Rediscovery of the ‘Criminal Type’ "After 1975, many academics and other experts who had been the architects and major supporters of the nonpunitive, rehabilitative penal approaches drifted to the right. They moved right because of shifting government policies, particularly the change in the types of research that government agencies would fund, the loss of support in the general society for their liberal ideas, and their own shift in sympathies. They too, after all, were members of the newly affluent middle class and shared a diffuse sense of being victims. The send-off in the shift was James Q. Wilson’s widely read and enthusiastically accepted book, Thinking About Crime (1975), in which Wilson, a Harvard professor, went against the historical tide in criminology. He argued that America’s crime problem was caused by the unraveling of the country’s social fabric and the resulting development of an increasing number of persons with bad characters, many of whom become “habitual criminals,” who commit most of the serious crimes and should be incapacitated. “Wicked people exist. Nothing avails except to set them apart from innocent people.”
The dominant academic perspective on crime swung over to the law-and-order position. Wilson’s suggestion that “wicked” people commit most of the serious crime was an idea that was right down the conservative government’s alley and one it was willing to grant big bucks to prove right. A series of studies appeared that purported to demonstrate that a special type of criminal committed most serious crimes. Sarnoff Mednick, W. F. Gabrielli, and B. Hutchings reported their findings of a study of Danish twins raised apart.! They suggested that there was a genetic link in criminal behavior. Peter Greenwood of the Rand Corporation published a study that identified a category of robbers and burglars who were “high-rate” offenders and who had committed most of the crime of the cohort they studied. A large cadre of the leading criminologists entered the search for the “criminal type,” “career criminal,” and “high rate offender.” Then James Q. Wilson, with a fellow Harvard social scientist, Richard Herrnstein, published Crime and Human Nature, in which they claimed to have carefully reviewed all the important studies on crime causation and concluded that the evidence suggests that genes and early childhood experiences, rather than social and economic disadvantage or teenage peer culture, cause most crime.
These criminologists, many of whom occupied the most prestigious positions in leading universities and on government bodies, succeeded in supplying the government with a body of polished, academically sophisticated theories to support the government's new war on crime. These ideas focused attention on individuals who, because of bad genes or bad families, were deeply committed to criminal behavior."

Alt forms/ adult designs under the cut
So when he's littler he can be a Nissan atla, they're pretty cute, but reaching adulthood he'd be a Nissan big thumb, and getting a mod to have a trailer too.
Optimus only has a flat bed so Im doing the old reliable transformer design of putting stuff u don't know how to fit into the back. If he diddnt have a trailer, the bed sides could just be a part of his legs but he modded to have wings so he can get used to the weight distribution easier.

Big thumbs are 12 feet tall, G1 Optimus is a Freightliner making him also 12 feet, and G1 Ratchet is a Nissan cherry vanette, which are almost 6 feet (5"10 to be exact)
I thought that the big thumb would be a bit smaller then Optimus but damn, Ratchet is gonna have to deal with 2 giant trucks.

trying to choose a movie to watch: do I miss my pookie (Iron Man trilogy)? My baby girl (CA: Winter Soldier)? My wife (Black Widow)? Do I wanna watch a romance (X-Men: First Class)? A slice of life (Avengers: Age of Ultron)? Comfort film (Spider-Man: Homecoming or FFH)?

Criminal Minds S01E01 - a scene analysis/things I noticed
(The text in the images is the same, I just worried you can't read my handwriting)
Tumblr media
1. In the beginning scene where Gideon is asked to return to the BAU, the way the characters are positioned is representative of their power dynamic or role within the BAU at that point as well as representing the dilemma within the scene
- Reid is in the background since he is the youngest and least experienced, also the least in focus atp. He's also positioned in front of a map, which could be foreshadowing for his ample ability of geographical profiling
- Morgan is in front of Reid but still behind Hotch and Gideon
- At first, Gideon is positioned as the main focus with the camera showing him debating returning to the BAU for the first time since the Boston incident. As Hotch tells him that “the order came from the director” the camera focus switches as in the team “came back into focus” as Gideon realizes he has to come back.
- The camera then focuses on Hotch since he is the leader of the team. This shows that now that Gideons dilemma isn't the only thing in focus, the team has dynamics and roles which are also a large aspect of the show
Tumblr media
2. In this scene with the family of the unsub, although the family isn't centered they are very clearly the focus of attention due to the clear blue colour tint around them. This suggests the grief they are in after finding out their family member committed a crime. The family is surrounded by green tints as well, showing their grief is surrounded by the unsubs world (explanation in next observation)
- In the next scene if you look at the family portrait you will see that everyone in the family except the unsub is in blue, showing that the entire family was affected by his actions in their grief but also that he stands out from them.
- When Elle comes in from the left in the next frame, her red outfit is a contrast to the blue. She is from the outside world, an outsider to the family's grief.
Tumblr media
3. The general lighting in this scene shows an outside world (the warmer lights in the hallway) and the inside world of the unsub, with the darker green colors. In the frame pictured, the unsub is looking away from the outside world.
- Gideon is wearing red to contrast the green
- The family portrait shows how the unsub is an outsider with the rest of the family positioned in a tight triangle and him in the bottom right corner, also wearing different colors from the rest of the family
- The family photo is centered in this scene, showing a clear contrast between them surrounding the unsub versus him now being all alone
- The table in front of him is empty, showing he has no future in front of him. In a few seconds Gideon places his book in front of him, showing that the only future now is the BAUs work
- There is a chair facing backwards behind the unsub. This is like an interrogation, so the two chairs are for the two unsubs. But because the team doesn't know this yet, the chair faces away from Gideon, the interrogator.
Tumblr media
4. Following the train of thought about the colors, we can see that the car the unsub used to lure the women into is red. The contact with the outside world is red, and in the scene where we see him kidnap a victim we can see he is wearing a green jacket as he locks the girl in the red car, showing that she is being locked away by the inside world of the unsub.
Tumblr media
5. In this scene with Hotch interrogating the unsub, he is centered as he walks into the interrogation room to show his importance.
Tumblr media
6. In the scene at the very end of the episode, the unsub is once again shown in green lighting. His truck is shown in red, while Gideon is also in green. This shows how Gideon Has stepped into the inner world of the unsub, and is looking out on the outside world from within as he realizes who he's talking to.
Tumblr media
Colour contrast throughout the episode:

some additional doodles and a Lot of Headcanons... sorry if im spamming these a little bit. ive got so many thoughts in my head, lmao
theres my older pacifica- after weirdmageddon, her and gideon become friends. theyre both sort of ostracized from the town as a whole bc of their past attitudes/actions so they cling together and become buds. its nice having someone else who 'gets' it.
pacifica moved out as soon as she could to get away from her folks and has a job at a local mall. gideon enables her to enjoy at least SOME of her old luxuries by taking her shopping and to get their nails done together and stuff. also his prison buddies help ''kindly persuade'' her parents not to break her enforced no-contact rule from time to time. i know the two have the bitchiest gossip in the entire town together. sometimes when its hard to be 'nice' they know they can at least vent to the other and they wont get judged for it, yknow?
also some backstory doodles! he was a Normal Kid, Once. or close enough to it. gideon was a sickly child and was sheltered and homeschooled for most of his life. the gleefuls moved from texas to oregon when he was about seven (yes i know this breaks canon a little. its fine shh.) and he found journal 2 shortly after. things went downhill from there
other notes. he's always kept his hair long, but used to either let it down or tie it into a long braid. he very briefly attended a public school and he didnt fare very well there (fat kid + albino + 'girly' + general weird interests is basically painting a massive target on your back) he used to stay up and watch late night televangelists when he couldnt sleep in hospital and copped his aesthetic from there
sorry this post is so long i have a lot of thoughts about him </3

Imagine being Willis or Cathrine Todd, working for the 1% your whole life in order to create stability for your child while struggling yourself, only for said kid to be adopted by the 1% who influences YOUR child into wearing scaled shorts and fight crime at night while risking his life. And his said life later gets BRUTALLY taken by the actions of his new father, and in retaliation his new 1% father takes the clothes he died in, puts them up on display like it belongs in a museum, and uses his life as a cautionary tale.
