Coming ABSOLUTELY NEVER, Bugsnax 2! Taking place 2 decades after the first game, explore Snaktooth Island from a new perspective with an entire new cast of characters!

(Character Info under cut, I'm putting way too much effort into this)

First off, our new protagonist: Yolka Woolbag! Lacking a feeling of purpose after the death of her mother, Yolka arranged an expedition to Snaktooth Island to uncover the mystery of where she was born. However, throwing a wrench into that plan is her sudden disappearance and loss of memory, leading her to have to rediscover who she is and why she's there at all!

The first grumpus you'll meet, Writney Bumblenuzzle is the crew's nurse, and is already very tired of dealing with Yolka's amnesia. Contrary to her profession, she's passive-aggressive and would really rather do anything but her actual job.

A roughhousing ex-rodeo clown, Kessie Cattlespur's a rootin' tootin' has-been, longing for the good old days. While he's far past his prime, he believes he still has it in him to act as he did in his youth, but those days are long behind him.

If you need any information on the new bugsnax you'll uncover in Bugsnax 2, Camby's your grump! A zoologist with a bit of an obsessive streak, Camby is passionate about preserving the habitats of native creatures, and isn't too keen on consuming all the natural wildlife.

A niche painter and successful architect, Alferg Barbweaver's incredibly talented, but not very passionate about his art. Laid back and not particularly driven, Alferg's coasted by on the minimum effort required in... almost all parts of his life.

Very large, very stupid, and very, very cowardly, Garriel Grizloop's had a history of people being scared of him for his appearance. He's always trying to gain the approval of others by helping whenever he can, but hasn't found much success in his attempts.

A faded star, Charona Dapplechap has moved on from her days as a showgirl, but still longs for her youth when she was talented and beautiful. She and Kessie have quite the history, and really would rather not speak about it.

An alumni of the brilliant Professor Fizzlebean, Hadley Stormbrewer is an obnoxious snob with an ego the size of his brain (which he claims to be quite, quite large). Despite his accolades, he's quite secretive about his area of study, and besides his previous studies, he doesn't let on much about his background.

If you don't wake up at 4am to work out, can't lift twice your body weight, and dare to eat something with more than a gram of sugar, you're clearly not putting in enough effort, according to Steffonie Jumpinjack. The biggest health nut around, Steffonie's a bit pushy and judgemental, but ultimately well-meaning in her want for everyone to be healthy.

Come one, come all, to Biggie Scotchtop's Bugsnax Circus! Always desiring fame but never achieving it back home, Biggie's attempting to create something the world has never seen: a full circus with bugsnax performers! Her endeavours have yet to be successful, but she'll try anything to get the fame she desires.

If you've read a single magazine in the past years, you've obviously heard of infamous travel blogger, Gazzo Starsnap. A bit airheaded and out of touch with "poor people" reality, Gazzo's only on Snaktooth to take photos of the exotic landscape, take a vacation from his "very busy" life, and of course, dig into the local food!

Nobody quite knows Druple Jamnut. She's secretive, somewhat off-putting, and seems to know a bit too much about the island for someone who's never stepped foot there. She disappeared around the same time as Yolka, but unfortunately hasn't resurfaced since. Nobody's been too keen on looking for her.

Giving these grumpus losers 1 angst hc each because I CAN YOU B- (TW for death, bullying, addiction, abu$e, manipulation, anddd abandonment, also, bugsnax spoilers) also, some of these go along with other hcs that I gave them, you can find those Hcs in some of my earlier posts-

Filbo - Bullied in his elementary and middle school years for being different, it was usually just insults and pushing/shoving, but it would go as far as a full on beat up. Most of it stopped tho when he met Lizbert, who swore that she would protect him from those douchebags

Beffica - one of the reasons she hardly had friends before the exhibition was because she would get used for her popularity by others. This also fed into her trust issues with other people.

Gramble - Got abandoned by both parents when he was around 5, so he had to take care of himself for a long time. Had a grandma that he used to stay with after he got abandoned, but she died when he was 7.

Wiggle - (Okay, so if this was canon, it would not fully justify her manipulation towards gramble, but it would at least give a reason as to why—) before the exhibition + before she got into her songwriting career, had an ex that would use manipulation and forceful control as a form of “love”, and as a way to get what they wanted. With no one to show her what love truly was, and how to properly ask for something, she carried those habits with her.

Wambus AND Triffany - Both had shitty exes, but wambus was able to escape his relationship quicker than Triffany could, since she didn’t realize it was wrong until wambus showed her the truth.

Cromdo - His mom influenced his drinking problem, since she was a victim of addiction herself. Tried helping her after he grew up and realized addiction was bad, but she died before he could assist her

Snorpy and Floofty - Parents divorced, with mom taking Snorpy, and dad taking Floofty. Mom was a crazy conspiracy theorist, and would project all of her fears of the outside world onto Snorpy. And with dad, he loved his inventions more than Floofty, so Floofty would do some of the most batshit crazy stuff to get the attention they needed, hence why they have no self safety for themselves.

Chandlo - Has pushed himself past his limits on multiple occasions to impress others, with some cases resulting in loss of consciousness or a horrible injury, is surprised he hasn’t full on died yet

Shelda - Used to have beautiful long fur + hair, and was able to walk perfectly fine, but due to a wildfire in her late 40s, most of that fur got burnt off, and she got permanent injuries to her legs, resulting in the use of a cane.

Lizbert and Eggabell - Were so scared for each other when they realized that they were probably gonna die on the island together, and when they survived, both of them comforted each other and cried in each others arms for hours. Managed to get back home after 3 weeks, but both live with the trauma of snaktooth island. All of them do tbh, but those 2 got the most, especially Lizbert.

I like their look/ they're iconic/ they look alright/ etc. etc." First of all, this is a very lighthearted competition that doesn't mean to be negative or judgmental! A Fashion Disaster can sometimes be (affectionate): in some cases there's nothing more iconic than a bit of this pizazz. I like quite a few of the looks on this list (and sometimes dress much worse) but if they have been included, this means that either: 1) they have been nominated multiple times 2) they have been nominated at least once and whoever nominated them provided a very convincing or funny explanation of why they were a Fashion Disaster (for example by pointing out one particularly bad outfit - not necessarily their main outfit!) 3) they have been nominated at least once and upon looking them up, I noticed that they tick many of the boxes that were described repeatedly in other people's explanations of what they consider disastrous: e.g. clashing patterns, excessive accessories, crocs, bad haircuts, etc. etc. In any case, every poll will come with a brief explanation of why people have been nominating a certain character! To make sure that people vote informed ❤️ ~"Why are you randomizing matchups instead of seeding?" I totally see the value of seeding for most competitions, but this one here is largely unpredictable - a lot of characters got the same amount of nominations, and how Disastrous they are is entirely subjective. The competition is also quite visual-based - it's about looks rather than knowing a character, so it's more likely that people will vote for an unknown character than in other competitions, which risk becoming popularity polls quite quickly. Basically: I'd simply have no idea how to determine the ranking of most contestants here for proper seeding! That's why I opt for randomized matches - but I did make sure to put the two most nominated characters on the opposing sides of the bracket. ~"Why is [x] character not included?" There was a total of 174 unique characters nominated to this tournament! If the one you were rooting for did not make it, I'm sorry! One or more of the following was likely the cause: 1) they have not been nominated more than once 2) they have not ticked as many boxes for what other people considered disastrous as some other characters with a single nomination did 3) a lot of characters have been submitted from the same source. After choosing 3 most nominated ones, I couldn't include more! The rule is max. 3 characters per source. ~"Is propaganda encouraged?"

The Base EGO tied to Filbo Fiddlepie, who in this little AU I have decided to create like right now lmao is one of the main grumpuses responsible for the excursion to Snaktooth Island! In this little post I will just go expand on the details further and such! But right now, EGO information:

Type: Gloom (Slash)

EGO Resource Cost: 5 Gloom

Coin Value: 25 - 32

Effects: [Indiscriminate]

Targets up to 5 targets. If the target is an ally, damage is nullified and instead turns into temporary health gained instead. The temporary health lasts for 3 turns unless it is damaged enough to be removed.

If the target ends up being an enemy (be it a bugsnax or an enemy grumpus), damage is dealt and the enemy is afflicted with a debuff similar to Weaknesses Analyzed, where the enemy's affinities are changed, but this time they are all moved to neutral (No strenght/weakness against) for the turn called Mayor's Oath

Passive: When activating Gloom Res., 2 allies with the lowest speeds get 1 haste for the remainder of the turn the Abs. Res. Was activated.

Attack Description: Filbo's attire changes to a ceremonial gown once the EGO is used. Filbo takes off his sash and tosses it towards the air, soon expanding and circling down onto the randomly selected targets, before soon it wraps around the targets and squishes them inside.

With that out of the way, below the cut I'll expand a bit more on the AU itself and include Filbo's full EGO picture without the border! (If you want me to expand on something under the cut or above, please let me know! I'd love to discuss this if given permission)

General AU Info:

Now then, this won't make too much sense without prior knowledge of the Project Moon Universe, but I will try to simplify it enough so that it fits within the Bugsnax Universe without needing constant reference between the two!

With that being said, here's info regarding

The Snaktooth Company AU

The Expedition

The expedition to Snaktooth Island wasn't simply to just go there to establish a new life for the Grumpuses themselves, but it was for something else. It was rumored that the island contained not only treasures, but relics of the past that could be used for multiple things, really. Advancing scientific fields, improving lifestyles of the common grumpus, bragging rights or a pretty penny, you get the gist of it. Because of it, many grumpuses want to head there themselves, but not everyone has managed to come back alive.

CNN

In this AU, it isn't a Journalism Company, but rather something else entirely. CNN is now a company in charge of maintaining the peace in the main island, not via police work though, but rather by working in the shadows to ensure things like cryptids, monsters, or powerful relics are common knowledge to the public. After all if such knowledge came to the public, it would probably lead to riots or worse! Because of this, CNN is in charge of preparing the expedition units to head to Snaktooth Island to gather whatever they can from there.

Snaktooth Islands

In this, Snaktooth Island isn't just one singular island, but rather comprises of many. Why haven't they shown in satellites, maps, and other media? Well outside the censoring done by the government and such, it's also because in truth, finding the islands is rather difficult than simply washing up shore unannounced. Outside of some key factors, the islands typically resonate with a grumpus, and typically only they have a vague feeling of it's location. Sure any grumpus can force a trip towards one of the islands, but that wouldn't really get you much, since the islands change according to the Grumpuses within. Additionally, the bugsnax are somewhat the same, but are more aggressive than before. They will attack any grumpus that comes within their range and if they manage to, they'll feed themselves onto them. They will repeat this until the grumpus dies and becomes a part of the island. (Something only the Journalist can remedy, but more on that later)

The Expedition Members

The Grumpuses on the expedition all have a unique heightened compatability to the bugsnax, each also has a past that the islands would naturally resonate with, and so each grumpus was scouted to join the party. By none other than 3 different Grumpuses:

Filbo, Elizbert, and Clumby

The three Grumpuses each are affiliated with CNN in one way or another.

Filbo was sponsored by CNN to fund their career as mayor in the main island, in this AU, the Grumpuses don't meet prior to Snaktooth outside obvious exceptions (Grumpuses that are related to one another, in a relationship, so on and so forth), and Filbo managed to become Mayor prior to this thanks to CNN pulling some strings in the background.

Elizbert is a member of one of the CNN branches, and was one of the few Grumpuses that brought forth the main plan to the higher-ups. Elizbert was one of the main players in this operation, being the one to scout for Grumpuses in her circles (and Eggabells) to find potential Grumpuses to help them with this.

Clumby, although considered a higher-up by CNN, much prefers to be able to see things by herself rather to leave it to reports. Clumby will act as a guide to the islands, having been a previous survivor of them herself, she knows some things that would prove to help the expedition exponentially.

The Journalist

The Journalist is... Well, I won't spoil TOO much regarding the Journalist's role (mostly because in the source material the character the Journalist replaces has their backstory shrouded in mystery) , BUT I can share some things that still matter!

The Journalist is the Manager of the expedition, despite them not being a long time CNN member they had a unique trait that none of the others did.

They still have their snax allergy, however it will be a MUCH needed ability to ensure no grumpus dies during the expeditions. The reasoning for this is that they, in a way, rewind the snakification of the grumpuses that are in the expedition, but as a consequence the Journalist themselves will suffer through the usual allergy reactions portrayed at the start of Bugsnax (although for the sake of narrative, the only hole they'll puke it out will just be their mouth, the rest is just gonna be allergy pains)

The Relics

Like I mentioned before, Snaktooth Islands have relics within them that will replace the purpose of Golden Boughs from the source material. Much like them, they are items of great power that will become greatly useful to those that have possession of them. However instead of being golden branches, instead they'll be... Well.

Bug Organs.

I mean, they LOOK like bug organs, but they aren't ENTIRELY bug organs- look let me put it this way:

The Snaktooth Islands, although still parasitic in nature, they spawn Bugsnax differently. At the heart of each island, there will be a sort of temple that while heavily protected by Bugsnax, will also have unique traits depending on the Grumpus the island has resonated with. To put as an example, in an Island that has resonated with Filbo, the temple may have references to mayor votings in the past eras, be it the crowning of kings, generals, tribe leaders, you name it! The Bugsnax within would also somewhat resemble this too, no they won't outright be the dead mayor figures, those would be the Bosssnax, but they will assume the foods of the mayors that they preferred. Perhaps the King enjoyed Steak Stews, maybe a Bugsnax will become one, perhaps the General enjoyed a nice bowl of rice and beans, so a bugsnax will be one, so on and so forth.

Bosssnax

Character Swaps

The Bosssnax will replace the role of the Abnormality boss fights in the source material. In this AU, the Bosssnax will all have been previous grumpuses that had attempted to enter the islands, but failed to escape alive. Naturally each bosssnax will be heavily connected to the grumpus prior, be it in mannerisms, food type, so on and so forth. Now, despite it being called bugsnax, I think for the sake of creative liberty, I will include other animal types if I can't find a fitting bug, but I'm sure that won't come up too much.

Now, I already have some grumpuses planned to swap for respective Limbus Company characters, but I'll admit, I don't have ALL of them set in stone just yet. That being said, I'll include the ones I have here (they may be changed in the future):

Grumpus Headcanons (1/3)

I finished my big list of headcanons about the Bugsnax characters and their pre-game relationships, and it turned out super long! So instead of using a readmore like normal people, I'm going to post it in three parts over three days.

These aren't, like, analytical headcanons; they're mostly just me making stuff up that I think is plausible. I meant to do this a year ago, and even already expanded a little in a fanfic on the headcanon about Chandlo being a small kid (here). But I got it done eventually! The idea is one headcanon for one character or relationship.

Character Headcanons (Eggabell Batternugget - Gramble Gigglefunny)

Eggabell Batternugget I think she actively studied Bugsnax with Floofty, as well as volunteering as a test subject, but I also think that has some backing in the game, so it's not the headcanon I'm talking about here. The headcanon is what she was studying: the nutritional value of Bugsnax. This is how she's able to be so confident that they're a perfectly balanced source of nutrition in her DLC interview. She also tried to figure out what exactly made them feel so good to eat. Being an endocrinologist, she guessed that it was some hormone, and made some progress in figuring out whether that was true, but then the earthquake happened.

Clumby Clumbernut She wasn't interested in joining the Snackolytes, and said no once Jamfoot was done talking about recruitment bonuses, though she knew he was telling her, not asking. But she was the last survivor of her expedition, and Jamfoot told her that she probably wouldn't last long all alone. Based on what she'd seen so far, Clumby agreed, so she joined up with the intention of going back on it once they were back on the mainland. But the Snakolytes were a lot bigger and more influential than she'd thought. They're also the reason she's continuing to do a job she hates.

Cromdo Face Hiding his singing is a habit left over from childhood, when he'd get in trouble if he did something fun when there was still work to be done. He also didn't have a lot of privacy, making it hard to find a time and place to sing that didn't annoy anyone. When he got married later, his singing also annoyed his husband. The idea that crime was the best shortcut to living comfortably was his own, though.

Filbo Fiddlepie I've made up my mind. He grew up with Lizbert; he's Grumpus American-Australian. His family moved to… I'm going to say Grumpus Sydney when his dad was a preteen, and his dad returned to New Grump City after finishing year twelve, then moved back to a smaller town when Filbo was a toddler. Filbo speaks American English to please his family, particularly his dad. Also he definitely did not get his pen licence in primary school. I've seen his handwriting in-game. I came up with a lot of extra stuff about Filbo's dad, for a story that's still in editing, but I'd sum up his attitude as "I love my cringe fail son".

Floofty Fizzlebean They've always been interested in biology and experimentation, but their parents impressed the importance of consent on them early. As a result, they've been experimenting on themself since before they were in their teens. They accidentally poisoned themself when they were sixteen. Snorpy found them, and they spent a week in the hospital. Also, their hair used to be a more vivid purple, for reasons unrelated to ageing.

Snorpy Fizzlebean First, psychotic Snorpy. That's an obvious one. But not all the stuff he believes is a delusion. I don't know enough about psychosis to go into detail, but he is aware of it, and so is Chandlo, and they have strategies. Less so for the conspiracy stuff, since Snorpy is unwilling to talk to Chandlo about that. And being on Snaktooth definitely made things worse. But, he really is being monitored by the "Grumpinati" (actually the Snakolytes), even if he's wrong about some of the details. They were involved in the artificial limbs project, as well as some other things that Snorpy noticed but blamed on the Grumpinati. They could disappear him, but he's off the mark about so much, and they think nobody would believe him anyway, so they don't bother.

Chandlo Funkbun If he didn't work out all the time, he'd be skinny as well as short. His body doesn't build muscle mass easily. He got beaten up a lot as a kid, because his school had a bullying problem, and he kept trying to intervene, while also being tiny. He started strength training as soon as he could, and got stronger pretty fast, but he stayed skinny until after puberty.

Gramble Gigglefunny He grew up in a very rural area, and concluded that if he wanted to find a family, he needed to be around more people. So he moved to New Grump City, and waited for a family to come to him. Instead, he learned the ways you can also be lonely in a big city. His preference for animals over people didn't help. Lizbert's expedition was his third attempt at finding a new family, as he thought he might get along better with the kind of people who'd go on this kind of expedition than with the people in his home town.

Hi! This is my first Intro Post, so I might as well answer a few questions up front!

1. Who am I?

I'm a 22 year old artist who also streams games on occasion for fun. I draw mostly fanart or my OCs for upcoming projects.

Bugsnax headcanon: If grumpuses are jet pilots

After playing Ace Combat series for a long time, I was thinking of a headcanon of which aircrafts the grumpuses would be manning. FYI Those who are absent wouldn’t be willing to be a a pilot due to several reasons. Endgame spoilers warning!

Filbo: He would be pretty much a YH equivalent to PJ (Crow 3) from Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, as he’ll show up in a F-16C “Fighting Falcon” (multirole). However, despite the aircraft’s well-rounded capabilities, it doesn’t really help much considering Filbo would pass out from g-LOC. Or worse, feel nauseous while piloting. He’s better off as an WSO (weapon systems officer) while the Journalist does the job for him.

Wambus: F-4 Phantom II. Despite being an old multirole fighter (like the pilot as he’s hitting 50′s and his body is no longer able to withstand such high amount of g-force), it makes up for its payload and great range while performing well for air superiority and taking down ground targets. By any chance, Triffany would be his WSO (kinda like Monarch and Prez from Project Wingman).

Chandlo: For someone who want an attacker that withstands lots of punishment while causing the most damage as possible, he’ll look no further as the A-10 Thunderbolt II (albeit modified into a 2-seater) is ready to suppress ground forces while turning them into swiss cheese thanks to its gatling gun. The only downside, however, is the mobility at higher altitudes as it kinda handles like a boat with wings. Thankfully, it comes equipped with reinforced armor to compensate the shortcomings. As usual, Snorpy will be his WSO, especially due to the latter being prone to anxiety when piloting an aircraft even if he’s good at it.

Elizabert and Eggabell: SU-47 “Berkut” and SU-37 “Terminator”. Fittingly, they’ll be pretty much a dead ringer to AC6′s “Garuda Team” in addition to working together to take down targets: Either confusing the enemy by flying in synchronization or one of them acting as a bait while the other would pursue the target. Like “Gelb Team” from AC0, they’re equipped with specialized missiles that are fired backwards while sending them a lethal “No U”. Y’all may wonder how the hell did Liz got her paws on a prototype with forward-swept wings (presumably a fully-functional replica since only one real-life SU-47 was ever made before the actual project was cancelled). While Eggabell ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed, she’ll do the best to keep up with Liz as long the latter’s aircraft doesn’t let her down.

By the way, as a nod to the endgame, they’ll be known under the squadron name “Hydra Team”.

Alegander: Surprise, surprise! Considering his organization’s secrets were being revealed by the Journalist, the events have led him to snap to the point of becoming obsessed in taking down the latter (totally not a poor man’s equivalent of Project Wingman’s Crimson 1). In a similar vein to Anderi “Akula" Markov from AC: Assault Horizon (minus the game’s heavy scripting and plot armor), he’ll whip out a heavily refurbished SU-57 “Felon”. A cutting-edge stealth fighter which has excellent firepower, maneuverability, defense, speed and “quick maneuver air-to-air missiles” that will put a hell of a fight against any target. However, due to his age he can’t handle a such high amount of g-force while suffering from “greyout” when pushing his aircraft too hard.

•Dated someone else for a good 3 years (between ages 16 - 19) before she dated wambus, this said someone else was an absolute selfish piece of sh!t that would act like a full on narcissist, would hurt Triffany verbally and emotionally. Wambus kinda knew about the relationship and would BEG Triffany to leave them. As much as Triffany wanted to be with wambus, she kept getting manipulated by said ex to stay with them, so the first couple times wambus tried separating them, it didn’t work, but once Triffany realized that she was being used, she broke up with them and got with wambus.
