ELVIS' FAVORITE FOODS

One of my favorites (if not the favorite) pieces of info about E's private life.

When I brought Elvis in something that he really loved to eat, he was adorable, sitting up against the pillows, cross-legged in his men’s pajamas. He had this cute little dance he did in bed, where he rocked from side to side, sometimes with his eyes closed, with this beatific smile on his face, almost like Stevie Wonder. That’s how much he loved his favorite foods. It tasted so good to him and made him so supremely content. I can still see him rocking left to right in bliss, enjoying his food. Linda Thompson on her memoir book, "A Little Thing Called Life: On Loving Elvis Presley, Bruce Jenner and Songs In Between".

Some of the treats Linda mentioned Elvis liked were:

A pound of bacon, a six-egg omelet, and five or six pieces of toast.

"When I took the enormous portion up to him on his tray and put it in front of him, as he’d predicted, he didn’t ever eat all of it. So, no, he didn’t eat oversize portions every night. Honeydew melon

During Elvis Week 2024, Linda said that Elvis requested honeydew melon for dessert, especially when he needed to control his weight gain (which she says, as we can imagine, was often). At night she would bring him his order, one of his favorites according to her, and they would put a towel on the bed, as usual whenever they'd eat in his bedroom. El would sit cross-legged, happily eating his honeydew melon and (occasionally) with each bite he would do that little dance that she told in her book.

As for the food Elvis couldn't stand, Linda said:

"My preferred diet ['Mediterranean diet with a lot of fish and vegetables'] suffered during those years because Elvis would never allow fish to be cooked at Graceland or anywhere we were. He hated the smell of fish."

Age 25: He enters the first annual Justice League cook-off and immediately gets banned from ever entering again

Age 26: He tries to comfort little Dickie Grayson by making fried cornbread from a book of Roma comfort recipes. It turns out about as well as you'd expect when you give Bruce Wayne hot oil. Bruce is genuinely bummed out, but Dick says it's the thought that counts

Age 27: Clark delivers a huge hunk of beef from the farm. Instead of waiting for Alfred to come back, Bruce and Dick try to break it down with a power saw

Age 28: Bruce and Dick's latkes are burned so badly they can play floor hockey with them

Age 29: He makes stuffed mushrooms. Badly. Like imagine the worst way you can fuck up a mushroom. It still won't compare to what Bruce did. And it's for a potluck with the West-Allens that Barry won't let him live down

Age 30: Bruce sees Dick struggling to make ravioli and he's like "Let me show you how it's done" before proceeding to make it infinitely worse

Age 31: Bruce sees a hungry Jason Todd and the first thing he does when they return to the manor is make a double-decker bread sandwich. That's bread with two more slices of bread in between

Age 32: Bruce packs Dick and Jason's lunchboxes when Alfred is out of town. They're supposed to include a salad. Instead, Dick gets a whole head of lettuce and Jason's is just a bottle of ranch

Age 33: He makes hot chocolate after patrol... but forgets the chocolate

Age 34: The Manor is too cold, so Bruce tries to warm it up by making Jason's favorite soup. His hands shake the whole time. Suddenly, he's eight years old again, sitting on the kitchen floor surrounded by scraps reminding him of his failure

Age 35: Jack and Janet Drake are out of the country again, leaving young Timmy by himself. Bruce decides to bring some dinner over. It's baked perfectly, but it's full of things that shouldn't be anywhere near a casserole dish. They end up ordering takeout and watching old detective movies together

Age 36: Steph walks through how to make waffles. Bruce is standing there, watching closely and taking notes. They still come out looking radioactive

Age 37: Cass asks if they can get smoothies. Bruce says he can make them at home. She gives him a warning look but that's not enough to stop him. Cue Bruce forgetting to put the lid on the blender

Age 38: Jason's first night back at home, Bruce tries to make that soup. It shoots out like a geyser and hits the lights. He's panicking until he hears Jason laugh, and then the soup doesn't matter

Age 39: Damian screws up hummus and he desperately tries to hide it so people won't see him as inadequate at something so basic. Instead of getting upset, Bruce assures him it's okay and offers to fix it. (He doesn't fix it, he just makes it worse)

Age 40: Bruce's birthday happens while he's fake-dead and away from home. He grabs a convenience store cupcake and sticks a single candle on it. Then he closes his eyes, pretends his family is around him, and makes a wish. (The candle droops and sets the hotel sheets on fire)

Age 41: Back at the Manor, he attempts to make lemonade on a particularly hot day. Selina offers to help, but Bruce declines, saying, "How hard can it be?" (Spoiler alert: it's not supposed to be full of seeds)

Age 42: Kate shows him a video of Canadians pouring maple syrup into the snow to make candy, so he gets her to boil the syrup so they can do it together. The problem comes when they can't control the pour and end up with a glob the size of Damian

Age 43: As part of a school project, Bruce and Duke try to deduce the Coca-Cola secret formula. Duke's teacher takes a point off because at the beginning he told her he'd taste the results, but there's no way he's doing that now

Age 44: The family gets together to make a full English breakfast Alfred's birthday. Each person takes a part—Dick has eggs, Jason has the grilled tomatoes, Tim has mushrooms, Duke has the bacon, Steph and Cass are tag-teaming the sausages, Damian just has to open a can of beans, and Bruce needs to put bread in the toaster. Fuck. I'm so sorry. This happened a few months ago and it's been eating at me.

Background:

I (30nb) volunteer at my local mosque - usually cleaning up litter or handing out food to the homeless, but also lately organizing drives and protests for Palestine. I'm white and non-religious, but I have a few friends at the mosque and I like to get involved in the community. Once we're done making meals, there's usually a tiny bit of food leftover that the imam encourages us to take, because otherwise it will go bad. I usually take the most bruised/undesireable stuff after everyone else has had their pick. I also take the near-empty peanut butter jars - there's maybe 2 spoonfuls left in each if you scrape everything out with a spatula. I use the rest of the PB, and wash and recycle the jars. They would be thrown out if left at the mosque.

I also make something I jokingly referred to once as a "pussy smoothie" and the name has since stuck. I made it after having sex with my partner and my blood sugar dropping too low. It's basically just a mix of nutritious stuff thrown in a blender - frozen squash, banana, peanut butter, etc. The pussy smoothie staple always contains peanut butter, banana, and cocoa powder. I usually make one after sex/masturbating as a sort of aftercare for me.

The issue:

I made one of these after masturbating a few months ago, and I included the last rotted banana from the mosque as well as the remaining peanut butter and a hot chocolate packet.

My partner saw, and questioned why I used the stuff from the mosque. It was all we had. We're broke and food insecure, so it's not uncommon for us to use whatever we can. They said I shouldn't use donated food for it, and instead make other things like a sandwich for work or something, and asked what the imam would think.

I am NOT about to ask anyone at the mosque, especially not the imam, what they think of my post-sexy time smoothies. So I'm asking here.

Banana, oat n' nut cookies

Given the absolute gorgeousness of the other contributions to @elainarcheronweek's cookie exchange, I feel a bit ashamed sharing this recipe. I've been putting it off for a couple of weeks, 'cause let's face it: they are neither pretty nor decadent, nor do they require much skill.

Please remember that these cookies are intended for little palates who are not used to a lot of sugar; I usually make them without the chocolate chips, so they're more appropriate for a regular snack/energy bomb for kids who love to run themselves ragged. But 'tis the season, so the chocolate chips went in this time.

I like that these contain the veggie form of omega 3 in the chia seeds and LSA, and you can swap out the nut butter you're using to maintain regular allergen exposure to different nuts. They are also vegan, which means your kitchen pixie is unlikely to give themself salmonella when they shove their hands in the bowl to "help" and taste. Side note: if you have any tips to get a toddler to actually roll the dough into a ball instead of straight up eating it I'm all ears!

If you are my irl friend, and you happened across this post and think it looks just like the recipe I shared with you for your kid... no it doesn't. You didn't see anything here. What is a fandom anyway? I wouldn't know.

But I digress! I think this would be the perfect recipe for Elain to make with Nyx, as it's both super easy and forgiving, and - so far - the kids all love them.

Banana, Oat 'n Nut Cookies

Makes approx. 20 without the choc chips, a few more with them.

Ingredients

3x overripe bananas, mashed

½ cup pitted dates, minced OR 2 tsp sugar

1 pinch salt (optional)

2 heaped dessert spoons of nut butter (PB, almond, a mix like ABC etc)

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ cup chia seeds

½ cup rolled oats

½ cup desiccated coconut

½ cup LSA (linseed, sunflower, almond meal mix)

100g chocolate chips (optional - I used vegan, you can use whatever you prefer, or not at all)

Plain/all purpose flour as required (at least 1 cup)

Method

Preheat your oven to 180°C/350°F, I like fan forced.

Mash the bananas and mince the dates if using them; add both together (or the sugar instead) and stir in the salt, nut butter, vanilla and cinnamon.

Add chia seeds, LSA, oats and desiccated coconut, then let the mix sit for 15 mins to absorb some moisture.

Gradually add in plain flour as required, mixing until you can form firm but tacky balls. Flatten them a little on the lined baking tray if you prefer the shape.

Bake at 180C/350F for 10-12 mins, until cookies are lightly golden brown but still soft-ish to touch.

Enjoy! Or let cool and then freeze, they defrost quite quickly at room temp and don't turn awful in the process.

in the office, more often than not, it's whatever the bullpen's kitchenette has to offer - granola bars, assorted fruits, things like that. but since they're on the bland side, he mainly relies on snacks he brings from home, or he does have a box of microwave popcorn stored in one of his office cupboards. i also like to think - eventually he does have a drawer solely for snacks, for jack and any other kiddos when they visit 🥹

speaking of, at home: more homemade, healthy snacks. he's big on celery and peanut butter - getting a vegetable in, as well as the nutrients peanut butter provides. aaron's totallyyyyyy guilty of picking through jack's snacks too - goldfish crackers, fruit roll ups, fruit snacks. he's not a fan of chips - either too salty or greasy. but they are in the house because jack likes them/they'll go in his lunch every so often. however, aaron loves tortilla chips and guac/salsa 🫶🏻 big fan of hummus and pita too!!!

in the field, uncrustables. they're easy, he stores them in his briefcase, and it's something that can act as either a quick snack or a small lunch. it's good on the go too - for example, if he needs to go interview a witness or to a crime scene, he'll eat one en route in the car. he doesn't mind the strawberry jelly ones, but prefers grape

as for working out - smoothies (pb and banana, strawberry and banana), greek yogurt with granola, protein shakes, lots of water. he'll drink chocolate milk occasionally too 🫶🏻

and before you - aaron considered coffee a snack 😭 but you were quick to veto that - you were like yeah absolutely not you need something on your stomach and coffee does not cut it 😭

WARD goes nuts for weather documentaries over a movie or a cartoon, though he's also entirely willing to watch a cartoon episode if it's based around that! When regressed, he really is a one-track mind, even more so than when he's not. When they're on shore leave, he will genuinely sit and watch the weather channel as if he was watching like a sport game.

Comfort food isss more of a snacker but honestly if it's something that Bones actually MAKES not just from the replicator, he'll go crazy for that most of the time because Bones makes really good comfort food I think. Probably would like garlic bread with meatballs no pasta!!

and OFC Ward has Gale! she out ranks him and was kina like his CG before Bones and now she's his buddy and. "babysitter" if bones is busy!

he's not super interested in other stuffed animals, but he DOES have a teddy bear that has a raincoat, hat, and boots! Ward does have some of those weather measuring kits and a "weather rock" Kirk got as a joke

COOPER has a hard time picking favourites, but if he's put in charge of the movie or cartoon, he'll probably pick something with an animal focus! Think Fox and The Hound or Dalmation-type animal movies over like Robin Hood (disney's one) or Zootopia, where they're more people than animal. Cartoon-wise, he likes to hear the intro song a bunch of times (only partially bc it drives Ward NUTS)

Comfort food I think would be chocolate chips pancakes. with peanut butter and bananas, made like a sandwich (the PB + banana inside, the pancake like the bread) cut into bite-sized bits to dip in syrup. but he thinks its a lot of work so if asked, he usually just says something about Banana Milk (i think cooper would like most of like. sweet milks. they have a sweet tooth)

Cooper has some toys, he likes hands on ones, soft blocks, those ones where you roll the beads along a wire, ect! he doesn't have a Plushie or Blankie even tho he does REALLY want one but like he wants to be GIVEN it but he won't ask for it PUPPY-Coop has chewies!! he loves them he has dino ones and green ones and chomp chomp

RORY will take any movie because 10 minutes in, he WILL be asleep. it almost never fails. if it's a farm movie, however, he will probably stay awake a bit longer, but then he wants to go cuddle his farm animals

he likes a fresh baked loaf of bread for snacking on! with butter or peanutbutter or jam because then it gets all melty on the fresh hot bread! He also likes fruit salad a lot but No Grapes because grapes in fruit salad are almost always mushy,,,, ick

he has a purple sheep he loves to snuggle with AND an old blue shark that Capri bought him ages ago, and he loves to just lay on the couch or a bed or the steps and just sit and hug them
