Why Regular Wellness Exams Are Essential for Your Pet’s Health
At The Ark Animal Clinic, we believe that prevention is better than cure, and that’s why regular wellness exams are a cornerstone of our veterinary services. These routine check-ups are not just about giving your pet a clean bill of health—they’re an essential part of ensuring your furry friend lives a long, happy, and healthy life.
What Are Wellness Exams?
Wellness exams are comprehensive health check-ups that allow us to assess your pet’s overall condition. During these exams, our experienced veterinarians perform a thorough physical examination, checking your pet from nose to tail. We look for any signs of potential health issues, assess their weight, skin, coat, teeth, and overall behavior, and make recommendations tailored to your pet’s specific needs.
Why Are They Important?
Regular wellness exams are crucial because they help detect any underlying health problems early, when they are easier (and often less expensive) to treat. Many conditions, such as dental disease, obesity, and even heart issues, can develop slowly without obvious symptoms. By scheduling regular exams, you give us the opportunity to catch these issues before they become serious, ensuring your pet remains in optimal health.
What to Expect During a Wellness Exam
During a wellness exam at The Ark Animal Clinic, you can expect a comprehensive assessment of your pet’s health. We’ll discuss their diet, exercise routine, and any changes in behavior you may have noticed. We may also recommend vaccinations, blood tests, or other diagnostics to ensure your pet is protected against common diseases and conditions.
Tailored Care for Your Pet
Every pet is unique, and so are their health needs. That’s why we tailor each wellness exam to your pet’s specific age, breed, and lifestyle. Whether you have a playful puppy, a curious kitten, or a senior pet, our team is here to provide the best possible care every step of the way.
Book Your Pet’s Wellness Exam Today
Don’t wait until there’s a problem—schedule a wellness exam for your pet at The Ark Animal Clinic today. Regular check-ups are the key to a long, healthy life for your furry companion. Contact us to book an appointment and give your pet the gift of good health.

Beware of Green Dangers: Common Plants Toxic to Dogs and Cats
Owning a pet can be a rewarding experience, but it also comes with responsibilities. One such responsibility is ensuring your pets don't consume harmful substances, especially plants that may look harmless but are poisonous.
If you're searching for a "pet clinic near me" or "pet veterinarian near me," consider Vetic Pet Clinic for comprehensive pet consultation services. But prevention is always better than cure, so let's delve into some common plants that are toxic to dogs and cats.
Explanation Of Some Plants
Lily: Lilies are extremely poisonous to cats. Even a small nibble on any part of the plant can result in kidney failure within 72 hours. Symptoms: Vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite First Aid: Immediate veterinary attention is crucial. The faster you act, the better the chances of recovery.
Oleander: Oleander is toxic to both dogs and cats and can cause severe heart issues. Symptoms: Vomiting, diarrhea, decreased heart rate First Aid: Rush to the nearest pet veterinarian. Induced vomiting may be advised.
Azalea: Consumption of even a few azalea leaves can lead to digestive issues and widespread systemic poisoning. Symptoms: Vomiting, drooling, diarrhea First Aid: Induced vomiting under veterinary guidance, followed by intravenous fluid.
Sago Palm: The seeds and leaves of the Sago Palm can cause liver failure in both cats and dogs. Symptoms: Vomiting, seizures, liver failure First Aid: Immediate veterinary care is essential. There is no antidote, but supportive treatment may save the pet.
Tulip: The bulb of the tulip plant contains toxins that can cause oral irritation and excessive drooling in dogs. Symptoms: Vomiting, drooling First Aid: Rinse the pet's mouth and consult a veterinarian for further treatment.
Ivy: Ivy can cause a rash and severe gastrointestinal distress. Symptoms: Rash, diarrhea, vomiting First Aid: Wash the skin and consult a veterinarian.
First Aid for Toxic Plant Ingestion If you suspect that your pet has ingested a poisonous plant:
Identify the plant.
Call a pet consultation service or poison control.
Administer first aid as advised.
Take your pet to the nearest veterinarian, such as Vetic Pet Clinic, for a thorough examination.
Conclusion Protecting your pets from toxic plants is a vital part of pet ownership. Knowing what to look for and how to act can mean the difference between life and death. When in doubt, Vetic Pet Clinic is here for all your pet's healthcare needs.
Remember, your pets rely on you for their safety. Make informed decisions and seek professional advice from Vetic Pet Clinic when needed.

AITA for telling my (26f) friend their clinical lycanthropy is not an excuse for scaring my dog?
so this is kind of long but ill try to keep it brief.
one of my friends (25nb) is a clinical lycanthrope. they are professionally diagnosed and, for the most part, are a good person with healthy habits. sometimes, though, they get a bit into their delusions and perceive things... well, fantastically. They always seem to attract animals - from dogs and cats to wild birds (on more than one occassion wild doves and even a hawk once will land near them and sit with them, or look at them and be inquisitive) and bugs.
When these things happen they always seem to take it as a sign that they are an animal and these other animals can sense that. our friend group once heard about a turtle walking out of a pond and basking next to them for over a year.
Recently we've been sharing spaces (my condo) a lot as they've been in between jobs, and my dog, Jasper (a mutt, 5yo F), usually really likes them. However. due to their clinical lycanthropy, about once a week they will go outside and howl. it does sound very much like a wolf (we live where wild wolves do exist, and yes they do apparently howl back sometimes), and this scares Jasper so much she is usually shaking and has, on more than three occassions, peed in her bed and on the floor.
I asked them to please stop howling as it scares my dog, and every time they tell me that they cannot help howling as it helps them express their inner wolf.
I told them that if they can't stop scaring jasper, they can't stay with me, and that their illness isn't an excuse. I also told them that if they're willing to calm down and bathe jasper when she pees out of fear and wash her bed and clean the floors during the middle of the night, i wouldn't be mad.
Since this argument they haven't howled in about two weeks but have begun treating me as if I'm bigoted for wanting them to help my dog stop being scared over something they continuously choose to do.
AITA?
What are these acronyms?

You're Off-key
Part 3
Part 2
Reader X Gravity Falls
Warnings ⚠
⚠ everyone is aged up, cussing, American healthcare, Ford being weird, Italics= thoughts ⚠
Hours had passed and Mabel wanted to know everything about you, her "new friend."
You told her your favorite color, desserts, movies, and so on. She had questions about questions and even more questions. It was almost never ending.
Thankfully her twin distracted her by talking about the other board games that you might be able to play.
"Or we could play a card game?", Dipper suggests.
"I am willing but I will have you know that I am terrible at card games.", you say as the two help you to a spare room upstairs. "Is it good or bad that I'm feeling a little light headed as we go up?"
"Aaand we should sit you down. Soon.", one of the two panics.
Mabel thinks it's a little funny. "How does it feel? Like you're floating or like you're weightless?"
"What's the difference!?", her twin asks as they both get you to sit down in the extra room.
"There is a difference.", you confirm as you lean back on the chair. "Floating is like back and forth, you feel it in waves, while being weightless is like you're in a void, nothing is weighing you down."
"....", the two stare at you as they try to process how you know that.
"Did they have Smile Dip?"
You wake up somewhat early, that being the ass crack of dawn and see a glass of water on the table nearby.
Sitting up to take a sip from the glass, you find a weird headset on your head and follow the wires, only to find Ford holding a little calculator like monitor at the end of it.
"Don't mind me, just reading your vitals and brain waves."
"AAAAAAAH-!"
You knew that Ford had a few screws loose but he was taking things too far. Even Stan gave him a good whack after rushing up the stairs with a bat.
Though, you did know it would happen, it was still kinda creepy.
"Even though it is great to be curious and have the need for knowledge, Great Uncle Ford must be put in time out.", Marble declared during breakfast. "You crossed a lot of boundaries."
"What is the normal amount of boundaries that are allowed to be crossed?", Ford asked.
"None.", Dipper said.
"Look, I can understand that you wanted to check up on me but with such treatment, it feels more like I'm a test subject than a patient.", you speak up. "Also, maybe you want to wait till I'm conscious to do tests like that. You'll most likely get better results."
"Better results how?", the older man asks.
"I'm awake to answer questions is how.", you say. "Also, I need copies of whatever you got from that scan."
⯅
"I call driving to the clinic!", Mabel says.
You and Dipper glance at each other a little worriedly.
"Ten bucks says you can't make it without pointing out cute dogs on the way.", you bet suddenly.
"Twenty for cats.", Dipper adds in.
"I'll take that bet!", she says and grabs the keys. "To the golf cart!"
A quick drive, some disco music, and a quiet Mabel, you all make it to the little clinic and check yourself in.
While waiting (for whatever reason), you look around and find an opossum playing dead near the blue couch you were sitting on. Mabel was trying to pet it and Dipper was pushing her hand away.
"No, stop! We don't know if it has rabies!", he whispered.
"Opossums are actually least likely to have rabies.", you say while reading some magazine titles on the book rack to your left.
"Ha!", Mabel laughs and pets the opossum.
Someone calls out your name and you head over. A quick scan, a questionnaire, and the doc tells you to take it easy for a few days.
"So.. you're telling me something I already knew to do?", you say.
"Yes!"
With a deadpan stare, you walk out of the clinic upset.
"The American healthcare system!", you shout. "WHAT A JOKE!"
"What happened?", Dipper asked.
"Did you get magical powers!?", Mabel asks.
"No. I got common sense told back to me.", you say with a sigh. "Let's run so I don't have to pay anything."
"You got it!", Mabel says and tosses the keys to Dipper. "Shotgun!", she runs off.
Thanks to that, which was nothing, all of you made it back to the Mystery Shack and you went straight to Ford.
Who was downstairs in the bunker lab.
"Ok old man, I need to know what that scan said and how to take care of my injuries. Please."
Ford was doing...something and gestured at the papers on his desk.
"Of course, the papers are over there. Just give me a minute."
Picking up the scan from the desk, you saw a bunch of zigzag lines and some notes on the side. The writing was a little hard to read but you managed to make some stuff out.
"Can't understand the static? What the heck is this?", you keep reading the almost illegible notes. "I'm just going to take a nap.", you decide. "Or read a book."
I don't want to know. You thought tiredly.
As you left, you didn't notice that Ford hid the scan papers in a folder.
*hides* Now I shall sleep.
~Seline, the person.

Two days. Forty-eight hours. That's all I get to train before they toss me headfirst into the role of head athletic nurse. Just a couple days shadowing Naomi and then - bam! - she's gone on early maternity leave. And if that's not enough, I can't find a single affordable apartment in this insane city. I was so determined to make it on my own, but after 24 fruitless hours of searching, Dad insisted I take an apartment in the complex where the hockey players live. Move in ready next week, free rent, close to the rink. I should be grateful, right? I mean, it gets me out of Dad's place at least. But now it's game day and I'm nowhere near ready. My head's spinning and my stomach's in knots. I have no idea what I've gotten myself into. This is way too much way too fast. Breathe, girl. Just breathe. You've got this.
My heart pounds as I frantically take stock of my supplies. Tape, ice packs, ace bandages - check. It's not that I don't know how to treat injuries. As a nurse, wounds and fractures are second nature. But this - this is new territory. I didn't sign up for the intensity of trauma care on the sidelines. My expertise is in orthopedics, urology, neurology - slower paced clinic work. Not split second emergency response.
I sit on the sidelines watching warmups, taking in the sights and sounds of the rink. There's a smattering of early bird fans already in the stands, but more are still filing in, arms loaded with popcorn and hot dogs. The boys glide and weave across the ice, firing pucks into the gaping net, muscles coiled as they launch themselves into sharp turns.
McClain and Sanders emerge from the tunnel, bundled in pads and skates. They ease towards the goal, McClain positioning himself between the posts while Sanders hangs back, stick resting casually on his shoulder. The other players start peppering McClain with shots - his glove flashes out, quick as a cat's paw, snagging the pucks from the air. He drops into a butterfly, legs splaying wide to kick away rebounds. I can't take my eyes off him, enthralled by his reflexes and fearless focus.
My stomach is in knots as the warmups wind down. One by one, the players skate over to tap fists with Coach and Jack before heading off the ice. Sanders, Dominick, McClain, Ruffilo - they all make sure to bump fists with me too. I force myself to take some deep breaths as the opening ceremonies begin. I watch anxiously as the puck drops for the first faceoff. The boys look sharp, moving the puck around cleanly, getting some good chances early. My nerves start to settle just a bit seeing them come out strong in these crucial opening minutes. But I'm still on the edge of my seat, ready to jump into action at a moment's notice.
I've got my eyes glued to the ice as the Avalanche roar down the rink with the puck, making a beeline for McClain's net. Sebastian bursts forward, moving in to intercept. Sticks clash and sparks fly as he battles for possession. With a mighty swing, he breaks free and shovels the puck away. But his opponent doesn't take kindly to being shaken off. As Sebastian streaks up the ice, the guy charges after him and slams their bodies together, crushing them both against the boards. The glass shudders from the hit - you can feel the aggression pulsating through the arena.
My eyes are glued to Sebastian as he shakes off that nasty hit. The guy is seeing red, flexing out the arm that just got plastered into the boards. He's back in position now, still fuming, and drives hard to defend the net again. A few more plays and another try for a score but McClain is quick as ever and snags the puck. Sebastian eases up to circle back, but that same goon swoops in and crunches him into the wall again. Suddenly it's mayhem - helmets flying, sticks tossed, bare fists grabbing jerseys, going for faces. The refs dive in to break it all up. My heart's pounding as I take it all in. This game just got heated.
As the whistle blows, Coach bellows for Sebastian to hit the bench and sends in Dominick. My stomach drops. Sebastian's face is as red as his jersey as he skates over, and I shuffle closer, dreading what I'll see. His lip is swollen and split open, a trail of blood oozing down his chin. Coach grabs Sebastian's cheeks and gives him a stern once-over before nodding my way. Our eyes meet briefly before Sebastian clambers over the boards on wobbly skates, weighed down by pads and gear.
My heart races as I rummage through my bag for the gauze and antiseptic. I gently dab the wet gauze on his rugged, battered face, taking care not to hurt him. He winces ever so slightly, pulling back as I tenderly clean the gash on his lip.
"This will need some ice," I murmur, transfixed by his mouth. The wound isn't deep, but it would still hurt if I tried to kiss it. Stop it, Sarah.
"I could just lay on the rink, would that help?" he jokes, flashing me a roguish grin.
I can't help but smile, lost in his sparkling eyes. Even bruised from the game, he makes my stomach do somersaults. As I gently dab the last of the blood from his rugged face, I ask for his hands.
He turns them palm down, rough and shaking. I trace my fingers over the tattoos marking his skin, checking for any hidden injuries. Through my gentle touch, I feel his warmth, his strength. Our eyes meet and my heart flutters. I take his hand in both of mine, lightly pressing each knuckle, thrilled by his closeness. He doesn't flinch. If he's in pain, he doesn't show it. Or maybe it's just the adrenaline.
"Looks good," I say, my eyes lingering a little too long on his handsome face. "Nothing too badly damaged."
He smiles, though it turns into a wince as the wounded side of his lip curves up. "Just my pride," he replies ruefully.
"Ah, pride," I tut, leaning in conspiratorially. "A tricky thing to find once lost. But if I happen to stumble over yours rolling around, I'll be sure to scoop it up and return it to its rightful owner." I give him a playful wink, unable to keep from flirting. Even banged up, he's cute as hell.
NOAH'S POV
As I hop over the boards and back onto the ice, my legs feel a little shaky. I skate slowly back to position, my head still spinning. Man, her smile just melts me every time. So sly and sexy. And that hair... She's such a little fox. I can't stop thinking about her. I've got it bad for this girl. Focus, dude! Gotta keep my head in the game. The way her black and red scrubs hug those round curves of hers. Alright, deep breaths. Back to the action.
I'm back defending our goal after that goon got himself tossed for busting my lip. The blood's dripping down my chin but I've got no time to worry about that. We're up 4-2 with the clock winding down. Karlsson and me, we go together like peanut butter and jelly defending our net. A winger tries to blow past me but I plant him into the boards. I knock the puck loose and pass it off to Karlsson but their center snags it. I shake off the winger clinging to me and slide across the crease to rob the center's shot. I scoop up the puck and send it flying down the ice. I'm throwing hits left and right, keeping their forwards outside our zone. The final horn blares and we've done it again - chalk up another W. My jersey's soaked with sweat but the pain doesn't matter.
I'm beat as we drag our battered bodies back to the locker room. My muscles are screamin' under these pads after the torture session on the ice. That bone-crunchin' check into the boards left my shoulder throbbing with a deep bruise. I grunt and roll my arm, trying to shake out the pain.
The locker room erupts when we stumble in. The boys are hootin' and hollerin', dancing around half-naked and drenched in sweat. I toss my stick and lid in my stall and collapse on the bench, rip off my gloves and gingerly touch my busted lip. The metallic taste of blood fills my mouth as I wince.
I peel off my jersey, wincing as the sweaty fabric sticks to my skin. The pads come next, and I sigh in relief as my shoulders are freed from their restrictive embrace. The locker room falls silent as all eyes turn to me. I run a hand through my damp hair, pushing it back from my forehead.
As I sit on the bench, spent from the game, a shadow falls over me. I glance up to see Little Fox standing there, ice pack in hand, trademark smirk on her lips. She holds out the bag, ice cracking inside, and I take it slowly, letting my fingers brush hers. Her eyes trace over my bare chest and I see her throat tighten as she swallows hard. She wants me. My teammates watch us, eager for the show.
I stand tall in front of her, watching those dark eyes go wide. Her lips part slightly as she takes me in. "F-for your face," she stammers, pressing the ice into my hands before slipping away, a new bounce in her step. I grin as she goes.
Game on, Little Fox.
We roll into Sully's still riding high after crushing Washington 4-zip on the ice tonight.
That game was a brawl, I'm still aching all over. But hey, at least my mug is still pretty this time. The split lip from the last match is finally scabbing up enough that I can wolf down a burger without wincing. The shiner's faded and I clean up alright for a night out. The boys and I threw on our nicest threads, my black slacks and a soft navy shirt with the sleeves rolled up to show off the ink running up my arms.
The second I open the door, this total dive hits me with that sweet stench of stale beer and chicken wings. Road signs and hilarious bar quotes plaster the walls from floor to ceiling. Three monster TVs behind the bar blast sports on full volume - college ball, NFL, and of course our boys lighting up the NHL highlights.
With the game pumping through the speakers and the home team plastered on every screen, Sully's is our scene tonight. Loud, messy, no pretensions - just how we like it after a big win.
We snag the biggest table in the joint and start pounding 'em back, one after another. The energy is through the roof thanks to that W. Jolly's already facedown in his third pint, trying to sweet talk the waitress in his sloppy Swedish. The swedish isn’t working but the way he is batting his eyes at her and has her laughing tells me she is into him.
Sanchez is working his magic on a couple hockey bunnies in the corner, likely wanting to take both of them back to the hotel with him. Meanwhile, Nick and Andy are talking trash and seeing who can balance more empty bottles on their domes. As for me? I'm just taking it all in, boys - the brews, the brotherhood, that sweet taste of victory.
"Check it out, McClain," Nick says, words running together as he balances a third bottle on his head, swaying to keep it steady. "It's all about that balance, bro."
Andy scoffs, clutching his six shot glasses in one hand and snatching one of Nick's to perch on his middle finger. "Balance? I'll show you balance, you little punk," he slurs back.
The dim lights of this hole-in-the-wall bar make it tough to see much of anything. Shadows dance across dark wood as my eyes adjust. The dance floor packed tight with bodies grinding up against each other to the pulsing beat. Through the mass of writhing shapes, I catch a glimpse of foxtail curls swaying in time with the music. She's gorgeous, sipping a cocktail through a black straw, full lips wrapped around it. Hips swaying hypnotically in that little red dress that hugs every curve. She laughs, head thrown back in delight, and her friend with the messy bun joins in.
I'm transfixed as I watch her move across the dance floor. The sway of her hips and bounce of her curls has me hypnotized. I down my drink in one gulp, no longer interested in anything else tonight. Pushing through the crowded club, I keep my eyes locked on her - my prize. A few eager ladies try to divert my attention but I'm relentless, driven by desire. I have to feel her body against mine.
Finally reaching her, I slide my hand across the curve of her hip, fingertips digging into the silky fabric of her dress. Pulling her into me, I bring my lips to her ear and growl, "Dance with me, beautiful."
The bass is pulsing through my body as I sway my hips to the beat. Me and my bestie Marissa hit up Sully's after the Kraken game for some much needed drinks and dancing. She looks bangin' in her tight black dress, fending off guys left and right. "Not worth your time, honey!" she says with a flip of her hair.
I laugh but I'm feeling that itch, you know? It's been too damn long since I've felt those hands on me, those lips on my neck. I wore this sexy red number hoping to lure in a hookup, but with Marissa running cockblock patrol, doesn't look like that's happening tonight.
Then, I feel it. Strong hands grasp my hips from behind and pull me back against a hard chest. Mmm I can't help but melt into him as we sway together. Now this is exactly what I needed after that hockey game. Looks like Marissa can't stop me from having a little fun tonight after all.
"Dance with me, beautiful," he murmurs, his voice low and sultry against my ear. I feel the rumble of it through his chest pressed against my back, sending a shiver down my spine. His hands slide around my waist, pulling me closer as we sway to the music. I'm intoxicated by his presence, melting into his embrace. Our bodies move as one, passion smoldering between us. His breath hot on my neck, his touch electric. This dance is full of promise, an invitation to something more.
I'm swaying to the beat, drink in hand, when Marissa leans in close so I can hear her over the pounding music. "I want details," she says, planting a kiss on my cheek and taking the drink from my hand before disappearing into the crowd.
I close my eyes again, letting this mystery man's hands roam as we move together. When I finally open them, I do a double take - it's Noah! Those intense brown eyes boring into mine with that look of determination he gets on the ice.
His strong hands grip my hips, pulling me flush against him. I know I shouldn’t give in, but the heat radiating from his body thaws my resolve. If Daddy found out his little girl was messing around with a player, he’d blow his whistle for sure. Not that his rules have ever stopped me before. That goalie with the dreamy eyes almost made me forget curfew back in high school. But getting caught now might mean so much more than grounded from prom. Still, a girl’s got needs. And this player’s touch tells me he knows exactly how to satisfy them.
"What's the matter, little fox?" His words are a sensual purr that makes my knees weak. The heady scent of beer, whiskey and woodsy cologne intoxicates me. I'm helpless against him, my body craving his touch despite the risk. My breath catches as his lips graze my neck.

Could I request Vanitas with a veterinarian partner?
“Are you going to be much longer? I’m hungry.”
“Just a little Vanitas, then I’ll be ready to lock up for the night and go to dinner.” [Y/N] said while he spun around on one of their stools.
They were taking notes from their clinic visits today. Diligent as ever about their work, [Y/N] would not leave until everything was in order and ready for the next day. He appreciated that about them. Or…at least he did now….
When they first met, Vanitas had not been so beguiled. Murr had been sick. Or at least that was what Noe insisted, all teary eyed and frantic, as he rushed him to the vet for a checkup. Distraught, he begged Vanitas to come with him, which he agreed to only to get the yelling to stop.
Once they arrived at [Y/N]’s clinic, it was like the atmosphere suddenly shifted. The room felt calm and serene by their presence, [Y/N] able to sooth both Noe and Murr seamlessly. Vanitas had to wonder if it was some kind of World Formula trick at first. In reality, it was just them.
Turns out nothing was wrong with Murr at all. He was just being a picky eater. That had been the end of his visits, but Vanitas kept coming around as if he was some sort of a stray cat. Looking for scraps and affection. Or was it just scraps of affection?
“There! All done. Now we can---“Please someone help me!!”
[Y/N] and Vanitas both rush to the front door to see what the commotion was. There stood a young girl. Holding a limp looking puppy in her arms. “My Elosie…she was struck by a carriage…” She explained through fat tears and hiccupped breathes. “Please! You have to save her!”
[Y/N] immediately went to look at the dog. Their expression serious, but then they looked back to catch a glimpse of Vanitas. “It’s alright. Go on.” Whatever plans they had was no where near as important as this now. A vision from his childhood flashing through his mind of similar fat tears, but no one to rescue the mutt he’d called his own that followed the trope around.
“Ok. Sweetheart, I need you to give her to me and we’ll take a look. I’ll do everything I can to help her.”
“I don’t…I don’t have any money…”
“That’s not important now.”
[Y/N] carried the dog to the back, brushing past Vanitas, with the little girl hot on her heels like a shadow. [Y/N] was very diligent at their job. They would be at this all night if need be to save the dog’s life. So, he decided it would just be best to leave. Come back later, with bread and salads and custards, and ask how it went. He didn’t believe in God much anymore, but he said a little prayer to someone that it would be alright and another small prayer for [Y/N]’s skilled hands.

Today one of my cats needed to undergo a cardiac checkup, which was going to take a few hours . . . but also the clinic was an hour's drive from my house so it would have been pointless to go home only to turn around and drive right back again. So instead I hit all the local thrift shops (which had the added bonus of letting me pick up items I could sell to offset vet bills, ha ha) while I waited for the clinic to let me know I could pick him up.
So, Goodwill is a widespread thrift store in the US, most of which are set up something like a typical store (except nothing is new in box obviously), with items divvied up by category. The toys are in one area, the blouses are all on the same rack and are sorted by size, etc etc.
However, there are also Goodwill Outlet stores which instead have long blue troughs on wheels, with items thrown in higglety pigglety.
Shoppers scrabble through the items, and periodically the employees shoo them away, remove a whole row of troughs from the floor, and roll out new troughs. The shoppers hover around, and as soon as the employees give the word everyone falls upon the new troughs like a feeding frenzy.
Not only that, but at these Goodwills you pay for goods by the pound. I think the price varies by location; at this one it was $1.26 per pound.
I've been to Goodwill Outlets before but never found many toys (though I did pick up a duvet I've used for over 10 years and I once found a perfect condition Fluppy Dog), but this one? OMG. SO many toys! I found two G1 ponies, a G3 Ponyville playset, a Barbie jeep from the 90s and so much more.
Anyway, if you have a Goodwill Outlet store near you I recommend checking it out, the chaos is pretty fun.

After catching up on some sleep, Mercy heads out to Brindleton Bay to start her volunteer work. Having a part time job at a coffee shop earns her a few simoleons whilst focusing on her desperate need to give back. With each organisation she helps, Mercy hopes that the Quick family name will be restored to its former glory. She’s stretched thin, trying to donate simoleons and time to every cause she can. Even after seven years of hard work, someone still needs help. Her good trait won’t be satisfied until she can make the world a better place! Walking into Pupperstone Park, Mercy heads to the bathroom to scrub up before her shift. Once she’s squeaky clean, she pulls out her phone and clocks in with the vet clinic manager. Mercy volunteers for a charity operated by the nearby vet clinic, helping stray cats and dogs. Sometimes, Mercy’s duties include giving wellness treats to poorly pups. Those are the worst but most necessary interventions. No one wants to see a sad, sickly pupper! Today, Mercy’s orders are much more uplifting. Mercy: “One dog needs a bath, down near the beach? The rest just want cuddles? Of course! You can count on me!” Mercy’s day couldn’t end on a higher note! She first finds stray dogs in Pupperstone Park to play and cuddle with. She tops up their food bowls, then heads to the beach to find the little pupper in need of a bath. By the end of her shift, many waggy tails warm her heart! A good deed done well!

The MD and DVM; Chapter 1
Author’s note: hii omg this is the first fanfiction I’ve written in about five years now loool…I wrote this because I’ve never seen a harvey fic where the farmer is a veterinarian, and I have seen many questionable things said about farming. I work on a farm, and I am working towards going to veterinary school, so I felt my knowledge might contribute to a unique Harvey fic lol correct me if I’m wrong, tho, and please let me know if I should continue this! Crossposted on ao3 under xxdeaduniverse.
spring 1
You had always loved your grandfather’s property. His death almost broke you. However, you were delighted to find that he had left you his farm, Cinnamon Meadow. It was a quiet slice of heaven nestled away in Pelican Town. It still had all its old charm, just some added overgrowth and a lack of crops and animals.
You graduated from veterinary school a couple of years ago. Visiting your grandfather’s farm ignited your love for animals, and it only grew the older you became. After eight years, you earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science and were officially a doctor in veterinary medicine.
Since your veterinary school was near Zuzu City, you picked up a job offer at a clinic in the heart of the city and worked almost exclusively with dogs and cats. It was incredibly fun; however, you had forgotten your initial dream of working with farm animals instead of small ones. So when your grandfather died, you were happy to see he left you the farm in his will. While living in Zuzu City, you would visit Pelican Town every so often to say hello to your grandfather, but more so because Marnie was a client of yours. She called you whenever her animals were having the slightest of health issues. You were happy to answer her calls because it meant you would see cows, catch up with Marnie, and say hello to your grandfather.
You sighed while you stood on the porch of your grandfather’s old house, which was technically yours now. It was a beautiful spring day. You didn’t realize how much you had missed the sounds of birds chirping.
Marnie interrupted your peace by slamming the front door on her way out of the house.
“Whoops! Didn’t mean to let that door slam,” She chuckled. You smiled at her. You were so grateful she agreed to help you move your stuff today.
“Well, that was the last box,” She sighed in relief. “I’ve gotta run. Shane has to work a shift at JojaMart, and I need to watch Jas. You should stop by Robin’s house today so she can start building you a coop!” Marnie exclaimed, smiling at you.
“Yeah, I probably will. I want to get this place up and running as soon as possible,” You said, looking out onto the land again.
“I’ll be at the saloon Friday night. You should stop by and introduce yourself to everyone then,” suggested Marnie.
“That’s a good idea, actually. Gives me enough time to do some work and mentally prepare to meet all the new people,” You chuckled. Marnie rolled her eyes.
“They’ll love you. Just come by whenever you’re ready, okay?” She winked at you before walking off towards her farm.
You waved goodbye and groaned once you realized you would have to clear some overgrowth to build a chicken coop. You cracked your knuckles, grabbed your axe from the porch, and got to work.
A couple of hours of hard work later, you had a small clearing of land by the farmhouse. You decided that would be enough hard work for today, you weren’t sure when Robin would close up, and you haven’t unpacked anything in your house at all. You set the axe back on your porch and made yourself look somewhat presentable. You noticed your cat, Horace, had already taken a liking to the new digs. He had plopped himself on top of a pile of boxes. Horace was a fat, tuxedo tabby cat and essentially your best friend since you had adopted him your junior year of college. You gave him a pat on the head before heading out to Robin’s.
You admired the peace on your walk to the mountains. At some point, the hours must have melted away because three o’clock. You finally noticed how tired you were from moving in and doing physical work on the land. However, your dreams of dozing away were cut short. The walk to Robin’s was not as long as you had anticipated, though, as her house suddenly appeared hidden behind pine trees. You took a moment to admire her house, assuming she had built it herself. Wooden with a blue roof. You liked it. Once you spotted the telescope on the left, you immediately wondered how beautiful the skies must be here. You hadn’t seen a sky free of light pollution in years.
You cautiously opened the front door to see a counter with a ginger woman standing on the other side reading a newspaper. She looked up when the door opened, smiling at you.
“You must be Y/N! I’m so glad to meet you finally. I heard someone was moving into Cinnamon Meadow, but I didn’t know so soon. I’m Robin,” She said, coming out behind the counter to shake your hand. You shook it, happy to realize she wasn’t startled by some stranger entering her home. You smiled at her.
“Hi. Marnie said to come see you if I wanted anything built, so here I am,” You chuckled. Robin looked delighted.
“Well, sure! What were you wanting to have built?” She eagerly questioned. It was easy to see she was excited; not many villagers in Pelican Town needed new construction.
“I’m going to get Cinnamon Meadow up and running again, so I’ll need a new chicken coop. And then a barn. And probably house renovations. I need a lot done,” You sheepishly rubbed your neck, wondering if this was too much to request all at once. Robin defied you and lit up even more.
“Great! I can get started on the chicken coop tomorrow!” She exclaimed.
“Deal.”
~
After paperwork and settling payments, you returned to Cinnamon Meadow to continue yardwork. You felt so relieved that the coop wasn’t too expensive to build. You had been saving up since you paid off your tuition, and you were finally happy to invest some of the funds into your future. Around six o’clock, your exhaustion won over your ambition, and you decided to settle down for the night. You unpacked enough kitchen supplies to scrounge up some frozen dinner, took a hot shower, and promptly fell asleep with Horace in your small bed around eight.
You slept better than you had in ages. You even had a dream where your farm was complete, cows and all. But you knew something was missing. Or rather, a special someone. What was the farm if you had no one to share it with? You thought to yourself within your dream. You had always told yourself you didn’t need to be with someone, that as long as you made yourself happy, it was all that mattered. But you still ached for it. Your dream was cut short by a particular fat cat lightly smacking your cheek.
“What the–Horace!” You exclaimed.
“I was sleeping so well…” You sighed. You checked the time on your phone. 6 AM? Might as well get up now and get some yardwork done I guess… You thought to yourself with an elongated yawn. You realized you were a little sore from all the work yesterday. You groaned, knowing there would be more to come today. Slowly, you pulled yourself out of bed and organized some food for Horace. As expected, he flew to his breakfast and you figured you should do the same for yourself. A cup of coffee and one granola bar later, you pulled on your favorite pair of overalls and stretched. Today was going to be long. You intended to clear more of the land and buy and plant seeds.
You headed outside to start working and saw Robin hammering away at the coop. Her enthusiasm for her work made you smile.
“Morning, Robin! Any coffee for you?” You greeted.
“NO THANKS!” She yelled back with a smile. You wondered why she was screaming before noticing she was wearing headphones. You chuckled, grabbed your axe, and went straight to work.
Around one, you figured you should take a break to go to the store. You briefly recall Marnie mentioning a place called Pierre’s. After trading your axe for your wallet, you started heading in the general direction of town. It was another beautiful day. Are all the days here going to be as lovely as they have been? You wondered, smiling to yourself. You noticed that the change of scenery from moving here had already positively affected you.
You walked into town and focused on the square before you. It's small but adorable. Lamposts and trees lined the square, along with a few buildings. The one before you was the doctor’s clinic, with Pierre’s store on the other side. You briefly wondered about the town doctor for a moment. You knew you should get yourself checked up sooner rather than later. After doing farm research in your undergrad, you unfortunately found out the hard way that farm work was no joke. You filed away this thought for later and walked into Pierre’s.
The general store was small but had everything you could ever need. The older gentleman with glasses behind the single register smiled at you.
“You must be the new farmer! Y/N right? I’m Pierre. It’s so nice to have somebody new in town!” He exclaimed. You wondered when the last time somebody new moved into Pelican Town.
“Yeah, I’m Y/N. It’s nice to meet you,” You smiled back.
“I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather. He was a great man. Sold me the best crops,” Pierre sighed. You felt a tinge of grief bite at you, pushing it away immediately.
“He was a good man. I fully intend to restore the farm, though, so I’ll have some crops for you,” You chuckled. Remembering what you came here for, you grabbed a bunch of random seed packets and essentials for your kitchen. You accidentally bumped into a woman with bright green hair in one of the aisles. You quickly learned she was Pierre’s wife, Caroline.
“You should come to the aerobics class here on Tuesdays! Great way to get to know everyone,” She smiled. The thought of any more exercise than you already had to do on the farm made you cringe.
“Maybe,” you tentatively said before mentioning it was good to meet her and heading to checkout. You went right home afterward, excited to plant your new seeds. You may have been a little ambitious when you started tilling the dirt; the field you created was large. You also knew if you wanted to make money anytime soon, it would be from crops.
It took forever to till, plant, and water the field. By the time it was 6, you were wiping sweat off your brow and decided that was all you could take today. You headed into your house to make a proper dinner from the groceries you picked up at Pierre’s today: homemade pizza. You savored every bite—your first meal in your first owned house. The thought made you smile. After a shower, you watched TV, cuddling Horace before finally falling asleep for the night.
The following two days seemed to blur together. At some point, you went to Marnie’s to catch up and buy chickens after Robin was done with the coop. You were overjoyed to finally have animals back on the farm and made a mental note to return to Robin’s on Monday to have her start building a barn. However, today was Friday. The day you were going to the saloon. You thought about it–stressed about it–while doing your farm chores that morning. Was everyone going to like you? Would they insist on kicking you out of Pelican Town? Or would you drink enough to forget these irrational thoughts and let go? You decided on the latter.
By the time five o’clock rolled around, you had showered and started getting ready for your first night out on the town. You threw on your favorite pair of jeans and a sweater with some jewelry. After a little makeup and tweaking your hair, you decided you were ready.
Walking out the door, you felt a cold spring breeze on your back. You were immediately grateful you picked a sweater. As you walked towards the saloon, you looked up at the sky. The sun had just begun to set. It was your favorite time of day. A part of you felt like having drinks on your porch alone instead of being crowded by strangers in a bar, but you knew better than to be a hermit tonight. You had told Marnie you would be there, so you would.
You could hear faint music and laughter inside as you approached the saloon. A warm glow of light emitted from the windows. You took a deep breath and walked in. The villagers were having so much fun not many even noticed you came in except Marnie. She sat in the center of the bar, smiling and waving at you. A wave of relief washed over you. You smiled and sat down
next to her.
“I’m so glad you came! I’ll have to introduce you to everyone,” She said, handing you a glass of wine—even more relief. You gulped to soothe your nerves. One by one, Marnie introduced you to some people in the town. You knew you would struggle to remember some of their names after tonight. You met Emily, tending the bar, along with Gus. Leah, an artist who had also moved to the valley from the city. Pam, who seemed like the local drunk. Willy, a sweet fisherman. Marnie pointed out other people; you determined Demetrius was married to Robin because they were dancing together. Some younger kids in the other room were Sebastian, Sam, and Abigail. A young woman with glasses suddenly sat herself next to you.
“Marnie, is this the new farmer we’ve all been hearing about?” She questioned, smiling at you.
“Yup! Y/N, meet Maru,” Marnie motioned to her.
“Hi,” you shyly said with a smile.
“Y/N is a veterinarian,” Marnie blurted out. You nodded.
“Good to have another scientist in town,” Maru giggled. “Dr. Y/N, then?” She asked. You laughed.
“Oh, no, please don’t call me doctor…except when I’m looking at your animals,” You winked, and they laughed. Maru looked in the other direction of the bar, and you saw something go off in her brain.
“I should introduce you to the only other doctor in town,” Maru giggled.
“Oh, sure, I’ve meant to meet them, actually,” You nodded. Maru took your hand and led you to a table near the jukebox. At the table sat two men having wine. One had long hair and wore a reddish coat, the other with glasses and a mustache wearing a green coat. Before you had time to think further, Maru set her hands down on the table.
“Gentlemen, this is Y/N. She just moved into Cinnamon Meadow. Harvey, she is also a doctor,” Maru said with a smirk. You briefly wondered which one she was talking to before the man in the glasses smiled.
“Is that right? I’m the town’s doctor, Harvey,” He introduced himself. You were taking him in. Handsome. Really handsome. It didn’t help you had a thing for mustaches, but he was also smart, evidently.
“I’m a veterinarian. I planned on getting my MD for a while but decided I liked animals more than people,” This raised a laugh out of them all.
“Good to meet you, doctor Y/N,” Harvey said, sipping his wine. The man with the long hair introduced himself as Elliott. You immediately let his name slip your mind because you were considering how you would further get to know Harvey. Marnie interrupted your thoughts by calling for you from the bar.
“Y/N! Come here, you gotta tell me what breed of cows you want to invest in!!” You blushed.
“I suppose I’ll see you later,” You said, mainly to Harvey. You could feel the alcohol working its way into your system, so it was probably best you get away from him now before you were completely drunk. Harvey looked a little disappointed.
“Be sure to come see me some time to get checked up,” He quickly mentioned. You nodded, smiling; maybe you weren’t just delusional, and he thought the same about you. You walked back to Marnie, but every fiber of your being wanted to stay and have another drink with him.

This reminds me of the stories my roommate in uni told me. She had a brother, nearly ten years older than herself. And how his German Shepherd had unilaterally adopted a feral kitten.
A few years before we started rooming together, her brother and his girlfriend (now wife) took their dog for an off-leash ramble in a wilderness-y area near the city they lived in. They didn’t know it at the time, but this forested area had a feral cat population.
German Shepherd got very excited over something he’d found on the ground, and came running over to them with something in his mouth. Carefully deposited a tiny, tiny kitten on their shoes.
They freaked out at first thinking the kitten was dead and their dog had killed it. Quickly realized the kitten was cold and skinny, but breathing, and uninjured except for plentiful slobber from being gently carried around in a dog’s mouth.
Girlfriend wrapped the kitten in her jacket and my friend’s brother frantically drove to the nearest vet clinic. With the dog in the backseat continually trying to poke his head in between the front seats so he could “help”.
Arrived at vet clinic, kitten put on IV and under a heat lamp to warm up. Vet informed my friend’s cousin and his girlfriend the kitten was female, about 3 weeks old, and did they want her euthanized or to take her home and bottle feed her kitten formula? They chose the latter. Unsurprisingly, given they’d rushed her to a vet.
As far as their German Shepherd was concerned, that kitten was HIS! Finders keepers. They were given instructions for how to care for a kitten that small. Put her to bed wrapped in a towel, with a heating pad underneath to keep her warm. Dog wasn’t having that, apparently.
He would pluck her out of the box in his mouth, and stick her on his stomach, where his fur was thin and his skin was warm. Then put his chin on top of her tiny body to keep her from moving out of the warm nest he’d created. She thought he was her mom and tried to suckle.
They had to get up in the night to bottle feed his kitten, which he graciously allowed. Just as well, since her kneading his stomach and suckling wasn’t actually producing milk. On account of him being a neutered male of a whole other species!
They’d been told they had to brush her hindquarters with an old toothbrush to stimulate her to pee and poop. That’s what mama cats do, apparently. Well, she didn’t much care for the toothbrush, but didn’t mind a German Shepherd grooming her pretty constantly.
So the amount of toothbrush stimulating they had to do so she’d use the litter box was less than they’d expected. Dog was totally nonplussed by the litter box, kept trying to pluck her out, apparently. They had to keep him away while she did her business, so she wouldn’t pee and poop on his fur. But he very much objected to being kept from his kitten.
Anyway, by the time my roommate and I were living together, kitten was a full grown cat, but still thoroughly devoted to her inter-species mama. She turned out rather dog like in her adult behaviour, unsurprisingly.
Although she had many cat characteristics as well. She convinced him to try and nap on top of the couch with her. German Shepherds being large dogs, he didn’t really fit on the top of the couch. But where his baby went, he was determined to go too. Roommate showed me photos her brother had sent of the cat in a cat loaf position on top of the couch, with a large dog precariously trying to imitate her.
Given how long ago I went to university, both that German Shepherd and his cat must surely be dead by now. But they had a most unusual relationship. And apparently he was fiercely protective of her whenever friends with dogs visited the house.
Cat was blissfully convinced every dog in the universe was her best friend. Since the first dog she’d ever met in her life was effectively her mother. Any dog who gave her attitude got a protective German Shepherd growling at them with a mouth full of very pointy teeth, and his body in between the unfriendly visitor and his feline protege.
At some point after I finished uni the brother and his wife had a baby. Apparently once he was big enough to crawl, the German Shepherd was eternally torn on whether to herd the human baby, or to keep an eye on his own baby.
Cat didn’t like the baby, as he pulled her tail a few times. So the cat would often leave a room when the baby toddled in. Meanwhile, the dog would dash back and forth between rooms, not willing to let either baby out of his sight for more than 3 minutes at a time.
I still have my old roommate’s email address, must send her this clip to forward to her brother.
"maybe you could love me a little less"
