I remember one time I was at a pop culture/Sci-Fi convention and there was a little girl who didn't want to go down the escalator. She was probably 6 or 7. So I guess kind of old to be afraid of the escalator, but people develop at different speeds.
She was crying, and her mother was yelling at her, telling her to stop being a baby. Honestly, the mother was making as much of a scene as the kid, blocking the escalator. Finally, the mother said, "Whatever. I'm leaving you. You can either go down the escalator, or stay up. I don't care." And then she went down the escalator.
My husband and I needed to go down the escalator, and here was this little girl still crying standing by it. So I bent down and was like, "Hey, do you think you could go down the escalator if I held your hand and helped you?" And the kid sniffled and nodded her head. So I grabbed onto her hand, and we went down. Right at the end, I said, "Big jump! We're going off!" and helped her step off. She'd stopped crying by this time, and I could just see her mother in the distance, and I told her, "There you go. Good job! There's your mom, you can catch up with her."
She ran off to catch her mom.
And I just keep thinking, if someone like me, who doesn't want or have kids, who, just like OP, doesn't particularly like kids, can take a simple step to be kind to a kid and help them down the escalator like that, then why the fuck couldn't her mother? It wasn't a big thing that she needed to go down the escalator, just someone reassuring her and holding her hand. Hell, maybe she could have done it on her own if her mother had reassured her and told her about how big, brave, and mature she could be. But instead, her mom chose to yell at her.
I just don't get it.
I’m an “I do not like children” person but not an “I hate children” person. I do not want a child. I do not particularly like being in the company of small children. I am not interested in babysitting. I do not think society’s view on procreating being necessary to fulfill one’s life is healthy. But I think kids are people too and they deserve all the resources, time and attention they need to successfully grow. I think the welfare of children is fundamental to society. I smile at babies in public. I try to be sympathetic if a child is having a meltdown in public. I think being cruel to children is one of the worst things a human can do.
This puts me in a strange middle ground because I absolutely cannot get along with the “I love babies, I need to have kids, my kids are my world, having children is sooo beautiful, the world should cater to children always” crowd or the “I think children are like disgusting little rats, I hate them, they’re subhuman” crowd.

The painting looks like oriental art. In Obelia this must be a Siodonnian woman I suppose. It's the kind of painting that would fit more in the Ruby Palace than the Alpheus residence.

The outrage for the gender swapping by the black community is justified in my opinion. Using a monoracial darkskin black woman as the gender swapped version of a white man is downright malicious. We have been facing constant racism if we're given some role that is desired especially on netflix. And there has been an ongoing trend (a pattern mainly us black women have noticed) to use the darkskin black woman as the queer character that's also masculine (or the sassy best friend, the mammy type, oversexualised). The actress will not only be a subject to homophobes but the not so quiet racists that plague most fandoms these days. It's quite funny when a white man is seen chasing after a 'black' woman, she is a light skinned biracial (Ruby Barker in season 1 who was still subjected to racism and was given a storyline was quickly written off the show).
i mean sure and i'm not trying to be rude here but have you actually looked at who is complaining the loudest about this? it's almost exclusively white women (mostly straight at that) who are specifically really mad because "the best guy" was taken away for "diversity." i'm not discounting that the racial politics of this show are wild and god awful but
they've been like that since season one and got significantly worse with it by treating the sharmas and young danbury Like That, this casting doesn't really change that or make it more obvious, it's just more of the same weird tone deaf shit
michael doesn't do anything particularly heinous but he is a dime a dozen rogue with a heart of gold in an incredibly typical regency romance, and i understand why they've decided to change that a bit when their whole schtick is diversity and stunt casting. the complaints are all about how michael is the best and it's silly because he literally makes several comments about baby trapping francesca, he's not any better than benedict or anthony or simon (he IS better than colin and phillip tho but that's not a high bar to clear).
i don't think fandoms being racist or queerphobic is a good enough reason to never include queer black women in these stories? it's about whether the production team and the cast stick up for her as the harassment inevitably ramps up. i do understand feeling like this poor actress is being thrown to the wolves (especially because shonda doesn't have a particularly great track record with this and ruby barker has talked about how upsetting it was to do the show) but i think if the cast and production make a good faith effort to defend her and warned her to like, turn off her comments on social media, there's no reason to bend to the complaints of racists and queerphobes if you want to tell a regency romp story with a black queer main.
cannot stress enough that the bulk of the criticism is bad faith nonsense using the word "diversity" like a slur against black women and queer women because the white women that watch this show don't want to see two women kissing and That was the backlash i was talking about. i'm sure there Are people talking about the colorist and generally annoying way they like to racebend the characters, but i also feel that acting like the bulk of the criticism is good faith when it so clearly is just straight white women having a breakdown is silly.
also.....can we not use square quotes around the word black when talking about a black biracial actress, it's weird. just say black and biracial, or black and light skinned.

i feel like the thing that needs to be recognized is that the books being banned right now are not those beloved books that people use to say "how could anybody ban [name recognition classic/ modern classic novel]" it's the shitty YA books that happen to discuss real things that real teens do that conservatives don't like. it's easy to get outraged at the idea of people banning 1984 but those YA books about being gay that you've never heard of before are the ones that need your attention. They need somebody to care about them besides the assholes taking them away.

I'm probably gonna word this a little weirdly but taking a character of color and changing their race isn't cool ever, even if they're still Not White. If I take Aisha and make her South Asian instead of black, that's not adding representation, it's erasing black representation.
If I take Musa and make her anything but Asian, that's not representation for someone else, it's erasure. Same thing for Flora, Nabu, and every other character of color in winx.
I understand that some of the characters are more ambiguous than others - I'm not mad that a child would see Flora as asian or Nabu as a black man - but if you're an adult? Fully aware of their intentional coding? And Still deciding to change their races? Like?? Please have some self awareness. We already have to fight hard for representation. You don't get to take it away.

What do you make of the "not liking jc/ calling yzy abisive is racist" bullshit? Brought to you by the person who straight up lied about the function of ancestral halls.
Look, I’m Black. I can talk every day of every year about racism in fandom. I can talk all day about racism in this fandom. It’s in how people consume content created by creators of color while disparaging said creators and their cultures and their knowledge of their own cultures. It’s in how characters of color are treated like fetishes or dirt, no in-between, and pointing it out is grounds for harassment. It’s about how fans of color are chased out of fandom spaces for not falling in line with the most popular opinions. It’s how some fans of color would rather throw the rest of us under the bus for white approval than either admit that they don’t hold the popular view or just stay out of a discussion they do not understand.
Uwu tsundere!jc and tiger mom!yzy are some of the MOST popular fanons in mdzs, but somehow saying that this isn’t canon (and is actually offensive but—) is racism. This is racist, but not bullying fans of color who don’t like these characters, calling us racist for sticking to canon, calling Chinese fans from the country and in the diaspora fake for saying that this is fanon, and also arguing that Chinese culture just “naturally” celebrates child abuse is the “true racism” that these people are trying to protect fandom from?
Hm
#mdzs#(this is just me ranting now none if this is directed at you anon)#i know what person you’re talking about and i already have them blocked#cause the way people will throw ‘racism’ around in fandom#WHILE ENGAGING IN IT#and also bully people talking about actual racism happening in fandom spaces?#pisses me tf off#newsflash: a poc having an opinion on something and someone else disagreeing is not racism#saying whipping children is child abuse isn’t racism just because a character of color is doing it#ESPECIALLY IF THE AUTHOR OF COLOR THEMSELF SAYS IT’S ABUSE#a Chinese woman wrote a Chinese novel with Chinese characters and gave her readers the tools to understand what to celebrate or scorn#child abuse was not one of those things to celebrate#carrying hatred in your heart for all your life just because you’re mad at a person YOU murdered was not a point of celebration#and liking any of those characters does not make you a more moral person than the author OR the readers who don’t like their fanon versions#there’s no moral ground for liking/disliking a character#but how you justify your like/dislike? yeah i judge this fandom so heavy for that#anyways this is why people need to learn to form their own opinions#and stop following whatvthe crowd or most popular people say#because big accounts like THAT will have y’all out here looking stupid#just cause you don’t wanna look wrong because they’re acting like they care about social justice#no they care about guilting people into following their bullshit#leave people like that in the gutter where they belong#anon#mdzs asks

The GOP wonders why young people (and others) don't want to vote for them. Some wise scribe assembled this list.
1.) Your Reagan-era “trickle-down economics” strategy of tax breaks for billionaires that you continue to employ to this day has widened the gap between rich and poor so much that most of them will never be able to own a home, much less earn a living wage.
2.) You refuse to increase the federal minimum wage, which is still $7.25 an hour (since 2009). Even if it had just kept up with inflation, it would be $27 now. You’re forcing people of all ages but especially young people to work multiple jobs just to afford basic necessities.
3.) You fundamentally oppose and want to kill democracy; have done everything in your power to restrict access to the ballot box, particularly in areas with demographics that tend to vote Democratic (like young people and POC). You staged a fucking coup the last time you lost.
4.) You have abused your disproportionate senate control over the last three decades to pack the courts with religious extremists and idealogues, including SCOTUS—which has rolled back rights for women in ways that do nothing but kill more women and children and expand poverty.
5.) You refuse to enact common sense gun control laws to curb mass shootings like universal background checks and banning assault weapons; subjecting their entire generation to school shootings and drills that are traumatizing in and of themselves. You are owned by the NRA.
6.) You are unequivocally against combatting climate change to the extent that it’s as if you’ve made it your personal mission to ensure they inherit a planet that is beyond the point of no return in terms of remaining habitable for the human race beyond the next few generations.
7.) You oppose all programs that provide assistance to those who need it most. Your governors refused to expand Medicaid even during A PANDEMIC. You are against free school lunches, despite it being the only meal that millions of children can count on to actually receive each day
8.) You are banning books, defunding libraries, barring subject matter, and whitewashing history even more in a fascistic attempt to keep them ignorant of the systemic racism that this nation was literally founded upon and continues to this day in every action your party takes.
9.) You oppose universal healthcare and are still trying to repeal the ACA and rip healthcare from tens of millions of Americans and replace it with nothing. You are against lowering the cost of insulin and prescription drugs that millions need simply to LIVE/FUNCTION in society.
10.) You embrace white nationalists, Neo-Nazis, and other groups that are defined by their intractable racism, xenophobia, bigotry, and intolerance. You conspired with these groups on January 6th to try to overthrow the U.S. government via domestic terrorism that KILLED PEOPLE.
11.) You oppose every bill aimed at making life better for our nation’s youth; from education to extracurricular and financial/nutritional assistance programs. You say you want to “protect the children” while you elect/nominate pedophiles and attack trans youth and drag queens.
12.) You pretend to be offended by “anti-semitism” while literally supporting, electing, and speaking at events organized by Nazis. You pretend to hate “cancel culture” despite the fact that you invented it and it’s basically all you do.
13.) Every word you utter is a lie. You are the party of treason, hypocrisy, crime, and authoritarianism. You want to entrench rule by your aging minority because you know that you have nothing to offer young voters and they will never support you for all these reasons and more.
14.) You’re so hostile to even the notion of helping us overcome the mountain of debt that millions of us are forced to take on just to pay for our post K-12 education that you are suing to try to prevent a small fraction of us from getting even $10,000 in loan forgiveness.
15.) You opened the floodgates of money into politics via Citizens United; allowing our entire system of government to become a cesspool of corruption, crime, and greed. You are supposed to represent the American people whose taxes pay your salary but instead cater to rich donors.
16.) You respond to elected representatives standing in solidarity with their constituents to protest the ONGOING SLAUGHTER of children in schools via shootings by EXPELLING THEM FROM OFFICE & respond to your lack of popularity among young people by trying to raise the voting age.
17.) You impeach Democratic presidents over lying about a BJ but refuse to impeach (then vote twice to acquit) a guy whose entire “administration” was an international crime syndicate being run out of the WH who incited an insurrection to have you killed.
18.) You steal Supreme Court seats from democrats to prevent the only black POTUS we’ve ever had from appointing one and invent fake precedents that you later ignore all to take fundamental rights from Americans; and even your “legitimate” appointments consist of people like THIS (sub-thread refuting CJ Roberts criticisms of people attacking SCOTUS' legitimacy).
19.) You support mass incarceration even for innocuous offenses or execution by cop for POC while doing nothing but protect rich white criminals who engage in such things as tax fraud, money laundering, sex trafficking, rape/sexual assault, falsifying business records, etc.
20.) You are the reason we can’t pass:—Universal background checks—An assault weapons ban—The ‘For the People/Freedom to vote’ Act or John Lewis Voting Rights Act—The ERA & Equality Act—The Climate Action Now Act—The (Stopping) Violence Against Women Act—SCOTUS expansion.
21.) You do not seek office to govern, represent, or serve the American people. You seek power solely for its own sake so you can impose your narrow-minded puritanical will on others at the expense of their most fundamental rights and freedoms like voting and bodily autonomy.
22.) Ok, last one. You are trying to eliminate social security and Medicare that tens of millions of our parents rely on and paid into their entire lives. And you did everything to maximize preventable deaths from COVID leaving millions of us in mourning.

I see a lot of incomprehension online about our pension reform and the anger it generates in France, and what it often boils down to is "why are they so angry, 64 is plenty young to retire?"
I don't agree, but even if I did I would still oppose the reform. Here are some of the reasons why:
We already need 43 full years of work and tax contributions to be able to retire. Which means college-educated people were never going to retire at 64 anyway, let alone 62. This reform is aimed at people who start working early, mostly in low-paying jobs.
There's very little provision made in this law for hard/dangerous/manual labour.
There's no provision made for women who stop working to raise their children (51% of women already retire without a "complete career," which means they only retire on a partial pension, vs. 25% of men).
At 64, 1/3 of the poorest workers will already be dead. In France, between the richest and the poorest men, there's a 13 years gap in life expectancy.
Beyond life expectancy, at that age a lot of people (especially poorer, non-college educated) have too many health-related issues to be able to work. Not only is it cruel to ask them to work longer, if they can't work at all that's two more years to hold on with no pension
Unemployment in France is still fairly high (7%). Young people already have a hard time finding work, and this is going to make things even harder for them
Macron cut taxes on the rich and lost the country around 16 Billions € in tax revenue. Our estimated pension deficit should peak at 12 Billions worst case scenario.
While I'm on wealth redistribution (no, not soviet style, but I think there should be a cap on wealth concentration. Nobody needs to be a billionaire.): some of the massive profits of last year should go to workers and to the state to be redistributed, including to fund pensions. The state subsidized companies and corporations during the pandemic, Macron even said "no matter the cost" and spent 206 Billions € on businesses. Now he's going after the poorest workers in the country for an hypothetical 12 Billions??
Implicit in all of this is the question of systemic racism. French workers from immigrant families are already more likely to have started their careers early, to have low-paying jobs, are less likely to be college-educated, more at risk for disabilities and chronic illnesses, etc., so this is going to disproportionately affect them
This is not even touching on the fact that he didn't let lawmakers vote on it, meaning he knew he wouldn't get a majority of votes in parliament, or that 70% of the population is against this law. Pushing it through anyway is blatant authoritarianism.
TL;DR: This is only tangentially about retirement age. The reform will make life harder for people with low incomes, or with no higher education, for manual workers, for women—mothers especially, for POC, for people with disabilities or chronic conditions, etc. This is about solidarity.
Hope (sincerely) this helps.

I was writing about this in the tags but no it deserves its own post. Like putting aside how uncomfortable it was and how creepy it was towards Aidan and how it’s against Five’s character and blah blah blah. Five and Lila’s storyline was incredibly sexist. I am too tired to go too in depth on this so if anyone wants to add anything then please do. It is 10pm and this is hastily written but I just want you all to understand how fucking angry I am
Lila starts out as this badass female assassin. She has a really strong character and personality and although she’s seen as a part of Diego’s storyline in s2 she very much feels like her own character and she integrates into Hargreeves like a new main character
S4 just… She’s a mother of three kids which is objectively fine I guess?? Like making her a mother was kinda sexist but they could’ve made it work. But it’s been six years and she doesn’t have a job. They turn her into a stay at home mother which was unnecessary. And almost her entire storyline revolves around Five. They don’t delve into her relationship with her parents even though they were dead. You barely see them. So much of what she does was the writers setting the scene so her and Five can get together. She starts looking into The Keepers so she can bump into Five and then have that scene in the cafe. She is unpleased with her marriage so she can get with Five. She wants to explore the subway system and try to time travel back to fix the timeline so that she can get lost in there with Five. It’s actually so foul. I am so disgusted. She argues with Five and says that it’s not about him and Five says that it is about him. They then make Five out as some like kicked puppy. Her reuniting with Diego has Five standing right there looking all sad. Her reuniting with her kids also has Five standing there all ‘woe is me.’ He then has his whole sulking on the train bit like they try SO hard to make you feel sorry for him. Her saying goodbye to her kids also has Five standing right there and then as she’s crying in his arms he leans his head into her hair like he owns her or something and seems almost happy after seeing her have to abandon her fucking children. And then right at the end as they’re about to die Lila goes and holds his hand to make him feel better
Lila was such a cool and complex character and it was really refreshing to see a woman especially a woc be morally grey and they threw it all away
They made a poc woman’s character arc revolve entirely around a white man for a conventional cishet romance that nobody wanted and actively harmed the actors on the show. They turned her into Five’s little plaything so Steve could live out his perverted fantasy of Five having a wife and I am utterly disgusted by it

Kids can't play outside because there's always one adult that doesn't like it.
Kids play in a public park, the park rangers get complaint from rich assholes that don't like that Kids who go to a public park aren't from their neighborhood.
Kids playing on a basketball court but some guy didn't like the noise so he filed a complaint now no one can play in it.
Kids decide to hang out in a library. They get chased out after a certain time in the afternoon.
Kids go to a mall to just meet up and talk, they get the cops called on them for loitering.
Kids just walking down a street and someone on some neighborhood watch Facebook page reports of some suspicious young people walking around.
Kids can't go outside because you made it difficult for them to exist outside. Of course they're on their phones because that's the only way they can socialise with their friends without the authority of someone looming over their shoulder and outside of school.
"We use to go down the street to some Cafe and-" Yeah well the owners think kids sitting in front of their stores are equal to flies so guess what your kids are going to do.
There's no space for kids anymore. Kids frequenting the internet more is because there's nowhere else for them to go meet friends. Yes, perhaps phones have made some social impact on kids, and maybe we did fuck up the newest generation by giving them internet access, but it's not like there's a better alternative when adults have made it so clear that their existence is a nuisance towards the world.
"Kids playing outside is so rare. This is what it's like before cellphones-"
Kids always played outside doofus it came free with wanting physical social contact. You guys just made it difficult for kids to do anything

My POV as a Black fan that thinks Dot and Bubble's racism commentary is trash
Rewatched Dot and Bubble and I'm gonna break down from my POV as a Black fan why this episode didn't work for me & why it's an awful racism commentary. Long arse post incoming:
The whole "You should've noticed the cast was all white except for fifteen ha your bias is showing" doesn't work for a show that's been predominantly white for 60+ years. D&B casting has been the default for most of the show so its not abnormal enough to be a racial litmus test. An example is the Matt Smith era The only reoccurring character of colour in s5 (2+ appearances) is Liz 10. Artie n Angie in s7. 0 in s6. RTD's own era isn't fully safe either. For many eps Martha or Mickey are the *only* Black characters. Most POC are side characters or extras.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
White fans should be aware of the predominantly white casting of the show but this late in the game feels cheap. Most of the show has gone through 100% white episodes including fan faves and it was never an issue back then bc it was beneficial. This is so hollow. Representing racists as cartoon caricatures SEVERLY underestimates the danger of white supremacy irl. White supremacy is system designed and constructed and rebranded over centuries. It is not accidental. People aren't racist bc they don't know they're racist because they *do* They know the system that oppresses POC, Black people especially, benefits them socially and financially and that is why they participate. Its not stupidity it's intention. That should've been the Finetime core not Lindy goofing around bc the arrows are gone or some shit.
Human Nature showed us racist young people that exercised this power bc they knew this. They may be children but they are still dangerous bc of their views. Martha knew this. The silly tech obsessed gen z angle erases this danger and that of actual gen z white supremacy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of the camp goofy tone we could've gotten a serious focused episode. The slugs and millenial/gen z social media silly distracts from what could've been the main theme of colonisation instead of saving it for 10 mins of exposition at the end & scattering microaggressions. Saving Fifteen's racism scene for a goofy episode was a horrid idea. Spending 30 mins on representing racism as silliness then giving a dramatic dangerous score is the definition of tonal whiplash. Representing his oppressor as a blonde bimbo again does not take this seriously. Fifteen went to 1960s BRITAIN & got through it unscathed. Finetime is a fictional futuristic land but the racism of 1960s Britain was real. If anytime was right it could've been Devil's Chord. Distancing yourself from a panto villain is easy but addressing your history is hard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scene itself is incredibly performed so I'll give Ncuti his flowers but what he used this skill for could've been so much more. Having his FIRST SCENE begging to save a racist is disgusting. It isn't Black people's responsibility to show compassion to people that want us dead. Yes the Doctor helps the baddies bc they care. But they're aren't ignorant to prejudice. The liberal anti racism of who is so jarring and why I still think Thin Ice is performative. When white people are angry at injustice it's radical. When it's Black people we're aggressive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Respectability politics is a tool of white supremacy. That if one pleads and is nice enough they can earn liberation. What would white fans think of Fifteen if he DIDN'T beg Lindy? If your allyship with Black people depends on showing kindness to racists you are NOT an ally.
Next up is Ricky. It was established ALL Finetime citizens have white supremacist views yet Ricky September stans refuse to see him in any negative light. Just like Joan Redfern white dw fans refuse to see racism if a character is likeable. If nice guy Ricky's a racist, then anyone no matter the niceness can be racist too and that's a pill white fans aren't ready to swallow. If racism is systemic and not about individual character, then what's keeping them safe? What happens when YOU are under the microscope.
THIS is why we NEED Black writers in Doctor Who. The nuances, depth and complexity of the Black experience can only be told at it's best by Black creatives and not guessed, assumed or spoken over by white fans and white writers. It's okay to put ego aside and say you don't get it.
"Im white but I loved the Doctor's reaction" "I'm white and i thought the racism commentary was great" "I'm white but i-" Yet again, we have to sit through another round of white and non Black fans of colour dictating Black representation for us. I'm so fucking tired man. AGAIN IM YELLING FROM MY HILLTOP TO WATCH SHOWS BY BLACK WRITERS. Almost EVERY single theme in Dot and Bubble and frankly most of the show has been done WAY better in other media. RTD is not the authority on Black stories. We are. Always have been and always will.
Tl;dr Dot and Bubble is an unserious and tacky racism commentary. It's core message is drowned by more RTD Who camp. Don't tell me this episode was good at representating my own experience. It wasn't. S15 having Black writers isn't a need it's a must. Goodbye.
Reblog this version pls

Been wondering what the culture of magic folks is like in DC.
Like with Cap we obviously have the fics or HCs where he hunts for wendigo or joins the great hunt on Halloween or is weary of Fae, Gnomes and Leprechauns. But ehat does that imply about the culture of Prople Of Magic. (Like PoC but PoM) They're obviously going to have a vastly different culture, especially those surrounded by magic. How does this affect the kids who are PoM but not immersed in the culture.
Perhaps Giovanni Zatara believed in the importance of seeming more human as to hide among them and riase Zatanna that way, she didn't get the bed time stories of fae or clever foxes, didn't get the stories of offerings and hospitality towards strangers.
How would Zatanna feel knowing that she was suddenly lacking such an integral part of her. She knows it was for her safety and for easy of fitting in with her more human peers, but she is still missing something.
She is a being of Magic and just as connected to the plights and feelings of that culture, but it has not been ingrained in her. She will not *give* her name to a stranger, but she may hesitate to provide lodging to a strange man cloaked in shadows and glowing faintly gold.
And then this hero pops up, calling himself Captain Marvel, coming from the distinctly Magical Fawcett and boasting stories of hunts and fae dinners, of the kids on the sidewalks playing hopscotch and bouncing past the small Farie circles.
Of every little action having a small sparkle to it. Of kids who aren't even technically magic knowing more about her culture and experiencing more than she ever will be able to.
How does Cap go about involving her in their cultures celebrations without upsetting her father, she so clearly wants to be apart of the maypole ceremony, but the blessings bestowed on the town affect those who complete the dance, but all children of magic and those with connections complete it at least once before they become an adult. And wouldn't that be horrible to find out you missed such an opportunity.

I think many people for some reason believe that Republicans actually care about children's rights... that the dogwhistle "think of the children" means that caring about childhood trauma and believing u should have empathy for children is like. Evil. When in reality Republicans fucking hate children, especially every child that is at risk bc they are queer or poc or poor etc, and only value them as a rhetorical device and as property. They literally advocate "parent's rights" all the time for a reason. That's why caring about children's rights is not the same thing as the dog whistle "think of the children"

hey, have you heard of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)? it's a law that's been introduced to the US senate a few times now, and it's coming back. here's the most recent version of the bill.
wel, what would KOSA do? it's goal is to "protect children online", as the name would suggest, by having online content algorithms changed in the US. it'd also make it illegal for social medias and "addictive" internet feed to notify you at night or during school hours. the billmakers like to depict it as saving teenagers from body images, substance abuse , addiction and the likes, but it's not.
what KOSA aims to do is to shield children and teenagers from progressiveness. this law will create censorship for every single marginalized community, including POC, LGBTQ+, and women. this law is pure censorship and only aims to create less transgender folks in this "free" america.
i urge you to fight back. censorship laws are already being passed everywhere in america, and there is a very real chance this can be passed as well. if you value freedom on the internet, and especially if you're LGBTQ+, please take a moment to visit these links.
