By the ninth one, I mean like after he does something for Apollo, Christopher decides that in return, Apollo can do him a little 'favor'—and that is deal with Agis for him.

Helen of Sparta.
Very clearly pre-Iliad, I may draw her at her early Odyssey age later!

in my opinion, many modern greek retellings/stories inspired by greek mythology don't fail because they're inaccurate. they fail because they have nothing new to say.
i don't mind changes to the original myths, as long as they make sense and they have a narrative purpose! i understand that making changes is sometimes necessary to convey a certain narrative, especially to modern audiences.
is epic the musical mythologically accurate? hell no! but the changes serve to tell a specific story and to convey a certain message. also, epic the musical is self aware about its "inaccuracies". and the music just bangs.
is hadestown accurate? no! does it make the change that I always dread, removing the kidnapping from the hades/persephone myth? yeah. but hadestown is barely about them, and it uses greek mythology as a "narrative frame" to tell a certain story. it has a point. it has a message.
what are stories like lore olympus trying to say? what is the messagge of the hundredth persephone/hades retelling? what are we supposed to take from them? "don't listen to your mother she's a bitch"? "mothers are irrational and you should forsake her for a man"? very feminist.
why are we still doing the medusa "feminist" retellings? it's BEEN done. too many times. and they're ALL the same. it's a worse crime than being bad: they are boring.
i'm tired of retellings that are just "what if this very famous story was THE OPPOSITE and the protagonist was an ASSHOLE the whole time and the villain was MISUNDERSTOOD and the real VICTIM" okay but why. why would that be the case. what's the point of the story you want to tell. or do you just want to use shock value.
of course, i dislike retellings that are so different from the myth that they go AGAINST the spirit/message of the original, because in that case what's even the point of retelling the myth? just tell an original story. but i would take stabbed poseidon and capitalist hades any day over the same basic story of medusa being a girlboss or demeter being bad because of... reasons?
tl;dr: stop being unoriginal and tell a good story. or at least an entertaining one. i beg you

The extra comic I did for my crack Thai AU (From this if you’re wondering) I still find the concept of reverse iliad where Paris kidnapped Menelaus funny so, here ya go! Even in this universe Paris is still certified freak.

“You well know I’m a fan of catchy songs…”

This was a DTIYS entry for Carianti (@cariantidraws on instagram)
Apollo design is mine (had to BE FAST but I like the way he came out), but the harp is heavily inspired by hers!

Very silly thing but I have this Epic stupid hc where when Ody went to Sparta as a suitor (mostly just to watch the chaos) the only thing he knew about Helen was that she was the most beutifull mortal woman in the whole world.
So when they enter and see the whole Spartian Royal Family waiting he sees Penelope and thinks she has to be Helen as she is clearly the prestiest. At this point he still isn't in love. But he is pretty sure she is Helen.
So they keep finding each other and talking and Ody is soon pretty in love and talking all about how he knew Helen was gorgeus but not that she was funny and smart and the guys are like "wow he is already talking to Helen" because the king still didn't made proper introducions so Helen is only talking to the guys she really likes.
Then the official introduction between the suitors and Helen happens and Odyseus fully thinks it's some sort of test and is like "this is not Helen, that's Helen" *points to Penelope who is just there to cheer for her cousin and is pretending to not be disapointed the guy she was talking for weeks was here for Helen* and everyone else is like "what" and Helen is "no that's my cousin Penelope" and Odysseus just blurts out "but they said to look for the most beutifull woman around" Penelope blushes hard. And that's how Odysseus absolutely fails in conquering the heart of Helen of Sparta (and everyone is pretty okay with it).

Helen:Send the next one in. (Odysseus walks in) Hello, and you must be?
Odysseus: Odysseus. (Clearly looking around.)
Helen: (thinking) He is a weird one, he didn’t bring a gift, but he’s also not staring at me like I’m some trophy. It’s almost like he is here out of obligation.
Odysseus: Hey so… who was that girl you were talking to earlier. The one that really knew her stuff about strategy?
Helen: (intrigued) You mean Penelope? Yea she is really smart. Smartest girl I know.
Odysseus: Brains and beauty. She is perfect. (Gushing)
Helen: I’m guessing she’s more your type?
Odysseus: (realizing his actions) I’m sorry! I just…
Helen: Don’t appologize, I think it’s refreshing. Most of the suitors here are just boasting about their accomplishments. You actually seem interested in the girl you love.
Odysseus: Yea, she is incredible. But the way things are… I don’t stand a chance.
Helen: (hears someone whisper in her ear) You should talk to my dad. He’s been stressed about this whole suitor business. If you can help him out, he can put a good word in for you to Penelope’s father. And you can have my support.
Odysseus: Wow! Thank you. That would be amazing.
Helen: No problem, but maybe you can help me? Is there any suitor you would think would be good for me?
Odysseus: (ponders) I’d say Menelaus. He’s a good guy and is actually keeping his hotheaded idiot of a brother Agamemnon in check to give a good impression. And trust me… That is a feat in itself.
Helen: I think I saw him before… he did seem cute. Thanks for your insight.
Odysseus: No, thank you. (Looks behind her to see Athena giving him a thumbs up)
