Chapter 2: Murder on the Dance Floor

Summary:

Lan Wangji is faced with the crow who has been harrassing him, but something seems to be off.

Madam Lan must come to terms with her own identity as a spirit.

Crow!Xian except it's a modern cultivation au where Wei Wuxian is cursed to be a crow and he spends it hanging out on Lan Wangji's balcony cawing and shouting to get his attention and save him.

lwj just trying to enjoy his morning tea on the balcony and crow!wwx screeching at him and so lwj gives him one of his biscuits and crow!wwx just looks into the camera like this wasn't what i wanted but i mean i will take it i guess and eats the biscuits happily as lwj just watches him.

he sneaks in one day because crow!wwx is smart enough to figure out how to open a sliding door and uses paint to paint the entire room and write I AM WEI YING but crows don't have the best hand eye coordination so when lwj sees it he's just like "pretty drawing crow friend" with a polite head pat that makes crow!wwx screech but also he likes it

lwj eventually figures it out when crow!wwx caws the notes to wangxian and even in the horrible screechy noise thats still somehow in tune, lwj recognizes immeadiately and is like "that crow is my wei ying."

he tries true love's kiss and like gives him a peck on the beak but it's doesn't work and crow!wwx is all huffy because his first kiss with lwj is as a crow and isnt that unfair.

(eventually they figure out the array and get him back to normal and have lots of make up kisses but every once in a while when wwx burps it comes out like a crow's caw and he jumps. lwj thinks it's cute and gives him more biscuits and kisses)

It is absolutely useless to point out to me that my favorite characters went insane and perhaps slightly evil, especially when they were the ones wronged first. I support them and think they could have been more insane, actually. I think they should have just started attacking people on sight. They should have gone off the walls completely. They should have made all their decisions based off of grief and fear for far longer! I support rights and wrongs indiscriminately. I think forgive and forget should only come after they've worked through their hurt in the most destructive way possible and traumatized everyone back. Pls never assume otherwise

Yet, he is drawn to the dark colours and soft edges, the polar opposite of Gusu Lan with its hard edges and white and blue palette. He is drawn to the man behind the legends, and how he had so many facets of himself.

Yes, the Yiling Laozu is human. He is a human pretending to be a monster, and Lan Wangji would strike anyone down if they claimed Wei Wuxian was anything but completely, absolutely human.

Even if his memories say otherwise.

Hades/Persephone Wangxian AU Part II (ft. Crowxian)

Since Wither is now complete, I thought I'd share one of the scenes from WWX's POV that didn't make it into the final draft:

Wei Wuxian landed on the windowsill with pride in his heart and a puffed chest. He'd flown out at dawn that morning for an early hunt, hoping to find something worthy of wooing his future mate with. And he had! Preening, he dropped his wriggling bounty onto the wooden window frame, and cawed loudly as he could.

“Lan Zhan!”

Lan Wangji, who had been looking over one of the multitude of texts in the Lan library, looked up - then frowned upon seeing the mess the crow had made of the windowsill.

Placing the tome in his hands upon the table before him, he rose and drew closer to the excitable bird.

“Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan!”

Wei Wuxian nudged the worms forward with his beak, chattering reproachfully when Lan Wangji did little more than stare at them with barely disguised disdain. He knew his mate preferred to eat grass, but grass wasn’t healthy for developing eggs! And they would be having many, many eggs - he was sure of it!

Agitated, he cawed again, nudging the writhing pile of worms forward with greater insistence.

“Stop that.”

Wei Wuxian blinked up at Lan Wangji to find his pretty face set in a scowl. Confused, he cocked his head. Were the worms not meaty enough? He looked down at them with a shrewd eye. They looked as delicious to him as they had when he’d plucked them from the ground earlier - very fat and juicy.

Hesitantly, he glanced back up at Lan Wangji, clacking his beak in confusion. Lan Wangji eyed him inscrutably, but seemed to at last see sense, for he reached for the worm pile.

Pleased his mate had accepted his hunt, Wei Wuxian’s chest once more burst with pride, his breast feathers puffing out in a display of smugness-

-only to immediately deflate.

Lips curled in a grimace, Lan Wangji pushed the worms off the windowsill, so they dropped back into the garden below the ledge. Wei Wuxian blinked in shock, unable to believe his choice of mate could be so cruel!

Indignant, he rounded on Lan Wangji.

“Eat!” he cawed.

Wei Wuxian flapped his wings frantically, his little feet hopping from side to side with uncontained distress. If Lan Wangji had really disliked the worms so much, he didn’t need to push them from the sill! Wei Wuxian would eat them!

Chattering, he dove down into the garden, rescuing one of the worms from the twisted bundle they'd fallen into. He looked up to meet Lan Wangji’s gaze, mutinous, as he swallowed it whole.

"Eat!" He snapped his beak open, emitting a defiant croak.

In reply, Lan Wangji sighed. “Do not bring your food inside.”

His food-!

Wei Wuxian flapped his wings and jumped. How could he feed his mate if he wasn’t allowed to bring his hunt inside?! He didn't want him to starve!

Slumping to the ground, Wei Wuxian pecked at another worm before gobbling it up out of spite. Lan Wangji made courting very difficult.
