🍃 The Sword of the Spiral ⚔️

(oc ramblings in read more)

Soooo I feel weird doing this since I'm not used to rambling about my ocs, but since the images in the dueling circle imply this is a wiz oc lore heavy piece I'm gonna ramble a bit... I wanna talk more about my ocs anyway so this is good practice for me hsfdkldasf anyway

I tried to loosely tie in the slot with the image in the circles, but that wasn't always the case, or it's a stretch at best lol ANYWAY

☀️: In the sun slot we have the young, but not yet, wizard, and she is, well, incredibly young. This from when she (Alexandria Unicornriver) was still on Earth. The image is of a polaroid photo capturing Alex's first win at a local fencing competition. Her dad fences, and so Alex was familiar with fencing at a young age and when she was old enough to try she was super eager to get into it.

Due to size limitations, I didn't commit to showing other stuff in the scrapbook, like her participating in choir, (fun fact: her papa is a music teacher) and a few other school/family events, but the thought crossed my mind. Her parents kept a scrapbook and intended to update it her entire life, but one day Alex disappeared, and so less than a year after this image there are no further updates... But even now, though Alex doesn't know it, her parents still regularly look at the scrapbook, missing her and hoping she's still alive :') On the other side, you have Alex, who, while she doesn't talk about her past before Ravenwood super often, still loves her parents, and uses her love for music, as well as keeping up with fencing/(eventually) strictly using sword-wands, as a way to hold onto them, since she believes she will never see them again :')

👁️: So here Alex's eyes are opened up to the world of magic! Not as much to say here, but she is a life wizard, hence the pixie. She's nervous, but also as a young kid she's kinda excited. Ofc if we wanna add a touch of angst, she's gonna regret some of this in hindsight since she becomes, secretly, incredibly homesick. In general, home is one of Alex's major themes/issues, but for now this is the last time where that is relevant in regards to the moments of history on display in this piece

⭐: So this is one of Alex and Monica's (my other main wiz oc, though she is not The Young Wizard) early interactions, and is one of the important turning points, with this one being more critical for Alex than Monica.

For context, since in the lore the dual school thing seemed kind of important, primary and secondary school's play an important part in my OC's lore. For Alex, she's a secondary death school student, so she shares a couple of classes with primary death school students like Monica. There is a bit of a one-sided rivalry at this point, as Monica, a magical prodigy herself, is really bothered by the fact that Alex is one of the top death students in their age group, despite being a primary life student. In general Monica is a haughty brat but since there's that one-sided rivalry thing going on Alex gets to see a lot of it since Monica likes to but into as much of the events as she can to show off (while simultaneously refusing to work with Alex).

Alex doesn't mind her, as she kind of appreciates the... openness, I suppose, of her feelings, esp since the hostility feels more rooted in skill (and Monica's general demeanor) rather than because there's something wrong with Alex's origin or oddities. While Alex is kind of being swept up by all the events of Arc 1, in the background she is noticing that she is subtlety being othered, between being Ambrose's favorite (child soldier), being from Earth which is not even in the Spiral, and she's a life/death student, which is incredibly rare in my headcanon (similarly, storm/myth and ice/fire primary/secondaries are incredibly rare; they're all not only considered unusual, but powerful and dangerous). She's maintaining some sort of optimism, but it's slowly becoming more mask than sincere.

Anyway, this is the first time where Alex is really able to get through to Monica and cooperate together, even if it starts kind of separately, since this is before Big Ben, where they need reach the top of the east/west towers, but they will still climb Big Ben together. Alex sees it as a sign of them finally becoming friends, tho Monica does not see it the same way and won't for a while. Considering the main ship for these two is, well, the two of them (Alex/Monica), their relationship development milestones are important for what I presume are now obvious reasons. A couple more of these milestones will probably get covered if I get around to doing this for Monica, or if by some miracle I finally learn how to talk about my OCs without feeling the need to have some sort of excuse hjdfljkashdfas

🌙: So major timeskip between the previous image and this one. This is after arc 1, but still quite a bit of time before arc 2 starts. She's growing up, and a lot of the events that have happened in arc 1 are haunting her. While she believes she made the right choices, considering she's still relatively young here, it's kind of impossible to not be haunted by all the horrific things she's done/witnessed up until this point, such as killing multiple people.

It was important to me that this image was sort of showing that idea of the young wizard was getting to be known to others as a hero (untainted) versus her internal image of herself slowly turning into a monster (tainted). This was one of the hardest sections to settle on a concept for, since while I had quite a few ideas, my space here was incredibly limited so I needed something with smaller scope. I was also trying to see if I could include Malistaire in some way in one of the images, and eventually those two things got me to this part here. And this isn't even going into the fact that at this point she's getting homesick and has learned no one knows how to send her back home to Earth. So. :)

🗡️: Another massive timeskip, but I knew as soon as I conceptualized this idea that Azteca's doom had to be included. I had a different concept for this section initially, still Azteca focused but leaning more into how haunted she is by what happened, but iirc I was struggling a bit with the execution so I ended up straying from that direction. I don't think there's much more to expand on rn since I presume most of the young wizard's are haunted by Azteca, and she is no different... doesn't change the fact that I may expand on it more another time xD

🔑: This one falls in the same camp as the moon in that I knew what I wanted but not sure how to show it with the limited space, so this one went through a lot of iterations. I originally wanted to showcase more Morganthe, but again, space limitations. I settled on having Morganthe more in the back, with Alex using shadow magic, and I suppose it's implied that's one of the threads connecting them. While the short term consequences of learning shadow magic aren't so bad for Alex, there's a lot of long term stuff that comes up (some of which is seen in canon). It's one of the contributing factors to Alex feeling more and more like a monster (and slowly letting herself embrace it)

💎: This moment's sweet and simple :) Alex and Monica graduate from Ravenwood! They're dating by this point, and it is hopefully implied they are holding hands. I wanted to include the graduation piece since this is kind of an expanded version of the "growing up" piece which I did a few years ago, and it featured fresh wizard Alex (eye), arc 2 Alex, and graduating wizard Alex. I'd say there's no background angst here but that's a lie, there's always background angst with Alex shjfdljkadshfads Look I mayyyyy enjoy characters who smile lots but are repressing a lot of their problems and Alex is no exception do not be fooled by the amount of times she is smiling in this image :)

🌀: The last slot is Alex's scion trial! I don't actually have a lot to say about this part ksdjfkldasfa I do know I kind of reconceptualized the area leading into it, tho, partially cause I was to lazy to find a reference and partially because iirc there was only one color of flames in the trial space and I disagreed with that lmao I think I was just hoping the hair in her hand implies that it's related to a ritual of some kind... I have notes on it, but rn I can't recall if locks of hair for the ritual is canon or not. Regardless, I used that as an excuse to lead into Alex getting a new outfit/hairstyle, which is featured in the center.

Through arc 3 and a good chunk of arc 4, she switches from the katana to a sword/shield combo, then switches to the aeon sword mid to late Novus.

While it would've been nice to include some arc 3/4 stuff, there wasn't room... and it helped that it felt fitting to have Alex entering the scion trial as the last space, with the image at large being her "scion" attire.

I actually coloured it! I used the reference colours for Sueño and sort of made the assumption that his hair was glowing. Bonus if you know what the other light source is

I tried to make Sueño as scared as possible, after all this is the third human he’s met, and the first two Mother Gothel’d him bad. He is terrified that she might do something to him. I just love brutally traumatized boys 😇

For Asha, I tried to make her expression more surprised and shocked than afraid. After all, she’s the servant to Magnifico and Amaya, and I’m sure she’s seen magic around. Plus… this weird, glowing young man was kind of cute. There’s no coloured sheet of her Act I outfit but I tried my best based off of the royal couple’s colours

My workplace is having a late Christmas party and it's dress up and with like 4 days left to go I decided to go as knight gudetama

The kids all getting scattered when they arrived into the dsmp so C!Dream is rushing to collect them all and bring them to the arctic by following the pings of unknown player around the world

(P!Dream loves going to get the kids. C!Dream runs so so so fast he feels like he's flying when he carries him on his back and then they have a cool super hero moment when they find whoever they were hunting for :D)

He gets most of them but since the kids spawned neat their counterparts the rest of the server arranges a quick emergency meeting at the community house to figure out wtf and also where the rest of the kids they didn't find are

(C!Dream goes and takes only P!Dream because he refuses to stay behind but also makes a very good point that the other kids will trust C!Dream a lot more if he's with him. P!Punz and P!Philza are left in change, much to the offense of C!Philza)

Anyway. C!Dream just standing ominously in the corner of the room with P!Dream hidden under his cape and all the kids do the typical "Ooohhhh! Ominous figure!! Cool!!!" And immediately want to talk to him, specially since he looks like P!Dream (extra happy surprise when P!Dream does peek out of the cape) and C!Dream seems to be the only adult who is not weirdly tense (conceal, dont feel, don't let them know /ref)

C!Tommy's great visible offense that little him think C!Dream is cooler

So like while c!Techno, c!Phil, p!Phil (16), p!Wilbur (13) and the other 13 and older kids (not fully decided on who) work on healing c!Dream while p!Dream keeps are eye on everyone else in c!Philza's house in the meantime. p!Tommy, p!Quackity, and p!Sapnap get bored playing hide and seek in the old man's house and start suggesting they go out and explore. They are so excited about the snow and what the Big Innit Hotel, Kinoko kingdom and Las Nevadas look like. p!Dream says no and that it's a bad idea, with p!Sam listing out all the things that could go wrong and dangers. They seem to drop it but in the next round instead of hiding they sneak out while p!Dream is counting, bringing p!Karl and p!Tubbo with them and p!Ranboo joins last minute too, not wanting to be left out, pulling p!Techno along too. After p!Dream has officially searched everywhere (the kids do not have a way to see the achievements going off), he determines that they must have run off anyways. On one hand he wants to go after them, p!Sam even offers to watch them, but on the other he needs to watch the kids who stayed, who beg him to stay because they are scared (mostly the little ones). Some of them feel annoyed that the others are having all the fun and sneak out when p!Dream isn't looking.

Scared to disturb, anger or annoy the adults while they are upset and doing secret things or whatever, p!Dream doesn't inform them that he lost half of the kids. He just tries to keep everyone left safe and entertained, resigned to the fact that when the adults do find out, he's in for it. p!Punz and p!Sam try to convince p!Dream that he won't be alone and they'll be his shield if they need to, p!Dream smiles but insists that it's his fault and makes them pinky promise to hide and keep the others safe.

When the adults finally let them back in the cabin to meet c!Dream and they find out about the missing kids, c!Dream is immediately outraged - "Wait, What?! You left a bunch of kids alone in the cabin with no one watching them?! What the hell is wrong with you?!" - but to p!Dream's utmost surprise it's not directed at him but at c!Techno and c!Phil, who clench their jaws and swallow their excuse of - 'you were kinda bleeding out, it was all hands on deck. We didn't have time to find a proper babysitter. Sorry for saving your life I guess...'

After getting filled in on the kiddo situation, c!Dream imediately gears up to go after the kids, to c!Phil and c!Techno's dismay, who highlight that c!Dream is enemy number one and everyone is currently trying to kill him. p!Sam points out that everyone trusts p!Dream so he should be the one to go, to which the adults are like well not on your own. p!Dream, a little scared of c!Techno and c!Phil, insists that he'll only go with c!Dream. c!Dream smirks at the kid in approval and tells c!Techno and c!Phil to call a meeting at the community house to inform the others on the kids situation, (especially since as they pointed out, no one's gonna listen to c!Dream they'll just show up to kill him) specifically the missing kids. (c!Dream's not saying the members are gonna stab the kids running around but.... he also wouldn't put it past them. Better safe than sorry and maybe some of them already know where the kids are).

Things follow as you said - p!Dream has his superhero moment, and they find a fair amount of kids before the meeting. p!Punz at first insists on going with the Dreams to search but p!Dream insists he needs someone he trusts to watch over everyone while he's gone, so he stays with p!Phil to watch over them, while everyone is gone p!Wilbur of course starts a snowball fight and all the kids safe in the artic break out into a cold and snowy war. p!Sam makes all that come inside after hot chocolate to warm them up. :)

The found kids end up brought to the meeting for safe keeping when everyone requests c!Dream show up to give them answers instead of getting everyone back to the cabin. The kids brought by some of the other members, who found them wandering around, love ominous c!Dream standing in the corner with his side kick under his cape lol. ;) Members like c!Puffy are kinda hurt that the kids don't gravitate towards her. c!Tommy brings in little p!Tubbo he found lost on the prime path somehow separated from the others, and upon seeing c!Dream in the room, he tries to insist that p!Tubbo stand behind him and that he'll protect him, but to c!Tommy's utter horror and offense, immediately p!Tubbo runs and hugs c!Dream, using the cape to dry his tears...

I’m was watching a podcast interview with Henry Selick and he got asked if there would ever be a sequel to TNBC and he said that he has a idea. He wants to do five minutes short Jack, Sally married through the perspective of Zero. I don’t know what we have to do but we got to make this happen.

I know Henry Selick said last year that a TNBC Prequel would be more interesting to do than a Sequel (a sentiment I share 100%), but it's cool to know that he's still considering ideas for a continuation. I assume he was talking in regards to a TV/Disney+ short? Zero's perspective would be fun to see, since you can spot little details his way in the movie. He got his own comic book sequel, so I can't say it's something that hasn't been done before, but I'd love to see more love Zero's way and a glimpse into Jack & Sally's married life!

Luckily, we're still getting a sequel to Long Live the Pumpkin Queen which will likely explore Jack & Sally's marriage, and hopefully show more spotlight on Zero. I would think for Henry Selick's sequel idea here to come to fruition, he'd have to get Tim Burton + his team and Disney onboard with the idea.

06/29/2025 THWWICH Progress Update:

TLDR: Another 3K edited. First section is finished at 4K and started second.

Got a lot of stuff to do before bed so doing this progress update now. We’re done with the first section and moving onto the second (which is long as fuck lmaoo it’s the majority of this chapter.)

Went back over parts of the draft and tweaked a couple things. I realized I maybe didn’t give enough weight to what Shu and Ko are feeling about the phantom thief/detective SK before so I fleshed out their individual thoughts about it a bit more. Part of the intention of this chapter is they’re distracting themselves from what happened but I didn’t want to just completely dismiss it, I guess.

oh yeah by the way given the subject matter the past few releases i've made myself a little lore document to keep track of all the elemental people (avatars, great dragons, titans, champions, and envoys) because i wanted to keep my facts straight

like we know what cryozen, the dragon of ice, looks like, and the fact that they (yes, they; diversity win this enormous fuck you dragon uses they/them pronouns) had a dragonlord at one point named vilmor (i'm assuming she/her? her face item is referred to as a "visage" which is the fem version of the "morph" items, but there is no masc "morph").

the great dragon of darkness is named dekanor. nobody knows what dekanor looks like, but the legion has made weapons depicting what they think dekanor looks like anyway.

by process of elimination i've surmised that the great dragon of light is prismagon and the great dragon of air is levidon because those names are not subtle.

the element we know the most about is fire, having seen two avatars, its titan, killed its dragon, befriended its champion long ago, and knowing its temporary envoy.

Funniest bit I've done oc-wise lately is writing drabbles for myself of Ichor shipped with either Nightmare or Reaper.
