How they sleep, alone and with you

Tim (Masky), Brian (Hoodie), Toby

Tim

Alone: Tim was always restless, he wouldn't sleep for days and then would crash hard, usually in his day clothes. His bed was small and cramped so he typically slept curled up in one corner, pillow over his head to fight off any headaches. As Masky, he didn't sleep, roaming the woods all night and creating a muddy, bloody mess that would inevitably soak into the bed sheets when he permitted rest.

With you: Again, this man was restless. He had relentless headaches and ground his teeth in his sleep, but having you pressed against his side, feeling your warm breath fan against his neck while you held him made staring at the ceiling until his eyes were dry a little less tragic. If you insisted he would trade spots and lay his head on your chest, allowing you to comb through his hair until he could sleep.

Tim had once again scared you awake, climbing in his own window instead of using the door, which you would never understand. His hair was a mess, nose bleeding down onto his white shirt, bright in the light of the lamp you had left on while waiting up for him.

You didn't realize you had dozed off, and Tim didn't realize you had planned on staying over.

You tilted your head at him and sighed, scooting over and lifting the covers for him to join you. The pungent smell of blood and dirt made your eyes water a little, but he didn't notice.

Tim wiped his face on his jacket sleeve before sliding it off, slipping under the blanket and pressing his face against your throat, inhaling sharply.

You'd ask in the morning, you told yourself. Right now you knew he just needed you to be there.

Brian

Alone: Brian slept wherever he could, usually in abandoned buildings or couch surfing. The cold didn't bother him but he would try to make the best of wherever he was at the time, fluffing the dingy pillows and pulling his hood up. He always slept on his back, facing any doors or openings. Hoodie was much the same, if he slept it was sitting straight up, hands in his pockets and ready for whatever could come.

With you: Brian loved to take over your bed, he would sneak in at night and spread out across your plush, lovely smelling comforter. He would lay right on top of you if you weren't careful, straddling your legs and subtly smelling your hair as he cuddled in to you, eventually rolling over and pulling you with him. Even you couldn't prevent him from watching the doors and windows, so you always slept on his side or on top of him. He'd make you turn your lamp off and close the shades, knowing first hand that anyone could see in to your room on the first floor.

"Why are you so paranoid?" You mumbled one night, letting Brian back under the covers after he had gotten up to close your shades.

He didn't quite know what to say to that, laughing a little and pulling you tight against him.

"Creeps out there, y'know?" He shrugged and leaned back against your headboard, filing through his memories of watching you through that very window. Before you knew him and long before you invited him into your bed. "Just want you to be safe."

He could hear you sigh lovingly, running your fingers up and down his chest. "I love that you think about me like that."

You could feel him press his lips against the crown of your head, breathing in the scent of your new shampoo. He had a habit of doing weird stuff like that, but you thought it was cute.

"I like this new stuff, smells like candy..." Brian was almost whispering but it made you laugh.

"Maybe you're the creep I need to worry about." You could feel him swallow hard, hand slowing in it's circle across your hip. "I'm glad you like it though, I'll keep buying it."

Toby

Alone: Toby hardly slept, he stayed up pacing, doing breathing exercises he found on the internet, and coming up with plans for the next few days that he would inevitably forget or would fall through. When he was tired, he was really fucking tired. He could sleep for days when he had the time, pushing through nightmares and the need to piss just to get a few extra hours of rest. He slept like a tornado, stripped down to underwear and under a pile of soft textured blankets and pillows, it's not like he could feel himself overheating.

With you: He needed to be surrounded on all sides by stimulation, suffocated to sleep, so having you on top of him, weighing his heartbeat down to a steady calming rhythm was some of the best sleep of his life. He talked horribly in his sleep, conversations so animated sometimes he'd bite his tongue and wake up bleeding all over the both of you. He wouldnt admit it, but he was terrified of accidentally injuring you in his sleep. You never told him about the time you caught an elbow to the rib, or had a bloody nose from his stray hand, blaming the blood on bumping into the headboard.

"Toby..." You gently ran your hand up and down his arm, leaning over the barrier of pillows he had stacked between the two of you over night.

"Stop-" He huffed, curling in on himself further. "I can't, I don't want to hit you. I-I know I've done it before."

You could hear the shake in his voice, he wasn't upset, he was angry. You had to tread carefully now.

"Accidents happen. You want to know how many times I've accidentally nailed you while rolling over? You're practically in my skin while you sleep, I've definitely kicked you." You laughed a little, slowly pulling the pillows away and tossing them to the foot of the bed. Last thing you want is to piss him off further.

"I can't feel!" Toby was whispering, but it was harsher than normal. "This isn't the fuck-" he groaned, rolling to face you, "Fucking same."

Keeping your face as neutral as you can, you simply laid back down and faced him, waiting for him to work it out himself. Nothing you could do would help here.

"I'm sorry." His eyes softened just barely and he reached out to grab your hand, squeezing it a little harder than you think he meant to. "Just let me sleep over here, I don't," He grits his teeth, rolling his neck to stretch it out, "I don't want to hurt you."

You nod along, knowing that by tomorrow night he'll be comfortable again. This happens often when he thinks he's hurt you.

"Just sleep, Toby, I'll still be here in the morning."

🚬. . he’s pushing through his late 30’s at best.

🚬. . 5’11.

🚬. . a firm believer he’s a taurus.

🚬. . has native american roots.

🚬. . personality wise .. he’s a bit of a prick and an asshole just to give it to you straight . he will butt heads , he will command orders because technically speaking he’s the leader , basically have a strict & rough exterior . but with the shit he’s been through i don’t blame him. it would be a while once he likes & trusts you….but you’ll know. very few ppl get that side of him.

🚬. . dog person!! wants a dog sooo bad he knows he can’t take care of it unless someone wants to take care it while he’s away from the cabin. he’s ( and everybody else tbh..) out sometimes days or more so he ain’t risking it.

🚬. . whenever he sees stray dogs in the woods doesn’t matter what kind of dog man… he’ll pet it . if he has food in hand will give some to em’.

🚬. . definitely has HUNDREDS of pairs of bottom up plaid shirts. in hangers. in one small closet. Not just red like he wears all the time in mh. owns at least yellow , blue , black plaid shirts . rarely ever uses them though lol.

🚬. . smokes like a chimney holy crap. especially whenever he’s uncomfortable or stressed , at least smoke half a packet .. just an excuse not to talk about it.

🚬. . smells like the woods, cigarettes, or cheap shampoo and conditioner. (like old spice, irish spring , ect…)

🚬. . likes his coffee plain black. no questions asked. won’t add any creamer or sugar. just likes it the way it is.

🚬. . he’s probably rlly good at cooking like will cook up some good old eggs, beacon and sausage if he feels like it.

🚬. . snores like SO LOUD OH MY GOODNESS. second would be toby. holy moly. god forbid if there in the same room or your stuck sitting in the same car as them , you ain’t getting a wink of shut eye :( .

🚬. . coughs , coughs, … COUGHS especially whenever he’s running. it’s impossible for him to stay quiet bc of his smoking habits . has to take a break for a bit , lean against a tree then start running again.

🚬. . i’ll die on this hill BUT IM SURE he does the old man groan whenever he’s bending down for too long. or putting a hand on his back and groan hell loud .

🚬. . old man eye squint whenever he reads. reading something on his phone and has put it reallyyy squint and put that phone away from his face. YKWIM😭😭??

🚬. . acts like he hates toby but in reality cares so much for him. just cant bring himself to say it to him bc he’s so stubborn. likes kate because she listens to him without complaining during missions . same with brian. and TOBY GETS SO M A D .

🪓. . he rarely goes out in public places because he gets overwhelmed easily but in the rare occasions he does , can’t stand when men yell at women. like really detest it. has the urge to protect the them even though he doesn’t know the person. doesn’t do anything but just watches from afar. but that doesn’t stop of thinking violent thoughts what he wants to do to that guy.

➯ this a bit off topic but yk how toby lost his sister at a young age. messed him up quite a bit because Lyra was the only person aside from his mom that was truly kind to him. after burning his neighborhood, he doesn’t really have anybody else. and was taken by slender right after that.

➯ kate one day casually said that toby reminds her of a sibling,toby was taken back and need a few seconds to relies that she’s being serious. he cried a bit when he heard that from her because he never thought he would ever be a good brother bc he wasn’t there for his sister at that time. :(

➯ long story short they hugged each other that day. sworn kate he will protect her knowing full well she can defend herself. he doesn’t want to repeat his trauma. will break him even more if he lost another sibling because of his actions.

Glances at the comic books

The similarities between Brian and Masky makes me crazy, especially if you read into Brian calling himself the Advocate as him relating himself to the holy spirit and the idea of Masky being a protector for Tim's systim.

You are both so hopelessly tied to duty and you failed, killing yourself in the process because you could only see yourself as a dog.

Brian only saw himself as something to lead and protect Jay, as a tool by which to kill Alex, as revenge and anger made manifest to protect from and purge metaphorical sin.

Masky only saw itself as Tim's protector, until its connection to Brian made it put him on the same pedestal, leading to it failing to protect Tim from Brian (entry 61) and unable to ultimately save anyone from the Operator.

Brian died when fleeing from Tim and his failure, when reaching out to a partner that was angry at him as a way to recklessly try to fix things. Masky died by dormancy, presumably after the guilt and upset of its failure to protect overwhelmed it. It is unable to stop Tim from throwing away its mask because it has retreated to the subconscious under the weight of its guilt.

They're both so tragic and so similar in a way.

I just feel like a depressed teenager all over again, stuck in a loop of unhappiness. TIM Maybe you've grown up. BRIAN I don't know. Maybe this town has grown up. TIM Maybe it has.

Guys do you think one of the reasons Masky stopped working with Hoody was the fact that Brian was slowly but surely losing himself bit by bit each time he escaped the ark? Becoming the very thing Masky hated the most,,,,

Each time getting closer and closer to being like Alex until finally he triggered a really strong seizure for Tim, which was the final severing act.

But even after that, Masky came to him. He came back, and then they had their final falling out.

Tim was left by the shack, but Hoody took the mask with him. I think he still believed Masky would work with him because he HAD to. They were A TEAM.

But at the end of the day, Tim and Jay were better than Masky and Hoody, and he was left alone. Forgotten. A shell.
