I think this is an interesting question.

There’s a lot of inconsistency and straight up holes in the lore so it’s hard to say for sure.

On one hand, Hydes are supposed to be this ultra rare and unknown type of Outcast. It was why neither the Nevermore nor Nightshade library had any books on them, there was only a journal of their existence that Fester happened to know about…but the school knew to ban them and it was written on Françoise’s medical record?

It’s also not clear if a Hyde is an Outcast onto themselves, or are they some other type of Outcast such as a Psychic and a traumatic event causes one to emerge. I’d have to rewatch, but I thought Weems mentioned how they don’t outright ask what type of Outcast a student is, it’s self-reporting and I guess they take their word for it.

So, it’s possible Françoise either lied and knew being a Hyde was possible. Or she was attending Nevermore as a Psychic, and didn’t know she’d be a Hyde until her own emerged later on in life.

I’m leaning towards she wasn’t aware she had the potential to be a Hyde. If she was hiding her status at Nevermore, I think the smartest thing to do would have been to a) leave Jericho and those who might figure out she’s a Hyde and b) would not marry someone who specifically distrusts Outcasts. The “Outcasts of Outcasts” would be like a double issue for Galpin if he ever found out.

I also think it would be incredibly selfish of Françoise to have this highly dangerous genetic condition that she could potentially pass on, especially if her husband didn’t know and she didn’t warn her son.

I’m hoping and leaning towards Françoise being unaware she had the potential to become a Hyde.

Because of Galpin’s clear bias against Outcasts which his son had learned his own bias behavior, I want to say Françoise lied and he didn’t know. I lean towards her being a Psychic because they’re “Normie passing.”

I never got the sense that Galpin was ever angry with Tyler for bullying Xavier, other than getting caught and prosecuted. He was just more irritated or closed off from speaking with a therapist/about the death of his wife that his son was clearly struggling with, which Tyler was only doing as a court order.

Given the bias and disregard for Tyler’s attack on Xavier, I want to say Galpin would not have married Françoise if he had known she was an Outcast. He doesn’t like them, he doesn’t trust them, and I don’t know what about Françoise would lead him to have made an exception.

Hopefully we learn either way, because I’d be interested in why an Outcast would choose to pass as Normie or would like more in depth into her mindset and motivations as to why she’d be so selfish if she did know she was a Hyde.

My thoughts as I rewatch Wednesday Part 1

-enid’s hands at her sides as she runs over to meet wednesday for the first time is the silliest and cutest thing ever

-donavan let’s the first crime scene be contaminated by the rain, he’s not even trying to preserve evidence

-enid’s a little psycho, it’s perfect

-thornhills fashion sense is horrible

-why is xavier just hovering over her when she wakes up after the gargoyle attack??? how long has he been just standing over her???

-for everything that she is, that she pretends to be, seeing death really shakes her. seeing that vision of the delivery man dying really bothered her

-“boo” wednesday says and the borneo pilgrims attack her, babes, she’s 5 foot tall, that really scared you so badly you had to attack her?? she handed you your ass. deserved.

-she plays with the necklace morticia gave her when she sees the dead delivery man, proving my earlier point

-is that beer in his desk drawer? donavan a drunk??? can’t say i’m surprised

-weems really cares about wednesday, in a complicated and messy way, but she does care

-enid is everything

-her outfits are so cute

-enid being the first person she’s actually venerable around, telling her about her emotions and her past

-“are you sure that you can trust that normie?” she cares. she cares. she loves so much. they barely know each other and enid cares so much.

-what was with the birds in her vision of rowan? are they about her being a raven or is it something else?

I don't know if im fucking stupid or what but my mind just clicked after reading a fanfic that donovan has a tracker on tyler this whole time

And the fact that he never even thought about maybe idk using it to see where tyler's been this whole time when he mysteriously disappeared every now and then? He could've used it to find out the location of the cave tyler's been held in. The whole thing really could've been prevented if he really just paid some attention to his son but nope

Also, what's even worse is if he knew the whole time but completely ignored it

However, Françoise’s postpartum depression caused her Hyde to be unleashed for the first time, resulting in her being institutionalised at Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital as she was unable to control her constant transformations. She died sometime prior to the events of Season 1.

New Wednesday S2 Theory

I was just thinking..what if the Sheriff Galpin ends up dead in like the first few episodes of the season. It would explain why his appearances are cut to a minimum while Tyler seems to have a main role next season.

My theory is, the sheriff ends up shot and everyone thinks it's maybe a su*cide because of what transpired with Tyler, but Wednesday of course goes to the Galpin house where it all took place and investigates and has a vision that someone actually k*lled the sheriff.

While she's investigating, Tyler secretly returns back to his home as well and confronts Wednesday asking her what happened to his dad. She tells him that his fathers death wasn't due to su*cide and that someone silenced him because turns out he was looking into Hydes, and old photo albums of his wife Francoise.

From there Tyler and Wednesday will have to team up to figure out what happened to the sheriff, who's Wednesday's stalker, and somehow Bianca's cult will tie into everything..and I do believe that Francoise Galpin is going to make an appearance in either a flashback or in real life (I believe she's still alive)..

Anyway..

It's a sad theory I know, I really want Tyler and his father to reconcile but I really don't see how that's going to be possible next season when Donovan Galpin's barely in any episodes.
