Saw this in a review of Space Marine 2 (emphasis added):
However, hulking squadmates Gadriel and Chairon are distrustful of Titus' long absence, while Titus himself is frustratingly standoffish. This translates to a lot of catty snark – space marines are many things, but emotionally literate they are not – but we don't get to explore these tensions in any real depth, which leaves the story a little shallow. Dialogue can be boiled down to 10 hours of the word "brother," while the straightforward yet serviceable story rarely reaches beyond carrying players from one desperate shootout to the next.
So clearly the writers nailed Ultramarine dialogue.

you want a new kind of guy, fine, i raise you: the lady i was briefly roommates with in college who once smoked a blunt at a party and then spent an hour confessing earnestly to me that she genuinely preferred reading detailed episode recaps over actually watching the tv show in question

i’m confused. you are a huge fan of pjo characters right? so how do you sit there and not call out a problem? you claim percy to be smart, but when rick writes about percy being an idiot and annabeth deeming him as one for an entire book, you are fine with that? youre fine with how she was shocked at him being smart? why are you pretending like everything is fine? inlike most of us, you have a platform. you can reach people. the only way to make things change is to speak up. aka the only way for rick to change is if we tell him what’s wrong. just like we told him to represent nico better and he did.
it is not okay for him to write annabeth like he did. he butchered her character and make her treat percy terribly. the annabeth haters are going to actually get a platform now. you have to call rick out!!
I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I haven’t said Percy’s portrayal as unintelligent is a good thing — I just haven’t had the chance to share a full review yet. I actually agree with you that it’s disappointing how often Rick makes Percy the butt of jokes about his intelligence, and I think Percy (and Annabeth) deserves better representation too. But it feels like your message is coming at me as though I’m opposed to this view, when I’m not. I also want to highlight that I’m just one person, and while I appreciate passionate discussions about representation, I don’t appreciate being spoken to in a confrontational way, especially when we’re on the same side. I support speaking up when things need to change, but it’s important to approach these conversations respectfully.

i think there's really something to be said about how there has never been a record i've encountered where people wanted justification or excuse to refuse to acknowledge the intention and seriousness of the project itself like danger days by both defenders and haters. i find it so incredibly bizarre and strange and partially fascinating.
#its all wrapped up in what danger days represents for people partially.#like idk ive been trying to verbalize it for yeaarsss but it always feels like people rhetorically discuss it as a side-effect#of whatever neurosis soothes their narrative. its a record of immense mania and tragedy for some people for instance#which i find very laughable but whatever. people want dd to be miserable for so many reasons#which is immediately rendered sort of null when you compare parade. both the touring and the album making process.#like realistically this is a band that every single record is shaded with immense difficulty and uncertainty#but instead of dealing with that fans love to sort of isolate danger days since its this moment of betrayal its the beginning of the end#its not what people wanted#when realisitically the single biggest creative pressure on the band would've been being severely in debt#to the label for scrapping con weap. LMAO. but that never factors. because its about narratives.#like danger days To Me is an incredibly ambitious record. clearly personal. artistically inspired. absolutely rushed job#because they were bleeding money.#but its cool that they took that stand!!! and they had to have felt collectively passionate enough to do that in the first place!#but people want to engage with it on the terms of their disappointment. or the record as a harbinger of doom.#idk i was reading rym reviews (a mistake) and its wild how the critical positive consensus is either#incredibly stupid teenagers thinking mcr want to firebomb a walmart or 'well its not as good but i like fun things!'#am i crazy for thinking it more serious than that? that its pulling sonically from a wide array of inspirations and actually working#in conversation with them???#anyway. synths 4ever.#my posts

I'm forever obsessed with the ways in which we interpret g-d and what He's up to. This time, our rabbi was mentioning that we study Torah, but g-d studies the commentaries and what we have to say about it and I'm just thinking...
I'm imagining g-d sat at a desk illuminated by candlelight, and it's the middle of the night, and He gets to one part and He snaps His fingers and goes, "tsk! Why didn't I think of that?!" and keeps murmuring to Himself, "now that was a good one"

I love your writing so much <33 your jason is the only jason ever actually.. the scenarios, the way the various characters come through through even just a few pieces of dialogue, the prose, it’s so chefs kiss!
🥹☺️ I’m getting so much anon love lately, it’s legit bolstering my mental health. Thanks so much friend, I’m so glad you love my Jason, he’s a keeper. 🥰
Apparently I’m starting a tradition of giving out snippets as a thank you in response to confidence-building asks. So, have a blurb from Incident Review, a one shot from the Asymmetrical Warfare ‘verse that’s set after Survival Instincts (hopefully coming to an AO3 near you soon).
“Tim isn’t the only Robin I taught that move to,” Dick murmurs quietly.
Babs’ sharp inhale punctures the heavy silence. “Dick…”
Dick keeps his gaze trained on the head of the table. He can almost see the invisible weight of the cape and cowl settling over Bruce’s silhouette as the man’s shoulders shift back, the muscles rippling underneath the worn cotton of his t-shirt. He won’t meet Dick’s eyes.
“Is it possible—” he tries.
“Enough.” Batman’s growl grates out of Bruce’s mouth. “That’s enough, Dick.”

Sitting there trying to find a non-confrontational way to talk about how the lack of engagement with the fics we write is depressing as fuck. Not coming up with anything since the mood on tumblr these days is to shame writers who feel sad that 99% of their readers don't interact with the stories they share yet still read everything.
How do I explain how incredibly heartbreaking it has been to see the community aspect of fic writing/sharing DIE over the years?

'Cause you're hot then you're cold
- Hot N Cold, Katy Perry
Tumblr media
Carmy’s actions in s2 are very Hot N Cold. He asks Syd out but he doesn’t show up. He invites Syd to his apartment to work on the menu but he changes his mind on the menu. He avoids Syd most of the time but he doesn’t want Marcus or Connor having Syd’s attention. He has no time to call the fridge guy but he finds time for Syd under the table. He clearly wants her but he pushes her away so I am wondering, why does Carmy act like this? Is it because he doesn’t want Syd to get too close to end up leaving again?
After Syd resigns, Carmy is devastated and his whole body really can’t believe that she just left him the restaurant. In the next episode, Tina asks when Syd is coming in but Carmy is in denial. For most of the episode, Carmy is sad and not himself. Although Syd comes back, I really don’t think Carmy got over Syd leaving him. I think Carmy’s actions in s2 was an outcome of Carmy believing that Syd could leave him at any time.

I really love this mutual respect and warmth between Oliver and Maxine. He really values and cares about her opinion that he even invites her to sitzprobe, which "is never done", scares Donna and Cliff and actually is done at Oliver's own peril. Maxine is critical, vitriolic, true to her own opinion, but still attentive to Oliver's feelings, she sees and sincerely appreciates his passion, she wants to see soul put into the production which is really there in the musical version and which is actually an essential part of Oliver's personality. According to what we have seen and heard, Maxine is really what critic should be: picky, discerning, but compassionate and giving a value to this "singing", a soul And this interaction just proves Oliver to be competent as a director, unsecured, caring about critics, lovable and ultimately passionate, which makes people who really know him to actually value him and follow him (as Charles said, "The world needs Oliver Putnams")
