chewing and growling and throwing up. thinking abt how monoma is So Jealous of midoriya bc he seems to have hitoshi’s attention LOCKED on him at all times and neito does not Understand because midoriya’s not Like Them, what the fuck, and like. ugh. UGH.

the way neito tries to connect with hitoshi initially is yes, about having a non combative quirk, but more than that it’s about how in order to stay in the ring with heroes and villains who are always going to have more raw power than them they have to be willing to fight dirty, and to be a hero sometimes they can’t always afford to act like one;

but also hitoshi. doesn’t fucking believe that ???? don’t get me wrong he knows he’s not going to win a Fair Fight with someone who can set him on fire with their mind or some shit and he IS willing to throw sand in a motherfuckers eyes to make that a fight he can win but. he is also a guy with an Extremely strong moral compass and stubborn dedication to the things he believes, and literally all he’s seen from neito up until this point is his vitriolic hatred towards class A and him generally being a jackass (apart from when he’s being like ✨oh shinsou you’re so cool im so glad we get to fight together let’s destroy these class A assholes together ok? :)✨ but also hitoshi doesn’t know how to deal with That either) and so hitoshi is like ? i’m not fucking like you at all? hello?

contrast this with how izuku talks about hitoshi before/after their match

(i’m struggling to find other screenshots bc i can’t fully pull up the manga rn but TRUST ME) a lot more of izuku’s praise and connection to hitoshi does lies with the fact that hitoshi is a very determined and dedicated person who IS a hero all the way down to his core, because izuku is ALSO obsessed with this mf. and i think that tether between them resonates with him a lot more than the way neito tried to reach out to him, because as much as hitoshi DOES still have a level of deep insecurity about being seen as evil or villainous, i think he sees acceptance of the shit that neito is spouting as giving in to that notion of like. well maybe i’m always going to be kind of a bad person but i’m doing good where i can. and that is Not what he wants. yknow what i mean.

neito and hitoshi were both already predisposed to starting “behind” their classmates due to their quirks, and are both desperately trying to prove (to themselves and to everyone else) that they can do this, that they deserve to be here, but the DIFFERENCE is that what hitoshi wants is to prove that he can be good and that people are wrong about him, neito wants to prove that he’s important. that he’s worth something, and worth something more than what he takes on from other people. and i think he’s made the mistake of assuming their motivations are identical when they simply Are Not.

anyway. naturally neito copes with this disconnect EXTREMELY WELL
