My Hot Take for the Day
After the James Somerton situation, the SWOOP exposes Johnny Silvestri in the Colleen Ballinger situation, and other videos where youtubers do serious investigative work, I feel like some of these youtubers should be recognized for their efforts.
SWOOP has already been on multiple news outlits for her youtube videos, why don't we give these people more recognition?
I can already name some people that should, I don't know, get an award for investigative journalism or something
Coffeezilla (Specifically regarding his SBF & Save The Kids Crypto scam series)
SWOOP (The Colleen Ballinger series, specifically)
Hbomberguy (For the Plagiarism, Roblox, vaccines, and climate change videos specifically)
Philosophy Tube (specifically for the vaccine video, that was an awesome study)
FriendlyJordies (Got his house fire bombed when he investigated Australia's government & many more people & organizations)
This is a starting list, but please, feel free to add to the list, we need to give these people more recognition!
I don't know the best way to formally recognize youtubers for investigative journalism, but I do know these are some people you should take seriously. Their work is unmatched.

Google Forms used by scammers for tech support crypto scams
🎣 Remember, the technical support of UniSwap, PancakeSwap Balancer, Metamask, TrustWallet, CoinBase, Kraken and so on will never give you a Google form link to fill out! 🛑 Never fill out anything in google forms, no matter what is the fake reason. 💸 Filling out data via google forms is a guaranteed way to get immediately robbed blind.
🏦 Never reveal nor enter your seed phrase (or wallet JSON) anywhere!
But some end users get desperate, are scared, insecure, inexperienced or plain old gullible and naïve, conveniently falling for the same scams that have been floating around since the ICO craze of 2017. Meanwhile E Mask allowed anyone to buy a blue tick on twatter, so this type of scam is more successful than ever, gee thanks. 6 years later, literally the same scam from 2017 is still pocketing ill gotten gains to cybercriminals.

Oh, hey, by the way, if you're one of these crypto-bros?
What I wish upon you is an agony so Lovecraftian that adequately describing the methods by which I would inflict it upon you would have National Security outside my door within the hour.
Tumblr media
You subhuman fucking mongrels are so dogshit at making money or getting anyone worthwhile to listen to you that you have to steal other people's channels in the hopes of at least TRICKING a handful of retards into buying into your scam.
You were a mistake. You. Personally. Each single one of you individually.
Your mothers would have done more good for the world with the protein boost they would have gotten by swallowing you.
No misfortune you suffer would ever be unjustified.
Cease being.

I feel real sorry for everyone who grew up watching Boogie2988
I've never seen someone destroy their own career so completely-even TheCompletionist wasn't this egregious, since at least he started trying to "fix" things once Coffeezilla and Karl Jobst caught him. Boogie tried a different strategy, where he screamed at Coffee over the phone, changed his story five times, then tried to lie and say he was tricked despite having agreed to it being recorded. I mean, come on-in what world does one of the oldest social media personalities(in more ways than one) not know that DM's are forever?

AI is a tool designed to normalise false information and increase distrust in experts.
It was created by *checks notes* tech companies who profit from reduction in critical thinking skills.The same people who brought us;
Crypto, the worlds first truely independent currency! Belovd by scam artists and criminals the world over. Zero practical use outside those areas.
Metaverse, an independent free market virtual world where you can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a digital object that doesn't exist and has the graphical definition of a minecraft tree!
NFTS, a true revolution in art and art ownership where you can invest thousands in an ugly digital blob that has no real world value whatsoever, except you aren't actually paying for the picture you thought you just bought, you're paying for a data entry which may or may not direct to the picture you just thought you bought.
Dear gods, this is the worst timeline.
Here have some youtube links if you want more info.

I'm investigating a scam.
I have been put into these massive WhatsApp group chats ~200 - 500 members. There are a few group admins, the country codes include +1(US), +44(UK), +7(RU/KZ). The majority of the people included in the group have +1 country code.
These chats are named something along the lines of "AI Automation wealth train". Generally the admins only allow admins to message the group. The chat also has these "bots". They personify a public figure related to finance. These "bots" are not admins, so periodically all members are allowed to comment. I've checked the messages to see if they were created by an AI like ChatGPT and etc., it seems like they were not.
I'm still trying to figure out how exactly these bots work. I noticed that at least one had a WhatsApp business account. It seems like the messaging is automated.
The messages are emoji filled, but seems to be "garbage". They want us to buy gold, silver and crypto. The messages tell us to buy crypto, one explicitly said etherium. They haven't posted an exchange or anything to use. I'm waiting for the scam angle (aside from the possible pump n' dump).
If you have been added to any chats like this and want to help me out, feel free to comment below or DM me.

Scam Alert!
I shouldn’t have to mention that in addition to porn bots (I’ve blocked 50 this month), be on the lookout for people DMing you trying to offer you get-rich opportunities on bitcoin.
I was contacted by @teenagethingnerd, a scammer here on Tumblr. From my interactions with them, here is what I learned about the modus operandi for these people.
They will first try to be polite and get to know you over a 3-week period, then they will start using “screenshots” of emails where they claim to make thousands of dollars. They will ask for your financial information, promising you money.
Any skepticism you offer, they will mock and/or get angry at. That’s important, because a scammer’s worst enemy is always skepticism, and the people who hate skeptics are typically the people trying to trick you on something.
Use google search to check the validity of the websites they claim to use in their emails, and challenge them on their “Friends” that they speak of. Typically these websites will be 1-3 months old and have no verification to them.
Confronting them with these approaches will allow you to confirm your skepticism of their snake-oil sales.
Please stay alert! And DO NOT give out your financial or personal info to anyone! This may not be twitter, but there’s still plenty of bad and toxic people on it!

Twitter verified means nothing now when anyone can buy it
Just an example how "verified" means nothing and Twitter does nothing to protect from scammers, on the contrary. The "verified" status fuels scams at the moment.

Navigating the Maze of Crypto Scams: Effective Strategies for Prevention and Recovery
Tumblr media
Introduction: The Rising Threat of Cryptocurrency Scams
As cryptocurrencies gain widespread acceptance, the lure of quick profits has not only attracted investors but also cybercriminals, leading to a surge in crypto-related scams. Protecting your digital assets against these threats requires a proactive approach, encompassing awareness, prevention, and recovery strategies.
Understanding Crypto Scams: The Basics
Identifying Common Types of Cryptocurrency Scams
Cryptocurrency scams can take various forms, each designed to part unsuspecting victims from their digital assets. Some prevalent types include:
Investment Scams: These scams promise extraordinary returns through crypto investments and are often structured like traditional Ponzi schemes.
Exchange Scams: Victims are tricked into using fake cryptocurrency exchanges, which may disappear overnight.
Wallet Scams: Scammers create fake wallets to steal user credentials and drain their holdings.
ICO Scams: Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) that are fraudulent, where the crypto token is either non-existent or the ICO itself is based on false promises.
Red Flags and Warning Signs
The key to avoiding cryptocurrency scams is recognizing warning signs, such as:
Promises of guaranteed high returns with little risk.
Anonymous teams or unverifiable developer identities.
Pressure to invest quickly or offers that seem too good to be true.
Techniques for Investigating Crypto Scams
Unraveling crypto scams requires a blend of technical expertise and investigative rigor. Effective techniques include:
Blockchain Analysis: Tools and software are used to analyze transactions and track the flow of stolen funds across the blockchain.
IP Address Tracking: Identifying the IP addresses associated with fraudulent activities can help pinpoint the scammer’s location.
Collaboration with Regulatory Bodies: Working with cryptocurrency exchanges and regulatory authorities can help in freezing fraudulent accounts.
Strategies for Recovering Lost Cryptocurrencies
Losing cryptocurrency to a scam can be devastating, but there are ways to attempt recovery:
Act Quickly: Immediate action can increase the chances of recovering stolen assets.
Crypto Recovery Services: Specialized services can assist in tracing lost or stolen cryptocurrencies and negotiating their return.
Legal Recourse: In some cases, legal intervention might be required to recover large sums.
Preventative Measures to Secure Your Assets
Implementing robust security measures is crucial in safeguarding your cryptocurrencies:
Utilize two-factor authentication (2FA) for all transactions.
Store large amounts of cryptocurrency in cold storage solutions.
Educate yourself continually about new types of scams in the crypto space.
Conclusion: Staying One Step Ahead of Crypto Scammers
As the crypto market continues to evolve, so too do the tactics of scammers. Staying informed, vigilant, and proactive is your best defense against these digital threats. For victims of crypto fraud, recovery may be challenging but not impossible, with the right guidance and support.
