Can I also add that unfortunately, "being kind to those you are afraid of/feel are hurting you makes you vulnerable to harm so you better be angry at them instead" is EXACTLY why bullies bully people. It is the start and end of their thought process, and it's why thinking like that will never break any cycle, will not protect you from being bullied, may even turn you into a bully yourself.

Here's why it doesn't protect you: all bullies WANT is for you to have an emotional reaction to what they're saying. If they're mean to you for the purposes of bullying you, they want you to get angry and frustrated and sad. That's the power they're trying to get: the power over you to disturb you and have effects on your emotional state. When you react as if they've successfully hurt your feelings, they have succeeded in their task, and their system is affirmed to themself. "Wow I sure bothered that person. It's going great!"

Being kind instead is SUCH a powerful tool against bullies for exactly this reason. If you are capable of maintaining your own mind and emotional state no matter how awful someone is to you, you show them that they don't actually have power over you.

Sure, this does freak a lot of people out (having what feels like a certain, 100% hit rate weapon for gaining power over someone suddenly firing blanks can do that to an insecure person), and sometimes this does make people angrier - at first. But that's not because you've made yourself vulnerable, it's because they're perceiving everyone as "I have to put them down before they have a chance to hurt me" and you've just shown them you're actually invulnerable to anything they've got.

They see you as having equal power (or at least they don't have power over you), and because they're afraid everyone is going to hurt them all the time if given the chance, they may then perceive you as a threat. Like on a nervous system level, fight or flight. Do it anyways. When you then don't immediately kill them, their nervous system gets a chance to start unworking the fuckin knots it's twisted itself up into.

A weird side effect of this is that they may start immediately sharing the most personal, vulnerable things you can imagine. It's so wild. Take this with grace. I've had so many experiences where someone who's well known for being universally cruel and hostile says something awful to me, and then when I respond with kindness, then says shit to me absolutely unprompted. Like "I think I lash out at others because I'm scared they're gonna hurt me first. I don't like myself much. My parents were pretty terrible to me growing up, and I don't know how to make friends." Or whatever their thing is that slams the fear button all the time. And then if I respond with sympathy and relate to them, I notice them slowly begin to change over time, trying out kindness instead of proactive hostility. (Or like especially with high school friends I eventually notice them come out as trans on facebook and then they're normal non-hostile people after that. Many such cases. Turns out being in excruciating, mysterious-origin emotional pain all the time makes you feel afraid of everything bc like what's causing that..."oh shit it was the gender again" lol)

Anyways. I've never regretted kindness, never had a bad experience, never had an experience where using kindness instead of reactive hostility didn't gain me at least something. At the very least they get afraid of ME. I've worked with some people who like, other coworkers will come up to me and go "you're so sweet! Tbh it's like a flashing dinner bell for predators! Why is our asshole coworker always doing you favors and working hard on things you request and asking for your help on things? ONLY ever you?" And I'll be like well every time they try to tear me down and I just don't even emotionally react to it at all and stay cheerful, they get FREAKED out like palms sweaty arms spaghetti and go somewhere else for a while. I know it's a sore spot for a lot of fat liberationists (and yes, I'm quite familiar with why so please do not take to my inbox), I think people are scared to talk about it. personally, I think it is crucial that people with fat kinks are able to access fat liberation spaces so long as they leave the kink at the door. I say this not only because the majority of them are fat people, but because that community is steeped in a deep shame and feeling of brokenness for taking delight in fatness and/or weight gain, which perpetuates rampant fatphobia. and fat liberation is what will heal those wounds. I don't understand it when fat activists tell kinksters/fetishists/feedists, whatever you want to call them to stay out of the fat liberation movement. because what is the alternative? do you want them against the movement? that doesn't make sense at all. I think people are so uncomfortable, disgusted, or afraid of this community they don't understand, that they just wish they wouldn't exist. they aren't going away. kink is akin to sexuality, to identity, to queerness. I think what people really mean when they say feedists should stay out of fat lib is, "kink should stay within spaces designated for kink." we aren't talking about kink when it comes to who can belong in a movement, we are talking about people. it is wrong to equate every person who has a kink or a fetish to a predator. it causes very real harm to those people, because they internalize that message that their kink makes them a bad person who is inherently worthless, who has to hide. if feedists aren't welcome in fat liberation, they aren't welcome anywhere.

I think that people who love fat people, love feeding people, love their own fat bodies, who see their fattest selves as their most satisfying selves, would be natural allies to this movement once they find their way to it and feel safe and accepted here. I want to make it absolutely clear that ANYONE is welcome on this blog as long as they aren't harassing or harming anyone. so many of my followers and biggest supporters are kink blogs. some of my closest friends and fat liberationist allies are feedists. I know feedists who are way more educated and passionate about fat lib and body politics than most people I've met. choosing to gain weight on purpose as an act of self creation. because it feels Right for you. gaining weight to affirm the relationship you have with your body. getting fatter because you feel so much of your identity (even gender presentation!) is attached to your fat body. feeling sexiest when you're fat. someone else worshipping that about you. giving unlimited permission to nourish yourself and/or others - and taking carnal delight in it. releasing food rules and food guilt through centering pleasure. food and fatness as an erotic and sensory experience. finding feedist partners who also have this ingrained love of fatness that can't be replicated, partners who are willing and eager to support and adore your fat body, NOT merely tolerate it. reclaiming tropes used against you through kink, and turning a loving gaze inward. saying "fuck you" to the system and choosing to take up more space in a world that consistently tries to shrink you. never denying yourself pleasure even though everyone is telling you you don't deserve it. feedism is such an interesting facet of the endless spectrum of human sexuality and I think that once people in that community find liberation and heal their relationship to the kink, it can be one of the most radical forms of self acceptance and exercising complete bodily autonomy.

I already know that a love letter to feedism coming from a fat lib blog is gonna piss people off. I'm going to lose a lot of followers, I'm going to get a lot of hate. but. kink in general is SO demonized and SO misunderstood and as liberationists we should also be open to sexual liberation. so much of this discomfort around feedism comes from a lack of education and understanding about kink in general. feedism doesn't = fatphobia in the same way that bdsm doesn't = misogyny or abuse. quite the contrary, if practiced ethically, with informed consent. every community has assholes. especially when those communities are small, ostracized, and so young that there are next to zero resources for self acceptance, safety, education, and accountability. in fact, the assholes are the ones that you're going to SEE because every respectful person is staying away and out of your business. if you've been harassed by someone with a fat kink, that is so shitty and I'm sorry that happened to you. They talk about how if it was better, people like Jinx and Ekko could use their skills for good. This is the same place that’s a refuge for innovative, flamboyantly augmented outcasts to be able to make wonderful technology?

On top of that, the undercity is filled with negative stereotypes. Many of the characters are “bad” in some way, whether that be missing body parts, mentally damaged, filthy, an addict. Their food is tentacles, a drooling animal head, and a dish that looks very much like slugs in mud sauce (vs Piltover’s “normal” sandwich). Many of the people are all dressed punk/goth/sexy and look “dangerous”. This season, I expected them to address those stereotypes and show how Zaun has equal value to Piltover. That those differences don’t make people hateable or disgusting or deserving of their misery. Instead, we got “actions have consequences” theme and a dying man who suffered from chronic pain and mobility issues his entire life being told that his imperfections make him beautiful. (She-Ra did that line already and did it much better.) Because using tech/magic to fix his leg and spine strip him of his humanity.

The team have said they were specifically inspired by the current political climate in the US, specifically the two-party system within one nation divided and unable to reason with each other. But that is an entirely different and incompatible concept. Zaun literally doesn’t get a vote, and that kind of lack of political representation is literally why America rebelled against England. Its not as simple as them just talking it out or getting a single vote. And for me it explains why the conflict fizzled out in season 2 and felt so unresolved. I was expecting independence, which is the only solution to colonial oppression, but the creators gave us a fix for the political party problem they thought they were showing. We only got to see the Piltie’s viewpoint of Zaun, and it was unflattering specifically in the ways that are in real life associated classism, body shaming, and cultural shaming. They were never redeemed or validated, and almost everyone repeatedly proved the Pilties were right about them all along. In season 2, all the bad guys were Zaunites (Jinx, Viktor, Skye, Vanwick, Singed kind of) aided by a foreign power also trying to use them, and the solution was for them not to be part of their world anymore. They were too broken, too evil, too violent to remain. And for the rest, their only use was to die protecting the Pilties from one of their own people (whose autonomy wasn't even respected by his own partner and became his own worst nightmare). Instead of it being this glorious, Marvelesque fight where everyone bands together against one common enemy, it’s just another situation in which they are brutally exploited.

And I would genuinely be OK with all of this as some sort of tragic story that ended terribly for everyone and there was no real solution or progress, just more bloodshed. A tale of caution.

But the creators have been very clear that they feel that this is an appropriate ending to the story and the individual characters’ stories. Specifically, they are pushing this idea that the finale was to show the characters facing the consequences of their actions. But the characters themselves aren’t the problem, it’s the society that they are living in that basically corrupted everything it touched. Mel and the council manipulated and pressured Jayce and Viktor into making weapons instead of technology that was designed to help people, while also ignoring Viktor’s steadily worsening health problems that *they caused*. Vi and Jinx were repeatedly traumatized, orphaned, and weaponized. Cait literally got away with being a dictator, but even she was manipulated by someone who was only ever able to establish power by taking advantage of the situation. Singed (OG Piltie) literally committed war crimes and got everything he wanted. And according to the creators, everyone got what they deserved. Piltover received no punishment or retribution for their oppression. The undercity got no apology or redemption/validation. Piltover got no significant consequences. They’re still in power, still rich, still have Hextech, still oppressing the undercity. And I guess that's what they deserve.

What a load of absolute horseshit. I had a lot of expectations for season 2, but "the arcane team are actually Pilties in the worst way possible" was absolutely not one of them. I'm genuinely devastated.

I LOVE EMIL HIS CHARACTER CONCEPT IS FANTASTIC. The idea of being in a hierarchy were you are a lower rank in the system, but a higher ranked individual basically scruffs you and sits you on top of that hierarchy bc they love you? Top Tier.

I also sincerely appreciate your total lack of specification regarding the time period Emil rules. In one story, there's a old timey merchants guild, but photographs also exist?? Peak. The ability to put him in scenarios where both magic and technology can exist is perfect, especially for horn contexts.

You want feminization? You can put him in a slutty dress but add magic and Bam! Tits and pussy to match, baby!

You want hypno or dumbification? Substitute a pocket watch for a magical artifact that drains the brain, or a sci-fi brainwashing visor that can lock unto his face!

You wanna punish him? Pick between a high tech fucking machine, or a good old time in the stocks being a free use toy! Maybe even both?

Anyways, the possibilities are endless, and that's a good part of why I like Emil so much. Another part is just his demeanor. Literally only Ajax has anywhere NEAR as much ego as Emil, and even then, Ajax gets nervous and flustered pretty easy once you starting coming on strong.

Emil though, Emil stays smug. He's got the ego, but he also knows and accepts the fact that he'd like nothing more than to service you all day every day. He enjoys being dommed, and while you can get him flustered and crying, it takes work; it takes effort.

That, or it takes nothing at all. And that dichotomy enraptures me . He's so proud, but he's on his knees for you in front of the whole court the second you ask. He's so vicious, but he can handle you so gently. He's so strong and stoic that it can make him brittle, prone to snapping. He's so egocentric that he thinks you'll never pick anyone else, but seeing other people around you makes him jealous.

Anyways, all this to say you write amazingly complex characters and I love them. Can't wait for the Season 2 Boys!

tide was Literally Created To Be A Hero. thats . really all he is for a while. which means he is VERY GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES. GOD. cannot state enough just how much i think the elementals should be like. forces of nature (ha) but like. especially tide and magma. you see them in a fight and the instinct driven lizard monkey brain goes "oh fuck oh shit im in danger time to go into fight or flight mode"

that being said i dont think they really .. synergize with anyone outside of each other. there are different reasons for each of them but i think like… the reason the elementals were so successful in their time is because they work REALLY FUCKING WELL together (because theyre all clones of one guy so technically theyre the same person but theyre NOT but you get what i mean). they are all equals with each other but not necessarily with other people. so i think.. when the elementals were all together i think they almost always worked as a team and not much with anyone else, but after they broke apart… i think tide and magma stay pretty solo for their respective endbringers. they might team up with each other occasionally or when theyre against simurgh (im thinkin they can do really fun things with steam clouds) but other than that theyre kind of on their own. well. magma i think works with seismic a lot when he shows up. but he doesnt always show up. remind me after this to expand on the current elementals dynamic bc god i think about them a lot.

all this to say i think tide works solo most of the time and he has his reasons for it but i think that makes it even more impactful when he eventually starts teaming up w mark in fights (ooough tidalwave forever)

ros helped me out w the classification we've i think decided on shaker/mover for him . also like. thinker 1 wetsuit powers which is mostly a joke but also i kind of want it to be serious bcause it would be funny for ME . also im really bad at the number system so im not assigning him numbers. hes sooo powerful though. not enough that he can take on an endbringer ALONE bc that would be insane. but enough that he can fight leviathan for like. 10-20 unbroken minutes and not get immediately killed

Hydrokinesis: pretty. obvious i guess. mans can control water. i thiiiink for now this is gonna be limited to liquid water and not ice. maybe in conjunction with someone elses power they could freeze his water but i dont think hed be able to control it much after that i think it would just keep whatever momentum it had before. also i think he is limited to liquids that are almost entirely water? as much as i love the potential of bloodbender tide i dont see a way to like. write him actually using that without it being sooooo so so awful and not in a fun way. but with things that r like… mixtures? solutions? whatever? as long as theyre mostly water i think he can partially control them. not as strong as water but he can. control the water In Them but but the Substance. does that mean anything? im thinking abt the part in burn your bridges where he uses whatever liquid was in the tubes to slow their falls. but he didnt like. use it to carry them to a stretcher or anything he just made sure they didnt faceplant onto the concrete.

Breathing underwater: also self explanatory. mans got gills. i like the idea of each of the clones having veryyyyy minor physical alterations. tides got gills and little fins. magmas got weird colored eyes and stone (lava rock) skin in a few places.

enhanced movement in water: i think this is partially because he can control water, he can use it to propel himself in whatever direction. create currents if hes fully underwater and stuff. i think he can make it through leviathans storm pretty easily. well,,, not easily because he cant really do anything about wind. but the rain/waves dont affect him as bad as they would other capes . also he can do the cool thing he can do in canon where he like. surfs on a wave. i rlly like that visual.

I had to look it up but Shela is BlasterDame from New Mutants: Lethal Legion. Super gross how her parents are attempting to use the police/machinery of state to deny her personhood and gender identity (and let's be honest, endangering her life. Don't call the cops, especially not on trans kids.) It's cool that she's able to use her real name as a shield against the parents she's clearly gone no contact with. My worry increased a lot here. Even just giving up her location would be dangerous AF and against her wishes, and The Avengers work closely with cops.

Not sure of this kid's deal, but this one panel conveys a lot about his life so far. Tony Stark would probably ruin this kid's life by handing him over, Cap too depending on who's writing him. I can categorically say that being arrested for any of those warrants would be a terrible thing. He is shitting bricks, and it's sad that he expects to be in jail soon. See that's beautiful. This does more good for humanity than a dozen punched bad guys. Unconditional support, protection and advocacy, community building. Yeah it's work to be there for queer/runaway/disadvantaged kids, a lot of work. It's not a problem you can punch and you're up against systemic Sisyphean forces pushing the other way. But traumatized kids without support will sink - providing them with it is truly superheroic.

Every team or institution in Marvel has failed at this time and again. In a world where the hero/villain paradigm is the norm they're basically guaranteeing that they'll be fighting that kid once they grow up - they'll remember asking for help and getting turned away or handed over to abusive parents/cops. It's the same IRL but Carol Danvers isn't going to show up for you. A surly dude with knives for hands isn't going to teach you self defense (probably.) Even in the comic it's only kids with powers getting this break.

It's a lot to ask of anyone but being aware isn't hard. Bare minimum just don't call the police bc they don't help people, especially minorities and marginalized kids. Try to keep in mind that a lot of people had different opportunities to you, and/or are dealing with things you can't imagine. I have experienced a lot of this, and the people who called the police on me for being homeless probably don't know the damage they did.

that is such a good point about bcs being a cautionary tale about fake robin hoods who exploit the underprivileged for their own gain, while positioning themselves as saviours of the downtrodden. even Kim I would argue is an example of this, i don’t think she started public defender work out of the good of her heart, i think she did it because she wanted to feel like a good person, and feel like a warrior for the disenfranchised. she also uses her “good deeds” to justify her scheme against Howard (and I bet she saw herself as an underdog getting revenge on the privileged). she sees herself and jimmy as underdogs hurt by the system, when the reality they are two middle class (and getting steadily richer) white people who get opportunities the truly disenfranchised would never get. and jimmy was just handed his job by his brother who got him out of jail for a crime he was guilty of. jimmy sees himself as an underdog too, and he’s obsessed with getting money and power so he can be more powerful than the people who look down on him. but he doesn’t care about his clients, who really are disenfranchised, he just uses them to make money off of them. and then he saw Walt as an opportunity to get to money and power he jumped at it.

I think on some level Kim does care about doing what's right and fighting for the disfranchised though, I don't think it's all an excuse for her. I think she really wants to be that person because she really sees value in justice and fairness, see: how she idolized Atticus Finch.

But that desire to do good is in conflict with the greater pull she feels toward criminal shenanigans and fucking with other people, especially those she thinks that "deserve" it.

Jimmy on the other hand is much more open about being self oriented - I think it's pretty clear from the get go that he's doing what he does for himself and that he looks down on his clients, especially those he sees as low life criminals. I think he can relate better to other middle class white people that were "screwed by the system" but he absolutely looks down on his clients when he's Saul Goodman (because those criminals "deserve it" so he feels no remorse about making money off them).

If we're going to draw a comparison between both of their arcs, I think jimmysaul's is much better constructed. Kim's is more convoluted and you can come away with different interpretations.

My biggest issue with all of that is that it's not clear how much the show is aware of it and how much is meant to be a criticism of these "robin hood-like" figures. Like I don't know how much the show agrees with the idea that saul's clients deserve what's coming for them because they're all criminals anyway.

Its like fifteen minutes at most places, it can be hours at the most repressed areas. But even then, a few hours to choose who is the guy you'll be dealing with for four years is a pretty solid deal! I've been an activist in every conceivable way for almost two decades, and there's almost none of them that give you as much bang for your buck, especially without risk of prison.

morgana wanted uther dead first and foremost. morgana saw that uther delusional rule is causing more harm than good. She had run out of options to counter him. S2 showed how much she bargained, pleaded, used the system, used her priviliege, anything just to get the king to listen. She had no allies in court, no one powerful or magic-inclined publicly on her side. What was she supposed to do in the face of the tyranny and injustice? She already knew she had magic. She was scared for her life. Merlin and Gaius shunned her and made her think she was mad. Ofc she'd turn to the radicals who offered her a way out. There was no more option left. Morgana had to take up arms. No one else was showing her a way out of the misery under Uther's rule.

Merlin, Arthur and Guinevere already knew how energetic, how spitfire, how driven she could be as well as her kindness and justice. She always used her privilege to help others even before Arthur did. But tell me. If you were in her place. If you watched the people of camelot not bat an eye when the king ordered children, their neighbors, innocent people to die, would you have still wished the best for camelot? i ask that in your heart. what would you do to the city who would just allow the king to murder innocents, your friend's father or YOU DEAD just for existing?

What was needed for merlin, especially merlin was to, really show morgana THAT HE UNDERSTOOD. THAT SHE WAS NOT ALONE. THAT SHE WAS NOT CRAZY. THAT HER HATE FOR UTHER WAS JUSTIFIED BUT HER METHODS ARE NOT. but did he ever do thi in s2? NO. HE DIDNT.

Look I don't want Merlin to exactly be like her. But Morgana was still human, she deserved to be given the truth, she deserved to feel bitter, to be angry, to feel hate and resentment, to be told that someone IN CAMELOT really truly did understand her and can help in a concrete and tangible way. She needed to be assured that the injustice will stop in a definite way. She needed to understand that Merlin was working for a definite (?) goal and not just stopping her in the name of "Friendship." Morgana was and has always been fighting against the State, against systemic injustice. Friendship and Love aren't enough gravitas for her to stop the fight anymore.

Morgana was scared for her life jfc. She didn't want to die for being who she was. She felt alone. She needed someone WITH MAGIC to console her. It's the least anyone could have ever done. BUT OUR PROTAGONIST HAVE BEEN WARNED REPEATEDLY NOT TO TREAT HER KINDLY. THEY TOOK HER AGENCY AWAY FROM HER AND SHIELDED HER FROM THE TRUTH.

With their quirk, can they actually cure a disease assuming they know everything about it? I know you said they can control them, but is it permanent? So let's say for example, someone has a chronic illness. Let's take Asthma maybe, or heart disease. Could Sora cure these things? Or just lessen their effects? And I'm glad you were able to relate to my character, I myself (while not a hypochondriac) am a sort of germphobe, but I do have my moments where I freak out and think I'm going to die over something small.

Also, I'm AceAro, so I never really thought about shipping before since romance isn't always my ideal situation, but I'm not against it at all! If anyone were to ship my characters with each other or with an MHA character, I'd totally allow it since they're most likely just having fun (minus the kids, that might get a little weird).

If there is a new disease, they naturally wouldn't know much about it. But if they do, it wouldn't matter if it was new or not, they'd still be able to use their quirk on it

They cannot completely eradicate a disease, they can only control it. There is a loophole, though. Say Sora is trying to help a cancer patient. For those that don't know, cancer cells are normal human cells that mutated and went uncontrolled. Since they can control disease how they wish with enough information on it, they could force the cancerous cells to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death). Or they could mess with the diseased cells homeostasis or osmotic pressure, and make them burst or crumple inwards. Or they could do the opposite and make sick cells healthy again.

If there overall isn't much data on a disease and they happen to know the small amount that was discovered, they'd still not be able to do anything, since they need a vast understanding of the disease.

They're quirk greatly ties with their mental knowledge and state

To answer your questions, say there's a kid with asthma (like you asked). They can only control the disease, but not the damage already done. If they know a lot about asthma, they could prevent it while the person is near them so the patient can undergo treatment, or thi could prevent it from getting worse if the patient wasn't going to get treatment at the time (with the wide world of quirks, I'd imagine there's going to be numerous medical advancements and techniques)

I’m not even a Swiftie, but the way people criticize Taylor Swift compared to other artists says a lot about how misogyny has adapted and evolved, especially among casual music listeners. Taylor is constantly dragged through the mud for things that other artists—who are often worse, both musically and personally—get away with unscathed. The double standard is glaring, and it’s worth unpacking why that is.

It’s easier to dogpile on Taylor Swift because she fits neatly into a cultural narrative of privilege: a wealthy, white woman who seemingly represents the epitome of “mainstream success.” Calling her out for perceived flaws—real or exaggerated—feels “safe” because it doesn’t challenge deeper systemic issues or risk being seen as offensive to marginalized groups. 5. Does your OC have a signature weapon and/or attack? How long did they train to master it?

while it can use a variety of weapons, grimm's best with a revolver. their ideal fight is one where they don't get hurt, so they got really good with a gun over the years to keep as much distance between them and anyone wanting to cause damage. it didn't deliberately seek to get really good with its revolver in particular, but it's a small enough gun and doesn't take up much space on its person, so its skill is a combination of deliberate training/target practice and years of familiarity

grimm's not the sentimental sort, but the gun itself is meaningful to them; i haven't teased out the exact history behind it or if it has several guns over the years, but the gun is symbolic of the "freedom" they earned for themself as well. it takes care of its few belongings.

(i model theirs off a smith & wesson .44 magnum 29 for literally no reason, i just think the shape looked neat. also i've been drawing the holster on their right thigh when they're left-handed so i'm torn between drawing the holster on the left thigh now or making them ambidextrous when they shoot. i dunno)

and then, of course, there is also the

i talked abt grimm n wrench awhile ago here (which you prolly remember bc you asked that hgkdfhl) as far as that goes everything there is still canon for the time being. aside from scars, wrench is really the only thing grimm still has from the several years they spent under the thumb of the casimir family. i think a word is escaping me here because while they were a bodyguard, they were also part of a group of humods trained to carry out all sorts of dirty work for the family from tracking people down, intimidating adversaries, finishing people off, etc. etc.

as it stands in my mind now, there were five coyote humods all outfit with their own dogs who formed a "pack". i've yet to figure out how close this group was because on one hand, they're all enduring the same shit, but on the other hand it would be in the interest of the casimir family to keep their small unit of well-trained attack dogs bickering and fighting with one another instead of banding together. they were together for....~3ish years? give or take and trained with/against one another

the armor/animal tech is uncommon, especially in the desert where machines in general are uncommon, so while this is a sort of "signature" thing only grimm and a few others can do, i don't think they've mastered it, especially since it goes about a decade or so without resorting to using wrench in that way. it's more of a "use only in dire circumstances" sort of thing. but the muscle memory is still there

i answered this one here ages ago [dies on the floor] BUT grimm's internal belief system is a fascinating thing so. let's take a little walk. for a very long time, grimm believes the world is apathetic, that everything and everyone only cares about fulfilling the base impulse to survive, and the only thing that can guarantee your own survival is yourself. it is an animal, and part of the food chain, and it will make itself into a hunter before being hunted.

at the same time, it travels, it knows things like friends and love and family exist in this world, and what people do in the names of them. but it's not a person anymore, it's an animal, and it's not practical to think about what could have been, so it doesn't.

now, yarrow is not the first person to treat grimm like a person, but the way he did—and does—it without really thinking, consistently, rattles grimm, who never expected it in the first place. and so grimm falls in love.

which, it does believe in love. but love to it is a death more than a joy, a disfigurement of the self into whatever the person you love wants you to be, because you're an animal only pretending to be a person. of course yarrow doesn't really know about any of this, and grimm slowly realizes there's nothing yarrow is asking them to be aside from themself and they slowly, slowly begin to reconfigure their belief in love as something that can be good, not a chain. except grimm's perception of love is scrambled so it never quite separates love from unerring devotion

this is such a fascinating question to me bc grimm n yarrow's beliefs change over the course of the story, and in no small part because of one another (i'd argue grimm's is more bc of yarrow directly and yarrow's is more from their own experiences, which they never would have had if not for grimm), so it's sometimes difficult for me to pin down beliefs of theirs that remain fully consistent. i think the most broad way of putting it is yarrow believes people are all we have in this world and grimm believes in you are the only thing you have, but at the same time, yarrow hesitates to trust people with himself past a certain level of closeness, and grimm will trust itself in the hands of someone who treats it well
