I thought I'd use Solarpunk Action Week as an excuse to start reducing our diet's reliance on the top four of the ten staple crops--maize, rice, wheat, potatoes, cassava, soybeans, sweet potatoes, yams, sorghum, and plantain--that humanity is overly reliant upon.
I cooked up some amaranth to go with a lentil-tomato-feta salad and braised collard greens. The little pile of nutty amaranth was viewed initially with skepticism, but the ultimate verdict was two thumbs up.
In the future, I'll try to set aside one or two days a week where we eat amaranth or quinoa instead of rice, wheat, potatoes, or even sweet potatoes as our carb.

hey strange! So I know you’ve fed your cats the Carna4 brand for a while (correct me if I’m wrong or if thats changed) and I’ve been feeding my cat that brand also for about a year now ever since I got him (he’s 2 yo). He recently had a seizure and we discovered its due to his diet lacking thiamine/B1 vitamins. Bc Carna4 has raw fish in its ingredients it cancels out the vitamins and could leave your cat severely deficient, as mine is, according to the doc and the MRI scan. I thought I should inform you bc this has been terrifying and I don’t wish it on anyone or any cat. Pls feel free to message me if you need more info I’d be happy to share! Also my cat is an orange cat and I know breeds and genetics are a thing so maybe your cats are totally fine but I still thought you should know.
Thank you for sharing this! Wishing your orange boy a full recovery!!
I had no idea this was a thing. I also feed my cats other raw foods and treats with different protein sources but I think after reading this I will diversify their diet even more.

having such a fun time blocking everyone who says "sugar addiction definitely is real" in my notes. stop pathologising the fact that your body needs sugar to run. stop comparing normal human experiences to addiction. and if you're worried about your sugar intake, the solution is to slowly diversify your diet NOT to immediately cut out a whole heap of foods that make you happy. I acknowledge that you are struggling and it can be hard. but sugar addiction isn't real

have you been doomscrolling? feeling awful about it? do you feel out of control? does it seem your autonomy has been swallowed by the ever present beast that is the internet?
we live in the most overwhelmingly stimulating age of humanity ever seen, and it's only getting worse. our brains are sponges, soaking up whatever we smear them across, and it seems more and more difficult to find a clean surface to rest on. i'm no expert or professional, but ive been born and raised into the internet, and i'd like to hand out some wisdom regarding this.
the main issue: brain poison
since the brain absorbs whatever it's exposed to, media consumption is unsurprisingly going to effect it. the type of media, the amount of media, and the frequency of the media all play a factor.
it's not the internet itself that's bad here. it's the media on the internet, and the platforms designed to suck in our attention and keep it there until we're rotting inside our skulls.
we're never going to escape the internet. it's just a fact of life now, and a tool that can be used for wonderful things. so how do we learn to live with the internet and take advantage of its potential?
treat it like a dietary balance
staying aware of what goes in your brain is just as important as being aware of what you're eating. if you eat carelessly, don't listen to how your body feels after you eat certain things, and ignore any sickness that might result from rotten food, you're going to have a bad time and wreck your guts. the same goes for the brain.
you want to have a good mix of various types of media in the right amounts, or approximately so. if things are feeling bland, maybe diversify. if things are feeling stupid, try something more intellectual. if it's feeling too much, cut back on all of it
the following are three things you can do to maintain a sense of control and awareness over your media diet. this isnt a step by step and is in no particular order, theyre just ideas to carry forward in general any time it could be helpful.
1. digest
this is the process of thinking about and remembering what youve done throughout your time on the internet. it could apply to any period of time. so you might think, 'man, i've done nothing but watch tiktok all day.' or 'i've been scrolling twitter a lot more this past week.'
i feel like most people already do this to some extent, but it manifests as a fleeting sense of anxiety or shame that doesn't lead anywhere. analyze that feeling, and ask if it's really true or helpful.
ask if your media consumption is making you feel less focused, distracted, putting you into a brain fog, making you fall asleep when you don't want to, making you irritable and angry, drawing you into arguments, keeping you awake at night, or upsetting/disrupting you in any way.
digestion also means appreciating the good stuff and recognizing the good feelings you get too. so also ask if it's enriching you, helping you learn something new, giving you a new perspective, exposing you to something beautiful, passing the time, relaxing you, honing your focus, or generally lifting your mood.
2. cut
cut certain types of content from your life once you've decided they're not good for your media diet. block people. move on. tell youtube to stop reccomending that channel. block them. unfollow people. unfollow tags. block the tags. blacklist things. do it. forget the awful things that make your brain hurty. click the block button. uninstall the app. you know you want to
consider removing yourself entirely from websites that are designed to be attention predators. if you consistently feel like youre 'stuck' on a site and cant leave, it's probably best to just delete your account and get out of there. tiktok is NOTORIOUS for this.
i also tend to keep my following or subscribed count low. keeping the stream of content short forces me to find other things to do with my time. this goes hand in hand with things like turning off infinite scroll. it provides an 'end point' where the repetitive action of scrolling down stops bearing fruit, breaking the doomscrolling cycle. the internet is almost an infinite place, and its up to you to build walls around yourself so you arent lost in it forever.
its also important to get off the internet in general sometimes. i know this is obvious, but literally touch grass on occasion. doing anything with your physical body away from the screen will be more enriching than sitting there scrolling for hours. whether it's just a 5 minute walk around your house to stretch your legs or a 6 hour hike every weekend, part of cutting media will mean replacing it with real life. looking at some plants, doing a pushup, or working on a knitting project can be like rinsing your brain sponge under some cold, clean water.
3. curate
the flip side of cutting is curating. you'll want to be looking for media that makes you happy and feels productive or meaningful in some way. anything that not only doesnt make you feel like you wasted your time, but specifically makes you feel like you spent your time well, is a green flag.
keep in mind entertainment just for entertainment's sake is good for you too. you don't have to be watching university lectures and tutorials and stuff all day. finding high quality entertainment, such as personalities you enjoy, good production values, and inventive ideas can be really difficult. find the people who dont make you feel like a cocomelon baby and stick with them. from there you should be able to find similar content.
what's good for your soul is going to depend very much on you as an individual. this is also going to be an ongoing process as not only you but the internet both change and evolve. the important thing about this step is that you Make Decisions about what to consume. even bad decisions! it's all part of the process, and it's all about reclaiming your autonomy.
4. eat your junk food
this isn't a military drill or an exact science. i'm just a guy on tumblr with an intimate connection to his own brain and a LOT of time on the internet. that's my only credential. sometimes i want to turn that brain off and just mindlessly consume without putting any thought into what dirty dishwater is soaking into my sponge. sometimes adhd brain wants me to watch a shitty B movie in recap form so i dont have to commit to a full movie. sometimes i get stuck in the youtube shorts for like 3 hours.
that's fine. the most important part of any kind of self care is that a little bit is better than nothing. even just being aware that youre consuming something bad for you and knowing you arent ready to stop just yet is better than nothing.
thats it!!
now you should be prepared to take back some control over your media consumption. be gentle with yourself and take your time. eventually this stuff will become second nature, and you'll be effortlessly digesting, curating, and cutting media like it's just part of your personality. remember YOU have control over what the internet thinks you want to see. dont let it force feed you nasty slop anymore. let it be a reflection of your mind, not the other way around.
and good luck!

♡ Underrated Safe Foods ♡
Hii!! Since my last underrated safe food post blew up so much I thought I’d make a part two to these!
These r gonna be a lot more specific, as I’ll mention a lot of brands here (I’m in the US btw, pretty much all of these can be found at publix)
Quest protein chips - starting strong w these cause oh my god. They have around 20g of protein, 4g net carbs, and 140 cals per bag. The best part is, I cannot lie when I say these are actually SO MUCH better than any greasy calorie dense chip brand. My fav flavor is the chili lime, but there’s also loaded nacho, and the flavoring is so accurate on both!!!!/!!/ get these guys please
Enlighten bars (Sea Salt Caramel) - do you guys like ice cream bars? Do you also like them for only 80 cals?/?/? Yeah. There’s no catch like “it’s actually just frozen breast milk” or sum shit. I have no idea what they put in those things but man are they good, I wouldn’t even care if it was actually frozen breast milk
Raspberries - now you might be thinking “wdym those aren’t underrated everybody has fruit as a safe food” but nobody ever mentions the nutrients. Specifically FIBER. People always ignore fiber in their wl journey but it’s so important. Raspberries are a perfect fiber rich low cal food that you guys NEED to get on.
Kimchi - if you’re not familiar, kimchi (김치) is a korean food which is basically fermented cabbage in liek a sauce…i don’t know what the sauce is iforgot. But anyway, since it centers around cabbage, I think it’s no surprise that these are an amazing low cal option. And the best part is, the fermentation process produces a ton of healthy gut bacteria. It’s a lil bit sour so I personally don’t like it, but my friend does, and maybe that’s why he’s 15 lbs lighter than me
Egg whites - eggs themselves are amazing for wl, but you can enjoy them for a fraction of the cals. Most of the protein is in the whites anyway, so egg whites are genuinely one of the best sources of protein while also being extremely low cal. If you want, you can make your eggs with just one full egg and then mostly egg whites, and I like to sprinkle a little bit of feta in there so life doesn’t suck
Microwaved fiber one brownies - a little bit specific, but why eat your fiber brownie when it’s dryer than this pu-
when you can microwave it for a lil bit, add sum whipped cream (don’t come for me it’s high volume so it’s not actually that many cals) and have basically a hot fudge brownie for under 100 cals. You deserve to feel something every once in a while, and though it might not be the same, the brain fog from fasting will probably hinder your ability to tell the difference
That’s all!! If you guys have any more questions feel free to ask. Hopefully this list will help you diversify your diet, because I can imagine biting into your 3rd cucumber of the day just makes you sad.

you know how some zoos do “nice animal” and “naughty animal” of the week? i don’t know if your aquarium has any particularly naughty animals (the snails are sinless) but do you think you could pick a few of each for us?
I think our naughtiest animal is probably Neptune the lobster because he escaped and went on a whole adventure in the ocean for a week before we got him back. Other naughty animals are Elvis the lobster (because she’s just full of rage and tries to fight us all the time) and the Big Hermit Crab because he steals the whelk’s food.
Nice animals of the week are Diesel the giant crab because he’s just a very polite boy and Conner the cunner because he ate a mussel and a chunk of herring (and he used to spit out anything that wasn’t Cubed Shrimp Meat but we are trying to diversify his diet)
#asks#best fishes#we should start doing a nice and naughty animal of the week#that would be fun for when we open next summer

Excuse me, Vamp, how does it feel to know you have every single correct opinion about creepypastas ever?
(You're one of the first blogs I've seen where I almost 100% agree with everything you post, and I love all your character designs and how you don't make them all thin like people usually do lol)
it feels pretty good. on drawing them not all skinny i guess i kinda get why some ppl do it bc back in 2012 that was the normal thing to do but i do hope that ppl try to diversify them! after all theyre all misfit freaks and theres no way in hell they are all 100% in shape and eating healthy diets no matter how hard their father may try. also jeff literally does not look thin in his canon photo

The other anon should shut the fuck up about your liver, the actual concern should be your kidneys. High protein diets can impair renal function. Kidneys don’t regenerate like the liver. Consider whey protein supplements, it’s important to diversify your diet, you don’t want malnutrition / vitamin deficiency. Take it easy.
I drink smoothies

Why the hell does "diversifying your media diet" mean hating basically fucking everything made within basically the past 15-20 goddamn YEARS to you Ginger?? I'm really fucking trying here, but pretty much EVERYTHING new that's been released within the past two DECADES gets thrown into your joyless goddamn cesspool of soul-sucking myopia. Kind of fucking hard to "find more things to like" (by your standards anyways), when basically ANYTHING that’s been made (seemingly) since you were a teenager and just REFUSED to goddamn grow up anymore. Is absolutely despised and TORN APART by you for (as far as I can tell) the most utterly arbitrary crap fucking EVER!!!
From hating stories because they were made/written by LGBTQ+ artists, to because they obviously fucking fit into an EXTREMELY broad and overgeneralized genre type, to because they didn’t pander to whatever bizarre/media illiterate standards you claim to fucking have from DAY TO DAY. I find it utterly SHOCKING you’ve been able to more than FIVE fucking shows/movies over the course of your ENTIRE misery wallowing life up to this goddamn point. Let alone that you demand other people to do the POLAR fucking opposite of what you’ve done your entire life. And actually ENJOY media outside of painfully myopic, joyless goddamn standards, rather rejecting it based on the most fucking idiotic and hyper-specific standards that NO creator could possibly ever hope to fucking meet!!!
(Without just consulting you personally on every goddamn decision that they make. And essentially ending up just making an inherently repulsive/alienating story that would appeal to you and you ALONE, that is)
You know I normally just throw a random jpeg up and don’t bother paying this any more kind but for the sake of all of the people who haven’t gone through my letterboxd yet here’s a short list of some movies I gave 5 stars released from the years 2014-2024
Bear in mind this is only a fraction of what I’ve seen and I didn’t include any 4 star films or everything I’ve specifically “liked” from this era. Just the 5 star knock outs that go above and beyond the high standard.

The Ultimate Guide to Unveiling: Health Benefits of Veg Chicken
Introduction: Exploring the Wonders of Veg Chicken
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the extraordinary health benefits of Veg Chicken! In a world where dietary preferences and health-conscious choices are becoming increasingly prevalent, veg chicken emerges as a delightful alternative that not only satisfies the palate but also offers a plethora of nutritional advantages.
Understanding Veg Chicken: A Nutritious Alternative
What Exactly is Veg Chicken?
Veg chicken, often referred to as plant-based chicken or meat alternatives, is a protein-rich substitute crafted from a blend of plant-derived ingredients. These innovative products mimic the taste, texture, and appearance of traditional chicken, providing a savory experience without the use of animal-derived components.
Nutritional Composition of Veg Chicken
Despite its meat-free nature, veg chicken boasts an impressive nutritional profile. Rich in plant-based proteins, essential vitamins, and minerals, this delectable alternative offers a wholesome dining experience without compromising on nutritional value. From soy and pea protein to vital nutrients like iron and B-vitamins, veg chicken serves as a commendable source of sustenance for individuals seeking a balanced diet.
Unveiling the Health Benefits of Veg Chicken
1. Protein Powerhouse
Protein serves as the building block of life, playing a crucial role in muscle repair, growth, and overall cellular function. Veg chicken, abundant in plant-based proteins, offers a fulfilling protein source suitable for vegetarians, vegans, and individuals looking to reduce their meat consumption. Incorporating veg chicken into your diet ensures adequate protein intake, supporting muscle development and enhancing satiety levels.
2. Heart Health Promotion
One of the most notable advantages of veg chicken lies in its potential to promote heart health. Unlike conventional meat products, which may contribute to elevated cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risks, veg chicken offers a heart-friendly alternative. Low in saturated fat and cholesterol-free, veg chicken aids in maintaining optimal blood lipid levels, reducing the likelihood of heart-related ailments and enhancing cardiovascular well-being.
3. Weight Management Support
In the pursuit of a healthy weight, dietary choices play a pivotal role. Veg chicken, with its low-calorie content and high protein density, emerges as a valuable ally in the battle against excess weight. By fostering feelings of fullness and satisfaction, veg chicken helps curb cravings and promotes portion control, facilitating weight management endeavors without sacrificing flavor or nutritional value.
4. Environmental Sustainability
Beyond individual health benefits, embracing veg chicken aligns with broader environmental sustainability efforts. Traditional livestock farming practices often exert a significant ecological footprint, contributing to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and water pollution. In contrast, veg chicken production entails fewer environmental repercussions, making it a more eco-conscious choice for conscientious consumers striving to reduce their carbon footprint.
Incorporating Veg Chicken Into Your Culinary Repertoire
Creative Cooking Ideas
From savory stir-fries to succulent sandwiches, the versatility of veg chicken lends itself to a myriad of culinary creations. Experiment with diverse recipes and cooking techniques to unlock the full potential of this plant-based delicacy. Whether you’re grilling, sautéing, or baking, veg chicken serves as a canvas for culinary innovation, allowing you to craft wholesome meals that tantalize the taste buds and nourish the body.
Dietary Diversity Enhancement
Integrating veg chicken into your dietary regimen introduces a refreshing dimension of variety and flavor. Whether you’re a seasoned vegan or a curious omnivore, incorporating veg chicken into your meals diversifies your palate and broadens your culinary horizons. Embrace the culinary adventure and savor the delectable delights of veg chicken in all its forms, from classic favorites to bold, inventive dishes.
Conclusion: Embracing the Virtues of Veg Chicken
In conclusion, the health benefits of veg chicken are as diverse as they are remarkable. From its protein-packed prowess to its heart-healthy attributes and environmental sustainability, veg chicken embodies the epitome of nutritious innovation. By incorporating veg chicken into your dietary repertoire, you embark on a journey of culinary discovery and wellness enhancement, reaping the rewards of a plant-powered lifestyle.

i get frustrated when people think the (admittedly very silly) stuff i write/draw is all i ever think about, but i guess maybe the people who think that are projecting; maybe they themselves consider art appreciation and fandom blogging to be fully synonymous with nothing left over, so it's hard to grasp that someone who mostly only posts dumb gay ship art might have a deeper understanding of the text and its themes than making the characters kiss. like, gay ship art and pinup girls get clicks and dollars, so of course i'm not going to be posting dissertations about steinbeck and hemingway when people are willing to pay me money to draw cartoon girls with pointy horns and wide backsides. and besides, my connection to the themes in the art i like is often very private and personal!
fandom blogging is only the surface of how i engage with art, and it's kind of frightening when i see people enthusiastically proclaim it's the be-all end-all for them and their art diet. it feels like baking some double-chocolate cookies for someone for a special event, and when i say "yeah i just like to have these as a little indulgent treat here and there :)" they say "oh i eat like this all the time!! i fucking hate eating actual meat and veggies, they're so gross!!" i just want to yank the tray of cookies away because i do NOT want to be complicit in that kind of habit. and then they wonder why they're hungry and cranky and achey all the time, and decide they just need more flavors of cookies. you have a vitamin deficiency! diversify your art diet!!
#you see this a lot with folks who think fandom opinions constitute activism or whatever#imo you need to know how to read a book cover-to-cover and then Not do fandom stuff about it. it's vital to your brain health i think#idk where i was going with this but it's something i think about a lot 🤔#shebbz shoutz
