stephanie and damian will forever be the most interesting yet underrated robin duo due to their shared themes of inadequacy and worthiness. people do discuss legacy in relation to ‘robin’ but no one juxtaposes these two together often enough when they’re perfect character foils.

stephanie, who despite her best efforts and earnest belief in ‘robin’ falling short of ‘worthiness’ to that mantle due to her singular disobedience compared to damian. someone who initially dismisses the mantle as anything but an extension of inherent ‘worthiness’, yet is granted grace again and again. but even that’s a grace initially given by dick and alfred more than anyone else.

i think ‘robin’ exposes their insecurities and failures so starkly compared to dick or tim. and i think it’s their shared themes despite the diametric opposition that makes them so interesting together. they can probably see through each other in a way otherwise limited to a select few, merely through happenstance. their experiences are just so bitterly human in the sense that their appeals to the fickle higher power that is ‘batman’ fail against the regrettable, flawed humanity of bruce. and i personally think they should be able to bond over it more.

I might be misremembering, but as far as I remember, Tim's mum taking him to the hospital when he was a kid is like the only time any of the main characters parents are mentioned in MH? Which like, if that is the only time any of the characters parents/family are mentioned, it just makes it feel even more tragic to me?

Like, that was presumably an upsetting/traumatic thing for Tim to go through as a kid, like even if being left there at first wasn't traumatic, everything that came after would have made it be. Like, it just makes me think that everyone else's families were "normal" or like none of them really had any reason to bring them up. Their family/home lives were perfectly mundane, so why would they think about them when they have to worry about even staying alive for another day.

It just feels like it makes Tim's whole thing with his mum even sadder, because the only reason he brings her up is to talk about something kinda unpleasant? Like, being taken to stay inpatient in a hospital for god knows how long, with no say in whether it happened or not, would be so traumatic, like abandonment, especially for a kid.

Wolfman is his father and him and his wife had Rolfe young. Rolfe's mother loved her son, while Wolfman hated his own son.

Rolfe was a Mama's boy

Rolfe's parents divorced when he was 6, and Rolfe's mother died when he was 7.

Wolfman honestly saw Rolfe as an embarrassment, and never liked his son's interests (puppets and such)

When Rolfe was little, he sort of idolized his father, but started to resent him in his teens.

I love the idea that Wolfman was Earl's inspiration, so I had this idea that Earl's personality is sort of a manifestation of Rolfe's daddy issues.

Rolfe doesn't wear black tuxedos because he thinks he looks way too much like his father when he wears them.
