Completely besides the point OP made, but this made me once again think abt how I will never understand how an animal-hunting vampire, comfortable or not, is supposedly morally superior to one drinking from humans without killing them. There are enough vampires in various works of fiction that don't have to kill for blood, even though they might be tempted to every time they feed, but theoretically they could even ask a human for consent. In some works like Vtmb it even feels good for the humans, so much so that a sizeable number signs up to be vampire donors. Somehow that's worse than shredding squirrels out of principle, just because iTs hUmANs aNd iT's eVIL? Yeah no. If the horror factor of any vampire concept consists in "oh no we are no longer treated as the Crown of Creation" then said concept just bores me ^^

I find vampires that live comfortably off animal blood to be so eye-rolling. You're taking away the fundamental tension of the concept! They're killers, even if they don't want to be. They have a terrible urge that must be satisfied.

A vampire that feasts on animals should, at the very least, be unhappy about it. Eating animals instead of humans should be heroic act of self-denial, a diminishment, a course of last resort.

When I see a scene of a vampire taking down a deer and then just being normal afterward, I get sad, because where's my juicy internal conflict gone?

outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978

One thing I admire about the Zukka fandom is that they are largely aware that it is fanon. Like they're not making essays upon essays and meta analysis on why their scenes "prove" it's gonna be canon.

the thing is you could actually be taking this headcanon without inherent moral judgement to build on it and create a meaningful character study. for example about how he may struggle with his inexperience in an environment that celebrates the sins of the flesh so openly or how he may WANT to have sex but struggles to find the intimacy he craves with another person or how perhaps he does NOT want to have sex but is actually not weirdly insecure about it like a 16 y/o boy who has never seen a tiddy but still celebrates his body.

there are literally unlimited ways to interpret this as a HC if you must!!!! but instead it gets used to infantilize him as this swagless loser nerd mommy's boy, more often than not relating it to his autism-coded traits which just adds up to such a superficial and frankly boring idea of who this character is. plus, it perpetuates outdated stereotypes about what neurodivergence means. you do you, i don't care, but equating virginity to being a loser or assuming someone who is visibly neurodivergent has to be bad in bed or undesirable is neither a progressive take nor is it funny.

they're filming season two, but i'm thinking about the potential adaption of the mount tam scene in season three. you know, the one where annabeth could apologize for pushing percy out of the way and falling off the cliff in his place, and how she knows that sounds terrible but they didn't have time for another plan and she didn't want to lose him that way. but percy just engulfs her in a hug because he's so relieved that she's safe now and everything else be damned. and annabeth doesn't understand why he's snickering to himself after that last statement, but she melts into the hug anyway because she missed him. and thalia and grover stand in the background happy for their friends on the outside but internally mortified, because their friends are definitely falling for each other but fate may not allow them to see it through.
