Nous avons aussi passé pas mal de temps à profiter de la douceur du climat égyptien. Nous avons gagné le sud du pays, au-delà de la première cataracte (où nous avons alors beaucoup pensé à vous). Je vous ai joint des clichés que nous avons pris du côté d'Eléphantine, là où le Nil se resserre. Le paysage y est si grandiose qu'Albertine en a pris plusieurs clichés et s'est dit que cela ferait plaisir à votre épouse (la deuxième photo jointe lui est donc directement adressée).

La troisième photographie représente Adelphe sous un immense acacia que nous avons croisé lors d'une ballade vers le monastère de Saint Siméon. Saviez vous par ailleurs que l'acacia est une récurrence au sein des textes funéraires ? Il symbole la Renaissance et est associé à Osiris. D'après la littérature scientifique sur le sujet, les barques funéraires étaient réalisées dans ce bois bien particulier.

Le quatrième cliché est de ma main. J'ai surpris ma douce Albertine alors qu'elle rêvassait sur la terrasse du jardin botanique d'Assouan. N'est-elle pas "la plus belle entre toutes" ? Ramsès a bien eu la sienne, j'ai moi-même ma Néfertari.

Je vous écrirai au plus vite quand mes recherches porterons leurs fruits. Je suis aussi curieux de voir si Monsieur Carter va enfin trouver ce qu'il cherche avant que son mécène ne ferme les vannes.

J’avais bien entendu appris par moi-même la découverte de la tombe de Toutânkhamon dès le mois de novembre : la nouvelle a fait un tel bruit, toute la presse s’est emparée de l’affaire, a son mot à y dire, et y distille des simplifications et des stupidités qui vous feraient dresser les cheveux sur la tête.

Je viens d’apprendre le décès imminent du Comte de Carnarvon. Toutes mes condoléances, je ne sais pas si vous étiez très proches, mais la mort d’un collègue d’une telle éminence a dû forcément marquer votre équipe. La presse commence déjà à raconter Carnarvon est victime d’une malédiction, et forcément, tout cela fait jaser dans les chaumières. Une malédiction, ça fait couler de l’encre, c’est bien moins alléchant qu’une septicémie… Je suis bien navré de voir comment la mort d’un confrère renommé est ainsi utilisée pour vendre des torchons de bas étages.

And these fictional characters were there with me, like a family, during that lonely summer. INTEREST CHECK & ACTIVITY CHANGES!

Don't worry, we haven't forgotten activity checks! Lindsey and I have been working behind the scenes at ironing out some changes to how we do activity checks, to give you guys a little more leniency while allowing us to stay on top of things with less stress / guilt.

Starting on Monday, May 8th, our activity requirements will be changing. Any account inactive for two weeks will be automatically unfollowed. Accounts that are inactive for one week, display inconsistent activity and/or are not replying to open starters will be warned. Checks will be done twice a month -- once at the beginning/end, and once in the middle. That should give people plenty of time in between and also a little more structure. I will have a more detailed post on this on Monday, as well as adjusting our rules then, so if you have any questions, please ask!

Another thing that we are introducing at this point in time is our 'extended reserve for future use' section, in which players can now reserve one face that they plan on developing a character around. Only one, however! We don't want to encourage face hogging, and if a significant amount of time passes, we will reach out to check and see if you're still moving forward with said character. We know (from our own current experiences!) that it can sometimes take much, much longer than one week to properly research and develop a character, and want to extend that courtesy to our writers.

So! To get everyone on the same page and with a fresh, clean start, we are giving everyone this weekend to contact us and interact with this post. Je dois avouer qu'avec toutes ces émotions, je n'ai plus vraiment eu la tête à mon ouvrage, et ce malgré les remontrances d'Albertine. Figurez vous donc ! Après l'arrivée de Lord Carnarvon et l'exploration du tombeau, on en sortait merveille après merveille tous les jours. J'ai fait le pied de grue à de nombreuses reprises devant le corridor. Fort heureusement, comme je n'ai pas été le seule égyptologue à stationner dans les lieux (nous étions assez nombreux, quasiment tous séjournant au Winter Palace Hotel, qu'Albertine nous compara à une nuée de mouches, comparaison très pertinente puisque nous étions sans nul doute au chevet d'un cadavre momifié qui aurait fait le bonheur des insectes nécrophages), des visites ont été diligemment organisées. Quelle misère que nous ayons été si pressés qu'Albertine n'a pas pu prendre son appareil photographique !

Dans une lettre, Arsinoé m'a indiqué qu'elle mettait de côté tous les exemplaires du Petit Journal Illustré qui couvrent la découverte et la mise au jour du matériel funéraire ou encore l'Excelsior, qui publie régulièrement des photographies. Etant donné la présence toujours prégnante des anglais en Egypte, je peux également me procurer le Times qui n'est pas avare en photographies. Je sais qu'on a attaché à l'excavation les services du photographe Harry Burton, dont les clichés sont sans égaux, et que bon nombre de confrères en sont jaloux. Je n'ai qu'une hâte, que Mr Carter ouvre enfin la chambre funéraire, mais je ne pense pas que cela se fera tout de suite. Quand je vois le temps que cela prend déjà pour vider l'une des antichambres, je n'escompte pas une ouverture avant l'année prochaine, dans les délais les plus optimistes.

Grâce à mes contacts à mes contacts à l'Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale, je devrai pouvoir prolonger le délai de ma concession. D'ailleurs, je ne doute pas que les autres chantiers voisins du mien soient aussi en retard étant donné l'émoi que suscitent la découverte du tombeau de Toutankhamon. Il me semble parfois que mes recherches sont bien dérisoires en comparaison.

There were times Carter could still hardly believe how much her life had changed for the better because of both Ashelia and Basch. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined how dear they would be to her when they first arrived. Displaced from their home with both time and place. She hadn't expected how hard she would have fallen for Ashelia while befriending her, and... nor had she expected the same to happen with Basch, as she and Ashelia did their best to help him adjust.

And yet, there she was, sitting next to Ashelia while Basch lay across their legs - her hand resting on his as her cheek rested against Ashelia's head. Her heart filled with warmth and love, something she never thought could happen to her, and she felt... safe. Being with them... meant more to her than they possibly knew, and Carter could weep out of sheer happiness alone. Never did she think she could be loved or wanted by anyone, let alone by two people who meant more to her than most. She had been ready to accept that there was... simply something wrong with her, and that it would keep her from the love, happiness, and security she desperately craved, when Ashelia had come into her life. Something she had thought possible again, when she found herself falling for Basch the same way she had with their girlfriend. And, now...

She watched as Ashelia tickled Basch's nose with the ends of his hair - watched as he grinned and listened as she giggled - and felt her throat tighten. Her eyes turning glassy despite her adoring grin, and felt herself get choked up with just how much they meant to her. How much they had changed her life for the better. Did they know that? Did they understand just what they had done for her heart?

Her words fell out before she could stop them, though she didn't mind. And their reactions... god, Carter almost cried. Her smile only widened as Ashelia spoke, and leaned closer so she could kiss her cheek. Her heart fluttering wildly in her chest as Basch kissed the back of her hand. Their affection for her almost overwhelming.

With a choked giggle of her own, Carter shook her head and leaned her cheek against Ashelia's head. She wrapped her free arm around her, and squeezed Basch's hand tight - holding onto it as she gently rubbed her thumb against his skin. "Sorry," she said with another choked giggle as she blinked back tears. Her smile never wavering as she held them both. "I- I didn't mean to- to make you both cr-cry. I- I just..." She swallowed thickly, and huffed in amusement as she did her best to fight back fresh tears. "You've- you've both done so mu-much for me. You've- you've made my- my life so much bri-brighter, and I- I can't thank you- you enough for- for it."
