i hear about this:

& all i can think of are a few things: for one thing, the Uncommitted Movement, various Muslim community leaders throughout the US, other Palestinian Americans, etc have been PLEADING with people to not vote third party because while it would hurt Harris, it would in turn help trump, & CERTAIN THIRD PARTY VOTERS ARE IGNORING EVERYONE ANYWAYS.

second, while it's great they said something, i wish it wasn't less than a week before Election Day, but maybe it would help some people who haven't voted yet reconsider... maybe.

third, HAHAHAHAHAHA at the way they give the impression they believe jill stein has any integrity, decency, empathy, or anything we would like to have in a potential leader (if she was serious, which she is not). i admire that they are giving the impression they believe the American Green Party has any inclination to pursue its noble goals when their mascot (stein) has index funds with XL Pipeline, has received funds from Lockheed Martin, has stated some anti-vaxx stances, etc while pretending they're pro-environment, pro-human rights (even though she only JUST started "caring" about Gaza this election cycle as though what's happening over there has only been going on since October 7th & not for literal decades), & so on. stein's running mate is also massively anti-lgbtq & anti-abortion but hey he's Palestinian so he understands your genocide hard line!!!!! anyways i have a feeling the European Green Parties are very aware the American Green Party has become a sick joke but i admire their alleged belief in it being on the same page as them.

finally, there's this particular story:

& what it makes me think of is all these LARPing revolutionaries will never, NEVER EVER EVER, have the same courage or backbone the way Liz Cheney has displayed in the wake of real-life fascism. i don't hear jill stein or other members of the Green Party calling out this heinous bullshit. stein is too busy pretending to get that fucking "5%" while trying to make noise in key swing states only instead of blue states where reaching that 5% is more in reach, further proof of her bullshit.

it infuriates me that third party voters & non-voters, ESPECIALLY ones who are encouraging & SHAMING people to do the same, are doing all this bullshit while pretending 2016 didn't happen & so many of these folks are not just white but also INCREDIBLY anti-black even though many of these folks were on the BLM train a few years ago but now black people especially women are also talking about how they're voting for Harris & y'all are CALLING THEM PRO-GENOCIDE FOR IT. y'all are just as complicit as the rest of us because of our tax dollars & i'm not seeing any of you go to jail because you're refusing to pay for them over this. only CERTAIN kinds of genocides count to you & while those who actually have skin in the game, like actual Palestinians, are begging you not to vote third party & to vote for Harris, y'all shit on them & think you know better because you've been on a high fucking horse for a year. you claim to care about climate change but you're working harder to make sure Harris loses which means trump will win. Socialists-Greens alliance wins Dutch elections to European Parliament

An alliance of the Labour Party and the Green Left (PvdA/GroenLinks) claimed victory in the European Parliament elections in the Netherlands, according to exit polls on Thursday.

A total of 497 candidates, including eight of Turkish origin, from 20 different parties competed for 31 seats in the election. Voting started at 7:30 a.m. local time and ended at 9 p.m. However, final results are scheduled to be announced on the evening of 9 June, after the conclusion of voting in all EU member states.

The official results will be announced on 19 June.

According to an exit poll conducted by public broadcaster NOS and research firm Ipsos, turnout stood at around 47 per cent of the 13 million eligible voters. This marks a notable increase from the previous European Parliament elections in 2019, when turnout was around 42 per cent.

The Labour Party and the Green Left alliance won eight seats, whereas the Freedom Party (PVV), led by Geert Wilders, seemed to fall short of expectations. The PVV, which was leading in the last general election on 22 November, slipped to second place in the European Parliament elections. Exit polls suggest that the party will send seven MPs to the European Parliament.

The elections, which began in the Netherlands on Thursday, will continue on Friday in Ireland, the Czech Republic, and Estonia.

Meanwhile, Wilders expressed a desire to form a joint European faction with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni‘s Fratelli d’Italia, leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, and the Rassemblement National of Marine Le Pen, leader of the Identity and Democracy (ID) group, according to Euractiv.

After discussing FDP, could you talk about Green parties / Green politics regarding progressive coaltition building, too? In Germany, they have been part of coalitions (mostly with SPD, sometimes on Bundesländer level with conservatives) but are fluctuating between just 5 and 15 % of the vote.

European Greens often engage in "stoplight" coalitions with social democratic or labor parties, although they've occassionally been known to make "Jamaica" coalitions with the center-right both in German lands and in various Belgian municipalities.

I have to admit that I don't know much about the internal factors that push the Greens in either direction, but I'll ask my brother about that because he's a political scientist who's done a fair bit of work on European Green parties.

Absolutely insane that people want to lower the voting age to 16, 16-year-olds are idiots. I was an idiot at 16 and I recognized I was an idiot at 16, and if given the right to vote I absolutely would have just because I feel a duty to. By all means, let them interact with and hold positions in parties, and even encourage them to do so, that will help build political awareness before they're properly ready to vote, but it is entirely irresponsible to trust the fate of entire country to people who have not experienced the full scope of the repercussions for their decisions yet. If we lower voting age to 16, it would then become unreasonable to then not lower the age of maturity when it comes to things like tattoos and self-sustainability, and 16-year-olds should not be burdened with that, they should be allowed to be kids for as long as possible and continue to make mistakes, learn and finish school without all these responsibilities

German Greens leaders resign for “fresh start” ahead of election

The Green Party leadership resigned after disappointing results in regional elections, Euractiv reported.

The party, a member of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition government, cited the need for new faces ahead of next year’s national elections. The Greens were excluded from the assemblies of Brandenburg and Thuringia, and won just 5.1 per cent of the vote in Saxony. Party leader Omid Nouripour stated on Wednesday in Berlin:

Sunday’s election result in Brandenburg is testimony to the deepest crisis our party has faced in a decade. We have come to the conclusion: We need a fresh start.

Co-party leader Ricarda Lang added that the Greens needed new faces “to lead the party out of this crisis.” Both Nouripour and Lang were elected co-chairs in 2022 and re-elected for two years in 2023. They also undertook a visual rebranding last year that was meant to emphasise the Greens’ new identity as a moderate government party.

Franziska Brantner, Andreas Audretsch, and Felix Banaszak could be potential next leaders, according to Der Spiegel.

The new leadership will have to prepare the party for next year’s federal election by working closely with the party’s leading candidate. Robert Habeck is currently in a winning position after Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said she would not lead the campaign for a second time after 2021.
