Kai and Ryuu's father was one of the seven Plague Lords of Inferna. Namely Ira, or Wrath. Their mother was a succubi queen (or princess, depending on how you want to look at it). Though Kaizen, unlike his younger brother, doesn't have a close relationship with their mother, despite being most similar to her in nature and appearance.

Also dissimilarly to Ryuusei, Kaizen has obtained something of an archdemon status. This has led many to question if Ryuusei is Ira's biological child or if the two brothers have different fathers. Though neither of them know with any certainty, Kaizen is of the belief that this is, in fact, the case. This is the leading factor in the brothers centuries long conflict.

Kaizen is a lust demon, not an incubus. He doesn't necessarily have to sleep with his victims to feed. Actually, Kaizen gets off on any and all lust, even if it's not directed at him, though that does sweeten the pot.

He actually loves humans, in a sick, twisted way. He finds them fascinating and hideous, like watching a never-ending string of car crashes. He'll often refer to them as his "ugly little pets" or "silly little things". Always as if talking down to a pitiful animal. His abilities make him attuned to human emotions and he understands their thoughts even better, often to the point of manipulating them to make things more entertaining for himself. He is a sadist through and through.

His fascination with Xiaoming stemmed from the fact that Xiaoming doesn't exhibit the same sort of emotions as other humans. Rather, a lack thereof. Meaning he can't feed off him (i.e. victimize him) because Xiaoming doesn't perceive lust. Xiaoming being the exception piqued his interest. In his mind, this makes Xiaoming exempt to all his condescending opinions about humans. Of course, Xiaoming having zero interest also helped, making Kaizen want to pursue him harder (that masculine energy tho).

BONUS: Though Xiaoming finds Kaizen despicable, disgusting, borderline abominable... In reality, Kaizen is incredibly gentle with him personally. After their initial meeting and clash, the two have never fought, neither physically nor verbally. They don't argue, as Kaizen is far too submissive to Xiao to refuse his commands. He grows to have a deep respect for Xiaoming, which morphs into something akin to love, if a demon could feel it. He'll tease Xiaoming endlessly, but in fact he is not only deeply loyal to him, but fiercely protective, and cares a great deal for Xiaoming's feelings. He will often give him gifts, dote on him and heap on flatteries (even if Xiao believe these all to be a show). But he's also very mindful of Xiaoming's thoughts and emotions, allowing him the space to speak and express himself, and never judging him one way or another. He abstains from doing things he knows Xiaoming would never tolerate, at least, in any capacity Xiaoming might find out he's doing it lol, and agrees to operate within the strict rules Xiaoming lays out for him as a way of proving his devotion.

Some Dragons!

Tempest: Tempest is a male Windreaper Wyvern bonded to Nova Fulgur, he is curious and hotheaded, though not necessarily reckless. He and his rider are part of the Rebellion.

Cassiopeia: a female Night/Snowreaper Wyvern bonded to a Aionios Mercenary named Auriga Blanche, they are part of the 3rd Wyvern Squadron and fight alongside the Aionios troops and Fulgur family. (Both Cassi and Auriga belong to @vincedmeat )

Thunderbolt: a female Thunderreaper Wyvern bonded to Aesir Fulgur, just like her rider she is harsh and unforgiving, especially on the battlefield. She and her rider are responsible for a lot of death and destruction.

Frostbite: a male Frost/Snow/Night/Bloodreaper Wyvern bonded to Aurore Duratus, he is the offspring of Aurore's parents dragons. Frostbite is considered to be among the most beautiful dragons ever seen by Dragon Scholars, no doubt thanks to his special heritage.

Skullcrusher: a female Magmareaper Wyvern, bonded to a man simply known as the Brute, she is feared and possibly the most dangerous and largest of the Aionios mercenary dragons. She has a severely scarred and injured lower jaw which was corrected with Dragonsteel, she’s a veteran and has killed many other dragons. Both are part of of Squadron 1.

Weepingsnow: a male Snowreaper Wyvern, hatched wild but later bonded to Skadi Duratus, named for his markings he is rather gentle, which common for his breed, and always hovering around his peculiar rider, however he is not to be underestimated.

Quickstrike: is a male Dune/Flashreaper Wyvern, bonded to another Ainoios mercenary named Lazuli, unlike most others, Lazuli has no real desire to fight this war, yet knows not what else to do and fears what may happen if she refuses. Quickstrike is often curled around his somber rider.

Nightshade: is a male Grovereaper bonded to a Forest elf Sentinel named Jade, he has rare markings and is a very proud dragon, often holding his head high and affectionately nipping at his riders arms.

Inferno: a male, Flameborn, Flame/Emberreaper bonded to Pyrrha Ardor, who is also a Flameborn. He is temperamental and stubborn, not unlike his rider, though he acts the ability to use sarcasm like she does. When angered enough his scales will shimmer blue and his fire too will turn a brilliant blue.

Veilwatcher: a male Ghost/Emberreaper, bonded to another Aionios merc named Vendetta, just like his rider, Veil is unpredictable and remorseless, snapping at allies too, though never even hissing at Vendetta, kindred spirits these 2 are, though he is much more mentally stable than his traumatized rider.

Geyser: a male Sea/Emberreaper, bonded to, again, a Aionios merc, Llyr is his beloved rider, often tugging her into water to play, Geyser is generally Curious and playful but mostly only towards Llyr.

Snowfall: a young female Snow/Frost/night/Bloodreaper Wyvern bonded to Aurore Duratus's younger brother, Aquilo Duratus, she is just about big enough to be ridden and both her and her young rider are mostly kept out of the conflict. She is curious and very friendly.

Sunbringer: a male, Sunborn, Lightreaper Wyvern, bonded to a Sunborn girl named Elaine Solar, both are beloved by their people of the Temple of Solis. Sunny is protective and intelligent like his rider.

Seastrike: a male Sea/Flashreaper bonded to a human/elf named Lepidolite, Seastrike's appearance is akin to that of an electric eel. ( Both also belong to My friend @vincedmeat )

Whiteout: a male Icereaper Wyvern, bonded to Gwendolyn Duratus, he is docile as long as Gwen is near, otherwise he becomes rather agitated. Their bond is said to be among the strongest, Gwen not even needing to utter commands for her dragon to act. His favored food is Sabertooth Salmon and he will pester Gwen until she takes him to the lake to catch some.

Eclipse: a female Light/Nighreaper, bonded to yet again, a Aionios Merc, Aurelius is a very competent fighter and rider, he is intelligent, snarky and passionate and yet very honorable. Eclipse is an elegant dragon and among the most beautiful, she is loyal and fierce.

Skyfall: a male Flashreaper, bonded to a member of the rebellion, Valkyrie Fulgur, Skyfall is clever and aggressive, incredibly snuggly when interacting with his rider though, he is Val's greatest comfort.

Silvermoon: a female, Moonborn, Nightreaper bonded to Moonborn Jericho Lunar, she is quick, clever and proud. Her rider is her priority and favorite thing in the world. The people of their temple deem her the most magnificent dragon in the world. Though it seems she has caught the eye of the beautiful Sunbringer.

Goldwing: a male Firereaper Wyvern bonded to Themis Ardor, Goldwing is clever and highly focused on Themis at all times, both he and his rider are younger twins. He is considered the Ardor's most beautiful dragon, many watch him fly just to see his wings catch the sunlight. Other than Themis's next of kin, he dislikes men to a degree of growling and snapping at them.

The Sea Ghost: a Wild, elder female Seareaper Wyvern, she is often spotted flying or napping near the south eastern part of the kingdom of Aura, she is docile and friendly, even letting children come up to pet her and feed her her favorite snack, mackerel. She is old, nearly a century old she was named for her pale scales.

Nightfang: a male Night/Bloodreaper Wyvern, bonded to a former Aionios merc, Jean Duratus is the spous of Boreas Duratus, together they had Aurore and Aquilo. Nightfang is very fond of Jeans children, and himself has fathered their dragons. He is quick and nimble yet a fierce fighter and very protective.

If only this actually resonated with Genesis. If only he actually understood what Sephiroth was saying. If only he registered that Sephiroth never wanted to be a hero, never truly wanted to be in the spotlight, and that his jaded and reflexive response revealed how Sephiroth would have been perfectly content should someone else have adopted “his glory”. Maybe he would have been able to snap out of it a little and have a genuine conversation about their rivalry. Imo, Sephiroth was only cocky in the training room bc he was comfortable being so around his friends. He cherished having someone who could challenge him, treasured having a person who pushed him to his limits and gave his exceptional skills some fun and purpose… And this playful arrogance unfortunately blinded him to a festering and very much real sense of envy on the other side.

And now he was trying to apologize for it.

Alas, whether it’s the degradation clouding his mind or years of accumulating bitterness that degradation took advantage of, Genesis brushed it off.

This following comment also makes me believe that we’re gonna see something in EC about Sephiroth “stealing” Genesis’s glory. And (knowing Sephiroth and his good-hearted obliviousness), it will most likely be completely unintentional, creating the first real rift in their friendship. Planting the first real seeds of envy.

I have a question, do you think clubs are obligatory or what part they play if they count as extra credits in some way? I had the question in my mind after thinking on how can Jade and Malleus form their own interest club and how it plays out in academics or in their week as to the students in general so I though maybe get an extra opinion of somebody else that has spend some time looking at details of the game will help get another perspective on it.

From what I can tell, it might not have been confirmed either way! I was not able to find any reference in the game about the joining of a club being mandatory or optional.

(In the novel we are told "All students of Night Raven College must, without exception, join a club or society of some kind," but it is not unusual for the game and novel to vary from one another.)

Idia has a line about earning "club credit" on EN, which sounds a little like the clubs are treated similar to classes and may be a requirement, but as he does not mention earning credit in the original game (it was added to his dialogue on EN), this may not count.

Trey has another EN-exclusive comment about Glorious Masquerade representatives maybe being decided based on grades and club participation, but his original dialogue does not mention clubs. The word (生活態度) is a little difficult to put into English and means things like waking up on time, being on time to classes, not causing trouble, following rules, etc.

In the second Vargas Camp event the art club students are motivated with the threat of being forced to join sports clubs, but in the first Vargas Camp the sports clubs members are merely threatened with being disbanded, with no mention of having to join different clubs as a result.

Clubs are referenced throughout various vignettes, with maybe Trey's line about joining the Science Club as an alternative to a Home Ec / Cooking Club the closest we get to an insinuation that he had been forced to choose something, even if it was something he did not want to do.

And then there is Idia picking the Board Game Club because the Science Club was too crowded, and Cater saying that the Pop Music Club is on the brink of being disbanded and he doesn't want to "be forced into a sports club," so maybe the clubs really are a requirement?

This is all a little too vague to really be counted as proof in favor of one possibility or the other, and it may be one of the things that the game is intentionally leaving up to interpretation :>

I searched around a bit for discussions within the community, and found two different, equally interesting theories: on the one hand it is possible that the clubs really are mandatory, with students given the choice of joining an existing club or founding one of their own if nothing interests them, so long as they are involved in a club in some capacity (both Jade and Malleus are the only members of their respective clubs, as you say! But Deuce's application for a Blastcycle club was denied (a point that may be tying into a certain fan theory about Crowley)).

On the other hand, as they all live on campus, it is possible that the vast majority choose to join clubs even though it is not mandatory to do so, simply because they don't have anything better to do.

If you are curious what direction would be best to go in for, say, fanfic purposes, I think there are equally believable arguments for both possibilities! :>

I guess I am the friendly neighborhood Japanese translation anon now, but to answer your questions on honorifics—Sephiroth in Ever Crisis speaks very polite and formally when he addresses the others, whereas his older versions spoke more casually to characters like Zack. His honorific speech in EC is a strong giveaway of his youth and innocence.

For instance, he very respectfully refers to Hojo as “doctor/professor” whereas in the OG or Crisis Core, it’s just “Hojo.”

He is more jaded and casual in those games and EC displays his etiquette as a well-taught child.

I'll play to the player then ;)

He is a bit of a tea connoisseur, though he'd absolutely never admit it. His favorite is Jasmine. Kaizen will often gift him with teas, both forthright and anonymously, as he knows it's the one thing Xiao can't refuse.

He is renowned for his swordsmanship. His skills are considered legendary. However, he loathes to use them against human opponents. He was conscripted in war many hundreds of years ago and deeply regrets his involvement. He won't talk about it to anyone (and no one is alive who remembers what really happened) but the legend goes that he defeated an entire army single-handedly. Whether it's truth or entirely fiction is up for debate.

Despite his skill with a blade and immense spiritual energy, he actually sucks at hand to hand combat. A weakness he's never been able to make peace with.

He dislikes most animals. Especially the idea that anyone might keep them as house pets. He does enjoy birds, to some extent, however.

He very rarely speaks more than necessary. He is very clipped and curt in reply. People who aren't familiar with him think him rude or arrogant. There might be some truth to that. He just doesn't find anyone worthy of having conversation with. Almost accidentally, the person he finds most interesting in conversation is Kaizen. Again, he'll never admit it, but it's obvious from the way the former manages to get more than five words out of him at a time.
