I’m gonna be honest with y’all. My personal headcanon for pre degradation Genesis, is that he’s basically someone’s grumpy -mildly alcoholic- maiden aunt.

He sits there silently, and judges you with his eyebrows raised like “child, are you dim?”

He says things like “if people didn’t want my scathing comments they’d try harder,”

He crosses his legs elegantly and drapes his arm over his knee while he sips at his wine.

He outwardly despises Zack but is actually rather fond of him.

He makes unsuspecting cadets read to him as he sits in an armchair and complains about their diction.

His volatile house cat is Sephiroth.

When somebody starts telling him something he doesn’t want to hear he either “takes a funny turn” or gets a migraine and has to go “lie upon the couch”.

He professes to hate children but has been caught speaking softly to them about being gentle with ladybugs and secretly preening when children give him drawings or random gifts in the street.

Kids actually love Genesis because he’s so sarcastic and outlandishly grumpy towards them. But he’s always nice to them when it’s important.

It’s why the infantry likes him. Most of them are still teenagers. They like that he does t treat them like grunts. He just treats them like he treats everyone. As a mild annoyance.

He adopts cadet strife like Aunt March adopting Amy and takes him on missions just so he can get to know him. He may or may not be planning to leave his entire fortune to said blonde in his will.

The funny thing about watching David Gallagher (Rikus Voice actor) get annoyed at KH1 is that I can 100% see Riku getting fustrated over the same things.

Because Riku’s a perfectionist. He’s good at everything and hasn’t really ever “failed” something on a physical level before.

So imagine Riku getting annoyed at the vine swinging in Deep jungle, and Sora rather astutely says:

“Do you maybe think that your getting frustrated because your used to being able to do things the first time round, and this is the first time you’ve had to fail at something like this?”

And all he gets back is a grumpy “shut your face Sora” from Riku.

cloud is one of the only characters i will voluntarily draw skinny but only to add to the wrongness of him. like thru the events of ff7 hes ten hours out of a coma post five years of genetic experimentation working for his bed with terrorists.

gaining weight is true healing tbh. post game? put some meat on his bones. i draw tifa and aerith and barrett and yuffie and cid bigger bc theyre living happy and healthy before the game. theyre muscular and chubby because their strength comes from work and training. cloud and vinny are powerful through experimentations that are destroying their bodies from the inside. postgame they are gonna gain weight because theyre working and rocovering and reclaiming their bodies and thats very special to me…

the fact that this cutie patootie becomes this hunk within the span of ~5 years makes me believe that puberty hit Angeal like a fucking 18 wheeler. And I'm willing to incorporate that into my headcanons

He has Genesis’ jealous streak and Sephs talent/ proclivity for darkness.

KH 1 is basically crisis core with Sora in the role of Zack and Riku in the role of both Gen and Seph.

He even looks a bit like both of them. Especially young Sephiroth. I desperately want to figure out how to write it but UGGGHHHHHH it would be PERFECT!
