Hello! This is a post from Rory of the Criminal Minds sub-system, and it contains discussion of oddly specific sub-system and memory related trauma. ⚠️CW ⚠️ for childhood trauma, neglect and abandonment.

Key Lines:

My sour boy, he’s a pain, I wanna shoot him in the brain. But I’d miss him in the morning.

What This Means to Me:

This reminds me of Ed. While I miss him and want to remain close, he repressed me for quite a while and that results in some strain. I want to be the only one in the system, but we were really close at a point, and I’d miss him.

But I need to understand, when I can power through and when I need some help from you

What This Means to Me:

This line reminds me that sometimes we do need to work as a system to get things done, and that everyone has a purpose.

I wanna make a color that no one else has seen before, I wanna be so much more

What This Means to Me:

I want to be my own person, expressing myself in ways separate from anyone else.

Sometimes I act like I know but I'm really just a kid, with two corks on his eyes and a bully in his head

What This Means to Me:

I feel like I’m always expected to be the one with the answers. While feeling like this, I want to yell that this is my first time on earth. The second half reminds me of how Ed sees me, as a bully, when what I want is to protect him.

Key Lines:

I'm trying to love the person I was when I was born, hating on a kid doesn’t serve me anymore

What This Means to Me:

This line makes me remember the fact that, when we were born, we didn’t do anything “wrong” to become a system. Only because people in our past have hurt us do we feel like we have a right to hate ourselves. This feels like self acceptance and like realizing Ed isn’t the enemy, I’m not the enemy, and neither is Heidi. We’re just together, trying to get through it.

Think systems with a high number of fictional introjects are a new phenomena? Kluft's paper on polyfragmented/extremely complex DID from 1988 includes a patient with LOTR introjects, and another based off of Shakespear's Tempest. Fictional introjects have been a thing for a very long time!

Treating your headmates like separate people isn't worsening your condition by default by the way. Treating them with respect isn't making you dissociate more. Final fusion is a fine thing to try and achieve, but people need to understand that functional multiplicity is a thing you can work to achieve in therapy too. Please stop pushing the idea that you need to treat your headmates like a disorder or curse in order to heal. You can be happily multiple if you want that.
