The same political parties, that just spent months of time and hundreds of millions of dollars campaigning for a Voice to Parliament for Indigenous Australians, just voted against a Royal Commision investigation into the abuse of Indigenous children.
What the actual hell????? All that talk about Indigenous rights and recognition, about reconciliation. And a couple days later, the Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs, an Indigenous woman and daughter of an Elder, made a call for an official investigation into the sexual abuse of Indigenous children, and it was voted down.
Showed their true colours quickly. Nothing but a bunch of political grandstanders who can talk the talk but won't walk the walk. They don't care about Indigenous people.

Letter relating to co-design for foundational supports template
Emailing politicians can be intimidating. Below is a template email regarding the importance of youth advocacy in foundational supports.
Co-design for foundational supports
Dear Senator Steele-John [or insert your local member]
The Department of Social Services is halfway through the first stage of consultations regarding the introduction of Foundational Supports, which have a planned end date of the 30th of November.
Peak bodies such as CYDA have reached out to young people and asked us to provide them with feedback, so that they can advocate on our behalf. While this intermediary engagement is welcome, it is disappointing that DSS have chosen to not directly engage with us.
We deserve to be heard without needing peak bodies to speak on our behalf.
Government policies have determined that teenagers can have their own Medicare account at 14; and we can learn to drive at 16; but apparently, we can't be engaged in political and system advocacy that directly impacts our lives.
The next stage of Foundational Supports consultation needs to be inclusive of young people with disability if it is going to be truly supportive of us.
Teenagers grow up into voters. Whenever consultation processes are planned, please remember that we are ready, willing and waiting for opportunities to contribute.
Regards [your name]
Who would I send this to?
I have used Senator Steele-John as an example as this request is in line with his political stances, however you could also send it to your local member.

THE TREATY PRINCIPLES BILL IS BEING PRESENTED TO THE HOUSE TOMORROW!!!!!!!
EDIT: SIGN THIS PETITION THAT CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT AOTEAROA TIME 18TH NOV
EDIT: Here's a link with more info on the Bill and it's contents and breaches!
This matters to EVERYONE in our country! If you're Māori this is about our LITERAL existence, if you're Pākehā, tauiwi, tangata Tiriti this concerns you because Tiriti is what gives you the privilege of existing on this whenua! The Waitangi Tribunal has already said this Bill will be the biggest Waitangi breach ever. YOU have a responsibility to do something.
ACT, our coalition government, and the Ministry of Justice have been intentionally keeping this bill under the wraps. Mad mihi to the MoJ analyst who leaked that draft though (I'm sure they got sacked if not massive repercussions).
What we know so far is that Te Pāti Māori, Green Party, and Labour WILL NOT be voting for this and that ACT, NZ First, and National WILL be voting for this tomorrow. NZ First and National have said that they WILL NOT support this Bill after its first reading so it will go to Select Committee and then die at first reading.
National and NZ First have said they'll only support this Bill to first reading (thankfully) but there is always the chance of closed door promises & favours and we still need to advocate for this disgusting bill to die.
I'll post more about submissions when they open for Select Committee but I'm happy to help answer questions or help with that and the process.
But the racist idiots to email and drill in that you DO NOT want this Bill are...
ACT MPs
1. David Seymour (Email: [email protected] ) (the one bigoted brain cell behind this bill)
2. Brooke Van Velden ([email protected])
3. Nicole McKee ([email protected])
4. Todd Stephenson ([email protected])
5. Andrew Hoggard ([email protected])
6. Karen Chhour ([email protected])
7. Mark Cameron ([email protected])
8. Simon Court ([email protected])
9. Parmjeet Parmat ([email protected])
10. Laura Trask ([email protected])
11. Cameron Luxton ([email protected])
AND
- Prime Minister Christopher Luxon ([email protected])
- Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters ([email protected])
If you're able to participate with any part of the hīkoi please do and please be safe!!!!
Toitū te Tiriti! Ake ake ake!

Listen. I hope I’m wrong. I hope in 1-3 days you all can point at this post and be like “look at this idiot for being paranoid.” I do. But I feel like the writing’s on the wall. There are no paths forward without Pennsylvania, and that gap is too large.
I hope the non-voters are happy. Legitimately. I hope the Green Party is happy. For real. I hope this outcome brings them the joy they hoped it would. I hope they don’t come to regret the next 2-4 years. I hope they’re at peace.
I hope Europe isn’t forced to change their stance on Ukraine like many Prime Ministers have warned they would. I hope there are Palestinians left in Gaza to liberate after Trump “finishes the job” and gets his real estate property. I hope the number of queer folk killed, whether individually or systematically, in the coming years is minimal. I hope the number of women killed by inaccessibility to medical care is minimal. I hope the number of disabled people who face financial hard times is minimal. I hope we genuinely can cruise through these next 4 years. I hope I’m still around to try and fix this in 2-4 years.
I hope the message the non-voters and Green Party sent is actually received. I hope they didn’t send the message to Democrats that conservatism is the way to win and what we should be embracing.
I hope that nothing in Project 2025 is completed. I hope we win at least one branch to throw a stick in the gears of fascism. I hope Trump bombs his second term so poorly that 2026 wipes the GOP out of the House and Senate.
I hope there’s still a global superpower to fix in 4 years. I hope that the corruption we’ve allowed to thrive tonight doesn’t infect our neighbors across the Atlantic like they fear it will.
I still hope for a better future. But I don’t believe that future is going to happen this time. I’m going to try to go to bed.

Please don't let a Yorkshire owned theme-park company destroy Loch Lomond. Look, I'm not eloquent enough to break everything down but this application, if put through would see the destruction of one of the most beautiful places in Scotland.
It holds so many precious memories. Wildlife would be affected drastically, tourism of that scale in this area would do more harm than good.
The link below will give you more details and there's also a petition. It would mean the world to me if you gave it some attention. Thank you.

“The Irish government is offering a €325 weekly basic income trial for artists which will last for three years. As part of the trial 2,000 artists will be randomly selected from all of the applicants. The government definition of artists is broad and covers any creative or interpretative expression, including: visual arts, theatre, literature, music, dance, opera, film, circus and architecture.
The trial hopes to minimise the loss of skill and experience from the arts sector whilst also recognising the value that artists contributes to society. In addition, the trial is aiming to prove that a basic income enables artists to focus on projects without their projects being impacted from the stress of needing to look for work in other sectors to sustain them. Artists who receive the payment are also free to obtain additional work if they please without affecting the payment, however the payment is taxed so additional work may change their tax rate...
The policy was announced by Ireland’s Minster for the Arts Catherine Martin who is a member of Ireland’s Green Party. The Green party are one of three parties in a coalition government in Ireland. When launching the policy Martin said,
“I believe that this scheme is the start of a fundamental change in the way Ireland supports and recognises her artists and arts community.”
Martin went on to say,
“This pilot scheme represents a groundbreaking opportunity for us to explore how the role of the artist in Irish society can be protected and nurtured so we can continue to be inspired by great art for generations to come.”” -via The Good News Hub, 4/30/22

Yesterday was the first reading of the Treaty Principles Bill and it passed. It is one of the most disgusting pieces of legislation to ever be introduced, it is racist and another act of colonial violence.
Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, is the youngest MP since 1853 in Aotearoa's parliament, she is from Te Pāti Māori (Māori party) and is the MP for the Hauraki-Waikato electorate. Know her name, she has faced so much discrimination and violence especially since campaigning and continues to lead with power. She ripped up this disgusting bill and started a haka. The House was suspended after.
This is what the haka is. This is why us Māori do it.
I am so glad we have an opposition with a proud young wahine Māori like her. That we have a whole opposition who STOOD up in solidarity with Māori or who joined in this haka, MPs from Labour, Green, and Te Pāti Māori joined in.
Other MPs were kicked out, a very senior politician here, Willie Jackson was kicked out for rightly so calling Seymour a liar. And this haka is being called inappropriate by the right. It is not. You can't call the haka inappropriate only when it has brown bodies doing it as an act against colonial violence.
Fuck Seymour and as Rawiri Waititi said, see you next Tuesday. Ake ake ake!
