jon m chu says they didn't just want the two ladies to have a brief cameo and wanted to give them an actual meaningful moment of presence which is why they veered away from ideas such as making menzel and chenoweth glinda's parents but in my heart i think it's because they realized they would have to change glinda's line to 'dearest, darlingest momsie and momsicle'
