Dear Cassandra Clare,
I am talking in behalf of the entire fandom and most likely of the vast majority of the characters you yourself have created and written about in your books. This is my official plea to give Zara Dearborn a torturous and horrible death. This fictional character is hated by all of us and has done unforgivable sins. The only right punishment would be death. Now if you want I can give you some suggestions... For instance medieval torture was very effective and painful and therefore perfect. Now of course you could also make Emma Carstairs or Julian Blackthorn kill her which would be enjoyed by the readers very much... Of course disowning her family name would also be a perfect addition to whatever punishment you may give her
Kindest regards,
Probably the whole fandom
PS: please do not kill any of the main characters. I am begging.

Queer Fantasy Books Bracket: Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Book summaries below:
The Dark Artifices series (Lady Midnight, Lord of Shadows, Queen of Air and Darkness) by Cassandra Clare
It’s been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses. Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn’t lead her in treacherous directions… Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark—who was captured by the faeries five years ago—has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind—and they need the Shadowhunters’ help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn’t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it? Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare’s Dark Artifices series. Fantasy, young adult, paranormal, urban fantasy, series
The Knight and the Necromancer series (The Capital, The Border, The Sea) by A.H. Lee
It’s a classic fairytale: Knight meets necromancer. They argue. They fight. They…make out? Prince Roland comes home from the war to bury his father and see his sister on the throne. He sneaks out to his favorite tavern for nostalgia’s sake. It’s the place where he kissed a man for the first time, the place where he used to carouse with the lover he buried on a battlefield. Roland expects to enjoy some anonymity and perhaps flirt with a few strangers for old time’s sake. He does not expect to find a fascinating scholar from out of town—a lonely young man with beautiful eyes and an obvious longing to be touched, buried beneath a prickly demeanor. The man clearly has his secrets, but so does Roland, and their unexpected chemistry makes him feel alive for the first time in months. Roland exerts all his knightly charm and is rewarded by the promise of a second date. He figures he’ll need something to look forward to tomorrow, since he must spend the day in council with his family’s sworn enemy—a necromancer whom his sister has rashly invited to consult about the war. Sairis is a necromancer with a price on his head. He knows that he will have to bargain for his life tomorrow. He’s never been this far from his tower. He’s good with magic, not people. He’s frightened, although he doesn’t want to admit it. Sairis knows he’s doing something foolish by visiting a tavern the evening before his meeting with the royals—a tavern that caters to men of certain tastes. But Sairis wants things. Things a hunted outlaw can never have. He tells himself that he’ll just watch—see what ordinary people enjoy every day. Sairis is confident in his ability to intimidate anyone who comes too close. He’s shocked when a dazzling mountain of a man is not intimidated in the slightest. Sairis knows a knight when he sees one. He has killed plenty of knights. But this knight is funny and kind. Sairis finds his defenses melting in spite of his best efforts. Maybe he could go on a second date with this person. Of course, he’ll have to get through tomorrow first…when he must bargain with the hated royals who have persecuted him all his life. Fantasy, romance, secondary world, series

Ratings Storytelling – 10/10 World Building – 10/10 Characters – 10/10 Romance – 4/10 Character Development – 10/10 Overall Rating – 10/10
Review This is so far one of my favorites of the series. I loved the action, romance, setting, and just everything. I have seen Shadowhunter’s tv show so I know more than I want to about the book (mainly because I want to live this as I read it), but I am still really happy with the books. They are better than both the movie and tv show. Honestly, I hope the rest of the books can live up to this one. Now into the review! Honestly, all of them traveling to Alicante wasn’t much of a surprise to me. I mean I figured the main characters would be there. But Jace lying to Clare and to the Lightwood’s about everything (Clary the time, Lightwood’s that Clary didn’t want to go) was BULL! Though I do think that Jace pulling Simon through the portal to save him was pretty nice of him. But Clary making a portal!!!! WTF! Like she could have died and PULLING Luke THROUGH!!! But I guess that leads us to meeting Luke’s sister, Amatis. She really was a favorite minor character, so far.
Tumblr media
One thing I HATED was Jace’s reaction to Clary being there. What he said to her! NOT COOL! He completely broke her with that little, stupid speech of his. Like 100% made me hate him for a little while. It was uncalled for and just RUTHLESS! Then not telling her Simon was there and then keeping it from her about him being locked in a CELL in the Gard. Like seriously. That’s her best friend and he just DOESN’T tell her. Big no no Jace. Bad Jace. I honestly didn’t like that part of the book. Then he just brushes it under the rug like it didn’t really happen and he wasn’t a complete ASSHAT! Samuel/Hodge was a surprise little toss in for us. I think that it gave his character the much-needed closure with everything that went one. I know there could have been more and probably better ways, but the way it was done was good. I approve. I really thought it was some random dude for a while. But him knowing where the mirror was and him actually telling them about it was a bit of a redemption for him in my eyes.
Tumblr media
I don’t even want to talk about Sebatian/Johnathan…I hated him from the moment he appeared. Like everything about him was just OFF. I also knew he was Johnathan (from the tv show), but it was really well written and hidden with little hints of who he was. HIM KILLED MAX WAS UNCALLED FOR AND I HOPE THAT WHATEVER IS COMING FOR HIM IS THE WOREST THING POSSIBLE!!!!!!! I also think that Seb releasing the demons early was just dumb, like he is so bloodthirsty he couldn’t wait like he was told. Guess that Demon Blood means he is impatient. Then him wanting to kill Jace, yeah, we get it jealous boy. Then him telling Jace the truth and stabbing him. Like just tell us you are jealous that daddy didn’t love you like he did Jace and that you are just a sad little boy. I know he’s not dead…but I wish he was. Because I HATE HIM!!!
Tumblr media
The whole Ithuriel stuff was HEARTBREAKING! That poor angel was tortured and so broken. I loved that he was able to communicate with Jace and Clary about what he had been through in an interesting way. Though I HATED that he just offed himself. Like I get he was broken and all, but like he could have gone home. He could have had his vengeance. Like WHY!!!
Tumblr media
I am a Malec fan! 100%! I loved that Alec was so willing to introduce Magnus to his family. I can’t wait to watch their relationship grow! Alec kissing Magnus in the Hall was PERFECTION! I LOVED IT! Along with that I LOVE Luke and Jocelyn together. I think there is great potential for a great love story there!
Tumblr media
Jace, saying he loved Clary and then watching her sleep was kind of cute. I mean I love he was able to say it before going off on his little mission to save the world…asshat, but the note he left her was SO DAMN CUTE (Don’t know if everyone has read the full thing, but in the special edition I have it was at the end…I flipped to read it). But Jace going off on his own because he thought he was “cursed” was just stupid! Clary going off on her mom. I think it was needed…in a way. Clary had been thrown into this life and having to figure out everything on her own…I would go off to. I am glad that they were able to reconcile. I loved that we were also given the events of before. I liked seeing Jocelyn’s point of view from it all. She had her reasons, and I get that. I also liked that Valentine talked to her while she was in her coma. It did give him more character traits, other than being the asshole he was. Valentine…just that’s all. I hate him…glad he is dead…he deserved worse. He killed the Inquisitor even though he was a hologram…how!?!? Then finding out the Consul was on his side…glad he died too!
Characters Clary - Main Character (Shadowhunter) - 9/10 - Again, Clary just jumps into things without fully thinking. But she does do the things she does with a reason in her head and heart. She just wanted to save her mom and the other people she loved. I think that as time goes on, she will learn more about her ability to create runes and hopefully use them! I did love that she got the Clave to work with the downworlders!
Jace - Bad Boy (Shadowhunter) - 8/10 - I loved that he didn’t just leave Simon there to die at the Institute. Then Jace going off on Clary like that in the library was so HARSH! Him treating her like that was not cool. I mean I get why he did, to try and protect her…but there could have been a better way. He does get better. As stated above in my Jace section.
Isabelle (Izzy) - Sexy Goddess (Shadowhunter) - 8/10 - I hated Izzy at the start. Because she was cruel to Clary and just bleh, but she came back. She kicked some ass and saved Aline. I hated that she blames herself for Max’s death…really hate that. But she pulled through, the best she could and saved Jace. She took Seb’s fucking hand like a BOSS!!!!
Alec - Gay Bestie! (Shadowhunter) - 9/10 - He really has grown! I love that he is more open and willing to be with Magnus. I think that there should be more of his development as a character. I can’t wait.
Simon – Vampire Bestie - 9/10 - Though Simon was locked up most of the book, he really pulled his weight towards the end. Accepting the Mark of Cain and going to Raphael took GUTS! Then agreeing to be in the battle and going full vamp! PERFECTION! I also love that he is letting go of the idea of Clary and him. I mean it’s sad, but it also means he gets a chance to be happy.

Novel #15
City Of Bones
By Cassandra Clare (⭐⭐⭐⭐)
Favorite lines from the novel:
• “Is this the part where you start tearing off strips of your shirt to bind my wounds?”
• “If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have just asked.”
• “Sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt.”
• “The boy never cried again, and he never forgot what he'd learned: that to love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed.”
• “Declarations of love amuse me. Especially when unrequited.”
• “I said his poetry was terrible. It sounds like he ate a dictionary and started vomiting up words at random.”
• “Where there is love, there is often also hate. They can exist side by side.”
• “What do you want?” “Just coffee. Black - like my soul.”
• “Tsk tsk,” he interupted. “No swearing in church.”
• “All knowledge hurts.”
• “And next time you're planning to injure yourself to get my attention, just remember that a little sweet talk works wonders.”
• “Just kissing? How quickly you dismiss our love.”
• “Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself.”
• “Just because you call an electric eel a rubber duck doesn't make it a rubber duck, does it? And God help the poor bastard who decides they want to take a bath with the duckie.”
• “The meek may inherit the earth, but at the moment it belongs to the conceited. Like me.”
• “A diary with no drawings of me in it? Where are the torrid fantasies? The romance covers?”
• “Jace on the other hand, looked like the kind of boy who'd come over your house and burn it down just for kicks.”
• “I have a high pain threshold. In fact, it's more of a large and tastfully decorated foyer than a threshold. But I do get easily bored.”
• “I like anyone killing things, especially me.” he said with a smile.
• “Sure, we love reproducing it's one of our favorite things.”
• “Going round and around inside a dryer can be fatal, whereas pasta is rarely fatal. Unless Isabelle makes it.”
• “Are you the one with the blue eyes?" “Actually, my eyes are usually described as golden...and luminous.”
• “Only when his mouth came close to her ear did she understand what he was saying, and it was the simplest litany of all: her name, just her name.”
• “I knew Greater Demons were meant to be ugly, but no one ever warned me about the smell.”
• “Jace can draw?” “I was just kidding. He can't draw a straight line.”
• “Pretty soon the only people left without a girlfriend will be me and Wendell the school janitor, and he smells like windex.” “At least you know he's still available.”
• “Vampires are such prima donnas.”
• “That's true. Chairman Meow deserves my every effort.”

chain of thorns opinion:
I’m not going to lie, I had low hopes from this book because I was disappointed with chain of iron. And I’m glad for it because what the actual fuck lol. I hated all the self-pitying in this book. It made me want to pull my hair out of frustration. James and Cordelia aren’t even a couple I care about and it took SO LONG for them to communicate properly. Like how’d y’all end up falling in love when ur communication is awful with each other.
I thought there’d be more Jesse and Grace sibling moments, but Jesse really said fuck it when she revealed the shitty things she’s done. Even though, she was a child who was coerced into doing them. Thank u Christopher for setting the group straight. Like y’all don’t have to forgive her because it was very very awful what she did to James, but she was a child with an abusive, authoritative figure who kept her isolated. Although her trying to seduce James again in chain of iron🤦🏻‍♀️ .
The plot also felt rushed. I feel like the timeline of the story could’ve been longer. Everything got quickly fixed in like five paragraphs with the enclave, the necromancy, the belial relation, and the blackmailing inquisitor.
Christopher’s death. It felt incredibly overshadowed. And it was obvious that his death’s only purpose was to say one of the ‘mains’ died. I felt like if Cassandra Clare wanted someone to die, it should’ve been Matthew in the other realm with belial. Like after James and Matthew finally start truly connecting again. Like IMAGINE the gut wrenching pain that would’ve came from that. Don’t get me wrong, Christopher’s death made me sad, but it was just so unneeded. I also hated that it was Cordelia that ended Tatiana. It should’ve been Jesse, James, Anna, or grace. ALSO why was Cordelia always in a fight when she couldn’t really be useful in one without summoning Lilith. She lowkey got Christopher killed (I said what I said).
Loved Thomas and Alastair. Idk how Alastair ever fell for Charles though.
The ‘final’ battle was dumb lol. I’m sorry. Like what’d belial think James plan was. It was so easy.
It’s weird how excited I was for this series for it to turn out like this :/.
Anyways I loved the infernal devices and the dark artifices series. I REALLY hope the new story with Ty and Kit will continue amazingly. Cant wait for more family dynamics with Tessa, jem, kit, and Mina.

Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare
First of all, what the fuck Cassandra??
Second. Holy shit Cassandra.
Ngl, I was a little scared of reading this book. I really, really wanted to love it, and Cassie's last book wasn't as brilliant as I thought it would be. But I do trust Cassie, and I knew the circumstances between the writing process of these two books couldn't have been more different, so. Here we are. Such a good decision.
The writing, character construction and world building, outstanding as always. I did feel the first half was a little slow, but it placed the perfect ground for a killing second half. I wish I could say I couldn't put the book down, but I don't have that kind of life privileges anymore. HOWEVER, I kept being dragged toward it. Over and over and over. I've been struggling with finishing books for a few years now, and believe me when I tell you that the mere fact got to the very end means something.
Now, let's get serious. As someone that could have a PhD in TSC if it were allowed, I know how her books work. And, jfc. I cannot stress enough how much of an introductory book this is. Like, you need to understand how good it was that it doesn't even feel like one. It's just the beginning of what could become a masterpiece. Just, oh god.
All the plot lines, the twists, the little intrigues, the small details and pieces of data, paint such a mysterious picture it just leaves you craving for more. There's not one question with a simple answer, if there's an answer at all. You're just as lost as the characters, locked in the dark, the feeling of danger very present in your mind, knowing you have more than one threat breathing in your neck.
The relationships and dynamics of power are one of the most interesting parts of the books. Power holds such an important meaning in the lives of the protagonists that's almost a character in its own right. Cassie uses it as a weakness and a strength, an obstacle and an advantage. It's the constant in the conflicts and the weapon used against the main characters.
I don't think I can say much more without giving away some spoilers. Just know, 4/5. I have no main complaints atm. Great book.

Ok I'll bite.
First off, it depends what you mean by fanfic?
“Fanfiction” gets used pejoratively a LOT (a la My Immortal), to demean its quality; usually by people who act like fanfic's nothing but gay/smutty self-inserts; or that just cuz fics are self-published that they can't be peer-reviewed (a la beta readers); or that just cuz most fics are written by unpublished "amateurs" & recreational hobbyists that they can't be well-written.
Even though there's thousands of fic authors who write WAY better than published authors. Even though there are professional authors who started out as fanfic writers (e.g. Shadowhunters' Cassandra Clare). Even though professional authors have been known to even use pseudonyms to write gay/smutty self-inserts--a la Anne Rice herself (aka Anne Rampling / A. N. Roquelaure). Look at 50 Shades, which started as just a fanfic of Twilight b4 someone in Hollywood read it & liked it enough to adapt it into a movie (curse them).
I've been in fandoms where the fanon is WAY BETTER than the book/film/show canon (*cough* Teen Wolf *cough* 😒). The "Fix-It" tag & "Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence" tag exists for a reason, cuz sometimes the canon is TRASH, and people's headcanons work BETTER. When an adaptation ELEVATES the source material, who cares if it's self-published fanfiction or a Hollywood production, so long as it's GOOD? 🍻
Tumblr media
Hell, even the IWTV movie ignored a lot of canon.
Where's Louis' siblings (X X)? Where's Babette (X X)? What in the heterosexual "wife & child" was Louis talking about?! Where was Lestat's dad? It wasn't gay enough. Where was Antoine? Why was Loumand's part so dang brief? Why TF did the Botticelli angel Armand look suspiciously like Antonio Banderas in a Morticia Addams wig? Why was Louis' hair BROWN when it was supposed to be BLACK? Isn't Lestat supposed to be TALL? 🤨 Etcetcetc. (A lot of this the show actually FIXES!)
Claudia was aged up from 5 to what? 12? Only for AR to create a very high-functioning preteen vampire with Benji in TVA--thus highlighting just how important it was that Claudia was supposed to be FIVE. A toddler. IMAGINE: a 5 year old's head chopped off and sewn on a grown woman's body. Not 10 or 12 or 14 or 19--FIVE. That's the Claudia I'm still waiting to see on screen--THAT is a monster. But Kirsten & Bailey & Delainey are STILL killing it, regardless.
And wasn't Lestat a "typical evil man" when he jumped Daniel?
Tumblr media
Some fans were tickled by the film changing the ending, while others HATED it. It not only made Lestat "OOC" (hijacking Armand's role as Dan's Maker but WORSE--cuz if the film implied that Les turned Dan into a vampire then that scene was a RAPE--a la David in TotBT), but it just straightup NEVER happened. Headcanon much?
As for abuse, BOTH the movie AND the show actually REMOVED/SOFTENED a lot of the physical fights--not just the DV b/t Loustat, but also the child abuse against Claudia, where Lestat often tried to hurt her & Louis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We all squee at how cute it was that Claudia & her Daddy Lou shared a coffin, but neither the film nor the show mentioned that it was actually LESTAT who told her to sleep in Lou's coffin in the book--cuz it came with a THREAT against her. And Les threatened her A LOT:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis had to get between Les & Claudia & fight Lestat off of her--even the most graphic fight Loustat had b4 she was turned was still over Claudia.
Tumblr media
Which was why it wasn't surprising that the big fight in Ep5 was also over Claudia, as Lestat attacked her and Louis had to get in the middle & fight him off. Sure, it's tweaked on the show, and framed more explicitly as spousal issues, but it's not purely a headcanon that came from thin air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The show is ELEVATING the source material. Some people DON'T want another 1700s slaveowning plantation antebellum vampire universe; don't want subtext; and want to see things from the book EXPANDED on in fresh new ways.
Claudia's backstory is "made up" cuz she never had one in ANY of the books! Louis' family dynamics are expanded but they're NOT changed--Paul & Louis' sister are BRIEFLY in the books, but AMC stays faithful to Paul's religiosity and Louis loving his sister, while giving them more space to be fully fledged and absolutely amazing & complex characters who are only ENRICHED by the show--Paul was only in ONE episode and he made a massive impact on the fandom.
This is an adaptation--to adapt means to CHANGE. What point is there in saying "they shouldn't have changed so much" and then claiming you liked the show, meanwhile complaining about everything that they made better?
Am I the only one who feels like the AMC iwtv is basically just a fanfic?
It's really cool and I loved watching the series but I couldn't help but think about how this all feels like someone's headcannons for the Fandom.
For example:
Claudia's age
What business louis ran
Louis family dynamics
them making up Claudia's backstory
Lestat... like, why did they make him so much of a typical evil man in this story? They didn't need to make him an abuser. I know he's a bad guy, but like this whole series seemed so out of character for him.
Though I did enjoy:
Finally making it gay
Costuming
What really bothered me was the fact it was set like Louis lived in the early 1900s when he really lived in the late 1700s.
Im not saying i didn't like the AMC series take on the book but i feel like they shouldn't change so much.
I did love watching it and am excited to watch the new season when it comes out.

City of Heavenly Fire - Cassandra Clare
( The mortal instruments - book 6/6 )
8th April 2023
"... Temper us in the fire, and we grow stronger. When we suffer, we survive."
Ty looked at him blankly. He knew what "I love you" meant, and he knew it was good, but he didn't understand why it was an explanation for anything.
"Well, what kind of thing does make you feel calm and peaceful?" ... "Killing demons," he said. "A good clean kill is very relaxing. ..." ... "No killing," Jordan said. "We're trying to make you feel peaceful. Blood, killing, war, those are all non-peaceful things. Isn't there anything else you like?" "Weapons," said Jace. "I like weapons." "I'm starting to think we have a problematic issue of personal philosophy here." ... Jordan looked at him levelly. "So you're saying that what brings you peace is war."
Alec ... staring at the screen of his phone with an expression of intense concentration. Jace ... "I've heard that if you stare at those things enough, they'll ring." "He's been texting Magnus," said Isabelle, ... "I haven't," Alec said automatically. "Yes, you have," said Jace, ... "And calling. I can see your outgoing calls." "It's his birthday," Alec said, ... "I didn't want him to think that I didn't-to think that I forgot." "You're pining," said Jace. Alec shrugged. "Look who's talking. 'Oh, I love her. Oh, she's my sister. Oh why, why, why-'" .... Jace leaned over and grabbed the phone out of his parabatai's hand. ... With a decisive move he snapped the phone in half. ... "There." Alec looked down at the shattered pieces in disbelief. "You BROKE my PHONE." Jace shrugged. "Guys don't let other guys keep calling other guys. Okay, that came out wrong. Friends don't let friends keep calling their exes and hanging up. Seriously. You have to stop." Alec looked furious. "So you broke my brand-new phone? Thanks a lot." ... "You're welcome."
"It smells like heartbreak in here," said Jace. "That's the Chinese food." Magnus threw himself onto the sofa ...
... look at her with thinly veiled hostility. They always did, as if who she was and what she represented made them almost unable to see her.
... the sharp edges of their personalities rubbing against each other, causing sparks.
Now the waiting was over. Now the war would start.
... she had steel in her veins and she was meant to be strong. Even if her parents were not there to see it, she would be strong for them.
... let the blood spill down instead of tears.
... hostage material ...
... she was too young to have so many ghosts.
"I'm the one who stabbed Sebastian in the heart. ..." ... "Are you sure you didn't miss the heart?" Robert demanded, ... It was Julian who answered. "Emma doesn't miss," ... "I know where the heart is," Emma said, stepping back from Julian and casting a look of anger-more than anger, hurt-at the Consul and the Inquisitor. "But I don't think you do."
"Heroes aren't always the ones who won," ... "They're the ones who lose, sometimes. But they keep fighting, they keep coming back. They don't give up. That's what makes them heroes."
"... Sebastian's basically invulnerable now, ... Glorious could have done it because of the heavenly fire, but currently the only source of heavenly fire is. . ." "Jace," Clary said grimly. "... So what's their plan, hitting Sebastian over the head with Jace until he passes out?" "Brother Zachariah said pretty much the same thing," Jace said. "Maybe with less sarcasm."
"... family isn't blood. It's the people who love you. The people who have your back. ..."
... longing for the physical reassurance of closeness, ...
"We work through this together, remember? No shutting me out. No epic sulks." "I was figuring I could sulk for Idris in the next Olympics," Jace said, ... "You and Alec could go for pair sulking," said Clary with a smile. "You'd get the gold."
Magnus was deep in thought. "My mind was on other things." "Whatever it is, don't do it!" said Catarina. "It's a bad idea." "And why do you say that?" "Because they're the only kind you have," she said. "... If you are planning to become a pirate again, it's a bad idea." "I don't repeat my mistakes," Magnus said, offended. "You're right. You make all new and even worse mistakes," Catarina told him. "Don't do it, whatever it is. Don't lead a werewolf uprising, don't do anything that might accidentally contribute to the apocalypse, and don't start your own line of glitter and try to sell it at Sephora." "That last idea has real merit," Magnus remarked.
"Don't throw it-please, please don't throw it-oh, God, he threw it," said Julian in a resigned voice as a wedge of potato flew across the room, narrowly missing his ear.
"That's what happens when you fall. Everything that was bright about you becomes dark. As bright as you once were, that's how evil you become. It's a long way to fall."
She was tired of pretending everything was all right.
... temporarily deprived of vocabulary.
"... Nice pajamas, by the way." Clary looked down at herself. She was wearing a pair of flannel pajamas, too short in the leg and tight in the chest, with fire trucks on them. Luke raised an eyebrow. "I think those were mine when I was a kid." "You can't seriously tell me there wasn't anything else you could have put me in." "If you insist on trying to get yourself killed, I insist on being the one who chooses what you wear while you recover," Jocelyn said with a tiny smirk. "The pajamas of vengeance," Clary muttered.
... someone who knew all the best and worst parts of his soul.
"Have you ever felt that your heart contained so much that it must surely break apart?"
"Weapons, when they break and are mended, can be stronger at the mended places," ... "Perhaps hearts are the same."
Robert reached into his jacket and drew out a crucifix. ... he held it up between himself and Simon. ... Simon reached out and plucked the cross out of Robert's hand. "Wrong religion," he said. Helen made a whistling noise under her breath.
"... she was an angel once, Lilith." "What's your point? Demons are just angels who make poor life decisions?"
... not getting in her space, but always around if she wanted someone to talk to or just sit silently with,...
"... I only have two reactions to bad news. Uncontrollable rage and then a sharp left turn into boiling self-hatred."
... the sight of the now-human Zachariah was a shock. ... He was slender, almost slight, and tall, with a delicate and very human elegance to the shape of his face, and dark hair. He looked perhaps twenty. "Is that," Isabelle said in a low, amazed voice, "Brother Zachariah? When did he get hot?" "Isabelle!" Clary whispered, but Brother Zachariah either hadn't heard her or had great self-restraint.
"You're not fine." "I have to be fine," ... "I have to be. I have to stay in control and not fall apart. ..."
Emma's gaze went from Alec to Jace, curious. "Do you worry about him?" she asked Alec, surprising a laugh out of him. "All the time," he said. "Jace could get himself killed putting his pants on in the morning. Being his parabatai is a full-time job."
"... someone who's your family, but because they want to be, not because they have to be."
"We've parleyed with the Queen before," Jace said. "You went to the Queen when I-when Sebastian had me." "And she tricked us into taking walkie-talkie rings she could listen in on," Simon said. "I wouldn't trust her further than I could throw a medium-sized elephant."
... lovers who, even while embracing, each held a knife to the other's back, ready to stab and betray.
"... feel ancient,"
"It takes more than a strong arm to make a great warrior," ... "It takes a great mind and a heart. ..."
"The wishes of our hearts are weapons that can be used against us. ..."
Alec looked ill. ... Jace grinned and tossed him a stele. "Make a fire," he said. "Cook us a pie or something. This demon-hunting is hungry work." Alec drove the stele into the sand of the pit and began drawing the rune for fire. He appeared to be muttering something about how Jace wouldn't like it if he woke up in the morning with all of his hair shaved off. ... Clary heard Alec yell from behind them, "And your eyebrows, too!" ........ "I did not make a pie," Alec announced ... "I did not make a pie," Alec repeated, gesturing expressively with one hand, "for three reasons. One, because I do not have any pie ingredients. Two, because I don't actually know how to make a pie." ... Jace said warily, "And three?" "Because I'm not your bitch," Alec said, clearly pleased with himself.
"... if people have a spark in them, then yours will burn the brightest I know. ..."
Julian huffed out a laugh. He looked at her searchingly, ... "You know," he said, "there's a way they couldn't send you away from our Institute. They'd have to let you stay." Emma raised an eyebrow. "Let's hear it, genius." "We could-" he started, then stopped, swallowed, and started again. "We could become parabatai." He said it shyly, half-turning his face away from her, so that the shadows partially hid his expression. "Then they couldn't separate us," he added. "Not ever." ... "Jules, being parabatai is a big deal," she said. "It's-it's forever." He looked at her, ... "Aren't we forever?" he asked.
"... I've never been in love with a Shadowhunter, not until Alec. For they have the blood of angels in them, and the love of angels is a high and holy thing." "Is that so bad?" Luke asked. Magnus shrugged. "Sometimes it comes down to a choice," he said. "Between saving one person and saving the whole world. I've seen it happen, and I'm selfish enough to want the person who loves me to choose me. But Nephilim will always choose the world. ..."
"... Love has to be between equals."
"... Maybe I don't care if Dad ever figures it out." Alec threw his head back and sighed. "Oh, God, I'm a cliché," he said in despair. "Why do I care? If Dad decides he hates me because I'm not straight, he's not worth the pain, right?" "Don't look at me," said Jace. "My adoptive father was a mass murderer. And I still worried about what he thought. It's what we're programmed to do. Your dad always seemed pretty great by comparison." "Sure, he likes you," said Alec. "You're heterosexual and have low expectations of father figures." "I think they'll probably put that on my gravestone. 'He Was Heterosexual and Had Low Expectations.'"
"I always thought I was happy being the dark star to your supernova. ..."
... the broken moon.
Alec moved to hug Clary, and Simon and Jace eyed each other warily. Suddenly Simon grinned-that sudden, unexpected grin that flashed out even in the worst of circumstances, ... and held his arms out toward Jace. Jace shook his head. "I don't care if I did just set myself on fire," he said. "I'm not hugging you." Simon sighed and dropped his arms. "Your loss," he said. "If you'd gone in, I would've let you, but honestly it would've been a pity hug."
"... you have truly lived down to my lowest expectations of you."
"... I wanted you more than I wanted to be good. ..."
"Straight people," Alec declared. "Why can't they control themselves?" "It's a mystery," Simon agreed, ...
"Please," Alec said, pulling out his stele. "I can read your face like a very open, very pornographic book. I wish I couldn't." "Is this your way of telling me to shut my face?" Jace inquired. "Remember when you mocked me for sneaking around with Magnus and asked me if I'd fallen on my neck?" Alec asked, ... "This is payback."
... perhaps your parents could always hurt you, no matter how old you were.
"My immortality would be gone," Magnus said. "All the years of my life would come on me at once. I would be unlikely to survive it. Almost four hundred years is quite a lot to take, even if you moisturize regularly."
"I've lived a long time," Magnus said. "So many years, and no, it doesn't feel like enough. I won't lie and say it does. I want to live on-partly because of you, Alec. I have never wanted to live so much as I have these past few months, with you." Alec looked stricken. "We'll die together," he said. "Let me stay at least, with you." "You have to go back. You have to go back to the world." "I don't want the world. I want you," Alec said, and Magnus closed his eyes, as if the words almost hurt.
"... Show them something other than harshness, and you will receive something other than hate in return!"
... sometimes even change for the better felt like a little death.
... rules were for breaking, or bending at the very least.
"... If you never tell anyone the truth about yourself, eventually you start to forget. The love, the heartbreak, the joy, the despair, the things I did that were good, the things I did that were shameful-if I kept them all inside, my memories of them would start to disappear. And then I would disappear."
"No Herondales. No Shadowhunters at all, in fact." "No Shadowhunters?" "None in my heart like you are," Magnus said.
"... They don't like people who are different,"
"... Everyone has the potential to be extraordinary. As long as you have a soul and free will, you can be anything, do anything, choose anything. ..."
"Brother Zachariah," Isabelle said. "Months January through December of the Hot Silent Brother Calendar. What's he doing here?" "There's a Hot Silent Brother Calendar?" said Alec. "Do they sell it?"
"... I didn't have to be perfect; I had to try, and that was good enough."
"There are a hundred trillion cells in the human body," ... "And every single one of the cells in my body loves you. We shed cells, and grow new ones, and my new cells love you more than the old ones, which is why I love you more every day than I did the day before. It's science. And when I die and they burn my body and I become ashes that mix with the air, and part of the ground and the trees and the stars, everyone who breathes that air or sees the flowers that grow out of the ground or looks up at the stars will remember you and love you, because I love you that much."
"Is that why you forgave me? For me, or you?" Alec said, not angry, just curious. "I forgave you because I love you and I hate being without you. I hate it, my cat hates it. And because Catarina convinced me I was being stupid."
"Did Zachariah just pick up Church?" Clary stared in astonishment. Zachariah was holding the cat, who had gone boneless, his tail curled around the former Silent Brother's arm. "That cat hates everybody!" Tessa gave a small smile. "I wouldn't say everybody." .......... "Has anyone seen Church?" said a voice in her ear. ... "I think Zachariah just stole our cat. I swear I saw him putting Church into the backseat of a car." "There's no way," said Jace, appearing beside Clary; ... "Church hates everyone." "Not everyone," Clary murmured with a smile.
"... There will always be those who want to tell you who you are based on your name or the blood in your veins. Do not let other people decide who you are. Decide for yourself."
"... freedom is not a gift; it is a birthright. ..."
"We are all the pieces of what we remember. We hold in ourselves the hopes and fears of those who love us. As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss."
"Better to love and fear than feel nothing. ..."

City of Ashes Book Quote Rp Meme

Second book in the Mortal Instruments series from Cassandra Clare- feel free to edit quotes or change pronouns
Usually I'm remarkably good-natured. Try me on any day that doesn't end in y.”
“Everything changes in my life, and the world stays the same.”
When you love someone, you don't have a choice. Love takes your choices away.”
"If they need a human sacrifice, you can always offer me. I'm not sure the rest of you qualify anyway.”
"You are mortal; you age; you die, If that is not hell, pray tell me, what is?”
“I never date anyone my cat doesn’t like,”
“He had become a monster. You just couldn't see it...because it wore the face of a friend.”
“Growing up happens when you start having things you look back on and wish you could change “
“If you really love something, you never try to keep it the way it is forever. You have to let it be free to change.”
“I don't want to be a man, I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can't confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead."
“I've heard the word 'fear'. I simply choose to believe it doesn't apply to me.”
“But if you can't tell the truth to the people you care about the most, eventually you stop being able to tell the truth to yourself.”
“You know how the bonds of family are, my lady... They cling as tightly as vines. And sometimes, like vines, they cling tightly enough to kill.”
“I love round tables. They suit me so much better than a square."
"Have you checked? I could kick him if you want.”
“Pain is only what you allow it to be”
“As long as there was coffee in the world, how bad could things be?”
"I'm pure at heart. It repels the dirt.”
"So you're just that friendly with everybody, is that it?”
"It does? Oh - you're being sarcastic. That's a good sign probably.”
"Does he normally just lie on the floor like that without moving?”
"You want to kiss me, don’t you?”
"You can't wait for perfect behavior from everyone. Adults screw up too. Go back to the home and talk to her rationally. Be a man."
"I'm going to get you a dictionary for Christmas this year."
"So you can look up 'fun.' I'm not sure you know what it means.”
“No, I'm just a very naughty boy. I do all sorts of bad things. I kick kittens. I make rude gestures at nuns.”
“Is standing by the window muttering about blood something he does all the time?"
“It looks to me like you‘re using a wall to prop you up. that’s not my definition of ‘standing.’”
“I didn't say he was dating you, but funny that you knew just what I meant, isn't it?"
"I didn't betray you, idiot."
“Somebody's girlfriend, Somebody's sister, somebody's daughter. All these things I never knew I was before, and I still don't really know what I am.”
“It was like a bad movie except he didn’t actually twirl his mustache.”
“I was alive when the Dead Sea was just a lake that was feeling a little poorly.”
“Is he really waking us up at this ungodly hour just to prove his love to you or something? Couldn’t he have called? mundane men are such twits.”
you live in my head all the time”
“Pain is only what you allow it to be”
“Fate is never fair. You are caught in a current much stronger than you are; struggle against it and you'll drown not just yourself but those who try to save you. Swim with it. and you'll survive”
“I can only assume that mortal emotions amuse you because you have none of your own.”
He'd pick a fight with a Mack truck if the urge took him.”
"If I made a joke about just dropping in, would you write me off as a cliché?”
"He's terrified I'll tell everyone that he's always wanted to be a ballerina.”
“You might want to lie down, I find that it helps when the crushing sense of horrible realization sets in.”
"Mostly extinct is NOT EXTINCT ENOUGH."
you don't really get to choose your insulting nickname.”
"Sometimes he sits on the couch and does it.”
"I know. Everytime you almost die, I almost die myself.”
“There's no need to clarify my finger snap, the implication was clear in the snap itself.”
"He's quoting Dungeons and Dragons, Ignore him.”
“I'll just have them change the entry in the demonology textbook from 'almost extinct' to 'not extinct enough for him. He prefers his monsters really, really extinct.' Will that make you happy?”
"Why would I have a spider? Do I look like someone who would collect them?"
"You mean father. I despise this modern habit of calling one's parents by their names."
“I'm not sure there's such thing a thing as a normal life.”
“They confused beauty with innocence and harmlessness.”
"What I want to call you is a hell of a lot more unprintable than your name."
“Mom. I have something to tell you. I’m undead. Now, I know you may have some preconceived notions about the undead. I know you may not be comfortable with the idea of me being undead. But I’m here to tell you that undead are just like you and me … well, okay. Possibly more like me than you.”
Desire is not always lessened by disgust…And as my words bind my magic, so you can know the truth. If she doesn’t desire your kiss, she won’t be free.”
'I thought you could use the rest. Besides, you were sleeping like the dead. You even drooled,'On my shirt.'
"Honestly if you don't start utilizing a bit of your natural feminine superiority, I just don't know what I'll do with you.”
“You live in my head all the time."
“The next thing I knew I was listening to five people shouting. What was that all about, anyway?”
“I keep thinking about blood, I dream about it. Wake up thinking about it. Pretty soon I'll be writing morbid emo poetry about it.”
“Desire is not always lessened by disgust. Nor can it be bestowed, like a favor, to those most deserving of it. And as my words bind my magic, so you can know the truth. If she doesn’t desire his kiss, she won’t be free.”
“He'd felt like a jack-o-lantern for the past few days, as if his guts had been yanked out with a fork and dumped in a heap while a grinning smile stayed plastered on his face.”
"But you can pretend I did if it makes you feel better. So, first order of business is what?”
Because I foresee many romantic picnics in our future. You, drinking a virgin pina colada. Me, drinking the blood of a virgin.”
“Only mundanes say they're sorry when what they mean is "I share your grief,
“Because you’re lying to me. And you’re lying to yourself.”
“Don’t be with him, don’t want him, don’t go with him. Be with me. Want me. Stay with me. I don’t know how to be without you.”
“Sometimes you don't have to search out danger, sometimes danger finds you”
“Why does it take girls so long to shower?”
“Why should I tell you everything about how I feel when you never tell me anything? It's like banging my head on a wall, except at least if I were banging my head on a wall, I'd be able to make myself stop. “
"You always make me feel so welcome.”
“You are mortal. You age, you die. If that is not hell, pray tell me, what is?”
“I’m not unsympathetic. But do you like me? Because this being gay business doesn’t mean you can just throw yourself at any guy and it’ll be fine because he’s not a girl. There are still people you like and people you don’t.”
“When I was a little kid, I realized that if you say any word over and over fast enough, it loses all its meaning.”
“People fell in love, and lost, and moved on. He didn’t know why he couldn’t. He didn’t know why he didn’t even want to. All he knew was that whatever he had to owe to Hell or Heaven for this chance, he was going to make it count.”
“You have to give everyone ugly motives for everything they do, because ugly motives are all you understand.”
“Hate is nothing when weighed against survival.”
"And Madonna wants me as a backup dancer on her next world tour.”
“There's nothing wild about me. I'm a solid middle-aged man."
"Except that once a month you turn into a wolf and go tearing around slaughtering things,"
"It could be worse, men my age have been known to purchase expensive sports cars and sleep with supermodels.”
“To draw something is to try to capture it FOREVER, if you really love something, you never try to keep it the way it is forever. You have to let it be free to change”
“What you're blaming yourself for is being who you are. And that's no one's fault and nothing you can change.”
“I've screwed everything up royally. I remember you saying that growing up happens when you start having things you look back on and wish you could change.”
“He will get through this, even if he thinks he won't.”
“Well, I hate to tell you this, but your friend is an asshole."
n that blond head of yours to find out the truth, I suggest you cool your temper. And I know just where you can do that best.”
“What they had between them was still as fragile as flickering candle flame, as delicate as eggshell - and he knew that if it shattered, if he somehow let it break and be destroyed, something inside him would shatter too, something that could never be fixed.”
“Not himself, who was more of a cross between a panther and a demented elf.”
“We seem to be trapped in an episode of One Life to Waste,”
“I can't believe you know someone named Freaky Pete,
“Don't you hate it? Not ever saying how you really feel?”

Note
Well, this is an interesting attempt at fandom history revision.
Cassandra Clare was a very popular author in Harry Potter fan circles in the early 2000s, and there were a few scandals she was involved in, such as the Msscribe scandal, but the major issue here is that she is claiming her books are not and were never influenced by her Harry Potter fanfiction. That is an easy claim to debunk
The Mortal Instruments was a fanfiction published by Cassandra Clare under a pen name on livejournal in 2004. It was a Ron/Ginny fanfiction and, besides the name being reused for the published TMI series in 2007, the themes of incest present in the fanfiction are prevalent in City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass.
However, the fanfiction that people most often point to when discussing the similarities between Clare's published work and her fanfiction is The Draco Trilogy. This series has a very heavy parallel between her version of Draco Malfoy and the TMI character of Jace. The scene about Jace/Draco killing a falcon for instance, is almost word-for-word the same in both versions. Other than that, the character traits and personalities of both Draco in The Draco Trilogy and Jace in The Mortal Instruments are extremely similar.
Of course, none of this actually makes Cassandra Clare someone who published fanfiction with merely a few name changes and an alternate universe setting. There are simply a large amounts of parallels that may be noticed between her various fanfictions and her published work.
All of that aside, the genuine issue with Cassandra Clare and alleged use of other, non-original material is the various plagiarism she has been accused of over the years: from her plagiarizing material to use in The Draco Trilogy, most notably material from Pamela Dean, to most of her notably witty one-liners and sense of humour being lifted word for word from other sources.
Simply put, her claim that "none of the characters in Mortal Instruments are based on any characters in any fanfiction I ever wrote" are dubious at best and outright untrue at worst. Clare's written versions of characters like Ginny and Draco do not bear much resemblance to their canon Harry Potter characters, but that doesn't mean she did not use those same templates for Clary and Jace. Regardless of how canon-compliant her fanfiction was to its source material, her published books borrow heavily from her fic, which has been accused of plagiarism to the point where her Fanfiction.net account was blacklisted in 2001.
If you want sources, I would suggest starting on the Fanlore pages for Cassandra Claire and her associated fanfiction.
tl;dr Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series draws heavily on her fanfiction background, and she has been involved in plagiarism claims in the past, mostly what would be referred nowadays as "filing off the serial numbers." Because she did this with her fanon interpretation of characters like Ginny and Draco rather than true, canon-compliant versions, she claims that her TMI series isn't in any way inspired by her fanfiction which isn't true at all - she lifts scenes and dialogue wholesale and repackages them. Also her inclusion of Tessa is another smokescreen - the major issues of repackaging fanfiction revolve around the first three books of the TMI series and the characters present there, not The Infernal Devices.
Hey Cassie! I know TMI was a Harry Potter fanfiction and i really want to know who the characters was in Harry Potter's world. Can you tell? You inspire me so much, i'm a brazilian ficwriter and is really awesome know that you started with fanfics. Thanks, love you.
The Mortal Instruments was not a Harry Potter fanfiction.
I did write Harry Potter fanfiction, that much is absolutely true. I understand that we live in a world now where people often “file the serial numbers off” their fanfiction and publish it with the names changed. Fifty Shades of Gray is the most famous example. After is another, and so is Beautiful Bastard, and you can find people talking about planning to file off the numbers and publish everywhere now. In every case those fanfics were an AU, or alternate universe, story. Edward Cullen is a billionaire, Harry Styles is a college student, Edward Cullen is your boss. I can’t swung a cat on the Tumblers without running across someone talking about pulling their Avengers AU high school fanfiction to change the names and publish it. (“In which Loki is a hockey player and Thor is a hockey stick.”)The publication of Fifty Shades of Gray has made this common and indeed it’s worth noting I never saw this rumor about TMI before 50 Shades was released.
Anyway, I did not write an alternate universe fanfiction. I wrote a story about Harry Potter who was sixteen years old and went to Hogwarts and visited Hogsmeade and lived in Gryffindor and had all the same friends and the exact same magic system with wands and Latin spell names and thestrals and what have you. I mean some things were different — Draco was in love with Hermione, etc. — but I could not possibly have turned the fanfic into anything publishable without stripping out the magic system and replacing it, changing the location, making all the characters completely different, changing their relationships, and changing the plot, because the fanfiction story I wrote (“Let Us Defeat Voldemort, Using Wands”) would not make any sense outside the realm of the Harry Potter universe.
I can’t answer your question, because none of the characters in Mortal Instruments are based on any characters in any fanfiction I ever wrote. When I have run across this rumor I have noticed people cannot even agree on which character they think was which. Simon is often Harry because he has glasses (Simon may also be Clark Kent.). Ron is Sebastian—eeesh, Ron, how could you? (I wrote Ron as a perfectly nice guy as far as I remember, it was a long time ago, but you’d think I’d recall him being the villain.) Alec is also Harry because, dark hair. Not sure how Simon and Alec are both Harry when they are nothing like him or each other but—go with me here! Clary is Ginny because she has red hair. They have nothing in common either but, you know, hair. Tessa is Hermione because she likes books. I don’t recall Hermione liking fiction, but hey, a female-shaped person who likes book-shaped objects, pretty rare, am I right?  I mean, this is a game you could play with literally any book. “Percy Jackson is Harry Potter because they have black hair and green eyes and are heroes.” It is not how books work, though.
In a post-50-Shades world there is no harm in saying “My books are rewritten fanfiction” if they are, but — they are not. Having some jokes or the same sense of humor in common in two stories doesn’t make one thing based on another thing. It just makes them written by the same person. I understand why people want to think that it is true that The Mortal Instruments was once Harry Potter fanfiction — either because it is encouraging, if you like fanfic, or because it is a handy way to dismiss the books, if you don’t. It is, however, not true. I don’t even know how you’d get a book series about demons and angels and demon-fighters and seraph blades and alternate dimensions and Downworlder politics out of a fanfic based completely in the canon of Harry Potter (circa book four) that contained none of those things. As rumors go, this one is silly and harmless. But it is also false.

tell me about ouat's merlin <33 I know he's hot and a cunt but is there anything else going on there...
he is SO. i know i say this about every random once upon a time character whether they were in a hundred episodes or just one, but he is literally my close friend…. he is the reason i never wanted to see bbc merlin before this year (cassandra clare’s fault she broke me) and he is the reason season 5 is sooooo slay serve cunt pussy etc. basically his deal is that he was literally just some random dude in a desert somewhere (and it’s like are we meant to assume that desert became camelot? via merlin’s magic? we see him turn sand into grass and then we cut to him in the place that would eventually became camelot. is once upon a time implying that england was once a desert. i love this show) and he stumbles upon the holy grail and drinks from it and becomes an immortal sorcerer. and then some unidentified amount of time later he meets nimue (my best friend. she’s the most character of all time. she became evil because she was a feminist. like honestly work) and they fell in love (pre-her turning evil. one could say he turned her evil by being a kind of annoying boyfriend. i won’t say that. but. like i mean he was a little annoying and then she did turn evil so) and he wanted to cut away his immortality to be with her for one single lifetime and she wanted to become immortal and be with him forever (which. slay) and they came up with this insane convoluted plan to turn the holy grail into a sword that would be able to magically cut away merlin’s magic and immortality (in essence cut away his fate, which is something ouat did the very next season when they introduced the shears of destiny, and thinking about this specific thing further will cause my brain to hemorrhage so). BUT. before they could do that nimue secretly also drank from the holy grail and became immortal (which. the show literally says when it’s introduced that the “gods” (idk who the Gods are supposed to be within this show’s mythology. the greek ones ig given the rest of season five)(bizarre to imply that the greek gods created merlin via the holy grail. i love television!) choose who gets to drink from the grail and who gets its gifts and if you’re not Worthy you die. so clearly nimue was like. cosmically meant to live as merlin’s dark counterweight forever. which makes me feel insane sorry i haven’t even finished explaining the backstory) anyway so she does this and then what happens is hard to explain but she uses her magic to kill someone, and as per the ouat mythology, that makes her Dark, and she becomes the first Dark One. and merlin takes the holy grail sword (excalibur) and breaks it in half and makes the tip of it into a dagger that her soul is magically bound to and it lets him control her and stop her from i guess generally wreaking havoc and the like
AND THEN. she gets the dagger back and she turns him into a tree for like 300 years or something before our girl emma eventually gets him out. which like. totally insane that nimue as the first dark one was the one that trapped him and emma as the last dark one freed him. what if we were cosmically bound together and only you could hurt me and only you could save me. haha. 😐😐😐😐. and then he died because hook (as a dark one. meaning he was using nimue’s power, because all the dark ones magic comes from her)(quick explainer the dark one can only be one person at a time they have to kill the previous one to become the next one it’s a whole thing. emma however is a weird special case and her and hook were the dark ones at the same time and also they didn’t die) crushed his heart. (he’s not dead tho no matter what the show wanted me to think. he was just taking a little break from like. life. he’s out there tho. ESPECIALLY when you remember that the dark one power still exists meaning nimue still exists and her power doesn’t exist without him because they’re linked. whatever. he’s out there the writers just forgot to bring him back because they ran out of time and they had to do other stuff. like aladddin <3 and the count of monte cristo for some reason. and fucked up hansel and gretel)
anyway his whole deal was built up so much in season four with the introduction of the Sorcerer being some all powerful guy who no one has ever met except presumably his apprentice who was this old man that ana from frozen accidentally turned into a rat one time it was a whole thing. anyway they spent season four being all ohhhh The Sorcerer…. he’s sooo powerful…. he created the Book and he chooses The Author….. and then season five comes around and it’s just some cunt who got turned into a tree because he was such a simp for his evil fiancée. and he’s a deadbeat pseudo father figure. and he’s my friend <3

Some very good points are made about the flaws of Sebastian Morgenstern’s characterization. My challenge here is that I’m going to try to make them make sense in-universe.
His abrupt shift of views on Clary from each book
In CoGhe is disappointed by her, in CoLS he was neutral, in CoHF he is obsessed. Well, for all of CoFA he’s been dead, and dying might change your view on things. Also, Clary killed their father, making them the last Morgensterns left. Beggars can’t be choosers, right? In addition, Sebastian ACTED neutral in CoLS. Who knows what’s really going on inside his head. Perhaps he was assuming Clary was going to become an endarkened, so he didn’t have to show his hand in how much he actually wanted her. But when things failed at the battle of burren, he was forced to employ desperate measures.
Remember, the key thing is that Sebastian is lonely. He’s projecting everything onto Clary. Clary herself has very little to do with his obsessions. He’s narrowed in on her only because she’s his sister, and he doesn’t understand the differences in the types of love one can have for another. Familial, platonic, romantic, sexual, healthy, toxic, it looks all the same to him. He believes she’s the best shot he has to not be lonely anymore. And we see how much he is willing to do in order to get want he wants.
It was the demon blood that made him evil
Listen, it’s quite clear that Cassandra Clare doesn’t have a PhD in psychology. Therefore, none of her characters know a lick either. I just wanted to say that.
No, it wasn’t the demon blood that made him “evil”. My best guess is that when Lilith said ‘burns out humanity’ what she really meant was it would cause a lack of a morality, inability to have empathy, urges to cause harm, sadistic tendencies, etc. And that in it of itself doesn’t make you evil.
It was how Valentine raised him that made him “evil”. Had Sebastian, with the same amount of demon blood in him, grown up in a loving environment instead and gotten psychological help he would’ve turned out astronomically better.
So that leads to Sebastian getting stabbed with heavenly fire. I think what it does is it turns you into the best version of yourself. So for him that would indeed entail no demon blood, but that was just one of the many things it changed. And because the best version of himself was so far away from who he was as Sebastian, he only lasted for a couple minutes.
His cartoony demeanor
We only ever see one side of him on-page. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have more sides, it’s just that the author never showed them to us. We never see him alone in the middle of the night, unable to sleep. We never see him in an emotionally vulnerable state, losing his composture. We never know what he’s really thinking when he’s acting all evilly arrogant.
Speaking of which, why is he acting like that, though? Why is that his go to demeanor? Why is it generic and cartoony? Because that’s the only persona he knows how to put on as armor. If he knew of a cooler one, he’d be doing it. Also, maybe YOU think it’s silly, but I think if one pulls off slimy big dick swagger correctly, it can be pretty badass.
Thule version was hollow
Yeah he was. Because he is a hollow shell of a person pretending he’s all dandy when he isn’t. Did it seem rather easy for Emma to kill him? Maybe he wasn’t trying that hard.
