If ZUN wanted to use a different artstyle he could, he's done it for certain installments (numbers escape me) and Manga by commissioning/collaborating with other artists

But he doesn't and I think that's pretty rad! And honestly I love the art, it's charming. Plus we're not playing the games for its art style, its for the banger music and bullet hell.

just saw someone on reddit asking if there's any touhou mods to replace ZUN's art so they could introduce their friends to the game without being "put off by the ugly art". You do not deserve their cunty slay fighting game sprites if you cannot learn to love a touhou girl in her natural habitat.
