Writing Software Frustrations

I am frustrated, my ability to focus is quite low right now and I was hoping to make my WIPs pretty. I've always found working on my WIPs easier when I get to make easily pretty looking world building and planning pages.

However! Everything I have attempted to use has had something that has driven me away. Today I even went on to Campfire wondering if now they were publishing that maybe they'd have changed their in my opinion rather offensive pricing (I already dislike subscriptions but I also hate the micro subscriptions). Nope! If you want to publish on them they are little different to vanity press(again my opinion, you should have to subscribe to features that they market their service to readers on in the hopes that your percentage covers it). Don't get me wrong I think mechanically Campfire is great for what my brain wants. It's the subscription fees that bug me. The lifetime plans for these kinds of software only make them marginally better but its still a lot of money.

My usual go to is Scrivener, it ticks so many boxes but I find writing in it sometimes too plain. I need pretty to get the writing to go burr.

Seriously if anyone has any ideas I want to hear them! Ways to make Scrivener files pretty! Software that doesn't cost an arm and a leg without subscriptions too! I'm also avoiding software with AI tools like the plague!

This is about academia, so programs for art/sports/etc don't count, only studying.

A program for gifted kids would be separate from most of the other kids, and only be open to certain students.

The "highest level" is referring to classes where you learn differently based on your academic levels. Unlike being a part of a separate program, you would still be in the same class as your peers, you would just be the "best" among them.

hey if you’re chronically ill or if you don’t have a disability but you’re struggling with your health lately (be it mental or physical) please consider that the thing making you so tired is your illness, so if someone says you’re being lazy, just remember they do not live with your body and they don’t get to tell you how much rest or medical help you need. listen to your body and take some time to take care of yourself. resting is recovering, it’s not laziness. being sick is exhausting. it’s fatigue, it’s not laziness. and someone else saying that it is doesn’t change your reality, so please don’t second guess yourself because you’re feeling guilty for having to take time off to rest. you deserve to rest as much as you can and to feel a little better.

Protip for when you can’t write anything properly:

Open a new doc.

Pick a character. (Doesn’t have to be yours. Any character works.

Think of a silly thing they would do. Write a sentence of that. (Ex. “Muu ate 25 crepes in one sitting.”)

Then write whatever the fuck you want, just any words you think of, whatever bullshit, WRITE THAT SHIT DOWN.

Here’s what I made:

By now you’re either

A) thinking about what you just wrote

B) doesn’t really care.

If you’re on option B, go back to your original doc. Usually, by now, writing should be easier. If it doesn’t, try option A.

If you’re on option A, go below that paragraph and write a story out of it. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT NOR COHERENT. you can also change the details from what you’ve written before, but just write something based off that.

Example:

Now jsut write and write until you either get:

A) Bored

B) Entertained

For A, go back to your original doc and try writing again. It should work by now.

For B, continue to write this until you either get to A or write something that can be considered a chapter, before moving back to your important doc.

This always works for me so tell me if it does for you :D

I took a huge stack of Christmas music CDs out from the library (there were SO many to choose from) for a family member, and am currently in the process of creating playlists out of this pile, which has ended up being funny. Firstly because it's hilarious to see what very silly Christmas songs various extremely famous artists have done over the years. Secondly, because the apparent musical "genres" so far include "Pop", "Jazz", "Country", "Classical", and "Muppets".

Barty is provocative as fuck and James is easy to rile up. Usually, it just leads to James storming off with Barty laughing. One time, James was having his own problems, and Barty came by and started a fight. James said the most offensive personal thing ever that got Barty so mad, he got personal too. Then they both are just yelling at each other, and everyone is kind of scared to pull them apart. Eventually James just tells him to fuck off and Barty does, for the first time, storm off.
