i saw this tweet and found it interesting for two reasons. one is that some people base how good cartoon network would be to toh by how it treated su, and despite the fact that su’s treatment by the network was considered poor at the time, now its thought to be exceptionally good in comparison to modern shows.

two is how exactly su got impacted by a limited budget. a common criticism is how characters like connie, peridot, and lapis are left out of missions. but balancing a lot of characters is not only hard but also costly (extra animation, extra voices—it’s been revealed that the show is limited to a set number of characters per episode otherwise they’re over budget). animation mistakes are not uncommon since retakes cost extra. the entire reason the original show got cut short was due to loss of funding!

The Tortuted Poets Department was born of heartbreak and loss. The loss of a longtime partner, the loss of a longtime friend, the loss of a potential romance, the loss of ideals about love, the loss of places you used to love that you have to leave behind in order to grow, the loss of your past self.

it feels absolutely AWFUL to be in that sort of state, to lose things that were once so vital to who you are.

Common critiques of TTPD are that it is “too long” or “not cohesive” or “all the songs sound the same” or “the songs aren’t written as well”.

but guess what that’s what heartbreak feels like !!!!! it lasts too long!!!!! it doesn’t just GO AWAY it lingers like a 31-track album!!! thoughts after heartbreak aren’t cohesive! they are frantic, they aren’t put together, they’re all over the place they’re devastated. And “all the songs sound the same” so do your thoughts in the wake of major heartbreak. In my experience, the brain likes to shuffle through the same thoughts over and over and over again. And to people saying the songs aren’t as well written I mean. Thats what happens when you have to keep functioning and “do it with a broken heart.” TTPD is what it sounds like to have your heart broken. Each song is a different hour, day, week, month of dealing with it. Those songs ARE well written, and even if some of them don’t contain the most polished lyrics they are raw and real. That’s what makes them comforting.

I just think a lot of the critiques of TTPD are looking at it purely from a musical standpoint and not an emotional one. TTPD is about catharsis, capturing as many feelings as possible bc if you don’t write them down they’ll stay in your brain and haunt you. TTPD is about taking your demons and making something beautiful out of them so they hurt a little less

So is that awful and ill placed and thought out daddy kink joke supposed to be a set up for Buck season 8?? For Buck actually exploring his trauma around his father and around Bobby??

Is it supposed to be the set up for Buck realising he is still on the hamster wheel of relationships where he’s in it for the emotional connection and his partner is only in it for sex?

Is that what this is - because I have spent my night trying to figure out what other reason there could possibly be for dropping that ‘joke’ at that moment and making that scene weird?

Buck is clearly more invested in the relationship than Tommy is - you can see Buck is still invested and engaged in his first queer relationship - that he’s still a bit starry eyed over Tommy - but that scene was screaming Abby 2.0 at me - Tommys behaviour was very similar to Abby’s in my opinion.

And while I’m not mad at that as a concept - Tommy being similar to Abby makes a fair amount of sense - in the same way she helped move Buck from playboy to relationship material (I maintain the playboy persona was a mask and coping mechanism for his loneliness) Tommy is helping him move from straight to queer - unlocking another part of himself.

But if that is the case - that scene - that set up - was just not it.

Every other main had at least a fair hint of what there arc will be for season 8, but Buck didn’t really - yes it was made clear he’ll be there for Eddie (and Chris) but that journey is Eddie’s not Bucks - Buck had no hint of an arc for himself so I’m left trying to figure out what they’re doing with him and this is where I’m at.

Something that I love so much about Camila is that she’s actually learned from her past mistakes. When Luz and the Hexsquad came back to the Human Realm, Camila did her best to make sure they would feel like they belonged/were loved throughout their time there. She lovingly accepted Luz when she came, did research on being nonbinary, then stayed up as late as she could trying to figure out food that the kids could eat. She originally lost Luz because she didn’t feel like she was loved but she’s learned from that mistake. She gone out of her way to make sure that all the kids under her roof are loved and accepted.

Idk what it is that makes me fixate so hard on one specific thing for years at a time, but I need it to chill out 😭 DnDads has been my only long-term media interest for like 1 and 1/2 years now, and it’s BORING to only like one thing ever lol I’m BORED!!! I need other things to be interested in, but I struggle with getting into new stuff (other than video games) sooo bad :(

That said, if you have DnD podcast recs that have interesting characters……… GIMME 👀 Also where the early episodes aren’t a nightmare to listen to 🙏 I have never listened to any other DnD podcasts, and I think it’s mostly bc the earlier seasons are always poor audio quality or like 3 hours long 😭 I’m also good with any type of narrative podcast. I just want compelling characters and platonic/familial dynamics pls. Stuff I can write sad shit about!! But also not TOO sad the whole time… maybe a little bit silly idk

So far, ones I’ve written down to listen to are Cast Party and Friends at the Table? I don’t know anything about either of them, though so? actually i think the revenge wellness checkup is the most vile and most stupid thing that’s ever happened. after their Big Fight, Ganke does think (well at this point he knows) that Miles will hurt himself after their fight out of guilt and that SHOULD be enough, but some part of him hopes the cops showing up to his and his mother’s door for an anonymous wellness checkup scares him for putting hands on ganke. just to fuck with Miles heavily and make him worse mentally. and it’s so insidious. Miles ends up also doing this, but it was kind of like an end to “i do a bad thing, you do a bad thing, we’re even now, shut up and leave” and this was their longest break before their current one (where Ganke found out about him being The Prowler) because you don’t really. fully come back from that. lol.
