I hope Vic knows that the fact that there is continuing lore of Very Important People being maintained and expanded upon is so freakin awesome
Host!Vic is such an interesting character, usually dismissive of the crew but trying to help them when Hayes Steele was on
The reoccurring feud with the step daughter
Elevates the narrative for me so much, I’m so glad Denzel is STILL in that guest house

I was given the task of wrestling a giant dog-shaped blob alien out of a room in Denzel Washington’s house and my family kept calling me at all the wrong times.

Apparitions Poster in the Galax Institute
I noticed that Mark Chang appeared on the poster in the Galax Institute in “Crock to the Future” but there were also some other aliens on the poster too.
One of the aliens is from the species that was seen in the episode "Please Don't Feed the Turners’" on Dark Laser's Death Ball. They are commonly referred to as the “Alien Tourist”.
One of the other aliens shown on the poster is a Jovian Cyclops who appeared in the episode "Love Triangle" when Foop/Irep poofed Sammy and later Poof/Peri to Jupiter to get them out of the way of the school play they were participating in an attempt to impress Goldie Glodenglow.
In the episode“King Chang” Princess Mandie was imprisoned by the Yugopatamians, but there is a chance that her race the Broucians might infiltrate the Yugopotamia Prison to free her that way she can be a foe to Hazel.
I also mentioned in another post that Dark Laser could rejoin with Irep and Crocker to form the LOSERS again and if Lezah comes back from the dead maybe she can become part of their group as she may become Irep’s adopted sister. Also, the ANW Crew will have to be an explanation of why Lezah is brought back like maybe Hazel somehow becomes a half-fairy while she is able to take on a human form.
Anyway, I hoping to see Mark Chang make a return too and I wonder if he is still fascinated by Vicky? Princess Mandie may come after Vicky in an evil vs evil match to get her revenge.
In season 10 it was reveal that Mark Chang was an alien to the public and Crocker’s mom Dolores who was revealed to be a government agent tried to capture him, but Timmy stopped her from doing so by disguising himself as an Intergalactic Alien Federation demanding them not to go after Mark. So Mark Chang may have been walking around without disguising himself since then.
Also, there were some alien species I didn’t recognize and I am guessing they will appear in future episodes of A New Wish.

I love how Denzel answered the question and flipped it around on its head, leaving the interviewer stuttering to full on moving on to the next subject/question because it got awkward for him lol.
White people have never respected black entertainment, especially our movies (unless they’re in it as some sort of stand in white savior, especially slave movies lol. They used to love giving Oscar’s to black ppl if it meant they got to see them suffer throughout the film.) and it’s funny because sm of them gauge a films greatness based off of how many people have seen, how often it’s talked about globally while completely disregarding Black films and foreign films as well (especially if they’re not like French or whatever tf), or if it was “Oscar bait,” while completely forgetting that “Boyz N the Hood,” was also Oscar nominated. “Do the Right thing,” (they were NOT going to let Do the Right Thing win a damn Oscar lmfao) but they never watched them (well, they just simply called “Do the Right Thing,” “racist against white people-“ and the usual really.
“Hustle & Flow,” literally won an Oscar and you could see the discomfort in the sea of white ppl’s annoyingly frightened faces when they saw Three 6 Mafia and their entourage, go up on the stage and accept their award. That’s when I knew wp were no longer gonna allow for black films that were unapologetically black, regardless of subject matter, win anything like that again lmfao.
It’s funny since they do this with literature as well. I still remember being in HS and our literature teacher had us reading “the importance of being earnest,” and how he’d completely shut me out after I’d let it be known that I wasn’t really enjoying it, framing my opinion as being “naive,” and making it out to seem as though I just “didn’t understand it, that’s why I wasn’t enjoying it-“ when in reality, it was just a boring piece of literature to ME. He was really offended 😭. Then when you bring up literature written by Black people from the past, they purposely misunderstand the text because they personally cannot relate to the experience of being Black… like whatever!!!
I always kind of roll my eyes at white YouTubers/ streamers especially whenever they started picking up that trend of “watching black movies/ listening to hip-hop/rap, and just black music in general,” for views and their reactions are always so… like it’s almost as if they’re venturing into as if black media is some sort of strange thing from outer space that they’ve yet to encounter? Like we’re a phenomenon that’s completely separate from reality. “Ohh, this strange new world-“ and it’s just a black movie with black people who weren’t handpicked by white media to be in 🗿. They act like they’re listening to music discovered by aliens when they begrudgingly listen to rap music for the very first time in their lives despite being adults, for views. I’ve always found those channels strange like yeah, it’s great that you’re trying to expand your interests and broaden your horizons in media but how have you never watched [insert black classic] and you call yourself a “movie buff-“ 🗿… I already know the answer but eek.
#rambling#just annoying#it’s the antiblackness#not that I care about what nbs and whites have to say about what we’ve created but it’s always kind of hilarious when they go on and act as#if they’re some sort of all time connoisseur of movies and shit when they’ve never even seen fucking Friday or Boyz n the hood#it’s weird#like why should we care about aliens or whatever classic white movie came out and how revolutionary they were if you don’t even care about#black media in general

☁️ Cloudlands AU ☁️
Fairly OddParents
A serious deep-dive into FOP's worldbuilding, with a focus on sewing seemingly conflicting canon together to create consistent lore. Heavy emphasis on non-human biology and complex magical cultures.
#ridwork guides
What Is Cloudlands AU?
An FOP series ft. detailed lore and character relationships. The goal is fanfics that expand on the show's canon without conflicting it if at all possible, even if that means wild explanations.
Why does Crocker's portal to Fairy World have a completely new design every time it appears? Who's that anti-fairy kid Jorgen claims H.P. and Anti-Cosmo raised together? What's up with the Sacred Silver Pencil Sharpener of Canada? And are you telling me Cosmo and Wanda were assigned as godparents to Erg 40,000 years before they were married, presumably while Wanda and Juandissimo were dating? What was that like? We talk about it all!
A carefully considered magic system does a lot of heavy lifting. ❤️
AO3 Series: 130 Station, Rainbow Train, and Other Arcs
FOP blog tag - #FAIRIES!
Tone
Mostly drama with fluff and angst mixed in.
Characters
Mainly Pixies (H.P. & Sanderson), Anti-Fairies (Anti-Cosmo, Anti-Wanda, Foop), & the late modern kids (Poof, Goldie, Goldie's counterpart Anti-Marigold).
Cosmo, Wanda, Timmy, Chloe, and other humans (such as Denzel Crocker, Kevin Crocker, Gary, Betty, and Ed Leadly) also have arcs and messy backstories.
Ships
Canon-compliant, but expanded on. Ex:
- Anti-Cosmo married his childhood betrothed while Anti-Wanda was dating Anti-Juandissimo.
- H.P. and several OCs across his long life. Those romances go... great!
- Shout-out to Mark/Vicky, Poof/Goldie, Foop/Anti-Marigold, Foop/Anti-Coriander, Timmy/Molly & Chloe/Kevin (My beloveds...)
- Also worth mentioning that I treat Wanda/Juandissimo as a sincere and pleasant part of their backstories. They went their separate ways, but had a non-abusive dating life. They were friends :)
- Sanderson has a ton of will o' the wisp dating life issues, but we don't have time to unpack that right now.
Setting
Most works take place in the cloudlands, which include Fairy World, Anti-Fairy World, and Pixie World. Some works takes place in Dimmsdale. Rarely works take place elsewhere, such as alien planets or Unwish Island.
Is It For Me?
This AU is highly detailed. It clings to canon to the point of being ridiculous. It can be tough to get into due to long works and a heavy focus on less popular characters (such as Pixies), but there's a lot to read.
This AU focuses more on magical beings in the supporting cast than it does the main cast, but there are still notable pieces about the mains.
For a breakdown of detailed lore, see the Orange Train post
Major Themes
Growing up, making mistakes, pushing through hard times, recovery, revenge, forgiveness, growth, change, and letting go.
Plot Highlights
- Origin of the Pixies - A young H.P. contracts the real-world bacteria Wolbachia pipientis, which causes wasps to reproduce asexually. Now he's caring for an exponentially increasing amount of pixies he never wanted in the first place, on top of drama like his wife accusing him of cheating and him being kidnapped by Cupid's family because he's the holotype of a brand new species.
- Frayed Knots - Anti-Cosmo, raised in the anti-fairy baby ban era, experiments with Anti-Fairy biology in the hopes he'll discover a loophole to achieve his dream of being a father. In doing so, he finds a breakthrough that could possibly flip biology around so Anti-Fairies are the hosts and Fairies are their reflective counterparts bound to their whims... and he becomes obsessed with fathering a generation whose biology is exactly that.
- 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash - Happy Peppy Gary and Betty were raised as Pixie tools since they were 10. At age 18, Betty opts to wipe her magical memories, cut ties with Gary, and move to Brightburg. Gary, blindsided and desperate, throws himself down a trainwreck of bad decisions in an attempt to retrieve her memories from Fairy World. Everybody clap for him. (And other stories.)
- Come What May - Kevin Crocker spends the spring with an uncle and grandmother he's never met. Ghosts, the popular kids, an anti-fairy, and his uncle's talking cat make it their personal mission to bother him. It's a good thing he's dead inside.
Ongoing?
This long-term passion project began in March 2016. It is ongoing with intent to wrap up the existing projects in the next several years. Updates tend to come in bursts with breaks in between.
- Want AO3 emails? Subscribing to both the Rainbow Train & 130 Station series will cover everything in Cloudlands AU.
- Or, subscribe to specific plot arcs. Find the list HERE.
Warnings, notes, and explanations below so readers can learn more about this AU. Proceed with caution. Don't like? Don't read.
- There are abused children, neglectful adults, and non-human characters in fanfics for the show about abused children, neglectful adults, and non-human characters?? Scandalous. (Seriously though, this one's a doozy)
👀 Take a Peek
New here? You might like to start with these:
- "Mama's Boy" (G - 3000 words) - A back-and-forth comparison of Cosmo's upbringing against Anti-Cosmo's. Quick and easy read, and definitely a fan-favorite.
- "Make You Proud" (G - 4700 words) - Anti-Wanda is excited that she won a gold medal at the Fairy World Games. She tries to get Anti-Cosmo's attention while he's distracted with the event. Fluffy, silly character study.
- "Step Back" (G - 5600 words) - Foop gets overwhelmed at a party with his extended family. A brief glimpse into Anti-Fairy World and who Foop is shaping up to be as a person. Foop is my favorite to write character studies for and this is an oldie, but a goodie.
- "Solo" (T - 6000 words) - A young pixie answers phones as part of his coming of age trial. Things go awry when Gary and Betty call for help from Florida and the inexperienced pixie is at a loss about how to get them back to California. Takes place during the S4 episode "Baby Face." Huge personal favorite of mine; this is where plot really kicks off. Good introduction to the drama you can expect in a lot of my work.
- "Sentry" (G - 6000 words) - The start of a 3-part arc about Poof, Foop, and their pixie classmate (Finley) at boarding school before transitioning to spring break. The arc starts with Poof getting in trouble for fighting, then moves to Poof reflecting while on the bus, then moves to the three kids spending time with their grandparents.
- Very soft drama with some fluff; a good taste without getting overwhelmed. Also, this arc is more recent than the pieces above, which were posted in 2016. - Takes place at the end of 130 Prompts Arc 2, so it does contain very minor plot spoilers.
Start Reading
Recommended ways to get into the full AU
🌄 First Written - Baby, You're a Rich Man
H.P. and Sanderson got their hands on a baby clown. Now they just have to get him safely back to Pixie World when they've been deprived of magic and damaged their truck.
- Based on the Season 4 episode "School's Out! The Musical" - An introduction to magic basics, biology, and world lore through Sanderson's eyes. - Throws readers directly into the thick of things with Sanderson's meandering thoughts and extremely unhealthy fixation on H.P. and/or taking over as Head Pixie someday
🗑️ 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash
The 130 Prompts project is a series of one-shots that explores my FOP character ideas and worldbuilding.
- "Excitement" (G - 7500 words) - The first piece written for my series 130 Reasons Why I'm Fairy Trash. It's about the Pixies traumatizing 10-year-old Gary and Betty at an amusement park so they'll cling to safety in the future. From here, you can read the 130 Prompts series in recommended order if you like.
If you're new to my worldbuilding, I recommend reading the prompts in the suggested order instead of chronological order. This way, you'll be given worldbuilding info in order instead of jumping to a piece where that info is assumed.
📅 Chronological Start - "First Things First"
A 10k-word piece (G-rated) about nature spirit OCs, featuring cameos of canon characters like Mother Nature, Father Time, and the Grim Reaper. This piece sets up lore for the Fairy zodiac, which plays a role in Frayed Knots especially.
- Each piece in the 130 Prompts series has Previous and Next links so you can either read in recommended order or you can follow the chronology from start to end. - Reading chronologically is not recommended unless you're already familiar with the worldbuilding - Full timeline chronology (Entire Cloudlands AU)
🗺️ Worldbuilding - So, You're Studying the Cloudlands...
A collection of worldbuilding and meta essays covering subjects like biology, culture, history, holidays, magic, maps, and a handbook on new godkid assignments.
You may also like my @riddledeep blog, where I first posted this meta. I'm currently moving things to the guide linked above. This way, the content is backed up and accessible to those who don't use Tumblr. Posts will remain on the blog.
📋 AU Notes & Warnings
Author writes villain encounters & villain backstories about complex non-human societies and does not inherently condone any viewpoints presented by characters or the societies they live in.
- This series focuses heavily on Pixies, Anti-Fairies, and cloudland or Fae culture. There is less focus on human godchildren or the main characters in the show (like Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda).
- This series is built so that many intricate storylines and worldbuilding elements weave together. There's no shame in skipping pieces you don't want to read, but you may miss plot or worldbuilding details important to the larger story. It can be intimidating to get into such a big project.
- This series does have fluff, but relies on drama. Content may be upsetting, and the order you read things may limit the chance for mental breaks.
- Lots of drama and complicated things going on. I recently changed the rating of my longfics to Not Rated & Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings due to the sheer variety of things, such as:
- Fantastic racism (Fairies, Anti-Fairies, Pixies, genies, and others disliking each other)
-> Show canon heavily implies these races have conflict. Jorgen faced no pushback for calling Norm a "filthy genie" on international TV. Jorgen and others refer to Pixies with rude terms such as "cone-headed freaks", etc.
- Social ladder/caste system (Cupid's ancestors organized fae in a list many generations ago to help Fairies find species with heat cycles that overlapped theirs, but the system has been corrupted into legal discrimination)
- Biologically assigned status (Male Fairies who eat a lot of jelly at a young age will develop into gynes: big, tough, freckled Fairies who fight with each other to defend their turf and drone companions. Think how H.P. and Big Daddy have unique body shapes compared to the other Fairies. They're gynes!)
- Some young bees are fed royal jelly so they develop into queens. The name for these "princesses" is gynes, so I yoinked that
- Most of the pixies are drones, apart from a few gynes. Vice President Longwood is due to succeed H.P. as Head Pixie someday, which Sanderson (a drone) absolutely despises.
- Fairies lick each other in greeting to spread pheromones, mirroring a hive of eusocial bees that gather near the queen to lick her
It's basically a non-sexual A/B/O dynamic, which was completely unintentional and I got a good laugh out of it when I realized what A/B/O was years ago. Convergent evolution...
- Mpreg - It's canon in the show that male Fairies give birth. I don't have anything to say about it; just that it's canon in my work too and treated with the same sincerity as everything else.
- Injury - Includes long-term injury, temporary injuries, and self-harm (Ex: Cutting your palm to stop using magic so you won't age). I don't consider this series bloody or gory. Fairies do have rainbow blood that's mentioned occasionally, but they're very elastic and heal quickly. The humans don't really have bloody moments.
- Character death - Most common when gynes fight to the death, but I've written other deaths as well, such as one where the Pixies caused a car crash on purpose because it benefited them.
-> Fairies are very resilient. Anti-Fairies regenerate if they're killed, as they can't die if their host counterpart (the Fairy) still lives. Death isn't overly common in my 'fics, but I'd feel weird warning for other things and not mentioning this one.
- Sexism (Anti-Fairy World tends to look down on women; Anti-Cosmo in particular tends to parrot the sexist beliefs he grew up with and gets annoyed at pushback)
-> Male bats often mate with many females (up to 30 sometimes). I built Anti-Fairy society around the idea that females outnumber males, but males see it as a sign that many women should be subservient to them because "it's nature." Anti-Cosmo is a product of his culture. Diversity loss! The villain has harmful views!
-> Anti-Fairies tend to be less racist and more sexist than Fairies while Fairies tend to be less sexist and more racist.
- Honey-lock - Anti-Fairies get flooded with hormones and magic 3 months after their counterparts mated. The pair are driven to locate each other, mate, and produce children in reflection of their counterparts.
-> what do you mean that's traumatizing? Dang, you guys live like this?
-> Anti-Cosmo's underlying goal in Frayed Knots is to beat the system so the next generation of Anti-Fairies will be born without the honey-lock's effects.
- Sociosexual Anti-Fairy culture - Anti-Fairies have a touch-based society themed around bonobos because I thought it would be interesting, particularly in a society where pregnancy is out of your control anyway (i.e. you can't accidentally get pregnant- It's in your counterparts' hands).
-> I do think "It feels good and we have few consequences, so why not?" is a reasonable direction for their culture
-> I'm not sure I would make that same choice years later, as it can be quite off-putting, but I'm glad I got to worldbuild with such unique building blocks. I enjoy it, but it's not for everyone.
- Infidelity (Anti-Cosmo cheats on his wife before Anti-Wanda and is implied to sometimes cheat on Anti-Wanda)
-> You're telling me the sexist sociosexual culture has infidelity and the evil villain fell into it? Bummer...
- Iris Virus - Having colored eyes in Anti-Fairy culture is played as an STD that's ceremonially passed to new individuals (because... sociosexual culture).
-> Also, what was I supposed to do with almost every Anti-Fairy having red eyes but Anti-Cosmo, Anti-Wanda, Foop, and the occasional background Anti-Fairy have other colors? Genetics? No way! 😃👍
-> RIP Anti-Cosmo. I'm sorry I find it hilarious that you cheat on all your partners and then sob like your trust's been shattered when your wife chooses to pass the virus on to secure allegiance with a valuable ally. Her body, her choice, dude.
- Child, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse (Frayed Knots in particular is not a hunky-dory story; Anti-Cosmo was often hit as a child. Some characters are cruel to Anti-Cosmo and he is cruel to others as well.
-> There are abuse themes in the Fairly OddParents 'fics?? The TV show about abused kids? what won't they think up next.
-> Cosmo's mother is doting in canon, so I portray Anti-Cosmo's mom as abusive to him.
-> Living in a sexist sociosexual culture sometimes leads to sexual abuse?? Also, belonging to a species that is magically forced to reproduce when your counterparts do even if you didn't consent is probably also sexual abuse? wild.
-> In Origin of the Pixies, H.P. was kidnapped by a will o' the wisp in his younger years and pressured into sex while she was producing milk for newborn Sanderson.
-> H.P. is emotionally distant and not the best at coping with what happened to him. He doesn't necessarily pursue help or get the best closure to this story. Don't hold the villains up as role models.
-> Foop has an alternate personality. This is canon; here's a compilation video I made of his appearances in the series (Note, this compilation includes Foop's Terrific Twos and some scenes where his alter is implied with eye highlights and a high voice to be there, but not confirmed). It's heavily implied he gained this personality due to being isolated in Abracatraz since the day he was born.
-> Cupid's family kills any children that aren't born triplets due to a sacred oath his ancestors took to uphold love all hours of the day. Tradition requires three children to split the magic by way of Morning, Afternoon, and Evening.
-> I would say it's also child abuse that Jorgen was raised with all the pressures of being Keeper of the Rules from the moment he was born, including being pressured to cut off his own wings in line with the tradition of "noble self-sacrifice."
- Young characters & implied offscreen sex - Are you seriously telling me the popular teens might've had sex when they were something like 150,000 years old and they'd been together since childhood? What on earth.
-> In Anti-Fairy society, you're recognized as a full adult at age 150,000.
-> In Fairy World, you're recognized as an adult when you moult your juvenile wings and grow your adult wings. This is generally between ages 140,000 and 180,000.
-> In Pixie World, you're recognized as a full adult at age 250,000. H.P. keeps age of majority high to encourage his pixies to establish themselves in Pixie World instead of leaving. These are non-human cultures that each have their own views.
-> Poof and Goldie have an arc about Goldie having Harm OCD over the fear that she'll fall into her will o' the wisp species stereotype and take advantage of Poof. Meanwhile, Poof has panic attacks because he's pretty sure she did, but blames himself for not being more self-aware. 😬
-> Foop gave his lover Anti-Marigold the iris virus when they were considered young adults in Anti-Fairy society (but still in school) to see if his dad would notice. Years later, he has a breakdown over the fact Anti-Cosmo never did, nor does he seem to care if his son is being reckless.
-> The sexual part of the Celebrity Kids arc is kept off-screen throughout the 130 Prompts. This arc is about the stress of being high schoolers treated like celebrities, ambassadors, royalty, and sports stars.
- Implied incest in H.P.'s family line before he was born (In the old days, it was common to marry cousins to preserve money. This custom has ended in modern times, but comes up on rare occasion)
-> It's implied this family history led to the genetic mutation that gave him wasp biology; that mutation plays a big role in his story.
-> H.P. talks about how he admires his counterpart, whom he considers a cousin. Sometimes other characters mock his admiration because of his infamous family history. It's not even important in his present-day life; it's just that my 'fics are full of jerks.
Some topics may make you uncomfortable. You don't have to read them, but that's part of fleshing out these very detailed, long-lived cultures and their messy underbellies. They're Fae. Were you expecting giddy fluff?

You can create works based on this AU. Please cite me and/or the AU as appropriate (i.e. for things very specific to this AU). You are free to expand on ideas you've thought of thanks to my AU as a jumping off point. I'd love to reblog or link things to my AO3 works if I see them!
I write drama content with morally gray characters. Please don't portray my story events or worldbuilding out of context with intentional malice. In other words, I request you do not post things created for the specific intention of mocking me or the AU. It's not to everyone's tastes, but it's built with sincerity and it is loved <3

Gladiator II (2024) review
Been there done that.
Plot: Years after witnessing the death of Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius must enter the Colosseum after the powerful emperors of Rome conquer his home. With rage in his heart and the future of the empire at stake, he looks to the past to find the strength and honor needed to return the glory of Rome to its people.
So me and my wife only recently rediscovered the first Gladiator film and having previously only watched it once when I was a child I evidently did not appreciate the grandiose mastery at play, as that first Gladiator movie is fantastic. From the powerful performances to the epic action to the high spectacle set pieces to Hans Zimmer’s incredible emotional music score…. makes me think of that meme with Homelander proclaiming “it was perfect!”. Truly me and my wife would both now say that Gladiator has sky-rocketed to the top of our favourite films of all time, and also makes me appreciate how great of a director Ridley Scott once was. He still makes some decent projects now such as The Martian and The Last Duel, however he’s very much a hit and miss director at the moment. But back in the day with the likes of Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise and the aforementioned Gladiator, the guy can like REALLY make a movie! As such having grown a new appreciation for his Roman epic, I was really looking forward to but also sceptical over the upcoming sequel. For one due to so much time passing since the original, and also lack of Russell Crowe for obvious reasons and the trailers suggesting that this new one is essentially a copy of the original. The latter aspect especially was a concern, for the original film was a multiple Academy Award winning motion picture, so trying to recapture that same flame would be silly. So my hope was that Scott and the team would try and do something new and different whilst still in-keeping the world created by the original film. Question is, was it worth all this wait, and more importantly, was I entertained??
Look, I don’t one to be one of those snobs who compares a sequel to its original, but it’s difficult not to (so seems like I’ll be snobbing it today!) due to the reputation of the first one, as well as the fact that Gladiator 2 (or II if you’re into your Roman numerals) is in essence a repackaged version of the first movie. Well, part of it is. The whole plot line involving Paul Mescal’s Lucius going on his revenge quest into the Colosseum is that rehash, and unfortunately it is the primary storyline of the film. The issue with this is it naturally ends up living in the shadow of its predecessor. The other more interesting narrative is one that involves acting legend Denzel Washington (spawning a lovely American accent in Rome but the man is so entertaining to watch you cannot help but forgive him his transgressions) where he tries to take over Rome by weaselling his way to the top of Rome’s political hierarchy. That stuff is actually great, and him manipulating the two emperors and causing their eventual downfall was really intriguing to witness. Shame that this story beat only really came to full effect in the last 30 mins of the movie.
As for the performances, as this one boasts a stacked cast. I’m sorry to Paul Mescal fans, but he’s really stale and bland in the main role of Lucius, or more-so Maximus 2.0. It doesn’t help that the script by David Scarpa lacks any depth or character development that made the original Gladiator so compelling, but even on the basics of acting Mescal doesn’t do much with his role. Like his wife dies and I never really felt like he gave that much of a crap. Or whenever he had to deliver any level of emotion, I never felt it. In the original Russell Crowe manages to portray so much through his eyes. The versatility of his face with watching him switch from emotion to emotion was actually incredible. For example when Commodus tried to goad him into attacking him, and you can physically see this breaking Maximus’ mind and then taking every ounce of being to hold his composure and pulling himself back together and then saying “I will kill you but not right now” or something along those lines….like guys that was pure cinema! So yep, Paul Mescal has none of that. He delivers what is supposed to be an inspirational monologue at the end of the film about strengths and honour and I did not give a single dollop of a turd.
Pedro Pascal was in this film less than I expected. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Pedro, but here for the few scenes he’s in he spends moping about wishing for a better Rome, which was all good and sound only that that was his only character trait! Like seriously I cannot underline how weak of a script this movie has! Take the two tyrannical emperors for example. Joseph Quinn (aka Eddie from Stranger Things) to be fair as Emperor Geta was quite watchable, but his brother Emperor Caracalla played by Fred Hechinger was a straight up knock off of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus from the first film. Except that the brat that was Commodus was given the necessary build-up, as you could tell from the beginning of the movie that his dad (played by the late Richard Harris) was probably a terrible father who spent too much time wanting to build up the empire by endlessly invading everywhere rather than spend time with his children. As such Commodus is raised to be a wuss, so his actions in the film have sense. In Gladiator 2 though Caracalla literally is an unstable prick and that’s it. So again I cannot necessarily blame Hechinger as his performance was based on the limited info that was given to him, but this doesn’t result for a compelling character. Connie Nielsen is one of the only returning characters (aside from Derek Jacobi) from the first film, and I’ll give her props, she seemed to be acting her ass off, so much so that when she shared scenes with Mescal even he showed glimmers of emotion. Finally we have Denzel Washington, who to be fair from the trailers I expected a much more extravagant and absurd performance from, but nevertheless he seems to be having a lot of fun in this role, and to be fair the movie really turns up a notch every time he appeared. Also did not expect by the end of 2024 to be shipping Denzel with Tim McInnerny from Blackadder yet here we are.
The direction from Ridley Scott is strong to be fair, and the impressive set piece of the Colosseum and the tense blockbuster-level action fights in the arena were great to watch, now with the added flavour of baboons and sharks (yes, sharks). Costumes and make-up are all great and there was something nice about seeing a true historical epic at the movies. I give Scott props, he’s the only major filmmaker currently still trying to keep that genre alive, with his recent other releases being Napoleon and The Last Duel.
The music though by Harry Gregson-Williams is a very generic historical epic score, and very much a downgrade from Hans Zimmer’s masterclass work in the original. That’s the thing with Gladiator 2 - basically everything about it was done better by the original, and it really feels like it too. I’m still happy that this movie will be seen in the cinemas though (my screening was absolutely packed and most of the screening for the film on the day were sold out too) as it allows for the genre of historical epics to still live on. That being said though, I am not entertained.
Overall score: 4/10

I have an AU in my head where Gaia gets sick of the Sephiroth’s shit and ends up tuning him back into a baby and shipping him off to Cloud to raise differently.
Like she full of grandma Pascal’s him like “He said mommy I want to destroy every living creature on the planet, but I said m’hijo, don’t do that do something else!”
And Cloud has only a little concept of what’s happening when he helps Tseng excavate an old project S lab. He had a dream about a Moses basket in the middle of a burning Nibelhiem and the sound of crying. He just thought It was new parent anxiety over taking on Denzel, but it all suddenly makes sense when he looks into an incubation chamber and sees a tiny silver haired baby squirming to be held.
He’s annoyed about it obviously. Gaia seems to be under the impression she says jump and Cloud asks how high, but he’s also smart enough to know that this is a chance to save the General and the planet from an endless war. So he scoops up babyroth and takes him back to edge to raise him.
It’s tough going at first. Sephiroth’s is not an easy baby. He’s fussy; his cries can and will shatter glass; he’s stronger than he should be for what Cloud would wager is only about four months old. He starts teething early; he has opinions about carrots and bananas (much to the walls dismay) once he gets onto solid foods; he’s demanding in that way that only baby’s can be, but it seems a little bit more than that.
It takes everyone a while to figure out that what he actually is, is traumatised. He’s clingy in a way that shatters Clouds soul because if they put him down he panics. If he can’t see Cloud, even for a second, Sephiroth seems to think he’s been abandoned.
Eventually though, Seph settles a little, and it doesn’t feel so much like Cloud is running on two hours sleep accumulatively and sheer will power alone. Seph seems to smile a little more and there’s a little look of wonder in his little mako blue eyes that makes everybody melt.
Tifa finds it the hardest to reconcile this tiny child with the man who murdered her father, and it does put significant strain on her relationship with Cloud for a while (that’s not a judgment on Tifa btw, girls aloud to feel conflicted.)
Barrat on the other hand is of the opinion that the Goddess knows what she’s doing and a baby is a baby even if it did commit atrocities in a past life. It’s not current Sephs fault that his human parents experimented on him and a Alien symbiotic parasite god sent him mad. Current Seph just wants grapes and Barrats enough of a sucker for Rosie cheeks to give them to him.
Vincent is very careful with Seph (who they’ve all collectively decided never to full name unless he’s in trouble.). When he’s home from travelling he speaks to him quietly about everything and nothing. He doesn’t really touch him to start with, which frustrates little Seph who seems to think the cloak will add extra comfy cuddles. Over time though, Cloud,Barret and surprisingly Cid (who appears to randomly know a thing or two about babies.) help him get over his fear of hurting the little boy. Seph really enjoys cuddle time with Vincent, and learns to demand to be “upped” whenever he comes home.
Cloud, for his part is just dad, which he finds endlessly strange. He’d never really taken on that role for Denzel, he was the boys guardian sure, but they’d never really discussed the whole “if you want to call me Cloud that’s cool, but if you want me to be your dad I can be that too” thing. Marlene wasn’t his; Barrat was her dad and Cloud was Cloud. A parent of sorts, but not her Father. He was more like a devoted uncle really.
With Seph though it’s different. Cloud is this baby’s entire universe, and once language starts coming into play, various versions of “dada” become increasingly common. He’s not sure how he feels about it at first; this is the man who slaughtered his mother and decimated his villiage, the man who killed Aerith… but he was also just a baby.
This version of Sephiroth didn’t know what he’d done. Gaia had given him a chance at redemption and Cloud will be damned if he holds the acts of a mad man against a kid; no matter the circumstance.
So he’s dad. He feeds Seph, plays with him, baths him, puts him to bed, reads to him and teaches him everything he can. He doesn’t lie to him, and he always explains when Seph doesn’t understand.
And if Tifa slowly adjusts to being Mama then that’s nobodies business but their own.
Life’s nice being a family. Maybe they’ll add to it one day…
Or maybe Cloud will trip over a double Moses basket one day on the way out of the door to work, and when he looks down he sees two little crowns of hair one dark one red, and similar sets of shiny Mako eyes.
Maybe the little red headed one will cough weakly, and the dark haired one will fuss.
And maybe Cloud will curse himself for being a sucker for babies that used to be evil maniacs.

SHADOWs of GHOST Character Playlist💜
Heyo! So I’ve been working on this over the course of the year, typically having some days where I go on a rabbit hole to find songs and then other times just throwing songs in as I hear them and see them fit. It’s finally at a place where everyone has a fair amount of music to share: I’ve been aiming for 3-5 per character and have finally reached that.
Everyone involved is a major character of the SHADOWs of GHOST trilogy, which includes: E.G.O vs A.L.T.E.R, GHOST vs SHADOW agents, and the Drifters. My goal was to find music with lyrical meanings that I thought fit my headcanons/interpretations of the skins, or music that fit their general vibes (but not necessarily music I think they’d listen to, though I did try to keep it to genres I associate with them). I’ve been fairly picky with every song and though most of them are carefully and intentionally chosen, a few are them are biases from my own music taste/favorite artists (The Warning, A7X, tøp).
I’m aiming for everyone to have 5 songs in the end and will continuously be updating (and sharing the updates as I do, hopefully). Currently, the ones who don’t have 5 are: Maya, Jules, Outcast, Riptide, Chic, Rue
Fusion and Chaos Agent are included, with Fusion having only 3 and Chaos Agent only having 1. Chaos Agent’s one song is intentional; I’m satisfied with Fusion’s only 3 but this might change.
Without further ado, here’s the individual list (with occasional comments :))
GHOST
Midas
The Fever - Foreign Figures
Glitter & Gold - Barns Courtney
Only One King - Tommee Profitt, Jung Youth
Feeling Good - Michael Bublé (a classic and obvious choice, if a bit cliche)
Gold - Imagine Dragons
Brutus
Indestructible - Disturbed
All Eyes On You - Smash Into Pieces
M.I.A - Avenged Sevenfold
This Is What I Live For - Graffiti Ghosts
Fight For My Survival - The Phantoms
Brutus was one of the more difficult ones to choose songs for, I’m not sure why. I’m not 100% satisfied but I don’t hate it either; Indestructible is really the only 100%.
TNTina
Take Cover - UNSECRET, Emily Kopp
Bomber - Girlschool
S!CK - The Warning
The Trouble - Club Danger
Trouble - Valerie Broussard
Meowscles
‘Till I Collapse - Eminem, Nate Dogg
Ready For It - J.Pollock, Manwell
Ready To Play - Club Danger
Die For You - The Siege
All I Do Is Win - DJ Khaled, etc. (i’m obsessed with the emote so I felt obligated to throw this one in lmao, fits decently anyway)
Skye
It Is What It Is - Jenna Raine
Irony - majiko
Cloudy Day - Tones And I
Wildflowers - Maddie Poppe
The Pines - Roses & Revolutions
Maya
again&again - Against The Current, guardin
Younger - The Aces
Best Excuse - Saint Chaos
To My Younger Self - Britton
Drifters
Jules
overwhelmed - Royal & The Serpent
Conversations - Marney
Idle Worship - Paramore
Gasoline - Halsey
CHOKE - The Warning (bias pick but I also feel it fits her story well.)
Ocean
Protector - City Wolf
Wildfire - The Warning
I Am The Fire - Halestorm
Born For This - The Score
Warrior Inside - Leader
Fade
Last Semester - twenty one pilots
Feel Good Inc. Gorillaz
Bad Habit - Steve Lacy
Dynasties & Dystopia (from Arcane) - Denzel Curry, Gizzle, Bren Joy
Butterflies & Hurricanes - Muse
Fade’s songs are entirely based on vibes if I’m being honest, though I believe Last Semester/Butterflies & Hurricanes do fit more than that. I actually do see him listening to Gorillaz and twenty one pilots :)
Kit
Running Free - Iron Maiden
Riot - Three Days Grace
Burn It Down - Skillet
Welcome To The Family - Avenged Sevenfold
Get Up - All Good Things
Cute little kitten’s built-in emote is rock/metal in game, so I had to incorporate it into his music here. A7X is for vibes and bias; okay maybe most of the songs besides Running Free are for vibes.
Siona
Runaway - AURORA
Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead
Starlight - Muse
Saturn - SZA
No Roots - Alice Merton
Eternal Knight
Noble Blood - Tommee Profitt, Fleurie
Ruins - Ella Isaacson
One Time - King Crimson
Throne - Saint Mesa
Breath of Life - Florence + The Machine
I tried the hardest to match vibes with meanings for her songs for some reason, which was slightly difficult because she’s a knight and so I wanted the vibes to reflect the medieval theme. I feel Ruins kind of breaks that but the meaning fit too well with her journey and falling out with the knights.
E.G.O
Journey
Mountains - We Are All Fossils
Stand By You - Rachel Platten (biased because it’s one of my personal anthems)
Pocketful of Sunshine - Natasha Bedingfield (Journey’s personality is like the definition of sunshine so)
This Mountain - Faouzia
Marigolds - early eyes
Turk
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Angler - The Rills (entirely vibes + the title)
It’s My Life - Bon Jovi
Ride On - AC/DC
Somewhere Only We Know - Keane
The decision for Turk to have mainly classic rock was so easy, but not as easy for me to incorporate because I don’t listen to a lot of classic rock. Regardless I’m satisfied with the choice :)
8-Ball
Rain (from The Suicide Squad) - grandson, Jessie Reyez
Raise My Flag - ill Factor, Graham Cochrane
Losing Blood - Weathers
Stressed Out - twenty one pilots
The Unforgiven II - Metallica
Give this guy a hug bro
Remedy
Gilded Lily - Cults
Free To Decide - The Cranberries
CROW - UPIKO
Taking Care of Things - Cavetown
anemone - BAND-MAID
Give her a hug too wow. As a medical professional she’s seen a lot, and in my headcanon backstory she went through some rough patches growing up. These things made up the choices of pretty much the first four songs. anemome is a bias pick because I’m obsessed with the song, but also because I headcanon her as Japanese alongside 8-Ball and Scratch.
Cameo
Ready Or Not - HAYZ
Me Too - Meghan Trainor (such an obvious pick when i finally heard the song again)
Machine - Misterwivez
Make It Look Easy - Valley of Wolves
The Rush - JJ Wilde
Outcast
Airhead - Honey Revenge
Six Feet Deep - Neoni, Besomorph
Walking on Water - Astyria
Relentless - Lost Stars
DISCIPLE - The Warning
A.L.T.E.R/SHADOW
Toxin
Maybe, I - Des Rocs
Used To The Darkness - Des Rocs
In The Shadows - Amy Stroup
Cold Blood - Valen
Pick Your Poison - Black Pistol Fire
Hazard
OUTLAW - Neoni
Never Say Die - Neoni
Cynical - Emei
yes & no - XYLØ
Fallin’ - Your Neighbors
Riptide
Get Over It - The Eagles
Leading The Pack - Sam Tinnesz
Come and Get It from Me - Sun Heat
The Hunter - Adam Jensen
Scratch
Last Man Standing - Graffiti Ghosts
Winner - Walgrove
Hustler - Zayde Wølf
Run This Town - Konata Small, Zayde Wølf
Reckless - JAXSON GAMBLE
The last two are also shared with Zadie—I like to imagine them as an epic assassin/mercenary duo before Scratch gets tied up with the Alter Ego stuff.
Chic
Hush - The Marías
Smile For The Camera - UPSAHL
Bubblegum Bitch - MARINA
O.D.D - Hey Violet
Messy - Lola Young
Sorana
Hit and Run - LOLO
Teach Me To Fight - YONAKA
Traitor - Daughtry
Are You Ready? - Kat Meoz
Bad Reputation - Joan Jett
Rue
god sent me as karma - emlyn
Crystallised - The XX
Back With A Vengeance - Portals
Only 3 songs kind of disappoints me but as I said I’m really picky. Technically, her whole thing is vengeance based on her skin description but in SoG there’s a little more going on. I already have two vengeance songs and I don’t want to make all of it about revenge. There was a fourth song but I removed it for that reason.
Fusion
Misfit Lunatic - MISSIO
The One To Survivor - Hidden Citizens, Josh Bruce Williams
Rebel Renegade - Tommee Profitt - Beacon Light
Chaos Agent
The Reckoning - UNSECRET, Matthew Perryman Jones
And finally, what felt like the one and most obvious choice for Chaos Agent.
Thanks for checking this list out! As I said I will continue updating it as I find the last few songs or switch ones out if I see fit. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays or Happy Wednesday everyone!! Have some good food, enjoy time with family, and overall have a great day <3
