Ok, so I’m reading the Mark of Athena right now, and something I feel like people don’t talk about is how thoughtful Leo is?? Like, people talk a lot about him, but they don’t really talk about all the little (or big) things that he does for other people.

Like, in the lost hero, the way he not only had food covered, but also had specifically prepared something for his friends specific needs and preferences on short notice without being asked to really stuck out to me as someone with a lot of food related issues. Not a lot of people notice preferences like that, let alone remember to accommodate for them. And I highly doubt he be his friends have had in depth conversations about food preferences (though they might have, idk), so that means he just knows this from observation and caring about his friends. And the little things he added to the Argo II like the way the rooms automatically set to the persons preferred temperature or how he put the images of camp halfblood in the lounge to try and make it feel more like home. Like, yes they have magic and he can do stuff like that kind of easily, not a lot of people would have thought about it. They would just focus on making the ship working and livable, but he took the comfort of everyone into account and did his best to accommodate their comfort. Like, yes, he’s an entertaining character, and there’s a lot of really interesting things to talk about when it comes to his life and everything, but I feel like we need to appreciate his thoughtfulness, cuz he’s doing way more than what is asked of him and he deserves appreciation

we totally missed out on an annabeth + leo friendship and it makes me so sad. everyone subjects annabeth to the "smartest on ship" stereotype but leo is a strong contender for smartest. maybe second smartest i think i'm biased.

but anyways i NEED these two nerds to become friends immediately. they both have the same autistic loser energy in my head.

and if anyone's gonna come after me and tell me leo isn't smart i'm gonna shut you down coz that dude was doing insane college level algebra (or something of that nature) at eight years old, PLUS this dude built the ENTIRE argo II. (in the graphic novels he has help from the Hephaestus cabin and stuff but it was never really clear in the original books themselves how much assistance he got. regardless of all that though he WAS the one who designed all of it sooo..) and anyways there's tons of other references of him being super smart. never hand this kid an archimedes sphere.

I like my characters messy. Messed up, even. Unhinged. Morally ambiguous. I like Piper McLean because she steals a BMW. Because she's a pick-me girl at first who realizes that she is, in fact, exactly the person she says she's not. I like her because of her messy, weird, imperfect relationship with Jason Grace. I like her because she moves on so quickly that she feels a little guilty, but not guilty enough to get another girl's tongue out of her mouth. I like her because she does not know who she is, or what she's doing. I like her because she has everything and loses everything but manages to still have what matters most. I like her because she does shit she shouldn't do like charmspeak her friends. I like her because she's MESSY. Because so much of fandom HATES her. Because she's weird as hell and she doesn't know what to label herself, so she's like, FUCK that I'm kissing girls! I love her for it, actually. I like Leo Valdez for much the same reasons. I don't like him because he's funny-- I like him because his sense of humor is shitty asf. It has two modes: stupid and super dark. It communicates something very clear: This "weirdo scrawny boy" is actually wicked smart and hella capable, but he only shows it when he needs to. I like him because his past is so fucking traumatic and yet he's the one smiling the most often. That is UNHINGED. That is CREEPY-ASS behavior. My boy is chatting with his new best friend, a TABLE, while he sleep-deprives and starves himself, only to come back out of self-imposed isolation saying shit like copacetic. I mean, who does that? I like Jason Grace because he's the fucking blankest slate of all time, so much so that fandom HATED him. He was their boring white boy. And then, boom, Riordan kills him off, and suddenly Jason Grace is BACK in fandom. But he's been the same guy the whole time. Awkwardly going with any situation you put him in. Having a freaking IDENTITY CRISIS over the course of five books while readers accuse him of having no identity. He's aloof and he's cold and he's down to earth and he's friendly and warm. He's a walking contradiction. He's a blank slate and yet he's the messiest slate of all time. People HATE the guy because his personality "isn't strong" but meanwhile he doesn't even fucking KNOW what his personality is. He's a MESS! I love the lost trio. Because that's what they are. Freaking LOST. They're teenagers, and they suck sometimes, and they're mean to each other, and they're not great friends, and then they're fucking fantastic all over again. And above all, they're MESSY. In the immortal words of Leo Valdez, "I love you guys"

Rick is so bad with time. He's so... so bad with time. He didn't know how old Luke was when writing the books which is why Luke had a crush on Annabeth because he thought Luke was younger, his timing with Nicos age doesn't make sense, he kept switching Hazels age in SON, and don't get me started on Hazels story in general??

She was birn in 1938 right? Grew up while World War 2 was happening. But for some reason Hazel... died when Wirld War 2 was still happening. At 13. Doing the math, it's wrong. World War 2 ended in 1945. Hazel died in 1951! RICK SUCKS AT TIME, PLEASE GET BETTER AT IT, WTH!!

I think Jason is dramatic enough to get sick when something upsets him. I'm not talking about pretending to root in his bed. I'm talking about fever, vomiting and everything else, just like a whiny dog. When Leo had to go on a long trip without him Jason spent the whole week with a fever. He had an ulcer when his favorite sweet treat after work shift changed the taste
