i love that isafrin can be the most straightforwardly romancey, wholesome pairing on a surface level and then you go one (1) level deeper and run into siffrin’s seething guilt and convoluted feelings around touch and intimacy and the extent to which they want or don’t want those things in a specifically romantic way or if he was trying to seek connection and love in any way he could once he knew that Isabeau wanted those things from him in that context, and the combined power trip/self disgust at “manipulating” Isabeau’s desires without his knowledge to make themself feel wanted and in control. and then you keep going and there’s also Isabeau’s own warped self image (still, in spite of all his changes, fearing that he’s someone that would be shameful to know), his “emotionally stable pillar” role and self-taught therapy talk masking his deep fears of real confrontation (struggling loop after loop to confess, not wanting Odile to confront Siffrin about their weird behavior in the sus quest bathroom talk) and how Siffrin’s fear of vulnerability and Isabeau’s fear of Pushing Too Hard allow both of their issues to fester unspoken long after it’s clear that the problems exist.

all this to say. duality of isafrin. makes my heart full and warm and happy to see the sweet, fluffy, silly love and connection between them (mutually romantic or otherwise). and then also. the delicious, delicious complications. gnawing on them like a dog with a beloved bone

Okay but it's super interesting how

Din = Power = Ganondorf

Naryu = Wisdom = Zelda

Farore = Courage = Link.

Because Din, in the hylian creation myth, created the physical world. Naryu then created the laws - gravity, time, etc. And Farore finally created life - plants and people.

Din created the body, naryu the mind, Farore the soul.

And the triforce and its wielders so perfectly reflect that.

Ganon is physical power, he is big and intimidating and he breaks things. He is cunning and determined, but that's not what he focuses on. He is might makes right.

Zelda is wisdom and cleverness. She is stall tactics and information and team work. She is a powerful mage with a spine of steel, but that's not how she'll win. She is the pen being mightier than the sword.

Link is courage and persistence. He is the wild card sneaking behind enemy ranks, always moving, plunging into terrifying situations head first. He's a phenomenal fighter with a keen wit, but that's not what will get him through his challenges. He is bravery not being the absence of fear but the triumph over it.

They sit in perfect parallels to each other.

And ganon is reborn through his body - his resurrection is immortality. No matter how low he is cast, as long as he has a body he can claw his way back. He can cling to his power, build it ever higher.

Zelda is reborn through the magic of her bloodline. It's the accumulated knowledge handed down for generations, the unique power she must master, the skills she must develop to survive and get her kingdom out the other side intact. Even her name, the knowledge of herself, is handed down from all the way from the very first. Her ancestors knowledge of her future presence, her stability, is what gives her the edge.

Link is reborn in spirit. He is not bound by flesh or blood. Just like his wanderlust soul he can reappear in any time or place. His variation, his unpredictability, is exactly how he fights. It's what makes him so hard to pin down.

Ganons need to build strength means he can't chase after link. Links impulsiveness means zelda can outwit him. Zeldas stationary predictability means she's an easy target for ganon.

But the other direction?

Fire melts ice, ice redirects lightning, lightning burns fire.

And that's the very essence of the triforce.

I have noticed !foolish does not seem to like the mortal habit of classifying things as This or That especially in regards to himself and !bad

when tr!ros was saying she realized !bad is evil but she thought he was nice, !foolish dropped that fire dialogue about his understanding that !bad has two hearts. one beats with sincerity and the other beats with chaos, it can be confusing to hear them both beating at once but you can’t listen to just one. the kindness is real, the cruelty is real, both things about him can be genuinely true at the same time

then another recent moment, when tr!lukey was questioning !foolish why a moment ago him and !bad seemed to be friends with common interests and now they were talking about wanting to kill each other. “so you are friends first and then enemies afterward?” is how he tried to make sense of it, but then !foolish said something like “being friends doesn’t mean I still don’t want to kill him. it’s both, one doesn’t have to be before the other”

he’s been clarifying this stuff which leads me to believe !foolish doesn’t like such classifications. and I can get why, mortals don’t view things like he can and can’t see the full picture of what the two of them are. things can be more than belonging to two specific options at once, there can be overlap or more going on than what’s seen on the surface. he can fight to kill his enemy and simultaneously also be friends, something doesn’t have to exist as one state first and then be replaced by another. he can behave both good and evil, they don’t have to be understood as one or the other

THIS is a huge thing that makes other characters so confused about these two. immortals like them think and feel differently, there isn’t any limitation that exists. things are not mutually exclusive. they are everything at the same time and it can all be true

something about the raven cycle kids and the quest to be seen and understood and the physical manifestations they have of their inner selves. gansey and his eccentric camaro that’s always breaking down. ronan and his raven that’s almost literally his heart. blue and her old beech tree that’s with her through everything. and adam who doesn’t know his true self; adam who is the trailer, the hondayota, the st agnes apartment, the magician card. adam who has to remake himself.

i feel conflicted abt the “paul wanted to be a father to john” and vise versa. i don’t think either one of them expected the other to be paternal. rather, what they provided to each other is what they lacked in their lives, which is the emotional needs that a lost/estranged/distant family member never provided. this doesn’t mean they wanted to be parent, instead john needed someone who could be his friend (similar to how julia was) but also love and cherish him and stay present throughout it all. on the other hand i think paul needed somebody to be attentive, intuitive, protective, and validating. both of them have deep rooted emotional trauma and i think they equally fostered each other’s good qualities while simultaneously redirecting the not-so-good ones. it was a symmetrical and beautiful balance and each time i come on this app i get sad thinking about how it all ends…
