Babaylan were our pre-colonial spiritual leaders who practiced animism. They were a matriarchy that allowed queer men in their ranks.
The co-existence of both feminine and masculine energies in the Babaylan meant that they were linked to the divine and were revered as such.
This is the story of the Babaylan, once revered and respected members of Philippine society, and how they were vilified, killed and erased by the Christian missionaries to allow the colonial religion to gain a foothold, enabling them to easily invade and plunder the Philippines.

METAL MUSIC AND NAZIS?
The funny thing about all these Nordic Nazis and fascists listening and producing metal music is that they're not only using a foreign genre, but also a genre that has its roots in AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC, especially rock, blues and jazz. So much "nazionalism" and "protecting your culture" while singing in English and using a foreign music genre. Why don't they create their own genre? or play their own traditional music genres? I guess polka and boiling cabbage are not "cool enough".
*pretends to be shocked*
In April 2018, accusations of neo-Nazi sympathies resurfaced after the news site Dagens ETC [sv] published an article revealing that Fredrik Widigs and Daniel Rostén had placed orders from the Nordic Resistance Movement web shop, according to leaked files from NRM servers.[7][8][9] The band have since denied these accusations, as well as any connection to the Nordic Resistance Movement. https://www.metalsucks.net/2023/05/18/bassist-vacates-marduk-after-on-stage-nazi-gesture-magnus-devo-andersson-to-fill-in/

Know Thine enemy
I am not a Jew and I’m not a citizen of Israel. I haven’t even visited Israel. I don’t trace my religion back to a holy site in Jerusalem and I don’t have a problem with Arabs or Muslims or Christians. I’ve read about Abraham, Moses, David and Solomon; the Umayyads, the Abbasids and the Ottomans; I know about the British, the Balfour declaration, Ben Gurion and Golda Meir. I know a bit about the Six-Day War and the Intifada. I might not have any personal stake in the Holy Land, but humanity certainly does - and I’m a human being.
The women, men, children, elderly people and soldiers who were kidnapped, tortured, raped, humiliated and murdered on Saturday by Hamas in sovereign Israel were human beings too.
Those who did it to them are not.
Imagine what kind of rational and ethical gymnastics you have to do to justify the cold-blooded murder of teenagers at a music festival; or watching a child, perhaps 5 years old, being prodded with a stick and made to cry for his mother in Hebrew while children of a similar age laugh and mock him? We don’t know that child’s fate and for all we know what followed may have been much worse. It’s depraved. To even enter a conversation about these disgraceful facts with a rehearsed retort about territory or Gaza being an “open-air prison” reeks of moral bankruptcy.
If you wail and scream about your land, dignity, rights, oppression and poverty but are willing to murder, rape, kidnap, torture or humiliate children; then I don’t have to listen to your reasons. When the video footage, photographs and stories of Saturday’s carnage come not from "Israeli propaganda” but from the Hamas terrorists themselves, then how am I to read anything else into it but that you want credit for these atrocities? You want me to know you did it. You want me to know you are proud of it. You want me to see you for who you are. Well, I do.
So, if you swarmed the Israeli Embassy in London, waving Palestinian flags and calling for genocide; if you went down to Times Square to celebrate a victory for decolonisation against “apartheid Israel”; if you sang along to “gas the Jews” chants at the Sydney Opera House or hung a “one settler, one bullet” Palestinian flag over Grayston bridge in Johannesburg then you’re telling me who you are. Well, I see you - and you’re my enemy.
I’m one of those people who believe civilisation is a real thing, and I’ve resisted the poison of moral relativists in the humanities departments of universities across the west who think that being nuanced about the idea of civilisation versus barbarism is a signal of intellectual prowess or critical self-reflection. Upon even a cursory investigation of these people or their positions, you will find every sign of pedestrian intelligence and self-absorbed navel-gazing, combined with a fetishisation of victimhood and always concomitant humourlessness. They too, are my enemies.
It is always interesting to note that only western liberal democracies tolerate and give succour to the most heinous arguments and positions in public protests. You couldn’t picket on the side of quite laudable things like education for girls in Taliban Afghanistan, gay rights in Syria, or against the death penalty in Saudi Arabia. The Ayatollahs of Iran wouldn’t allow women to protest the hijab there under threats of violence. But London, New York, Sydney and even Johannesburg will embrace marches where people actively call for genocide. This is not how allies behave.
Perhaps when the dust has settled we can examine the insidious links between Anglo-American leftism and antisemitism, between Europe never reckoning with what happened in the holocaust and their growing Muslim populations, and between ignorant regimes like mine in South Africa and their determination to stand alongside the worst human-rights abusers in the Middle East.
For now, it’s no big mystery that this has nothing to do with the existence of the State of Israel and everything to do with Jew-hatred - that great, festering wound in the side of humanity from which all prejudice flows. It has been there for thousands of years and every time we think it has healed, some monstrous collective claws it open again.
Hamas aren’t hiding the ball. Their leader, Ismail Haniyeh, safely skulking in Qatar, made this clear. He celebrated dead Jews, not territory won, nor Gazan lives saved.
I’m afraid there are only two sides in a war - your allies and your enemies. On September 11th, 2001, I knew whose side I was on. I feel the same today.

The state will always have a monopoly on violence as long as the military and police exist
The status quo has multiple on going ethnic cleaning, ethnocide, and genocide attempts, most notably in Gaza and the West Bank, businesses care more about profits than of the safety of miners in the DRC or sweatshop workers in Indonesia, Venezuela threats violence against Guyana, the PRC against Taiwan, Ethiopia against Eritrea, and Russia against every former USSR. Not to mention every act of violence the American military industrial complex seeking out wars to fund their military contracts and the American militarized police.
The status quo @brainstatic lives in is a world where their nation ON THE REGULAR causes violent overthrows of society for the sake of capital (Argentina, Brazil, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Gaza, Pakistan, Haiti, Nicaragua…)
Yet when the people call for an overthrow of this violent status quo, and overthrow for the increase in quality of life for all people around the world, using “Violence… the language of the unheard” as Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called it, we are the ones who are radicalized?
@brainstatic would call George Washington a terrorist, Sun Yat-sen a radicalized insurgent, would criticize Nelson Mandela for leading a coup, and would scoff at Marsha P. Johnson, Malcolm X, and Fred Hampton for throwing a brick, criticizing lynchings, and carrying a gun
@brainstatic lacks critical thinking skills or historical knowledge and quite frankly a brain
A little advice from someone studying extremist groups: if you’re in a social media environment where the daily ubiquitous message is that you have no hope of any kind of future and you can’t possibly achieve anything without a violent overthrow of society, you’re being radicalized, and not in the good way.

This is an introduction to Hozier playlist for my friend @junemermaid. The categories are a little idiosyncratic, but I think they make sense. I don't know what music services you have access to, so there are no links. I trust you can figure out how to get access to the songs.
Things I didn't know I needed words for until I heard these songs
Foreigner's God
Butchered Tongue (an introduction to the song from the Choctaw Theater in Oklahoma)
(additional reading: “A’ghailleann”: On Language-Learning and the Decolonisation of the Mind, by my friend Iona. It is about Gaelic and not having access to the first language you spoke, and how we deal with those sorts of things.)
Wry narration from self-aware narrators
Jackie and Wilson
Almost (Sweet Music)
Nobody
(What I mean is in contrast to something like this from Lord Huron. The narrator's a fucking idiot but I'm not sure he's aware of that.)
Horny but not really about sex (but not not either)
De Selby Part 2 (the video, starring fellow Irishman Domhnall Gleeson, is so pretentious, I love it to bits)
Talk (the song I'm totally going to make a Hannigram vid to, one of these days I swear)
NFWMB
Yes he really is Like That, Tumblr was not exaggerating
In a Week
Like Real People Do
In the Woods Somewhere
To be fair, I think he's gotten away from this a lot more since the debut album. People mean the bog prince nonsense affectionately, but I think they also use it as an excuse to ignore his more political songs. (On the other hand, the oatmeal.)
The way white people should cover songs by Black artists
Say My Name (more info on why he decided to cover it)
Problem > Regulate (As a child of the 90s I respect this so much)
The ones I'm really fucking angry about because they're gorgeous and beautiful and poetic
Work Song (the second song I would put on any Shepard/Garrus playlist)
Shrike
Unknown / Nth (this is an Aziraphale/Crowley song to me; the bridge fucking took me out at the knees the first time I heard it)
Abstract (Psychopomp) (This song is deeply weird in the best way. It is the perfect early oughts pop song I always wanted from Coldplay but it's about a formative and somewhat disturbing event in the narrator's childhood. But also about romantic love somehow?)
Unreal Unearth is, I think, a level up in terms of poetic lyricism.
The prettiest song you will ever hear about domestic violence and is really weird to sing along to live because of that
Cherry Wine
A disturbingly well-adjusted breakup song
All Things End
That random EDM song he did a couple years ago that's actually really good??
Tell It To My Heart

Dozens of Palestinian Authority diplomats around the world celebrated the Oct. 7 massacres, according to a new study. The revelations have important implications for anybody concerned about the prospects for Middle East peace.
The study was undertaken by GnasherJew, a group of British Jewish investigative journalists, and reported by The Jewish Chronicle based in London. GnasherJew is best known for exposing the antisemitic remarks made by Jeremy Corbyn, the former leader of Britain’s Labour Party.

While the U.S. State Department, The New York Times, and J Street keep telling us that the P.A. opposes terrorism and wants to live in peace next to Israel, the statements made by the P.A.’s own representatives around the world say otherwise.
The investigators reviewed hundreds of social-media posts by more than 30 senior P.A. diplomats in the days following Oct. 7. Here’s a sampling of what these P.A. officials wrote about the most horrific mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust:
• Great Britain: Rana Abuayyash, consul at the P.A.’s mission to London, posted an image of an Israeli flag morphing into Adolf Hitler.
• France: Hala Abou-Hassira, the P.A. ambassador to Paris posted: “Israel bears full responsibility.” His colleague Nadine Abualheija tweeted: “A colonial state is not an innocent victim when its victims resist genocide.” Another P.A. diplomat in Paris, Jamila Hassan Eragat, wrote: “Don’t judge a group of people for rising up against their oppressors … violence is necessary for decolonisation.”
• Spain: Khaldun Almassri of the P.A. mission in Spain shared a painting of people dancing with flags of the Palestinian Liberation Organization on Oct. 7.
• Cyprus: “Palestinians broke through with so much excitement,” the official Facebook account for the P.A. embassy in Cyprus announced.
• Mozambique: The P.A. ambassador in Mozambique, Fayez Abduljawad, posted a graphic that read: “If you are silent when Israel kills Palestinians, remain silent when Palestinians defend themselves.”
• Guinea: Thaer Abubaker, the P.A. ambassador to Guinea and Sierra Leone, wrote on X (Twitter) that the Oct. 7 slaughter was “heroic” and that “liberation is the goal of every fighter who risks their life for the sake of freedom and jihad for God’s path.” He also accused America’s secretary of state of being “a Khazar Jew” and charged Jewish immigrants to Israel with bringing “scabies and contagious diseases to Palestine.”
• Zimbabwe: Manar Alagha, a P.A. diplomat in Zimbabwe, posted a video on Facebook of Israelis fleeing the Nova music festival concert grounds, adding the slogan: “Here to victory!”
• Ivory Coast: An official at the P.A.’s embassy in the Ivory Coast, Khattab Bayyari, showed a graphic of a terrorist paraglider and added the caption: “You are the soldiers of Allah in the field.” He also posted a photo of a man with a sign displaying an anti-Israel vulgarity.
• Japan and South Korea: The P.A.’s ambassador to Japan and South Korea, Waleed Siam, wrote on X/Twitter: “Zionism is really curse on all humanity,” and added, for good measure, that Israelis “have yet to find proof of their imaginary temple.” (Asked by the Jewish Chronicle about those messages, Siam replied: “I have Semitic origins myself.”)
• Turkey: The P.A.’s consul general in Istanbul, Hana Abu Ramadan, circulated a hate cartoon depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a devil with horns.
• United Nations: Khuloussi Bsaiso, a P.A. diplomat at the United Nations, distributed a Middle East map without Israel that had the slogan, “Palestine as it should be.”
• European Union: Hassan Albalawi, the deputy head of the P.A. mission to the European Union, called the Hamas massacres “heroic.” Adel Atieh, the P.A. ambassador to the European Union, hailed the terrorists as “the people of the mighty,” who are fighting for “freedom and breaking tyranny.” Another P.A. diplomat at the European Union, Lema Nazeeh, wrote on X that the Hamas invasion was “decolonisation in tangible terms,” a day of “dignity and triumph.”
And because no review of Palestinian Arab antisemitism is complete without a dose of old-fashioned religious bigotry, it’s worth noting that Salman El Herfi, the former P.A. ambassador to South Africa and France, who is now a top adviser to P.A. chief Mahmoud Abbas, posted a medieval Christian image next to a photo of a mother and child in Gaza with the caption: “The pain of the Mother is the same as it was 2,000 years ago. The same killer.”
The P.A.’s diplomats around the world are the “best face” of the Palestinian Arab cause. They are the P.A.’s most articulate and urbane spokespeople. They wear suits and ties; they speak the best English. One would imagine they would be the most concerned about appearing “moderate” in the eyes of the wider world.
Yet here they are—the P.A.’s most sophisticated officials—openly celebrating the mass murder, gang rapes and baby-burnings of Oct. 7. That tells you all you need to know about their alleged interest in peace with Israel.

no cause the hate chappell roan is getting is actually pissing me the fuck off. people got so upset at her for setting boundaries and going off on fans who disrespect her private time and make her uncomfortable and for what? just because being harassed is “normal” when you’re famous doesn’t mean it can’t bother her? have you ever for like one second thought that maybe things should change and famous people can start receiving the respect and privacy they deserve? people purposefully misconstrue her words and/or don’t listen to watch she’s actually saying. this whole situation with her not wanting to endorse kamala harris as if that immediately makes her a republican. are y’all dense on purpose or just…actually that stupid? where are the critical thinking skills. where are the listening skills. endorsing and voting are two different things, and she IS voting for harris, she just says it’s important to be critical of both parties (IT IS! EVERY POLITICIAN AT THAT MATTER) and the democrats have done shit that isn’t great either. cause they fucking haven’t (giving money to a “country” aka actively helping it commit genocide + also passing a bill that names any critique of said “country” antisemitic). nothing is black and white in politics, many things can be true at the same time and there needs to be room for nuance!!!!!!! chappell said nothing wrong but people still wanna be pissed at her.
if what she said makes you so angry i have no clue how you plan on ANY change whatsoever taking place in the states. decolonisation and dismantling systems that hurt minorities happens from the ground up TOO and one vote of yours in a presidential election isn’t gonna change everything overnight. it’s the START, the step in the right direction. the work doesn’t end there though and half of democrats (cough cough white people cough cough) are not comfortable enough with disruption to do that work. anyways.
& after she cancelled her shows somewhere people are attacking her personally. nothing wrong with being upset about not being able to see her, that’s completely valid, but people need to stop acting like she’s taking a break for no reason. she has severe depression + is constantly under scrutiny, of course she’s gonna need a breather.
and now people are comparing her to taylor swift and saying how taylor is soooo much better than her cause she’s endorsing kamala…she’s friends with a trump supporter you fucking morons and she hasn’t ONCE raised her extremely loud voice about palestine (a feminist issue, too btw!) and other issues. i’ll NEVER forget how she toured certain states and said NOTHING about the bans against drag queens and the violence against trans people. but oh right she’s supposed to be an ally. but i guess the yntcd music video was enough? and people wanna say she’s doing more than chappell roan like actually stop speaking or im gonna set the whole world on fire.
anyways whatever chappell roan they could never ever make me hate you

Something very frustrating about the whole i/p is how people view this place
The MENA is the only place in the WORLD where ppl try to rewrite its history and force indigenous-ity over its colonizers just bc the colonizers aren't "white European". instead of accepting the place was colonized and moving on and try to learn the native cultures and stuff
The brits know they colonized america and a big part of the world
The germans know they caused the holocaust
The mongols know about chinggis khan horrible rein and the massacre of millions
The american know they are not natives to america
We all know about the greek, roman and ottoman empire were conquering and colonizing land
So why can't arabs accept that they are also colonizers? Its ok, every nationality did horrible shit throughout history but instead of accepting it they just force themselves into nativity- ofc with time they mingled with the natives and most of them are mixed- but it doesn't cancel anything. Now the west and practically the whole world CHOSES to ignore history. As if the fact that you are not light skinned/white/european means that you can NEVER oppress or do something horrible.
Altho arabic is fund by different native languages it still originated in arabia peninsula(saudi arabia) just like islam and the arab identity. But bc it happened almost 1500 years ago and sound so far in the past people just choose to ignore it and in the end, with the israel-palestine conflict it hurts jews and our history bc no arabic is not indigenous. Its not nablus, its sh'hem and was called that name even BEFORE abraham was even born. Even islam isn't indigenous the canaan- Christianity and judaism are.
Im not shaming or anything but self awareness is important.
Bc we all from the same area then ofc there will be A LOT of similarity with the clothes, food, music etc just like there are a lot of similarities between Japanese and chinese culture altho they all are different its just NORMAL. The problem is that bc jews were colonized so much, everyone destroyed everything we have, bc of the diaspora jews gathered the cultures they grew up in from different countries and brought it with them to israel that's why "israeli culture" is made of a lot of different cultures worldwide, not bc "they stole it"
Israel is the ONLY place in the world that got successfully decolonised and rebuild and the world has never been angrier about that. Just mind blowing
#israel#jews#Palestine#arabic#ישראל#MENA#middle east#History#Culture#Colonization#Decolonization#Roman empire#America#ישראבלר#Hebrew#Native#jews are indigenous#Arabs aren't indigenous to israel#Just accept it#Its not the end of the world#sheesh#antisemism#antizionism is antisemitism#Islam#Judaism#am israel hai#jumbler#from the river to the sea yall can suck my d#gaza#jewish
