how to revise effectively
revision is a very important part of education, but many people have no idea how. in this post i'm going to outline the basics of revision. it's important to note that different subjects will require you to revise differently, there is no one size fits all when it comes to revision.
less is more- studying for 30 focused minutes is way more effective than a 5 hour study session while you watch tv.
work on exam technique- this is such an overlooked part of revising for an exam, but if you know how to answer the questions and what structures to use, it will really help you. ask your teacher or search for your exam board online to find out the best way for your subject and exam board.
manage distractions- if like me you get distracted super easily, you need to create an environment with limited distractions. this means put your phone on do not disturb, if your house/place of study is noisy put some headphones on and listen to classical music or study ambience (my favourites are the Harry Potter rooms by Asmrweekly on youtube). if you get distracted while studying by thinking of things you need to do, something that's really helped me is to have a piece of paper next to me that i can write all my thoughts on, so i can continue studying and do what i've written afterwards.
set precise goals for your study session- this helps to reduce procrastination. for example, if I put "study geography" on my to do list i'll procrastinate, but if I put "do 30 flashcards for the topic hazards" I have a clear idea of what I need to do
use the pomodoro method- having breaks is really important in keeping you engaged while you're studying. I don't follow the typical timings, but I usually do between 30-45 minutes of studying followed by a 10-15 minute break depending on how I'm feeling
utilise your study breaks- it's so easy to pick your phone up and scroll through tiktok until you realise your 5 minute break turned into a 3 hour tiktok binge. when I go on a study break, I only go on my phone to snap people back, or for a little scroll on pinterest. I also like to get some more water, grab a snack and stretch. If I'm having a longer break, I'll try to get outside and go for a walk, especially if the weather is good (in England this is about 5 days of the year haha)
now, onto different ways to revise
doing past papers
doing flashcards
making timelines
doing essay plans
making mindmaps
blurting
quizzes
if you study languages, practicing translations or specific types of questions that come up in the exam (for my exam board this is things like gap fill activities, 90 word listening or writing summaries, finding synonyms in a text etc.)

How to improve your next exam scores
These are my ways of scoring in exams and please try and comment how useful they were😇
1. Just the bare minimum - every chapter has few bare minimum topics you can easily spot them they are usually easy yet the foundation of the chapter such topic should be mastered first and for the matter of fact except few exams the reality is most of question are easy to medium level so hence these chapters and topics become very crucial.
2. Plan Plan Plan - planning is crucial, and the most underrated step on the process. But I don’t recommend you proceed the normal way of planning instead follow a different way here is how it is done, first you list down all the topic (no the units or chapters) and side of it mark down its difficulty and importance accordingly dedicate time (this doesn’t apply to bare minimum topics)
3. Mock test - many exam have mock test even if possible request your teacher or professor to give you a mock paper and in many places it is allowed and your teacher might not always give mock paper but a blueprint! Analyze it carefully and find loopholes where you can save time try changing order of answering and fine tune your response time.
4. Be realistic - Always there are many topics which can’t be covered due their lengthiness or difficulty even toppers miss out few topic and it is fine, and instead focus on what you can complete and master it instead of wasting time on a topic you know won’t be worth it.
5. Be calm and positive - I myself used to think exams are hard and I will fail because I haven’t prepared well and this creates stress and anxiety making me go wrong in the things I already know and mastered so stay calm and don’t panic. If you need a break then take it by drinking water and even go to restroom calm yourself down because calm brain works better.

You know you are cooked when your table looks very messy during your exams..(mid-terms🥲)
Messy tables and late night studies with these microscopes..
POV:- When your course makes you learn 10 microscopes just for fun and you are confused about the working.. 🙃🙃✨️

Education Update; How do I recover from this?
Tumblr media
So, it finally happened. I had to quit.
I had my math test today, and beforehand my teacher asks to talk to me in the hallway. She says she sent me an email (which I hadn’t checked) and that because of my grades I could have an extra week to study and take the test.
My grades are shit, ik, but I thought I could get maybe half the questions on this test right, ya know? So I said I didn’t need it, ‘I think I could maybe get 50% right, a pass’ so I go in and I start the test.
Turns out I do need it, because I blank. That’s the worst feeling in the world, just blanking on a test. I’ve never had that happen before either, I’m used to being able to just figure stuff out. I get like halfway through the test, it’s only two pages, and I want to cry. So I ask if I can take the extra week, and my teacher, I don’t understand how she teaches but she is really so nice, says yes. I can do the test in a week instead.
And I should be happy I got that extension and all, but I’m just so tired of feeling like an idiot all the time. I’m in the actual gifted program, I used to get straight A’s/X’s, I just wish I knew what went wrong.
Tumblr media
So, yeah, any advice on how to deal with this would be great. I’ll try to come up with a plan tonight.

Guys, I almost fell out of my chair when I saw my exam grade… I guess I got the extra credit question right.
(The exam was in person, with no notes, one hour, a four-part exam with six essay questions at the end, and we had the hardest professor in the department. The mean for the exam was 84 and the low was 47… ) I feel like an academic weapon.
Funny note: when I finished my exam, I was one of the three students left in the room. I had memorized so much information that my essay questions became papers themselves, lol. So I walked up to the professor and handed him my exam, and I said, “Sorry, I think I wrote you a book.” He looked really confused, then saw my answers spamming pages and stared laughing. I honestly can’t believe I could recall all of that information.

Just finished a History exam! I almost passed out from starvation bc it was two hours long (I get extra time bc I'm disabled) and I think I did so good! But also not very good. I wrote three pages plus notes in an hour and a half about the Great Depression (if I had the time and my lecture notes I could have written at least two more pages) and then I only wrote one paragraph for each of the other two prompts lol. My hand hurts so bad bc of the way I write and it's literally swollen lmao but I'm soooooo proud of myself.

November
Sorry I had been off for few days trying to maximise productivity because I had holidays so I Disconnected my Internet as measure to stop me from getting distracted ! Because I was wasting so much time.
Here is the November challenge 🥳
1. Minimum 5 hours of daily consistent study time
2. Practice minimum 50 questions daily
3. Do daily meditation and yoga (optional)
4. Daily gratitude and remarks to help us improve
5. Never remorse about wasted time and waste more time instead work on your pending task
Nothing much ! My coaching exam is coming it is like batch deciding shit ! Like and the lower batches get useless teachers who don’t teach at all so I have to work to get some good score in it or otherwise money and a year waste in terms of preparation it is really low level they don’t even train you to do good in exam so better I start preparing for it 😭😭😭
So if I don’t post daily assume that I have disconnected myself and crying over math problem
Bye your study buddy
Tarun
