Realizing he wasn’t saying anything, he signed with his hands back, “She’s . . . ” he stopped for a moment as he thought of the right words and decided, “beautiful.”

On Eun-yu understood what older Ha Yi-chan gestured. But Ha Eun-gyeol still translated it for her, repeating what his dad said. Ha Eun-gyeol thought his dad still kept the secret of the reason why the band Watermelon Sugar was made, and in this timeline he still told the story that the only woman he ever loved was Chung-ah, his mom. Liar!

However, On Eunyu was amused to see this old Ha Yi-chan, knowing that a month ago she had hung out with his younger frisky version, and now he looked respectable and proper. Older and matured. And Yoon Chung-ah was as pretty, rather, she grew even more beautiful and sophisticated. She caught a glimpse of her during the launch of their company’s new guitar, Goliath.

“May I know who your mother is?” Yi-chan signed language.

Before Ha Eun-gyeol could translate it for her, Eunyu signed language back in reply, surprising her boyfriend’s dad. “Se-kyung. Do you know her?”

The two teenagers awaited Yi-chan’s answer and then he said honestly, “Yes. My wife and your mom went to the same school. And your mom was popular in her youth so I pretty much know her.”

Pretty much e, Eun-gyeol thought and it reminded him of his jealousy learning his dad’s big crush on Se-kyung instead of mom. Playing safe, are we? He hid a smile.

Eunyu nodded. But guilt suddenly filled her remembering how she attempted to seduce Yi-chan, taking him away from Chung-ah for her selfish desire to stop herself from being born to existence, yet on the other hand if she hadn’t done that, Eun-gyeol wouldn’t notice—come to her.

“I hope my son is treating you well,” Yi-chan continued.

And the two lovers smiled at each other and then with a glint of new energy, Eunyu replied, “I think I’m the luckiest girl alive having your very handsome, kind, sweet, responsible and loving and really cool son.”

“Now, now you’re making me blush,” Eun-gyeol smiled shyly and Eunyu thought he looked cute.

“Of course!” Yi-chan’s energy doubled as he explained the words with his hands vigorously, “where else could he get it, if not from me?” A proud look on his face. Then he winked at his son, “Right, son?”

Eunyu was amused. Yi-chan was still the same old or should she say, the young Yi-chan she knew.

Eun-gyeol matched his dad’s vigor. “Of course! I have the best dad!”

Yi-chan smiled, delighted with his son. He knew his son was in a good place with her, because it’s rare to find a woman like Eunyu who could communicate with them well with respect and understanding. However, looking at Eunyu, he could only shake his head. Eunyu’s resemblance with her mom was truly spot on. He might have mistaken her as young Se-kyung traveling to the future if his son didn’t introduce her sooner. Then he looked at Eun-gyeol with pride.

My son surely got guts.

a/n: so this is my first little twinkling watermelon fic i had written few months ago after watching the show. i had the interest to tackle how adult!ha yi-chan would react seeing on eunyu as his son's girlfriend, as we all know how obsessed yi-chan was towards sekyong back in 1995. aha.

Eungyeol hates to wait, hates it even more when it’s because of Sekyeong fawning over Yichan.

But when she comes over, pretty lips downward, Eungyeol can’t help but feel his heart clench. For a split second, he wishes that she’ll choose Yichan, just to lose that pout.

Or, Eungyeol being that idiot he is, pines for Eunyoo and doesn’t even realize.

BAHAHAHAHHA, I love how his initial reaction is “Choi Sekyeong” because he’s literally traumatized by the advanced Eun Yoo made, even when in canon, he easily switches to Eun Yoo. Lovely homage to how he’s just an idiot sometimes.

And okayyy Eungyeol and Eun Yoo… 😳 That fan service line had me cracking up, oh my; Eun Ho is still a menace and it’s so funny.

CHEONGCHAN ALL DOMESTIC, SO CUTE AHHH! And I’m glad you highlighted Cheongah and Eun Yoo’s friendship because I was really fond of it 😭 also cause I’ve always been curious as to how she would react to seeing Eun Yoo look to similar to Sekyeong.

Ahhhh, I’m so excited to see what’s next! I wonder how Se Kyeong is going to react to all of the memories that she wasn’t a part of (unless that’s not discussed but idk). Just excited for the next chaoter!

Thoughts on ep 1-9

With all due respect, I know that kdramas usually have two storylines going on at the same time … but I’m begging Twinkling Watermelon to wrap up this ANNOYING Yi Chan x Se-kyung x Eun-gyeol “love triangle” 😩

If I’m being complete honest, I HATE the Se-kyung x Eun-yoo storyline as a whole 🤷🏽‍♀️ the writers + editors are doing an extremely bad job at showing us what exactly Eun-yoo role is … beside being the typical independent and loud girl boss 🫠 Sure, they gave us hints about her life and how much her parents/childhood sucked … but it was all so superficial (in terms of writing + portrayal … the issue itself is serious) and we rarely go back to it.

Other than this so called backstory + finding out who the first love is … this entire storyline is giving ZERO. Like????? How is this going to work?? She has not found her mum or her dad!! And finding the crush does what?? When her mum is halfway across the world??

I’m also not convinced by EunEun couple storyline either … I know it’s still early days … but since I find her character boring and super annoying, this couple is automatically boring too (I’m sorry pls don’t hate me lol) 😭😭

The show has so much potential. Specifically with Cheong-ahs storyline 🥹, which sadly, gets zero screen time 🙃 beyond the love story, the character is intriguing because we see her struggles, goals, home life etc.

I think the story would flow much better without another time traveler … and if it focused more on Cheong-ah and her friendship with Se-kyung + Eun-gyeols attempt at getting his parents together + spending time with his dad.

But yeah …

Blog Post 5: Verbal Messages

            The official language of South Korea is obviously Korean and was adapted from old Korean that was used in prehistoric Korea. Along with Korean two other main languages get used in the country, English and Japanese. English has been promoted as the 2nd language of Korea as is been taught in school for 40+ years now, this is very understandable as many of the tourists speak English as it’s the most spoken language in the world and that south Koreans are allies with America in global trading. Japanese is mainly spoken around the region of busan which is on the very south corner of the nation which makes it the closest point to Japan in all of Korea. Because of this both people in Busan and people in Fukuoka in Japan have developed dialects that mix both of the languages together.

            A lingua franca is a common language that is used to communicated across cultures that normally would not be able to understand each other. This is extremely helpful for tourists because as mentioned above, English is the most spoken language in the world and this allows for a greater chance of being able to conversate with someone if you were abroad.

            Most of these words were hard for me to pronounce because of how different it is to normal English combinations of letters that I see on a day-to-day basis. Specifically, I don’t understand was incredibly difficult for me to pronounce because of how long it is and anhseubnida just doesn’t roll of the tongue for me. These words would be extremely important to know before traveling to korea due to how much they could be used for and how common they are to say. If you can’t say yes, no, can you help me then you have no hope in finding your way around the city.

            Using google translate is not always the greatest tool because it is not perfect and often makes many mistakes which are very noticeable to people who are fluent in the language. Despite knowing this I did still use google translate for the words above because I don’t know any other alternatives. I think that I means that language and the phrases/metaphors that are in the language shape who we are as people and how it influences us in our daily life’s. I’m not sure I quite believe in this at all because I don’t usually let language or words or phrases people use affect my mood.
