An older Leo Valdez gets really into welding specifically, because he discovers he can use his fingertips to do so. It’s a task that he can focus on and be meticulous about without it numbing his mind after only a half hour. It's something he looks forward to improving on, different from the ADHD mindless tinkering that usually just subconsciously comes together perfectly when he builds.

This new skill allows him to build more sturdy machines, and he can try out and develop new techniques to fit each build. He picks up welding gigs and side-jobs (because good welders actually make bank) as he travels the world with Calypso.

(And really, would you think Leo and Calypso of all people would be the kind to settle down? Leo likes exploring when he’s not all alone, and Calypso hasn’t seen the world in centuries.)

Another one of his goals is to, at some point, get a diving license and try his hand at underwater welding (which pays huge amounts of cash money). But before he even considers it, he forces himself to iris message Percy and ask if a demigod who isn’t a child of Poseidon would get swarmed by an oceanic swim team of monsters down in the sea. It’s a mixed answer, and Percy gives him a few tips. It’s hard talking to Percy sometimes, what with his girlfriend’s opinion on him, but Percy makes it pretty hard to hate him when he’s just an all-around great dude.

Calypso, being a sorceress, can manipulate the mist well enough (it’s not really her expertise, but she figures it out). So before each job of his, she’ll make it look like he’s using actual tools instead of his hands. She usually has to stay home the days he works to conserve energy to keep up the illusion, but it’s worth a day of inactivity because with the money they make, plus their savings, he really only has to work maybe a few times a week. (They don’t need tons of money or stuff to be happy when they have each other. They’ve always been “I could just make that myself” type of people.) Calypso likes to be busy, but since she can’t really get a job that requires identification (this chick prob doesn’t have a ssn or nothin) she often finds herself helping at soup kitchens and homeless shelters.

(Also, kind of unrelated, but I imagine them to be a camper/trailer type of couple. Driving around, traveling, cooking really good food, and building machines together out of the back of their well-loved pickup truck for fun and extra cash. There are rows and rows of garden boxes on the top of the trailer, and plant pots everywhere in the trailer secured down by Leo so they don’t fall.)

I hate how people accuse Percy of forgetting about Calypso. He made the gods promise to free her and he was under the impression that they would.

It makes sense that Calypso would be upset/angry with him because she's isolated and didn't know if he even tried to help her after he left. That makes sense to me.

But the gods went back on their promise. And everyone holds Percy responsible. He was just a kid, freshly turned 16. Like what was he expected to do? Babysit the gods to make sure they held up their end of the deal? He shouldn't be expected to do that.

Not to mention even if he would've thought to check up on Calypso, he spent 6 months of his sixteenth year with no memories of his past. He literally had no way to help her. Hera stole months from him.

ik moving to new rome is gonna kick start that too bc i feel like chb everyone’s gotten used to him yk everyone’s like “sigh there’s percy and his beautiful face and nice laugh and good morals and self sacrificing ways sigh annabeth sure is lucky love those two together tbh”

but now they’re being introduced to all these new ppl who have to learn that percy is simply percy and bro is wifed up

why I don’t like CaLeo.

first of all. Their relationship in a whole I dislike.

Calypso is a multi thousand year old goddess older than Apollo himself.

and I’ve seen people say before if I have a problem with the age gap then I should also dislike SolAngelo.

but Nico is mentally his age, physically his age. He was born in 1930s but he’s not actually that old other then in technical terms.

calypso is only in a teenagers body. She lived all that time. She’s SA’d a middle aged man (Odysseus) she’s really damn old. She’s a goddess. That’s pedophilia, at least in mental age terms.

then, Leo shouldn’t have gotten in a relationship. He still has to work on himself. He shouldn’t need a relationship to feel valid.

and neither should calypso. She also needs to learn how to work on herself. And not fall in love with every man she’s met on her island.

that’s why I dont like Caleo.

I just finished ToA last night and here are some things I don't see nearly enough people talking about, specifically about the end of ToA so if you haven't read it this is your spoiler warning!!!

• Apollo not feeling right in his godly form and uncomfortable around the other olympians (not including Artemis)

• LEO CALLING JO "MOM" 🥺 (and Emmie and Jo in general) BUT HE HAS TWO MOMS NOW I LITERALLY STARTED CRYING ABOUT THIS LAST NIGHT

• Apollo visiting Percy and Annabeth in New Rome!!!

• AND they talk about Jason!!!!!! Annabeth cried herself to sleep

• honestly Apollo's whole battle with Python that shit was so cool

leo deserved better. he deserved so, so much BETTER. i mean, he fucking sacrificed his LIFE to save the world, and yes, even though he was always meant to come back, there was always that lingering chance the plan WOULDN'T work out.

but what did he get when he finally made his way back home? hugs? maybe a huge welcome home party? NO. instead, everyone got into a fucking LINE and proceeded to hit him, WITH FULL FORCE, immediately upon his arrival back home.

and then there's the issue with calypso. i just HATED the way she treated him in the dark prophecy. like, he was the only dude who BOTHERED to come back for her. he gave her the chance for a new life. but instead, she COMPLAINS about how leo "treats every problem like a machine" when he's working SO hard to fix things.

then later, at the end of the series, we find calypso has become counsellor for a band camp pretty far away, and we learn that part of the reason was "so she could take some time away from him". i mean, what the hell is up with THAT?!

leo's done so many amazing things for so many people, but just how many times do you hear him praised? like honestly, he deserves someone who loves him unconditionally, someone who showers him with love, someone who can fill up the gaps his mother's death left in him. and that someone is NOT calypso.

it’s so crazy to me that nico’s “final attempt at getting percy to like him” is a gift/thing that has literally nothing to do with what percy as a person would’ve liked to see from nico

like nico getting him to the styx and telling him to get in is the pinnacle of nico seeing percy as a warrior or hero above all else

in hoo nico talks abt finding percy cheesy and goofy (talking abt traits other than being a hero) but above all else he will always be a hero to nico which he again shows by talking abt how strong percy is when he falls into tartarus

on the other side in tlo when annabeth is also in a kind of last ditch effort to prove herself she does exactly what shows percy that she’s literally it LMAO

she takes a dagger for him (even tho he’s like why tf wld you do that) she literally mirrors his fatal flaw back at him showing deathly and devoted loyalty like he has many times to her

and when their in tartarus and either one of them is getting beaten down they don’t talk abt fighting or winning they talk abt the future and abt living a full life (one outside of being hero’s)

i love being able to see when people will and won’t work well together even on such a small subconscious level
