i wanted to draw a genderbent of my yuu for a while!
basically, the reason why she is so different is bc yuu doesnt really use long hair because he likes it. he uses it bc he grew up around very restrictive gender roles, so he is trying to get rid of his own biases by pure exposition therapy. by that logic, i think girl yuu would be the same, so she would cut her hair super short. the reason that she doesnt straighten her hair is also bc 1. its too much work 2. she looks ugly as hell like that and 3. she did that to her hair for yeaaaaars. so she gets to be wavy while boy yuu gets to use da hair straighter.
and jade, regardless of gender, will be Like That

The Role of Freedom and Choice in Solas's Fate
I'm still ruminating on my last post – in particular Solas and his Original Choice (taking a body). It got me thinking about choice in general and how the freedom of choice impacts a person's evolution and transformation. And how each of the endings reflect that.
Veilguard spoilers below - and a long post.
The only ending that truly allows Solas the freedom to choose is the Atonement ending.
Freedom and Choice are Important to Solas
Solas, a man who fought to free his people from slavery for hundreds of years, values freedom and choice.
Solas hates ignorance and being mindless - because ignorance is not freedom. There are a lot of great lines in one of his arguments with a low approval Inquisitor:
He's also willing to kill if ignorance has destroyed something he values (All New Faded for Her).
True freedom involves the ability to make informed choices.
Wisdom flourishes in freedom - this allows for choices to be made that lead to transformation and change.
Pride, in contrast, can be rigid, defensive, and resistant to change. When choice is removed, pride can fester because there is usually no space for reflection or growth.
Take away the freedom to choose, and you start to strip away someone’s humanity.
Allowing choice and agency creates fertile ground for change and shifting perspectives. Which is strengthened through connection with others.
We saw this shift in Inquisition:
Perspectives are shifting.
In Trespasser, a high-approval Inquisitor can tell Solas they’ll prove he doesn’t need to destroy the world, to which Solas replies, “I would treasure the chance to be wrong once again, my friend.” He’s open to the possibility of another path, of a different choice.
I see proof of this shift in Veilguard.
In Trespasser, Solas tells the Inquisitor that saving his world will destroy theirs and sounds like he's talking absolute destruction. But in Veilguard, he tells Varric that he’s taken precautions to minimize damage and confesses to Rook that while thousands may die, he’s working to preserve as much life as possible.
Personal opinion: Some people claim that Solas lies all the time - to himself, to others. Yes, he lies, but all the time? That feels like (to me) a simplistic and one-dimensional view of this character. I love Solas because he embodies duality. He tells the truth and he lies, but his lies are never straightforward. They’re strategic, carefully worded, lies of omission or half-truths. Saying “he just lies about everything” is too easy. Solas invites us to discern for ourselves, to see him through the lens of the story we choose to believe about him. The game acknowledges this duality when (depending on dialogue choices), Solas tells Rook, “I am, after all, remembered as the god of lies, treachery and rebellion.” When Rook responds with, "Depending on the story.” Solas follows with, “And what story shall we tell now?” I LOVE that line - it’s like he’s turning to us, the player and asking, What are you going to believe? We have a choice here.
Back to the main point: is Solas lying about having spirits at the ready? Maybe. But we know Solas is friends with spirits (All New, Faded for Her), and he led spirits in battles against the Evenuris, he spoke with spirits trying to convince some to fight back.
And Emmrich says to Solas:
So why is it so hard to believe that he did ask spirits to stand by and help?
Solas admits that while destruction is inevitable, he’s trying to minimize the damage. Yes, it's still morally questionable, but it shows a shift - a choice to preserve life where he can.
Choices Shape Us
The good, the bad, and the ugly - Solas’s choices define him. Prideful Solas makes destructive, terrible, morally grey decisions. He tries exerting force over Rook, manipulates, and attempts trickery. He tries to take away Rook’s own choices when it suits him.
But we also see Wise Solas guiding and helping Rook. I love this ongoing dance between Wisdom and Pride throughout Veilguard. Which wolf will be fed?
Freedom to choose is complemented by relationships - connections with others that encourage reflection. Just as Solas’s connections in Inquisition helped him reflect and shift, his connection with Rook - a new mirror for him - will also help him shift. The question is, will it be for the worse or the better?
So We Get to the End...
Elgar'nan has been defeated, Rook holds the dagger and now Rook has a choice...which will set the stage for which Solas enters the Fade – wisdom (spirit) or pride (demon).
Trick Weekes mentioned on Bluesky in answer to a question about Solas's trauma being tied to the dagger.
(Here is the original Tumblr post which is a great read)
With that in mind, let’s examine the endings - and Solas’s mental state - through the lens of freedom to choose.
The "Normal" Ending
In this ending, Rook has taken the time to help their companions, resolving their issues so they can make meaningful choices and become stronger versions of themselves. This collective strength allows Rook and the team to overpower Solas. However, Rook chooses not to offer a choice to Solas. Instead, they stab him, forcibly binding him to the Veil, against his will.
The image following this ending shows Solas in his Veilguard outfit, falling backward almost like in a spiral. To me this visual conveys a sense of being out of control - surrounded by darkness and a swirling storm. His mind is clearly not in a good place (he refers to himself a god now). Solas is trapped by force, and left in a dark, chaotic state.
The "Good" (Trick) Ending
The Trick ending is intriguing. What’s interesting is that it’s called a "good" ending, and I think that’s because, in this ending, Solas still makes a choice.
Rook and the team outwit Solas, forcefully binding him to the Veil once again. However, within this act of force, there’s a small glimmer of hope - Solas chooses to accept his defeat. He bitterly admits he was bested and calls himself a fool. While Pride may have the upper hand here, his Wisdom isn’t completely lost symbolized by the bright background in the final image.
Though the image shows Solas falling again, he doesn’t appear to be struggling against it in this one. This tells me that, despite his defeat, Solas’s mindset might still have a chance to recover and evolve down the road.
The "Bad" Ending
The bad ending is fascinating to me on a few layers. It's described as the default because it requires the least effort. In this path, Rook neglects their companions’ personal quests, chooses not to help them resolve their issues (which would enable them to make meaningful choices so they can grow, so they can choose their paths going forward.) Relationships are sidelined, and everyone dies.
Solas’s state reflects this. He’s snarling, sneering, and fighting, stabs Rook, is consumed by anger, desperation and resistance. Rook chases after Solas as he tries to escape, grabs him from behind, preventing him from moving forward, pulls back on him slightly - then the Fade grabs them - pulling them both back to the Fade (as seen in this video).
He's being pulled - not enough of him to be him. He becomes what battered him, bruised his being.
And the image following this? Just an image of a memorial. No peek into Solas's mind, no commentary on it from Varric. My interpretation? Wisdom (Solas) is gone.
And Rook? Not looking good. The text following says that this "cost many lives, including Rook and the team". This implies Rook didn't make it.
This ending triggered a visceral reaction in me. To me the message is clear.
Rook’s decision not to support their companions means the team is unable to grow, leaving them unprepared to face challenges, weakening their collective strength. The absence of meaningful connection (which I highlighted earlier is a part of growth) results in a failure to create the unity needed to overcome Solas - and Rook and the team pay the price for this. For Solas, this lack of connection mirrors his descent into Pride.
Without the influence of reflection, compassion, or alternative perspectives from others, he remains trapped in his own rigid mindset.
The "Best" Ending (Atonement)
Despite Solas constantly trying to screw Rook over, Rook chooses to turn the other cheek – and offers him another chance. Rook also holds Solas accountable, reminding him that by tearing down the Veil, he’s taking away everyone else's freedom to choose - because it’s what he wants.
Solas is reflective here, mirroring the energy he’s met with. When confronted with ego, he responds with ego; when met with understanding, he opens himself to it. Rook’s willingness to forgive (this offering of another path is an act of forgiveness) and to challenge him, continues nurturing the chance for further change, allowing other voices, like the Inquisitor’s and Mythal’s, to influence him as well.
But the choice is still Solas's.
And when Solas CHOOSES to uphold the Veil:
In both endings where Solas enters the Fade - whether alone or with a romanced Inquisitor - the Fade is bright. In the solo ending, Solas appears to be taking purposeful steps forward, looking like a wise sage. In the romanced ending, he holds the Inquisitor in an embrace, symbolizing connection.
Both endings show a Solas looking like he was in Inquisition, a reminder of how his time with the Inquisition mattered. The relationships he formed shaped him, helping him build a foundation to move forward, to shift perspectives in order to make new choices.
As Solas says to a friend Inquisitor and Rook, “Thanks to you, I see another way.” That realization came because Rook and the Inquisitor reflected that possibility back to him.
And when Solas chooses atonement, he starts envisioning a better future - a world where the Blight is soothed and even the Titans might have a place. But being forced into the Fade? Who knows how long it might take for him to see that path (if at all), or if the resentment from being forced will taint his perspective.
But again, this is just my interpretation (and still evolving).
The Atonement ending reminds me that people can change, but real change requires freedom, open-mindedness, connections with others and the opportunity to choose. Solas’s transformation happens because he’s given the space to choose his own path - not because he’s forced into it. Along the way, the people who challenged and engaged his Wisdom guided him back to his core essence, allowing him to reclaim his purpose in the end.

💙 (blue) for the other ask 🙈🙈🙈
💙: Which character is not as hot as everyone else seems to think?
As a flaming asexual, I'm probably the wrong person to ask about this...or the right person, because to me, nobody is as hot as everyone else seems to think except maybe figuratively? I'm bad at distinguishing whether attractiveness is being spoken of "seriously" or .... theoretically?...or as a joke, or...yeah, I honestly don't know. Characters whose personalities I especially like immediately become adorable to me (if that makes sense) so I get cute aggression every time I see my favorite little guys.
#this however does mean that most villains (in character: not the actors!!) are ugly to me no matter what they look like QAQ#i can TELL they are objectively handsome! I can tell!#their features are perfect!#but in their roles they are also ugly?????#tbh this might just be bc i found the acting in cql excellent#or just exactly to my taste#me looking at he peng in character as wen chao: i've never seen a less hot guy in my life#me looking at he peng in another drama/irl/in a bts clip WHERE HE LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME: baby boy. handsome man#help#asks#stilton squeaks#unpopular opinion asks

sorry if it was unclear but the clarification on ashton's position in 110 that has made the ugliness of his current ideology clear was not the fact that he listened to what was said to him, it was his claim after that "The shard of titan in me, it's good. If things go the way I think they're going to go... I think nature is ready to right itself one way or another. [...] I think the world is ready for a bit more chaos. I think that we could be good for this place and I think we will more than survive the gods, if it comes to it ."
First, claiming that nature as titan has any moral standing at all is a bold move, because then ashton is ascribing the exact same power structure he thinks is inherently horrible with the gods to the titans. the titans are morally neutral if taken to be part of nature, the shard is just power, ashton's assumption that there is something about the titans that makes their responses and role in the world more right, natural, or most of all good is literally just. textbook essentialism.
but second. one of the first pieces of communication in that exchange was a correction of ashton's thinking (one similar to the correction the matron was trying to draw out as she kept bringing up the agency of mortals and their power). when ashton says "i'm a part of you." they're corrected and told that actually she's a part of ashton. in the literal sense this is obvious that the shard is inside ashton, but it also speaks to the pattern of bh looking everywhere but inward for an answer to what they should do, which is rather comedic given the degree to which ashton is willing to reinterpret anything said to them to get a specific answer but not actually uphold their own agency when it comes to 'nature righting itself.'
particularly i find revealing the "we will more than survive the gods" part. even taken as generously as possible and assuming ashton is just exercising his lack of judgement and does mean all mortals in his use of the "we" pronoun there, he has completely overlooked what was explicitly said about how, if the world is remade, only the strong are likely to survive. paired with the notion that the world needs a bit more chaos after spending weeks with several people whose lives have been irreparably damaged by the chaos that the other person in exandria who is appealing to a greater power to free him from the responsibility of dealing with his trauma at any cost... even my best faith still comes out of that looking at ashton (as someone who literally earlier in the same episode pushed back against his party members being optimistic because it wasn't realistic) as someone acting with naive optimism for blatantly selfish reasons. also just, general icky feelings about ashton referring to nature righting itself, the world getting more chaos, if things go the way he thinks they're going to go in vague, hand-wavy fashion when he should well know, punk icon that he is, all the violence those notions include.
#'but ashton sees themself as broken and needs to fix things' cool. that actually means nothing at all if i have to sit through ugly ideology#also. a lesson they've already learned after absorbing the shard. and an arc i've already seen with percy and the raven queen#so. yknow. im not super inclined to approach this particular character arc of ashtons in good faith#and like. good faith here is taking ashton to be misguided and oblivious#bad faith would be saying ashton has no choice because hes traumatized actually.#double bad faith actually#both the argument sense of the term and the sartrian sense of the term#ashton greymoore#sorry if you see this in the tags but uh its about ashton and also blog org idk man#critical role#cr3

Thinking about Vax'ildan.
Thinking about Vax and hair.
Thinking about a small child running to his mother crying because a bigger kid pushed him into the Gladepools and his hair is all messed up now.
Thinking of him sat in front of the fire as his mother dries and untangles his hair, singing to him in her mother's tongue.
Thinking of him and his sister sitting on stools at the kitchen table waiting impatiently as their mother braids their hair all prettily for the Harvest Close Fair, the pair giggling and kicking their feet as they're asked to "please sit still for just another minute, you two."
Thinking about Vax asking to brush his mother's hair and braid it, so she teaches him how to do it and Vex asks him to braid her hair as well.
When Syldor takes the twins, aged 10, to Syngorn, he forces them to have their hair cut according to Syngorn's bizarre Family Hierarchy Hair Rules;
waist length hair is indicative of political status
hair just above the waist is indicative of being the head of your household
just above the elbow length is indicative of being the household heir
just below the shoulder length is indicative of being respected by your household
hair that's shoulder length exactly is indicative of being from a wealthy household but of having little respect
just below chin length but just above shoulder length is indicative of you coming from a non-wealthy family
hair at chin length or shorter than chin length is indicative that you have been disowned by your family's household
Syldor has waist length silky black hair, which he usually leaves undecorated unless he's hosting or attending a ball
Vax also has silky black hair, Syldor having it cut from just above the elbows up to exactly shoulder length - while Vex has curly brown hair that had also been just above the elbows before it was also forcibly cut to shoulder length exactly
Vax would continue to help his sister with her hair, brushing it and braiding it for her
Whilst Vex slowly earned a modicum of respect through her hard work at school, her hair allowed to grow longer, Vax never gained any respect as he flunked his classes and started to act out, so he had to keep his hair shoulder length
By the age of 16, Vex had her hair back to just above her elbows to show that she's now the household heir - while Vax has rebelled and cut his hair into a choppy pixie cut in an attempt to piss off Syldor
He's forced to wear a wig to social events and he's banned from using sharp objects, but its worth it to him
When the twins run away from Syngorn and end up living in the woods when Byroden is gone, Vex has Vax cut her hair to match his as a symbol of her love for him and Vax cries while doing so because his sister's hair is so important to her
from then onwards, Vax comes to consider both of their hair as incredibly sacred to him, taking as good of care as he can of both of their hair even while living out in the wilderness
they both grow their hair out to be waist length, almost as if to spite Syldor and Syngorn
Vax braids Vex's hair in a way that protects and maintains her curls, while he likes to decorate his hair with small braids with colourful beads through them
When they join Vox Machina, Vax accidentally becomes the resident hairstylist as well as the resident cook - Scanlan, Pike and Keyleth all go to him for hair cuts, hair styling & help with shaving properly
Percy wouldn't start asking for his help too until after they've dealt with the Briarwoods and freed Cassandra & Whitestone
Cassandra also goes to Vax for help with her hair, having him cut it to her shoulders for her after years of Delilah not letting her style it how she wants to
when Grog gets the belt and grows a beard, Vax helps him to style and maintain it
Vax and Gilmore do each other's hair, teaching each other different styles and hair care tips as they gossip - just two boyfriends who have "caring for the other's hair" as a love language, so cute!
Vax and Allura, who are best friends with messy feelings in my fanon, love to gossip over tea and take turns braiding each others hair as they do
and I can so see Vax starting a hairdressing salon in the back of the 2nd floor of Gil's shop
just...Vax'ildan and hair 😭
(I will never forgive TLOVM for the fuckass ugly hair they gave Vax, let him have pretty hair!!!)
#critical role#cr#cr spoilers#the legend of vox machina#tlovm#tlovm spoilers#vax'ildan#vax'ilmore#vaxilmore#jokey discourse#im not actually that upset over vax's hair in tlovm im just gay & dramatic#but also it is ugly#vaxxy shut the fuck up challenge

ruminating on 'the vees died despondent nobodies' thoughts
velvette interrogates vox after she hears him give various conflicting and bombastic accounts on air. a selection of these include: blew his brains out on live television, administered the death penalty for killing his "bitch wife," a tragic accident involving two shetland ponies, dubiously legal iranian yogurts, and a whole lot of cocaine. the actual cause was shockingly ordinary- a heart attack in front of the television, alone, his corpse only recovered after two weeks passed. he was watching a game show and his last mortal regret was never even learning who won, because he died during the commercials.
#vox#velvette#haven't settled on what i think is a satisfying cause of death for velvette#running on 'a fight that escalated with her shitty then-boyfriend while trying to film something'#mostly bc i'm thinking of her recounting this to vox and telling him the thing she most regrets is that he was ugly as sin#and now his mugshot is permanently stapled to news of her death#but i'm not mega attached to this or anything#(the thing she ACTUALLY most regrets#is that the people she knew probably took more interest in how she died than who she was alive#that the most notable thing about her was something she didn't even do#and even the tragedy of her death to those who heard about it is in how bitterly commonplace it is)#wait this is actually thematically perfect. because in hell she's STILL in some ways defined by her proximity to two men#/yes/ her followers and fans are captivated by her separate from voxval. but she's inescapably regarded through the lens of the vees#both in the 'what's the niche velvette fills in the vees' sense but also through her relationships to val and vox#she's velvette. but she's never Just Velvette. she is always One Of The Vees#who she is to vox and valentino is what Velvette(tm) is#she can play every role to the public. their beleaguered 3rd wheel. their Sane Friend. partner (business). partner (romantic/sexual)#how do i fit that alongside:#'the people of hell like velvette because she's unfiltered. raw. authentic. mean girl who says what she wants w/o caring'#with a hammer and a lot of grit#i do think that's usually what she thinks of herself. at least consciously and these actually aren't mutually exclusive#you know how i said i'm not super attached to this backstory. whoops i have convinced myself of it!#if not the above specifics the 'the most remembered thing about velvette's life is how she died' angle#as it turns out this post is actually about velvette. i need to think about my evil babygirls Themes#i had something to say about vox and gameshows but thats enough footnotes for now i think

honestly when i tried to figure out why some fans are so mad at ivypool these days i was looking through avos and. the scene where ivypool apologises to twigpaw for not supporting sending a patrol for skyclan is genuinely very sweet??
i actually saw someone characterize this as "ivypool forcing twigpaw to forgive her". is it crack you smoke. is that what you smoke. you smoke crack?
#she apologises THREE SEPARATE TIMES#she acknowledges that dovewing and tigerheart's situation made her ignore twigpaw's feelings#she reassures twigpaw that this is the right thing for the clans. she tells her she's proud of her & tc is lucky to have her#you guys do understand that to apologise you have to Do Something Wrong?? or is that the part that's so unforgivable?#i am fASCINATED by the treatment of dove and ivy by the fans in recent years#i'm still pondering it but i think there are a few root causes#1) I think a lot of people read oots as kids and hated dove & identified with ivy because of the underdog storyline#maybe this fandom worship of dovewing is kinda part of that? wanting to feel like you've grown out of fandom misogyny?#but i also feel like 2) tigerdove has really increased dovewing's popularity#and i think because ivypool is so staunchly opposed to their relationship people then have to villainise ivypool#3) is maybe too spicy of a take but to be honest#i think people are subconsciously way more comfortable with a woman whose story ends in heterosexual marriage and childrearing#dovewing's mom role in TBC to shadowsight probably helped her popularity#so ivypool whose relationship w Fernsong & her kits is much less of a focus. and is mUCH less maternal#and who still exhibits Ugly Female Emotions like anger and hurt#and who God Forbid now holds a position of authority...#is too complicated to fit into :) she's such a good mom :) she's such a good mate#dovewing is easier to like because she tends to be a victim of circumstances (🤫 and often lacks agency in her storylines)#since ivypool regularly uses her agency to Fuck Up#fans revert to idealising dovewing because not only is she too good to do bad things. she also doesn't do Things in general#never mind that ivypool is the one who sacrifices and apologises#anyway <3 i think if i made a full analysis of ivy and dove post OOTS i would get too many spicy anons so i will cower in the tags

Me, but I stick Gavin in my OC's universe and send him straight to hell
All that you need to know is that Gavin partially works for a very scp-esque organization focused on keeping things outside of the boundary of the dimension's existence from bleeding into it
He still works his normal job, everything is pretty much the same, and his only daily goal is to get home and "use his android boyfriend as a weighted blanket and go to sleep."
sucks that the constant exposure to extra-dimensional shit causes a form of corruption that (while reversible!) is not great
#my art#gavin reed#Surveyors are researchers with a focus on conservation#but Gavin is also a guard which is a combat role#its mainly due to paranoia and the caracara he has while working for the org is more or less a service animal#the ugly ass bird baby is how every other avian creature views him as whenever he corrupts enough to get physical changes#fundamentally gross to them but also a baby so not something to brutally murder

Our beloved local outdoor summer musical theater venue is doing Les Mis this summer and they're looking for 20 extra singers from the symphony chorus to fill out the ensemble on "Do You Hear the People Sing," "One Day More," and the finale -- it would basically involve a couple of days of intensive rehearsals (necessitating two days of vacation time) and a week of performances, it's after the symphony season is over, and it would allow me to do something I've dreamed of since I was ten.
So why am I waffling about it? Oh right, it's my mother's voice in my head. (It's probably also that recovering from covid has got me worried that my voice won't come back--even just with the symphony there's so much amazing stuff happening this season)
eta: it's actually 10 days that we need to be available for rehearsals, I think, which would make it a lot less doable for me, but idk if the supers need to be there the whole time -- I guess I'll go to the interest meeting in a couple of weeks and find out. We get 180 hours of vacation time a year but I will actually need to take a real vacation at some point
#back in the day they auditioned local kids for the child roles in the touring productions#i expressed an interest in this and she was like#'i don't think you'd be very believable as a waif'#also she's been calling me three times a day since i got sick and it's stressing me out#and like#i am my own person and she can't prevent me doing stuff obvs#it's just that she's sort of come to embody all my psychological hangups#i mentioned a while back that i had an opportunity to sing in the st. john passion#and she was like YOUR JOB COMES FIRST#it took me a long time to get over the feeling that i was going to get fired at any time#and she always comes right along to undermine it#it doesn't matter that i'm good at my job or that i work hard!#i'm fat and ugly!#and i have a personality!

y’all the last half of Ep 3 of Tide and Bone was like, the most comforting horror I’ve ever seen?
like, full on sobbing for the last hour or so
and the dread and despair and not being able to change the big things that is a necessary part of eldritch horror
but they did it in such a warm way
and the tears were of grief
for what could have been and what was
but they flowed because of that loving embrace
a sense of home
from what should be one of the most terrifying figures in the universe
it was a fuckin masterpiece

as a person who hasn't read the books; I thought that finale was 8/10. Louis is so crazy but he is so free! and I kind of like the ambiguity with Daniel/Armand. We are gonna have to continue watching to see what happens next season. I have a feeling Armand is back to hiding in a cavern/hole somewhere, and Daniel knows where! ALSO...lestat playing sad music on his ipad in his shack while pretending to play a keyboard. can't wait to see more of this stupid french fuck
#interview with the vampire#iwtv spoilers#louis louis#i wanted him to leave dubai but i support his decision to play the role of hot widow#and being 100% ready to scrap with anyone#enjoy that ugly tower in peace babe#akasha mention confused me thooooo#how has he drank from her already?#excited for marius to role up next season and be like ?????#also the revisit of season one details/plot holes#yassssss!!!#it was intentional the whole time ugh!
