People need to be more ok with "my favorite character is fucked up (/neutral) and that's fine actually"

Especially with characters like Ivan and Mizi who's entire gripe is about how the most twisted parts of themselves cannot be seen or loved

Sanitizing their characters and rejecting their canonical darker aspects is just reinforcing the narrative these characters buy into — that no one can ever love or accept them if they're not the shiny version of themselves they present to the world

Why are we focusing so much on Hyunwoo? He ruined Hyuluka, if he hadn't interfered or if Hyuna didn't have a twin brother, my otp Hyuluka would already be together and married 😭😭

Oh my godd a chance to gush about my boy Hyun Woo???

Despite not being a member of the main cast, the narrative influence of Hyun Woo's death on Hyuna and Luka respectively is no less than Sua's on Mizi or Ivan's on Till and that is just some insanely delicious writing.

Alnst is a series about love. But while its exploration of the potentially twisted side of romantic love is an obvious focus, they give due recognition to the other forms of love that exist. Mizi's love for her friends. Io's love for Till. Isaac's love for his brother. Dewey's love for his found family. Hyuna's love for humanity. The list goes on and on. And which set of characters is shown front and center in this aspect??

God I love this frame so much. Definitely one of my favorites in Karma — it gives me everything I ever wanted for this trio.

I love the visual metaphors of their relationship as hearts in both Till and Ivan, and Mizi and Sua's scenes, but I am insanely gratified by the inclusion of Hyun Woo in Hyuna and Luka's. Because this more than anything reflects the fact that!! At its core!! This isn't just about what could have existed between Luka and Hyuna!! This is also about the familial love that exists between Hyuna and Hyun Woo!! And the platonic love that exists between Luka and Hyun Woo!! The consequences of Hyun Woo's death can only be so far-reaching because both of these bonds exist!

Also! The fact that after the 7 year time skip we can determine whether Luka is failing or succeeding in finding an answer to Hyuna's puzzle, aka his salvation and the key to his freedom, based on whether he is mourning Hyun Woo alongside Hyuna????

If the black rings he wears on the billboard symbolizes only Hyuna, it means he's failed because even after her death he continues to withdraw into his internal world, to seek solace in merely the idea of her and never facing the reality he needs to face in order to truly live.

But if the black rings (one smaller might I add and linked to the bigger one with a chain) symbolize BOTH Hyuna and Hyun Woo, it means he is properly facing Hyun Woo's death! It means he has finally started to face what happened. It means he can work towards learning to forgive himself. It means he is finally recognize and learning to process loss and live in spite of it just as Hyuna wanted. A+++ WRITING!! INCREDIBLE! I LOVE IT! TY VIVIMENG FOR GIVING THEIR RESPECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH HYUN WOO THE IMPORTANCE IT DESERVES I OWE YOU MY SOUL

I've always been very vocal about how I don't really have a favorite Alnst character but Hyun Woo's existence is absolutely one of my favorite things about this series for too many reasons to count.

I'm curious - how would Luka's relationship with Hyun Woo and Hyuna change in the same class au? I feel like him making friends with someone outside their little trio would shake the dynamics up, especially with Hyun Woo. If they still fought but he didn't die, I imagine their relationship would get better if he saw him with Mizi. On the other hand, I could see Hyun Woo thinking he's taking his bluntness too far, or believing he's simply being rude. Hyuna I feel like isn't really a stranger to occasional harshness, but she'd also find the right tone to cushion it somewhat.

Ooo this is an interesting question.

Hyun Woo's incident was a direct consequence of Luka withdrawing into his internal world.

Dead clones -> Luka withdraws into Hyuna -> Luka monopolizes Hyuna -> Hyun Woo gets upset -> The Incident

Luka's withdrawal into making Hyuna his whole world still happens in this AU, as does the fight, but Hyun Woo never gets his fatal injury, just a nasty bump as he runs off fuming and emotionally wrecked.

Surprisingly, I think Hyun Woo is the one who benefits from the expanded social circle the most! I think part of what he felt leading up to the incident was the feeling of being pushed away, left out, and neglected. The person most important to him was being taken away from him, and how could anyone have the right to do that when Hyuna's his sister?

Having someone to vent to and sympathize with him, validating his feelings, will help him process his emotions in a way that's less destructive than lashing out physically. (It's really interesting to think about how the conversation/interaction completely changes depending on who (Mizi/Sua/Till/Ivan) he talks to! It's like we're playing a visual novel lolol)

I'd like to imagine the situation was still tense between the three of them for a while, but given time and space they gradually move forward.

Re: Hyuna and Hyun Woo's reaction to his interaction with Mizi

Hyuna would wish he handled it better but other than saying a few words to Luka, she'd prioritize going after Mizi and making sure she's okay.

Hyun Woo calls Luka out on calling Mizi out but otherwise doesn't really give him too much grief for it.

These two are the ones who understand Luka the most after all this time so they're probably the only people who understand where he's coming from and the fact that he's even saying all this is a sign he cares, abrasive as it is.
