J. Mamana (Providence, Rhode Island) has a new album coming out in August, but I've been listening to "Nothing New in the West" for the past couple of days. There's a lot to sink your ears into here. These are complex, well-arranged and orchestrated songs. Mamana graduated from Brown University in 2016 and set about writing and recording this album. While Mamana's music doesn't actually remind me of Brendan Eder, the maturity of his musical vision and ability to pull it off is reminiscent of Eder.

Sound wise, this recalls the work of Wild Beasts, David E. Williams, Momus and Matthew Edwards.

This is released by Holy Family - a label cofounded by Mamana, Robert Merritt (Butterfly Music) and Theodora Ward.
