something so fucked up about Chat Noir’s whole deal is that he is in a lot of ways Adrien playing a character. Like Adrien picked up his miraculous and was told he’d be a superhero so he was like “ok, time to act like a superhero!” and he lets himself have fun w it and play up the role and let loose and kind of just allow himself to be silly and goofy and have fun and for once in his life not care about performing Perfection™.

But. But none of the other characters KNOW THAT. So everyone just sees Chat Noir and is like “look at this guy’s ego. He’s so full of himself. Surely it’d be fair to knock him down a few pegs” without being aware of how few pegs he actually HAS. He’s like the “insecure character who overcompensates in ego” trope except he’s really not doing it unironically, he’s just having a fun LARP pretending to have self worth in his off-hours but nobody else is on the same page about it being a game and he refuses to tell them. He just dramatically pouts about it and lets them laugh and pretends like he’s not internalizing it and it is almost 3 am and my brain forced me to write this instead of sleeping I’m gonna take a melatonin

he's sticking to his "use the least amount of words possible" agenda, but when it comes to you, it just doesn't come out as cooly. if anything, he stutters and forgets what he was going to stay, opting to immediately dip as soon as he messes up. it's not like you knew who he was, and there's no way you could catch up when he was literally swinging from buildings. what could he have to lose?

"be safe out here—" huh? here? you're at home, aren't you? he was the one who literally took you back to your apartment. what's there to steer safe of? "...there—" his voice cracks painfully hard. "..."

he stares at you for an awkward amount of time, letting the seconds pass with an odd silence. you were waiting for him to speak, weren't you? he can't afford to fix his mistake without embarrassing himself, so he instinctively made a run for it, hopping off your balcony and going straight down.

"wait, spiderman—!" you rush towards the railings, peeking over the edge as if he would be right there below you, but no luck. he was already sliding down the bricky walls, making a beeline straight for the skyscrapers. you watch and watch, hoping for a glance or at least some sort of signal as a goodbye. nothing.

while you're stood there wondering if you did something wrong, he's running away from his sole issue, you, fighting back a blush despite having a mask on.

They don’t get far. Somewhere in Illinois airpace, they run across another family.

The three (a hulking man, a snarky teenage boy, and a cackling youngest girl, each a grayscale blur in the blue, blue sky) throw neon-lit beams of energy at one another, quips and insults flying almost as fast as they do. It looks like training. It looks like fun!

The boy of them looks like a younger version of the man. Exactly like, even. Clark is familiar with clones.

The youngest, a girl, looks like both of them, but not quite. Perhaps she will, age sharpening her childish features, but it’s hard to say. More likely, she’s the man’s daughter.

Interested, Clark introduces himself to Dan. He seems to be a hero in his own right, even if Superman’s yet to see him in action. And it’s not often Clark sees a family so like his own!
