Art Final
I seen a video of a terminally ill cancer patient giving his last good byes to his family and Youtube followers. This got me thinking that the man in the video could eventually be me. For some reason I began to think about this art final in the midst of all of this. With life being so fragile, every day alive is like winning the lottery.
Then an image popped into my head of someone spinning a wheel that decides how they are going to die because life is a game of chance. Everyone has to play this game so I figured there should be others waiting in line, in my art work. Since nobody really knows how their life will end I wanted to put blindfolds on the people in the work. Games are usually fun so I want the spinning wheel to be colorful but since the overall tone of the piece will be dark I will try to match the other colors accordingly.
I first sketched the idea onto a sticky note so that I would not forget these elements when it came to the project. The next day I made another sketch on my tablet. The person spinning the wheel was the first thing that I started to draw in color. I figured it does not really matter how they look since I wanted the subject to be relatable so I went with a blurred style that would give the viewer's imagination some leeway. I then created the curtains but the challenging part is shading them so I used an image as slight reference to have the folds look like folds. At this point I am starting to get a feel for how the finished product will look. Today I finished the project so I decided to add some extra details here are some pictures of my progress throughout my time working on it and the final image is the finished result.

Writing, Thinking and Looking Critically
While studying with Thomas Hart Benton, Pollock had painted using abstract imagery but this began to change as Pollock became more comfortable and creative with art. He wanted to "express emotions rather than illustrate them" and he considered representational imagery to be a distraction when it came to this. Pollock would experiment with art by painting an image then covering over it with thick layers of paint that would make the underlying image nearly indistinguishable. Eventually, he would transition to his famous drip paintings which lacked any imagery. This art form would express emotions solely through color, texture and splatter pattern. The decision to not including imagery in his paintings allowed for Pollock to have complete control of his art work, meaning that he could transfer his emotions directly from his thoughts to the canvas. With the art being based off of pure emotions it is almost universally relatable, as opposed to limiting the art to an experience that maybe not all people have been through.
Art Project
Whenever we have family members visit from other states or countries we all get together and have a great time. It helps me to break out of whatever habits I get stuck in and they bring excitement into my life. I tried to recreate that with this piece.

Sketchbook 3
The art work that I chose is an oil on canvas medium called Moonlight Landscape by Joseph Wright of Derby. It was created in 1785 and its dimensions are 25.5 X 30.5 inches. It features a small bridge over a body of water that blocks the moon behind it. There are trees in the foreground and they dissipate in the background. An indistinguishable person is walking with a working donkey while another person carrying a basket is standing on a ledge under the bridge near the water. There is not really any geometric shapes and the majority of the colors are different shades of blue and black with some white for highlights, dark green for nearby forestry, and a tiny bit of yellow for the lamp on the right side of the bridge. Even though the bridge covers the moon itself, the design revolves around the sky glow from the diffused light and the reflections on the water. It is asymmetrically balanced since most of the highlights and details are towards the left side of the painting; the right side contains dark rocks, dark trees and a small lamp but they do not draw the viewers attention right away. The lack of direct light from the moon does prevent the light from strongly overtaking the dark areas. The contrast between light and dark is emphasized. There is variety in the painting with different terrain and trees but unity is also involved with one main source of light and everything in the work is apart of nature, there is nothing like machines or factories.
This work makes me feel calm. The people in the oil painting seem lively but peaceful and there is no direct moonlight that would end up being very bright and emphasized. I also find blue to be a calming color in itself.
This piece of work belongs in the Romantic movement. It appeals more to the viewers emotions rather than reason. By placing the moon right behind the bridge a sense of wonder and mysticism is achieved because of the perfect timing. I believe that Wright wanted the art to speak to people and tell them that they do not need machinery and power to live. A simple life in nature is calm and peaceful. This painting does not send mixed signals and was in fact created during Industrial Revolution so I think Wright communicates this clearly once given some thought.
This is one of my favorite pieces of art in the Ringling Museum. The use of the moon's light provided many opportunities for the artist to add more detail to the reflections and shadows. The bright area catches the viewer's eye at first but then they will notice all of the details that were seemingly hidden in the dark just a moment ago. The entire painting works together to provide a tranquil experience and I believe that the message of nature's precious serenity is still relevant today.

Journaling Principles
Unity and Variety
Unity may be a single color, look plain or not have any variety. A picture with variety will have parts that look different like different colors, shapes, sizes or media.
Balance
Balance uses opposing forces to neutralize the overall image. May be achieved with symmetry or asymmetry.
Emphasis and Subordination
Emphasis draws your attention while subordination has areas that do not attract as much interest. A specific area that has emphasis is called a focal point.
Directional Forces
An implied direction in a piece of art included by the artist.
Repetition and Rhythm
Repetition is the recurrence of visual elements and rhythm is when these elements are repeated in a specific sequence.
Scale and Proportion
Scale is how big one thing is in relation to another. Proportion is the size of a part in relation to a whole.
Writing and Looking
Gerhard Richter, ABSTRACT PAINTING, Fig. 7.1, Page Unknown
There is a slight three dimensional shape created with the shading, thicker brush strokes to provide some texture, implied depth with the overlapping objects covering the horizon line, atmospheric perspective with the different colored land in the distance, and a bright sky to contrast with the darker land.
Connecting Art to My World
I have red-green color blindness which means that I have a problem distinguishing different hues with equal intensity. As a child I would have trouble using crayons without their labels or painting because I couldn't tell whether I had red or brown. Nowadays it doesnt really affect me (except having some trouble in chemistry) but I still wonder how colors like red, green, blue or purple look like to other people. I think this has affected the way I dress because I have mainly black or gray clothes and whatever colors I do have, they are very intense, bright and distinguishable. If I had to pick a color scheme then I would choose dark navy blue and a bright light blue, I like the contrast between the light and the dark and blue is my favorite color.
Art Project
I think that there’s a lot of great pets that are never given fair chances by their owners. This comic is about a young dog that was never potty trained and then given to the shelter.

In my opinion a good interactive site catches your attention and is memorable. The purpose of my number one is to show off Peter Oravec's portfolio when applying for jobs. This is my top interactive design that I could find because the theme is consistent throughout the entire website, you can teleport to certain information to save time in a rush, it is unique and it is informative. All of these come together to create a positive and memorable experience that separates Oravec from his competitors, fulfilling it's purpose.

"Jackson Pollock 1950 Autumn Rhythm (Number 30). Enamel on canvas; 105” x 207”.Some facts about Image #3 and Jackson Pollock"
It is believed to be valued at upwards of $140 million
Very large size at 4 by 8 feet and Pollock would splash paint onto the canvas using things like brushes, syringes and knives
Jackson Pollock used upholsterer's canvas because painter's canvas was too pricey for him
He was expelled from high school twice for being "rebellious"
Pollock died at 44 after crashing a car while drunk driving
Initially it reminded me of a cookie or maybe a Pop Tart with some icing on it; after looking at the image longer I now notice another color of paint that is not black or white. It now reminds me more of granite counter tops. I think of it different now that I learned that it is extremely valuable despite it's materials that were chosen specifically for their low cost. On top of that it makes me feel like its overpraised for the amount of effort that was put into making it.
Art and Writing
It is a black and white closeup photograph of a rhino printed onto canvas. It is for decoration and not really for any educational purpose because the angle doesn't show the rhino's proportions well and it only shows a small part of the entire rhino. I don't really think it is beautiful, there's even a little dirt on the horns. I more so think that it gives off a rugged and enduring look, the horns are dirty, the eyes are open, and it seems old with it's many wrinkles. The black and white aspect reminds me of rocks kind of fitting with the theme as well.
Self Portrait
I am a 20 year old male who moved from Chicago and has lived in Florida for most my life. My mom is Polish and my dad is Mexican. I like to go fishing, hang out with friends, work out, and play playstation. Im not in any groups but I used to be in track and XC at my high school. I work for an accountant and do bookkeeping. I feel like I am a forgiving person and have decent guidance but lack the motivation.
Art Project
For my first piece of art I drew myself walking through sand dunes to reach the homes of my family and I. I feel like this picture represents me because it shows that I am on a journey and I know where I want to be. Specifically, the journey represents me going to college and working for my future self even though I am not really benefiting from it in the moment. I hope to one day have the freedom to explore the world and start my own family but only after I have completed my journey.
I started with the first dune in the Apple Freeform app on my iPad and used a stylus. The app began to freeze and crash constantly but I wanted to keep using the same pen type so i continued using Freeform until i was done with the dunes and the sky. It must have crashed over 50 times. I decided to switch to the Adobe Fresco app afterwards which did not crash once.
