on a sad note after reblogging cute emma (2020) post- about a week or two ago, i was decided to listen to johnny flynn and robert macfarlane's two albums because i like "queen bee" and i like robert macfarlane's books. and then i was like, so what's johnny flynn up to recently and check that out. and being in the new harry potter series is what he's been up to ew ew eeewwww

the first time that we see an actual pirate battle in black sails being from the point of view of a first timer who was there as an accountant.... people complain that black sails is a lot of talk and little action but like that's what organized armed forces are like! it's 90% logistics and 10% violence !! having the bloodless accountant of all people be our pov character who goes fucking apeshit in the adrenaline of survival is just sooo good !!!! it's so much better and more intense and grounded in the senses than if we had followed flint or billy, who we as an audience would not be able to relate to, and would have allowed us to distance ourselves from the reality of carnage. sorry this isn't particularly insightful i just LOVE black sails that's good writing babey! remember good writing ! rare good writing sighting ! good writing: not a myth. good writing: it's possible if you simply write good. it's that easy

a mutual or someone i follow made a post a while back about what theater productions they wished they could have seen, and one of them was something like "hadestown original broadway cast but reeve carney is sick that night." and every time, i listen to a song from the hadestown soundtrack with orpheus in it, that's all i can think about and it just cracks me up sm.
