why has everyone just decided to disregard everything that makes percy interesting?

we are always begging for a main character who is given a life outside of being a main character and then we were given percy jackson, a demigod in the summer, saving the world and looking good doing it, but is also just a kid.

he skateboards and collects them, he listens to punk rock and alternative rock (are they the same thing or is punk rock a sub-genre?) but doesn't dress 'alt' (like thalia) and has anger issues and has been kicked out of multiple schools for said anger issues, some of them being (court-ordered) military schools.

he also has problems with authorities who abuse their power (gabe, the gods, the nypd etc.) and will not hesitate to call you out on your bullshit no matter how powerful and important and feared you are.

but he has morals and doesn't do things without reason. he has a level of maturity and integrity that isn't even present in most adults. he is really smart and gets better grades than annabeth, and is the most considerate person you will ever meet. he is humble and never tries to be the center of attention.

he's not the most optimistic person in the entire world, but he tries to find reasons to be happy in really crappy situations (when they were traversing Tartarus and he was so happy that annabeth was with him that he started smiling).

he is always grateful for everything he has and tries to show genuine interest in all the things that interest his loved ones, even if they bore him to death (like annabeth with her architecture).

and we completely erase that for some reason to make him nothing but 'annabeth chases' boyfriend,' and, well he is her boyfriend, and he's very proud of that fact, but he is his own person as well.

people get really mad when we erase all of annabeth's character to make her nothing more than percy jacksons' girlfriend but we do it to percy all the time.

“well I had a dream last night,” you sigh.

“hm, yeah? about what?”

percy tightly wraps his arms around your waist, keeping you tucked against him as his face goes to your shoulder taking in a large almost comical inhale of your scent. you splay your hands along his upper back to assure he keeps close.

“well it started with me and you and we—”

“I was in your dream? what was I doing… with you?” with feeling his smirk, you don’t really want to respond.

you cut out the part of the dream he would’ve enjoyed hearing and begin from the middle.

“we weren’t doing anything. we were at the dining pavilion and we were eating breakfast—”

“if I may—”

“you may not.”

he nods once. “go on, sweet girl, I’m all ears.”

“you had pancakes with strawberries and I had pancakes with blueberries. you were upset because your strawberries weren’t blue so I offered to make them blue for you.”

“food dye?”

“no. I squeezed the blueberries onto the strawberries and y’know how usually blueberries have red insides? they were blue this time and dyed the entire strawberry.”

you feel percy’s hand rubbing your back in such a soothing mannerism you only wish to curl deeper into him and remain there forever. your brain suddenly feels fuzzy with the affection.

“what happened next?”

“uhmmm…” you bite your lip. you think as hard as humanly possible but his hand so soft and so calloused and so calming and fits so perfectly against your skin like it was made to touch you. “we ate the pancakes.”

“that’s all that happened?” percy’s voice is muffled.

“yeah.”

“that was short.”

“well it got cut short because you woke me up!”

percy pinches your waist. “not on purpose, sweet girl, I’d never do that to you.”

“not on purpose but you have a drooling problem.”

“I’m starting to think you enjoy being covered in my drool. is this a new kink of yours?”

“what— no, perseus!” you tug at his hair.

he shrugs defensively. “just thought I’d ask.”

“maybe.” you pull back not even an inch so you can slide downward and place your index over his mouth. “you should keep your lips glued.”

percy begins to kiss along your finger before taking it into his mouth and beginning to gnaw on it. you remove it quickly and see it covered in his spit. you sigh and take your finger in your own mouth to clean it of his saliva.

only when you began wiping it on the blanket did you realize you had that option the entire time. only after the fact did you realize what percy had been plotting.

I’m thinking about big three kids being influenced by their own powers

Percy being quicker to panic because he accidentally influences his own blood to rush faster. Jason who often feels like he can’t breathe because he’s altering the air pressure around himself constantly, or when he’s flying, he accidentally displaces some of the air in his own lungs and can’t inhale for a second. Thalia afraid of heights because her demigod instincts constantly tell her to take flight, leave the ground, while her human instincts scream she’ll die if she does that. Hazel and Nico both being cold and tired all the time because their bodies have naturally slower heart rates that are VERY difficult to raise. Hazel can’t wear earrings because she accidentally rips them out when she gets stressed. Nico used his powers to heal his own broken bones too often and now when he raises a skeleton, his own bones ache like he’s got arthritis in every joint.

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:

-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings

-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)

-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)

-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)

-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same

-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well

-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped

-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt

-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians

-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be

-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia

-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that

-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told

-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions

-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect

-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think

greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!

with a happy gasp you discard of the snow in your arms and turn around to see the face holding the voice.

“luke! what’re you doing out here?”

“I came to scold you for not wearing a scarf.”

luke walks towards you with a striped scarf, wrapping it around your neck and tugging you closer to him, before wrapping one side over the other.

“there we go,” he murmurs, kissing your forehead, then capturing your lips twice quickly. “what’re you up to with all that snow?”

“making a snow castle.” you shrug. “but it keeps falling apart. the snow isn’t sticky enough.”

“let me see.”

luke releases the you from his arms and crouches down to the small pile of snow you had formed and ultimately got angry with. he takes a handful between his gloved palms.

you take small steps towards him before sitting with your legs beneath you to watch as he handles the snow.

he intricately moves the snow pile, reforming it until it makes a square instead of… whatever you previously had going on.

“how’d you make the snow stick like that?”

luke shrugs. “magic.”

you scowl and place your gloved hands on your lap. “I spent ten minutes trying to make it stick together!”

“you also failed.”

that earns him a slap across the head.

but his working demeanor does not falter until the second story of your snow castle is completed. he sits back to admire his work.

“there we go.”

you huff and cross your arms. “that’s not fair. tell me how you did it.”

“the snow on the bottom is firmer then on top.”

you exhale and scowl. luke reaches out and rubs an un-gloved hand along your bottom and pouting lip.

“I’ll let you make a new one.”

you nip at his finger and discard of your pout. “I don’t want you to help me with this one.”

“I won’t, I’ll just watch.”

you murmur a ‘thank you’ and stand up from the snow. luke follows closely and begins to brush you off from the back of your jacket to your pants before his palms rest on your pink cheeks. his thumb rubs over your skin.

“we should head inside soon though. your cheeks are turning red.”

“I’m fine.”

“okay,” luke whispers. he places a kiss to your frigid forehead. “go build your snowman, pretty girl.”

“thank you, I love you!”

with a swift kiss, there and gone, you rush off.

It was well past midnight, and you had spent the whole day sleeping so u were wide awake now. Percy, on the other hand, had promised he’d only close his eyes for “five seconds,” but that was like, what? 20 minutes ago? He was fast asleep now, face down on the bed, completely unaware of how your body had found its way across his back. You were lying there, tracing the moles on his skin with your fingers, the cool moonlight spilling over both of you.

Your voice was soft, mostly mumbling nonsense, but it didn’t really matter. Percy was asleep—completely out, the steady rise and fall of his chest the only sign he was still with you in any way.

“You know, I bet you’ve never realized how many moles you have…,” you said, your fingers lingering on the ones near his shoulder blade. “It’s kinda like a map on your back. Maybe there’s treasure hidden here. You should look into it.” You giggled to yourself, continuing to trace every tiny mark like you were on some important quest.

You couldn’t help but smile as your fingers moved from one mole to the next, each one a little mark that made him uniquely him. The soft rise and fall of his back beneath you, the warmth of his skin, and the quiet of the night wrapped around the two of you like a cocoon. It was so simple, so comforting. You were here, lying on top of him, enjoying the peacefulness of the moment. Your heart swelled with affection, warmth filling every corner of your chest.

It was moments like this that made everything feel right. You loved him so much, and being with him, in this quiet and tender way, felt like the most natural thing in the world. You thought about how lucky you were to have him, to be able to touch him, to be his. You wanted to kiss him, to say how much you loved him, but instead, you just kept talking—mumbling about the dumbest things, because the moment was perfect just as it was.
