Stardew Valley MBTI x Enneagram: Alex

Following my last post about the Stardew marriage candidates and their MBTI types, I've been learning more about Enneagram, how it pairs with MBTI, and how it changes some of the typical characteristics of each type.

The Enneagram and MBTI complement each other wonderfully, providing greater depth and understanding of how a person interacts with the world [Cognitive Functions] and their motivations why [Core Desire/Core Fear]. So without further ado, here are my thoughts on each marriage candidate's Enneagram paired with their MBTI, starting with Alex.

Alex - ESTP 3w2: “The Ultimate Showman”

“ESTP 3w2 lives for the limelight and adoration. However, there’s more. The ESTP 3w2 is goal-oriented with a touch of generosity. They are the game-changers and dealbreakers. Because they have type 2 as a wing, they also want appreciation for their heroics. They turn the aggressive nature of the ESTP into something more entertaining to watch.” – Personality Hunt

Alex’s Core Desire: To be successful

The core desire of the ESTP 3w2 is to be successful. Alex's dream is to become a professional gridball player -- and enjoy all the fame and fortune that comes with it. He measures his success and sense of self-worth on external admiration and appreciation from others.

ESTPs are known for being blunt and tactless, but 3w2s realize that to help get what they want, being tactful has benefits. This only applies if they want to get close to someone or if it's with someone they respect. With everyone else, they typically don't care.

The combination of Type 3 and ESTP makes them highly self-motivated and goal-oriented. As a result, ESTP 3w2s are true powerhouses of determination who go hard for their beliefs and stop at nothing to achieve their dreams.

"I'm going to be the first professional gridball player from Stardew Valley… There's no doubt in my mind. I already led my school's team to the regional playoffs… Now I'm just training and getting stronger so I can claim my spot on the roster of the Zuzu City Tunnelers. You just wait!

5. More Disciplined

ESTPs aren't the most organized people, but because of the ESTP 3w2s' need to be successful, they are a bit more disciplined than typical ESTPs; However, they still tend to be scatterbrained in other aspects of life.

6. Better Fashion Sense

Due to their primary function [Extroverted Sensing], ESTPs typically have an eye for beauty or aesthetically pleasing things. ESTP 3w2s, however, take their appearance much more seriously than just simple appreciation. Because type 2s and 3s are highly concerned with public appearances and reputation, ESTP 3w2s have a strong sense of fashion.

Examples:

“Did you get new pants? You're doing something right.”

“Did you do something different with your hair? Something keeps grabbing my attention.”

“If my hair wasn't so popular with the ladies, I swear I'd shave it all off in a second.”

"There's some weird people living in this town…like that guy Sebastian. Why does he wear black all the time? I don't get it."

New Weaknesses

1. Loss of Identity/Self-Awareness

ESTP 3w2s are masters at adapting to people's desires and emotions but they also risk losing their sense of self in others. As a result, ESTPs wear a facade for long periods. And when they have to drop the mask, they can't remember who they are.

Examples:

"I've started to realize that… well, that I've been really rude towards you in the past. You know, about going pro and all that. I guess I might not actually be cut out for professional sports… maybe it was just a childish dream… you know? " "Look at all these books. I haven't read a single one. Just the thought of cracking one open makes me nervous. But you can't make a decent living in this world without a brain…I'm worthless…"

2. Need for External Validation

Because ESTP 3w2s are self-image-focused, they highly value motivation and encouragement through external validation - it gives them the drive to keep pushing. The dangerous side is that they can view their accomplishments as less valuable if they don't receive recognition for their efforts. They can fish for compliments or get cranky if they don't feel appreciated. At worst, this can lead to serious self-doubt. But ESTPs are tenacious and will quickly bounce back regardless.

Examples:

"*sniff*... "Oh… Farmer. You saw me crying. ... "So… What are you thinking right now? "Well, there's no sense sitting around sniveling… let's head back to town. "Um… Farmer? Don't tell anyone I was crying. Okay?"

3. Mild/Moderate People-Pleasing

This is especially true if they become competitive or are trying to help someone else achieve their goals alongside their own. Their personal well-being and relationships often suffer as a result.

5. Bad Financial Decisions

ESTPs aren't the best at managing money, and being a 3w2 makes this even worse. Because they want to impress others, they will often make extravagant purchases to look more successful or affluent than they really are. This can also apply if they want to appear helpful to others, giving expensive gifts beyond their financial means.

Examples:

“I got these new shoes yesterday 'cuz my old pair had a brown smudge. I just threw them into the garbage.” "Hey, Farmer. Before you head out…I hate to ask this… but can I have 5,000g? It's for a secret project I'm working on… I know we have a joint bank account, but I thought I should ask anyway."

Conclusion

Though it can be challenging to type Alex [or any fictional character, for that matter] with 100% accuracy, given everything we know about his character and his personal growth throughout the game, I believe is strong evidence to suggest that Alex is an ESTP 3w2.

His Enneagram type 3 desire for fame and recognition, paired with his MBTI cognitive strengths as an ESTP, makes watching his character transform from an arrogant, superficial man with an unhealthy obsession with becoming a professional athlete into a caring, supportive, and devoted friend/partner to the farmer incredibly satisfying. I genuinely cringe SO hard when I see that 16personalities “-A” and “-T” shit. (It’s not even mbti) Like it is a genuine pet peeve. I’m beginning to feel that way about enneagram wings, too, but eh, I feel like wings have more merit. 16p just slapped on a big5 trait onto their glorified big5 test, so now people who don’t know about functions think that the difference between an ENTJ-T and an ENTP-T is one letter. It’s actually, like, A LOT. ENTJ’s use the cognitive functions Te, Ni, Se and Fi. ENTP’s use the cognitive functions Ne, Ti, Fe and Si. Very different. And, like, I don’t wanna go into these people inboxes like “erm ackshully, this this and this” because A) they probably don’t care, and that’s fine. B) they might find it rude, for whatever reason. People don’t like being corrected… I don’t think. C) Ignorantly people who double down just aggravate me more.

AJR is a big one, I could talk for days about AJR. they're one of the only bands I've been to a concert for (very very good concert, very fun, very dramatic, highly recommend, they are clearly showmen, not just musicians, and that makes for entertaining shows). I'm unironically following someone on tumblr who posts ONLY AJR stuff because every time I see the name "AJR" it's like a visceral reaction that makes me grin. ooh, also Twenty One Pilots. I love then. looking forward to their new album

I listen to a lot of broadway. some of my favorites are Be More Chill, Mean Girls, Six, and Titanic the Musical, just to name a few. I love seeing live shows especially- I saw Something Rotten not too long ago, and the Nick was BRILLIANT it. was, admittedly, a high school production, but nonetheless. he danced a lot, even unchoreographed dancing in the background, just like, vibing, and it was so obvious that he was just having a good time and enjoyed being there (the actor, that is, not the character) and I just liked watching him

I love "96000" from "In the Heights" (I think it's only in the movie version, not the musical version? not 100% sure though). ooh this song makes me crazy. this song... ok. I can't talk about this song without being a bit weird about it, but stick with me. this song always makes me think of the people on the Titanic. I read a book once with fictionalized versions of a few of the Titanic's officers and crew members, and once I was listening to this song and when it got to Sonny's verse, all I could think about was how exactly it matched fifth officer Harold Lowe's vibes. it's not really the lyrics, but several of the verses just remind me of various crew members' vibes. and it's. it's just a great song

"Air Catcher" by TOP. that's another wonderful song. always makes me think of Iowa to Wisconsin, for no particular reason. best lyric is "I don't believe in talking just to breathe," which is an idea that always appealed to me

“Ow. Ow. Fuck. Ow,” Sam hissed.

She wasn’t supposed to be out of bed. Hell, she wasn’t even supposed to be in the bathroom by herself. But she would be damned if she had Tara help her to the toilet.

The stab wound was just a setback. It was from some Stab-obsessed fan who wanted Sam’s signature. Instead of giving it to them, Sam decided to slap them. How was she to know that they had a knife on them?

In hindsight, she should’ve known.

But it didn’t matter now. What’s done is done.

Honestly, the worst part of this whole ordeal was how much Tara doted on her.

Though the pair had been through heaven and hell together, Sam couldn’t handle the care that Tara was providing. Her sister was so gentle and so sweet with her. She didn’t deserve it. It was a sobering thought to know that her baby sister would take her own heart clean apart if it helped Sam’s beat.

Her sister was so good. Tara was the sunshine that came after a storm. She was the sun rising, and the colors shimmered across a calm sea. Sam was the rain that came after, the storms that destroyed cities, and the chill that followed cruel words.

Sam didn’t deserve anything good. She wasn’t a fundamentally good person. Violence was intertwined with every cell in her body. If anyone deserves hell, it was Sam. She could feel the flames licking her skin and her hollow heart crumbling apart.

Yet despite all the damage that came with knowing Sam, her sister stayed.

And she had no idea why. Sam had left her. Tore her foundations down. She shattered her heart onto the pavement. Sam broke Tara and never gave her a chance to heal.

But Tara came back. Every single time. Her arms open, hands ready to take the weight off Sam’s shoulders. Her sister back in her life, loving her as she deserved, was an out-of-body experience. Whenever Sam felt she couldn’t breathe, Tara would take the oxygen straight from her lungs.

She didn’t deserve this. But Tara still stayed.

“Sam? You’re supposed to be in bed. Why are you in the bathroom? Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

Sam closed her eyes to her sister’s voice, trying to breathe out through her nose. Nausea rose in her throat, and her vision felt blurry. Too much movement. Too much input.

“Tara, help,” she whispered. She screwed her eyes shut, trying to avoid her reflection in the mirror. If she didn’t look, she didn’t have to see the pathetic human in front of her.

She heard the door open behind her and could feel Tara’s gaze drink her in.

“I’m sorry. I needed to use the bathroom. I can’t get out. It hurts,” she mumbled, gripping onto the countertop.

Her sister pressed a hand to Sam’s back, grabbing Sam’s hand with the other. “It’s okay. I’ve got you. I’ll take care of you, I promise,”.

Sam sobbed a bit, choking down the bile in her throat. She needed to be stronger. She had to be better. Her sister shouldn’t have to take care of her. Sam should be the one strong enough to stand guard over her own body.

Despite every muscle in her body begging her to stand tall and stand strong, she let her sister guide her to bed. Tara was so fucking careful, laying Sam down and tucking her in. She even had a glass of water and her pain medications ready.

Sam swore she couldn’t let Tara in again, but like a force to be reckoned with, her sister broke down her barriers. And though Sam wanted to fight it, her sister still loved her unconditionally.

Tara wiped her face with cool towels, held her hand as pain rose through her, and kissed her wet cheeks despite the tears that fell.

Maybe, just maybe, Sam could take her armor off. She could put her sword down. She could be loved.

Tara showed her what a great privilege it was to be loved.

Sam wanted to believe her.

PSYCHOSOPHY/ATTITUDINAL PSYCHE POST #1: BEST PRACTICES FOR TYPING IN PSYCHOSOPHY AND ATTITUDINAL PSYCHE

Usually, I start each new section with an intro post, but not this time. I'm going after the best practices right away.

These 2 systems are similar enough to each other, I will write about them as one in these posts. Along with the Enneagram, I believe these 2 typing systems can pass the accuracy, reliability, and validity test if we follow these following best practices when we type people/ourselves in PY and AP.

1. Start by figuring out the person's AP type. It's easy to figure out if an AP type is also a Psychotype, so I recommend figuring out the AP type first.

2. Type the person by positions over everything else. Figure out which aspects a person is self positive/self negative, others positive/others negative, and process/result. Then put the aspects in the positions that match your findings. *Then* and only then, do I recommend the use of clubs, sextas, blocks, and the like-to check your positions, and see if they make sense with the person in question. If they do, the person is correctly typed. If not, go back to the positions, and investigate further.

3. Do not *start* with clubs, sextas, blocks, etc. Why? A lot of people can be described outwardly in the same way but still have quite different positions for the aspects. That's why I'm always positions first.

4. If you are having a hard time typing someone, it's because they're a clear extrovert/introvert with an ambivreted type, an ambivert with a clearly extroverted/introverted type, or they're not the PY archetype. In those particular instances, I look for other possible clues to the positions that aren't presenting themselves as typical manifestations of the type . For example, I had a non-archtypical dream person LVFE who didn't like to talk, so I had to determine most of his positions by his actions rather than what he said. Another dream person was a non-archtypical FELV, in that he was not counter culture to his family, and he didn't just blow where the wind took him. Instead, he got along well with his family and simply didn't prioritize volition. Position-wise, even with all those differences from the archetype, he was still 1F, 2E, 3L, and 4V.

5. Psychosophy and Attitudinal Psyche do not correlate at all to the MBTI or Socionics. Attitudinal Psyche does not correlate at all to the Enneagram. Please do not listen to the people on Personality Database who say that they do. There is only a *secondary* correlation between dominant instinctual variant and Psychosophy, and that is the *only* Enneagram correlation at all to either system.

6. Interestingly, there *is* a *direct* correlation between the conscious/unconscious dichotomy in Classic Jungian and the self positive/self negative dichotomy in AP and PY. They both represent the same thing. But I do not recommend using this to aid in your typings unless you are excellent at typing people in Classic Jungian or SOJT. If you are not great at typing people in those systems, I'd just start with the positions and then check your work using blocks, etc, as I mentioned before. (Funny how no one on Personality Database knows this.)

7. Don't trust that Rob Zeke always has the right answer. Some of his typings make no sense at all (like Taylor Swift as FELV-she's *1V* ,not 4V-don't know how you could mix those up), and he second guesses and changes a lot of typings that were correct the first time (like when he changed Eminem's typing from EFLV to ELFV-honestly I think EFLV was a better fit). If a typing on his website or Facebook group doesn't seem right, just go and retype the person on your own. Interestingly , both the examples I used here (Taylor Swift and Eminem) will be typed correctly in upcoming bonus typings in practice.

I hope that these pointers will help you to improve your typing accuracy, reliability and validity in PY and AP, and get you typing people/yourself at a passing rate of 60% or better . See you in the next post
