#Repost @val.beer.i North Park Beer • Triple Mosaic Robot Fighter . Just when you thought you conquered the robot, it’s returned and gotten even bigger! Triple Mosaic Robot Fighter is a bulked-up version of its two predecessors. Packed with an absurd amount of Mosaic T90, Mosaic Cryo, and Mosaic Incognito, this TDH Hazy TIPA is fully loaded and absolutely beastly. 10% abv . Nose is tropical. Taste is citrusy, juicy and hoppy with notes of grapefruit, papaya, guava, and blueberry. It’s easy to drink for this abv. It’s piney, bitter, with a dry finish, and it has a creamy mouthfeel. • Oh and I wish you a Happy New Year 2023, with all the best beers possible and lot of fun, love and health. 🎇 Cheers 🍻 . . . . . #northparkbeerco #triplemosaicrobotfighter #beer #beerporn #valbeeri #beerjunkie #beergeek #beerlover #beerlife #beerpics #beergasm #beerme #beerselfie #beerstagram #craftbeer #craftbeerlife #craftbeergirl #beerfluencer #craftbeerblog #showyourcans #craftbeerjunkie #craftbeerporn #craftbeerpics #craftbeerenthusiast #cheers https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm2YmY_v-BT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

As Christmas approaches, holiday parties and gift exchanges begin with family, friends, and coworkers. The craft beer community is no different. There are countless events taking place such as secret Santa beer exchanges; ‘tis the season.
Hop Culture created a nation wide secret Santa beer exchange. I sent out a nice package of Houston Craft beer to California for my assignment. The above photo is what we revived just in time for Christmas:
Liquid Mechanics - PB Porter
Paradox Beer Co - Salty Lemons 18’
Black Bottle Brewery - Count Chocula Cereal Milk Stout
Renegade Brewing - Pancakes Maple Porter
SKA Brewing - Pint Glass
Weldwerks Brewing - Pina Colada Milkshake, Galaxy DDH Juicy Bits (IPAs), and Chai Baltic Porter
This is an amazing way to showcase just how great the craft beer community is. It serves as an additional way to try beers that may be outside of your network or personal radar. (I’ve never tried any of these breweries beforehand, except Weldwerks.) And who knows if I’ll ever go back to Colorado again, but that’s another story. Thanks Hop Culture!
Tip: I saved our secret Santa’s address and will be sending them a package once the crazed holiday shipping is over; hey “Christmas in July” is a thing so why not January?

The second beer review here on The Ed Blog. The original plan was for every third or so post to be a beer review so I’ve fallen behind a little (as I do with some* things) but I have a few beer reviews stored up now so I’m ready to go. Anywho...
Some people may disagree with my 4.5 out of 5 rating because this and that but while you are disagreeing I’m just out here drinking the absolute dog shit out of these Stone Rippers. In fact, the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 out of 5 is because Stone beers are so fuggin’ expensive! Back in the day, the stoner surfer bros this beer was made for wouldn’t have been able to afford this beer but now those surfer bros are 50 year old tech dudes shopping at Whole Foods and trading their record players in for really, really nice record players. But hey, their taste in beer was good back when the rest of us were sneaking sips of our parent’s Corona Lites. And their taste in beer happens to be hoppy, citrus-forward APAs (or San Diego Pale Ale as the can says). Every time I drink one of these I think of how much I would hate a lot of the d-bags that I imagine form the general population of San Diego and then I remember how genuinely bitchin’ it would be to live in San Diego. This beer is perfect if you want to get into hoppy beers. A big layer of grapefruit and pineapple notes act as a buffer to the piney west coast hops (and Australian hops according to their website..) that usually turn people off to this style of beer. So go out there and drink some of this good ass beer! Drink it on a cold day thinking about the summer or drink it on a hot day to beat the heat. Way to go Stone!

What is a craft beer festival?
By Ng U-Sern and Mili Lim
Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes
The variations of a craft beer festival are only limited by imagination. While craft beer festivals work differently in different countries, with each being unique to the organisers’ vision and its fit with the local culture, there are some common features - the discovery of beers, innovation of craft beer festivals, and fostering community values. These features differentiate craft beer festivals from mere drinking fests.
1. DISCOVERY
Unlike mere drinking fests, it is common to find a wide variety of beers at craft beer festivals, where the option of taster glasses allow attendees to sample and discover different beers in small amounts. Other than providing a wide variety of beers, attendees may also discover unique and small batch beers.
An example of how craft beer festivals allow for the discovery of unique beers is the ‘Festival Of Wood And Barrel Aged Beers’ in Chicago where “art meets brewing, and wood meets beer”, and attendees get to experience some of the best aged beers in the market.
Another example can be seen in the ‘Oregon Brewers Festival’ which started in 1988 wherein a Specialty Tent is set up showcasing beers from “old favourites to new creations, experimental beers to those well off the beaten path”, most of which are very limited in quantity.
In Malaysia where it is illegal to brew craft beers, the focus of craft beer festivals would be more about importing these unique brews to introduce a variety of new brands and beer styles for the local beer community. For example, The Better Beer Festival 2016 in Malaysia brought in several beers which were new to the Malaysian market such as the jasmine ale from Pasteur Street Brewing Co., a Vietnamese brewery, and a sour ale from a UK brewery called Tempest Brewing Co.
Over and above discovering unique beers and brands, some craft beer festivals highlight ways to cook or pair beer with food. For example, “Savor: An American Craft Beer and Food Experience” is a festival where craft beer and food are thoughtfully paired to complement each other.
Whether they are different beers or food pairing possibilities, all these add to the character of craft beer festivals.
2. INNOVATION
Right off the bat, craft beer IS innovation, and this manifests itself in ways beyond just innovative brewing ideas.
An exemplary type of innovation at craft beer festivals is demonstrated by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) which organises the annual ‘Great British Beer Festival’ to raise awareness about the quality of ales and protect the interests of local beer businesses and pubs. It really is a craft beer festival with a cause.
Additionally, a look at the programmes at the ‘San Diego International Beer Festival’ reveals their interesting “Beer Off Flavours and Causes” segment. What is it? An interactive demo to learn how to spot what causes bad off-flavours in beer. As their website describes it, “You’ve had good beer now try some bad beer”.
Innovation in craft beer festivals can also be seen in Collabfest, organised by independent and internationally known beer brand, Brewdog from Scotland. Collabfest in 2016 involved 27 Brewdog bars in the UK, each working with a different independent brewery to brew a special collaborative beer. With craft beer festivals, it really is about experimentation and advancing the craft beer community.
3. COMMUNITY
There is a warm sense of community and shared purpose when craft beer drinkers gather at a festival where the organisers are truly dedicated to the craft beer movement. More than connecting with fellow beer drinkers, meeting the brewers and industry players, a craft beer festival is also about supporting the local community and economy in many different ways. This is compounded by the rise of beer tourism globally.
Craft beer festivals do support independent breweries, but it is more than that. A beer and food pairing at the festival? You’re supporting local food businesses. A live music lineup at the festival ? You’re supporting local musicians. Organising the festival in a mall? You’re supporting the outlets in the mall. The list goes on.
VARIATIONS OF A CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL ARE ONLY LIMITED BY IMAGINATION
Those who subscribe to the idea that craft beer festivals are only meant for getting drunk are missing out on what a real craft beer festival is about.
No two craft beer festivals are the same, but all craft beer festivals contribute to the growth of the craft beer movement, which is movement away from corporate macro-breweries, and towards independent microbreweries where beers are brewed with the passion and creativity of its brewers. This movement result in better beers and a global community of craft beer drinkers exploring and appreciating beer, its origins, brewing process, variety, and food-pairing possibilities.
So, what makes a craft beer festival? Making the discovery of beers accessible, coming up with innovation at craft beer festivals, fostering community values and, of course, bringing good fun to the people.

Craft Beer Thought 12-10-18
Just got back in from an impromptu meet up at The Hay Merchant. Was able to get a snifter of the Brash Milk The venom and also try The Peanvt Bvtter Wolf. Both were equally good, although a little high in price for the amount of beer I was served (In comparison to other craft bars). Although, the atmosphere was great and we were able to catch the game, so I can’t complain too much. I do wish there was a bit more on the selection (even though its a full page of selections... I need a little more haze lol), although another mention does go to the Firestone Walker Patrick Hayze!
Tomorrow we will be at Saint Arnold Brewing for the calendar release party for houston’s hottest brewers of ‘19, benefiting the CraftPAC. So if you are available feel free to come out and enjoy some drinks with us, Cheers!

Beers to drink in Malaysia based on 2018 beer trend predictions
By Ng U-Sern and Mili Lim
ESTIMATED READING TIME: 1 minute 30 seconds
New year, new beers?
With brewers and industry experts weighing in on possible beer trends for 2018, here are 4 types of beers to try based on these predictions.
Beer trend predictions 2018:
https://vinepair.com/articles/craft-beer-trends-2018/
https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2017/12/21/What-are-the-major-beer-trends-for-2018
1. SOUR BEERS
You either love ‘em or hate ‘em.
These beers get their refreshing tart, sour, and funky flavours from Brettanomyces (a type of yeast that metabolise into acetic acid), Lactobacillus (a bacteria that produces lactic acid), or Pediococcus (a bacteria that produces lactic acid).
Here are some sour beers to drink in Malaysia:
- Trolltunga Gooseberry Sour IPA (6.3% ABV)
Brewed by Buxton Brewery in collaboration with Lervig Brewery. A refreshing sour IPA with decent hop aroma.
- Blood Orange Gose (4.2% ABV)
Brewed by Anderson Valley Brewing Co. This gose is a citrusy, tart, and refreshing wheat ale brewed with sea salt and coriander, and a generous addition of blood oranges during fermentation.
- Santa gose F&#%! It All (4.0% ABV)
Brewed by To Øl. This is a tart and lemony beer with tropical fruit notes.
- Sur Mosaic Sour/Wild Ale (6.0% ABV)
Brewed by To Øl. ‘Sur’ is Danish for sour and Mosaic refers to the hop that this beer is brewed with. This is a fruity, tangerine-like pale ale with a acidic backbone.
Other To Øl ‘Sur’ beers include: Sur Blomst, Sur Motueka, and Sur Simcoe.
2. THE IPA FORCE IS STRONG. THE DOUBLE IPA FORCE IS STRONGER
The IPA or India Pale Ale has always been a frequent go-to beer, not only because of its hoppy goodness but also because of the wide range of different IPAs available in the market.
One of the more popular versions of how the IPA got its name goes back to the 19th century when beers were being sent to the British troops stationed in India when it was still a British colony. Owing to the long trip at sea, the beers would go bad. To counter this, brewers in England loaded their beers with hops, which acts as a natural preservative, thus creating the India Pale Ale.
Brewers and industry experts predict that the double IPA would gain popularity in 2018. A double IPA or an imperial IPA is basically an IPA on steroids - loaded with double or triple the amount of hops in an IPA. What you get is a very aromatic, hoppy, and high ABV ale.
Here are some double IPAs to look out for:
- Dangerously Close To Stupid Amounts Of Papaya Double IPA (9.3% ABV)
Brewed by To Øl, with a close to stupid amount of hops and papaya, giving it a rich hoppy and citrus aroma with notes of tropical fruit.
Other beers in the “Dangerously Close To Stupid” series include a double IPA with apricot and another with guava.
- Djuicy IPA (8.4% ABV)
Brewed by To Øl. This is a citrusy, fruity and malty ale.
- Thornbridge Huck Double IPA (7.4% ABV)
Brewed by Thornbridge. This ale has a sweet and piney body with a pleasantly warming alcohol sensation.
3. NOT YOUR ORDINARY LAGERS...BUT CRAFT LAGERS
With the rise of norm-challenging, high ABV, and hoppy ales, some brewers predict a rising thirst for refreshing and crisp craft lagers. Here are some lagers to try:
- Glowing Pig Mango Pilsner (4.5% ABV)
Brewed by To Øl in collaboration with The Booth Brewing. This is a fresh and easy drinking pilsner brewed with mango and dry hopped with mosaic hops.
- Lukas Helles Lager (4.2% ABV)
Brewed by Thornbridge. This is a crisp and elegant Helles with a slight citrusy note and pleasant maltiness.
4. BARREL-AGED BEERS
These are beers which have been aged in a wooden barrel over a period of time to add a complex twist to the flavour and aroma of the beer. From using barrels made from different types of wood (oak, hickory, apple, etc.) to reusing whiskey or bourbon barrels to age the beers, these are some barrel-aged beers to try:
- Huge Arker Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout (13.5% ABV)
Brewed by Anderson Valley Brewing Company. This imperial stout is aged in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels until it fully matures, giving it a silky and hearty body, rich dark chocolate and dark fruit notes, and hints of coffee.
- Ola Dubh Barrel-Aged Beer (8% ABV)
Brewed by Harviestoun, this porter has been aged in selected oak casks formerly used to mature Highland Park Single Malt Whiskies. A dark beer with a smoky-sweet malt taste and notes of coffee bean.
Try these beers at Taps Beer Bar Changkat or Plaza Arkadia, Taps Craft Beer Stand in Ben’s Independent Grocer at IPC or DC Mall, or Taps Beer Bar Penang.
Happy new year, happy new beers!
