorry. good night sae.â
âŠâŠ
âmakoto dropped by today. god he was as annoying as ever but he really cheered me up. he managed to confess to this girl heâs pining over since sophomore year. iâm happy for him. but it really got me thinking about us. i know i told you to forget about that one recording because i was drunk but now that i look back on it, i wasnât really honest. to you and myself. i know this may be the worst timing to confess but yeah, i like you very much. since primary school, as cliche as it may sound i think it all started when you stood up for me from those bullies. now that i think about, i practically glued myself to your side ever since that day didnât i? iâm glad you didnât really mind that. i remember always using homework as an excuse to always have you hang out with me even though i completely understood the lesson. man, where did i get the confidence to do that stuff? but i guess those times are lost in the sands of the past i guess. oh right, sorry, i forgot you didnât really like those type of stuff. getting all deep and whatnot. well thatâs all, iâm getting pretty tired already so iâll head to bed. good night sae.â
everything passes.
-
â present
âhi. thank you by the way. i donât know, i just donât think iâve ever said that you recently. so, thank you. its a bit funny isnât it? i would almost always talk your ear off every recording but this time, i canât even find the words to say. my parents came over, talked to them a bit. rin visited as well. heâs gotten a lot taller than i last saw him, heâs probably taller than you now!
âŠâŠ
sae, thank you. for everything. iâm glad we stayed in touch. iâm glad we stayed as friends. thank you for making my days seem just a tad bit brighter, though sometimes i wonder what it would be like if we were, you know, dating. wonder what the difference would be. i mean weâd still talk to each other right? maybe holding hands and kisses but thatâs pretty much it right? but thinking about it is useless right now. maybe in an alternate universe were actually married and adopted a cat like how we used to talk about.â
âyou know, before this very moment. i accepted my fate already. i was content, i was doing fine but now. sae, i donât want to die.â
âplease remember me ok? and iâll be sure to remember you. iâll see you again, sae.â
ânii-chan..â
sae could only put his phone back in his pocket. his younger brother standing a good distance away from him. he could only imagine how rin looked like right now. was he pitying him, grieving with him? heâll never know because he will never turn to look at him. not when your right in front of him.
how many times had he played all your recordings for the past 2 years? maybe a little over a 100 times? maybe close to 200 now?
sae removed all those thoughts as he placed the bouquet on the ground, the wind seemed to answer to his call â you seemed to answer to his call. despite all the pain, all the misery, all the bitter waves of grief that flooded his being whenever he played your recordings, he couldnât bring himself to stop. he didnât want to forget what you sounded like. your voice reminded him too much of home.
âhappy birthday you idiot.â he said to you, keeping his hands in his pockets, watching the leaves of the flowers in the bouquet sway with the wind. two pieces of paper underneath it threatened to be blown away. âyou said you wanted to come visit me and watch my match, well now you can.â two pieces of paper, one a plane ticket to spain the other a ticket to his upcoming match two weeks from now. âyou better come watch me alright?â he could only bitterly smile.Â
âyouâre 30 now,â he whispered, before getting on one knee. placing a velvet box in front of your gravestone. âyou shouldâve waited for me, you idiot.â sae could only mutter those words to no one in particular. it was as if the world had stopped for a moment, the wind had stopped howling, the sun was nowhere to be seen. he could only see you. âi wanted to marry you too, yâknow.â
sae could remember every occurrence where he would sit at his balcony in spain every night after your passing. phone to his ear, listening to all your recordings. but youâll never know how he replies to them, every single one of them with his own.Â
âi told the stars about you and what we couldâve had.â he chuckled, âyouâre by far the hardest lesson i had to learn.â
standing up from his kneeling position, he gave you one last look before walking away. rin followed suit, but not before placing something at your grave. a pink book that you had loved till the very end.Â
sae hated planes, but he flew back to japan every year. sae didnât really like flowers, but every year heâd get you a pretty bouquet. sae didnât like coming home but if it meant getting to visit you, heâd come back over and over again. sae didnât like reading or any deep and evoking questions but he always humored you whenever you asked him.
sae hated all those things but they reminded him too much of you to let them go.Â
and just like your favorite author, when osamu dazai asked to die, he simplu agreed; but just before his death, he suddenly felt obsession with life.
everything passes. just like how youâll eventually get lost in the sands of time.

â hate is a strong word.

pairing: moze x gn!reader
premise: your relationship with moze could be summarized with three simple words; "i hate you." but you can only deny so much when the word "hate" also means "love" in both of your books.
â warings: mentions of blood and daggers, ooc (?) moze (i have not started the quest at all LMAO)
â author's note: for my dearest @lowkeyren @st6rly @ughscara and @tragedy-of-commons aka my fellow normal moze stans <3333 art credits to @.code_tesseract on twitter!! | ~500 words.
âi hate you.â perfectly surmised your relationship with a fellow assassin. the words are hastily and carelessly uttered with one another at any given moment, one would assume its your way of showing your affection. and they arenât wrong.
âi hate you.â you mutter under your breath as you lay on the grass. your arm bleeding as moze rolled his eyes and threw a roll of bandages into your stomach. the regret of making a blood oath with the kid whoâs been stealing your spot as the greatest assassin prodigy was starting to kick in. the realization that you and he are now forever tethered; past, present, and future lives are now spent trying to one-up each other. you donât know if you want to laugh or cry. moze always seemed to throw away all your logic out of the window with just a glare.
âi hate you.â he grumbles when the two of you are unfortunately paired up for a mission. with a click of your tongue, you jump from roof to roof to try and lose him. split up, you said, it would be faster, but moze would always tug you back by the collar of your shirt and lay down his plans.
âi hate you.â you mumble as he throws your arm over his shoulders. âgood to know youâre still kicking.â you scoff at him and try to pull away but it only makes mozeâs grip on your waist and arm tighter.
âdo you want to die?â he angrily counters and you click your tongue. âif it isnât by your hands, no, no i donât.â
moze hated how you made his ears ring with such simple words. to bystanders âoutsiders of your relationshipâ they would be concerned, but to moze, it was a declaration of the highest affection.Â
âthen donât die now,â he mutters. âyour life is mine to take.â
ânot if i take yours first.â
to everyone, it was clear as day that you two hated each other with a burning passion that would rival the sun.
yes, hate was a strong word, but what else could describe the burning in his chest whenever you pin him to the wall? his dagger in your hand as you press it to the apple of his throat, your eyes narrowed down into a nasty glare while your tone drips venom from the tips of your teeth. moze hated the way your body always gravitated towards him; you were the planet that revolved around him out of necessity and want.Â
it was hatred and it always will be.
you will always hate moze for constantly stealing your spotlight; your daggers and cloaks; his blood that stuck to you like glue, forever reminding you of your oath; the hoodie he always used to shield you from the rain; iron clawed fingers that always brushed over your lips; and the eyes that always spelled âi want youâ in every and any language known to the universe.Â
it was impossible not to hate each other. and even more impossible to say âi love youâ before every mission when the words âhateâ and âloveâ are so intertwined they start to bleed into each other.Â
âi hate you.â you say as you shove at his chest. moze rolls his eyes and pulls your mask to hide your face. âi hate you more.â

â what does it mean to be a star?

pairing: sunday x gn!reader
premise: sunday has stayed with you and the stellaron hunters for a few years. your lives has been filled with many adventures, both good and bad. but like any other story crafted by elio, they must come to an end eventually.
â warnings: slight angst if you squint, implications of committing suicide, not proofread that much.
â authorâs note: one final (?) stellaron hunter!sunday fic before he gets released. ive missed writing for this man. art credits to ćç«é
æ”·ć° on Weibo for the art. | 1.9k words.
â tags: @ryescapades @mitsvriii @https-sourlimes @dazaisms ; if you'd like to be tagged, please let me know by sending an ask off anon or filling out the forms in my pinned !!!
âwhat do you think makes a star, a star?â
elio asked you that question decades ago. and only now have you arrived at one final answer. out of curiosity, you asked each hunter the same question over the years that have passed, each of them giving one answer that didnât quite match the rest.
âto be the top player of course!â silver wolf exclaimed, her tone in a matter of fact manner as she didnât even look up from her console. you only shook your head in amusement, jotting her answer down in a new journal your boss had given you as a present.
âa star you ask,â kafka tilted her head curiously at you. eyes freed from her usual contacts and makeup followed your movement as you stirred the coffee in your cup. âwell, a star for me would be something that captures the attention of others without much effort. stars often piqued your interest, didnât they?â you only smiled in response and nodded. you made a mental note to write it down later before you went to bed.
firefly took a little longer than the last two to answer. you patiently waited, spooning pieces of cake to your lips as the girl in front of you was deep in thought. âa guide. even in your darkest moment, a star will shine as a guide for you to follow so you donât stray from your path.â she answered in a whisper. eyes wistful as she played with the dessert on her plate.Â
âa star,â bladeâs gruff voice cut through the night like a knife. a few bottles of local xianzhou wine separating you two as you sat on the roof overlooking the stars above. you hadnât expected blade of all people to humor your questions, but here you were, grateful in his presence. âit means to burn. so brightly you are unrecognizable, to others and yourself.â
âyou have a sad answer,â you mutter, taking a sip of the wine from the small cup as the man huffs.Â
âtime takes a heavy toll for both you and i,â the wind sways his hair in a deathly dance. he brings his cup to his lips and drinks in one go. you donât mention how you can barely finish a cup with how strong the drink wasâblade could not feel the pain of it in his throat, and he never will. âyouâve already burned through the remains of your past self. it wonât be long before you look in the mirror and be unable to recognize your reflection.â
you frown at his response. âyouâre pessimistic.â
âand youâre hypocritical.â
you have no rebuttal to his accusation, after all, at the very core of your character, the word âhypocriteâ hangs like a thorny crown.Â
âtell me, starcatcher,â red eyes reflected the conflict youâve been massing deep within the columns of your bones. they crash onto your being like how the oceans do to the shoresâunrelenting and loud. âare you that afraid of losing another that you love them as if tomorrow theyâll die?â
you fled the roof that night. unable to face your hopelessness head on after a fresh wound of death lingers by your heart. another attempt, another reminder of the welling darkness that swells from the tip of your fingers and slowly corrupts your entire body. it drowns you and you canât help but fear that time is clutching your shoulder, weighing you down to the ocean floor as it laughs at your predicament.
âso itâs decided then.â
but thatâs no longer the case. no, not anymore. it's been decades since then, and youâve changed.
elio sits by his office chair, typewriter moved to the side as he personally penned the final bits of your songbirdâs script. you were elioâs editor and proofreader. you donât exactly remember when it started but when you were still an unwilling understudyâan actor who refused to acknowledge the stageâhe would trap you in his office and force you to read over his script to make sure there were no errors.
a small and sad smile tugged at your lips as you read the pages of inked fate. âthis is for the best.â
âthe best, yes,â elio ceases his writing. compiling the papers into one bulk and staring right at you. âbut it's not the ending you wanted.â
you shook your head, âmy preferred ending isnât relevant to how the story ends. itâs not my story to tell.â
âyes, but it's a story youâre meant to read,â there was pity in his eyes. your heart felt too heavy with realization to even feel offended by such a look. âyou have the right to feel dissatisfied.â
âthank you, elio, truly,â you only gave destinyâs slave one final smile before standing. you quietly made your way to the door, forcing your steps to sound quiet and lacking sadness. but you canât do that, you never will. building up walls will only prove to be a waste of effort. not when elio knows every brick by heart.
with a heavy sigh, you linger by the office door before making your way to your workshop. memories from years ago flood your mind as the halls fill your senses. photos from vacation, missions, and simple outings hang by the walls while certain trinkets and relics from bygone travels litter the many desks and drawers. time did take a heavy toll just like blade said. kafkaâs skin started to wrinkle a bit, silver wolf started growing taller, firefly grew paler and paler, and blade looked more like death with every breath he took.
time was a painful thing to rememberâitâs not infinite. and even if it was, it's never always kind to everyone. and you? you are worse than time and death itself. you were the inevitableâfinality.Â
âgood morning, [name].â
a voice from behind greets you like a new sunriseâa reminder that a new day is here. you couldnât help the smile that tugged on your lips. seeing sunday in bladeâs shirt hang over his body like a blanket, fireflyâs hair ties on his wrists and a spare console from silver wolf in one hand brings you so much joy.Â
âsunday, good morning!â you sounded breathless. tucking both hands behind your back to hide your shaking as he joined you on your way to the workshop heâs made as his makeshift nest.
sunday smilesâfilled with all the hope youâve craved and lost. it stings your heart like a needle but you donât show it. youâre first to look away, like all the other times in his presence, unable to face the way his wings flutter and smile twitch in concern.
when you reach the workshop, you flicker the lights on and sunday makes himself at home. sitting by the windowsill as you sat down by your table. scattered fabrics for sundayâs final mission lay in your hands, and youâd be damned if you messed up now. even with a heavy heart, you willed your hands to work, all the while ignoring the concerned stare of the angel sunbathing by the window.
the two of you spend the first few hours of morning in each otherâs quiet presence before your tongue itches to ask him a question. âsunday,â you call his name and you curse the flutter in your chest when he immediately looks at you. he noticed his overly quick response and covered half of his face with a fist, pretending to hide a cough instead of his coloring cheeks.
âyes?â he asks, attention solely on you as you pin the needle back on the cushion and smooth out any creases.
âwhat does it mean to be a star?â
he blinked owlishly at your question. a soft hum escaped his lips as his fingers tapped on the rim of his cup in contemplation. âis thereâŠâ he tests the watersâseeing if it's too hot or too cold. âany particular occasion for you to ask me a question?â
you shake your head in amusement when his more formal tone slips out. âno, not at all. just a little tradition is all.â
âwell, then,â the words die out on his tongue. every once in a while, sunday would peer at you like a lost child but youâd only nod encouragingly. âa star means to be remembered.â he looked out the window, watching the clouds pass by in a blur. âeven if they arenât always there, you know they exist.â
sometimes you wonder if it's possible for sunday to look at himself through the lens of your eyes. he was beautiful like the praise of idrila, happiness like ahaâs laughter, and the curiosity for adventure like akivili. sunday wasnât just a star, he was the entire universe. and he remained blissfully unaware of it.
â[name], is everything all right?âÂ
youâre snapped out of your daze when you feel his hand on your cheek. lost in the replays of sundayâs image in your mind, you didnât notice the stray tears that had betrayed your image of an unbothered editor.Â
âplease, donât cry,â he whispers, pressing your foreheads together. his thumb gently wiping away the tears that escaped your eyes. you canât help but chuckle. sunday truly was like a sponge when it comes to othersâ habits.
âwhat hurts you so?â
âwhat makes you think iâm hurt?â quite frankly, you were hurt. so incredibly hurt by his eventual departure but your heart knows his stay was only temporary. but that didnât mean you never hoped.Â
hoped. over the course of a few years, sunday had succeeded in the mission the other hunters failed at. he made you hope again.
âkafka is cooking everyoneâs breakfast. itâll surely brighten up your mood.â he states taking your hand in his and tugging you in the direction of the dining room and kitchen. sunday maneuvered through the headquarters with such ease your ribs began to clamp on your heart again.
this was his home, his respite. but only for a short time.
when the two of you enter the room, you notice his frown. the emotions of everyone were palpableâit felt suffocating. your eyes met blade and you just smiled. one deep breath in and you snapped back into your joyous self. bringing temporary light to the room.
even as you ate and chatted, there were undertones of sadness. sunday nudged your side and quietly asked you, âare you quite sure everything is alright? everyone seems sad today.â
you look at them one by one. kafkaâs eyes are slowly being accompanied by eye bags and wrinkles, silver wolf is nearing bladeâs shoulder, firefly looks paler, and bladeâs hand shakes as he holds his chopsticks. you look at sundayâs eyes, and smile. even he was a victim of time with the way his hair grew longer and face filled with more life.
âtheyâre just worried,â you look away first like always. meeting bladeâs gaze halfway and smiling to yourself when you see him huff in denial. âyour next mission is here.â
what does it mean to be a star? elio asked you that question a long, long time ago. and you only found the answer in the form of an angel with wings behind his ears and eyes that shined like the sun. the star youâve grown to love burns brighter than the sun but still requires rest when night falls.Â
to be a star means to be remembered, even in the face of departure. you remain bright and unforgotten. left in the care of a conductor and an express youâve once loved.
to be a star means to face the inevitable that sunday was meant for greater things than being just a fugitive venturing the universe.
