So I've been trying to find a specific set of fics for a while now and I can't, so I'm gonna lost the aspects I remember and hope someone can help find it
The main premise was Bruce Wayne's bio daughter who was kidnapped as a child before reuniting with the family in her late teens/early adulthood
The reader becomes batgirl with a suit described as being essentially a fem version if Bruce's suit
The reader only knew Dick, and maybe Jason, before being kidnapped and she called Dick "Ducky"
She was taken by the League of Assassins, maybe even Talia specifically
The general tone of the posts was more lighthearted and fluffy then overt angst
If anyone knows the posts I'm talking about then please let me know!! I wish to re-read them badly!!

Thea's Quest ~ Ch. 8
Tumblr media
Chapter 8: Homefront
Summary: Thea’s having some boy trouble so she turns to Artemis. A strange but eerily familiar enemy attacks the cave.
Warnings: Canon typical violence, impostor syndrome ig
Word Count: 4.9k
Masterlist: Thea's Quest
A/N: I skipped the Terrors episode bc it’s very M’gann/Conner focused but I have an idea of what’s happening to Thea during that day. If you’re interested, let me know and I can write it up or just post the bullet points!
Also this is the longest thing I’ve ever written but I’m so happy with it. I got to add a lot of fun bonding moments with Thea, Artemis, and Robin, so I hope you enjoy. :)
~~~
Being a couple weeks out from the last few missions, Thea was finally fully healed. Even with spending most of her time in the cave, though, she was also quite bored. Thea was sitting in the kitchen having a snack when Kaldur walked through the space.
“Hey, Kaldur!” Thea called, jumping up to join him.
The Atlantean startled.
“Oh, hello, Thea.” He replied kindly, but Thea could tell he wasn’t totally present.
“Hey, what’s up?” She asked, concerned.
“It’s nothing. I’m going to talk with Tornado.” He explained.
“Okay, yeah, let’s go.” Thea said with a smile, turning to walk toward the hangar.
“I need to speak with him alone, actually.” Kaldur spoke quietly.
Thea stopped. Glancing over her shoulder, she could tell he felt guilty. It was weird for Kaldur to pull rank with the team. He was the leader, but he rarely excluded them from conversations. He valued their judgment - especially Thea’s, or so she thought.
Thea’s eyebrows furrowed. His secrecy was giving her a familiar, uncomfortable sensation. She chalked it up to paranoia from her past with Luke, forcing a small smile to her face.
“Yeah, of course, okay.” She remarked.
“Thank you.” Kaldur muttered as he walked past her, out of the room.
Feeling on edge, Thea decided she needed to distract herself. Everyone else on the team was at school, but Thea texted Artemis anyway. They were good friends, and Thea would often receive messages from Artemis during the school day with updates on gossip or complaints about teachers and classmates, even the occasional meme.
 I need a distraction, want to hang out later? Thea messaged.
Almost immediately there was a response.
Meet me after class. We can grab coffee.
Where should I meet you? Thea asked.
A notification came through from the maps app with a pin at Artemis’ location. Pulling it up, Thea was puzzled by the address; Artemis was at Gotham Academy. Knowing the girl’s private nature, Thea decided not to mention it.
Perfect! See you soon.
~~~
Later, Artemis and Thea sat outside at a coffee shop. Thea was grateful to her friend for providing some relief, but Artemis looked so tense that she seemed to have a new problem.
“Is everything alright?” Thea asked as Artemis took a sip of her drink.
The blonde choked on her drink and had to cough.
“Oh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean anything by it. I just – I’m your friend. I know you’re maybe not telling the whole truth to the team and that’s fine! If you want to tell me anything, I’m here for you – just to listen. And I’d never tell the team anything. If anything, I’m honored that you trust me enough to show me where you go to school. You don’t have to explain anything. I’m sorry. I’m rambling.”
At that point, Artemis was giggling at the girl across from her. Thea felt a little silly, trying so hard to make a friend and tripping all over herself, but she was glad to see Artemis’ shoulders finally lower below her ears.
“Thanks, Thea.” Artemis said.
Thea could tell she wasn’t going to get more out of her, but was glad she was slowly gaining some trust.
“Anyway, why did you need to get out of the cave so badly?” Artemis asked, turning the questioning on Thea. “It wouldn’t have anything to do with our resident fish boy, would it?” She teased.
Thea’s face dropped. Artemis backtracked quickly.
“Hey, I didn’t mean – if Kaldur did something–”
“No, no. It’s not that. Or at least – I don’t think so. Ugh. It’s complicated. He just– He reminds me of someone.” Thea assured.
Artemis softened.
“I’m always here if you want to talk.” She said.
“Thanks.” Thea said with a sad smile. “But I don’t think I’m ready yet.”
“Cheers to that!” Artemis laughed.
~~~
As the afternoon wore on, the girls decided to go back to the cave to spar for some training. Artemis changed into her suit and Thea followed along in civies, though she had brought her dagger with her. They were walking into the alleyway to zeta back to Happy Harbor when a voice made them jump.
“Artemis?”
“Robin!” Artemis exclaimed, startled.
Their young teammate emerged from the shadows; he stood in front of the zeta tube.
“How random that you're in Gotham City, instead of Star City where your Uncle Green Arrow lives.” He noted with a smirk.
Thea’s eyes narrowed. She could tell Robin knew more than he let on and was teasing Artemis. Thea found herself getting defensive on Artemis’ behalf – she clearly didn’t want to talk about it!
“I'm, uh, here to see my cousin. She was in the state spelling bee here in Gotham City.” Artemis lied.
“C-O-O-L. Did she W-I-N?” Robin said, going along with it.
“N-O.” Thea said brusquely, stepping up beside Artemis.
Robin startled as he realized Thea was there too.
“D-R-A-G.” He smirked, recovering quickly.
“Yeah. Let's just go to the cave.” Artemis said tersely.
“Ladies first.” Robin gestured to the zeta tube disguised as a phone booth.
“Your town. You go.” Artemis insisted.
Robin shrugged and opened the door. The machine announced his departure.
“What a little shit.” Thea stated once he was gone.
Artemis huffed out a laugh.
“Truly.” She acknowledged, stepping into the zeta tube with a snicker and a salute.
Thea followed behind her.
~~~
As soon as she stepped out of the zeta tube, Thea was hit with fire. The light was blinding, and the heat caused the hair on her arm to singe. Her demigod reflexes kicked in, flooding her with adrenaline, as she turned to shield her body best she could.
“Thea!” She heard Artemis call from somewhere off to her left.
The blast let up, though not without having done some damage, and Thea ran to her friend. Reaching Artemis, she found Robin too, and the three of them booked it for the showers. As they ran, Robin attempted to contact the rest of the team to no avail. When they got there, Robin started turning on all the faucets before shoving Thea under a stream of cold water.
“Di Immortales!” Thea hissed, as the water hit her raw skin.
“How injured are you?” Robin questioned urgently.
Thea felt breathless, but quickly snapped into triage mode.
“It’s probably only a first degree burn, and mainly my right arm.” She said, assessing the damage.
Artemis was pacing behind her.
“I’m okay.” Thea assured, struggling as she floundered for her satchel.
“I got it.” Artemis stepped in. “What do you need?”
“Just open it?” Thea asked.
Artemis did as asked, and Thea grabbed a clear flasked labeled “nectar” and took a swig.
“There. I’ll be fine.” She assured Artemis.
“At least the water is helping.” Robin suggested.
Don’t tempt the Gods. Thea was about to say, when they heard a low groaning noise. The water pressure exploded and the shower heads fell from the walls. The room started filling with water.
“Or not.” Robin mumbled, taking a gulp of air before ducking under water and swimming toward one of the walls.
“What in Hades?” Thea asked herself.
Seconds later, Robin’s explosives went off and the three were pushed out of the room on a small wave.
~~~
“We need to get lost.” Robin declared as they stood up and coughed, running for the kitchen.
Thea looked around, scanning for an exit.
“The air vent.” She said, breathless.
“Good. Go.” Robin said.
Thea grabbed Artemis’ arm and pulled her toward the vent. Suddenly, they realized Robin had stopped.
“What are you–” Artemis started.
“Downloading blueprints. Could come in…” Robin explained, trailing off as they heard footsteps approaching.
“Go, go.” Robin whispered.
Thea hoisted Artemis into the vent, doing the same for Robin before following suit, not bothering to close the grate behind them.
“Go left.” Robin muttered directions from between them.
Just as Thea made the turn, crawling right at Robin’s heels, there was a blast of fire through the part of the vent they were just in.
“Styx.” Thea swore, startled.
“Ugh. Too close. Take the first right.” Robin concurred, continuing to give directions. “There should be a vent cover right in front of you.”
Artemis popped the grate, and the three of them slid down the pipe, dropping into the boiler room.
“This way.” Robin directed, the three of them running through the room.
Thea’s arm still stung, but thanks to her demigod constitution, she wasn’t too slowed down, still able to keep pace with Artemis and Robin.
From above, there came a metallic thud. The three heroes looked over to see a wall of fire, and within it, a humanoid silhouette. As they raised their arms, the fire grew taller, the room quickly filling with smoke.
“Let’s go, let’s go.” Thea mumbled, not wanting to stick around any longer.
As they ran, the boiler room started heating up, everywhere they looked it seemed there was a new alarm going off or pipe bursting with steam.
“That's not good.” Robin noted.
The three of them ran behind more machinery as fire started raining down on them. Robin pulled up the blueprints again.
“I know that other access tunnel is here somewhere.” He muttered to himself.
Thea scanned the floor, seeing a vent cover and making a beeline for it. Artemis followed.
“You mean this one?” She asked, getting Robin’s attention as Thea hopped down into the vents, waiting to make sure her teammates followed.
~~~
As soon as they were all in the vent, Thea started crawling forwards, Artemis hot on her heels.
“Hold on.” Robin called. “Locking cave's motion and heat sensors to prevent the enemy from tracking us.” He explained.
Thea frowned as the technology went over her head, but she waited patiently for Robin to do… whatever it was he was doing.
“And I ask again, who is the enemy?” Artemis said, frustrated.
Robin shrugged, then a mischievous smile grew on his face.
“Let's find out. Downloading cave security footage... There.” He said, satisfied.
Thea, Artemis, and Robin watched the camera footage from earlier in the cave. They saw an overhead angle of Wally, M’gann, and Conner working on the bike while Kaldur watches from next to them. Thea felt a pang of guilt as she saw their faces – she had abandoned them over a paranoid hunch. Maybe if she had just stayed in the cave this wouldn’t be happening and they would all be safe. Thea glanced back down at Robin’s holo watch as the recording’s audio started.
“Torque wrench.” Wally called from under the bike.
M’gann handed it to him with her telekinesis.
“Thank you, Green-Cheeks.” Wally replied.
“I have been meaning to ask. Any problem juggling school work with your responsibilities here?” Kaldur asked, checking in.
“No. Juggling's just one of my many talents. Socket wrench.” Wally replied breezily.
“Cheerleading practice has presented a challenge. Oh, but my first loyalty is always to the team. This team, not the Bumblebees.” M’gann said.
“Artemis starts school today. Do you think she will have trouble maintaining her loyalties?” Kaldur asked.
Thea frowned at his words. His phrasing was weird, and something just seemed off. She couldn’t help herself from feeling suspicious.
“Eh, she'll manage all right. I mean, how much more hostile and annoying can–?” Wally started to talk and then suddenly, static.
“What happened?” Artemis asked.
“Explosion. I'll find another angle.” Robin replied quickly, already typing away.
He pulled up the rest of the cameras. With these new angles, they could see fire and water in different places, but still couldn’t really tell what happened.
“That's it. All four are dead.” Robin sighed.
Thea’s eyes widened as she realized how his words sounded. She hit him on the arm.
“The cameras! I meant the cameras. Uh, I'm sure the others are okay.” He stuttered. “Give me a sec to find the fastest route to the hangar.”
“Yeah. They're fine. They've all got superpowers. They can handle anything.” Artemis muttered, trying to calm herself.
Thea frowned. She knew firsthand that superpowers won’t always save you in a fight. Surely if they could, Thalia would still be around. It felt weird, as a demigod Thea had “powers,” but both Artemis and Robin were so well trained that in this situation she merely had average capabilities – especially with an injury holding her back. She felt a wave of hopelessness wash over her: once again, people she cared about were in trouble, and even her godly lineage didn’t seem to count for anything.
~~~
Robin led them through the vents and into the library. The three began to navigate the bookshelves, searching for an exit.
“There's a secret passage behind one of these.” Robin told the girls, pulling at books trying to open the mystery door.
“Seriously? Cliché much?” Artemis muttered.
“You should see the Batcave.” Robin teased.
But Thea wasn’t paying attention to their words, standing still as they grabbed at different spines.
“Shh. Do you hear that? Footsteps.” She murmured, jogging over to them as they all crouched down.
They heard a mechanical voice begin to speak.
“Artemis. Robin. Thea.”
“It's Red Tornado.” Artemis gasped, rushing out of their hiding spot.
Robin’s eyes widened, and Thea instinctively shot out to grab Artemis’ shoulder and shove her out of the way.
“Yes on the Red, no on the Tornado.” Robin announced, following the girls as they ducked under a table, running away from the red machine.
Immediately, they were confronted with another, this time with a feminine build. She stepped out from behind some bookcases, shooting fire from her palms. The kids turned and ran, hopping over shelves to put some distance in between them and the machines.
“Who...? What are they?” Artemis asked, pressed.
With the fire in the room, the ceiling sprinklers activated, suddenly wetting the room. One of the machines hit a bookshelf, sending a domino tower falling toward the heroes. Robin finally found the right book, opening the secret passage as the three of them jump through to (at least momentary) safety.
~~~
The heroes landed in a series of tunnel like hallways, Artemis and Thea following Robin as he ran ahead.
“Unh, did you know Tornado had siblings?” Artemis panted as they ran.
“No.” Robin replied simply.
Thea frowned at the reply, but kept running. When they reached an intersection of hallways, Artemis grabbed Robin’s arm, bringing them to a stop.
“So now what? Red Tornado is one of the powerhouses of the league. How are we supposed to take down two of him?”
“They do seem pretty user-unfriendly.” Robin commented with a sad smile.
Thea huffed softly at the reply.
“Don't joke. They–” Artemis got cut off by an automated voice over the intercom.
“Attention, Robin. Attention, Artemis. Attention, Thea. You have exactly 10 minutes to surrender or the lives of your teammates will be extinguished.”
The threat made Thea pause, immediately concerned for the rest of the team now that they know for sure they’ve been captured.
“We need to move.” Thea announced.
As Thea, Artemis, and Robin ran through the corridors, the countdown continued.
“Eight minutes.”
“We can access the hangar from here.” Robin told the girls.
They stopped as they heard something coming at them from behind. Turning around, they saw a massive wave of water rushing their way.
“Or not.” Robin concluded.
“Will you please stop saying that?!” Artemis stressed.
Thea grabbed both of their arms, pulling them into a run. It wasn’t enough, they didn’t get very far before the water swept them off their feet.
Thea gasped as the water hit them, submerging them quickly. She managed to swim toward Robin and Artemis. She knew she wouldn’t be able to hold her breath for too long, but she was a strong swimmer after years of training in the Long Island Sound at camp. She swam over to Robin and Artemis, eyes widening gratefully as Robin passed her a rebreather.
All of a sudden, Artemis was pulled back. Her eyes widened as she screamed. Thea and Robin swam toward her, realizing she’s been grabbed by the water android. Thea grasped Artemis’ arm to try to pull her friend to safety while Robin grabbed one of her arrows, jamming it into the robot’s head and freeing her. As soon as Artemis was released, Thea and Robin hooked their arms under hers and they swam to safety, emerging in the hangar moon pool. In front of them, Wally and Conner were trapped in some lava-like stone.
“Look out!” Wally warned as they pant for air.
They looked up to see a fireball coming their way and ducked under the water, emerging a few feet away, closer to the boys.
“You guys okay?” Robin asked them.
“Forget us. Help M'gann.” Conner demanded, nervous.
Thea glanced up, heart clenching in fear as she saw M’gann and Kaldur trapped in a cage of fire.
“Aqualad. Is she…?” Artemis asked, trailing off in fear.
“She is unconscious. I fear she... we cannot survive much longer.” He explained.
A wave of guilt washed over Thea. Her earlier suspicion was gone and replaced with shame and fear. All she’s ever wanted is to save her friends, and all she’s ever done is fail.
~~~
The fire machine returned, and Thea, Artemis, and Robin dove under the water again, evading her. They emerged on the stairs, climbing up to the main floor of the hangar. Behind them, the water machine followed. The heroes took defensive stances. On their other side, at the top of the stairs, the fire android touched down, cornering them in.
“I'm almost out of arrows.” Artemis warned.
“Distract her. Now.” Robin instructed.
Artemis shot an explosive arrow toward the android, setting off a flash of smoke. Thea grabbed her arm and they ducked out of the way. At the base of the steps, Robin tried and failed to throw explosives onto the other android. He shot a wave of water at the heroes right as the other android threw a ball of fire. Thea, Artemis, and Robin dove back into the water, swimming through an underwater grate and emerging back in the vent system.
The countdown resumed.
“Six minutes.”
“What do we do now?” Artemis asked, feeling defeated.
“We save them. That's how it works.” Robin replied coolly.
“Maybe that's how it's supposed to work, but those robots already took out our four superpowered friends.” Artemis pointed out.
Thea spaced out, her tactical mind working a mile a minute. She checked her pockets, finding only her dagger and a few golden drachma.
“How can you be so calm?” She heard Artemis ask Robin
“Practice. Been doing this since I was 9.” Robin said, unworried.
Thea immediately felt protective of the boy. She was reminded of the feeling of meeting seven year old Annabeth: this is just a kid. In that moment she knew deep in her bones that no harm would come to Robin while she’s around.
“What good is that now?” Artemis pleaded.
“We just have to think.” Thea jumps back in. “Jason and Medea harnessed a mechanical bull in Colchis.” She pondered aloud.
“Thea, this is no time for a history lesson! In case you haven’t noticed, we’re not Jason or Medea! What chance do we have against unrelenting machines?!” Artemis snapped worriedly.
Before Thea could reply, Robin realized something.
“Oh, duh! They're machines.” He emphasized. “And one electromagnetic pulse will shut down any machine within range.”
Thea nodded along, pretending she understood what they’re talking about. But she didn’t need to know what an ‘electromagnetic pulse’ is in order to help. Even a bad plan is better than no plan.
“Great. Except you better have an EMP emitter in your utility belt, cuz I know I don't have one in my quiver.” Artemis replied.
“I'm fresh out. But I'm betting we can make one.” Robin said with a smirk.
“What do you say, KF? Doable?” He asked through the coms.
“Totally doable.” Wally replied.
“Five minutes.” The android’s countdown warned.
“You know, if you had more time.” He amended.
~~~
Regardless of their odds, the heroes figured they had to try. Wally talked through Robin’s com as he, Thea, and Artemis worked their way around the cave, making an emp emitter.
“Med lab. X-ray machine.” He instructed.
Thea and Artemis watched as Robin followed Wally’s instructions.
“Find a small vacuum tube called a vircator that converts high-energy pulses. Reprogram the unit's microwave conversion from x-rays to EMPs with a cascading energy vector directed outward.”
“A ripple effect! Like dropping a stone in a pond.” Robin muttered.
Artemis and Thea made eye contact, not understanding a word coming out of the boys’ mouths.
“A stone with 10 to the 12th power wattage, yeah.” Wally affirmed.
“So I need to hook it up to the cave’s main generator.” Robin planned.
“Which is where?” Artemis asked.
Robin sighed, Thea frowned, eyes wide, as she realized what he was about to say.
“Oh, gods.” She muttered.
~~~
The plan itself was simple, not that many steps, everyone knew their roles. But Thea was wary, the likelihood of complication was… high.
“Four minutes.” The mechanical voice narrated from the intercom as Thea, Artemis, and Robin snuck back into the hangar.
“Okay, make with the distraction.” Robin instructed the others.
The rest of the team began to heckle the androids as the trio snuck around, Robin ziplining toward the generator.
“Hey, Red Tomato, who's your girlfriend? Red Onion?” Wally berated.
“Yeah, and by the way, worst death trap ever. We can escape any time we want.” Conner shouted, keeping the androids’ attention on them
“Cover me.” Robin told the girls.
Artemis nocked an arrow, and Thea pulled out her dagger, nodding.
“Wally was made for this.” Thea muttered to Artemis, trying to find a moment of levity. The blonde shot her a small smile, but both of their anxieties were through the roof. They watched as Robin landed on the machine, crouching down to install the emp emitter.
“Rerouting power now.” Robin narrated through the coms.
A moment passed.
“It's not working. The circuit's incomplete.” He realized.
Thea sucked in a breath through her teeth, her body buzzing with demigod adrenaline.
“I need something conductible, a piece of metal–” He spoke.
Thea saw movement out of the corner of her eye, gaze shooting to the androids, one of whom had realized Robin was there.
“Robin, look out!” She shouted desperately, but she was too late.
Thea and Artemis watched as he was swallowed by a wave.
~~~
Thea’s earlier protectiveness came out in full force, and she had to stop herself from screaming. She and Artemis watched the scene with baited breath as the android raised his arm, holding Robin in a vertical trap of water. Artemis grabbed Thea’s arm, trying to pull her away and back into the cave.
“Thea! Come on, we have to go!” Artemis hissed in a frantic whisper.
The jostling of her arm was what it took for Thea to snap back into her body. She shook Artemis off quickly.
“N–no, no. I can’t leave him. I won’t!” Thea replied, searching Artemis’ eyes desperately.
The girls gazed at each other in distress. Artemis realized in that moment that nothing would pull Thea away from Robin. But she didn’t have a plan. Feeling tears gather in her waterline, Thea took Artemis’ hand and squeezed it gently. Artemis’ eyes widened, Thea nodded. Artemis squeezed back, the pain and guilt and fear clear in her eyes. Then she turned and ran.
Thea watched her go, wishing things could have been different. She wasn’t given time to dwell. Catching movement out of the corner of her eye, Thea turned back to the scene in the hangar just in time to watch Robin fall to the floor, unconscious.
Her body moved of its own accord, jumping into action to try to save him.
She got down to the floor before being confronted by the Reds. Without any long range weapons or a plan, Thea knew she was screwed. Even so, she worked to duck and evade the attacks of water and fire, making her way toward Robin. Her instincts worked in her favor, the demigod reflexes coming in handy. But of course, good things can’t last forever.
In a moment of distraction, the water android picked up the torque wrench from the ground and sent it toward her in a stream of water.
Suddenly, Artemis’ voice alerted her. Thea turned toward her friend, brain working a mile a minute as she realizes the blonde’s plan to surrender. Before she could move toward Artemis, movement caught her eye.
Thea turned toward the torque wrench just as she saw it, only to immediately get hit in the head. She barely caught herself as she fell to the ground before everything went black.
Thea was only knocked out for a second. Propping herself onto her elbows, her eyes focused slowly, blurring before finally clearing. In a second, Artemis was at her side.
The blonde knelt down worriedly, but Thea pushed her off weakly.
“I’m fine – go check on Robin.” She murmured urgently.
Artemis glanced at her one more time before rushing over to the boy and starting CPR. As she did so, Thea’s eyes searched for her other teammates.
“Kaldur! How’s M’gann?” Conner called, while Thea slowly moved herself into a criss cross position.
The Atlantean startled slightly, glancing at the others while still holding M’gann in his lap.
“She breathes. I believe she will recover.” He assured. “What of Robin?” He called to Artemis.
As if on cue, the young boy wonder coughed weakly, turning on his side as Artemis rubs his back while he gets the water out of his lungs.
“He’s breathing too!” She exclaimed, the relief audible in her voice.
Thea sighed with relief, comforted that her friends were alright. Thea stood up shakily, moving to walk over to Artemis and Robin but immediately stumbled. Kaldur’s eyes widened with concern, seeing her struggle, as Thea sat back down and laughed at herself quietly. Fishing a piece of ambrosia out of her satchel, Thea offered him a reassuring smile and took a bite, content to rest for a moment.
~~~
Later, once everyone was relatively stable, the team got to work trying to help Wally and Conner out of their traps. Artemis held a laser cutter while Kaldur supported M’gann and Thea and Robin held each other up.
“Will you quit playing with that thing and cut us free, already?” Wally complained.
“It’s not working, genius. EMP shuts down all machines, remember?” Artemis snarked back.
Thea chuckled quietly, meeting Kaldur’s gaze and rolling her eyes fondly before being startled by a mechanical voice.
“All machines present at the time.” Red Tornado corrected, touching down near the team. “What has occurred?” He asked.
Artemis and Wally scoffed.
“We had a visit from your family.” Robin muttered.
“Your extremely nasty family.” Artemis sassed.
“I was not aware I had relations.” Tornado said.
“Where have you been?” Conner asked, all of them feeling rightfully confused, and a bit angry.
“Monitor duty on the Watchtower. When it became clear cave communications were down I attempted to investigate, but your zeta tubes were also non-functional. I transported to Providence and proceeded here.” The android explained, walking over to the nonfunctioning android “siblings.”
The sudden buzzing from the laser caught all of their attention.
“Hey, boy.” Conner murmured kindly as Sphere rolled over.
“The pulse has worn off.” Robin and Wally realized in tandem.
Suddenly, Red Tornado froze. He rose into the air, creating twisters and psyphoning the oxygen out of the room. Thea grabbed a falling M’gann, breaking her fall only slightly. The air was getting thinner, and Thea was already dizzy. The room started to spin. Ahead of her, Thea saw Robin hit the ground.
“No!” She tried to call, but all that came out was a puff of air before once again, everything went black.
~~~
“Thea, Thea. Come on, Thea.” A feminine voice murmured.
Something felt wrong. Forcing open her eyes, Thea saw the blurry outline of a figure, simultaneously familiar and a stranger all at once. The details morphed and faded, but she could make out the concerned pinch of her brow.
A bright light flashed in her eyes. Thea squeezed them shut, opening them again to find Black Canary kneeling over her.
“Holy Hera.” The demigod groaned.
Above her, Dinah breathed a sigh of relief. Sending a subtle nod to Batman, she turned her attention back to the girl.
“I know. You’re okay. You’re safe now.” She assured, carefully helping Thea up.
Looking around, the girl saw a collection of leaguers gathered around the team. Most were with their proteges. Taking a quick headcount, Thea couldn’t find Wonder Woman.
“Diana’s on a league mission, but they’re wrapping up and she’ll be on her way back soon. I’ll get you back to her apartment, stick around until she’s back.” Dinah murmured, answering Thea’s silent question and rubbing her back soothingly.
Thea nodded, taking in her words, then winced.
“I think I’m concussed.” She muttered.
Dinah chuckled sympathetically.
“I think so, too.” She murmured, caring but not overprotective. “We’ll take care of you.”
Thea offered her a weak smile, turning her attention back to the rest of the team.
“What happened here?” Superman asked Artemis.
“What happened? The reds happened.” The archer replied, anger coming through clearly in her voice. “Tornado and his– wait. What? Where are they?” She stuttered.
“Gone. All three of them: gone.” Robin answered gravely.
Thea sighed quietly, leaning weakly into Dinah’s hold. Whatever this is, it’s only the beginning.

Now That You’re Home
Warnings: cursing, mention of kidnapping, violence, mentions of running away, injuries, let me know if I missed any :)
First part here —> Welcome Home
Pairings: Batfamily x batsis!reader
*not my gif*
Summary: After finally getting home, things can’t be expected to go back to normal right away. You were gone for far too long
A/N: I know a lot of you have been waiting for this and I’m sorry it took so long, I kept losing the will to write it, hence why it’s not as good as the first chapter
Please don’t plagiarize my work, you may reblog if you like but I’m asking that you don’t steal my hard work

You yawned, slowly sitting up, wincing and gingerly holding your stomach, scanning the room.
In bed next to you was a peacefully sleeping Cass and Damain.
On the floor was Jason, sprawled out on his back, with Dicks foot resting on his face.
Dick himself, was sleeping half on, half off the couch, looking like if he moved even a muscle he would come crashing down onto the floor.
Steph was hanging upside down off your bed, somehow sleeping.
Tim and Barbara were nowhere to be seen, making you assume that they already got up and began their days.
It was hard to believe that it had only been last night that your family had come and saved you from that warehouse, it felt like it had been years since you were tied to that chair with a piece of tape over your mouth.
Pretty much right as you got into the batcave, Bruce made you get checked up by Alfred, and he gave you some pain medication for your head and ribs.
Then right after, Dick dragged you and your siblings up to your room, which surprisingly hadn’t changed in the slightest, and made you all have a sibling movie night.
After an hour of arguing about what you were going to watch, you finally put on your favorite movie as they continued arguing, which soon stopped them and they just began watching.
The rest of the evening was full of yelling, laughing, and junk food.
The perfect Wayne sibling night.
Apparently you had all fallen asleep, hence the uncomfortable positions most of your siblings were in right now.
The painkillers must have worn off by then, so you carefully put your feet over your bed and crept out of your room, not before taking Dicks discarded phone, snapping a photo, and sending it to your new number of the phone that Bruce gave you last night. Considering your phone was broken in the kidnapping.
You had no idea how he had one just laying around though.
You didn’t feel like walking down all of those stairs, so you hopped into the elevator that Bruce had installed for Babs and rode it down.
You got out of the elevator and walked to the living room, where you knew Alfred would be at this time, having a nice cup of tea before the rest of the children woke up and disturbed the peace.
A small smile made its way onto your face as you stepped into the living room to the sight of Alfred and Bruce drinking tea and coffee, just chatting.
“Morning.” You croaked.
Bruce’s head snapped over to you and he quickly stumbled up and over to you, taking you gently by the arm and leading you over to the couch.
Alfred looked at you with a smile, “Good morning, Miss. Y/n, how are you doing this morning?”
Last night was nice not only because you were finally able to hang out with your siblings, but also because nobody had asked or pushed you to talk about leaving.
You returned his smile and gently said, “I’m doing okay. Thank you Alfred.”
Bruce cleared his throat, “Y/n, I think we need to talk-“
“No, we most certainly do not.” Alfred cut him off sharply, giving him a warning look before turning back to you with a smile, “Care for some tea?”
“I would love some.” You said, voice full of gratitude for multiple reasons. You really didn’t know how you got on without this man.
The three of you fell back into a silence, one that seemed comfortable for Alfred, but very uncomfortable for you and your father.
The silence was thankfully broken quickly though by the sound of feet hurtling down the stairs, “Alfred! B!” The panicked sound of your eldest brother sounded through the room before any of you could even see him, “She’s gone! Y/n’s gone! I don’t know where-“ He cut himself off as soon as he sprinted into the room, skidding to a stop.
He sighed a big breath of relief, visibly relaxing.
Alfred looked at him in amusement, “She is still here, Master Dick.”
“Good.” Dick said awkwardly, rocking back and forth on his heels.
You looked up at him with a look that was a mix of guilt, concern, and sadness, he had thought that you left again.
He briefly glanced at you before quickly looking away, clearing his throat, “I’m- um- I’m gonna go get some coffee.”
With that he scurried off into the next room, stealing one more glance back at all of you.
“He thought I left.” You hadn’t meant to say it out loud, the sadness in your voice caught you off guard.
Bruce hummed, “Which is exactly why I think we need to talk-“
“Bruce!” Alfred burst out, standing abruptly, “May I have a word with you?” His tone was anything but questioning, it was demanding. He turned back to you and in a softer voice said, “I think Mistress Barbra and Master Tim are down in the Batcave if you would like to go see them.”
You nodded, quickly standing up and exiting the room, leaving your father to face Alfred’s wrath.
Sure enough, once you entered the Batcave, you were met with the sight of your older sister and younger brother typing away furiously at the keyboards of the computers.
“Morning.” You called out after a moment of them not noticing you.
Their heads snapped up at the sound of your voice and wide grins broke out onto both of their faces.
“Morning, honey.” Babs called out, beckoning you over with a hand, “How did you sleep?”
“Better than most of the others.” You responded with a small chuckle.
You watched as they both laughed a little before Tim took a large sip from his coffee mug.
“Still an addict for coffee, Timmy?” You asked with a raised eyebrow.
He looked over at you sheepishly, “You know me.”
You rolled your eyes a little, trying, and failing, to hide your amusement.
“What are you two doing up so early?” You asked, changing the topic which made Tim ‘secretly’ sigh in relief.
Babs shrugged, “Work to be done. What about you?”
“I usually get up at this time.” You copied her shrug.
Tim looked at you with a small laugh, “You used to not get up until noon.”
You cleared your throat, “Yeah, well I’m also not up until the early hours of the night every day now.”
Tim’s laugh quickly faded along with his smile and a sad look came over his face. He quickly looked down and Barbra looked away awkwardly.
A heavy silence fell over the three of you, seeming to crush down on top of you, almost making it hard for you to breathe.
“Well,” You said, “I’ll let you get back to work, sorry for interrupting.”
They didn't respond, and you didn’t wait for them to, as you quickly rushed away from the cave to try and rid yourself of the guilt you felt for what you had just said.
Why had you brought it up?
You mentally groaned and you felt like running your head through the closest wall as hard as you could.
As if on autopilot, you navigated your way through the manor. And though it had been years, you still knew exactly where everything was, almost nothing had changed.
There were still family pictures hanging on the walls alongside some expensive artwork that you could assume had been duct taped thirty times over in the back from your siblings probably destroying it.
A lot of the pictures were ones with you in it, but there were also some clearly updated and new ones.
You made your way through the maze of hallways to the place you had always gone whenever you were upset or needed some space to clear your head. The library.
Bruce had bought every single book in there for you and Jason because the two of you were the bookworms of the family.
As soon as you walked through the doors you sucked in a sharp breath, it was exactly as you remembered, besides at least six new bookshelves filled to the brim with books, down to the exact placing of the chairs and couches.
You wandered down the shelves of stories without really paying attention to anything, let alone where you were going.
You were walking down the fifth row when you suddenly ran into a hard wall and fell backwards.
A hand quickly flew out and caught you right before you could hit the ground though.
Your eyes quickly snapped open to see Jason standing above you with an amused smirk, “Watch where you’re going, Sunshine.”
Sunshine was a nickname he had given you when you were first dropped off at the manor. You had always been in a good mood back then, bubbly and full of giggles.
It seemed to annoy Jason to no end back then, and he had begun calling you Sunshine as an insult, but it ended up sticking.
A slow smile made its way onto your face as you fully stood up, “Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while.”
The black haired man scoffed, “Obviously, because I'm the only one that can call you that.”
“So true.” You said back, falling into a comfortable silence as the two of you began to wander down the aisles together.
The two of you fell back into the pattern that had been your weekly routine before you left.
You would go back and forth making new book recommendations and you would both do your best to give summaries about them without spoiling.
The peacefulness of normalcy was interrupted by Jason’s phone making a loud ‘ding’.
He grumbled under his breath and fumbled to get his phone out of his pocket. He glanced down at it for a second before announcing, “Dickie Bird says breakfast is ready.”
Your eyes widened slightly in horror, and Jason must have noticed because he quickly reassured you, “Don't worry, Alfred doesn’t let him actually cook. Just let’s Dick think that he helps.”
You breathed a small sigh in relief, “Good, I wasn’t really in the mood to have shit sprinkled with a pinch of poisoning.”
He laughed as the two of you made your way back through the hall mazes and to the dining room.
When you got there, everybody was now awake and all seated in the same seats that they sat in when you had left.
Your eyes swept across the table before they landed on the chair that was in the middle of your father and Damian, the chair that you had always sat in. And it was empty.
The thought made you sad, realizing that they had left that seat empty for you all those years, waiting for you to come home and fill it again.
You quietly made your way to the seat, hesitating only slightly before sitting down, but you were sure that your family noticed.
Across from you sat Alfred, and next to him was Tim, then Cass, Steph, and Jason.
And then next to Damian was Barbra and then Dick.
You all began to eat the pancakes in front of you in silence. And while you sensed your family sending numerous glances your way, you kept your eyes trained on your plate.
Once you were halfway through, you finally looked up and mumbled, “This is very good, Alfred. Thank you.”
You had almost forgotten how much you loved his pancakes. Almost.
“You are quite welcome, Miss. Y/n.” He said, clearly delighted that you spoke up.
Then you all fell back into the uncomfortable silence.
Bruce was the next one to break it.
“Where have you been?” His question was genuine, and there was such sadness in his eyes that you had to look away.
Your siblings all snapped their heads towards you, eagerly awaiting your answer.
Alfred on the other hand, was glaring at your father, “Master Bruce, the breakfast table is no place to discuss such things.”
Once again, you were grateful for Alfred.
“I just wanted to-“
“Enough.” Pennyworth said, face calm, but eyes raging with a fire that you hadn’t seen since you and Jason broke the most expensive piece of art in the manor by having a pillow fight.
Bruce’s mouth snapped shut and he quickly averted his eyes back to his own plate, your siblings quickly following suit.
You cleared your throat, pushing your still half full plate away, “Thank you again, Alfred.”
With that you hastily stood up and exited the room as fast as you could, avoiding eye contact with everybody.
After a moment of silence, Damain rolled his eyes and scoffed, clearly directing it towards his father, and stood up, harshly pushing his chair away from the table and stomped in the direction you had just exited.
It didn’t take him long to find you out in the backyard, sitting on a bench in the garden, knees pulled up to your chest with your head resting against them.
This was where you went whenever you and your father got into a fight.
“Sister.” Damain called out from a few feet away from you, trying not to creep up and end up scaring you.
You turned around quickly with wide eyes before relaxing when your eyes landed on your youngest brother, “Hi, Dami.” You greeted quietly, scooching over to give him room on the bench as well.
He walked over and sat down, letting silence wash over the two of you, this was something that the two of you used to do whenever something like this would happen.
You and your father would fight, then you would end up storming out into the garden and Damian would quickly follow after you.
Then you would end up sitting together for as long as it took for you to calm down. Either by talking it through or just sitting in silence, taking in the comfort that your brother gave when you had him close.
After about ten minutes of a comfortable silence, you let out a deep breath, keeping your eyes straight ahead, staring at nothing, “Thank you, Dami.”
He nodded, looking over and studying you, deciding what he should do next.
Without warning, he quickly stood up, “Come, sister.” He said in less of a commanding way and almost as a question, as if he was afraid you would say no but was trying to hide it, “I want to show you something.”
Letting your curiosity get the better of you, you stood up and followed behind your brother as he led the way through the rows upon rows of plants until he came to a stop in front of a large bush and dropped to his hands and knees.
You looked down at him in confusion and he quickly explained while trying to look under the leaves, “He normally like to hide here.”
Though you were still confused, you nodded slightly.
“Ah,” He said suddenly, “There he is.”
He stuck his arm into the bush and for a moment you were terrified that he was going to scream as it got eaten off by a wild animal, instead it slowly started coming out of the bushes, with a cat in his hand.
“Alfred.” You said in surprise, instantly recognizing the now much older cat.
Damain nodded, holding out the cat named after the butler for you to hold and pet.
“You still have him.” You said softly, gazing at the beautiful creature.
“I also have more pets.” Your younger brother said proudly, before diving into an hour long conversation and meet and greet of the rest of his pets.
The two of you were in the barn, introducing and being introduced to Batcow, when Steph came bounding through the doors with a wide smile on her face.
“Sorry, Dames.” She said, not very apologetic at all, gently taking your arm and beginning to drag you out the door, “I need to borrow our sister.”
You looked at your little brother helplessly as the blonde girl dragged you out of the barn and Damain stood with his face beginning to grow red and a glare pointed at your sister.
Before he could threaten to take his katana out though, Stephine quickly ran and exited, taking you with her as you had to run to keep up with her long strides.
When she finally came to a stop once you got inside the manor, you were gasping for air and bent over with your hands on your knees, “W-what’s up, S-steph?” You asked breathlessly.
Your sister, who wasn’t even out of breath, shrugged, “Eh, I thought I deserved some time with my sister, seeing as my little brother was hogging her all to himself.” She answered with her iconic grin.
This caused you to smile a little, “Well fair enough.”
You looked around, trying to see what room she had brought you to, and with a little shock, you realized that you were in the game room.
Looking back at her, you were about to say something until you noticed her looking at you with a now evil grin, “I Stephanie Brown, challenge you, Y/n Wayne to a game of air hockey.”
You quickly copied her look, “Oh it’s so on.”
The next hour was spent with yelling, laughing, betting, and cursing. Just like old times.
The two of you didn’t stop until you heard someone softly clear their throat from the side of the table.
You and Steph each jumped a foot in the air, letting out a little scream each, and Steph threw the puck that she was holding at the person.
Cass dodged the piece with ease and an amused smile on her face.
You sighed in relief when you realized that it was just her, “You scared me, Cass.”
She giggled quietly, and Steph rolled her eyes playfully, “That’s cause you're a scaredy cat.” She teased, and this time it was you rolling your eyes.
“If I remember correctly, it was you doing the screaming as well.”
She opened her mouth to rebuttal, only for Cass to beat her to it, “Actually, Bruce sent me to get Y/n. He wants to talk with her.”
This caused you and your sister to fall silent and for her to send you an apologetic look.
You looked down and took a deep breath before looking up at Cassandra with a clearly forced smile, “Well then, lead the way, Cassie.”
She nodded, beginning to lead you to wherever Bruce had told her to go.
On the way she started a conversation to get you caught up on some basic things that changed around the manor, like a change in breakfast cereal, or everyone’s new favorite movie.
Even though they weren’t big things, it still made you sad to hear about everything you had missed out on while being away.
You had been so caught up in your thoughts, that you hadn’t even noticed Cass had come to a stop until she put a hand on your shoulder to stop you from continuing down the hall.
With a small, reassuring smile, she quickly turned on her heel and left you to deal with your father alone.
After taking a deep breath, and seriously debating just not going in at all, you mustered up the courage to knock gently on the door.
You were met with the muffled sound of your fathers voice calling back a, ‘come in’.
With another deep breath, you pushed open the door and stepped right into your fathers office, only to find it exactly as how you had left it.
Bruce sat behind his desk and you could see him studying you carefully, before he gestured to the seat across from him, indicating that he wanted you to sit down.
You strode across the room, keeping a brave and confident exterior on, while on the inside you were squirming with nerves.
Sitting down graciously, you didn’t take your gaze away from your father and neither did he to you.
You two just sat there in silence, both of you still trying to wrap your heads around if the other was actually before you or if this was some dream that you would wake up from any moment.
“It’s been put off all day.” Bruce started, leaning back in his chair, “But I-“ He cut himself off and cleared his throat, darting his eyes away quickly, “I need to know.” His voice came out quiet and suddenly you were feeling guilty all over again.
It was weird for you, even after all these years to see your father like this. So vulnerable, so… small.
“Dad,” You began and then opened your mouth again, but no words came out.
You didn’t know what to say.
That you were sorry? That you couldn’t live his lifestyle anymore? That being Batgirl was one of the worst times of your life?
“A day never passed that I didn’t think about you guys… I missed you all so much.” You admitted, tears filling your eyes as you looked down and fiddled with your fingers.
Bruce stayed silent for another moment, “We looked for you. Everywhere.”
You nodded your head, “I figured. That’s why I changed my name.”
A pained look crossed Bruce’s face, “You changed Y/n?”
You shook your head, swallowing hard, “I changed Wayne.”
“Oh,” was all that came out.
You finally looked up, realizing that he deserved to know, and you were just being selfish not telling him, “I was in Bludhaven.”
His head snapped up and his eyes met yours, “You were?”
You nodded slightly, “And I- I left because…” You took a deep breath before letting the words tumble out of your mouth before you could convince yourself to change your mind, “I couldn’t do it. The whole vigilante thing. The violence. Staying out late every night. Never knowing if I was ever going to see my family again. I couldn’t handle it. Any of it. I wasn’t strong enough.”
It was like the weight of the world had been lifted off your shoulders when you said that.
Bruce stayed silent for one moment. Two. Three. Four.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” His voice came out so broken that you almost started crying right then and there in that chair, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to disappoint you.” Your voice was thick with emotion.
His next words surprised you, “You could never disappoint me.”
Next thing you knew, you were around the desk and had launched yourself into your fathers arms, taking him and you by surprise, but he quickly wrapped his arms around you in return, holding you in a hug that said a million things.
And you stayed like that for a while, holding each other in silence and comfort.
Then the door was slammed open, surprising the two of you so much that you each jumped a foot in the air.
Out of instinct, Bruce immediately pushed you behind him and put his hands up, ready to fight off whoever dared step foot in his office.
But instead of some random goon or attacker, all of your siblings filed into the room, Jason in the front, who you had assumed was the one who did the kicking in of the door.
Steph let out a battle cry as she emerged from the hallway and entered the room, shoving Tim out of the way, who fell with a heavy thud.
Damian followed quickly after, katana raised and ready for action.
Bruce dropped his arms to his side and scowled and you stepped out from behind him, “What are you kids doing?” He asked in a tired voice.
Before any of them could answer though, Alfred stepped into the room, not even glancing down as he stepped over Tim’s groaning form, “They all insisted that since it had been so quiet that one of you had ended up killing the other.”
You watched as your siblings came to a halt upon seeing both of you alive and well, and all shuffled awkwardly and Barbra slapped Dick’s arm and muttered something about an idiotic idea.
Dick then proceeded to gasp dramatically and shove Jason slightly, saying something about it being his plan all along, and he just rolled his eyes before motioning to Damian and muttering about the demon child being the one with a weapon.
The room then erupted in chaos as your siblings yelled at each other and Bruce and Alfred tried to calm them down.
And despite everything, you couldn’t help but allow a small smile to grow on your face.
You were finally home, and this time you weren’t going anywhere.
Eventually, your siblings calmed down after all agreeing to blame Steph (because she was the one to bring up the silence coming from the room in the first place), who was very much against that accusation, and made their way down to the living room where you all sat around as Bruce told you all to wait before he exited the room.
After a moment of silence, you cleared your throat and spoke up, “Guys, I’m sorry for every-“
“We know.” Cass cut you off with that small, kind smile that she’s so famous for.
“I just-“ You tried again.
“We know.” Babs repeated her sister.
Your eyebrows furrowed, “What do you-“
“We may or may not have been eavesdropping on yours and Bruce’s conversation.” Tim rubbed the back of his neck and avoided your gaze.
Your mouth dropped open, but you quickly smiled, “I suppose I can’t expect anything less from you guys.”
“Pennyworth was listening as well.” Damain blurted out, pointing a finger at the butler.
Alfred turned his nose up, “I am quite certain I have no idea what you are speaking of, Master Damian.”
Before the youngest could open his mouth to rebuttal, Bruce walked back into a room with something hidden behind his back.
Everyone fell silent and looked at him expectantly, so he smiled and revealed to all of you the monopoly box he was holding, and grins broke out on every single one of your faces.
The monopoly box he was holding was something that you had helped make with all of them before you had ran away, it was a DIY that held enough pieces, money, and properties to buy for everyone in your family to play at once.
The next hour was spent laughing and yelling while trying to make each other go bankrupt and keep Jason and Dick from cheating.
Jason slammed his hands down on the table, “You piece of shit!” He screamed at Damain.
“Well at least I wasn’t beaten to death by a crowbar!” The younger one yelled back.
Then it went silent and everyone snapped their heads over to you, but you just stayed quiet.
The silence lasted for about five minutes before you slowly stood up.
“I’m sorry… YOU DIED?”

the other family

This sucked
This family was the worst, you would have preferred to be in an orphanage than here.
You had been living with this stupid family for almost a decade and at no point did it seem like they cared about you.
You didn't know them that well, ever since you came to the mansion you didn't get along with anyone
Everyone seemed so focused on their responsibilities that you could never talk to any of them.
And you weren't going to beg for their attention, if they didn't give you attention you weren't going to give it to them either
You still had a little dignity and you swore to yourself to never beg anyone, you were much better than that.
Putting that aside, your life was pretty boring
You didn't go to school and you were homeschooled, plus the mansion was pretty creepy and no kid would ever come near you so you could say you didn't have any friends.
Even if you went to school you didn't think you'd have any friends either, people always said you were weird so you didn't think you'd be lucky to have any friends
Unless they want to be friends with someone as weird as you
You could say that the only one you had on your side was Alfred, he was like the grandfather you never had
He was the only one who noticed you among all the darkness that surrounded this mansion.
Your father and your brothers weren't the best, you couldn't say they were bad people.
They were just too busy dealing with their own problems that sometimes they ended up ignoring many things.
But deep down inside you wanted them to notice you.
You would like to be able to share those family moments with them, but that wish was only possible in your dreams.
_
You were walking through the halls of the mansion as usual, most of the time you spent outside walking through the gardens in the company of a strange black cat that for some reason had managed to enter the mansion
As you continued your tour you noticed a strange door, you had never seen it before which was strange since you swore you had discovered every place in this mansion
With curiosity you approached the door and opened it, it looked like a normal room
Maybe it had a little dust and cobwebs, it seemed as if no one had entered this room in years
You saw a small trunk next to a piece of furniture, those two things were the only thing in this strange room
You approached the trunk first and opened it, there was not much just some old books and trinkets
But there was something that caught your attention
A doll
But it was not just any doll, it looked too much like you it was as if it were an identified copy of you
Surprised you grabbed the doll and You examined it, it didn't look old which made it seem very strange that it wasn't dusty
It was too well preserved, you thought that maybe it was just a coincidence that it looked like you
But, you were surprised that it was wearing the same clothes that you were wearing at that moment
You tried to convince yourself that it was just a coincidence, it shouldn't mean anything
You were just overthinking things again, right?
You got up from the floor and left the doll on the small piece of furniture in the room, you began to inspect the room more closely looking for something else interesting
A few minutes passed and you found nothing, only small spider nests and the occasional rat skeleton, god, this place needs to be cleaned urgently
You were going to leave the room after not finding anything but something caught your attention, the wall looked very strange
You approached to touch it and you felt that something was out of place, as if something was inside those walls
Your curiosity was stronger and you decided to tear the wallpaper off the wall, Alfred's scolding for breaking the wall would be worth it if what was hidden between the walls was worth it
After completely tearing the wall your eyes opened in surprise, it was a small door
You crouched down to be able to better inspect the strange door, it was too small the only way to get in there was by crouching or being too small
You tried to open the door but it was locked, you frowned and let out a sigh of defeat
But then an idea entered your mind, maybe the key was between the drawers of that small piece of furniture
You quickly got up and went quickly to the small piece of furniture in the room, you started to search through all the drawers for a key but you only found buttons, needles and small blurry polaroid photos
You opened the last drawer hoping it was a key and when it appeared today you were very lucky because you found a small key, it was a little worn and had a strange shape but you didn't give it any importance
You approached the door again, you put the key in and the small door opened
You couldn't believe what you were seeing, when you opened the door you saw a small narrow hallway full of blue colors, you were very surprised and you thought that maybe it was some kind of dream but you knew it wasn't, this was real
You didn't know whether to go in or not, your instinct told you that it could be dangerous But your curiosity was too great, what kind of secrets that you still didn't know was hidden in this mansion?
You let out a nervous sigh and decided to enter this mysterious place, it may or may not be dangerous.
You really didn't know, but you were going to find out.
After entering the strange door and having to crawl to get to the other end because the space was too small, you finally reached the other side.
After a few seconds you were able to reach the other side of the narrow hallway, you slowly opened the door until you could get out of there
You stood up and looked around confused, it was the same room just a little more tidy and clean
Was this some kind of joke?
You decided to take a risk and leave the room, you began to slowly walk through the halls of the mansion
The mansion seemed more colorful and full of life
Your body stopped dead as soon as you felt arms around you from behind
You quickly turned around to hit whatever was behind you but you were surprised to see Richard
Richard
He looked the same but at the same time so different, it was the first time he hugged you like that and he was so affectionate
He had always been good and affectionate with the whole family except you, and that made you feel a little jealous of the others
"It's good that you came back, little sister, I was so worried!"
He said as he hugged you tightly, he had that worried yet sweet tone he used with everyone
You could barely process everything that was happening, you stared at him for a moment and your eyes caught something you had never seen in the original Richard
His eyes...
...
HIS EYES WERE BUTTONS!?
You stood in shock for a few seconds with your mouth open as you looked at him, you couldn't believe what was happening this couldn't be real But it felt so real
Too real
"Your...your eyes"
You said breathlessly looking at him in surprise, he just let out a small laugh at your surprise
"What's wrong with my eyes?"
"Your eyes are...they're buttons-"
Before you could finish speaking he interrupted you
"Buttons? Oh yes, it's just a small, unimportant detail"
He said without paying much attention to that detail
Your brain could barely process everything that was happening
What kind of crazy dream was this?
_
This was the best thing that ever happened to you!
Apparently Richard wasn't the only family member in the mansion, they all looked so different but at the same time so similar to their original versions
If we take away the fact that everyone's eyes are buttons, they were what you always wanted
They treated you well and were kind to you, even Damian who in your original world hated you and despised you in this world was very sweet and treated you like a real older sister to him
You did activities that you never thought they would do with you, everything was perfect
This was what you always dreamed of and you wouldn't change it for anything
You didn't remember how much time had passed since you came to this other world but you didn't care, if it was by your own decision you would stay here forever
And they wouldn't mind having you forever
_
You found yourself walking through the gardens as usual, accompanied by the black cat that you had met in your original dimension, it had appeared the first day after you came to this world
The best of all He could talk, he was a kind of guide for you and you were grateful for it
It seemed that not only your family had changed but all of Gotham
"You should be careful with them, (name)"
The cat said as he swung between the flowers and bushes in the garden
You just raised an eyebrow at the cat's comment
"Why do you say that?"
You asked curiously, since you had come to this world the talking cat had become too attached to you
And for some strange reason he distrusted your new family too much, whenever one of them tried to get close to you when the cat was near they received a hiss and also showed their claws
"Just don't trust them too much, they are plotting something that I don't like, trust me, my cat senses never fail"
He said seriously, you thought he was just exaggerating too much besides your new family was very good
It wouldn't make sense for them to want to hurt you
"You worry too much, if something was wrong I would have noticed it already just relax"
The black cat just stared at you without saying anything, he felt sorry for the fate that awaited you in the claws of that family
He just hoped it wasn't too late to convince you to leave this world
_
The whole family was gathered in the dining room, they had thrown a surprise party for you, it was a kind of official welcome and you were very excited
Your original family had never thrown a party for you and this was all just new to you
Next to the cake was a small gift, this was the best thing that could have happened to you
"What are you waiting for? Open the gift now"
Jason said handing you the gift, you nodded happily
But as soon as you opened the gift your smile disappeared
"Buttons?..."
You said confused looking at the strange gift
"You don't like it? You can be like us and stay here forever, don't you want that?"
Richard said approaching you, you could feel a bad feeling when you saw him near you and instinctively you got up from the table
"It's not that... it's just that..." You tried to find the right words, you couldn't believe what was happening, sewing buttons on your eyes? You wouldn't let that happen! "I don't want to... I'd better go to-"
Before you could continue speaking your body collided with Tim's, he was there behind you
"Why do you want to leave? You said you would stay with us..."
Tim said in a sinister tone, grabbing you tightly by the arms. You tried to get out of his grip but your strength was nothing compared to his.
"I didn't want to use force on you, (name), but you leave me no choice."
"What?"
Before you could say anything, you saw Bruce approaching you with the water and the buttons. You screamed, cried and kicked but nothing was enough.
Tim's grip was very strong and you could barely move.
They forced you to sit in the chair while Jason and Richard held you so you wouldn't move.
"Calm down, (name), it will only hurt a little."
Richard tried to calm you down but all you did was cry and scream for them to let you go.
It's too late to regret it now, but don't worry!
You don't have to worry about your old family anymore, now they will take care of you forever
Forget about everything, the only important thing is them and only them
_
Bruce was going crazy, he hadn't seen you for months
He wouldn't have even noticed that you disappeared if Alfred hadn't come to his office saying that you weren't at the mansion
He thought that you had simply left but after days without hearing from you he started to worry
He felt like the worst father and he knew that title suited him very well, he had ignored you for so long and now you were lost somewhere
The entire batfam was shocked, everyone felt bad about themselves for having ignored you and left you aside
Days passed and no one knew anything about you, it's as if your presence had disappeared from the earth
The only thing left of you were old photos and blurry memories in everyone's heads
But they was going to do everything possible to bring you back home, They made a lot of mistakes but they were going to fix them
Or maybe it was just an excuse to not feel so guilty
The clock keeps turning and time is running out, maybe when they find out everything it will be too late
Too late

Ever since you were a child, you were well aware that your relationship and role within your family was different to a lot of other families. It wasn’t the norm by any sense, even for Gotham. Your mom was never in the picture, leaving you in the hospital you were born in with a note about where to find your dad, and after a test to confirm it, you were sent to live with your dad, who at the time was the opposite of responsible, and was a mess still, if the whole getting a woman pregnant who then left you without a second thought wasn’t something to go by. It was no surprise that Alfred ended up being your actual primary caregiver for your early years. That, and the whole secret life as Batman he actually had the foresight to know it was best you didn’t know about.

Just in love (Jason Todd x f!reader)
Warnings: no proof reading, Batman is a bit of an ass, fluff
The batfamily was on edge because Jason seemed unusually quiet lately, in Crime Alley. They all were certain Red Hood was planning something bad.
But the reality was that Jason was very distracted by a pretty little Y/N. For the first time in his life, he was falling deeply in love to the point nothing else truly mattered to him. He was completely unaware of his former family's concern.
The first time Dick saw you, you were fast asleep into Jason's arms. Jason's book was lying on the ground as the giant guy was also resting his eyes. Dick was watching at the two of you through the window. Something warmed up inside of his chest, because things might get better for his baby brother. He hoped that Jason finally found some happiness in his new existence.
Actually, Nightwing was looking for Red Hood, because everyone was certain he was the reason behind the several buildings exploding during the night. Nightwing thought he could try and find clues at Jason's place. Instead, he saw the two of you cuddled up on the couch.
"Guys, we got the wrong guy. Clearly not Red Hood" he said over the comm's
"How so?" Batman replied
"He's currently asleep on the couch with a girl. Gosh he looks so relaxed. Maybe we all worried for nothing." Dick was almost smiling
"Let's focus back on the situation then, Nightwing" Batman hummed
The next day, Dick tried to find a way to run into Jason and you. He wanted to meet you, he wanted to talk with you. He needed to make sure you were good for Jason, but more importantly he needed to make an ally out of you. He was certain he could get Jason back in his life thanks to you.
Jason wasn't too glad to see Dick trying to be all frendly and chatty with you. However you seemed happy to listen to whathever Dick had to say and he couldn't deny you anything.
On the other hand, Dick loved being allowed to tell someone about all their childhood stories. It was making him feel like maybe not everything was lost.
Jason even smiled at your laughter and started to tell some of the stories himself, mostly to try and embarrass Dick (which was nearly impossible).
Perhaps brothers can still be brothers despite all the blood and violence.

Twin!reader who’s easily sick. They can’t be a hero, they can’t fight, they can’t go out on patrols. They have to live that normal life while their whole family and twin fight bad guys. Damian always comes back home, getting dressed to relax. To take care of his beloved twin. He sits on the edge of their bed, making them take medicine, vitamins. You name it. The twin could only frown in sadness, telling Damian that they “don’t need care.” Damian felt a little anger, but was calm on the outside.
It was always his duty to protect his twin. He’s not letting you perish by your weak immune system. You will be healthy, even if it kills him to realize that you are actually dying inside.
His twin…

Chapter Seven: Uncharted Territory
Heiress of Gotham
Bruce Wayne x Daughter!Reader
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
Summary: The day has finally arrived! Getting to know your newfound family and friends a little more on your special day, you try to forget everything that’s troubling you.
Words: 5.3k
Warnings: Cursing, Teasing, Sexual Inferences, Hurtful Comments, Reckless Driving(?)
A/N: Though it's been awhile, I still have my layout for the plot points I want to hit and make sure happen within the final few chapters of this part in the series. This chapter has been super fun for me to write though, and I'm excited for all the characters that are being introduced! It's been hard trying to fit all the info into the last four chapters which is why it's taken so long.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Woah…” stunned into silence, your eyes trail up the giant woman before you.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Koriand’r.” Met with green eyes, you can’t help but stare in utter astonishment and amazement. Not only is she orange-skinned, but she has neon green eyes, super long flowing reddish hair, and is tall… but she’s also super toned. “Is… there something wrong?” She looks to Dick who stands beside her, a hand on the small of her back.
As Dick opens his mouth to speak on your behalf, you beat him to it. “Like the seed?” Though you'd attempted to make a joke on behalf of her name in an attempt to ease things, an awkwardness settles in the air before you speak again. “I-I just… haven’t met anyone like you before,” you mutter, still in a daze. With a shake of your head, you try to gather yourself. “You’re so tall… and pretty.”
A chuckle leaves her lips and her perplexed expression quickly turns into a smile. “Thank you,” she says your name and places a warm hand on your shoulder, “I believe I owe you a congratulations for surviving another revolution around the sun?”
“I-it’s 'Happy Birthday', Kori,” Dick reminds her, an amused and somewhat flustered look appearing on his face. A hand comes up to the back of his neck to rub at it. "Though, I suppose that's also not technically wrong," he mumbles to himself.
“Happy Birthday, then,” she repeats, eyes sincere as she returns your smile. After a moment she spots something behind you, as she suddenly squeals out an ‘ooh!’ before taking off. Both you and Dick watch as she examines and plays with a spiral straw within one of the colorful cups adorning a nearby table.
“Oh!” Dick calls your name again, tearing your attention away from the confusing sight you’d been observing. “These are my friends, Gar, and Rachel,” he introduces, patting them on the shoulders. “No Victor?”
“He… didn’t think this was the best place, you know, pool party—not to mention he got called off to Mogo with-“ Rachel whispers to Dick, though your attention is more drawn to their hair.
“It’s actually Garfield, but my friends call me Gar,” he extends a hand, to which you happily shake. “I hear it’s your birthday? How old are you turning?”
With a nod, you reply. “Sixteen.”
“Oh, boy! I remember those days,” Gar announces with a laugh, his arms stretching upward before one of them comes down to wrap around Rachel’s shoulder. “What a time.” Dick departs the conversation with a small wave in your direction as he walks toward Kori.
“Heh, yeah. Crazy… that’s for sure,” Rachel comments, her eyes only register you then when they turn from Gar onto you. They’re purple. “Happy Birthday! It’s nice to finally meet you, I’m Rachel. I hope it’s okay Dick invited us. We left your present on the present table. We weren’t really sure what you’d like-“
“-Had no clue, in fact!” Gar comments.
“-but we left a gift receipt in case you don’t. I know we just met, but Dick mentioned you guys didn’t get off on the best foot, and… I just want you to know that if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m here for you.” Raven finishes. One of her hands wrapping itself around the elbow of her other arm.
“Yeah, Dick can totally be a--well--you know, a dick sometimes,” Gar jokes. “Seriously though. He means well, but it just takes time to get used to him.”
“Thank you so much. You… didn’t have to get me anything, but thank you… and it means a lot,” you respond, an appreciative smile on your lips as you place a friendly hand on her shoulder. “I love your guys’ hair by the way, super cool.”
“Hey, thanks!” Gar speaks, while Rachel simply smiles appreciatively.
————
Though your Father, Alfred, Jason, and Dick kept pestering you about your upcoming birthday for the weeks leading up to it, you can’t deny that the scene before you does anything but warm your heart.
The man you now know as ‘Uncle’ Clark—even if you don’t entirely feel quite comfortable enough to call him that yet—flips burgers on the grill making idle conversation with your Father. The usually prim and proper infamous Gothamite Playboy is nursing a beer in his hand, and for once, is actually dressed in what you’d classify as something fatherly. Sunglasses sit on the top of his quaffed hair, a playful blue short-sleeve button-up adorned with flamingoes screams the theme of today’s party.
You’d always wanted one as a kid, and while some had them at the local community ones, you never got the chance to. Now, with your own indoor and outdoors… a pool party was perfectly within the realm of grasp when Alfred asked what kind of party you’d wanted.
The butler had taken it upon himself to make the cucumber sandwiches that you’d discovered you actually enjoy this Independence Day when he’d made them. Much to the boy’s chagrin, you might add. Nevertheless, when you’d spotted them earlier in the kitchen, you’d given the older man a hug and smile, thanking him. Now he takes a break as he sits at the patio table in a high chair sipping at some fruity drink with a twisty straw, a little umbrella toothpick punctured into a piece of pineapple resting against the rim.
“So…. Which one’s him?” Your childhood best friend, Daisha asks. Quickly following her gaze, you see she’s onto the right group of people, at least. He’s there, all right. “If I didn’t know he was your brother, I would’ve guessed green shorts just based off type,” she verbally points out Damian with a chuckle and nudge to your side.
A scoff escapes you before you can prevent it. Hand flying to your chest, you make a face of disgust. “Eww… why you would say that-?!”
“Lemme guess- Superman shorts?” She teases, studying your reaction. “I was just kidding! Calm down. Geez!” You can't bear it, however, still disgusted even by the implication, you shake your head before finally gathering enough strength to shoot her dagger eyes. "Okay, so I'll take that as a 'no'. That leaves only one option left: orange shorts," she announces.
Lying on the pool float nearby, hands clasped across his stomach relaxedly, eyes hidden behind sunglasses, their blue orbs follow the same path that the girls' do. Listening on their conversation, Tim revels in the fact that it seems they haven't picked up on it, yet he's getting all the juicy information. "He's cute. Simple, but cute, I guess. It's his eyes, isn't it?" It's the way your friend, what was it... Daisha? He's pretty sure it was. Daisha says it in such a sure way that makes him almost burst out laughing. You refute it, but the way your cheeks darken a bit doesn't lie. He watches you splash her meekly before a little war ensues, sending you swimming away, finally calming once you're both sat in the little alcove by the random steps along the side.
Unfortunately, the both of you are out of earshot now. While he'd want to drop a foot into the water off the float and try to use it to get momentum to drift in that direction, it'd be too obvious. However, just as Tim decides he has to do so, Gar and Dick come splashing noisily in his direction quick. As they pass in their little show of bravado of 'who can swim to the other end there and back faster?' their strokes send a current of waves making his floatie rock and his body wobble as he grips onto the sides, eager not to fall in. After all, he's only just gotten warm. Luckily, however, it would seem someone really is looking out for him as momentum sends the floatie in the direction of the alcove.
"So where's your hot brother?" Daisha asks
“Ouch,” Tim comments, sucking in a breath between his teeth. He lowers his shades down the bridge of his nose, revealing bright blue eyes that stare down at the two of you. “I have to assume you don’t mean me, considering I’m right here,” he partially jokes, feigning hurt as he puts his hand over his bare pale chest. It’s only after an awkward moment of you two worrying you’d offended him that he laughs.
It’s contagious. Daisha laughs, meanwhile you can’t help but smile, eventually joining in. Even if your thoughts still course through the back of your mind. Had he heard your conversation? Would he tell? Would he even care? “It’s okay,” he speaks up again, breaking the silence. “I didn’t take it personally. Though I will say that whoever it is you do think is ‘the hot brother’ is can guarantee you isn’t worth it, sunshine,” he divulges with a scoff as he shakes his head, shades back up in their proper position.
“Oh,” Daisha quietly exclaims in surprise, scooting closer to the edge of the underwater ledge. “And what makes you say that?” She baits, knowing it’s a sort of tactic many can’t resist. Give someone room to vent, and eight times out of ten they’ll dish. As she leans closer, expectantly waiting with a mischievous smile upon her lips, you can’t help but perk up, somewhat interested in the prospect of hearing his opinion on the family and whatever secret sides you’ve yet to witness.
“You really want to know?” Tim baits her back, teasing her with a hint of teetering on the edge of juicy gossip. “Might tarnish your image of whoever it is,” he throws out there with a singsong voice, followed by a mock yawn for exaggeration.
“Well you can’t just say something like tha-” Daisha begins to argue, brows furrowing.
“I’d be curious to know,” you admit, voice waning in volume the longer you speak. Unsure whether indulging in gossiping behind the other brothers’ backs is a good idea in the long run. This garners his attention as he lowers his shades again to eye you, the only person who hadn’t chimed in until now. There’s a brief look of speculation before a smirk breaks across his face. Pushing the shades back so they’re resting atop his head, Tim returns his gaze forward as he looks across the yard.
“Well… say it’s Dick,” the boy proffers, “he and Kori are constantly on and off at best. That’s just a lot more drama than I’d want to deal with, personally, but if that’s your thing- be my guest.” Of course, you’re sure he isn’t actually advising Daisha to go off and start flirting with them considering your age gaps. You can’t deny the tidbits he’s only starting to divulge utterly capture your attention, however. “But if that’s not enough, he’s so… hot-headed. Either cool as a cucumber or a flaming douchewad”
“Honestly… I could see it,” Daisha comments with a tilt of her head as her eyes drift to the couple across the yard, talking on the patio with their other friends: Gar and Rachel.
“Really? I wouldn’t have guessed,” you respond. “Well, the first part anyways.”
“And if it’s Damian?” Tim scoffs again, a sort of laugh having mixed with it. “Forget about it! The little devil only cares if you’re an animal, and has no sense of a filter.”
“And lastly, if it’s Jason… well… then actually he’s probably your best bet. I mean, he’s sensitive, smarter than he looks, and is a good cook. Though he’s also somewhat impatient, righteous, and then there’s definitely the way that he’s more of a lone wolf, so… if you can put with that then, I guess by all means.” Tim chuckles as he shrugs, curious as to Daisha’s thoughts. As the girl looks over the party’s guests, she looks back at Tim with a dumbfounded look. Everyone has their red flags, you suppose.
————
Opening the back door, you tug your towel a little tighter around yourself as you try to keep it from falling. The empty platter you’d been asked to bring in by Mister Kent makes balancing the tasks tedious. Really, you’d wanted any task to get your mind off things, and perhaps go inside for a moment alone.
“Are you kidding me? You’re really going to fight this?!” Jason shouts. Finally raising your eyes to the scene before you in the kitchen, the men stand circled on the other side of the room behind the island.
“What? Like it caused a huge problem? She-” Dick scoffs, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Like she has any friends! We were only trying to help,” Damian says. Hands settling on his hips, he tilts his head in triumph up at the group.
“Boys-” Bruce grits through his teeth. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
“Oh really?” Tim chimes in. “Because you were so thoughtful!”
“It’s her birthday,” Bruce adds on.
“Oh, like you were being thoughtful by inviting Clark and Diana,” Dick accuses Bruce, turning his attention on the older man. The slow movement of the empty platter in your hand onto the counter to your left catches his attention. Out of the corner of his eyes he spots you.
Bruce clears his throat and straightens his posture. “Actually, I-” he tries to clarify himself.
“Exactly! Took the words out of my mouth,” Tim comments pridefully as he turns his focus from Dick to Bruce.
“It’s not your party either! You don’t get a say,” Damian argues with Tim.
“Guys,” Dick calls, his eyes on you with a guilty look. His eyes linger on you.
“And you’re still arguing this,” Jason sighs.
Tim clears his throat, having spotted you along with Dick. Before the rest of the group catches on, Alfred comes in from the dining room directly to your right. “What’s wrong?” He asks you worriedly. The unexpected voice is what gauges everyone’s attention. As Alfred’s hand slips onto your shoulder as he looks down at your wet cheeks, he has a sympathetic look on her face. “What’s going on?” His kindness suddenly turns sour as he turns his attention onto the men before you.
“We-” Damian begins, but a pointed look from Alfred shuts him up. If anyone was going to give a valuable explanation of what truly aspired, it certainly wasn’t Damian.
“I was trying to point out how shitty it was that they all invited their friends when the party isn’t for them,” Jason elucidates with a cross of his arms over his chest.
“We just thought it might be nice for there to be more people,” Dick adds on, rebutting Jason’s point.
“Yeah, she only has one friend!” Damian chides exasperatedly.
Alfred puts his hand up, effectively shutting them all up from any further comments. “Well, quite frankly I am sorely disappointed in the lot of you. Each of you knew better and even if you had good intentions in mind, it is still Miss-” he says your name, “birthday, and yet you have all made her cry.”
With a shake of your head, you wipe the tears from your cheeks, no longer crying. “It’s okay! Really,” you protest, “I’m not crying because anyone invited anyone, I just…” head hanging a little, you sigh before facing Alfred again. “If there was anyone I really wanted here, it was my mom. I realized that… she’s not gonna be there for anymore of my birthdays. And she was always the one who was there.” Voice dwindling the longer you speak, you find yourself getting choked up again. So much so that you have to turn toward the door again, the bright and festive landscape just outside the screen a stark contrast to the dark shadow seemingly surrounding you.
You don’t know if the sudden quiet in the kitchen is appreciated or not compared to the fighting that’d been taking place just moments ago. Behind your back all the men give each other looks as no one truly knows what to do, how to make it better for you. Yet, the old man comes through once more. With a hesitant and gentle touch of his hand to your shoulder again, Alfred’s presence is known. Perhaps it’s the warmth in his touch that makes you feel somehow cared for, or the way he’d stuck up for you when you didn’t even know you needed someone to.
“May I offer you a tidbit I’ve been pondering on,” Alfred proposes quietly. While you don’t face him, you simply nod; wiggling your nose, you don’t want any of them to see this side of you, crying, nose starting to run. “I may not have known your mother, yet, from everything I’ve heard about her, I can surmise that… I believe she would be happy that you’re taken care of, and, that it looked like you were having fun today.”
He lets the sentiment linger in the air for a moment before ever so gently tugging on your shoulder, encouraging you to face him. “Would you say that’s at least a somewhat accurate assumption?” The old man questions, the inkling of a smile on his lips as he simultaneously looks you over. It’s hard to say, really, the thought hadn’t crossed your mind… yet, deep down you know he’s right. Lips curling in on themselves, you nod slowly.
“Yeah,” you quietly respond. “I just… didn’t think about her at all, until… now.” While you’d managed to quell the silent tears, the hard truth you hadn’t wanted to admit stirs something in your gut as your eyes begin to well up.
“Can I give you a hug?” Alfred asks, hand tacitly beckoning forth the men outside your peripheral vision. Tentatively you nod in response, which leads to the man enveloping you in his arms. Clearly he doesn’t care if your bathing suit or towel dampen him. The tears naturally fall, and you grieve the loss of your mother once again. Yet, somehow the burden is slightly lessened as you feel not one pair, but two, then three, then so many you’ve lost count begin to surround you. It’s somewhat suffocating, honestly, yet the knowledge that you’re not alone, and these people actually care for you is something that makes you feel exactly what he’d said: cared for.
When you finally all break off and head back outside, you find that falling back into the rhythm and excitement of the party is easy. Overall, it’d been a fun day! Seeing Lois Lane in a stunning one piece and gigantic sun hat was so unlike anything you’d ever seen before, not to mention that you’d gotten to play football with their son, Jon. Sure, maybe a part of it was to impress Billy with your skills, but you’d all had a blast! You’d also gotten to meet your Father’s closest friends. Getting to know Clark Kent better, he seems like a nice and fun guy. Diana Prince was definitely fun to talk to, her business in art restoration eliciting a lot of curious questions on your behalf. Then there was also the fact that she was just generally stunning and you wish you could know some of her beauty secrets.
Then there was Steph who showed up with another friend in tow: Connor. He was fun, offering for you to join them as they played a sort of makeshift Volleyball game in the pool. Surprisingly, your team of you, Connor, and Daisha won against Steph, Tim, and another friend who’d showed up later: Kara. You’d have thought she and Stephanie were practically twins if she hadn’t introduced herself. Unfortunately, she couldn’t stay long and you didn’t really get the chance to talk to her all that much, but her cheery personality definitely uplifted the energy of the party.
Next, you finally were introduced to your apparent cousin who’d come late: Helena, as your Father introduced. She definitely appeared bougie from the looks of her, though that’s something you actually were impressed by, silently wishing to one day embody such an aesthetic. Lastly, Billy’s brother ‘intruded’ for a few minutes as his family had come to pick him up, the brother named Freddy exuding a whirlwind of excitement as he raved about your family’s legacy. You couldn’t deny he was funny, and you had wished he’d showed up earlier.
Lying in bed that night, you run over the day’s events and can’t help but feel that it was a definite success as you remember the way everyone had gathered around you with the lights turned off on the patio as they sang Happy Birthday to you. The wish had taken a moment as you hadn’t known what to possibly wish for, yet ultimately it came to you. Everyone made you feel utterly whole, and as you’d taken the time to talk to your mom’s picture later, informing her of the day’s events, you can’t help but feel that maybe, just maybe you’re making progress. It’d been a good day. Heck, a great day. You’d even gotten a few moments to flirt with Billy when Daisha distracted the other two with her words and charms.
The others’ birthdays pass in quick succession. Alfred and Jason have a joint birthday, the party lively and filled with a nice dinner and board games to follow. You’d been surprised by your Father’s talent at charades, while Damian’s struggle at Scrabble was somewhat illuminating.
Next is Damian’s birthday, which is everything you’d expect of a teen turning fifteen. Filled with his close knit of friends, you all enjoyed a day of laser tag, cake, and putting up with the birthday boy’s behavior. It wasn’t awful, but it’d been interesting to see the boy attempt to truly enjoy himself. Weirdly it seemed as though it came second nature for him.
————
Knocking on the door, you’re quickly met by someone unexpected. Lips parting in shock, your eyebrows furrow in confusion. “Billy?” As the two of you stare at one another, it doesn’t take long for a bigger hand to wind up on the door, opening it wider.
“Aren’t you gonna invite her in?” Mister Kent asks with a chuckle. “Come on in,” he says your name. It elicits an appreciative smile, as you hadn’t thought he’d remembered, or that he cared, but apparently you were wrong. “You two know each other?” He asks, closing the door behind you as the two of you shuffle further inside.
“We’ve met,” Billy replies hesitantly, green eyes shifting over to meet yours. A sheepish smile sits on his lips.
“Briefly,” you add. “I just came by to pick up-“
“-Damian. Of course! No problem,” Mister Kent repeats your name, “we’re just setting the table. Do you want to help? The boys are out back, but we’re about to sit down and have dinner.” Upon this revelation, you’re confused as to why Billy’s here, nevertheless, you put on a gracious smile and nod your head.
“Sure!” You respond. Mister Kent shoves forks and knives in your hands, a stack of plates wedged in the crook of his arm.
“I’m assuming you’ll be joining us? Do you mind grabbing another set, Billy?” Mister Kent asks. “You showed up just in time!” With a smile in your direction, you feel a little embarrassed. Now you’re the one with a sheepish smile. Billy nods and heads into where you assume the kitchen is. As Mister Kent walks through the open doorway to the dining room, you find yourself feeling bad for having to turn them down.
“Alfred is actually making us something right now. I was just sent to pick up Damian, since I’m working on my driver’s license right now,” you reveal. With a thick swallow, you meet the man’s eyes with a saddened smile.
“Well, it’ll take at least an hour and a half to drive back, so what if you call up Alfred and tell him you’ll be late? No sense in him starting something when we’ve got plenty to share. Plus, I’m sure Jon would love to see you again.”
Mentally debating it, Mister Kent distracts you with another question. Multitasking, he starts putting down the plates and arranging the cups that were already on the table. “Also, if you only have your permit—forgive me,” he states your name, “-but how did you drive all the way here? Aren’t you supposed to have an adult with you to supervise?”
An awkward chuckle leaves your lips as your free hand comes up to rub at the back of your neck. “I did! Sort of… everyone else is away, so Alfred was the only one available and he was on FaceTime the whole time I was driving-“
“-so you were on the phone and driving the whole way here?! Absolutely not, I’ll-“
“-It was Alfred’s idea! Plus, he said he didn’t have time to pick up Damian and go with me for driving hours, so-“ You defend.
“-I still don’t see in any way how that’s a-“
“-Oh, hush now, Clark. She was obviously safe, and if anything were to happen then at least Alfred would be able to call someone, right?” A woman interrupts as she walks out from the kitchen holding a plate of corn cobs and a bowl of baked beans. Sliding around the big man, she places the items down on the table. Billy chuckles in the doorway of the kitchen as he watches the man capitulate to the woman’s defense.
“Right…” you slowly get out. Though it dawns on you who this is, now that you can see her face. “You’re Lois Lane! The reporter- the journalist from the Daily Planet!” It comes out before you can stop it, and you’re suddenly visibly in awe at the fact that you’re literally in the room with a celebrity.
“That, I am. I take it you’re a fan? I’m glad some kids are still into literature and current events in this day and age,” she responds, “lord knows so many kids are all about that tick talk now and all those different YouTube celebrities.” With a deep breath, she places her hands on the back of the chair at the head of their table.
“Anyway, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” she says your name, “I’ve heard so little of you I was beginning to think you were just a story my boys made up! Please, sit. We’re just bringing out the rest of the food. Don’t let Clark guilt you into helping him like he did, Billy,” she chides. With a laugh she heads back into the kitchen, sneaking around her husband once more.
“I did not guilt him,” Clark defends, “did I guilt you into helping me, Billy?” The man looks over at the boy leaning against the doorway’s frame watching the whole scene pan out before him. Suddenly with the attention on him, he jumps into action, placing the final setting in the last seat open at the table.
“I wouldn’t say ‘guilt’… though I did only come in to use the bathroom,” Billy responds, chuckling at the end as he tries to play his words off as a joke. “I don’t mind helping though. I have to do this every Tuesday night at home anyways.”
“Why Tuesdays?” Clark questions, finally standing up to his full height again as he’s done straightening the plates and cups.
A goofy smile emerges on the boy’s lips as he shrugs. “I don’t know, cause every other day was taken, I guess? I mean, there are six of us, so there’s not a lot of other days to choose from when they’ve all already picked, you know?” He jokes.
Processing all this new information, you’re still stunned that Lois Lane knew your name, and heard about you from the men. While you’d probably wonder what they’d told her any other time, Billy’s words have you wishing he’d say more, curious to hear more about him. “You… have six siblings?”
“Don’t you have, like, five?” He retorts, looking down at you from where he stands by the opposite head of the table Lois had been at.
“Touché,” you reply, “though to be fair, I didn’t know I had any till a few months ago, and… really I’m only related to one of them.”
“I guess that’s cool. I mean, I’m not technically related to any of my siblings so there’s that,” Billy comments.
Lois pesters Clark to sit down, so he heads to the other end of the table to sit at the other head. She lies a plate full of veggies and another with buns and burgers on them upon the table. “Would you guys mind getting the boys? Then let me know what you’d all like to drink.” As she heads back into the kitchen, you look from the man to Billy, who nods for you to follow him.
Rounding the wall cutout between the dining room and living room, you walk past their couch, coffee table, and television to the sliding glass door. “So… you’re getting your license?” Billy asks.
“Trying to,” you joke. As you brush your hair behind your ears, you listen as the boy goes on about summer coming to an end.
“You’re gonna be a… Senior?” He questions, turning his green eyes on you as he comes to a stop only a few meters from the house.
“Yeah! And you?”
“Same. I honestly can’t believe it,” he admits with a shake of his head. As the two of you linger there, eyes meeting and averting each other, he eventually draws his attention to the laundry hung up on the clothesline a yard in front of you. “Jon! Damian! Dinner time,” he yells between cupped hands.
Soon enough you’re all sat around the table. A prayer ensues before you all dig in, passing dishes around the table in a manner you’re more accustomed to than dinner at home. “Do you have any plans for the fall?” Lois asks you, your name falling off her tongue easily.
With a swallow of the corn in your mouth, you nod your head. “Well, Alfred has really been pushing for me and Damian to do something after school, like sports or something,” you begin, everyone’s attention falling onto you with intent expectation. “And I thought maybe it’d be fun to try out for the cheerleading squad. The tryouts are next week, so, I’ve been trying to practice and get ready.”
“That’s amazing! I hope tryouts go well,” Lois compliments. “Are you trying out for anything Damian?”
An annoyed scoff slips past his lips as the boy has to restrain himself from rolling his eyes. “No. I think not, though there are a few clubs that may have caught my intrigue. I doubt they’ll be up to standard but it’s worth scouting out the competition.”
“I’m joining Chess Club!” Jon adds.
“Well, these all sound like fruitful endeavors. What about you Billy?” Clark asks.
A thoughtful hum comes from the boy, even if he has his head downward on his plate, pushing the food around. “I’m not entirely sure yet.”
“Well, I know some sports stop taking people before the school year starts, and clubs fill up fast. So I’d check with the school to see what you can do! It’d definitely look good on your resume going forward,” Lois posits.
Continuing to indulge in idle conversation throughout dinner, soon enough it’s ended and of course Lois insists she can handle the dishes. Bidding the Kent family goodbye, Lois and Clark offer you a tight hug before stopping you at the door. “You’re welcome here anytime,” Clark states.
“We wanted you to know that. While we don’t know the entire circumstance of your situation, we wanted to let you know we’re here for you,” Lois expands.
With the warm sentiment and full bellies, you’re off. Still somewhat giddy that you’d gotten a hug from Billy, you try to memorize the feeling. You’d also gotten one from Jon, too, which was nice, but… you can’t help the way you feel about Billy. While Damian had vaguely put up a fight against you driving, it was his only option of getting home, so he acquiesced. Nevertheless, you’re feeling hopeful for the beginning of the new school year!

Is it a Wonder I Broke?
Batfamily x Neglected! Reader
Author's note: I really did NAWT want to write a two parter but hey, I should have expected it with how much I write. I am so new to writing angst but I've had a thirst for writing and reading angst lately and I just NEEDED to cure it!!! ENJOY
Warnings: The Bats being kinda shitty, Neglect
Part 1 // Part 3
---
Damian was sure something was missing. He woke up that day and as he had breakfast, he had noticed something odd about Alfred. There was a certain sadness in his eyes that Damian couldn't place. None of them had gotten injured in last night's patrol. Jason's deathaversary (as he loved to call it) wasn't near. No one had fought, quite the contrary, he'd say this has got to be one of the weeks where they had best behaved and gotten along. Even Bruce and Jason were relaxed. So what plagued the man? Damian looked around the house and wondered what could be the problem. Maybe he was tired? Or Sick? That could be it. Sensing the young man's gaze on him, Alfred erased all emotion from his face and looked at Damian questioning.
"May I help you with something, Master Damian?" he asked with a raised brow. Damian inspected him thoroughly and hummed.
"You are different, Pennyworth" observed Damian and the butler gave the boy a deadpan. Nop, he's good, never mind. Maybe he was just thinking something unpleasant and it showed in his face.
And yet, the feeling didn't leave Damian. There was something odd in the house. Thankfully, it was Saturday, so he had the rest of the day to walk around and investigate. He had visited the gardens, and overseen the entirety of the first and second floor, yet nothing came to mind. What the fuck was wrong in this damn house?
He had decided to empty his mind in the art room. There, he spent the rest of his afternoon sketching a portrait of some plants he had seen in the garden. His 16th birthday was soon approaching and he really needed to get some new art supplies. The ones he had were old and very worn out. As he finished, he noticed the time and realized he had spent the majority of the day in the art room. He had gone to clean his hands and headed to the cave to suit up, hoping tonight's patrol would clear his head. What was missing?
So into his thoughts, Damian hadn't noticed the rest of his siblings down at the cave suiting up as well.
"Hey, Littlewing! What's got you looking so constipated?" Asked Dick with a hint of humor in his tone.
"Have any of you noticed that the manor feels rather odd?" he questions as he suits his boots up.
"What do you mean, bat brat?" Asked Jason raising his eyebrow.
"The manor, it feels….odd. As if something is missing. It feels emptier and I can't help but ask why. Not only that, have any of you noticed Pennyworth looking….strange lately?" He questioned and the group fell into silence, all thinking of his observation.
"Now that you mention it, Alfred has been looking a little tired lately. Like, you know, as if his age is kinda showing." Tim recounted
"And he has had this sort of sad glaze in his eyes" Steph added.
"It's not my deathaversery, I can assure you that" hummed Jason.
"And no other impacting date is near, so what could have caused him any sort of discomfort?" Asked Dick.
The group looked at each other, clueless about what could have caused their beloved butler and grandfather to feel odd.
"You don't think he might be sick and is hiding that from us?" Asked Duke
"But why would he be sad about that?" Barbara question.
Plagued with the heaviness of confusion, none of them noticed the patriarch of the family arrive all suited up and looking at them.
"Is everyone ready?" sounded Bruce's deep voice snapping everyone out of their thoughts. They all nodded still a little bit distant and lost. Bruce, not wanting to push his kids, nodded and clapped his hands to gain their full attention. "Tonight we have a slow night as it seems. Everyone has their patrol route, let's hope that we can be already finished by 2. Everyone, dispatch.
It was a relatively slow night. So much so, that it had allowed them to goof around a little as they went on. Midnight had arrived and Damian was crouched next to his father as they overlooked the city. He could hear Jason, Stephanie, and Dick joking around in the back and smiled a little as they laughed. That's when he felt it. The lingering gaze in the shadows. Surely, he looked up to his father who had felt it as well.
His mother.
After years of being separated from her and getting only a handful of visits, he had gotten used to her gaze when she was lingering, watching him. He knew it was her. Damian stood up and turned towards his left and there he saw her. Black, gold, and green armor shining in the night. The sudden silence told him that his siblings were on high alert as well. What could Talia want?
She finally noticed their gaze on her and began running. This alerted every one of them.
"Oracle, send Red Robin and Orphan our coordinates. We encountered Talia Al Ghul and are on the move." Ordered Batman
"Copy that, B." Answered Barbara in their comns.
What did the League of Assassins want now? If they meant no harm, she wouldn't have run, so what happened?
They followed Talia as she led them farther from the city and closer to the harbor. As they went, he noticed that more assassins made themselves visible and surrounded them and that alone raised his suspicions even more. Normally, when his mother wanted to talk to him, she came alone. Why were they here?
Finally, she stopped in front of a boat…the same one where I met my father…WITH Y/N. Damian came to a sudden halt. That is what was missing! He tries to think back on the past few weeks and he couldn't conjure up the slightest memory of seeing his sister. As a matter of fact, he hadn't seen her in the past few months…Where was Y/n? Was that why Pennyworth looked distressed? Why did he just notice now?! Had he been so busy that he couldn't recall his sister? No….that's imposible. She probably has been in practice. She was busy with her own life as well. Especially now, that it was getting closer to the Ice Skating National Competition. He had been keeping tabs on her competition schedules. Yeah, that was probably it. Any time a competition got closer, she would either be locked in their home rink or her practice rink making sure it was perfect. Yeah, that had to be it. She probably left early, was busy in practice, and came during the time he was in the art room or getting ready. Damian wanted to believe that..he really did, but something was nagging at him in the back of his mind. Why would Alfred be sad at that? Had she gotten hurt in practice? Ice skating meant the world for Y/n so that was probably it. Alfred adored watching her skate. Per Damian's request, he would record her practices and competitions so that once he got back from a mission and patrol, he could watch her. She was truly wonderful. That could have been it. She got hurt before Nationals and had been resting in her room lately. That could be why Damian had not seen much of her in the last few weeks. Before that, he had stayed a few months with the Titans, so that could also explain the lack of memories in the past year o so. That was the logical conclusion, right? But if she was hurt, why did Pennyworth not mention anything? He would have to ask him when he arrived later because now he was concerned for his sister's health.
He looked forward and realized that all of them had stopped further. He ran and reached his father's side. Observing his surroundings, he noted that there were 10 or so assassins on both of their sides. Why would his mother need so many?
"Ah, Damian, finally, you are here," Talia spoke up with her back to them. If she was a threat, she wouldn't be giving them her back. Ras taught them better than that.
"What are you here for, Talia?" questioned Bruce.
"Well. Beloved, I have come to extend an invitation, per my daughter's request" She smiled turning around to look at them fully, "I had to lure all of you out here so that we could settle this private matter without the sounds of the city." she explained.
"My sister is resting back in the manor, Mother, what could you mean?" Damian questioned narrowing his eyes at her.
"Is that what you all believe, my dear?" She smirked and watched each of their reactions one by one.
"Where is our daughter, Talia?" Asked Bruce slowly
"You mean to tell me that MY daughter was left under your care and you have no clue where she is?" asked Talia, venom slipping into her words. "Is that what you are letting me know, Batman?"
"Our daughter is safe in the manor" Bruce answered. Damian looked at him and if he wasn't doubtful himself, he probably would have believed him.
"Well, that's not entirely true, beloved. Y/n has not been living in the manor for almost two years now." Talia corrected and everyone froze. "Can't believe you would lie to my face like that"
Jason, Dick, Tim, Stephanie, and Cassandra looked at Bruce expetantly. Surely what Talia said can't be true. They all take a moment to digest the information. Y/n was in the manor, right?
Tim tried to look back but he couldn't think of a moment he had seen her. He lived in the manor as well for fuck's sake. Had he been too busy with Wayne Enterprises and Red Robin that he hadn't noticed his sister's absence? Then again, Y/n was always training so it was difficult to tell….or was it?
Dick and Jason looked at each other. They didn't live in the manor anymore but surely, they had seen her at dinners. Y/n rarely spoke up so she could have been there but they just didn't notice? But as far as they can remember, Y/n loved to talk about her competitions in the hope that they would be able to go to one. They thought she had finally given up on asking them….and that left a bitter taste in their mouths. Why had she all of a sudden gone silent?….or was she just not there at all?
Cassandra had noticed what Damian had said earlier. The Manor had felt different. It seemed as if one presence was lacking but she was constantly with Stephanie so it was rather difficult to keep up on the whereabouts of her life. Besides, Y/n was always training…
Bruce stiffened. Where..was..his..daughter? Since when had she not been living in the manor? When did that happen? He had noticed that Alfred had gone out less and figured Y/n began transporting herself to her things, but that was odd because the old man loved taking her. It was the one moment where Bruce could tell he had peace. Y/n had always been such an independent child from a young age. She didn't need the same training as Damian because she abandoned that life once she was in Gotham. He was truly so glad that she wouldn't follow in his footsteps, that she had chosen to be normal. When was the last time he had seen her come to dinner? When was the last time he heard her songs blasting from her room? When was the last time she used her rink? He would always watch footage of her through Alfred's recordings and the security cameras installed in the ice rink. He still remembers the day he surprised her with it. "I didn't think you'd even know" she whispered thinking he hadn't heard, but he did and those words had plagued his mind ever since then like a broken record. Why wouldn't he know? Sure they were all busy but they cared for her.
"Oracle, search footage of all of the security cameras in the past two years. Find anything and everything about Y/n."
"Right on that, B."
"What invitation does Y/n have for us, mother?" Asked Damian, unsure whether or not he wanted to hear the answer.
"To her coronation as the new Heir to the Demon Head and Future Leader of the League of Assassins, of course" She answered almost instantly.
.
..
"WHAT!" yelled Damian. Everyone felt their blood run cold, "My sister, my beloved twin sister, would never NEVER desire that. You must not be serious! Y/n Wayne Al Ghul has never EVER wanted to be like grandfather. She is better than that. She is too good for the Demon Head. I was the one trained to be the heir an-"
"And you weren't the only one trained. Have you forgotten that both of you endured the same training and whilst your grandfather disciplined you, I was disciplining her." interrupted his mother harshly. "Y/n moved back to the League a year and a half ago and has been training endlessly to become the next Leader of the League, Damian. You would have all known that had you chosen to not neglect my daughter. She is safe and well-"
"My sister will NEVER be happy-"
"Because you know her oh so very well, my son?" Talia let her gaze linger on her son. Her disappointment was palpable. He had failed to be there for his twin….
"Nightwing, Red Hood, do one last round on the city, then head to the cave. The rest of you, you are dismissed. Head straight to the came, now. Especially, you, Damian. I have to speak with your mother first." Batman's left no space for argument. They all nodded and left, aside from Damian.
"Father-"
"Go, Robin"
"Father, this is just my problem as it is yours"
"To the cave, now. We will discuss this later."
Damian wasn't happy with the outcome, but one look at his mother and father; and he knew he wouldn't want to be part of this discussion when he had many important matters to attend to.
Once Damian left, Bruce turned to Talia.
"Tal-"
"You neglected my daughter-"
"Our-"
"MY daughter. You spent six years ignoring one child and favoring the other and you THINK you can make demands and look at me as if I have done something wrong? I went to her practices, I went to her competitions, I visited on their birthday every. fucking. Year. Bruce, I may not be the example of motherhood, but at least I was as present as I could be and I didn't even live with her." She hissed at him coldly.
"This is different, she wanted to be a professional ice skater. I know my daughter well enough to remember that. Damian is right. Becoming the Leader of the League of Assassins will never make her happy-"
"Because you know her so well? Bruce, I believe in what Y/n can bring to the League. She has astounding potential as a leader. She is levelheaded and diplomatic, she understands my father's ideal and vision without a vengeful eye. Unless you intend to be supportive…Do not cross her path. I came here to extend the invitation per her request as cordiality, not because I planned to. It will be a week after her birthday. I will not repeat myself. Farewell, Batman"
"Talia" Bruce tried, but she was already gone.
