I think it's really nice you thought you could create an unfuckable and untwinkifiable monster, and I always think people should dream big, but I think it might be time to put this one away.
I am endlessly fascinated by this version of me that exists in the head of some fans, of this naive yet stern-faced Writer(tm) desperately trying to make them take my work seriously; frantically trying to stop them being horny for my creations. Like, mate, cmon. Ive been doing this for a long time now, and I made my peace with the monsterfuckers years ago. Am I trying to make an unfuckable monster? No. Cause I'm not an idiot.
I just make my messed-up grotesqueries for my little horror stories and assume someone out there probably wants to fuck them and that's fine. Me trying to stop them would be just be a waste of everybody's time, so I just wish them godspeed and go add some more pus to Mr Bonzo's stitches.
It does make me laugh that none of you know what a twink is, though.

It irritates me alot when people say that making medic more compassionate is ''missing the point of his character'' when he is literally shown to be in the comics.... did you miss the part where he showed concern for both sniper and miss pauling's well being in comic 5 and 6.
His actions are a combination of genuine attachment + clinical interest and these things do not cancel out one another. He is always pushing boundaries and going against the grain and i think this is what led to him losing his license in the first place. He felt stifled by the rules imposed on him.
He is shown to be extremely passionate so it makes sense that he would use his endless fascination with medicine as a way to show his affection. He loves his friends so he will find a way to make them borderline indestructible. Malpractice is his love language.
#it makes me really angry how adamant some people are against exploring his sweeter side beyond just ''heehoo evil doctor''#idk how to tell you that giving a character a wider range of complexities and oftentimes contradicting traits#does not equal 'woobification'. him being friendly social and cheerful and fascinated with the world around him (which he canonically is)#is not the same thing as writing him as a helpless softboy. those two things do not correlate#he was visibly worried when sniper wanted to get back in the fight!#it's so abundantly clear that medic just misses social cues and doesn't always react accordingly#plus his quote unquote evilness is a joke it's not. something that is meant to be taken seriously#he's more comparable to a saturday morning cartoon villain except he is a protagonist#the way he approaches medicine to me is very similiar to#a child playing potions if that makes sense. he is throwing shit together to see what sticks#and having fun with it#i might rewrite this later to be more coherent because i have alot of thoughts on him that are jumbled together#and there is so much to say abt him#also i find it so funny how inconsistent he is. he tells them they all hallucinated before brain death#yet he personally went to hell multiple times. why did he do that#tf2#medic#tf2 medic#medic tf2#team fortress 2

Okay, but
To ride upon a broom fashioned for you by Death herself. To trust so implicitly in the strength and the sincerity of Death that you allow a tool made by her hand to lift you off the ground. To leave gravity behind and feel freedom, camaraderie, true joy, all because of a gift from Death, freely given.
And to trade in turn a gift of your own, knowing it is built for Death to trust and ride upon. To know you have in you the capacity to run equal with Death, and the knowledge of her required to build something that will lift her high. To love Death, to be loved by Death, enough to see the true nature beneath the shadows, and to fly. What could be more beautiful? What could be a higher aspiration? To be so even-footed with Death herself that you are her scar and her flight all at once is the highest power I can fathom.
#agatha all along#agatha all along spoilers#agatha x rio#agathario#there’s a lot about that duo I find fascinating and romantic#but the broom exchange especially#the trust in it and the knowledge of each other’s needs#the way each is built specifically for the other without exchanging words#it’s Romance motherfuckers#they are violence and they are grief and they are capable of equal ground#if only so they can soar

lovingly pointing out that the cat king did to edwin what edwin did to his cat
step by step, even. offered him something he wanted (even if only deep down), put a binding spell on him, then asked for something he wanted in exchange for freedom
obviously they wanted different things, but it's funny that the cat king just decided "let's copy paste the crime as the punishment"
#dead boy detectives#cat king#edwin payne#the cat king#every day i lose my mind about equal retribution and the cat king saying he's fair#cause yeah! he is fair! he's also a trickster so you have to guess what counts as fair to him#also like that's an entire cat he just looks like a person and acts like a bastard (affectionate) sometimes#i love him he's so fascinating

Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.
#me reading any christian historical fiction set in england: why are none of these gentry anglican??#they ARE all anglican and if they are not it is extremely plot and character relevant you can't just have them using evangelical buzzwords#but i'm also thinking of this because i started another charlotte yonge book#that is by far my favorite of the things of hers that i've read#because it has characters who have different upbringings and religious opinions#instead of just 'here's a bunch of high church anglicans judging people who don't live up to their victorian standard'#you have the very high church anglican rector whose wife is worldly but still a very good person#the girl raised in a very strict protestant family who is more scrupulous than the anglicans but is still recognized as a good person#you have people who are trying to work out the nuances of different issues#and that makes it so much more realistic and so much easier to integrate into the story#(the politics though are hilarious)#(most of the classics that survive are the ones that were 'ahead of their time' in politics)#(so it's equally fascinating and refreshing and a bit infuriating to see one that is very very of its time with regards to women's rights)#('why did this woman get up at the meeting and explain her very good ideas for rebuilding after the fire? she should have had a man do it')#(meanwhile i'm just screaming 'why on earth SHOULDN'T she???')#(it's almost enough to make a feminist of me)

imagine ianthe's suffering rn. its so funny to me. girl all u wanted was power and i respect that but turns out that the side effect of power isnt the moral implications or whatever, its dealing with god's personal drama.
#ianthe/john dynamic is so fascinating and amusing to me.#theyre equally awful in such different ways#post-htn especially.#ianthe's so much for the grind for the power of it all yknow. theres only one person she cares about really.#and she has to deal with the most powerful guy ever being just a very sad very lonely wet kitty of a person.#i imagine at some point the (toxic codependant) instincts kick in and she starts like. genuinely caring for him#in the way she cares for people. which is by endlessly tormenting them#and he starts caring for her the way he cares for people which i can only assume is by constantly asking her if she hates him#theyre both the worst. they can be the worst together.#the locked tomb#tlt#ianthe tridentarius#ianthe the first#saint of awe#htn#htn spoilers#harrow the ninth#john gaius

Thinking about robot Ghost who is fascinated by human Soap and thinks he’s just an incredible feat of nature. He never paid much attention to the intricacies of humans until he met Soap.
He loves touching Soap just to feel the warmth of his skin, loves laying his head on Soap’s chest to hear his heart beat, loves making Soap laugh and smile just to marvel at how expressive he is, and loves watching Soap work just so he can admire how he moves. Ghost is simply in awe of how everything he has to artificially emulate comes to Soap so naturally, and he’s drawn to Soap like a moth to a flame.
#Don’t think about how human lives are finite and that Ghost only has so much time to adore Soap before he’s gone btw 😊#Soap is equally fascinated by Ghost#more so than any other robot he’s ever worked on#Robot fucker who?#Anyways I swear I’m working on Call It Fate it’s just like 1 sentence a week#simon ghost riley#john soap mactavish#ghoap#soapghost#ghostsoap#call of duty#cod#robot ghost AU#call it fate#lemonwrap writes

not nearly enough posting about how insane giving amanda that puzzle piece charm on her saw x costume was. I mean sure, to us it's a cute easter egg, but within the context of the canon the implications are Haunting. what do you MEAN the first person to ever survive jigsaw freely chooses to wear the symbol he carves into the corpses of people who didn't. it's this tiny, secret acknowledgement that a bit of her died in that trap n now she's dragging this metaphorical tombstone everywhere with her on a literal chain. what the fuck
#you could definitely also argue that it's a Future Grave#sort of an 'I know this path won't end well'. which is equally fascinating#but I like to think it's a tiny subconcious bit of mourning#she probably doesn't even know why she's Really wearing it. thinks it's clever n edgy. doesn't see that it's an epitaph until it's too late#sanders bullshit#saw#saw x#amanda young

I've been thinking a lot about that interaction between Laudna and Orym in episode 102. How it starts with Orym saying "I'm so sorry that the world is moving so fast that we couldn't take the time to help you."
There's a certainty to that framing that is very typical of Orym. Not "I'm sorry the world is moving so fast that we didn't take the time to help you." They couldn't take the time. The mission comes first, second, and third until they've seen it through.
Now, it's hardly a revolutionary observation that Orym's worldview comes from a particular combination of military training, survivor's guilt, and calcified grief that is ultimately self-destructive. It's also not a revolutionary observation that the party has not quite realized this, or not in so many words. They tend to treat his perspective as the only one unshakeable by personal failing. Later in that conversation in 102, Laudna even tells Orym that if someone needed to "finish the job, put me down," she'd wanted it to be him, because she knows he has the ability to do what's right.
His friends think of him as the only one who isn't a powder keg waiting to go off, but it has gone off, with Orym secretly and self-destructively pledging himself to Nana Morri in order to keep his friends alive. Betraying his friends' trust in favor of the mission. And in the end it didn't accomplish anything.
I think of Orym as someone who holds multiple truths at once. First and foremost there's a soldier's truth, the grim relentlessness that's all that keeps him going sometimes. But we've seen Orym be soft, too. He's gentle. He loves his friends. It's there underneath the grim layers of suppression. We saw it more early campaign. I don't think that he was lying in 49 when he told Imogen that he wasn't worried about her just hours after conspiring with Fearne to take her out if necessary. I think he wanted so, so badly to discount that soldier POV and buy all the way into trusting Imogen. But he couldn't. And I don't know if he was able to reconcile that. I think he genuinely believed both. Liam has said that before the events of this campaign reactivated Orym's trauma, he was legitimately on a path to healing his grief. I think that a healthier Orym would have been able to set down the soldier's truth to simply trust Imogen.
But that's not where the campaign took us. At the Malleus Key in episode 51, Orym collected a locket from a dead Vanguard soldier to remind himself that the enemy are still human. And then after Bor'dor died, in episode 63, he dropped it. Locking in on that soldier's truth. Making that deal with Morri. Not letting his friends stop and rest when they need it badly. Pressuring Imogen to give in to Predathos on the moon so that they could learn more.
There's a grim run of episodes where Orym is stuck like that, prioritizing his soldier's truth and suppressing the part of him that is his heart. Now, I'm not someone who needs to always feel warmly towards a character or agree with their choices to appreciate their depth and role in the story, and I respect what Liam was doing there. The willingness of the CR cast to have their characters make messy and unpopular choices is one of the things I appreciate most about the show, and one of the things that leads us to the richest and most meaningful moments of character arc resolution.
But that's where I've been frustrated with Orym: by and large, resolution has not been coming. He's been driving deeper and deeper into his traumatized worldview, clinging to it and stubbornly refusing to hear challenges to it. Repeatedly shutting down arguments by mentioning his dead family. I get it, and I feel for him, and I don't know how else Liam could be playing it given the story that Orym is in and the character that he is—not least a soldier whose training tells him never to question the mission. But, god, I'm ready for the growth. Ready for the story to prod Orym in directions that change. Ideally a shift towards a healthier perspective, but even hitting such a low that the Hells can't help but recognize that Orym's rigid morality is as destructive as it is sustaining. That will make them push back on him.
Because telling Orym he's the good one reinforces his worst instincts, increases the pressure he puts on himself, makes him double down. What he needs is someone to push back. He needs that increasingly brittle sense of his own lens as morally superior and righteous to shatter.
And I am so, so excited for it to happen—because we're starting to see it starting to crack, just a little. In episode 92, he acknowledged to Imogen that his lens is a lens and not simple objective truth, and even implied it's one he wishes he knew how to set down:
And now, when Laudna tells him he knows best of all how to do what's right, he admits it again: not a lot of his choices have panned out.
And it's true. They haven't. And I hope he keeps on saying it.
I'm glad to have Dorian back and on a revenge quest against the gods, because Orym trusts Dorian and Dorian is not going to let him sit unchallenged in his own convictions the way the rest of the Hells have been. I'm excited to see more of Braius, who not only disagrees with Orym about the Primes, but also doesn't have the same vested interest as the rest of the party in seeing Orym as good. I hope they both push back on him. I hope it unsettles him and confuses him and breaks his worldview and soldier identity enough that when the pieces come back together, instead of scarring over a second time, they can simply finally heal.
#orym#orym of the air ashari#cr3#cr meta#none of this is even touching his opinions on the gods which are equally rigid but more than I want to take on here#he is a fascinating and frustrating little guy and I’m so amped to see him finally hopefully start to break some of the patterns that#most need breaking#there’s a whole separate post too about his friendship with imogen which is very dear to me#and one about his relationship to laudna and how it in some ways keeps him from actually understanding her#but those are separate posts#I just love characters man#also thank u socallmedaisy for some of the thoughts herein!#i love to talk about characters man!!!#mine

hey! do you consider yourself a furry? if so, do you enjoy being in the community? if not, what label do you use, and why? (been wanting to ask this for a while:))
Sure, I don't mind being called a furry. My art certainly qualifies as furry art and my characters are furry characters. But I've never been that connected or active in the furry fandom in general. There's a lot of core experiences that I'm missing: I don't have a fursona, I don't own a fursuit and I've never been to a furry con. My online circles are very furry-centric but I don't think any of my irl friends consider themselves furries, despite our shared tastes and interests.
#so yeah furry but not a very community oriented one I guess#I'm always out of the loop when it comes to happenings and drama and such I literally never know what's going on#I tend to use the word anthro when referring to my art/characters but that's just personal preference furry is equally correct#I feel like all furries are anthros but not all anthros are furries and I just like to pick the word that covers both?#while we're here let me say that I find the theme of anthropomorphism super fascinating#people have been humanizing animals since prehistory which lends it a sense of timelessness and it's a concept that is culturally universal#it's silly but#in some trivial way I feel connected to the larger continuum of humans making nonhuman things in their own image#which is nice it makes me feel kinship to those cavemen who sculpted lion headed human figures out of mammoth ivory 35 000 years ago#answered#anonymous
