#dark academia to ME: your campus having millions in deferred maintenance but we're getting a new baseball field#reluctance to discuss how peer review favors white Westerners#adjuncts literally being worked to death#that 80 year old professor who still refuses to learn how to use the LMS but also refuses to retire#having to do fucking lockdown drills while state legislators loosen gun laws(via@clonerightsagenda)
I invite you to a reading of my dark academia novel. You expect a bunch of smoldering boys in button up dress shirts. I start reading. Chapter one is a transcript of a two hour faculty senate meeting. You try the doors. They're locked.

Andy Kroll and Nick Surgey at ProPublica:
ProPublica and Documented obtained more than 14 hours of never-before-published videos from Project 2025’s Presidential Administration Academy, which are intended to train the next conservative administration’s political appointees “to be ready on day one.” Project 2025, the controversial playbook and policy agenda created by the Heritage Foundation and its allies for a future conservative presidential administration, has lost its director. In recent weeks, it faced scathing criticism from both Democratic groups and former President Donald Trump, whose campaign has tried to distance itself from the effort. But Project 2025’s plan to train an army of political appointees who could battle against the so-called deep state government bureaucracy remains on track. Video trainings like these are one of the “four pillars” of that plan, says Spencer Chretien, the associate director of Project 2025, in “Political Appointees & The Federal Workforce.” For transparency, we are publishing the videos as we obtained them.
The Heritage Foundation and most of the people who appear in the videos cited in this story did not respond to ProPublica’s repeated requests for comment. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, said, “As our campaign leadership and President Trump have repeatedly stated, Agenda 47 is the only official policy agenda from our campaign.”
ProPublica and Documented partner up to reveal 14+ hours’ worth of never-before-published videos from The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 Presidential Administration Academy.

We’re now banning words? This is at the college level, so we’re not talking about children, we’re talking about grown ass adults that aren’t allowed to hear these words. Teresakayenewman on TT

Students need our support right now.
As of April 28, over 800 (now 900) students have been arrested for protesting on campuses. Instead of listening to student demands, university presidents are calling the police and armed guards to shut down their activism.
Like a majority of people in the U.S., students want a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to genocide.
It has been over 200 days of Israeli massacres of Palestinians. It must end.
Students have played a pivotal role in changing the course of history, helping bring an end to the Vietnam War and South Africa's apartheid. And once again, students are making history.
Students are demanding that universities divest from corporations profiting from Israel's apartheid and genocide. They will not be silenced.
Take action with us. Email 27 university presidents and chancellors responding to nonviolent dissent with punishment and violence.
** Once you send emails on the first tab you will get moved to the next tab with more targets. The list keeps growing.

i read ‘cqms’ as cang qiong middle school earlier today, and ive been thinking about middle school teacher shen yuan for literally the whole day
shen jiu and shen yuan are 6th and 7th grade teachers—sj teaches history and sy teaches life science.
after having a miserable time in sj’s 6th grade class, lbh is anxious about having the other shen as his teacher in 7th grade—but sy is orders of magnitude nicer than his twin. he puts a stop to the bullying, stays late to help binghe with science (and later, his other subjects too), and doesn’t write binghe off as a ‘disciplinary problem’ or a lost cause
by the time he reaches 8th grade, he’s gone from the absolute bottom of his class to near the top. he takes sy’s science electives, and he comes back to visit his favorite teacher whenever he has the chance
and then he goes to high school.
the one thing that carries him through high school, and later through his middle-grade education degree, is his dream of returning to cang qiong and working alongside his favorite teacher…until that teacher falls in love with him. he’s definitely not staying at cqms any longer than it takes to get sy to love him back. and the best way to accomplish that is to complete his student teaching hours under sy’s guidance :)

1/22/25 I also wanted to talk about the importance of community work, now more than ever we need to help the immigrant community out. We need to use our resources to spread factual information, combating fear with preparedness.
I used my printer to print and hand cut and fold “immigrant rights” cards. You can easily find them online, I found a pdf and used that to print out around 80. I also printed stickers of Elon saluting, because unfortunately this is the reality we’re in right now.
Please help your community! If you don’t have access to any of this stuff, check out your local library, or spread the knowledge that this stuff exists to your community who might not know about it.
The Zine community, the DYI community, will NEVER stand with the oppressor.

Idk about you but CNN and news outlets calling students occupiers for peacefully protesting for divestments of a colony state that is currently occupying Palestine and murdering it civilians, attacking infrastructure and hospitals, while commiting genocide is insane.
"But but the protests make it hard for the students to learn it's disruptive!" People will say shit like this when Palestinians can't even learn or live a normal life because they are being bombed, killed, and starved of essential resources needed to live. Their schools have been bombed and destroyed and yet we have people complaining about a peaceful protests wanting to put an end to any investments that support this genocide and destruction. CNN, major news outlets, and campus faculty members calling the police on students should be ashamed for what they have done.
With some good news though student protestors got Brown University to hold a vote on whether they should divest soon in exchange for dropping the encampment. Students have said that they will still organize to make sure they vote to divest from Israel though but the main point is that protesting students managed to force a vote on this. Protests work and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

I think a lot of political action feels super pointless but the one thing I have found to actually have a tangible result is helping in your community. Volunteer or work for a non profit or just give a few dollars to a homeless stranger. Like yeah I guess I voted I guess I protested but there’s also a kid who can’t wait to see me for tutoring every day.

Dave Jamieson at HuffPost:
President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in November may have stalled the effort to organize college athletes into unions, at least through the formal election process. The union seeking to represent men’s basketball players at Dartmouth College withdrew its petition last week at the National Labor Relations Board, the federal agency that oversees union elections. The Service Employees International Union Local 560 said its strategy would be “shifting” in the years ahead. Then, on Monday, the NLRB’s general counsel also dismissed an unfair labor practice charge pending against the school, alleging Dartmouth had illegally refused to bargain with the union. That case is now closed.
The quick unraveling of the election case shows how much a presidential election can impact a labor campaign. After taking office later this month, Trump will have the opportunity to flip the NLRB’s 5-member board from a Democratic to Republican majority, likely making it harder to organize in higher education and other fields. The SEIU had prevailed in its election for the Dartmouth team last March, with 13 players voting in favor of unionizing and just two against. But the school challenged the premise that private-sector college athletes are employees under the law and therefore eligible to form unions and bargain ― a legal question the board has wrestled with, off and on, for a decade. A regional director for the labor board sided with the SEIU early in the case, and the union would have had a good shot before a Democratic board in Washington, but the calculus changed with the outcome of the presidential election.
[...] He also argued that collective bargaining was the “only viable pathway” for addressing issues in college sports like eligibility rules and payments for NIL, or “name, image and likeness,” which players are now able to profit from.
[...] Trump’s election is not a death knell for efforts to organize college athletes. Democrats could flip the board after retaking the White House in four or eight years, and in the meantime, athletes could try to pressure their schools for voluntary recognition of their unions. That’s when an employer agrees to bargain without forcing workers through the NLRB process. Voluntary recognition could be the central strategy for other higher-ed campaigns in the years to come under a Republican board. Conservatives have tended to rule in universities’ favor on questions like whether graduate-student workers should be able to unionize, which should make unions cautious when it comes to filing election petitions. The Dartmouth players were not the first athletes at a private college to try to unionize. Ten years ago, football players at Northwestern University in Illinois launched a union effort with the help of the United Steelworkers. The then-Democratic board dodged the case by declining to assert its jurisdiction, ending the union campaign without opening the election ballots. But the landscape of college sports has shifted significantly since then, with the public and regulators more aware of the revenue athletes generate for their schools.
With Donald Trump’s victory, efforts to unionize college athletes will get a lot harder.

Morgan Stephens at Daily Kos:
To no one’s surprise, Donald Trump’s immigration policies are off to a chaotic start before he even takes office. The uncertainty is palpable, especially for international students who have been told by faculty to stay on campus during holiday break and summer breaks due to Trump’s travel ban that will be enacted once he’s inaugurated. The Wall Street Journal reports that Chinese officials are also telling Chinese students in the United States not to leave the country for the holidays or during the following school year. This follows calls from numerous U.S. universities advising international students to return to campus before Trump’s second term begins on Jan. 20, 2025. “A travel ban is likely to go into effect soon after inauguration,” Cornell University Office of Global Learning advised students. “The ban is likely to include citizens of the countries targeted in the first Trump administration: Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Myanmar, Sudan, Tanzania, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, Yemen, and Somalia. New countries could be added to this list, particularly China and India.”
With Trump repeatedly promising a full-scale immigration overhaul and mass deportations on “day one,” the fear is that students—regardless of their country of origin—could be swept up in the crackdown.
Adding to the anxiety among students and faculty, Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan reiterated that he has no problem reinstating Trump’s first administration’s “zero tolerance” child separation policy. This cruel and chaotic immigration policy separated families from their children while keeping them locked in prison-like detention centers.  Meanwhile, Trump ally and Department of Government Efficiency co-chair appointee Elon Musk is publicly feuding with the MAGA coalition over immigration, revealing tensions among rightwing leadership.  The dispute started when conservative activist Laura Loomer criticized Trump’s decision to appoint Sriram Krishnan as AI adviser, citing his support for removing green card per-country caps for skilled immigrants. Loomer, known for promoting racist views, argued that foreign workers—particularly in STEM—were taking jobs from Americans. Musk responded by saying that the United States lacks talented engineers, so he supports providing more visas to skilled workers.
International students are urged to return to the college campuses on US soil before Donald Trump returns to office due to the very real fears of a travel ban being issued for certain countries, such as Nigeria, Iran, Venezuela, Syria, and possibly China and/or India.
