Orym's feelings for Dorian and the place he is in right now are fascinating because he *did* get to know Dorian before he left. And it hasn't been that long, even though they have both experienced so much trauma and loss in the intervening time. Just because a part of Orym longs for the times before Dorian left, and even though nostalgia has put a shine on Dorian for Orym, I don't think that means he's fallen for the idea of him rather than the reality. They have both missed so much, but in the end they *are* paralleled to each other. Orym may be saddened by what Dorian went through, but a Dorian who never knew loss couldn't understand Orym as he is now. There is a potential there for both of them to truly be *known*.
Orym didn't ask Dorian to come back as a band-aid, or to reminisce or somehow bring simpler times with him, even if that was part of the longing. The initial reality that Dorian, too, was affected by the same sorts of things that affected Orym is jarring, but they can re-learn each other. Dorian has meant safety and support to Orym for a longer time than the time they've been apart, and I don't believe Orym would turn away from him because he's angry and grieving.
"Dorian," Orym said, truly and sincerely. "I'm so sorry."
Realizing that he's spent all of this time needing Dorian, and maybe Dorian needs him, too.

what’s with the cod fandom and ignoring the original tropes- yeah yeah SHUT UP
the bet, college fraternity edition. five thousand dollars to the man (out of the four) who could pin you down for a date, a fuck, and make it as a date to one of your sorority events. you were one of the only single sorority girls on the whole campus, and one of them confessed to you being hot over drinks one night. so, the bet was born - the only catch was, if you denied one of them, they couldn’t ask again until the rest had a hand at trying.
soap goes first, he’s arrogant and way too headstrong, he gets laughed away by your girlfriends at lunch.
gaz is more suave, taking an interest with you as you browse the public library. he chats you up, asks for your number when you politely decline, saying you had a boyfriend.
price takes more of a reserved route - bumping into you at coffee shops, at the library you study at, and occasionally at the dining hall. he’s always polite, nice, you start to build a friendship with him when he asks you to join him at his favorite coffee shop, blandly suggesting a study date. but you shook your head, saying you’ve got a midterm to study for.
simon goes last. he’s more upfront, he walks up to you at the library to ask you questions. he’s adjacent to your major, you’re widely known as the smart girl, it’s often that you get asked things in your realm of knowledge. he actually befriends you, bringing you coffee when you’re studying late, offering you come of his crisps. it’s just when he asks you if you’d like to get a drink with him, you decline. again. stating you don’t drink.
“but thanks anyway, riley.”
“what for?”
“i just won my bet.”
and that’s how the four friends learned that you were playing in a league of your own, just… your bet included rejecting the four hottest men on campus for an all expenses paid vacation to france. and your (more than just a) best friend könig winks at simon before he leads you away.

don’t get how you can watch iwtv and be a sincere diehard lestat hater. like the world’s biggest lestat hater is louis and that man can’t even commit to it for more than five minutes before literally hallucinating lestat wearing a wedding ring and talking pretty to him. this show is about louis and every road leads back to lestat for that man

One thing I have seen - even from other trans people! - is this specific implication that while it's inevitable that trans men pass, but trans women are essentially doomed if they want to pass.
I could talk for days about the intricacies of passing for trans people in general. I could talk for hours about why some trans people want to pass, and that it shouldn't be forced. I could talk about the intricacies for trans men and others when it comes to passing because the dynamics don't play out the way it does for cis men a lot of times. But what gets me is the idea that trans women could never pass, that those who do are essentially anomalies is... nasty. It's got nasty implications, and it's feels even nastier when trans people do it.
Trans women, trans men, trans people of all types shouldn't be required, pressured, or forced to pass. That is true. But to say that passing is nigh impossible for an entire subsect of trans people will never not read as evil.

Trans Logan is such a great concept to see art of, because seeing him with top surgery scars is great, but seeing people factor in that he simply would grow them back, and adapt it to portray him as a burly, testosterone fueled little man who just so happens to have a chest is GROWTH. People are DEVELOPING. The world is healing because of this.

One of the many things I find funny and irritating is the slant of a lot of interpretations of Alecto's name (that it's about feminine rage)--on this here wlw internet in the year of our lord 2024, it's easily made to figure as rage against God, or rage against patriarchy, or religious oppression, and therefore an allusion to the idea that she's going to get her vengeance on John for betraying and oppressing her somehow, but like
John is the one who named her Alecto. He's the one who named her that. So, naming her "Alecto" is alluding to the embodiment of John's rage--their rage, since they are joined inseparably (John even explicitly says that when he first perceives her: "You wouldn't stop screaming. You were so scared. You were so goddamn mad").
He says of Alecto to Harrow, "In a very real way, you are [Alecto's] children". At a very surface level, Alecto is (depending on the text or tradition), one of the Furies--famously, in several surviving Greek tragedies, who punish Orestes for the crime of killing his mother. In fact, in Aeschylus' Oresteia, they declare that they are specifically bound to avenge matricide.
So the name "Alecto" alludes to the nature of John's mission and how he sees it.
It also implies that his divine rage, the rage that gives him power, the power that makes him divine, that he either represents or wants to represent, is feminine rage. He was chosen by Earth (which, Furies are sometimes the daughters of Gaia); he is her champion, however he's managed to fuck that up. Once the truth of that comes out, it becomes clear that all of his power comes from her.
And that's why you get statements from Tamsyn Muir like:
“[T]he God of the Locked Tomb IS a man; he IS the Father and the Teacher; it’s an inherently masc role played by someone who has an uneasy relationship himself to playing a Biblical patriarch. John falls back on hierarchies and roles because they’re familiar even when he’s struggling not to. Even he identifies himself as the God who became man and the man who became God. But the divine in the Locked Tomb is essentially feminine on multiple axes – I think Nona will illuminate that a little bit more."
So yes, he plays the role of Emperor and God and Teacher, with all of the things that implies. And I don't think it should be discounted. But he also is (and partly sees himself as) the chosen champion of a goddess, or what is for all intents & purposes for a human like him a goddess. He is her avenger, and while she sleeps, her avatar.
And I don't think we're meant to read him purely as a parasite who's taking advantage of her to gain power for himself, either. Or an oppressive, Kronos-like figure. Especially if you consider Palamedes' theory of the Grand Lysis, even if he was purely motivated by desire for power before (which I really doubt), there are parts of each in the other, now. What was clear and separate before is uncertain and interpenetrated. Is his rage his own, or hers? Is his mission of revenge his, or hers? If he wants power, is that his own selfishness, or her desire to survive?
And does it matter?
